Chapter Text

"Hah.." A shaky breath could be heard, quiet panting filled the otherwise empty streets.

Mammon turned a corner and saw an alleyway- He quickly made his way over and looked inside, the ally was completely empty other then one dumpster located near the back of it. He could see a space of which was mostly hidden from view and decided it was the perfect hiding spot.

He silently situated himself on the ground by the dumpster, before he took another pained breath.

You see, Mammon was running away from some witches- He was pretty sure they were trying to kill him.. And, while he did want to fight back, it was already too late. They had made him drink a few weird colored potions and from there things went downhill.

He had managed to escape so far due to his sheer unmatchable speed, if not for his powers being catered towards speed: He'd surely be at their mercy right about now.

But, even despite being able to escape, it wasn't looking all too good. His d.d.d was taken from him when he wasn't paying attention earlier, and due to the potions that were already in his system, his movement had decreased exponentially. Making it home was unlikely, in fact, coming out of this hiding spot was probably courting death.

He was stuck here- For until who knows when? Not only that, but he wasn't even sure what they had forced him to take.. He felt weak, extremely tired, his head was getting fuzzy, and everything seemed to be slowing down.

Was he dying?

No.. Surely not, of course, there was a chance of them having fed him some sort of advanced poison, but he doubted that he'd die from it.

He heard a few noises and sucked in a breath- Fuck, what would happen if he got caught?

He wanted to whine.. This was all so terrible. A horrible day through and through.

He had woken up to Levi trashing his room, got accused of stealing some doll (figurine), and had to clean it up before going downstairs-- Then found out that Beel had eaten his breakfast.

Now if that wasn't bad enough of a morning, he then got bullied for being an idiot by Asmo and Belphie, and when he tried to argue back, got hit by Satan for being 'annoying'.

Of course, that's not all- Later, he even got scolded by Lucifer for causing a ruckus. And he got in trouble for asking the elder for help with the witches instead of "Dealing with it on his own for once".

What a nice day- Sigh, who was he kidding? This was a regular occurrence: His brothers were quite mean to him, after all.

..But it was never this bad.

Haha, then again.. He was usually never brought to the brink of death by witches.

Oh, yeah- He had gotten for a moment, he was probably dying right now, right? That's not good..

"Fuck.." He whimpered quietly, his head was pounding and his vision was fading- His eyelids were started to flutter closed, even despite his best efforts of keeping them open.

He was falling asleep.

'Not now.. I can't go to sleep now..' He desperately tried to keep his mind active, but alas, could not keep it up for long.

"I'm sorry.. Lucifer." He wept, a single tear sliding down his cheek as his surroundings went calm and peaceful.

It looks like he'll miss his curfew..

Mammon woke up the next day- Or more accurately, night.

He was still in that same spot, beside the dumpster.. Seeing so, he took a breath of relief.

He darted his eyes around, making sure nothing was around before finally standing up.

He kept his vigilance as he looked around the dark, empty streets.

The moon was full, and its dim lighting helped him greatly as he swiftly made his way through the streets, still worried about being caught or tailed.

He felt weird.. No, it wasn't just him: Everything about this felt weird.

There was an eerie silence that loudly buzzed in his ears- Along with a small voice in the back of his head saying that he should go home immediately. Of course, with or without that voice, he was planning to head home anyway.

But those weren't the only weird things he noticed- First of all, his stomach was practically eating itself- It felt like he hadn't eaten in a month. Not to mention the gloomy presence in the air.. It was everywhere, and it was suffocating.

Had Lucifer been really pissed at his disappearance last night? That had to be the explanation, right?

Did he miss something important while he was stuck in that alleyway? Mammon shivered, he was definitely going to be scolded, badly..

Another strange thing was his mind- Memory, especially.

He tried to recall the last couple hours, but drew a blank.

He had been doing something..- Running from something, no doubt. But from what? --And why didn't he go home? Had he been drunk or something?

His stomach made a noise and Mammon pouted- He could figure this all out later, right now he just wanted to get home..

He quickly made his way home, using his speed to silently but efficiently make his way through the streets, overly aware that there was a constant negative energy surrounding the devildom- His brows furrowed and he couldn't help but have his mind repeat the same thoughts of: Had something happened?

Swallowing his worries, Mammon sped up a bit.

That was yet another thing as well- He was a lot faster, he was moving extremely quickly even without meaning to. Had he gained some power spurt, or something?

Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, Mammon finally made it to the H.o.l, which had an even worse atmosphere.

..Had someone died?

