Chapter Text
When Harry's mind finally caught up with itself, he realized he couldn't open his eyes. He tried to wiggle, but there wasn't much room and he was quite curled into himself. Reaching out with a hand, he felt something solid and gently pushed against it. It warped under his hand slightly, but when he moved it back, it fell back into place. Curiously enough, the spot he had touched felt warmer and he swore he could feel a gigantic hand rubbing the spot.
Then the voice entered his tiny still developing ears, "Easy, Little One, I don't need you bruising my stomach or pressing on my bladder more. Just a bit longer, Luv," the gentle voice said. He noted it wasn't his mother though like his previous reincarnations had been. This was a new voice that confused Harry because usually, some type of his life included one of his parents had given him half their genetics.
Reaching out away from the wall he had pressed against, Harry felt something else besides him and froze. Slowly touching the thing next to him, he felt shocked as another hand sought out his own and clutched it.
There was another person, another baby with him. Which meant...he had a twin!
Suddenly, Harry was very eager for his actual life to start, a twin, he never had a sibling before! Harry curled his hand around his other half and felt them respond by moving just a bit closer. Their own magic mingled with Harry's own and Harry had to withhold his own eager magic from fully connecting with the other, knowing instinctively it would be too much for them to handle at this point. While most of his magic continued to be contained, the little bit that slipped through eagerly wrapped around the other person, cradling them, protecting them from any danger.
With his magic protecting his sister, Harry slipped back into rest, one part of his mind keeping out for his mother, the other keeping an eye on his sibling, he knew it shouldn't be too long till he was born in this new world.
Mary Evans sighed as the baby that had decided to become active still and stopped pressing on her stomach. It didn't hurt, but it was quite uncomfortable to feel it as she walked, er well, waddled to the exit with her husband Robert. "Do you think we have everything?" Robert Evan asked, his voice slightly gruff as his aging black hair and brown eyes peered at her, in his hands holding their sleeping two-year-old daughter Petunia while the other carefully steered their shopping cart.
They had meant to get everything earlier, but between one of the two babes in Mary's stomach actively moving, along with Petunia's tantrum, they hadn't made it out as early as they wished. So, here they were shopping while Petunia had her nap, leaving two exhausted parents behind.
"I think so," Mary said, her voice tired as her ankles were starting to hurt along with her back. They still had about two months till her birth date of the twins, but she was looking forward to it. She had thought carrying one child was hard when she had Petunia, but it was definitely starting to take its toll on her carrying two.
Robert nodded as he went to the checkout, handing Petunia to Mary so they can head to the car and so Mary could get off her feet. Shooting her husband a grateful look, Mary waddled toward the parking lot where she was finally able to rest her feet after clipping Petunia into her car seat, the twin's car seat already installed in the back meant they didn't have much room in their car.
Mary and Robert were quiet on their way home from the store, both already looking forward to possibly taking a shower and a nap before dinner. That was their plan, anyway, until they finally arrived at their house. Just as Mary was getting out of the car, she noticed a cat hiding in the bushes getting spooked from their sudden appearance. She wasn't that concerned, they've had strays in the neighborhood in the past, but she flinched when the cat suddenly launched itself at her.
She noticed with horror the slight white foam around its mouth and had an instinctual feeling that they might have rabies. She barely felt herself move as her arms instinctively covered her belly. But the cat never connected with her as a sudden glow appeared around Mary that knocked the cat away from them.
"Mary!" Robert shouted as he seemed to spot the same thing happening. He didn't open the back of the car, meaning Petunia was still safe and probably asleep, but both parents were worried and shocked at what just happened. The glow seemed to shoot some type of red light toward the cat who was instantly asleep when the light connected with it.
Mary's heart was still beating fast as he stared at the now sleeping cat, their chest moving up and down as she rubbed her stomach trying to reassure both herself and her children that they were okay. "What was that?" Robert asked with a dry mouth, his eyes still wide as he was clutching the car like a safety net.
"I...I don't know," Mary shakily said as two distinctive pops were heard to their side. She felt tears cling to the edges of her eyes, starting to get overwhelmed with whatever was happening.
