Chapter 1: Salvatore School

Chapter Text

A 16-year-old boy was running through the streets of New Orleans during a stormy night, rain drenching the city harshly as if a hurricane was occurring within its confines, but regardless of the stormy night, the boy continued to run as his heartbeat in his ears and his mind filled with anxiety. The boy’s name was Asmund Mikaelson, son of Niklaus Mikaelson and Lucien Henderson, and he possessed shoulder-length brown hair, red eyes, and an athletic build with a scar spanning his left eye that appeared as if after a violent fight. Asmund was anything but a normal child, since his father, Niklaus, was a hybrid of a werewolf and vampire, while his other father, Lucien, was a hermaphrodite witch, meaning that he gave birth to Asmund, thus making Asmund a tribrid of vampire, werewolf, and witch just like his stepsister, Hope, who was the result of Niklaus and Hayley Marshall, a hybrid like Niklaus. Tears streamed down Asmund’s face, mixed with the rain befalling the city, as he ran through the streets of New Orleans to try and find his father, Lucien, who he had located would be in the Mikaelson villa with Niklaus and the other Mikaelson siblings and Asmund hoped that he would reach the villa in time since earlier in the day, he had a terrifying premonition of Lucien dying on that day so he was rushing to try and prevent the vision from coming to pass. As Asmund reached the villa’s massive double doors, he slammed them open just as a heavy thunderclap echoed across the city while Asmund stared in horror at the sight in front of him as he saw a mysterious figure cloaked in a dark outfit, hiding the figure’s identity, was stabbing Lucien through the chest with a glowing sword.
“Thus ends the reign of the Grand Witch.” the mysterious figure growled in a dark voice unrecognizable to Asmund.
“No!” Asmund shouted in anguish and rage.
Asmund’s eyes glowed bright red, his powers overflowing within him, as he let out a gut-wrenching scream and unleashed his powers causing the city to be shaken by powerful magic while he was rendered unconscious by the outburst and fell to the ground unconscious, drained of his abilities being used erratically.

                                                         3 years later

Asmund gasped as he jolted away from a nightmare and found himself sitting in a chair within the library section of the Salvatore School for Gifted Youth, which was a special school located in Mystic Falls, Virginia that was created to help supernatural kids learn in a safe environment and with other kids that were similar. Asmund was now almost 19 and he had cut his hair to a short stylish hairstyle and he had grown out a short stubble on his face during the last few years as he attended school with his stepsister and made new friends in the school while learning under the guidance of different teachers and the headmaster, Alaric Saltzman. As Asmund composed himself after waking from a nightmare, he looked at his wristwatch to realize that it was late at night and he sighed as he got up to gather his belongings before heading out of the library and towards his room, footsteps softly echoing throughout the halls while he ran a hand over his tired face.
“Asmund?” a man’s voice said behind him and Asmund turned slightly to see a man with brown hair, brown eyes, and a beard wearing a black suit looking at him in confusion.
“Hey, Mr. Saltzman.” Asmund greeted with a tired smile, “I’m sorry for being out in the halls late…I was studying in the library, but must have fallen asleep in the chair.”
“It’s alright, Asmund.” Alaric assured him as he chuckled softly, “I wasn’t going to get onto you about being out past curfew…you’re almost 19 anyways so I trust you. I was just concerned about you since you look like you haven’t been getting any sleep at all.”
“Yeah, just some tests coming up and I’m cramming all my studies in to make sure I pass the tests.” Asmund explained as he didn’t tell the headmaster about his nightmares involving his father dying, “I’ll be alright though. Goodnight, Mr. Saltzman.”
“Night…” Alaric said as he wasn’t entirely convinced that Asmund was alright but he wasn’t going to press the issue especially since it was late so he let Asmund retire to his room.
Asmund groaned in exhaustion as he walked into his room and closed the door behind him before dropping his bag against the desk near his bed and then fell upon the bed face-first onto the pillow as he let himself begin to fall asleep.
“Asmund?” a boy’s voice said tiredly and Asmund turned his head to the right to see his roommate, Landon Kirby, in his own bed a few feet away from Asmund’s own bed, “You okay?”
“Yeah, just a late night in the library.” Asmund replied, “Sorry I woke you, Landon…go to sleep.”
While Landon turned over and went back to sleep, Asmund continued to lay in his bed awake as he turned over onto his back so he could stare at the ceiling and reminisce about his time in New Orleans, causing him to silently cry because both of his fathers had died with Niklaus passing shortly after Lucien as Niklaus saved Asmund and Hope from the Hollow, an evil spirit who was intent on destroying Hope and Asmund. Soon Asmund fell asleep, not plagued by any more nightmares, and he awoke the next morning to find that Landon was already awake and seemed to have left the room to not disturb Asmund’s sleep, so Asmund got out of bed and stretched his muscles out before going to take a shower and getting ready for the day, thankful that it was the weekend which meant that he had the day off to meditate and study his magic without any distraction from classes. As Asmund gathered his bag and started walking down the hall towards the garden, he grabbed an apple from the kitchen and started to eat it as he walked down the halls.
“Hey Asmund.” a boy’s voice called out behind him and Asmund stopped to turn and see his friend, MG, coming up to him.
Asmund had met MG when his friend joined several years ago after turning into a vampire and they had grown to become close friends over the years even after both of Asmund’s fathers died and Asmund had grown to see the vampire as a brother to him.
“Hey MG, what’s up?” Asmund asked smiling at the vampire
“I was wondering if you’ve seen Lizzie or Josie today?” MG asked and Asmund tilted his head curiously, “I tried asking the witches but they haven’t seen the twins yet.”
“Give me a moment.” Asmund said as he closed his eyes and took in a deep breath, exhaling slowly as his breath turned icy cold while he summoned his powers.
His eyes snapped open to reveal that they were glowing crystal ice blue as a blue aura started to cover his body, using his powers to see throughout the Salvatore School’s property to try and find Josie and Lizzie Saltzman, and he eventually sensed two girls at the treehouse that wasn’t that far from the school. The girls were sitting across from each other, silently enchanting magic spells as they trained together, and Asmund recognized both of them as the Saltzman twins as Lizzie had long blonde hair and brown eyes while Josie had long brown hair and brown eyes.
“They are at the treehouse.” Asmund told MG as he broke his spell and he returned to normal while looking at the young vampire, “Seems that they are practicing some magic.”
“Thanks so much, Asmund.” MG said grateful for Asmund’s help, “See you later?”
Asmund nodded and MG smiled at him before speeding off with his vampire speed as Asmund continued out into the garden and found a secluded spot to relax and practice his magic and a few hours passed by while he spent some time to himself without any distractions, until he heard someone coming out into the garden. Asmund opened his mouth to speak as he turned around, when suddenly he felt magic cast upon him causing him to fall unconscious.

Asmund a boy’s voice echoed in Asmund’s mind as the young Mikaelson started to come to, “Asmund, can you hear me?”
“Kaleb?” Asmund groaned confused as he felt a massive headache forming in his head as he awoke to find himself laying on his own bed with his vampire friend, Kaleb, looking at him with concern written on his face, “Ugh, what happened?”
“That’s a long story, but we need your help.” Kaleb said urgently and Asmund looked at the vampire confused.
“Dude, I just woke up from a sleeping spell.” Asmund muttered as he swung his legs around off his bed and his feet landed on the ground, only for him to gasp in shock as he sensed that things were different in the school.
He quickly got up as he tapped into his powers, sensing that Hope, Alaric, and Landon were no longer at the school and Kaleb seemed to be a hybrid of a vampire and a…dragon somehow?
“Kaleb, what the hell is going on?” Asmund questioned angrily as he clenched his fists, “Where is my sister?”
“As I said man, it’s a long story.” Kaleb said meekly. “There is a monster coming to attack the school and the witches’ barrier won’t hold up long.”
“Amateurs…” Asmund scoffed as he took in a deep breath and clasped his hands together.
A bright golden light started to shine through Asmund’s clasped hands and then slapped his hands against the floor as he cast the massive barrier spell throughout the school’s property, including the treehouse as well, and keeping any unwanted guests out of the barrier line. Satisfied with his work, Asmund sighed as he stood up straight and looked towards Kaleb with his arms crossed waiting for an explanation.
“How long have I been asleep, Kaleb?” he asked the hybrid vampire/dragon.
“Almost a year…” Kaleb answered with a distraught look on his face and Asmund looked at him stunned, unable to believe that he had been placed under a magical spell for a year only to awake to find that the school was under attack and three of the closest people to him were not at the school.
“Tell me everything.” Asmund demanded as his eyes glowed slightly in rage.
In telling him how they had found Asmund in a sleeping spell cast by a mysterious enemy, Kaleb mentioned that no matter how many spells they tried to awaken him from the spell, none of them worked, even when his aunts Freya and Davina tried to wake him up without success. Over the last year, Landon was possessed by his father, Malivore, who sent monsters to the school in order to cause chaos, and only the tribrid's blood could destroy him. Since Malivore took over Landon's body and used his son for a vessel, Hope was unable to kill Landon until she realized that she could become the full tribrid and then fight Malivore and put an end to the monsters attacking the school. Alaric and the others had been against the idea, but since Asmund was in a magical coma, the duty fell upon her to save the school. Hope turned into a full tribrid thus unlocking the key to defeating Landon’s father. After she killed Malivore, also killing Landon at the same time, Hope disappeared and Alaric was found in a coma in the hospital later that night, so the school currently had a temporary headmaster, even though Kaleb didn't think the substitute could stand up for them if the worst came to pass so Kaleb was beyond relief when they were finally able to wake Asmund up from his coma. He also explained that there were two more supernatural kids that had recently joined the school; Ethan, a young boy who used to go to Mystic Falls High until Malivore possessed him through and granted the boy invisibility while the other student, Cleo, a girl was a muse that had been awoken by Hope in order to try and gain inspiration to defeat Malivore and since Malivore’s demise, both of the new kids were training with MG and the squad so they would be ready just in case the school came under attack again.
“Damn, I’m asleep for a year and things just turn to shit.” Asmund grumbled as he scratched his head while taking everything in that Kaleb had told him, “Have you been able to locate Hope?”
“No, but I’m hoping that you’re going to be able to locate her.” Kaleb said with a look of hope on his face.
“Fine, take me to her room.” Asmund replied and they went out to the hallway where they walked down a few corridors until they reached a room, entering it to find it empty with a picture of Landon and Hope on a nightstand by one of the beds, “Leave me.”
Asmund looked around the room slowly before walking over to Hope's nightstand and picking up the picture on the stand that showed Hope with her boyfriend, looking at it sadly as Hope looked happy in the photo. Kaleb nodded silently and left the room, closing the door behind him so Asmund could have the room to himself while he gazed around the room gradually before gathering some supplies and as he sat cross-legged on the floor inside of a circle of candles around him, he took in a deep breath as he placed the picture in front of him, summoned his magic to light the flames, and closed his eyes while focusing on Hope while using his powers to magically send an astral form of himself to her location. He opened his eyes to find that he was standing in the middle of a street outside of Mystic Falls at night and he looked around confused as he saw that the streets were empty, void of any people or animals until he heard a car coming up behind him as headlight beams came upon him, causing him to turn around to see a silver sedan coming up to him only to stop in front of him. Asmund titled his head slightly as the driver’s door opened and he saw someone getting out of the car, his eyes widening in shock as he saw that it was Hope stepping outside of the car dressed in leather pants, a red shirt, and leather jacket and she looked at him with a mildly amused scoff.
“You’re awake.” she said with an arched eyebrow and she crossed her arms while leaning back on the hood of the car, “Is this the Squad’s best plan?”
“I heard about Landon, Hope.” Asmund started to say as he walked towards her but she held up a hand to stop him.
“Enough about that.” she told him, “Look; it’s cool that you’re awake now, Asmund but I suggest that you stay out of my way and tell the rest of our friends to stay away as well.”
“You defeated Malivore, Hope.” Asmund said looking at her confused as he wondered what was with her change of attitude, “Where are you going?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Hope questioned mockingly, “I am getting as far away from the Salvatore School as I can.”
“But why?” Asmund questioned shaking his head, “It doesn’t make sense…I get you being hurt from Landon’s death and you feel responsible, but that isn’t a reason to leave.”
He stopped as he looked at his sister, noticing that she didn’t even show any emotion at the mention of Landon’s death, and fear chilled down his back as he realized that something was very wrong with Hope and in a moment, everything clicked with him as he understood that she had done something very stupid which must have been done when she killed Malivore and Alaric must have found out, causing Hope to send a message to the others by hurting their headmaster so they would hate her and not follow her.
“Hope, your humanity…” Asmund started to say and she smirked wickedly at him.
“Yes, it’s off.” she said, “So much easier to navigate life with it off. Now, if you don’t mind…vanish.”
She thrust her hand out at her brother, causing Asmund’s astral form to break and forcing him to return to his body, gasping for breath as he clutched his chest in pain, before looking around the room and then got up to rush out of the room, heading downstairs to the gym where he sensed Kaleb and several other students within the exercise room. He barged in loudly and everyone inside of the room stopped talking, looking at him in shock at his loud entry, as he narrowed his eyes in anger.
“We have a major problem, guys.” he told them as they all stared at him, wondering what he was about to tell them.

