A Song in the Dark

Summary:

JT, long time notorious hacker known as Ghost, recent Hero of Vulcan and Earth, had accepted that his actions had consequences. Which had finally caught up to him, but he didn't think that being sentenced to a multi-year incarceration would end up like this...the ghosts of his past are haunting his present and this time he isn't the only one at risk of falling into the darkness.

Notes:

So a sequel, not sure if it is a decent one or not but it is where my muse led so heads up.

The story starts approximately one year after the events of the destruction of Vulcan, JT is incarcerated in a Star Fleet prison but the Vulcan High Council has arranged his transfer to their custody, Spock and the Enterprise are in route to manage the transfer when the story starts.

Chapter 1: What is going on?

Chapter Text

JT had chosen to pay his time in prison instead of working for Section 31 (he smelled something underhanded with the group a mile away), and had already served six months of his eight year sentence, so why exactly was he now seated in front of a spook and his goons? The last thing he remembered was heading to his cell at the prison. Not only that but JT was pissed that he didn't have his gloves and PADD to be able to make snarky comments about the situation. Instead he slumped into the most languid position possible while giving the people across from him lascivious looks with a smirk on his face. The interrogation room was a uniform gray color only broken up by the screens mounted on the wall beside the table he was seated at. Across from him sat one individual while two others stood behind him acting like muscle rather than someone in charge, though looks could be deceiving so JT payed attention to all three as a precaution. The gentle almost imperceptible hum let him know that they were on a starship which was currently in warp, there would be no escape from where he was right now unless he was willing to probably murder everyone onboard in order to do so. Which was not currently an option, and unless they pushed him too far would never really be one if he was being honest. Not to mention that even with his above human capabilities he wouldn't fair very well against a few hundred people which was the typical crew size of most large ships, the subtle engine rumble under his feet wasn't from some small freighter but from a more significant sized vessel.

"Look, you belong to Section 31 now. Get used to the idea, the sooner you realize that the happier you'll be" the spook licked his lips nervously. JT knew that look, the spook was more than a little interested in his display, not that he would give the spook anything but it was a break in the other man's mask of confidence.

'Seriously did you guys really think about this? Fairly sure someone is going to start asking questions when they can't get a hold of me' JT signed more because he wanted to than because he thought the trio in front of him would understand.

"As far as everyone else is concerned you are dead, hell we even gave them a body to bury. Cause of death one of your infinite number of allergies, in fact we have video of your autopsy." Unexpectedly the left hand goon responded, he was solidly built but his eyes held a glimmer of more intelligence than the other goon and his demeanor had more strength than the nervous spook seated across from him. That would probably mark him as the actual leader of the three, which JT noted for further consideration before letting himself respond.

'Pics or it didn't happen' JT signed sitting forward now resting his elbows on the table and leaning his chin against his clasped hands, the screen on the wall beside them lit up and he could see Bones going over a replica corpse of himself. There was no audio but based on how Bones looked it was clear he was emotionally distraught, a small detail caught his eye though. Bones was obviously emotionally distraught but it wasn't because he was sad or depressed, no it was because he was fucking livid and holding it in. Given the information JT had plus the T'hy'la bond with Spock he was actually fairly certain that the spooks had royally fucked themselves over in the long run. Because the only thing HE found more terrifying than a pissed off Vulcan was a pissed off Bones, and it appeared that the spooks had insulted his medical ability on top of faking his best-friends death. Well no reason to make the morons panic too soon, he might as well play along for awhile. Maybe the idiot's would let him play around with their computer systems, honestly JT had long ago stopped being condescendingly smug about his intelligence but the sheer ineptitude of Section 31 was staggering. JT let his face show sadness and loss as he reached out to the screen watching the good doctor become increasingly upset over what he was getting from his instruments, judging by the looks on the trio's faces they bought his lie hook line and sinker.

“As you can see no one is going to be 'looking' for you anytime soon, although I am sure your funeral will make headlines.” JT glanced at the smug man standing across from him, it was obvious that while better than his compatriots he was still underestimating JT or overestimating himself and his organization.

'So what happens now? You torture me? Try and make me give you something I don't have?' JT let himself collapse back into his chair, allowing a defeated but defiant look to cross his face.

“No, your choice to deny Starfleet of that information while annoying is not what we are here to address. Besides torturing you for something you would be incapable of understanding let alone memorizing would be stupid, no what we are going to have you do is use those idiot savant skills of yours to the betterment of Starfleet and the Federation.” Leaning onto the table the agent smirked at JT as he huddled into his chair trying to make himself appear smaller, it was fairly obvious that the man disdained him if he thought he wouldn't be able to understand or memorize the engineering data he had hacked from the Narada. It reminded him of those individuals in the Academy and Admiralty who always thought he had been cheating to get the scores he received in his classes, or was sleeping his way to said scores as both sentiments were fairly common. Hugging his legs to his chest he watched the trio of goons exit the room leaving him alone, on the screen Bones nearly threw his instruments down before stomping out of the autopsy room. JT hid his smile by burying his face between his arms resting his forehead on his knees, Bones and Spock wouldn't give up on him so the only thing he needed to do was survive until he could escape or they could rescue him. If nothing else JT knew how to survive, his life had given him plenty of chances to prove that over the years.
