OMORI

Summary:

Before Sunny moved away from Faraway Town, he told the truth to his friends about Mari's death. The gang was really confused until he gave them his laptop the day that he moved away and it had a program:

OMORI

Sunny told them that it had all the answers that they need. It was up to Kel, Aubrey, and Hero to find out the truth about what happened to Mari.

Notes:

This story was inspired by another fanfiction called "OMORI.exe" by RadicalRex and it hasn't been updated since January 19, 2021.

I decided to write my own version of how they experience OMORI! :)

Chapter 1: Title

Chapter Text

Sunny bows to the audience and opens the door in White Space after fighting and defeating Omori, who was trying to take over his mind. He walks through the door and tries to expect what was going to happen next since his guardian was finally gone.

It was all pitch black.

All of a sudden, he opened his eyes to feel his face. There was a bandage wrapped around his head and it was covering his right eye.

That's when he remembered: He was in the hospital after engaging into a fight with Basil. He went inside Basil's room to try and talk about their past but it resulted with both of them being severely injured and Sunny being stabbed with shears.

Sunny tries to get up but was starting to have pain around his head area, so he tries to endure it as he puts his arm on his forehead. As he got up from his hospital bed, he notices flowers around the room. He decided to take the time and read some of the notes that were connected to the flowers before exiting.

"Yo, Sunny. Just sending healthy vibes your way. You're always welcome at HOBBEEZ!"

"Partake in this bread and regain strength. Then, play with us again..."

"Get well soom, Sunny! We'll be wating for a rematch!"

Sunny was confused about the spelling mistakes. He checked to see to sent the get-well gift and he saw that it was from Vance, Kim, Charlie, Angel, and... The Maverick. He never knew that Aubrey's new friends cared for him. After checking out the other get-well gifts, he gets out of his hospital room.

As he exits his hospital room and walks down the hallway, he was stopped by an intersection that leads into multiple directions. As he got closer to the middle, he can see the Headspace versions of Kel, Aubrey, and Hero. They wanted him to follow them as they ran in a specific direction while a shadow of Basil walks in the opposite.

Knowing that Omori was defeated, he decides to follow Basil's shadow. As Sunny followed it, he could see Basil outside of a specific door but as he got close to it, he disappeared. As he opened the door, he could see Kel, Hero, and Aubrey standing around Basil, who was still unconscious.

They were all shocked that Sunny was out of his bed. After a few seconds of staring at each other, Sunny broke the silence.

"I have to tell you something."

The gang looked at each other and they were pretty confused. Kel was looking pretty concerned for Sunny.

"Woah, you should be in bed!"

"I did it... I killed Mari..."

Everyone was shocked about what Sunny was saying. Sunny killing Mari? It didn't sound like him and besides, they all saw how Mari died. Aubrey walked towards Sunny and hugged him, which surprised him. Hero and Kel were really confused.

"H-Hey, this isn't your fault! We all didn't know that Mari was feeling."

"You don't know the true story! I pushed her..."

Wait, Sunny pushing her own sister? Aubrey lets go of him. What does that mean? What even happened? There were so many questions unanswered.

"What do you mean?" said Hero in a mix of a surprise and confused reaction. "S-She wouldn't just leave just for that! There's no way that happened!"

Sunny got afraid from his sudden outburst. He knew that they wouldn't understand, so he thought that it was time. The time to show them everything but it was almost time for him to leave Faraway Town and he's not going to be able to explain it to them because he wants to avoid the trauma that he has experienced for the past four years.

"I-I can show you. It's on my laptop back home. It can show you everything..."

Sunny was closing his eyes and lets out an exhale after he tells them about the program that he worked on while being a shut-in. It was his way of sharing his story to remind himself of his past sins. Before the gang was about to ask Sunny what he meant, he left the room.

The gang looked at Basil. They all start to wonder. Does Basil know what Sunny is talking about?

It's been a few days since Sunny moved away from Faraway Town. Kel was in his room with Sunny's laptop. Was there really something on Sunny's laptop that consists of what happened to Mari?

Sunny and Basil were finally discharged from the hospital after a few days. Today, Sunny was leaving Faraway Town. Before he left, he stopped by Kel and Hero's house to drop off his laptop. He knocked on the door to see Kel answer it.

"Here. This is my laptop. I-It can tell you everything that I can't..."

Kel took the laptop while looking confused. What did Sunny mean? As soon as Kel was about to stop him, he can already see Sunny walk into his mom's car and they drove off... It was really sad to see an old friend leave but... that's how life is.

He was holding Sunny's laptop while sitting on his bed. Ever since he got it, he didn't even open it once because he wanted to wait until Basil, Hero, and Aubrey were available to check it out with him. He still didn't know if Basil knows about the laptop.

On the day when Sunny's message was delivered to them, Kel remembered that the three of them needed some time alone since they needed time to process about what happened between Sunny and Basil. After that, Hero returned to college and Aubrey started hanging out with the Hooligans again.

Being impatient, Kel decides to boot up Sunny's laptop. His desktop background was just... a black lightbulb with a white background? He found it really weird because there was a program that had a thumbnail of a pixelated boy that looked like Sunny except that he had white skin. He looked at the program name.

OMORI

"OMORI... what does that mean? I hope that I don't need an installation wizard or something."

He dragged the cursor towards the program and double-clicks it. He hoped that it wasn't a virus since it wasn't his laptop but his childhood friend's. The program opened a small, black window as it shows a white screen. All of a sudden, it shows a disclaimer.

Suicide. The word that Kel didn't want to hear. The reason why Mari was gone. He didn't want to try it out... but he NEEDED to know about what happened with Mari. As the message disappeared, the title screen appeared with some familiar piano music.

There he was...

There was Sunny... staring at him while the word "OMORI" appeared on top. Kel was starting to get anxious as if he just got punched in the gut as he was facing what looks like the "past version" of his childhood friend.

He noticed that there were three buttons on the bottom of the screen.

NEW GAME   CONTINUE   OPTIONS

Looking at the top right, he could see that the Z key was to "Confirm" and X to "Cancel." He noticed that the keys were also the keys that were used in role-playing and indie games. Was this really a game? Or was this a hidden message? Kel needed some answers. He moved what appears to be a red hand pointing at the buttons and moved it towards the "New Game" button.

Before he was about to press it, he took a deep breath and paused. He instantly knew that he couldn't keep this to himself. Since Hero was busy with college and Basil was discharged from the hospital recently, he instantly knew who to call.

Aubrey!

Kel hoped that she wasn't busy, so he picked up his phone and dialed Aubrey's phone number.