He frowned- That was impossible. His brothers were strong enough to take care of themselves, not to mention the fact that he was only gone for a single day.

Once again emptying his head of thoughts, he took a small breath and entered quietly.

To Mammon's surprise, Lucifer wasn't waiting for him.

Now that.. Was extremely strange.

Lucifer always waited for him when he didn't come home by curfew.. Oh god, had something really happened?

Mammon felt panicked and looked around, but there was nothing out of the ordinary.

He snuck around and went into each of his brothers rooms- They were all normal as well, and his brothers were all sleeping peacefully.

He paused outside of Lucifer's room, it was the only one he hadn't entered yet.

He knew for a fact that if he went in, there was at least a 70% chance of Lucifer waking up.

But everything else was fine, meaning if something was wrong- It'd have to be here, it'd have to do with Lucifer, wouldn't it?

As much as Mammon would hate to be scolded or punished so late at night, he knew that if there was even the slightest chance of something be wrong, it was worth the trouble.

And so, he entered anyway.

The room was dark, except for a small desk lamp that lit the dark room.

Mammon tried his absolute best to keep silent as he saw Lucifer fast asleep at his desk.

"Sigh.." He breathed a breath of relief and let out a playful eyeroll.

Some things never change..

Looking at his big brother, he decided he'd already gone this far: Why not go a bit farther?

He was going to be in trouble one way or another, why not do what he wants before the inevitable happens?

"If you sleep like this you'll hurt your back.." He quietly scolded, making his way over to the noirette, before putting a cheeky smirk on his face.

He took a breath and scooped up the elder into his arms- It was easier then he thought it would be, honestly.

He then carefully made his way over to the bed, making sure not to disrupt Lucifer's sleep, before gently placing the other in it.

It was beyond surprising that Lucifer hadn't woken up- But Mammon shrugged it off, of course the noirette was tired: He obviously stayed up all night.

He tucked in his older brother, feeling happy at being able to help him a bit.

He went to leave but paused as he passed by the desk.

There was a news article.. One had hadn't noticed previously.

Missing Second born: Mammon.

He immediately forgot everything, chills ran up and down his spine- The news paper was new, and it didn't seem like a joke- What was going on?

He walked up to desk and gulped audibly- Reading a few more words, he could feel the room get colder.

Missing

Chapter Text

He went into his own room- His heart still beating rapidly, surely that news article was false- There's no way..

His thoughts trailed off as he entered his room.. There were gifts everywhere, gold and jewels fulling every inch of the ground.

It was as if someone thought such things would make him more likely to show up, greedy to get his hands on them- Ah.. That would make sense, considering he's been 'supposedly missing' for 10 years, huh?

He walked over and picked up a couple, there were all sorts of names. He wouldn't be surprised if he had multiple presents from everyone in the entire devildom with how many there were.

Ah.. Actually, were these actually just birthday presents? I mean, he had 'supposedly missed' 10 birthdays..

He picked up the newest looking one- ..Was it from today? Was today his birthday?

Well.. That would explain the gloomy atmosphere, wouldn't it?

He opened the small present and felt shock- It was a picture of him and Lucifer as angels.. This was from hundreds of years ago.. Even if he hadn't been missing, it would've still been extremely old- That meant that Lucifer had kept it all this time?

He opened a few more- And then a couple more.. Okay, he opened every present from his brothers. It was impulsive- He couldn't help it! Each present from his brothers had a lot of thought and meaning put into them.

There were all sorts of things, items he had wanted at some point, pictures, messages for 'if he ever came back', and the like.

He could feel tears swell up in his eyes.. These cute bastards really fucking missed him, huh?

He blinked the tears out and focused back on his surroundings again. How long had he been in here, opening his presents?

His stomach growled and he was reminded of his lack of food- He was really hungry, but I suppose that was normal considering he hadn't eaten in 10 years.

But it had already been at least an hour or two.. There's no way at least one of the others, specifically Lucifer, wouldn't be up by now.

Well.. I guess he'd have to see them eventually, right?

He straightened himself out, before heading downstairs- The anxiety was bothersome, and his nerves felt like they were on fire. Butterflies wouldn't leave his stomach, just imagining the fact that they had missed him for so long was riveting.

He paused in front of the kitchen, where he could smell crisp bacon and hear people quietly eating.. For Diavolo's sake, were they brothers or strangers living in the same house? Had his disappearance truly changed everything so much?

He wanted to turn tail and run- Scurry away so he wouldn't have to walk in and deal with what would be an extreme aftermath..

