Chapter Text
As Mirabel looked down at the doorknob in her hands she marvelled at how far her family had come. Just a couple days ago Luisa had been hiding her insecurities, Pepa her emotions, Isabela her dreams, and Bruno… himself.
“We have all come so far”, Mirabel thought to herself, “I finally feel like a real part of the family. I can really see a future here.” She turned to place the doorknob in the door, completing their new home, their new start.
As the doorknob clicked into place she felt a warmth spread through her body and saw a flickering glow fill their home. “What’s going on?” she wondered. Fearing the worst as a blazing light she had only seen in bonfires and on candles filled their home.
When the glow faded their home remained but it seemed more alive then before. A lively spirit that hadn’t been there prior seemed to be bursting from the walls. “Can it be..?” She wondered a desperate hope filling up inside her as she prayed her first friend was back.
Mirabel waved, frantically wishing for a response from.. she daren’t even say their name for fear that it could jinx the chances of their revival. Their home returned the wave -no- it was more than their home, it was their Casita.
Mirabel felt an immense relief fill her body, her lifelong companion had returned and everything was finally right with the world.
All of a sudden she felt her clothes begin to move pulling away from her with what seemed like every breath. She looked down only to see her butterflies had come to life and began pulling away from her dress. A fluttering sensation began to spread through her body until all of a sudden it was like she was seeing the world from thousands of eyes.
The sensation immediately began to overwhelm her. The world became blurry and she felt like she could feel her heart beat through her skin. Then, just like that it was over and she was left reeling from the rapid overload.
“Mirabel!” Antonio exclaimed running towards her excitedly. “You got your gift!” “My…gift?” Mirabel replied confusion filling her as she processed what he said still recovering from the overload of information.
“That didn’t feel like a gift” Mirabel thought to herself confused about what could possibly be going on. “That was no miracle.”
“It’s amazing! You transformed into hundreds of butterflies! Didn’t you notice? I wonder if I’ll be able to speak to you” Antonio continued with excitement and glee.
“Does this mean we’ll get our gifts back too?” Camilo wondered asking the unspoken question that had entered all their minds.
“Congratulations!” Luisa and Isabela exclaimed. “Are you okay Mirabel?” Her mother asked, her voice filled with concern. “You look unwell.”
Mirabel couldn’t take it anymore, she had to leave. She still felt so overwhelmed from earlier and everyone talking over each other was just making it worse. Panicking and needing space she ran as far as she could questioning why she had ever even wanted a gift in the first place.