Two men, one dark brown and the other white, suddenly appeared like magic in front of them. The one on the right had bald hair and black eyes that connected instantly with Mary's. The other on the left had dark blond hair with dark brown eyes that were instantly looking around with suspicion, a frown marring his face along with slight scaring along his cheeks.
"Hello, my name is Kingsley Shacklebolt and this is my partner, Alastor Moody, we registered some powerful magic in the area. Can you tell me what happened and who you are?" The man on the right asked, his eyes roaming between Mary, Robert , and slightly peering at the car that still held a sleeping Petunia.
"I...I don't know what just happened," Mary finally said as her shock slowly wore off but her hormones felt all over the place. "We...we just got home. Then the cat. And a flash of light. Now it's sleeping! I think it has rabies," Mary said as her hormones finally got the best of her and tears leaked out of her eyes.
Robert finally moved then and came to rest beside his wife, wrapping an arm around her and pulling her close to him as she tried to wipe up her tears before it became a waterfall.
"Do you know who did the magic?" Alastor finally spoke, his voice gruff and he seemed like he was debating if Mary and Robert were telling the truth.
Mary felt her heart thud against her chest as she rubbed her unborn children just a bit harder, trying to reassure herself of them as she felt conflicted upon telling the truth. "No," she lied, she didn't know these two people or what they wanted with her children, but she knew, she knew, that it was either both or one of them that just saved her life.
Kingsley nodded like he had been expecting that answer and he drew some type of stick by his side. Mary felt confused when he gave them a gentle smile. "Thank you for all your help, but you can't know magic exists," he said gently.
Before Robert or Mary could react, a light green spell, similar in shape to the red that happened moments ago, shot toward the duo. Instead of connecting with the duo as they half-expected, the golden globe of pure magic surrounded the duo. Mary felt her stomach get either kicked or punched with the movement, like the tiny body in her was reacting with the golden globe.
The light green spell hit the barrier and bounced away, toward the duo who instantly shot out of the way of the spell as it harmlessly connected with the tree in their yard. The two people that suddenly arrived paused in their movements, their eyes connected with the golden globe that almost seemed distrustful of them, wavering between being fully corporal to a shiny reflection of light.
"What did you say your name was?" Kingsley finally asked, his eyes focused heavily on Mary who seemed perhaps even more spooked.
"Look, you're trespassing on our yard. Trying to shoot something at us. You aren't in the position to ask any questions, now, get the hell off our yard before I call the coppers," Robert asked, his voice hard as steel as he stepped forward, protecting his wife behind him.
Kingsley raised his hands peacefully as Alastor seemed to tense further and clench his own stick harder. "I think we've gotten off on the wrong foot. We mean you, nor your children, any harm," Kingsley said peacefully, "but I think we can clear things up. This perhaps is the rarest case of accidental magic from a child, and I think we can help clear things up and make your life smoother and what to expect with a magical child."
"Children," Mary whispered, his mind whirling with the new information that magic exists. She couldn't exactly refute it, having seen its actions in effect right in front of her, but it still felt mind-blowing.
Kingsley seemed to blink at the new information before he gave her a shy smile. "Children," he corrected himself before inclining toward the front door, "Shall we take this inside?"
Robert seemed like he was about to yell at them further, but Mary clutched his elbow and stepped to his side, feeling more confident than she had before. There was just something about the two that, while she was still wary of, she felt like she could trust the two of them. Without thinking, she rubbed her stomach and felt the tiny kick under her hand, like the child was also reaching out to her. "You can come in. I want to know more," she spoke with authority.
Robert instantly backed down and inclined his head toward Mary, allowing her to take control of the situation.
Their introduction to the magical community could have been smoother, and they would have to hide how much they actually know when it comes a time, but they did meet two Aurors who said they would look after them. Help them if needed considering even they didn't know just how powerful the twins, or just one of the twins, could be.
After all, it was unheard of a child to do magic even before they were born. The youngest was at 7 months in order to get their teddy bear that fell out of the crib.