Chapter 2: Difficult Choices

Chapter Text

Asmund went to the hospital to see if he could help Alaric after telling them about Hope's humanity turning off, but as he looked over Alaric, he sensed that Alaric's soul was most detached from his body, even though he was still alive so Asmund believed that the headmaster was most likely trapped in limbo as his body and organs were still alive.
“Well?” Lizzie asked fearfully as she and Josie held onto each other in anticipation of Asmund’s findings as the young Mikaelson magically scanned Alaric’s body.
“Body-wise, he’s alright.” Asmund answered as he finished his scan and he let out a frustrated sigh as he looked at both girls, “Spirit wise, I am barely sensing him…I believe he may be stuck between the afterlife and the land of the living.”
“So he’s stuck in some kind of limbo?” Josie questioned and Asmund nodded.
“That is my guess…” he said, “Though I’m not sure how to bring him back and before you get any crazy ideas, I don’t think black magic will work either.”
Both of the girls looked at each other with looks of hopelessness written on their faces, causing Asmund to hurt for them as he wished that he could do something to help them, and he looked down at Alaric’s sleeping form just as there was a knock on the door and they all turned to see a nurse coming into the room.
“I’m sorry, but visiting hours are over.” she said apologetically, “You can come back in the morning though.”
“We will be leaving soon.” Asmund assured her and she nodded before leaving the room and closing the door behind her as Asmund turned to his friends, “Look, I know I can’t do anything to help your father right now, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not going to look for a way to help him. I’ll hit the library books and get ahold of both my aunts to see what they can advise me to do if there is a way to wake him up.”
“Thank you, Asmund.” Josie said gratefully and Asmund nodded as he walked out of the room, giving the girls a few more minutes alone with their father.
The moment Asmund left the room, a loud ringing noise filled his head, causing him to groan and clutch his head in pain as he leaned against the wall beside him, trying to bear through the pain, only to gasp in shock as he saw a vision of a car crash outside Mystic Falls and a burnt body in the road causing Asmund’s whole body to fill with horror as he feared that the burnt body was one of his friends. After the vision ended, Asmund gazed around breathlessly as he pushed himself off the wall and finally collected himself before leaving the hospital where he stood out in the front with his eyes closed and as his head tilted to the sky, he heard someone approaching him, looking to his left to see Cleo walking up to him.
“Cleo right?” he questioned and she nodded at him while looking at him curiously, “I’m sorry that we weren’t properly introduced at the school…hard to find time to relax when you wake up after a year-long coma to find everything messed up.”
“I can’t imagine how you feel with everything being changed.” Cleo said with a soft tilt of her head, “You’ve barely had time to adjust yourself to your new reality with your sister being a full tribrid and her humanity being shut off.”
“Doesn’t exactly help when there are many messes that need to be cleaned up.” Asmund remarked as he scratched his head in irritation, “Then again, this is nothing new to everyone wanting me to help them in the past.”
“They always requested your help?” Cleo asked as she stood beside Asmund, who sighed and nodded.
“I was their ‘go to’ guy whenever they needed help.” he told her, “Always needing me to solve their problems, heck even Headmaster Saltzman turned to me for help most of the time…I guess I was more mature in their eyes so they believed that I had all the answers.”
“That could wear you down.” Cleo commented and Asmund nodded, “You don’t need to have all of the answers, Asmund.”
“Yeah, I guess but I will be alright.” he said with a forced smile as he hoped that she would believe it, “Anyways, did you have a question for me?”
“I was coming to tell you that the Squad is going to be calling a meeting at school and they were wondering if you and the twins could join.” Cleo explained and Asmund nodded just as Lizzie and Josie came out of the hospital.
Cleo explained the situation to both of the girls and they all agreed to see what the Squad wanted to talk about back at the school, arriving inside the school and making their way to a private room that had been set aside for the Squad to have their meetings away from the other students and as they entered the room; they found Wade, MG, and Kaleb already inside of the room waiting for them.
“What’s going on?” Lizzie asked them as they looked to see the boys looking very serious.
“We need to talk about our situation.” Kaleb said as he looked at Asmund uncomfortably, “Headmaster Saltzman is in a coma, Hope turned off her humanity and attacked him, and now we have monsters still heading towards us, thanks to Malivore.”
“I thought Malivore was dead.” Asmund questioned confused.
“Yes, but we believe that there still may be a portal around somewhere where monsters can come out of and into our world.” MG told him.
“Or perhaps, there is something else drawing them here…” Asmund muttered to himself as he thought if there was perhaps a cursed object within the confines of the school that was drawing the monsters, “I need to go analyze the supernatural objects in Alaric’s safe room to make sure none of the objects are causing the monsters to be drawn here.”
“I can help you.” Cleo offered and Asmund nodded in approval.
“Asmund, we need to talk about Hope.” MG said nervously and Asmund looked down as he knew that the others were concerned pf the possibility that his sister would return and kill them.
“I think Hope won’t be coming back for a while.” Asmund replied, “When I sent my astral projection to her, she made it seem that she didn’t want to be around us.”
“We need to go save her.” Wade said and Asmund let out a deep sigh, “She is still Hope and we want her back.”
“If you try and force her to turn her humanity on, she will destroy you guys.” Asmund warned, “Best to leave her alone for now and if she returns then I shall handle her. In the meantime, I need to go examine the objects.”
“Asmund, wait.” Kaleb called after him as Asmund turned to leave the room and Asmund stopped in his tracks, “Your sister is the tribrid now and you’re only a hybrid right now since you haven’t unlocked your vampire side…if you try and go up against her, how can you be sure that you can defeat her? We need to have a second plan to stop her, which may result in her death if it comes to it.”
Asmund stayed silent as he knew that Kaleb had a point since Asmund hadn’t unlocked his full potential and there was a chance that he wouldn’t be able to withstand Hope’s attacks if she chose to fight him, but he didn’t want to confront her until he was ready to stand up to her.
“I’ll figure that out later.” he told the Squad as he left the room and headed out towards the armory where Alaric kept all the supernatural weapons and items.
Cleo followed him down the halls into the armory, keeping an eye on the young man as Asmund kept silent while thinking to himself about the choices that he may have to make in order to save his sister and the school even though he was afraid of what may happen if he did make those certain choices, and as she kept an eye on him, she noticed that his hands were subconsciously clenching and unclenching as if he was frustrated and she worried that he was being too pressured by the others to make a decision about his sister. Asmund unlocked the armory with his magic and entered the large room, glancing around the room and looking at the many different artifacts that were neatly stacked on shelves, and he slanted his eyes slightly as he cast his magic around each of the objects to see if any of them was acting as a beacon to summon any monsters to the school.
“They are right, you know.” Asmund told Cleo as they walked around the room, analyzing each supernatural object, “I probably wouldn’t be a match to my sister if we were to battle each other…not when she is fully a tribrid while my vampire side is still locked within me. I mean…if it came to just our magic attributes; then I could possibly beat her since I have always been more connected to magic than she, given my heritage, but since she is also a vampire then she could just snap my neck and kill me.”
“Wouldn’t that possibly be the opposite of what she may want?” Cleo asked curiously and he looked at her confused, “If she kills you, then you can turn into a tribrid like her thus making you a match for her.”
“That’s….” Asmund started to say as he realized that Cleo may have a point, “That is a possibility, but I don’t know what her endgame is…all I know is that I need to find a way to bring her humanity back, otherwise I may be forced to…”
He trailed off in silence as he lowered his eyes, not wanting to think about the possibility of having to kill his own sister in order to protect the school, and so he just continued to examine the objects in the room though he was unable to find anything that would be drawing the monsters to the school. Asmund sighed in frustration as he stopped scanning the room and crossed his arms in thought, wondering what would be drawing the monsters to school if it wasn’t one of the objects, and as he stood there wondering what could be the reason; another vision of the car crash flashed through his mind causing him pain as he groaned and clutched his head while bracing himself against one of the shelves.
“Asmund, what’s wrong?” Cleo asked worriedly as she rushed up to him in concern and placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Just…a vision.” Asmund groaned as he braced through the pain until it faded away, “Same vision from earlier at the hospital…there is some kind of car crash and a burnt body in the middle of the road.”
“Do you know who is the road?” Cleo asked and Asmund shook his head as he recalled the vision but couldn’t recognize the body, “What about the car? What kind was it?”
“A yellow mustang.” Asmund said as he saw the damaged car clearly in the vision and Cleo’s eyes widened slightly in recognition as he looked at her, “You know the vehicle?”
“I believe this vehicle in your vision belongs to Kaleb.” she said and Asmund looked at her in shock while noticing that it was turning night outside, causing him to rush out of the room quickly as he realized that the vision was showing him that Kaleb would probably die in the crash.
He rushed upstairs to the Squad’s room, bursting in to see Kaleb talking with MG, and both vampires looked at him confused as Asmund stood there breathlessly.
“Asmund, what’s up man?” Kaleb asked and Asmund let a small sigh of relief as he was glad that he caught Kaleb in time.
“Thank goodness, you’re here…” Asmund said as Cleo came up behind him, “Look, I got a vision of your car in a crash with a burnt body in the middle of the road…you can’t drive tonight.”
“Okay, I’ll put the car away when Jed comes back.” Kaleb replied and Asmund looked at him confused, “Oh, Jed needed to borrow my car for an errand into town.”
Asmund’s eyes widened in horror as he rushed out of the room and headed outside to the garage nearby, opening it to find that his motorcycle was still inside, and he got on it just as Cleo and the others came outside.
“Stay inside the barrier.” he told them as he revved up his engine and then sped off to find Jed.
Asmund sped down the streets leading to Mystic Falls, keeping an eye out for Kaleb’s car, and about 10 miles down the road, he came upon the crash site and skidded to a stop as he stared in horror seeing a burnt body in the middle of the road and the mustang flipped over several feet away from the body.
“Jed!” Asmund shouted as he rushed to the body and bent down beside it, seeing that the body was burnt so bad that it was difficult to identify if it was Jed or not however the person seemed to be breathing.
“Asmund!” a boy’s voice called out in front of him and Asmund looked up to see Jed limping out of the damaged car with scrapes and bruises on his face while clutching his arm which seemed to be broken.
“Jed.” Asmund said in relief as he quickly got up and rushed to his friend’s side, examining the werewolf’s injuries and sensed that none of them were life-threatening and would heal with Jed’s werewolf healing attributes, “Luckily, none of your wounds are life-threatening…they will most likely heal with your werewolf healing.”
“Thanks.” Jed replied thankful for the tribrid’s consult and he looked at the burnt body, “Who is that?”
“I was hoping you could tell me.” Asmund remarked as he turned back to the body in confusion, “What happened?”
“I remember driving down the road towards town…” Jed said as he looked down to try and recall what happened, “Next thing I know, the car is flipped over and I wake up to find you arriving on the scene.”
Asmund sighed as he looked around the area, trying to see if he could figure out what would cause the car to have flipped over, but he didn’t see anything to suggest foul play so turned to Jed and handed him the keys to his motorcycle.
“Take my motorcycle and head back to the school to get Lizzie’s car.” he told the werewolf.
“What are you going to do?” Jed asked as Asmund started walking back over to the body.
“I’ll stay here and keep this person alive until you can come back with help.” Asmund answered as he bent down with his hands glowing blue as he cast magic over the body to help keep the person alive even if he couldn’t heal their body externally, “Go, Jed.”
Jed nodded as he got on Asmund’s motorcycle, leaving to go get help, as Asmund knelt by the burnt body and looked over the body with a grimace as he could only imagine the pain that they must be feeling so he ran his hands above their body allowing his magic to numb their pain as best as he could.
“I’m sorry this happened to you.” he said sadly, “Don’t worry, help is coming so hang on okay?”
Suddenly Asmund heard an inhuman growl behind him and he quickly spun around to see a dark shadow forming a few feet from him, growing into a tall monstrous wolf with red eyes and sharp claws, and Asmund’s eyes widened as he realized that the being in front of him wasn’t a werewolf, but more like a demon wolf appearing in front of him.
This isn’t good. Asmund thought to himself as the wolf snarled at him and Asmund shifted into an attack poise until he sensed that the wolf’s murderous intent wasn’t focused on him but rather on the burnt person behind him, “Oh hell, no…you’re not hurting this person.”
The monstrous wolf growled at Asmund and rushed towards him with insanely fast speed and lunged at Asmund, biting his shoulder and throwing the young man to the side causing Asmund to cry out in pain and have his breath knocked out of him when he hit the street and skid several feet away from the wolf. The wolf snarled at the burnt body below him and snapped down at the body, when Asmund summoned his magical power and blasted the beast back with telekinesis as it lunged at the burnt body with its sharp fangs. The wolf yelped in shock as Asmund’s magic blasted it across the street and back into the woods before it got back up and stood ready for another attempt while Asmund summoned flames to his hands and rushed between the wolf and the body on the road.
“Run…” a weak male voice said behind him and Asmund turned back in confusion as he looked down at the burnt body and realized that the man was telling him to run away from the beast, “Leave…me…”
“Not gonna happen, buddy.” Asmund replied with a shake of his head as he looked back at the huge wolf in determination while his shoulder flashed with pain, “I am not leaving you to die.”
“You’ll…perish.” the man argued weakly, “Thou don't need to throw thyself into danger for mine sake…flee while thou still can.”
“I can handle this.” Asmund assured the man as he found the man’s speech curious, “Not that you are speaking clearly, but I got the gist of what you are saying.”
“Thither is nay reason for thou to perish for me.” the man pleaded, “I pray of thou to save thyself.”
“Can’t you just speak regular English?” Asmund questioned as his brain hurt trying to translate what the man was saying just as the beast in front of him howled angrily, “Never mind, I need to kill this beast first.”
Asmund clasped his hands together, summoning a bigger fireball between both of his palms as his eyes glowed bright gold before he blasted the fireball at the beast, striking it in its chest as it was set on fire causing it to howl in agony as it died and Asmund groaned as he fell upon one knee while gasping for breath and trying to regain his strength before turning back to the burned man behind him. Asmund slowly got up and walked over to the man, kneeling beside him as he cast his magic over the man to make sure that he was still alive, and Asmund sensed that the man was just unconscious now so he waited beside the man until Lizzie’s car showed up and Cleo, MG, and Kaleb stepped outside of the car.
“Oh my god, Asmund.” Cleo said worriedly as she saw the monster dead on the side of the road while Asmund sat beside the injured man, “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, just…tired.” Asmund replied waving his hand, “Is there any way that we can hide the monster?”
“I’ll take care of that.” MG offered, “You can help get the injured back to the school with Cleo’s and Kaleb’s help. You guys okay with that?”
As MG looked at Cleo, she nodded and then turned to look at Kaleb, who seemed to be in some trance as he stared at the burnt man beside Asmund, as he did not seem to have heard MG's words and was only focused on the body, causing Asmund to look at Kaleb and notice that the vampire was subconsciously clenching his fists and his eyes started to glow with a  golden hue and his breath became labored.
“Kaleb?” MG questioned as he reached out towards his friend, only for him to step back as he saw smoke coming out of Kaleb’s nostrils, “Oh no…”
In horror; MG grabbed Cleo and sped her away as Kaleb opened his mouth towards the burned man, his throat filling with a glowing red glow, while Asmund summoned a magic barrier just as dragon’s fire shot from Kaleb's mouth towards the unconscious man and blocked the attack, thus shielding both him and the mysterious injured man from harm.
“Kaleb, what the hell?” Asmund grunted as he kept the shield up between him and the flames as Kaleb didn’t seem to hear him, What has gotten into him? Could the dragon inside of him be taking over him?
Asmund glared at Kaleb through the flames coming from his mouth, only to realize that there might be another reason why Kaleb was attacking them, and so Asmund's eyes turned blue as he swung his fingers towards Kaleb, casting a spell over him to knock the vampire/dragon hybrid out, thus stopping the flames from attacking them and allowing Asmund to lower his barrier and relax beside the unconscious man beside him.
“This day is just fucked up…” Asmund muttered to himself as he looked up into the night’s sky and wondered if things would ever get back to normal, unaware that life was about to drastically change for him as he knew it.

Chapter 3: Reflections

Chapter Text

A small cry pierced the air as a baby boy was born in a church and the baby cried as it saw strange colors and could feel the air against its body.
“It is a pretty boy...” a woman’s voice said holding the baby who looked up and saw a woman with long orange hair and brown eyes hovering over him.
“May I see him?” a man’s voice asked and the lady nodded as she came over and handed the child to a man with short brown hair and brown eyes who gasped in happiness and surprise as he looked at the baby boy, “He’s beautiful.”
The man looked up at Klaus with happiness in his eyes and a smile on his face and the baby titled its head to see a man with curly brown hair and brown eyes with a trimmed beard wearing dark clothes on the wall, looking down at the man and child in shock and unbelievable wonder. There was a look of happiness in the man's eyes when suddenly his eyes widened in horror as the man holding the child gasped for breath, causing the baby to start crying again.
“No!” the man on the wall yelled in horror as he watched the father of the child gasping for breath as he was dying and the woman took the baby in her arms as he cried.
“Let’s get ready for sacrifice.” a girl’s voice commanded as the woman looked up almost regrettably before leaving with the child.
The man on the wall had his neck snapped as he fell down leaving the first man that held the baby to bleed out on the altar while the orange-haired lady carried the child out of the room.

Asmund hissed in pain as he sat in the gym with Cleo sitting beside him, cleaning his wound that he had received from the monstrous wolf that had attacked him on the road, and the antiseptic that she was using caused him to flinch in pain as it cleaned the bite.
“I’m sorry.” Cleo said apologetically with a small wince as she didn’t like that Asmund was in pain.
“It’s alright…” Asmund replied, “Comes with the life…”
Seeing him looking down sadly, Cleo hesitated cleaning his wound again as she wanted to cheer him up and give him a smile, but was unsure if she could say anything to cheer him up, so she stayed silent and continued cleaning his wound while Asmund looked over and inspected the large cell container in the middle of the gym where a cot had been set up so the burnt man, who was now wrapped in healing gauze and was lying on the cot, was recovering thanks to the magical powers of Cleo and Asmund and the herbs they gathered to help with the healing process.
“How is Jed?” Asmund asked Cleo and she sighed as she put away the antiseptic before getting some herbs and placing them on Asmund’s wound, causing him to groan in pain.
“Sorry…” Cleo apologized again, “Jed is fine, he just has a broken arm and some scars but nothing life-threatening so his werewolf healing should heal him fine. Kaleb isn’t happy about his vehicle, but he’ll get over it.”
“I’m just glad it wasn’t worse.” Asmund said as Cleo put a gauze on his shoulder and then gathered all the medical supplies to put them away, “I appreciate your help, Cleo…sorry that our interactions have to deal with drama at the school…it used to not be like this.”
“It’s alright, Asmund.” Cleo replied smiling at him, “You have nothing to apologize for…so any idea why the monsters would be returning?”
“I don’t believe that it has to do with Malivore.” Asmund told her as he had another idea and she looked at him curiously, “If I am right…it is that man in there that is drawing the monsters.”
“Him?” she asked shocked as she looked at the bandaged man, “What makes you think that?”
“The wolf that attacked me was going after him and when Kaleb showed up on the scene, something triggered his dragon side to attack the man.” Asmund explained, “So I suspect that they are after him for some reason, which means he is safer in here if we can contain Kaleb for now until we find a way to shield this man if he recovers from his burns.”
“Hey, guys.” a young boy with dark brown hair and brown eyes said coming into the room and Asmund recognized him as Ethan, the boy who was turned into a supernatural being by Malivore, “MG told me what happened…are you alright, Asmund?”
“Yeah, I’m alright.” Asmund replied as he got up while Ethan turned to look at the bandaged man on the cot, “That beast was a pain, but luckily I was able to kill it before it could do more harm.”
“So…this is the guy that the beast was after?” Ethan asked curiously as he slowly started walking up to the cell, “Damn, I can’t believe that he went through what he did…I…”
Asmund glanced at Ethan in concern as the boy fell silent, sensing that something was amiss, when suddenly, the teenager vanished right in front of him, and Cleo, who stood frozen froze in shock. Asmund realized that Ethan would be heading toward the man lying on the cot so he thrust his hand out towards the cell, feeling his magic surround the teenager before yanking his hand back, making Ethan visible as the boy was thrown across the room, just as Asmund rushed in between Ethan and the cell in an attempt to stop Ethan from attacking the man while Ethan recovered and stood up quickly.
“Get out of the way, Asmund.” he warned dangerously before rushing towards Asmund as fast as he could, only to be frozen in place when Asmund snapped his fingers at the boy, “What the hell?”
“Sorry, Ethan.” Asmund apologized and he snapped his fingers again, causing Ethan to fall to the ground in slumber, “Cleo, go ahead and get MG to put Ethan into a locked room until we can figure out a way to stop these monsters be drawn to this man.”
“Perhaps something like a sunlight ring to prevent them from finding him?” Cleo questioned and Asmund nodded in agreement.
“Yeah, I’ll start making something.” he told her, “I’ll stay here for the time being until the man heals.”
“I will go tend to the others, but call upon me if you need.” Cleo told him and Asmund nodded as he turned to the man on the cot, wondering if the man would be able to heal enough to tell them about his identity.

