Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

A vehicle carrying new recruits arrives at Rhodes island while the landship resupplies on a nomadic city near the border of Siracusa, among them stands a young lupo woman with silvery blue eyes and light brown hair, silver patches of hair adorning of both her tail and ears, the peppy girl looks in amazement at land ship taking in the size of it all as she steps out the transport ship.

“Wow, so this is Rhodes island”

The recruits are promptly welcomed by a professional looking vulpo wearing an HR badge, the young man gives a warm welcoming speech before proceeding to guide the group towards the HR offices.

Somewhere along the way through the labyrinth-like corridors of the landship the lupo girl bumps into a group of operators rushing through, clumsily losing her balance and falling flat on her bottom.

“Ouch!”

“Are you ok?”

She lifts her gaze to find a kind looking redhead sankta woman offering her a helping hand.

Ughh, she must have seen me fall over… this is so embarrassing, she thinks to herself.

“Ye… Yeah! I’m fine.” She awkwardly takes the woman’s hand, the sankta shoots her a friendly smile as she helps her up.

“Th…Thanks!”

“No problem, welp, got to run, this package is not going to deliver itself, see ya later little sis!”

The sankta takes off in an instant running down the hallway as she energetically waves goodbye, leaving the confused lupo behind in a second.

Why did she call me little sis? Wait… red hair, sankta and that logo on her jacket… Penguin logistics! She must be Exusiai, sister sold her short. She is way more beautiful in person.

With a warm smile on her face the girl grabs a hold of her luggage case and quickly catches back up to her group, after a short walk they make it to the offices where the HR rep explains the process to come.

“A member of our medic staff will accompany you to take some blood samples as well as some tests depending on the positions you applied for, from there we will proceed to do an interview to fill in your files”

Almost at the exact time the HR rep finishes giving the instruction, a serious looking feline woman holding a paperclip looking device approaches the lupo girl.

“You must be May.”

“Yes!” she responds nervously.

“I’m Kal’tsit, please follow me.”

Kal’tsit turns around looking at her device as she walks towards a nearby room, May follows close behind in silence, they arrive at what seems to be Kal’tsit’s office.

After taking care of the necessary tests Kal’tsit signal May to take a seat on the desk stashed nicely at the end of the room.

“You are interested in becoming a combat operator, correct?”

“Yes!”

“Ok”, Kal’tsit swipes on her devices.

“You have no previous experience and before coming here you worked as a hairstylist in Siracusa, so why do you want to become an operator?”

May looks down at her hand, she moves her fingers close together and a spark of electricity arks between them.

“Those with strength have a duty to protect those who lack it.” She says in a somewhat solemn tone.

Kal’tsit writes some notes down before turning to May once more.

“I see, “A knight’s duty” been a while since I read, your sister did mention you are a big fan of the Kasimirian knights”

“You know my sister?”

“Yes, operator Lappland is quite the troublemaker”

May blushes and awkwardly strokes the back of her head, “Yeah, sister can be a handful sometimes.”

Kal’tsit puts the device down and looks straight into May’s eyes, as if testing her resolve.

“Is that the only reason you want to become an operator? The battlefield is not as old knight’s tales make it seem, honor, duty and glory are better suited for fairy tales, there is no real winners in war only those who survive and those who die, no glory in taking down a group of mercenaries trying to make a living, are you sure you want this?”

A memory of her childhood flashes before May’s eyes, blood everywhere, bodies one after another falling to the ground, her sister cutting into them mercilessly, suddenly one of them begins to move, twitching back to life they crawl its ways towards Lappland, May stands in front the downed man, a knife tightly clutch around her raised hands.

Blood, everywhere she looks at nothing but blood, both her and her sister are covered in it and there is no washing it away.

“Yes, my hands are not clean, I understand the reality of fighting for one’s life all too well, this arts of mine can be used to help the infected, so that we can have a future too, so that no one has to go thru what we did.”

“I understand.” Kal’tsit calmly takes a few more notes, “Your arts seem to be suited for long rage support, I will recommend training as a supporter or caster.”

May is surprised, she expected more resistance, but she is pleased, a shy smile forms on her face and the sour taste of her memory subsides, “I… thank you, supporter sounds good.”

“Good, as for your tests results, your infection doesn’t seem to be as serious as your sister’s, our standard treatment should be more than enough to keep it under control and stop it from spreading further, the crystals however could prove a problem if you are planning on having kids someday”

May’s face turns bright red, “Kids!? I…mmm… I don’t even have a girlfriend so like… yeah I don’t know about that one… hehe…”

May’s awkwardness does not escape Kal’tsit, but she does not to press the subject further, just taking another note before continuing on, “As for your physical exams it all looks in order, you are clear to start your training tomorrow.”

Kal’tsit turns around taking a paper off from her printer and handing it to May, “I believe you will do best with instructor Whislash as you trainer, please take that paper to her tomorrow, that will be all for us today.”

May eyes over the paper quickly, she recognizes the name Kal’tsit mention but she has to make sure, her eyes widen the moment she confirms her suspicion, “Oh God! I’m being trained by the Whislash knight!? No way, this must be a dream!”

“I assure you this is no dream,” Kal’tsit gestures to the door “now if you would I have a busy day and I’m sure your tour guides should be waiting for you right about now.”

May awkwardly stumbles out of the chair the biggest of smiles illuminating her face, she doesn’t know how to best express her gratitude towards Kal’tsit, but she figures a hug, or a handshake are definitely out of the question, so she just bows to her as she makes way to the office door.

As she steps out the office, she spots a sight she hasn’t seen for far too long, Lappland, she is leaning up against the wall looking back at her with a smile, Texas is standing next to her.

“Hi there, sis”

“Sister, Texas!” May runs in enveloping the two lupos in her arms, “I missed you two so much!” Tears begin to run down her face.

Lappland tries to say something but she is in an uncharacteristically flustered state, Texas shoots her lover a reassuring smile, taking the initiative she gently pats May’s head, “We missed you too.”

Lappland follows suit leaning into the hug, pulling her sister and Texas tight into her chest, “Yeah, I’m so glad to see you again, come on we will give you a tour of the place.”

And so, the three lupos begin their tour of the landship, finally reunited with her sisters. May could not stop beaming the whole time, this marks the beginning of her new life.

The end.
