Work Text:
Julie, Maggie, and Flynn were busy decorating the studio while the guys were out. Well they had pretty much kicked them out and told them not to come back until dinner time. So that gave the girls another hour to finish everything.
Julie knew that Christmas was hard on the guys. Especially Luke. Since it was around Christmas when he had run out on his parents. So now that they were free of Caleb’s stamp the girls wanted to give Alex, Reggie, and Luke some good Christmas memories. They had decided to throw them a Christmas party.
Maggie finished decorating the couch area with lights and put a few more ornaments on the tree. She’d set up some ornaments for them to make and put on it when the boys got back as well. She walked over to where Julie was finishing around the piano.
“I’m all done over there. It looks great over here.” Maggie said looking at all the lights Julie had put all around the plants and on the piano.
“Thanks. Did you ever finish your present for Luke?” Julie replied with a knowing smile.
“Yes I hope he likes it. Mind if I run the song by you guys again?” Maggie asked picking up the acoustic guitar she kept a Julie’s.
To make the gift giving easier the girls had put the guy’s names in one of Luke’s beanies and drawn names. Julie had gotten Alex, Flynn got Reggie and Maggie had gotten Luke. Little did the girls know the guys had done the same thing.
“Yes!” Flynn said running over from where she had been decorating the around doors.
Both Maggie and Julie laughed at Flynn’s enthusiasm. She’d sure changed her tune about Maggie liking Luke now that they could touch. It also probably due to the fact Flynn had developed a crush on Reggie. Not that she would admit it.
Maggie began playing some of the song she’d written for Luke. Truth was she was super nervous for him to hear it. It was basically her telling him how she felt. And it was always scary to put your heart on the line. Especially when only one of you is alive. But Maggie decided after the whole Orpheum thing that she didn’t care and was going to enjoy the time she had with Luke while she had it.
“That sounds so good Maggie! He’s going to love it!” Julie smiled “and it’s going to sound even better with Reggie and Alex helping out.”
“You got Reggie and Alex in on this too?” Flynn asked impressed.
“Of course we did.” Maggie giggled “So what about you guys? Get your presents all ready?”
“Yup I’m all set with Reggie’s. I can’t wait to see his face when he opens it.” Flynn replied excitedly.
“Me too. Alex is going to love his!” Julie smiled just as excited. “Let’s finish decorating. The guys will be back soon.”
With that the girls went back to decorating the studio and setting up Julie’s laptop to watch Christmas movies on.
The guys however were across town walking down Sunset Boulevard popping in out and out of different clubs.
“So did you guys get your presents for the girls?” Reggie asked as they walked.
They had also drawn names to see who to get gifts for. Reggie had gotten Flynn, Alex got Julie, and that left Luke with Maggie. Alex might have cheated a little bit to make sure Luke and Reggie got the girls they were crushing on. He wanted his friends to be happy. It was no secret that Reggie had it bad for Flynn and Luke and Maggie were one duet away from making out at this point. So he and Julie might have teamed up to give things a little push.
“Yeah Carlos helped me out with Julie’s.” Alex said.
“Cool. Flynn helped me out with Maggie’s” Luke replied coming to a stop as his eyes drifted over The Orpheum across the street. It was still a little hard for him to believe that they had actually gotten to play the Orpheum. “What about you Reg? Get Flynn something cool?”
“Yeah Julie helped me out as well. How’d we get lucky enough to meet such nice people?”
“I don’t know Reg, I don’t know. But I’m not gonna complain.” Luke replied clapping Reggie’s shoulder.
“Me either.” Alex chimed in but he was busy looking for a certain skater guy that usually skated through there. But unfortunately Alex hadn’t had any luck finding him since he’d helped them before The Orpheum. It worried him that maybe Caleb had found out he’d helped them.
“Hey earth to Alex!” Luke said running his had up and down in front of Alex’s face.
“Huh what?” Alex asked coming back out of his thoughts.
“It’s time to head back to the studio.” Reggie chuckled “the girls are waiting on us.”
“Oh right yeah.” Alex replied still collecting his thoughts.
“Don’t worry dude we can come back and look for Willie again later okay.” Luke offered.
“Thanks Luke.” Alex gave him a small smile and they all poofed back outside the studio.
Luke walked up and knocked on the door. They didn’t want to poof inside in case the girls weren’t ready.
“Come in!” The girls voice’s rang out from inside
The guys walked in through door and saw what the girls had done to the studio. All the decorations and the tree. They were just looking all around at everything. The girls just watched the guys reactions in silence.
“Wow this looks amazing!” Reggie said breaking it, his eyes flying around he room lite up like little kid as he looked around. His gazed stopped on Flynn for a second before moving around the room again.
“Yeah you guys really did a great job.” Luke said but his smile didn’t reach his eyes like it normally did.
“Yeah really great!” Alex smiled taking it all in.
“Thanks guys! Ready to have some fun?” Maggie asked as she gave Luke a small wink.
Luke saw it and smiled a little bit bigger. He briefly wondered what made her so bold all of a sudden. “Defiantly.” He followed her and the others over the couch.
Soon they were laughing and playing Christmas games and guessing Christmas carols. They were currently playing Christmas song charades. Reggie was trying his best to act out being a reindeer while Luke tried to guess which song it was.
“Times up!” Julie shouted as the two boys groaned.
“Dude it was Rudolph!” Reggie said throwing his hands up.
“How was in any shape or form was what you were doing a reindeer?!” Luke snapped back shaking his head.
“I was trying to say it had a tail and nose!” Reggie replied moving his hands all around making others roll laughing at the two them of going back and forth.
“Reggie nothing about what you just did looked like a reindeer.” Alex choked out laughing.
“Whatever.” Reggie pouted sitting back on the couch.
