ECLIPSE . . . beeduo

Summary:

When the Moon & Sun cross paths, do they speak? Do they care? Are they friends, enemies, long lost lovers? Are they anything more than fire and rock?

or,

beeduo as moon & sun rulers :)

Notes:

This is completely platonic :)

Work Text:

everyone knows of the moon and sun. everyone knows that the sun is out during the day, when the sky is light blue and clouds drift across the sky. everyone knows that the moon is out during the night, when it's colder and darker, and the stars come to help with giving light.

but not many people know of the gods, tubbo and ranboo, nor care of their feelings.

tubbo glances over the city, children playing in water and families having cookouts. people walking dogs and going for ice cream.

(and if tubbo had always wanted to join the mortals, to get ice cream and a dog, to have cookouts and swim,

that is between him and his journal.)

he lets out a battered sigh, wishing he wasn't stuck as the god of the sun.

it's lonely, being at the top. and toby, tubbo wishes he had someone, even just to speak to, if never to see.

ranboo looks over the sleepy little town, teenagers sneaking out for midnight adventures, young kids watching television and others going on night swims.

(and if ranboo wish they could join the mortals, to have friends drag them out for snacks at midnight, or a friend staying up late with them, and dancing in the kitchen at three a.m.,

well, then that's between them and their journal.)

ranboo looks longingly over the town once more, before standing with a long sigh, and heading off to find their journal.

the next day, as the sun set, tubbo glanced towards the opposite horizon.

he could see the moon peeking out, and wondered how the god or goddess of the moon is. he bets they're lonely, just as he is.

and so tubbo concentrates, feeling the moons coolness.

"hello? moon? are you there?"

"sun? h-hello?"

tubbo's face breaks into a wide smile. finally, someone to speak to.

"i'm tubbo! the sun god! may i ask who you are?"

"ranboo, moon ruler. gods, i'm sorry. i haven't spoken to someone in so long."

"i don't mind! it's been an awfully long while since i've spoken either. how are you?"

ranboo hesitates a bit before responding.

"lonely. it's terrible here. i watch the mortals all night long, and....just wish i could join them."

"we could, you know. an ancient spell speaks of this, in a book called Eclipse, one of the few things i can hld without burning. eclipe speaks of a time when the moon covers the sun, or vise versa. at this time, the current rulers meet, and have one chance to give their posotions up.

we could do it. a simple spell, and become mortals. we'd have all the basic things, including a house. but, only if you want to, of course,"

tubbo winces realizing how he'd giving ranboo no spot to input their opinion on the eclipse.

"yes! i hate being up here. nights, and never ending time. it's been too many millenia that i've been alone. i'm ready to become mortal, whenever the eclipse happens."

and so tubbo spends their last inkling of time together telling ranboo of the eclipse.

he'd even mapped the date, and the date was soon.

and so on the day when humans gathered outside, glasses on to watch the eclipse, did ranboo and tubbo meet, for the first time since becoming rulers of the sun and moon.

and if the mortals noticed the moon brighten when the two saw each other, no one said a word.

and if the mortals heard the rulers' excited cries upon meeting, no one said a word.

and if the mortals saw the two hug, saw the two preform the age old ritual, and be sent to the earth, no one said a word.

and so, for the thousandth time, two friends, the rulers of the moon and sun, joined together, and rejected their godhood.