“What do you mean that he’s gone?” Asmund cried out as he sat up in his bed within the confines of the Mikaelson Villa in New Orleans and his aunt, Rebekah who had long flowing blonde hair and brown eyes, sat on his bedside looking at him sadly, “No, my father can’t be gone…he…he’s the Grand Mage for fuck’s sake.”
“Asmund, I am so sorry but he is gone.” Rebekah said shaking her head as tears flowed down her face, “Klaus and Elijah are searching for your father’s killer as we speak with your Aunt Freya helping them.”
“This…can’t be happening.” Asmund sobbed and grief started to overtake his whole being as he couldn’t believe that his father, Lucien, was truly dead at the hands of a mysterious figure that they had no idea who it was, “I…”
He fell silent as tears continued to fall down his face and Rebekah remained by his side as the teenager lay back down and turned over on his bed to face the wall, thinking about his father and their time together as Lucien taught him magic and gave him control over his werewolf nature during each full moon until Lucien made a special ring for Asmund that allowed him to transform into a werewolf whenever he chose. Asmund cried himself to sleep only to wake up several hours later to find that his aunt had left the room during that time, thus leaving him alone as he looked around the room numbly with echoes of his past filling his mind. As he got out of bed slowly to walk out of his room and onto the balcony looking over the villa’s courtyard, echoes of himself playing with his father in the courtyard when he was young flashed through his mind, and sounds of laughter echoed as visions father and son playfully chased each other while Klaus read on a sofa watching over them with a soft smile upon his face flashed through Asmund’s mind. Asmund continued to walk across the balcony of the villa, his footsteps echoing through the quiet building as he made his way down to one of the bedrooms and entered it to find that it was filled with various magical objects, paintings hung up within the room, and a grand bed in the corner of the room. Pictures of Lucien, Klaus, and Asmund hung on the walls of the room including a picture of when Asmund was a baby with Lucien holding him in his arms, looking at him with unconditional love as Klaus leaned over both of them with a gentle smile on his face and as Asmund walked into the room, he folded his arms around each other as he glanced over the objects with tears in his eyes unable to bear the thought that he’d never see his father again.
“Asmund…” a man’s voice said behind him and Asmund turned his head slightly towards the man, knowing that it was Klaus, “Son, I…”
“Where were you?” Asmund asked angrily and Klaus looked down shamefully as his son turned to him with rage in his eyes, “Why weren’t you there? If you were there, then he would still be alive!”
“Asmund, I’m sorry.” Klaus told him as his eyes filled with tears, “People were coming after Hope and Hayley…”
“So the family saved them, but not my father.” Asmund scoffed with a raised eyebrow, “Hope and Aunt Hayley have a bunch of werewolves that protect them and yet, they needed all of you?!”
“The werewolves weren’t going to be a match for the people coming after your step-sister and Aunt.” Klaus argued trying to make Asmund understand, “We were needed, Asmund…there was no way that…”
“He needed you, Dad!” Asmund shouted angrily as he yelled at the top of his lungs, his heart breaking inside as he couldn’t believe that his family would choose to help his Aunt and step-sister even when they had protection thus leaving his father defenseless even if he was a powerful witch, “Uncle Elijah and the others could have helped Aunt Hayley and Hope, but my father needed you to help him and you abandoned him.”
In agony, Klaus watched his son weep as his heart ached at the sight of his son's suffering, knowing that Asmund was true to blame him for Lucien's death, and Klaus could never forgive himself for being a part of Lucien's death, who gave Asmund life and raised him with unconditional love, protecting him more than Klaus could as Lucien fully loved him with his whole being.
“He didn’t deserve to die.” Asmund wept as he wiped tears from his eyes, “I should have gotten here faster and…”
“Asmund, there was nothing that you could do.” Klaus said as he started walking up to his son, “Even with all of your father’s teachings…the person that killed Lucien was too powerful, even for him and you wouldn’t have had a chance.”
“You don’t know that.” Asmund argued, shaking his head angrily, “I could have distracted the man so that Father could gain the upper hand, but I was too slow and couldn’t arrive in time.”
“Son, listen to me…” Klaus begged as he placed a hand on his son’s shoulder, “Your father loved you with all of his heart and he would have given his life up for you many times over if it meant that you got to live your full life. We shall honor his life by making sure that you do live your life to the fullest.”
Asmund closed his eyes as grief took him, only for it to turn into rage at Klaus abandoning his father in his time of need, and his face turned into a dark scowl as he looked up at his dad and slam a fist into the hybrid’s chest, blasting him out of the room with dark magic and knocking the Original over the railing and Asmund heard a thud of his dad’s body hitting the ground below before he ran over to the balcony and looked over to see Klaus groaning as he rolled over to his feet and slowly got up.
“You’ll pay for abandoning him!” Asmund shouted as his powers continued to grow as rage filled his heart and mind just as his uncles and aunts came into the room with confused looks upon their faces, “All of you left him defenseless and he died!”
“Asmund, calm yourself.” his uncle Elijah called out only for Asmund to thrust his hand towards Elijah and blast him back with magic.
“You’re out of control, nephew.” Kol said as he glared at Asmund, “If you won’t calm yourself…”
Kol rushed up the balcony with vampire speed and sped towards Asmund, only to be blasted back as Asmund mentally knocked him back with dark magic causing the vampire to fly across the balcony into an empty room, falling onto the ground as Asmund magically closed and locked the door so his uncle couldn’t rush at him again before looking down at his family.
“Anyone else?” he seethed in anger when he was grabbed by the shoulder and pushed against the wall of the villa by Klaus, who looked at his son with regret.
“Asmund, please…” he begged, “I know you’re hurting, but this isn’t the way.”
“No offense, father.” Asmund spat as Klaus struggled to keep him against the wall without hurting him, “You have no idea what I am feeling.”
Asmund grabbed his father’s arm, using his magic to boost his strength, as he twisted Klaus’ arm around and knocked him to the ground below before rushing out of the villa from the second floor and jumping down into the streets below, running as fast as he could while putting up an invisibility spell over him and throwing up a blocking spell so his Aunt Freya couldn’t find him by magic or the supernatural beings locate him.

Asmund startled out of his chair as he awoke from his slumber, finding himself sitting on a chair in the gym, and the sun was shining into the room as he looked to see that it was early morning, which meant that the other students would be waking up soon and wanting to practice in the gymnasium so Asmund got up of the chair and stretched his muscles as he walked over the cell and looked in to see the bandaged man still sleeping.
“Well, glad you got some night’s sleep.” Asmund remarked sarcastically as he ran a hand over his hair and sighed before turning back the doors of the gym, “I guess, I should find another place to put you for now until you heal.”
Suddenly Asmund heard shuffling behind him and he turned around in shock to see the bandaged man sitting up on the cot as he tried to take off the bandages.
“Whoa, wait a minute.” Asmund said as he rushed inside the cell to the man’s cell, “I will help you.”
The man turned his head towards Asmund’s voice and hesitated for a moment before nodding, allowing the young tribrid to reach up and begin to unwind the bandages covering the man’s body and looking in shock as he saw that the skin underneath the bandages was completely healed under each bandage. He continued to help the man get out of his bandages and when he took off the man’s bandages covering his hands, Asmund stood back slowly and stared in shock as the man stood up and carefully took off the rest of the bandages to reveal that he was a young man about a year or two older than Asmund and he had short curly light brown hair and blue eyes with a trimmed beard and an angelic handsome face and he looked at Asmund in awe.
“Wow…” Asmund said stunned as he stared at the handsome man in awe, “You’re…well, you’re healed so that is good.”
“I am thankful for thy help” the man spoke in old English, confusing Asmund a little bit but he got the gist of what the man was saying, “My name is Ben and I am in thy debt for saving mine life.”
Asmund could only stare at Ben in awe and confusion as he felt an instant connection to the man, unaware that the new man would change him completely in the upcoming future as Asmund would be thrust into more danger as he would do his best to save the school, his sister, and the world while he is revealed things about his ancestral past that would change him forever in the unforeseen future.

Chapter 4: Pressure

Chapter Text

Asmund stood in his room at the Salvatore school, creating a magical object to shield Ben from any more monsters that were being drawn to the man, and he was just finishing his spells as Ben stood behind him dressed in new clothes that Asmund had offered him, looking around the room curiously while Asmund continued his spell.
“Thy room is very accommodating.” Ben started to say and then saw Asmund raising an eyebrow at his speech, “Sorry, it’s been a while since I have spoken in modern English…I meant to say that your room is very accommodating.”
“Thanks, but this is an average size of a room for all the students here.” Asmund said with a chuckle as he walked over to the young man and handed a golden bracelet to him, “Here, this should help keep the monsters coming after you.”
Ben took the golden bracelet and put it on his left wrist, the bracelet glowing slightly as it fit him perfectly, and the spell was activated to keep monsters from being drawn to Ben thus allowing the young man to be able to relax without having to run anymore.
“I appreciate this…” he said as he tried to remember Asmund’s name and the tribrid smiled gently.
“My name is Asmund.” Asmund told Ben, “As long as you wear this bracelet, then no more monsters will have the urge to kill you.”
“Thank you.” Ben said gratefully, “I should be on the move though just in case.”
Ben started to leave the room as Asmund stared after him, feeling sorry for the young man having to continue running even when he had the bracelet that would protect him, and Asmund looked down, wondering what he could do to help the man, when he had an idea that would ensure Ben’s safety.
“Stay.” he said quickly and Ben stopped to look at Asmund confused, “Stay at the school.”
“I wouldn’t want to impose.” Ben argued and Asmund shook his head gently as he walked up to Ben.
“You wouldn’t be imposing.” he assured the conflicted man, “This school was made to protect supernatural beings and those in need so you’d be safe here with that bracelet on you. Also, there are vampires, witches, and werewolves here that would protect you if it was necessary. I can talk to the temporary headmaster and convince him that you need a place to stay, so stay here with us at the school.”
Ben did not say anything as he tilted his head and Asmund gulped visibly as he hoped he did not go too far in suggesting Ben stay at the school, but he felt that Ben came to the school for a reason and if he could help Ben settle down at school, as well as bring back his sister's humanity, then all would be well and things would go back to normal.
“Very well.” Ben said nodding and Asmund let out a sigh, “If your headmaster agrees, then I shall stay in the school for the time being as long as this bracelet works.”
“As long as that bracelet stays on your wrist, then no more monsters will come after you.” Asmund assured him, “If you’re hungry, I can show you the cafeteria before I go talk to the headmaster.”
“I would appreciate that, Asmund.” Ben said nodding at the young man and Asmund showed Ben around the school before going to talk to the temporary headmaster.
Asmund talked to the man, hoping that he could get approval for Ben to join the school and after a little chat, the headmaster agreed to let Ben attend if there was an open bed so Asmund proposed that Ben could stay in Landon's old bed in his room. The headmaster approved the idea, much to Asmund’s relief, so the young tribrid left the office in relief that he was able to convince the man to let Ben stay instead of sending him out into the world alone. Asmund walked down the halls of the school passing classrooms with students in session learning their lessons from teachers who remained during Alaric's absence and as he walked, his mind drifted to the past where everything was normal at the school where his sister and friends went through high school without fear of monsters coming after them, and he missed those days dearly where all he had to deal with was the loss of his fathers. Suddenly Asmund’s phone rang and he took it out of his pocket, looking at it in confusion as it showed an unknown number calling him so he answered it and held the phone up to his ear.
“Hello?” he said answering the call.
Asmund… a man’s voice said shakily over the other end of the line and Asmund’s eyes widened in shock as he immediately recognized the man’s voice.
“Ryan?” he replied numbly as he couldn’t believe that Malivore’s eldest son, Ryan Clarke, was calling him.