He could tell that if he thought about it anymore he'd be cowardly and run away: It was now or never.

Thus- Taking a large, anxiety filled breath, he stepped in.

The room froze immediately. It was as if time had stopped completely.

"..Hi." He awkwardly waved.

Crash

The sound of a plate dropping out of Levi's hand signaled that it hadn't.

"..Mammon?" Beel questioned, shocked.

Mammon saw the disbelief and tears in their eyes- Ahhh, he felt bad, he caused them so much sadness..

"Don't cry.." He pouted, walking a bit further into the room, not knowing what to do to get them to stop crying.

After his short plea, the room unfroze, of course, the first one to move was Lucifer.

"You're back." A hug- Tight and warm, it made Mammon blush.

"H-Hey! L- Let go! W-Where's your pride- T-This is embarrassing!" He screeched, trying to get away.

He couldn't escape the elders grasp.

His brothers were still in disbelief at his appearance, still shocked and mostly unmoving- It looked as if they had a million or so thoughts running through their heads.

Finally, after what seemed to be forever, Lucifer spoke again.

"Where were you?"

It was a simple question- But it was one Mammon couldn't quite answer.

"I.." He trailed off, not knowing what to say.

"..I don't know." He stated dumbly, not knowing what else to say.

He still didn't remember what had happened, it still felt like only a day had passed- He wasn't sure what had happened over the last 10 years.

"..You don't remember?" Whispered Asmo, a trembling voice that made Mammon wince. He sounded so confused, heartbroken, and sad..

"I woke up earlier, I was outside.. I don't remember what happened at all." Mammon explained, "I came home immediately and only found out that I had been missing after I snuck into Lucifer's room to put him into bed since he had been sleeping at his desk again.." He finished, and Lucifer nodded along, as if to say it was correct.

There was a short silence before Beel completely exploded in sobs.

"Woah- Beel, what the hell?! A-Are you okay??" He frantically questioned, he knew Beel was probably the most emotional when it came to this, but it was still weird to see them crying over.. Well, him.

"Mammon.. We've been waiting for you to come home for 10 years- Of course he's crying you idiot.." This time it was Belphie who spoke, also crying, but trying his best to keep a smile as he jokingly insulted him.

"Sorry.." Mammon pouted, unsure of what to do now- The only one who wasn't completely sobbing now was Lucifer, who was still holding him in a death-grip of a hug.

"It's not your fault. I should've helped you with those fucking witches.." Lucifer cursed, an angry look in his eyes, "..Witches?" Mammon questioned, putting the pieces together and figure out that he had been running from the witches.

"Don't worry.. They cannot bother you anymore." A simple promise, one that made Mammon shiver.

"So.. I haven't eaten for 10 years, is there any food left?"

Notes:

Once again, not the best, BUT I tried.

It's attempted fluff, I'm an angst writer ofc its bad,-

BUT HOPEFULLY YOU LIKE IT ANYWAY

Ps; bro I just tried to re-read it and theres like 9999 spelling mistakes, ive probably missed a few, so uh- Sorry

Notes:

Ayo, Anon here (Yes the same fucked up anon as always. You know who I am.)

So- Ik this is short asf, and that it isn't one of the many idea's I had previously said I might try- But I'm random as fuck so unfortunately you'll have to deal with this for now.

This fic is short because it's unfinished, in the original draft for this, I did add a reunion part with the brothers- But I wasn't able to finish it because I am not skilled in the realms of fluff and happiness, and so I just cut it short as you see here.

Ik it isn't the best- Actually, you know what? I'mma stop selling myself short. I KnOw you enjoyed it, because it was great, but I am sorry it's so short, can't really fix that tho.

Uh, okay, time for something more serious.

Ik i said I might do a shit ton of other fics (such as evil mc) but I just- Can't.

Tbh, I've been getting some writers block so it's been difficult to try and write shit lately, being impossibly busy isn't helping either :/

So uh- To be honest, unlike usual, idk what to say.

I'm not taking a break or anything, but I just.. Can't write anything right now, and I don't know how long it's gonna last.

I could go back to normal and post like tomorrow, or I could be in a stump for a month or two.

Hopefully you guys won't miss my writing too much while I'm stuck like this, but meh- What'cha gonna do? Life sucks.

Tch, I'm being too pessimistic- I'll be back eventually! I will someday defeat the evil writers block and post more terrible, dark, angst!

Anyway, thanks for stickin' around so far, and I hope you enjoyed (and will continue to enjoy) this series of one shots, and I will see you (hopefully) soon!

Bye