Julie pulled herself together and put a hand on Reggie’s shoulder. It still blew her mind she could touch the boys now. “How about we stop with the games for awhile and open presents?”
Reggie’s face immediately lite back up he poofed up the loft and back yelling “Yes presents!”
He came back holding a box in his hands and sat back down on the couch. Luke and Alex follow suit and each got their presents from the loft as well. The girls did the same gettting their presents from under the tree. All except Maggie whose present for Luke was for later.
“Okay who wants to go first?” Julie asked looking around at everyone.
“I will!” Reggie said jumping up and handing the box in his hand to Flynn. “Merry Christmas Flynn!”
“Thanks Reggie.” Flynn replied blushing little as she opened the box. Inside was a pair of dangly purple feather earrings. They were totally Flynn. She carefully lifted them out. “Oh Reggie they are beautiful thank you!”
“You’re welcome.” Reggie said bashfully and if ghost could blush he probably would be.
Flynn handed Reggie the gift bag in her hand. Reggie dug in instantly and pulled a hamster plushie out. He hugged it too him. “Wow thanks Flynn! I always wanted a hamster!”
“You’re welcome.” Flynn smiled “Julie told me about how you learned to summon your instruments too you and you tried to summon a hamster.”
“Hey I had to see if worked.” Reggie laughed causing the others to laugh as well.
After that the gift exchange went well. Alex gave Julie a new sketchbook and some drawing supplies since Julie like to draw as well. In turn Julie gave him some fidget toys. Which was a new concept to him but he loved them since he never knew what to do with his hands when didn’t have drumsticks in them. Luke didn’t expect to be so nervous when he handed Maggie the small box he’d been clutching in his hand. Maggie was equally nervous as she opened it to reveal a silver chain with a simple music note on it.
“Luke it’s beautiful.” She looked up at him to find him already staring at her.
“It was your mother’s, well it was going to be. I never got the change to give it to her. I guess there are few perks to mom never changing my room. She never found my secret hiding spot.” Luke explained “It just made since for you to have it.”
Maggie leaned up and kissed his cheek “Thank you I love it. Will you put it on?” She took it out of the box and held it.
“You’re welcome. Of course.” Luke took it and put it around her neck. He gently moved her hair out the way his fingers brushing against the nape of her neck. It caused her to silver slightly. The whole being able to touch thing so still so surreal.
After he clasped it she turn back to face him and smiled “You’re present isn’t something I can put in a box but it comes from the heart.”
She stood and walked over the where the others were already set up behind their instruments. When they had moved she didn’t know. Maggie picked up her guitar and turned to the others “Ready?” She asked nervously.
The others all nodded began to play. Maggie took a deep breath and started sing.
I would have taken you skating
Dancing under the lights
All I want for christmas
Baby is to break the ice
I would have traded my presents
Too see you under the tree
But you're cooler than a snowman's
Heart on Christmas eve
I keep trying to find a way
To show you what you mean to me
But I know you're not gonna let me off so easily
It's over your head, and I don't know how
Every time you turn around
The mistletoe green, you know
What it means and I'm standing here so
Let's push pause on the talking
I'll make the rules, but it's just our luck
Hurry up and kiss me while we can
Blame it on the mistletoe ohh, ohhh
Blame it on the mistletoe ohh, ohhh
Blame it on the mistletoe
Once Maggie got past the chorus she really started getting into it and the nerves melted. Especially when Luke’s face broke out into a huge smile and he started dancing too.
I've been writing you carols
Since the 4th of July
Baby without you here it's just another silent night
You could hang up your stocking
Oh by the fire with mine
So maybe Santa Clause
Can make one last stop tonight
I keep trying to find a way
To show you what you mean to me
But I know you're not gonna let me off so easily
It's over your head, and I don't know how
Every time you turn around
The mistletoe green, you know what it means
And I'm standing here so
Let's push pause on the talking
I'll make the rules, but it's just our luck
Hurry up and kiss me while we can blame it
On the mistletoe ohh, ohhh
Blame it on the mistletoe ohh , ohhh
Blame it on the mistletoe
The others let the music fade as Maggie got ready to go into the bridge. This was the last part of their little plan. She felt like her heart was going explode as she leaned into Luke’s shoulder and sang softly.
It's over your head, and I don't know how
Every time you turn around
The mistletoe green, you know what it means. And I'm standing here so
It's over your head, and I don't know how
She pointed up she as sang and Luke’s eyes followed. There hanging from the bottom of the loft over their heads was a sprig of mistletoe. Luke shook his head with a smirk. Clever. She dove back into the chorus one last time before the song ended. She looked up at Luke as she tried to catch her breath. But Luke didn’t give her time and crashed his lips against hers.
“That was amazing. You’re amazing you know that?” Luke smiled when he broke the kiss.
“Thank you but you’re the one’s that’s amazing. Merry Christmas Luke.” Maggie returned the smile.
“Merry Christmas Maggie.” He kissed again a little slower this time. “You’re sure you want this? This isn’t a normal relationship.”
“No it’s not. But it is interesting and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love you Luke.” Maggie replied as a knock came from the door. They had even noticed the others had gone outside.
“It’s is safe to come back inside now?” Reggie asked impatient as ever.
“Reggie!” They heard Alex scold him.
This caused both Luke and Maggie to laugh. “Yeah Reg it’s safe.” Luke replied rolling his eyes. Before turning back to Maggie “I love you too.”
The rest of the night was filled with more games, stories of favorite Christmas memories, movies, food, and fun. Just the way it should be. Maggie gave Luke another peak on the cheek from she sat curled under his arm. “Merry Christmas.” She whispered.
“Merry Christmas.” Luke smiled back. This was defiantly the best Christmas ever.