Several hours later; Asmund was driving down the highway leading to Fayetteville, Georgia in his classic impala with Ben sitting beside him in the passenger’s seat as the tribrid thought he should bring Ben with him so that the man wouldn’t feel alone at the school.
“So…we’re going to see a friend of yours?” Ben questioned as he looked at Asmund who chuckled dryly.
“Well, he’s not necessarily a friend.” Asmund admitted and Ben tilted his head in confusion, “Ryan Clarke is the eldest son of Malivore, a golem that was created by the three supernatural beings: the witches, vampires, and werewolves to consume every other supernatural being other than those three species. Ryan tried to do everything to please his father, only to fail as Landon was the ‘golden’ child, and he was supposed to have been in Malivore’s pit but it seems that he made it out.”
“MG told me that Malivore had the ability to make someone be erased from everyone’s memories.” Ben said slowly as he thought to himself while looking down, “How is that you remember Ryan?”
“I don’t know.” Asmund admitted as he was unsure of how he remembered the man, “Hell, I don’t even know why he would be calling me in the first place. We were enemies as I tried to help Hope destroy Malivore and I ran into him a few times during the process. Ryan did have a way to get on my nerves, yet I felt sorry for him.”
“Did he tell you what he wanted?” Ben asked and Asmund shook his head.
“He just said that it was urgent and he told me where to meet him.” he answered, “I know this isn’t the most exciting thing that you could probably be doing right now and I…”
“I like it.” Ben said quickly and Asmund looked at him in surprise, “Look, you are the first one that I saw when I healed and I swore that I was a goner, but I am guessing that you saved me with your magic so I owe you my life. Plus, I don’t know anyone else much at the school and it would have been too awkward not knowing anyone other than you and some of the others.”
“You’ll get used to the rest of the students.” Asmund chuckled with a soft smile on his face, “Though there are some that will get on your nerves, but I’ll be sure to keep them away from bothering you.”
He continued to drive along the highway until he reached a small suburban house in Fayetteville and parked in front of the house, getting out to look at the house in confusion as he raised an eyebrow in slight amusement and walked around the car to the sidewalk.
“To think that Ryan lives here.” he said as Ben got out of the car and stood beside him, “Not quite, what I thought he’d retire to.”
The house’s door opened in front of them and a young man with short curly brown hair and brown eyes, wearing jeans and a button-up blue shirt, came outside and looked at Asmund with a sly grin on his face as his eyes lit up with happiness.
“Asmund Mikaelson.” he greeted with his arms opened wide, “Pleasure to see you again.”
“Ryan Clarke.” Asmund said crossing his arms and leaning back on his car, “What can I do for the former son of Malivore?”
“I think that I could help you, Tribrid.” Ryan replied and Asmund scoffed as he shook his head, “Come on inside and we can talk about it.”
“Yeah, you must think I’m stupid if I’m entering your house which is probably full of traps.” Asmund told the man as he turned to walk away, “Thanks for nothing, Ryan.”
“Don’t you want to know what your sister has planned?” Ryan called out after him and Asmund stopped in his tracks immediately as he heard his sister being mentioned so he turned around, “Hope stopped by earlier wanting my help, which I denied her of course, but I have a feeling that she’ll be back soon enough to request my help again.”
“Perhaps we should listen to what he has to tell us?” Ben questioned turning to Asmund and Ryan looked at Ben in amusement.
“Your friend is smart.” Ryan remarked to Asmund as the Tribrid sighed in irritation, “Come on, Asmund…for old time’s sake?”
“Fine.” Asmund relented as he started walking back towards the house, “But if this is a trick, just know that I’ll kill you without hesitation.”
“Of that, I have no doubt.” Ryan said with a smirk as he let Asmund and Ben inside before heading inside himself, closing the door behind him as he showed both of his guests into the living room, “Can I get you something to drink? Tea maybe?”
“Just tell me what Hope wanted, Clarke.” Asmund replied as he looked around the house to sense if there were any traps lying in wait and he didn’t sense anything harmful to him or Ben, “Why would my sister come to find you?”
“She believed that leaders of Triad were still coming after her, especially since she has unlocked her full tribrid status now.” Ryan explained as he crossed his arms, “Though, I am surprised that they may be coming after her and not you, Asmund.”
“Well, I don’t have my vampire side unlocked.” Asmund told him, “Perhaps, that is why they aren’t after me.”
“Possibly, but to be honest…they weren’t after you in the beginning when they were trying to stop Malivore.” Ryan mused as he thought to himself, “You were only caught up in everything because you worked alongside your sister, however, I never got orders to come after you.”
“You did come after me though.” Asmund pointed out and Ryan chuckled nervously.
“Yeah, that was kind of my own idea.” the man said and Asmund raised an eyebrow, “Hey, don’t look at me like that…you amused me so I thought I could use you to stop my father, we all know how that went when your sister decided to take things into her own hands.”
“Hope has a tendency to do that.” Asmund replied with a heavy sigh, “So she believes that the Triad is still after her?”
“Yes, she is hunting them down so she is probably going to come back here and request that I join her.” Ryan told him as he walked over to his sofa and sat down on it. “I know the locations to some of their facilities which she will be after if she is going to destroy them.”
“Can we get there before her?” Ben asked as Asmund and Ryan looked at him surprised, “I mean…better us than her right?”
“I like this guy.” Ryan said looking at Asmund, who let out a tired sigh, “It is probably best that we head there before her.”
“Forget it.” Asmund argued, “No way am I trusting you, Ryan.”
“You wound me, Asmund.” Ryan said in a mock tone, “After all we’ve been through together, you don’t trust me?”
“It’s hard for me to trust anyone.” the Tribrid muttered in irritation as he crossed his arms and he looked at Ben as he wondered if he should agree to Ryan’s proposal, “Look…I get your reasoning, Ryan, but I’m not going to make any decisions that would put Ben in danger.”
“I don’t mind going.” Ben said much to Asmund’s surprise, “Best to see what is at the facility before your sister gets there, right?”
Asmund sighed as he looked at Ben for a moment before nodding and soon he found himself driving towards a location about an hour away from the city with Ben in the passenger seat and Ryan sitting in the back seat behind both of them and was talking to Ben about his time with Asmund in the past, much to Asmund’s annoyance.
“So there we were, standing over a pit of my father when Hope comes striding into the room like a hero or something and takes over the situation before throwing me and herself into the pit.” Ryan was telling Ben, “I would have preferred to be in the pit with Asmund, but Hope just had to be the hero.”
“Don’t you ever get annoyed with yourself talking so much?” Asmund asked the talkative man while glaring at him through the review mirror.
“Oh don’t be like that, Asmund.” Ryan said smiling as he scooted up closer to the front seats and leaned over the seats while looking at Ben, “Did Asmund tell you that he and I kissed once?”
“Okay, we do not need to be talking about that.” Asmund said flustered as he looked towards Ben, who had a look of surprise and amusement written on his face, “That was a one-time situation and I wouldn’t have had to if I thought we were going to die.”
“Admit it, you liked kissing me.” Ryan chided as he nudged Asmund playfully, “It was unexpected, but delightful nevertheless.”
“And as I said, it won’t happen again.” Asmund growled and Ryan put up his hands in surrender as he shrugged and sat back in his seat while Asmund’s cheeks flustered red as he remembered that situation with Ryan, “How far until we get to the facility?”
“Should be within the next 10 minutes.” Ryan said, “So I’m assuming I stay inside of the vehicle while you go investigate?”
“Yeah, like I’m going to agree to that.” Asmund scoffed, “We’re all going inside to see what we can find.”
“So what skills do you have to offer?” Ryan asked as he turned to look at Ben, who hesitated.
“You don’t need to do anything, Ben.” Asmund said quickly as he didn’t want Ben in danger, “The Triad aren’t ones to be trifled with so it’s best if I handle things.”
“Oh, there shouldn’t be any Triad members at the facility.” Ryan told them, “Last I knew, this place was just a storage area.”
“Doesn’t matter.” Asmund said as they arrived at the facility, “Just stay close…both of you.”
They all got out of the impala and quietly entered the building, finding that Ryan was right as there were only a few guards that Asmund put to sleep, so the facility was mainly abandoned thus allowing them to sneak further into the building undetected by any of the Triad members.
“So what would Hope find here that would lead her to the leaders of Triad?” Asmund asked Ryan as they walked along the many shelves of boxes filled with magical objects.
“I’m not sure.” Ryan answered as he looked at the boxes curiously, “Though if Hope believed that something would be here, then we should keep looking.”
Asmund looked at Ben to make sure that the man was alright and Ben nodded him in assurance, which settled Asmund’s mind as they continued to walk along the shelves searching for whatever would be useful to Hope so they could stop whatever she had planned once she found the leaders of Triad so they continued walking for a little while.
“This is stupid.” Ryan said angrily as he shoved a box that he was examining, “Nothing in here gives any indication on the location of where the Triad leaders are holding up.”
“Something in here must give us a clue.” Asmund replied with a heavy sigh and he looked back to see Ben looking through some of the boxes, “Hope wouldn’t have wanted this location if there wasn’t something here that could be useful to her.”
“You’re right about that.” Hope’s voice echoed and Asmund quickly ran in front of Ben to protect him as he looked around for his sister, “Clarke, I’m surprised that you betrayed me after Triad used you to destroy your own father.”
“Hope, we can work things out.” Asmund said as he continued to look around while protecting Ben, “Just come home and we can talk about it.”
“You always thought that you could save me, brother.” Hope’s voice echoed with a scoff and Asmund turned around as he sensed something behind him only to see Hope standing there, “You’re weak, Asmund and you can’t say anything to turn my humanity back on.”
“Hope, I know that you’re hurting since Landon is gone but you need to come back and stop this crusade to go after the Triad.” Asmund begged, “All of our friends are waiting for you to return.”
“Oh please.” his sister scoffed in disgust as she started to slowly walk up to him, “Lizzie and Josie hate me right now after what I did to Mr. Saltzman and the others see me as a threat so I don’t think I should go back to that dump.”
“The item you seek isn’t here, Hope.” Ryan said and she looked at him with a smirk.
“Oh, I know that.” she replied, “I told you about wanting to visit this place because I knew that you’d call my brother to investigate.”
“You planned for Asmund to come here?” Ben questioned and she looked at him with a slight look of confusion, “Why?”
“You’re new.” Hope commented with a raised eyebrow, “I wanted to face my brother in person so he would know that I am stronger than him and that he can’t beat me.”
“Ryan, get Ben to safety.” Asmund ordered and Ben looked at him worriedly while Ryan grabbed the man’s arm and started to move back to safety as Asmund got into a fighting stance, “You want to do this, Hope? Let’s do this then.”
“Ictus!” Hope commanded thrusting a hand at Asmund just as he thrust his hand out at her.
“Motus!” Asmund said as he released his magic at her, causing both of them to be knocked back into the air as each spell hit its intended target.
Asmund groaned as he hit the ground, his breath knocked out of him as he landed harshly on his back, before looking up to see Hope already getting back on her feet and rushing towards him with vampire speed. Asmund gasped as time seemed to slow down as he saw Hope moving as if she was moving with slow speed and he saw her running side to side before running behind him, only for him to throw up a shield just in time thus knocking her back as she hit the shield with her fist.
What the hell? Asmund thought to himself in confusion as he wondered how the hell he was able to track Hope’s movements with his eyes, How is this possible?
“What the hell was that?!” Hope shouted angrily as she got up and glared at him in rage, “How did you see me?”
“Like I’d tell you.” Asmund said pretending to know exactly how he was able to see her at slow speed, “We don’t have to do this, Hope.”
“Yeah, no chance.” his sister replied slanting her eyes at him dangerously as she sped towards him again only for him to track her movement easily and dodge her attacks, “This is impossible…”
Asmund ducked under his fists, summoning his magic into his hand and combining his werewolf strength with the magic, before punching his sister in the stomach and blasting her across the room and causing her to collide into a wall while he got up and let out a shaky breath.
“Asmund.” Ben called out and Asmund looked to see the young man coming up to him with Ryan by his side, “We should leave immediately before your sister regains her wits.”
“Let’s go then.” Asmund said as Ben looked at Asmund’s shoulder which was sore from falling on the ground and he saw a look of concern in the man’s eyes, “I’m okay, Ben.”
Ben looked at the young tribrid for a moment before nodding and they started running towards the exit of the building in hopes of getting away in time before Hope regained her composure and came after them. As they ran towards the exit; Ryan knocked into one of the objects on the shelves and knocked it to the ground, making it clang harshly on the floor and causing all three men to stop in their tracks to look at the object just as it started glowing with light. All three men groaned as they shielded their eyes from the bright light and then lowered their arms as the light faded, looking around to see that they weren’t at the factory anymore and saw that they were now in a lively city during the day, and they all looked around confused as people passed them by on the streets.
“Where the hell are we?” Ryan asked confused and Asmund continued to look around until he recognized the city immediately as he heard music playing the streets.
“No…” he whispered as his eyes widened in shock and Ben looked at him concerned, “This is New Orleans.”
“How are we in New Orleans?” Ryan questioned and Asmund shook his head as he couldn’t believe that he was back in his hometown.
“Perhaps that artifact teleported us here?” Ben said and Asmund continued to look around at the lively people celebrating in the streets with music and parades until he was bumped.
“Oh, I am so sorry.” a woman said and Asmund reached out to keep the woman from falling over only to stare in shock as he saw that the woman had long blonde hair and brown eyes wearing jeans and a white shirt, “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m okay.” Asmund replied numbly as he recognized the woman immediately.
The woman smiled at him before nodding and heading off into the crowd as Asmund looked after her while Ben and Ryan came up beside him, seeing a shocked look on Asmund’s face.
“Asmund, are you okay?” Ben asked, “Do you know that woman?”
“Her name is Camille O’Connell.” Asmund answered shakily and Ryan looked in the direction where Camille left, “I knew her.”
“So she’s an old friend.” Ryan said shrugging, “Is it that shocking? Though I’m confused as to why she didn’t recognize you.”
“She didn’t recognize me because she didn’t know me at my current age.” Asmund told him, “She knew me when I was 5 years old…we’re in the past.”
Both men looked at him in shock as they couldn’t believe that they were in New Orleans in the past and they had no idea why they were sent to the past or how to return to their original timeline, though Asmund knew that if he was in the past…then his fathers, Lucien and Klaus, would still be alive in the past thus being given the opportunity to see his departed fathers and he wasn’t going to pass the chance to see both of them again.

