ISTREDD
Leish. Ard. Rath. Ard.
TRANSLATION
Leish. Ard. Rath. Ard.
FENN
Weapon. Misspelled word. Warrior.
TRANSLATION
Peravyn. Prethyn. Dreithyn.
Notes:
The show runner is essentially the boss of a TV show, and like all bosses, some are good, and some are not so good. Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich is great. As a further example: In the original draft of this script, there's a part where Istredd is spelling out a word, and spells it "L-A-R-A". I saw this, and noted to Lauren that the Hen Linge alphabet (which is what they're reading) consisted of letterforms with unique names, a couple of which had been established in Sapkowski's books. I suggested it might be better to replace those English letter names with the unique names of those letters from Hen Linge, and she agreed to it.
You'd be surprised how rare an interaction like that is for me! I often have conlang-related ideas and suggestions, but they are often rebuffed, if they're heard at all. It's so wonderful to feel like my input is valued, as it is on The Witcher (and also makes it easier to accept when I suggestion I might have isn't taken. At least I know it was considered!).
Also, as a note, prethyn doesn't mean anything. It is, indeed, simply a misspelled word. That piece required a little back and forth, as just because something is a misspelling of a word in English doesn't mean it will be in a translated language, but I thought it came out all right.
