Coffee and first meetings

Summary:

“Hello, thank you for waiting, what can I get for you?” Cross says with his best customer service smile.

“So that's what drew us here.”

“Uh-” Cross looks at them in confusion, nose slightly scrunched and bonebrows up. Oh wait, this is a coffee shop, they probably meant coffee. “-Ah, do you mean…Coffee?"

In which Cross unknowingly catches the eye of 2 vampires, and he doesn't know what to do about it.

Work Text:

The doorbell rings, signifying another customer entering the store. A slightly muffled “wait a minute!” could be heard from the back and shortly after Cross went out, flattening his work shirt and apron on the way.

“Hello, thank you for waiting, what can I get for you?” Cross says with his best customer service smile.

2 skeleton monsters enter, both holding large umbrellas. They look nearly identical, the only difference between them is their eyelights and clothing. One has eyelights like the sun, wears arm sleeves with bright yellow gloves, pairing nicely with his light yellow shirt, scarf, and dark tight pants.

The other one has lovely violet eyelights, wears a simple dark purple jacket and washed out jeans, and black gloves that cover his entire hand.

They both look around the quaint café, taking in its cozy interior, from the small bookshelf in the corner to the comfortable wooden circular table and chairs, to Ccinos cats lounging in the vicinity.

Then the pair turns to Cross, then looks at each other, then at Cross again and finally smiles. They finally make their way towards him, the yellow one leaning on the counter, Cross leans back.

So that's what drew us here. ” The yellow one (Should Cross ask for their name?? It feels rude calling them ‘the yellow one’ and 'purple one’ in his head all the time.) says. Leaning back when they noticed Cross pulling away.

“Uh-” Cross looks at them in confusion, nose slightly scrunched and bonebrows up. Oh wait, this is a coffee shop, they probably meant coffee. “-Ah, do you mean…Coffee? I'd be happy to make you a cup?”

They order 2 black coffees, one plain and one that's so drenched in sugar it could barely be considered coffee anymore.

The purple one looks out the window, noticing that it's still a little sunny outside. “It is a little too bright out for my brother and I to continue travelling, we will stay here until the sun darkens.”

So they are related , Cross thought absently.

“Sure, Find a seat, I’ll be here if you need me.” Cross tilts his head to an empty seat.

Apparently the most comfortable place they found is the closest to Cross.

“I have never seen you around until today, are you new in town?” The yellow one says after a few minutes of comfortable, if not a little awkward silence.

“Uh, yeah, I just moved 2 weeks ago, I haven't had the time to explore yet.” Cross answers politely, not minding the chatter.

“Well, if you ever need a guide we would love to show you around town” The yellow one suggest, a hopeful tone in their voice.

“Where are our manners, Dream? We haven't even introduced ourselves yet. I am Nightmare, and my thoughtless- “ Dream cuts him off by elbowing his side, but Nightmare pretends not to be affected. ”-brother here is Dream. Pleased to meet your acquaintance.”

“Im Cross, but you probably already know that with the-uh-tag on my shirt” Cross tries to joke, finally finishing making their drinks and serving it. “Anyways, here's your drinks, I hope you enjoy them.” Cross says with a (hopefully) award winning customer service smile. The twins thanked him and went on to enjoy their drinks.

“You know, our offer still stands.” Nightmare said casually, sipping on his coffee.

“Offer?”

“My brother mentioned showing you around town. There are a few lovely spots around here after all.”

“Oh! Yes, there's lovely spots in the park nearby, perfect for picnics if you're amenable” Dream ( what a lovely name , Cross thought. So much better than ‘the yellow one’) enthusiastically suggested, finishing his overly sweetened coffee and giving Cross a smile that could rival the sun.

“I mean-sure, i’ll take you up on that offer.”

“Great! It's a date.” Dream smiles. And Nightmare took a sip of his coffee to hide his amused smirk. Did the room just get a little warmer?

“....Wait wha-”

“Oh would you look at the time, brother, we need to get going.” Nightmare pulls Dream up by the shoulder and hands Cross a card he pulled from his pocket. “We will return, but have this, goodbye.” he turns to leave, but not before giving Cross a hefty tip.

Dream winks and gives him a small wave before leaving through the door. Cross stands dumbfounded, holding a huge wad of cash and a card in both his hands; it's a phone number.

“Date….?”