Chapter 5: Family Reunion

Chapter Text

In the street of New Orleans, Asmund found himself being transported back to the past somehow with Ben and Ryan by his side, and all Asmund could think of was finding both of his fathers again and getting to see them again so he started heading towards the Mikaelson villa when Ryan grabbed his arm causing Asmund to turn back to the man.
“What are you doing?” Asmund questioned and Ryan sighed as he looked at the Tribrid sadly.
“I understand that you are probably thinking about seeing your fathers but we don’t know what will happen to the present if we mess with the past.” Ryan said.
“To hell with that.” Asmund growled angrily as he yanked his arm out of Ryan’s grip, “That object sent us here for a reason, and for all we know, that reason is for me to see my fathers.”
“Or to test you by knowing that you’d want to see your fathers, but you should fight the urge to do so.” Ryan argued, “Asmund, I understand that…”
“You don’t understand anything about me, Clarke.” Asmund interrupted as his eyes glowed yellow as his wolf started to emerge in rage, “My fathers died to protect me when they shouldn’t have had to die in the first place, so I am not going to let this opportunity pass me by if I am able to see them again.”
“Asmund.” Ryan hissed as the young Mikaelson started walking briskly towards his family’s villa.
Ryan groaned in frustration as he and Ben started following Asmund quickly down the streets of New Orleans as the young tribrid moved through the crowd as quickly in order to make it to the villa as fast as he could, all the while memories of his past flooding through his mind as he could only picture both of his fathers and nothing else mattered to him in that moment. As he was coming past several stores and about to step out onto the street to cross the road, a door opened to a bar behind him and Asmund froze suddenly as he smelt a familiar scent filling his nose, eyes widening in shock as his heart began to beat fast in his chest, and he recognized the scent at once as he heard footsteps echoing on the sidewalk behind him
“Thank you for the drinks, Cami.” a man’s voice called out behind Asmund and tears started to fill the young man’s eyes, “See you tonight at the party?”
“I wouldn’t miss it.” Camille’s voice said and Asmund turned slowly to see a man with brown hair, brown eyes, and a trimmed beard in his early thirties standing at the front door dressed in black jeans, a red t-shirt, and a leather jacket over his shirt, “See you at 5 O’clock.”
The man waved to Camille and let the door close before heading past Asmund with his phone out in his hand, browsing on it busily as he didn’t notice Asmund standing right there and moved right past the frozen man who was unable to speak as he couldn’t believe that his father was standing right in front of him alive and well. Asmund continued to watch his father walk away when suddenly the man stopped as Ben and Ryan came up beside the young Mikaelson, who realized that his father was about to turn around and see them standing there.
“Invisique.” Asmund muttered quickly as he cast an invisible spell upon him and the others just as Lucien turned fully around and looked around confused before shaking his head slightly and moving on just as Asmund’s spell stopped.
Asmund let out a heavy sigh as his father disappear into the crowd of people, most likely going to get things prepared for a party that he mentioned to Camille, and Ben looked at Asmund curiously.
“That was your father…” he said and Asmund nodded.
“Yeah, one of them.” he told the man, “That was my father, Lucien…he gave birth to me.”
“Your father gave birth to you?” Ryan questioned stunned at this revelation.
“He is a hermaphrodite, so he was born with the ability to give birth.” Asmund explained, “My birth was special since my father, Klaus, was an Original Hybrid and Lucien was the Grand Mage Hybrid.”
“Grand Mage?” Ben questioned as his eyes widened in shock and Asmund looked at him confused.
“Yeah, my father is able to use magic unlike others and I heard stories about him being reincarnated every so many years.” Asmund told him and Ben fell silent as he seemed to be thinking to himself, “Anyways, I froze and couldn’t let my father see me just yet…”
“Is there a place that we go so that we can figure out what to do?” Ryan asked as he looked around, “I don’t think standing out in the open should be our best plan.”
“Possibly.” Asmund answered as he thought of a place that they could hide in the meantime, “Follow me.”
He led them down the streets until they reached a church and went inside the place, where Asmund subtly lead them to stairs leading to a loft, that was a few floors up, and opened the room to show that it was empty so they walked inside and closed the door behind them.
“How do you know this place?” Ryan questioned curiously as he looked around the small room.
“My Aunt Davina used to live here when my uncle, Marcel, kept her hidden from the witches of the French Quarter years ago.” Asmund explained as he walked over to the window and looked out onto the city, hearing people still celebrating in the streets, “Don’t worry, it’s been a long while since she’s been in this place so we should be hidden away from now.”
“Well, I’m going to do some recon.” Ryan said as he headed towards the door and Asmund opened his mouth to object, “And before you say anything, I am human so I can blend in easier than you two supernatural beings can so you stay here until I get back with any useful information.”
“How can we trust you?” Ben questioned slanting his eyes at the former son of Malivore.
“Look, I want to get back to our own timeline just as bad as you guys do.” Ryan argued, “Now just stay here and don’t fuck anything up while I’m gone.”
Asmund sighed grudgingly as the man left the room, knowing that Ryan had a point since his relatives could use magic to find them easily if they continued to wander around aimlessly, especially Lucien since his father was the Grand Mage and could sense things most witches couldn’t, which made Asmund wonder if his father didn’t truly see them when he cast the invisibility spell and just chose to ignore Asmund and the others. Asmund sighed as he went to sit down on a chair in the room, running a hand through his hair while trying to contemplate what he should do in order for them to make their way back home.
“Asmund…” Ben said breaking the silence and Asmund looked up at the young man to see that he looked like he had something bothering him, “You say that your father, Lucien, is known as the Grand Mage?”
“Yeah, my father is very powerful as he is able to use spells without incantations and seems to have a large capacity for magic since he can do spells, unlike other witches.” Asmund explained, “My Aunt Freya once told me that he was reincarnated after so many years throughout history and is considered to be the oldest magic-user in the history of humanity.”
“Do you know much else about him?” Ben asked somewhat nervously and Asmund shook his head before slanting his eyes at the man in front of him.
“What are you not telling me, Ben?” he questioned and Ben looked at him, biting his lower lip in hesitation.
“I…I think I should tell you who I really am.” he said and Asmund raised an eyebrow as the man took a seat in a spare chair, “My real name is unable to be pronounced by humanity, but they refer to me as Prometheus and I am a demigod that was consumed by Malivore many years ago so when Malivore was destroyed, I found myself in a whole new time with monsters still coming after me.”
“A…demigod.” Asmund replied numbly as he couldn’t believe that an actual demigod was sitting in front of him, “I thought that the gods were just Myths.”
“Myths are usually based upon some truths.” Ben said chuckling and Asmund sat back in his seat, “My father cursed me to be chained on a rock with monsters eating me for eternity as each morning, I am healed and the torture starts over again.”
“I know the tale…” Asmund said as he felt sorry for Ben going through all that pain.
“I was then betrayed by my step-sister and consumed by Malivore, spending whoever knows how long stuck in his pit alone.” Ben continued to explain his past, “After being burnt by a fire monster, I awoke to find you in front of me.”
“I am so sorry that you had to endure all of that.” Asmund told him and Ben nodded sadly before taking in a deep breath and looking at the young Mikaelson.
“The reason I am telling you this is because I have something to tell you about your father.” Ben said looking at Asmund seriously and Asmund tilted his head in confusion as he wondered what the man, rather demigod, would want to tell him about his own father, “There was a legend in my family about someone that had a god-like power over magic, so much power they could defy even the laws that the gods created in the world, and in turn be able to defy the gods who struggled to contain the magic within the being.”
“Sounds like a real problem to your family.” Asmund remarked, “Though, they did curse you right? So you probably hate them.”
“I do hate my father for what he did, but I am no match for my family.” Ben said nodding, “After my father cursed me and I laid on that rock, chained for years, I vowed to find the being with god-like magic to battle them.”
“Alright, what does this have to do with my father?” Asmund asked crossing his arms in confusion.
“The humans revered this being that had the power of a god, and called it by one name only.” Ben answered, “The Grand Mage.”
While Asmund stared in shock, he could not believe his father, Lucien, had the same title as a being that had been revered by humanity as possessing god-like powers and could defy the laws of the gods, to the point of the gods being concerned that he may rise up against them, and he sat back in his seat, trying to take everything in that Ben just told him.
“So…my father and this being share the same title.” he said nodding slowly as he tried to wrap his head around everything.
“I don’t think they shared just a title.” Ben replied and Asmund tilted his head, “I believe that Lucien is the same being, but I think it’s more than that. I believe that your father…is actually one of the gods.”
Asmund scoffed as he heard that Ben believed that Lucien was actually one of the Gods of Eld and Asmund shook his head in disbelief as he got out of his chair and walked to the window overlooking the town, struggling to comprehend why Ben would believe that his father was a god.
“I may be wrong, Asmund.” Ben said seeing the conflicted look on the young man’s face, “I just…I sense that your father is more than just an all-powerful witch…I just don’t know which god he is.”
“Well, that’s helpful.” Asmund muttered as he crossed his arms and sighed in irritation before looking up at Ben to see that the demigod had a look of hurt on his face, “I’m sorry…I’m not irritated with you…I’m just irritated with the situation that we’re in. We were sent to the past for a reason and I can’t think of a reason why unless I need to speak to my fathers again.”
“That can disrupt the timeline if you’re not careful.” Ben warned him, “I don’t know much about time travel, but I don’t believe that you should change anything.”
Suddenly the door blasted loose from its hinges and flung at Ben when Asmund swung his arm at the door and deflected the trajectory of the door into the wall in order to save Ben from being hit by the door. As Asmund and Ben recovered from the sudden outburst of magic, footsteps echoed across the floor slowly and both men turned their heads to see a woman with long dirty blonde hair and brown eyes enter the room dressed in all black with an emerald stone hanging around her neck.
“Lucien told me that he sensed a new presence in town, which I failed to sense but here we are.” the woman said glaring at Asmund, who gulped visibly as he stood across from his Aunt Freya, “How about you two tell me who you are and what you’re doing in New Orleans?”
Asmund moved in front of Ben in order to shield him from Freya as his witch aunt looked at them, not showing any hostility, but Asmund knew better what his aunt was capable of and he hoped that he wouldn’t get into a magical battle with her though he was certain that he could probably hold his own against her if he didn’t have to worry about Ben being caught in the crossfire.
“I’ll ask you again.” Freya said as she took a step forward, “Who the hell are you?”
“You always this way with strangers?” Ben remarked and Freya flashed her eyes dangerously at him.
“Motus.” she commanded thrusting her hand at him when Asmund held up a hand, throwing up a magical shield to deflect his aunt’s spell causing her to look at him in surprise, “You’re a witch…”
“You don’t want to do this.” Asmund told her trying to keep the peace between them, “We’re not here to cause problems, but due to the sake of the future…we can’t divulge our identities.”
“That’s not going to work for me.” Freya said summoning a fireball to her left hand, “I’m going to ask this one last time…who are you?”
“That’s enough, Freya.” Lucien’s voice echoed from outside of the room and Asmund froze as he heard his father speaking while footsteps came through the hallway and stopped at the door as Lucien appeared, “If they wanted to do harm, then they would have done so already…isn’t that right, witch?”
Lucien leaned against the doorway with a smirk on his face, looking at Asmund, and Asmund stood there numbly as Freya stepped back away while Asmund could stare at his father in silence as the older man looked back at him, eyes analyzing the young Mikaelson carefully.
“You’re…not from this timeline.” Lucien said and Freya turned to him in confusion as her jaw dropped in shock while Asmund became rigged, “Though I can’t say for certain if my findings are true, I’m assuming that is why you can’t say anything about your identities.”
“You are right, sir.” Ben replied much to Asmund’s surprise considering that Ben had warned him about disrupting the timeline in the first place and Asmund glared at him while Lucien nodded slowly, “We’re trying to find out why we were sent here and how to get back.”
“Lucien, you can’t seriously believe that they are telling the truth.” Freya argued, “If Klaus was here, he’d…”
“Klaus isn’t going to do anything, Freya.” Lucien told her as he looked at her seriously and she saw that he was very serious so she nodded reluctantly, “Good…these men shall join us at the villa.”
“I think we would be better here.” Asmund said as his father turned to leave only to turn back to the young Tribrid.
“Nonsense.” he said with a smile, “You must attend our party, and then afterward, Freya and I could help you as best as we can.”
Asmund nodded and looked at Ben while Lucien started to leave with Freya behind him and Asmund hoped that they wouldn’t regret going to the party being hosted by his family.
“Oh and tell your friend that he’s invited as well.” Lucien called out over his shoulder, “His…aura was different so I was able to detect him almost immediately earlier when you did that amazing invisibility spell. You almost had me fooled, but not quite enough. See you at the party.”

Several hours later; Asmund had changed into a suit that his father had sent over and was fidgeting with his black tie when the door to the room opened and he looked up to see Ben walking in dressed in a black suit with a white button up shirt and no tie. Asmund stared at the demigod in awe as he found the man looking angelic in his suit and he felt something inside of him flutter at the sight of Ben standing there in front of him.
“Wow.” Asmund said and Ben smiled softly at him, “You look…”
“Snazzy look, Ben.” Ryan interrupted as he came in from behind Ben, dressed up in a red suit, “Well, we’re all dressed up so can we go to the party and do some recon?”
“No recon necessary, Clarke.” Asmund said sighing, “I know my family and I know the villa by heart so I know all the secret hiding spots if we believe that we can find something to help us get home.”
“Fine.” Ryan replied with a pout, “I love recons.”
“Come on.” Asmund said as he brushed past both men, “We have a party to attend.”
They left the chapel and made their way towards the Mikaelson Villa and arrived to find that the place was lively with many people partying together inside of the courtyard as they walked up to the entrance and entered, looking around at the festivities occurring when Lucien came up to them and greeted them.
“Welcome to the Mikaelson Villa.” he said nodding at them, “Please, come on in.”
“We don’t want to impose.” Asmund replied as he didn’t want to get close to any more family members in case his identity may be found out by one of them.
“Nonsense.” a man said coming up to them and Asmund turned startled as he saw a man with stylish brown hair and brown eyes coming up to them in a fancy black suit, “You are Lucien’s guests and this is a party after all.”
Asmund could only stare at the man in shock as his uncle, Elijah, was the man standing in front of him and he hadn’t seen Elijah for years in the current timeline since the vampire had left the United States to live in France after Lucien and Klaus died.
“Come, join the festivities.” Elijah beckoned for them to enter the courtyard, “There are refreshments and food for you to enjoy at your leisure.”
“Don’t mind if I do.” Ryan said with a grin as he headed straight towards the food while Asmund groaned inside.
“Elijah, why don’t you take…” Lucien started to say as he looked at Ben.
 “Ben.” the demigod told him.
“Why don’t you take Ben and show him around while I have a chat with our witch friend.” Lucien suggested to the Original and Elijah nodded while motioning for Ben to follow him.
Ben looked at Asmund unsure if he should follow the vampire, but Asmund nodded in assurance knowing that his uncle wouldn’t harm the demigod, so Ben left with Elijah as Lucien walked up to Asmund with a small smile on his face.
“Shall we go talk?” he offered and Asmund nodded curtly.
He walked up the stairs and automatically walked inside of room as he thought how he was going to explain to his father what had happened and Lucien magically slammed the door behind them, causing Asmund to jump and turn around startled.
“Okay, who are you truly?” Lucien asked glaring at Asmund dangerously and Asmund gulped, “You seem to know your way around the villa and out of all the rooms that you could choose, you chose this room?”
Asmund looked at him confused for a moment before looking around the room and seeing that he had automatically walked into his childhood bedroom without meaning to walk into the room in the first place, he started to back up slowly.
“Look, I can explain…” he started to say and Lucien slanted his eyes at him as fire appeared on his hands, “I’m not here to harm you or your family.”
“I don’t believe you.” Lucien snarled as he raised his hands to blast Asmund with fire.
“Always and Forever!” Asmund shouted as he threw up his arms in protection and Lucien’s eyes widened in shock before his eyes shook as he looked at Asmund curiously.
“How…” Lucien started to say when Asmund dug into his shirt and brought out a pendant of a crescent moon with a topaz jewel in the middle of the pendant.
Lucien’s eyes lit up in recognition as he looked at the pendant, reaching into his own shirt and bringing out the same pendant hanging around his neck causing Asmund to look at his father with a sad look written upon his face as Lucien walked up slowly to him.
“This is impossible…” Lucien said shakily as his hands trembled and he reached Asmund, reaching out and touching his son’s face as tears fell upon his face, “Asmund?”
“Hey, Dad.” Asmund replied crying in happiness and Lucien pulled Asmund into a tight hug as his whole body trembled in shock.
“You’ve grown so much.” Lucien said as his voice broke and he pulled back to look at his grown-up son, “You need to tell me all that’s happened. Wait…no, you can’t tell me anything that happens.”
“I need to tell you, Dad.” Asmund begged with an urgent shake of his head.
“Asmund, if you tell me what happens then you can change your current timeline.” Lucien argued as he held up a hand and started to walk away.
“You die, Dad.” Asmund called after his father, voice cracking as grief started taking over him and Lucien froze in place, “You die when...”
“Enough!” Lucien ordered as he turned back to his son and Asmund shut his mouth at his father’s outburst, “Asmund…it’s bad enough that I know that you’re my son from the future...I can’t know anything else about what happens.”
“We can stop it if you are prepared, Dad.” Asmund argued and Lucien shook his head, “I can’t lose you, Dad.”
“Asmund, I understand that.” Lucien said coming up to Asmund and holding him by his shoulders, “But the future can’t be changed no matter how much you want it to be changed.”
Rather than accepting that he would not be able to change his past by warning his father of his death in ten years and change the outcome of his agony, Asmund walked over to the window overlooking the streets below, crying silently as he crossed his arms and Lucien sighed as he walked over to his son.
“Asmund, I’m sorry.” he said, “I know that you want to save me, but I accept my destiny and it will help shape your future.”
“My future is awful, Dad.” Asmund replied angrily, “Having to go through all that suffering and then dealing with the outcome of your passing…I need to change it for everyone’s sake.”
“I’m assuming that something else has happened.” Lucien said as he looked into his son’s eyes and his eyes widened, “Something bad has happened…someone close to you has betrayed you.”
Asmund shifted his eyes down as he didn’t answer his father and Lucien tilted his head carefully before reaching for his son’s face.
“I know that I shouldn’t do this, but something bad is plaguing your mind.” Lucien said as he touched his son’s cheeks and made him look at him, “Close your eyes, son…allow me in your mind.”
Asmund did as his father asked of him and closed his eyes, opening his mind to the man and allowing him to be shown everything recent that had transpired with Hope becoming the full Tribrid and turning her humanity off thus hurting Alaric, leaving the school, then coming after her own brother as he tried to redeem her. Lucien broke away in shock as he let go of his son’s face and stumbled back in horror, unable to believe that his niece would be walking down the dark path like Klaus used to long ago and he looked at his son in disbelief.
“Asmund, I’m so sorry.” he apologized, “You should have never dealt with all of this alone.”
“I need answers, Dad.” Asmund said, “How do I bring Hope to turn her humanity back on.”
Suddenly the door blew open and Asmund turned towards the doorway in a startle, and his eyes shook as he saw Klaus standing in the doorway with a look of rage on his face as his eyes glowed golden and black veins appeared on his face, showing his vampire side and he tossed Ben inside the room, causing the demigod to skid across the floor and Asmund rushed up to Ben in concern as Klaus walked up to him.
“What is this about Hope having her humanity off?” Klaus questioned angrily as he clenched his fist and Asmund looked up at him, gulping nervously as he wondered how he was going to explain everything to Klaus of all people, “And who the hell are you?”

