The Sun Disguised as the Moon

Summary:

Your entire life, you believed you were the outcast, just like the moon who is always outshined by the sun. Left behind by your three closest, and practically only friends, you decide to sneak out to see the worlds, unbeknownst to Master Eraqus. You arrive at Radiant Garden and catch a glimpse of the sun disguised as the moon.

Work Text:

Had this truly been the right choice?

This thought had been roaming through your mind as you walked around the new area, slightly weary of all the foreign sights. Though it is forbidden from going to the other worlds unless instructed to, Ventus had done exactly that. The boy you adored, the one you looked up to, had done so. You'd seen how worried the Master was, but despite that, you couldn't help but wonder what kind of adventures your friends got to experience. What kinds of things would you miss by staying home at the Land of Departure, staring outside the window to the same view every night?

You deserved more, didn't you? Hadn't you proven to the master that you were ready as well? Well, curiosity had gotten the best of you. Before you left, you mumbled a small apology, hoping that such an act would help yourself be forgiven to whatever god above exists.

You take a step forward, looking at the ground as small sparkles light up underneath the sun. Well, one thing was for sure; This place sure was as radiant as it claimed. The fountains you'd seen just a few moments prior had looked beautiful, stunning even. The cool mist surrounding them had put you at ease, making you forget you were far away from home. Oddly enough, it reminded you of the shooting stars you'd see back at home.

You'd spent hours walking around and simply admiring the view. You've met some new people, talked to people other than your friends and Master. It was such a surreal feeling, it was as though you could wake up any minute. If the other worlds were just like this one, then how bad could the outside worlds be?

"Hey, you," A voice whispered in your ear, causing you to jump back, startled. "What are you doing here?" You open eyes that you didn't even know were closed and stare at the figure in front of you.

        "H-Huh?"

"You heard me," The figure took a few steps closer in your direction, as you took a few back. "What are you doing here, princess?" The nickname confused you as you tilted your head.

        "Princess?"

"Stop avoiding the question." A keyblade was quickly summoned, positioning itself directly in your face. It was a key you'd never quite seen before. It had a much different feeling than the other ones you've seen. In the books, and even the ones you and your friends wielded looked nothing like that. And behind that key was its wielder, a figure who was a bit taller than you. A complete black and red outfit, as well as a black helmet to match. Its screen shined, and you swore you could see your own reflection in it.

Oddly enough, your first thought was, how often does he clean his mask?

"Um... I live here?" The keyblade wielder gave an empty chuckle.

"Very convincing I see." A silence followed his words. You were rendered speechless. "Now, listen here." The keyblade pointing at your face is lowered, but still tightly gripped in the figure's grasp. "You being here right now is interfering with my plans." The voice was gruff, very monotone, and sarcastic. "Why. Are. You. Here." It wasn't a question, it was a demand. And of course, you simply smiled.

"Well, I'm here to enjoy the view. It was getting pretty repetitive where I lived, so I decided going to the other worlds might spice things up." Putting a finger to your chin, you turn your gaze to the helmet the figure was wearing. "You gonna take that off? It'll be easier to talk to you once I see your face."

He hesitated for a bit, completely pausing his actions. As if frozen, he stiffened completely hearing your request. You wondered if you'd made a mistake by asking.

"N-Nevermind, you don't need to if it makes you uncomfortable." You laughed to lighten up the mood. "But what's this 'plan' you're referring to, and how am I in the way?" A loud laugh echos throughout the area, the figure now clutching his stomach.

"You really are stupid!" The words were supposed to be an insult towards you, but you found that you didn't mind it all too much. What he looked like underneath was much more interesting to you than being offended by his words. "The name's Vanitas." The visor on the helmet melted away as if the sun in the sky had radiated all of its light onto him. The first thing you noticed when his face was revealed was his golden-amber eyes. Perhaps his eyes were the sun and melted the visor off. His spiky raven black hair, the corner of his lips tilted upward into a smirk.

"I'm here to ruin your life." And despite all the warnings going off in your head, the voices telling you to run, that this man was dangerous, you stayed put.

You always saw yourself as the moon, compared to your trio of friends who shined so brightly, you felt like you were blinded. But at that moment, you saw an even brighter sun. A sun so bright that shined brighter than your friends. But those golden eyes, his appearance, it was as though the sun disguised himself as the moon.