Chapter 6: Decisions

Chapter Text

Asmund’s heart pounded in his chest nervously, his ears ringing with high pitched noise and his vision started to haze as he stood across his father, Klaus Mikaelson who had just barged into the room and thrown Ben inside of the room while demanding to know why Hope’s humanity was off and who Asmund was.
“I asked you a question.” Klaus said in warning as he stepped towards his son, “Who the hell are you and what are you doing in MY house?”
“I…I…um.” Asmund stammered nervously as he didn’t know how to answer his angry father.
“Klaus, enough.” Lucien said in a stern voice and Klaus stopped immediately as Lucien walked over to Ben and helped him up, “He isn’t here to harm us.”
“So trusting are you?” Klaus replied with a huff, “He knows about Hope supposedly turning off her humanity in the future and you trust him?”
“Littlest Wolves.” Asmund said and Klaus looked at him in shock as his eyes widened in recognition, “That’s your nickname for your son and daughter…”
“How?” Klaus stammered as he looked at his son up and down before walking up to the young man slowly, “Asmund?”
“Hey, Dad.” Asmund said with tears in his eyes and he rushed up to hug Klaus tightly, body shaking as he wrapped his arms around the older man.
Klaus’ eyes shook as he couldn’t believe that his son was standing in front of him all grown up and somehow from the future and now Asmund had information from the future concerning Hope becoming the full tribrid and turning off her humanity.
“How is this possible?” Klaus asked in confusion as he held his son close.
“That…that is a long story.” Asmund answered sadly, “Just know that I am trying to make my way back to save Hope.”
“Lucien, what’s he talking about?” Klaus questioned turning to Asmund’s other father who summarized what he had seen inside Asmund’s memories, making Klaus sigh in frustration and look down while thinking to himself, “I see…so you’re trying to figure out how you got here and redeem Hope when you get back.”
“Dad, is there anything in your grimoire that could help me?” Asmund asked looking at Lucien, “Maybe a spell?”
“We can check, but I’m not guaranteeing anything.” Lucien answered, “I think Freya and Davina should know…they are two of the most knowledgeable witches during this time in New Orleans.”
Asmund nodded and Lucien smiled at him softly before looking at Ben, an unrecognizable look on his face for a moment, before he left the room and Klaus stayed behind with Ben and Asmund, the Original vampire looking at the demigod apologetically.
“I’m sorry about throwing you like that.” he said to Ben who shook his head.
“I’ve had worse, sir.” Ben replied as Asmund grimaced since he knew the demigod’s past and all the pain and suffering the man had to go through over a lifetime, “You…you’re a vampire?”
“Yes…I am one of the Originals vampires, the first in existence.” Klaus told the man with a raised eyebrow as he glanced between Ben and Asmund, “What is your relationship with my son?”
“Dad.” Asmund said mortified as his eyes widened in shock and his face turned red in embarrassment.
“What?” Klaus questioned with a sly smirk, “I want to know about my grown-up son.”
“He saved my life and I am extremely grateful.” Ben admitted honestly as he looked at Asmund with a soft look, “I owe him everything and more since I would have still been hunted by monsters if he hadn’t used his magic to heal me and protect me from any more monsters coming after me.”
Asmund stared at Ben in awe as he didn’t think that the demigod would be so honest about his feelings about being saved by the young Tribrid and he looked at the demigod, wondering if the man had ever received any kindness in his life since being cursed by his father and all Asmund knew was that he didn’t want Ben to go through that pain ever again if he could help it.
“Well, it’s good to hear that my son is a very powerful witch indeed taking after his father, Lucien.” Klaus said proudly as he smiled at his son, “Come, let us go talk to the others while the party continues downstairs.”
Asmund nodded as he looked at his father and began to follow him out of the room, when suddenly a vision of war flashed through his mind as he saw visions of bodies lying dead in the streets of New Orleans covering the roads in thick blood while storms raged over the city as looming darkness threatened to envelop everything in its path. Asmund groaned in pain as he held a hand up to his head, stumbling back and forth until Ben caught him and held him steady while looking at the young Mikaelson with concern written on his face just as Klaus turned back and sped to his son with vampire speed.
“Asmund, what is it?” he questioned, voice filled with worry and concern as he looked at his son with dread.
“I…I had a vision.” Asmund said and he explained what he had seen to his father and Ben.
The Original vampire sighed in frustration as he didn’t know if Asmund was seeing something that would come from his son’s timeline or through the past and it had already passed for Asmund, thus making it impossible to foresee when the events would happen and if the Mikaelson family as it is could prevent it.
“We need to get you to your father and Aunt Freya.” Klaus muttered angrily as he easily picked up his son in his arms, “Ben, would you be a good chap and just follow us into the room at the end of the hall?”
Ben nodded and Klaus used his speed to dash across the balcony, not being seen by anyone down below who was still enjoying the party, and entered a massive room at the end of the hall where Lucien was talking with Elijah, Freya, and Davina, who all turned when Klaus came in with Asmund in his arms.
“Lucien, he had a vision.” Klaus said as he walked over and put Asmund on the couch before getting him a glass of water while Elijah, Freya, and Davina all looked at Asmund stunned as Lucien had told them about his true identity, “Here, drink this.”
Asmund drank the water as his aunt sat across from him and looked at her nephew with amazement as she couldn't believe that he was truly from the future, yet the pendant around his neck clearly belonged to Lucien who would have only given it to his son when he grew up, so she had no reason to doubt Lucien’s word that this was indeed Asmund in front of her.
“As much as I’d like to know how this is possible…” she started to say and Asmund looked up at her just as Ben came into the room, “Lucien says that Hope turned into a full Tribrid in the future and turned off her humanity when she had to kill the love of her life.”
“That’s correct.” Asmund said nodding, “An artifact sent us here in the past for a reason and I believe that it has to do with a way to turn Hope’s humanity back on.”
“We can search all the grimoires we have to see if we could find an answer.” Davina offered as a thought occurred to Asmund as he turned to Lucien.
“What’s the date?” he asked slowly and his father looked at him confused, “Dad, what’s the date?”
“March 11th, 2017.” Lucien said crossing his arms as Asmund’s eyes widened in horror as his body trembled slightly, “Asmund, why…”
He looked at his son, who looked up at him with fear and dread, and Lucien knew immediately that his death must be around the date if Asmund was looking as horrified as he was displaying and he gulped visibly before shaking himself off.
“Never mind that.” he said as he turned to Freya, “Could you make some herb tea to calm Asmund down after that vision he had?”
“Of course.” Freya replied as she looked at Asmund with a gentle smile before standing up and heading to get Asmund a fresh cup of tea mixed with some herbs to calm him while Elijah stood across from Asmund.
He looked at his nephew with a pensive look on his face as he saw that Asmund seemed to be weighed down by a lot of burdens and he sensed that his nephew had been through a lot of grief and sorrow in his young life, even if the Asmund of his timeline was lively and outgoing in life, and Elijah couldn’t imagine when the young man had gone through what seemed to have been alone without any of the other family members to help out.
“Can you guys give us the room?” Elijah asked his siblings, causing everyone to look at him in surprise, “I’d like to talk to my nephew alone, please.”
“Elijah, I…” Klaus started to argue when Asmund reached out and stopped his father.
“It’s alright, Dad.” He said nodding in assurance, “Maybe you guys could give us a moment.”
Klaus looked at his son in concern as he didn’t want to overwhelm the young man with his uncle bombarding him with questions, but Asmund looked at him with renowned strength thus allowing Klaus to breathe a little bit easier so he left with the others and Asmund sat back down on the sofa, looking at his uncle sadly.
“What happened, Asmund?” Elijah asked quietly and Asmund looked away in pain as he recalled everything that had happened since Klaus and Lucien passed away three years ago, “You’re not as cheery as I knew you.”
“It’s a long story, Uncle Elijah.” Asmund answered and Elijah smiled gently at him as he came over and sat next to his nephew, placing a comforting hand on the young man’s hand.
“I’m listening.” his uncle said and Asmund took in a deep breath before casting a barrier spell around the room so none of the others could listen in and he proceeded to tell his uncle everything that had transpired.
While Elijah and Asmund chatted in private, the other Originals started walking downstairs with Ben staying behind to look at the room, wondering if Asmund would be okay alone with his uncle, who apparently hadn’t seen the young man recently in the present timeline, and as Ben stayed behind, Lucien looked back at the young demigod sensing that he was older than he looked and had a powerful bloodline within him, though not a witch bloodline.
“Ben was it?” Lucien asked and the demigod turned to him, “I believe we should have a chat in private ourselves.”
“I agree, Grand Mage.” Ben answered with a nod and Lucien raised an eyebrow in surprise, “Asmund told me of your title.”
“Interesting…” Lucien mused, “Come, follow me.”
He led the way to one of the rooms upstairs and entered it, finding Klaus’ paintings still on their easels on display, and he waited to close the doors until Ben entered the room and turned to the young man with a smile on his face.
“Would you like a drink?”  he asked and Ben was about to come up with a lie about his age, “No need to lie, son…I know someone ancient when I sense them so you’re old enough.”
Ben sighed in resignation as Lucien smirked and went to get him a drink from the bar, pouring one of the oldest whiskey that he had collected over the years and poured two drinks for the both of them, and Ben came over to the bar as he sat down on one of the barstools and took the glass from the Grand Mage.
“So…does Asmund know what you are?” Lucien questioned as he took a sip of his drink and Ben nodded, “And what exactly is that?”
“I’m the demigod Prometheus.” Ben admitted and Lucien looked at him in silence for a moment before nodding, “You don’t seem surprised.”
“I’m a reincarnating Grand Mage, who is supposedly the first magic-user in the existence of humanity and I had a miracle child with a hybrid of a vampire and werewolf.” Lucien remarked taking another drink, “Not much to be surprised about after all that.”
“There is actually something I wanted to talk about.” Ben said sitting up in his seat and Lucien looked at him with a raised eyebrow, “I know this is going to sound strange, but I believe that you’re not human at all and you’re a god.”
“So…an uncle of yours?” Lucien replied as he thought to himself.
“I can’t say for sure.” Ben told him, “It’s just…I sense something powerful in you…god-like powers.”
“My son told me that I died.” Lucien said with a shake of his head, “I assume that it isn’t easy to kill a god so would it stand that if I died, then I’m not a god?”
“I admit that it isn’t easy to kill a god, but it’s still feasible.” Ben admitted with a slow nod, “My father, Ken, feared the being revered as the Grand Mage…feared you, Mr. Mikaelson and I sense the same powerful presence in your son which makes me believe that he is a demigod like me.”
Lucien glanced at Ben for a moment before looking down in ponder as he wondered why the demigod believed that he sensed the same presence Lucien had, and only one explanation made any sense to him....he gave Asmund his powers when he died and that is why Asmund was as powerful as he was in the future, though his son had always had a close affinity to magic since a young age as he was born a few minutes before Hope thus being the firstborn witch of the Mikaelson bloodline after Freya.
“I need you to do something for me, Ben.” Lucien told the demigod who looked at him confused, “I know that my son will be doing everything in his power to make sure that I don’t die, however, my death needs to occur if Asmund’s path is going to keep true…I need you to watch over him and make sure that he doesn’t stop my death.”
“You’re asking me to make your son sit by and do nothing while his father is torn from him again.” Ben said with a heavy sigh.
“I understand that this isn’t easy for you to consider, but I believe that you’re the only one that could keep my son from doing something stupid like trying to change his destiny.” Lucien explained and Ben opened his mouth to argue, “I know that Asmund believes that he was sent here to possibly stop my death, but the real reason that he traveled back in time is to find a way to help Hope.”
“Which we have no idea how to do so.” Ben argued and Lucien looked at him gently, causing the demigod to raise his eyebrows as he realized that Lucien knew how to help his son, “You know what he should do, don’t you?”
“Yes.” Lucien said nodding as he got up, “I’m going to go talk to him now.”
He went over to the door and opened it, only to pause and turn his head back to Ben.
“I’d suggest getting your other friend before he does something stupid in my family’s villa.” he said meaning that he was talking about Ryan who was probably still downstairs unsupervised, “The vampires of this family don’t take kindly to those who snoop around.”
Ben nodded in understanding and Lucien smiled softly before heading to where Elijah and Asmund were still talking, knocking on the door as he took in a deep breath how he was going to tell his son that there was only one way that he could save Hope in the future, though the cost would be great.
“Klaus, can you get the others and meet me upstairs with Elijah and Asmund?” Lucien said quietly, knowing that Asmund’s other father would hear him and Lucien heard someone coming to the door to open it.
“Lucien.” Elijah said answering the door and Lucien looked behind the vampire to see Asmund sitting on the sofa with his eyes red as if he had been sobbing.
“I hope I am not intruding.” Lucien said and Elijah shook his head, “Good because I believe we should see what the others have possibly found.”
Asmund stared up in shock at his father and soon Klaus had joined them in the room with Freya, Davina, Rebekah, Ben, and Ryan who had begrudgingly joined them in the room with Freya and Davina looking frustrated making Asmund believe that they couldn’t find anything in the grimoires to save Hope.
“I’m sorry, Asmund.” Davina apologized, “Freya and I searched through all of the powerful grimoires that we had, but couldn’t find anything to help you bring Hope’s humanity back on.”
“There has to be something.” Klaus said angrily and Lucien shifted uncomfortably causing the hybrid to look at him, “Lucien?”
“There is only one way that I believe could work.” Lucien replied and everyone looked at him as Lucien looked at his son in determination, “Asmund has to die and become the Tribrid.”

Chapter 7: Anguish

Chapter Text

Asmund sat in the Mikaelson villa in disbelieve after being advised by his own father, Lucien, that the only way to save Hope and turn her humanity back on was for Asmund to become a Tribrid himself, thus allowing him to release his full potential at which he would be more than an equal to Hope since he was also the first born witch of the Mikaelson bloodline after Freya.
“You can’t be serious, Lucien.” Klaus said angrily, “Asmund isn’t ready to become the Tribrid and he shouldn’t have to be forced to die and be reborn in order to save his sister.”
“Klaus, there is no other way for him to save Hope and there was a reason that he was sent here.” Lucien explained, “It was for us to tell him that he has to become the Tribrid in order to save Hope from herself.”
“Lucien, I’m with Klaus on this one.” Elijah said with a flourish of his hand, “There has to be another way for Asmund to help Hope in the future.”
“Elijah, the grimoires didn’t show anything to help us.” Freya argued, “Lucien may have a point with Asmund becoming full Tribrid so he has the power that he needs.”
The Mikaelson siblings started arguing over whether Asmund should become the Tribrid or not and the young Mikaelson sat numbly as he contemplated what it would mean if he became the Tribrid and activated his vampire side, but he feared that his powers would grow too powerful and that he wouldn't be able to control them since he was a first born witch in the Mikaelson family just like his Aunt Freya and even she had to watch her own powers when she was younger. The young man looked around at his relatives numbly as their voices faded into silence while becoming aware of his own heartbeat echoing in his ears and his vision began to blur as he frantically tried to decide which choice to make when suddenly he felt someone's hand on him and turned to find Ben sitting beside him holding his hand as he looked at the young Mikaelson with a soft smile on his face. Ben nodded at him and seeing that the demigod remained by his side regardless of what the Tribrid chose, Asmund was allowed to breathe a small sigh of relief as he was thankful the demigod would stand by him no matter what he chose thus allowing Asmund to become resolved as he made a final determination on what he would choose.
“I’ll do it.” he said loudly causing his peers to look at him in shock, “Dad and Aunt Freya are right…I need to become the Tribrid in order to save Hope and that is what I am going to do.”
“Asmund…” Klaus started to say as tears came to his eyes, not wanting to think of his son being forced to make this choice when it wasn’t truly his choice as Hope forced the circumstance upon him, “You don’t have to do this.”
Asmund smiled softly at his father and got up, moving towards the hybrid, and pulling him in close for a tight hug as he embraced his father lovingly.
“It’s alright, Papa.” Asmund assured Klaus, “I’m going to be alright and I’ll get Hope back.”
He moved back from his father, looking at Klaus gently in the eyes with a soft smile, and he looked at Lucien and Freya with a deep sigh before looking at them with determination.
“How do we do this?” he asked them and Freya looked at Lucien with a nod.
“We can use spells to kill you, thus awakening your vampire side and then you will drink human blood to complete the transition.” Freya explained, “Davina, if you can help me prepare.”
“I would like some time with my son before you complete your preparations.” Klaus said and everyone nodded as they left the room so Klaus could talk to Asmund in private, “Asmund, you know that I never wanted this for you.”
“I know, Dad.” Asmund replied nodding at his father, “Even though it’s rushed, it is still my choice to become the full Tribrid and I am ready for it.”
“I’m assuming that I’m not around in the future.” Klaus said sadly and Asmund looked away, “Did I die doing something heroic?”
“You saved me and Hope, Dad.” Asmund told him, “I will admit…I hated you for making your choice, but I understand it because I would make that same choice if it came down to saving the people I love.”
“Speaking of which…” Klaus said with a sly smile, “What is the deal with you and your handsome friend?”
“Ben?” Asmund questioned shocked that his father would even think that he had something with the demigod, “I mean…nothing is going on.”
Klaus raised an eyebrow at Asmund as he grinned and Asmund chuckled before going over to the sofa and sitting down with one leg crossed over the other as he looked up at his father, who came over to him and sat beside him.
“I saved Ben from monsters and…I guess there is a connection of some kind, but I believe it’s more like he owes me for saving his life more than anything.” Asmund told his father, “I mean…he’s not bad looking, but I don’t have time right now to indulge in romance while Hope’s humanity is off.”
“You always have time to be yourself, Asmund.” Klaus said gently as he reached out and held his son’s face in his hand, “Don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise.”
Asmund nodded and a few hours later after the party ended and everyone went home, Asmund sat upon one of the beds in guest room and was holding his hands together, staring at the floor numbly as his aunt Freya knelt in front of him waiting for him to perhaps change his mind, and Asmund sighed deeply.
“Am I doing the right thing, Aunt Freya?” he asked her as his voice trembled and she looked at him lovingly, “Once I do this...I can’t go back, and what if I’m not strong enough to become the full Tribrid yet and control my powers.”
“My dearest nephew…” Freya said placing a hand on his cheeks, “You are the most powerful witch I have ever seen and you have amazing control over your powers already. You are a kind and good young man and unlocking your vampire side just heightens who you are already so I know that you will be able to control yourself as the full Tribrid.”
“Will you guys be here when I wake up?” Asmund questioned and she nodded letting him relax a little before laying on the bed as Freya came up beside him, “I’m ready.”
“We love you, Little One.” Freya said affectionately as she brushed a hand over his cheek, “Close your eyes.”
Asmund did as she said and closed his eyes while Freya started mutter spells under her breath, causing Asmund’s heart to slowly stop as he fell into death as if he was just falling asleep and soon Freya sat by his lifeless body, allowing his tribrid transition to start, when she heard a knock on the door and she turned to Klaus peaking his head inside.
“Has it started?” he asked her and she nodded while looking back at her nephew, “I shall stay with him, sister.”
“Klaus, this was the right thing to do.” Freya told him and he nodded slowly, “He should awake in a few hours and I’ll fetch some human blood to complete the transition.”
Freya got up and placed a hand on her brother’s shoulder for a moment before exiting the room and leaving Klaus to look upon his dead son in transition to become the Tribrid, wishing that his son hadn’t been forced by the circumstances that were making Asmund make the decision, and he sat down beside his son’s body.
“My dear son…” he said softly, “I am sorry that you have been forced to make a choice that wasn’t your choice to make at this time. I pray that when you return to the future…your aunts and uncles will be by your side to help you through your time as the Tribrid. I love you, Asmund.”
Klaus bent down towards his son, kissing him on the forehead gently, and he stayed by his son’s side for a few hours, however; Asmund still hadn’t woken up from his transition and Klaus was beginning to become worried that his son wouldn’t wake up as the Tribrid so he went out of the room and started heading down the hallway in search for Freya.
“Klaus!” Elijah called out from below and Klaus went over to the railing to see his brother standing in the courtyard with a look of fear on his face, “Hayley and Hope are in trouble.”
“Shit.” Klaus cursed as he looked back upon the room where his son laid upon the bed still to wake from his slumber and wondered what he should do when Lucien came up beside him.
“All of you go safe Hayley and Hope.” Lucien told Klaus softly as he knew what was to happen on this day, “I’ll watch over Asmund until he wakes.”
“Are you certain?” Klaus questioned in concern and Lucien smiled at him, “Very well…we shall be back soon.”
“I know you will.” the Grand Mage said, “Now go.”
Klaus took his siblings and left the villa to go help Hayley and Hope while Lucien stayed behind to watch over his son’s body, knowing full well that this was probably the night that Asmund was going to have to see his father die by a mysterious figure.
“I know you’re there, Ben.” Lucien said over his shoulder as he sensed the demigod in one of the rooms looking out at him, “It’s tonight that my fate awaits me.”
“We need to get you out of here, Lucien.” Ben argued as he stepped towards the Grand Mage who shook his head, “Asmund can’t stand to lose you.”
“This night must happen, Ben.” Lucien said, “In order for Asmund’s fate to continue on the right path, I must die and he must see it.”
“So someone will be coming after you tonight in the compound.” Ben remarked as he thought to himself while walking up to the railing and looking down into the courtyard, “Perhaps they will be entering soon since Hayley’s attack may be a diversion.”
“Perhaps…” Lucien muttered softly to himself as if he knew what was going to happen, “Can you go watch my son’s body? I’ll check the perimeter around the villa.”
With a nod, Ben left the Grand Mage’s side on the balcony and went into Asmund's room where he closed the door behind him, and sat on a chair beside the Tribrid's bed to watch him lie in slumber while wondering when Asmund would wake up and if he would be alright after transition.
“The Mikaelson’s sure knew how to throw a party.” Ryan said coming into the room with a plate of food that he had gathered downstairs and he was munching on some of the food before looking at Asmund’s body, “Is he dead?”
“He’s in transition.” Ben explained, “The others say that it could take a while for him to wake up from it.”
“Ah, the infamous transition stage.” Ryan said nodding slowly, “I’ve read that it varies from person to person.”
Ben nodded as his thoughts turned to Lucien, wondering what the Grand Mage was keeping from everyone, and Ryan continued to munch on his food while looking around the room in curiosity.
“Can I ask you something?” Ben asked Ryan and the former son of Malivore turned to him and nodded, “Why are you helping Asmund after hunting him before?”
Ryan’s chewing slowed down as he reflected upon the past, remembering when he had first started hunting Asmund against the Triad’s wishes as they believed that Hope was more dangerous than her brother, and he sighed as he walked over to a chair and sat down while putting his plate down on a side table before looking at the demigod.
“As I mentioned before, the Triad was after Hope to capture her.” Ryan told Ben and Ben nodded, “At first, I agreed with the Triad into going after her but when I saw Asmund and learned more about him, I figured that he was more dangerous than Hope since he was also the first born witch of the Mikaelson bloodline. Of course, Triad didn’t believe me so I went after Asmund on my own.”
Ben sat in silence as he listened to Ryan, finding out that the man had become obsessed with hunting Asmund in order to please his father only to fail when Hope had forced herself and Ryan into the Malivore pit, thus causing everyone to forget them for months.
“Before she forced me into the pit with her, Asmund and I had some…adventures and I grew to respect him as a person though I still had the urge to please my father.” Ryan explained as he looked at Asmund, still in transition, and smiled softly, “You can even say that I grew to admire him…he’s been through so much and yet he perseveres through all the pain and suffering.”
“Do you love him?” Ben questioned curiously and Ryan looked at him speechless, “It’s just that the way you’re talking about him…it’s like you do more than admire him.”
Ryan chuckled with a soft smile appearing on his face as he looked at Asmund with fondness in his eyes.
“Perhaps in another world, he and I could have been more.” Ryan admitted, “But that isn’t what is in the cards for us so although I do care for him deeply, I know that we’re not meant to be...though the possibility is nice to think about.”
Ryan looked at Asmund with a sad look in his eyes and he sighed as he stood up and stretched his joints while Ben looked up at him confused.
“Well, I am going to go look around.” Ryan told the demigod when suddenly a blast of wind blew around the room causing both men to shield themselves with their arms, “What the hell is that?”
“Stay here!” Ben shouted over the howling wind as he feared that Lucien was under attack and so he rushed out of the room as fast as he could while Ryan stood in the bedroom next to Asmund’s body.
“Damn that guy.” Ryan grunted as the wind started to worsen and he heard Asmund groaning as the young Tribrid started to awaken from his transition, “Asmund!”
“Ryan?” Asmund muttered confused and disoriented as he found himself laying on a bed with wind storming in the room, “What is going on?”
“Long story, but Ben believes that your father is being attacked.” Ryan said and Asmund’s eyes widened in horror as he quickly tried to get out of bed only to collapse on the ground with a groan, “Hold on, Asmund.”
Ryan rushed over to the young man’s side to help him up and Asmund leaned against the man as his senses were heightened beyond normal werewolf standards and he could hear Ryan’s heart beating in the man’s body as an insatiable hunger started to fill Asmund, making him feel parched.
“I…I need to complete my transition if I am going to help my father.” Asmund groaned as he turned away from Ryan to keep himself in check, “I think my family may have human blood stashed in blood bags somewhere in the villa.”
“Screw that.” Ryan argued as he knew that they didn’t have time to search for possible blood bags so he pulled up his shirt’s sleeve to show his arm’s veins, “Here, drink.”
“Ryan, no.” Asmund argued shaking his head, “If I drink from you, then there is no telling if I can control my urge from draining you dry.”
“Asmund, you don’t have time to argue.” Ryan told him as he took a knife from his pocket, cut his wrist to let blood flow free, and forced up his wrist to Asmund’s face, “Now, drink!”
Asmund looked at him for a moment before biting into Ryan’s wrist, sucking on the blood and quenching his thirst while Ryan winced in pain as he felt Asmund’s newborn fangs digging into his wrist.
“Asmund…” Ryan started to say as he began to feel woozy but Asmund didn’t stop drinking his blood as the Tribrid’s eyes turned yellow as dark veins appeared on his face, “Asmund!”
Asmund gasped as he let go of Ryan’s wrist and his face returned to normal as he felt satisfied and renewed, looking at Ryan to see that the man looking a little pale, and Asmund reached out towards him with concern.
“Are you okay?” Asmund asked and Ryan nodded slowly, “I’m sorry.”
“It’s alright.” Ryan answered, “Go save your father.”
Asmund nodded and vamped out of the room, finding himself downstairs with ease as a cloaked being stood in the middle of the villa’s courtyard and memories of his father’s death flashed through Asmund’s mind as he recognized this cloaked figure as the bastard that killed his father.
“You.” Asmund growled in rage as his eyes turned yellow as his anger rose to a peak and the figure didn’t say anything as it reached into its cloak and drew out a familiar glowing sword, “You’re not going to kill my father.”
The figure twirled its sword in anticipation of a fight and Asmund snarled at it before rushing at it with vampiric speed, only to miss, as the cloaked figure dodged his attack and kicked Asmund in the gut with inhuman strength, blasting the newborn Tribrid against a pillar and causing him to collapse to the ground in pain.
What the hell? Asmund thought to himself in shock as he weakly got up when suddenly he sensed magic being used and he looked up quickly to see the cloaked figure blasting red lightning at him.
Asmund’s eyes widened as he thrust out his right hand, blasting blue lightning right back at the cloaked figure, and both lightning spells collided with each other, crackling wildly as the lightning clashed causing both of them to struggle against each other. They continued to battle for a while, casting different spells at each other in equal until Asmund tsk’d in anger, his rage continuing to rise within him and he let out a yell as he sped towards the figure again with vampiric speed. He caught the figure off guard and reached out, grabbing the glowing sword from the mysterious figure as he twirled around and stabbed the sword through the stomach of his adversary. Silence filled the courtyard as Asmund’s breathing became labored as he felt relief in knowing that he had defeated his father’s killer and saved Lucien from certain death.
“I’m sorry, Asmund.” Lucien’s voice said in front of him and Asmund’s eyes widened in horror as his breath hitched while he slowly looked up in front of him to see that the cloaked figure had disappeared and his father stood in front of him with the sword piercing his stomach, “I had to do trick you, my son.”
“No…no, this isn’t happening.” Asmund replied shakily as tears filled his eyes, falling down his face.
Asmund stood there in complete shock as he couldn’t believe that his father had cast an illusion spell to make his son believe that he was battling his father’s killer when in reality, Asmund was his father’s killer all those years ago when he had witnessed his father’s death in front of his eyes.
“Why?” Asmund questioned sobbing as he stared at his father with anguish, “Why did you do this?”
“It was the only way.” Lucien told him as a small sad smile appeared on his face as Asmund’s father accepted his fate, “I know that this will hurt you, but it was the only way to ensure that you walked upon the path of your destiny.”
Lucien coughed up blood and Asmund quickly drew out the sword from his father’s stomach, catching his father from falling onto the ground as they knelt in front of each other.
“You will overcome this, Asmund.” Lucien said to his son with a warm smile, “Now that you’re the Tribrid…you can save your sister and restore her humanity.”
“No, there must be a way to heal you.” Asmund replied shaking his head as he refused to believe that he came back to the past only to become the Tribrid and kill his own father, “I can go get the others…they can heal you.”
“No time, Asmund.” Lucien argued as he clasped a hand on the young man’s shoulder, “I am so sorry that you had to be the one to kill me, but it was fate…now, you can return to your own timeline as I keep the illusion that you saw all those years ago when you entered the courtyard.”
Asmund was at a loss for words as Ben and Ryan came running up to them, stopping in horror at the scene before them as they couldn’t believe what they were witnessing and Lucien turned to them just as a portal appeared out of nowhere.
“You need to get him out of here.” Lucien ordered the demigod and former son of Malivore, “Get back to your time and save Hope.”
“No, I’m not leaving you.” Asmund said as he shook his head and refused to leave when suddenly Ryan came up to him and started dragging the Tribrid away, “No! Ryan, let me go.”
He started struggling in Ryan’s grip, grief overcoming him as he couldn’t fight back with his full strength, and Lucien raised a hand to twist his wrist causing Asmund’s neck to snap and render him unconscious so that Ben and Ryan could get him back to their timeline.
“Tell him that I love him.” Lucien told both men who nodded at him, “Good…I leave him in your hands.”
Ben and Ryan carried Asmund into the portal as they stepped through and found themselves outside of the Salvatore School in the middle of the night and they looked at each other as Asmund hung between both of them.
“What do we do now?” Ben asked Ryan who looked down at the unconscious Tribrid.
“Only thing we can do is wait to see what happens.” Ryan answered sadly, “Come on…we should get him inside.”
They carried him into the school’s courtyard where they met Asmund’s friends coming out of the school in worry as they saw the Tribrid being carried by Ben and Ryan.
“What happened?” Lizzie asked and Ryan looked at her.
“Long story…” he answered, “We shall explain after we get him in bed.”
“Follow me.” MG said to both men.
They all went inside the school and laid Asmund to rest in his room as they could only wait until he woke up to see what the future had in store for them while Ben and Ryan went to explain what had happened, unaware that their problems will only become worse as Asmund would wake up changed forever.

Chapter 8: Return

Chapter Text

Ben sat in a seat in the common room of the Salvatore School, joined by various members of the Super Squad who were also present, and they waited in silence as they anxiously waited for Asmund to wake up. Ben took the opportunity to recount the entire sequence of events that had transpired when he, Asmund, and Ryan were unexpectedly transported to the past through magic. In that time, Asmund had taken on the mantle of the full Tribrid, an endeavor aimed at halting Hope and rekindling her humanity.

“Is it normal for a vampire to be unconscious for this long?” Josie asked concerned as she looked at MG, who shook his head, “What should we do?”

“All we can do is wait.” MG answered with a heavy sigh and he looked at Ryan, who was eating some food even after having a big meal at the Mikaelson party earlier, “Though, I’m not sure letting him roam free is a good idea.”

“Hmm?” Ryan mumbled with his face stuffed with food as he looked up in confusion and Ben sighed while looking at MG.

“From what Asmund has told me about his past with Ryan, I share your concern.” the demigod said, “But Ryan helped me and Asmund get back to our time when Asmund refused to leave.”

MG nodded slowly as he realized that Ben had a point so he dropped the issue of letting Ryan free in the school and tried to focus on how to find Hope, who was probably trying to kill the other Triad leaders if Ryan’s information was true though they had no idea why she would be hunting the leaders down.

“I think we should get in touch with Asmund’s relatives.” Josie suggested, “I can get ahold of Freya or Davina.”

“Actually, try his uncle Elijah.” Ben told her, “I know from our journey to the past that Asmund is very close to the man, especially since both of his fathers are dead.”

After nodding, Josie left to get in touch with Asmund’s uncle while the others waited patiently for their friend to wake up, unaware that as Asmund lay in bed locked in endless dreams, visions of his father dying by his hand over and over in his dreams, causing him to twitch and moan while sweat fell down his forehead as the nightmares occurred over and over again.

I love you, son Lucien’s voice echoed in Asmund’s mind over and over as he watched his father bleed to death in his dreams.

Several days went by as Asmund stayed unconscious while his friends did their best to find out what Hope was after and Ben stayed by the new Tribrid’s side, sitting on a chair as he listened to Asmund moan in his sleep, making the demigod wondered what nightmares were plaguing the young man’s mind as he slept.

“I wish I could ease your suffering.” Ben said softly as he looked at the unconscious man beside him with a sad look on his face, “You don’t deserve this, Asmund.”

The demigod let out an apprehensive breath, moving closer to Asmund's bedside as his hand reached out and his fingers lightly brushed against the tribrid's cheek before a gentle knock sounded against the bedroom door causing the demigod to shift his attention as Cleo entered the room.

“What is it?” Ben asked as he hoped that she had news about how to break Asmund’s slumber, “Were you able to find a way to wake him?”

“Not quite.” she said with a soft smile on her face as she turned back towards the entrance of the room.

Ben’s eyes widened in astonishment as he witnessed Freya gracefully appearing in front of the room, her appearance subtly altered showing the weight of time in her features, and a soft exhale of relief escaped from the demigod as he hoped that she would hold the key to rousing Asmund from his tormenting nightmares. As the older Mikaelson looked around the room, her gaze landing upon the demigod beside her nephew’s bedside, a warm smile illuminated her face as she instantly recognized the young man.

“Well, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen you.” Freya said as she walked up to the demigod and gave him a gentle hug, “Though I assume for you, it hasn’t even been a week.”

“It’s a pleasure to see you again, Mrs. Mikaelson.” Ben replied respectfully and she held up a hand.

“Call me Freya.” the witch told him and she looked past him to see her nephew on the bed, “Now, let me see what my nephew has gotten himself into.”

She walked over to Asmund and knelt beside him, casting her magic over as she tried to figure out what was ailing him, and Cleo moved closer to her.

“Your brother, Elijah, will be here soon.” she informed Freya, who nodded in understanding.

“Yes, he notified me about Asmund’s predicament when Josie called him.” Freya said, “He has been overseas so he wanted me to arrive first to see what I can do for him.”

As she continued to examine her nephew with her magic, Freya’s brows furrowed in frustration as she couldn’t find out the case of Asmund’s ailment and she sighed in irritation while getting up and stopping her magic.

“I feel that something is ailing him, but can’t seem to find out exactly what’s wrong with him.” she said shaking her head, “It is like the problem is within himself.”

“Like his mind?” Cleo asked and Freya nodded in agreement, “Is there a way for you to go into his mind and see what it is?”

“I believe that I can help with that.” a familiar male voice said behind them and they turned to see Elijah standing there in a fancy suit as always and he smiled at his sister, “Freya.”

“Thank goodness, you’ve come.” Freya told him as she let out a sigh of relief, “My magic can’t seem to find out what is troubling Asmund.”

As Elijah reminisced about the fateful day when Asmund had arrived from the future; a sense of sadness washed over him as he approached his nephew with a heavy heart, descending to his knees to kneel beside the tribrid and he placed his hand gently upon Asmund's forehead. Elijah sought to establish a mental bond with his nephew in hopes of perceiving the source of his nephew’s state of mind and he closed his eyes, focusing his thoughts in hopes of merging his consciousness with Asmund’s, and he tilted his head slightly as he pushed past the mental barrier that obstructed his entry, only to be overwhelmed with agonizing grief. Visions of Asmund wielding a blade against Lucien flashed through Elijah's mind, accompanied by echoes of his nephew's anguished cries, and the weight of the agonizing visions overwhelmed the ancient vampire, causing him to sever his connection with the unconscious tribrid and collapse onto the floor, gasping for breath.

“Elijah.” Freya said with concern in her voice as she rushed up to her brother and helped him up, “What happened?”

“He’s trapped in an endless cycle of stabbing Lucien over and over again.” Elijah explained, “His agony is unbearable…the pain of it forced me out of his mind. It will be tricky reaching him…he needs an anchor to reality before he loses himself to his despair.”

“I shall prepare the ritual.” Freya said and she turned to Cleo, “I shall need your help gathering the ingredients.”

She turned to her brother to see that he was looking at Asmund with a worried look on his face and she instantly knew that Elijah must be beating himself up for not being there for their nephew when all of them neglected Hope and Asmund after the deaths of their parents instead of staying in touch with both of them. Freya had been busy with her wife, Keelin, taking care of their son, who was named after Niklaus, and Freya had also been occupied keeping the peace in New Orleans with her son’s donor father, Vincent.

“Elijah...” she started to say.

“I know.” Elijah said tensely and he turned to Ben, “I’m going to need your help, Ben.”

“Why me?” Ben asked in confusion.

“Asmund needs a connection to get back to reality.” Elijah explained, “And I know that you have a bond with my nephew, so I am hoping that you will be able to get him back.”

After Ben nodded in understanding; they laid Asmund's unconscious body between the demigods and Original vampire as Freya and Cleo made a ritual circle around them made out of salt as candles were lit on the border of the circle.

“Are you ready?” Freya asked Elijah, who nodded at her before looking at Ben to see that the demigod was looking at Asmund, “Let’s begin then…just know that if I sense anything going wrong, then I am pulling you both out immediately.”

Elijah and Ben took in a deep breath as they relaxed as much as they could, both of them holding each of Asmund’s hands in order to connect to him, and Freya began chanting some spells in Latin with Cleo joining her and the demigod could feel his consciousness being drawn out of his own body as if someone was pulling on it and he fell asleep alongside Elijah, both of them now connected to Asmund’s mind in hopes of finding him.

Upon waking up; Asmund gasped for breath as his ears started ringing and he tried to regain his bearings so he looked around to discover that he was lying on the ground in the Mikaelson Villa’s courtyard. Having no idea what had happened, he looked around in confusion as he wondered if he had ever made it back to the present timeline.

“Dad?” he called out for his father, Lucien, but he didn’t get any answer, “Hello?”

Asmund got up to his feet and quickly started running throughout the villa in hopes of finding his father, only to exhaust himself with no sign of anyone within the villa or surrounding area, and he came back down to the courtyard with his hands on his head in frustration.

“Damn it!” he shouted as he thrust his hand out at a chair nearby and blasted his magic at it, causing the chair to go flying against the wall and explode into small pieces.

A deep sense of guilt swept over Asmund's entire being as visions of Lucien being stabbed by him flashed through his mind, and the agony engulfed him as he fell on his knees, tears streaming down his face as his mind broke under the weight of his sorrow. Asmund screamed out in utter agony as he felt his mind begin shattering into pieces as the realization that he was the reason Lucien died weighed heavily upon him, causing his entire body to tremble as he continued to visualize his father’s death over and over again.

“I’m so sorry…” Asmund sobbed as he held his arms close to his chest, “I am so sorry, Dad.”

“Asmund Mikaelson.” a man’s voice said behind him and Asmund’s eyes opened in confusion as he turned around to see a man wearing dark-colored clothing with a silver-like brooch near the top of his collar.

The man had a grotesque appearance, with yellow to rotting teeth and translucent light blue eyes, bearing what a mark across his face, which hooked around his cheek and spanned up to his forehead and back down the opposite cheek. He had pale skin seeming to be rotted, and dark brown hair that slicked upwards.

“Who the hell are you?” Asmund questioned as he wiped tears from his eyes and backed up quickly.

“I am the Necromancer.” the grotesque-looking man said with a gleeful smile.

“Great…necromancy.” Asmund muttered in irritation as he sighed, “Listen, necromancer…I don’t have time for you.”

“Your sister was more of a listener than you.” the Necromancer told him and Asmund looked at him, “Oh yes, Hope Mikaelson is quite the character…she had a lot of pain and loss, but her pain doesn’t compare to yours.”

“You don’t know what I’m going through.” Asmund snarled angrily as he took a step towards the Necromancer, only for the man to step back with a chuckle.

“No need to be so hostile, boy.” the man replied with a smug look on his face, “I’m here to help you, Asmund.”

“Help how?” Asmund questioned suspiciously as he glared at the man in front of him while subtly preparing himself for battle if it should come to it.

“I can guide you into a peaceful death.” the Necromancer said, “No more of this torture. You can meet your father, Lucien, and spend forever with him.”

The thought of seeing his father again gave Asmund pause, as his only desire was to be with Lucien, and he closed his eyes as he envisioned his father appearing before him while a single silent tear fell down his cheek and the pain in his heart started to overwhelm him.

“You can leave all this pain behind, Asmund.” the Necromancer whispered as Asmund felt the man walk around him slowly, “You can be with both of your fathers if you allow me to help you go to peace.”

“Will it hurt?” Asmund asked as he opened his eyes and turned to the man behind him, who gave him a wicked grin.

“No more than how you felt when you died to become the Tribrid.” the Necromancer told him, “Shall I show you?”

With a whisper; the Necromancer cast a green spell in front of Asmund, causing a buff of green vapor to appear and the young man staggered as he saw his father standing before him with a smile on his face and holding his hand.

“Dad…” Asmund said.

Asmund ! Elijah’s voice shouted as if from a distance as Asmund’s eyes glazed over.

The Necromancer smiled wickedly as he watched Asmund’s arm begin to rot, his decaying skin reaching more of his body as the young tribrid continued to reach out to his father, and still standing in front of him with a smile. Asmund’s hand began to reach closer to his father’s outstretched hand when suddenly he felt a hand on his shoulder and he gasped in shock as he snapped out of his trance to look behind him and see Ben standing right behind him, glaring at the Necromancer with rage in his eyes.

“Ben?” Asmund said in shock as he wondered what the demigod was doing there, wherever there was, “What are you doing here?”

“Your Aunt Freya was able to send us into your mind as you’ve been unconscious since we came back from the past.” Ben explained as he moved in front of the Tribrid to protect him from the Necromancer.

Us ?” Asmund questioned as he tilted his head and he heard someone breathing behind him, his eyes widening in shock as he recognized the scent, “Elijah…”

He spun around, tears in his eyes, and gasped in shock as he saw his well-dressed uncle standing in front of him with a small smile on his face as he looked at his reborn nephew.

“Littlest Wolf, it’s been too long.” he said before looking past his nephew towards the Necromancer, “We should get you out of here.”

“He isn’t going anywhere with you two.” the Necromancer told the Original, “Your nephew is stuck in this realm because he wants to be here…he wants to be with his father, Lucien Hendeson who just so happened to have been your lover, Elijah Mikaelson. He says ‘hello’ by the way.”

“You leave him out of this.” Elijah snarled angrily at the mention of his former lover’s name coming from this ‘ monster’s ’ lips, “Come on, Asmund…come back to us.”

“But Papa…” Asmund stammered as he looked to see Lucien still standing near him, unable to be seen by Ben or Elijah, “I can be with him and leave this fucked up world behind.”

“Asmund, what about us?” his uncle asked him, “You have a whole family back in reality that needs you…Hope needs you.”

“I can’t stop Hope.” Asmund told Elijah as he shook his head in despair, “She’s too powerful and I’m nothing.”

“You are not nothing, Asmund Mikaelson.” Elijah said as he walked up to his nephew, taking the young man’s face into his hands and making him turn to look into his eyes, “You are the son of Lucien Henderson, the Grand Witch, and Niklaus Mikaelson, the first Hybrid of his kind and one of the Originals…you are one of the most powerful beings to exist and if anyone could turn Hope’s humanity back on, it’s you.”

Asmund shook his head, tired of being the one responsible for saving everyone at the expense of himself, and he looked to his father again only to see his other father, Klaus, standing beside Lucien’s side, both standing in front of him with a smile on their faces.

“Dad?” Asmund whispered in shock and Elijah turned to him with a look of confusion upon his face.

“Asmund, you see Niklaus?” he questioned and his nephew nodded slowly, “Listen to me, nephew…Lucien and Niklaus aren’t there…they sacrificed themselves to save you and Hope so don’t fall for this trick of the Necromancer.”

“They don’t have to be dead.” the Necromancer said slyly, feeding upon Asmund’s sorrow at the deaths of both his fathers, “I have the power to raise them.”

“Asmund.” Ben said calmly as he walked up to the Tribrid and moved in front of him to block out the young man’s deceased fathers, “I know that you’re in pain…I can feel it radiating off of you and I know that you just want to disappear and end it all, but you are stronger than you believe. If anyone could push past this cruel world, then it is you.”

“I don’t know how much longer I can keep going, Ben.” the Tribrid replied as tears started falling and he shook his head, grief starting to overcome him, “It feels like I am just drowning and unable to catch a break…I can’t keep doing this. I miss them dearly.”

“I understand that it is hard for you right now, but you can get through this.” the demigod told Asmund, “You’ve faced tough times growing up and always came out on the other side. You are the son of Niklaus Mikaelson, the first hybrid of his time, and Lucien Henderson, the Grand Mage…you possess both of their spirits and the power of the Grand Mage flows through your veins. “

“How can I possibly help my sister when I can’t even help myself?” Asmund asked as he clasped his head and felt like he was about to break.

Feeling overwhelmed as despair overcame him; Asmund began to cry uncontrollably and his mind broke, causing him to let out an agonizing scream, and his magical power started blasting from him, thus blasting back the Necromancer and his uncle while Ben braced himself against the magical storm to remain close to Asmund. In the midst of Asmund's magic trying to blast him back; the demigod began to skid back across the Tribrid's mindscape when suddenly he felt something bracing behind him and Ben turned his head towards his left to see Lucien standing behind him with a golden aura surrounding the Grand Witch.

“Lucien.” Ben said in shock and the man looked at him with a simple nod.

Save my son, Prometheus Lucien told him as the demigod felt a rush of power flow within him just as the Grand Witch pushed him forward.

Ben charged towards his friend, concentrating on unleashing the gift bestowed upon him by the Grand Witch, and as he reached Asmund, he clasped the Tribrid's shoulder and relinquished Lucien's power in the process thus causing a soothing light to glow from Ben. Asmund gasped slightly as his father’s soothing power reached him and began to dissolve all his anxieties and worry, thus making the Tribrid begin to feel peace within himself for the first time since killing his father.

“Asmund?” Ben said slowly as he wondered if the Tribrid was alright just as Asmund’s powers vanished, “Are you okay?”

“Yeah.” Asmund replied and he looked up at the demigod, “For the first time since I killed my father, I feel a sense of peace within me.”

“No!” the Necromancer shouted in anger causing the Tribrid and demigod to turn towards him, “You were supposed to fall to despair, damnit.”

“You have no power here anymore, Necromancer.” Asmund growled as his eyes glowed golden as he summoned his magic and thrust his hand toward the monster.

As the Necromancer cried out in agony; Asmund forced him out of his mind, causing the Necromancer to vanish right before their eyes and the Tribrid was able to breathe before turning to his uncle. Elijah was about to say something to his nephew, only for him and Ben to disappear before Asmund’s eyes, making him smile softly as he knew that they had gone back to reality, and he prepared to wake up only to halt as he sensed someone behind him so he turned around to see Lucien and Klaus standing behind him with glowing aura surrounding them as they smiled at him before vanishing, signifying that they were moving onto peace.

“Thank you, Dad…Papa.” Asmund said softly as a single tear fell from his eyes.

Suddenly he gasped for breath as he found himself waking up and looking at the ceiling of his room within the Salvator school, realizing that Ben and Ryan must have taken him back the school while he was unconscious.

“Asmund!” Freya said seeing her nephew waking up and the young man groaned as he held a hand up to his head, feeling a headache coming on, “Oh thank heavens, you’re okay.”

Asmund sat up, looking around to see that his uncle and Ben were still gathering their senses together after magically entering Asmund’s mind, and he saw his aunt and Cleo looking towards him worriedly.

“Thanks to Uncle Elijah and Ben, I’m alright.” he assured the ladies as Ben helped him up, “I’m sorry to have worried you all.”

“I knew that you’d snap out of it.” Ryan said from behind him and Asmund smirked slightly as he turned towards the son of Malivore to see that he was eating food as if he wasn’t bothered, “You’re too tough to not awaken so shall we go snap your sister out of her mood?”

“I am still uncertain that I’d be able to force my sister to snap her humanity back on.” Asmund told everyone as his smile faded and he crossed his arms, “It’s true that I am now a Tribrid and as the firstborn, I have more magic within me but she has always been able to control her magic while I always had trouble.”

“I may have a way around that.” Freya said and he turned to her with a confused look as she reached into a bag of hers and brought out a Sapphire pendant, “This is a very powerful artifact that your father, Lucien, had me hold onto many years ago.”

Asmund looked at the pendant with widened eyes as flashes of memories rushed through his mind, remembering his father using the pendant as a conduit for his magic and allowing Asmund to use it for his training.

“Father’s pendant.” he whispered as a single tear fell down his face and he reached to take it out of his aunt’s hand before looking at it fondly, “I remember when he allowed me to use this so that I could try and control my abilities.”

“I always believed that your father knew that you would need this in the future.” Freya told him, “This should help you control your abilities so that you can bring Hope’s humanity back.”

“Right…” Asmund said slowly as he put on the pendant, feeling the pendant store part of his abilities so that he could master them when he was ready, “Thank you, Aunt Freya.”

“Always, Littlest One.” his aunt replied fondly as she walked up to him and brushed a soft hand against his cheek before seeing her nephew’s eyes glance towards Ben, “The others and I shall go see if the school is alright. Caroline will be returning soon since Alaric is still rendered unconscious.”

“Josie and Lizzie would be grateful for any assistance that you’d be able to see what you can do to wake their father up.” Asmund told her and she nodded before leaving the room with Elijah and Cleo.

Asmund’s unwavering gaze remained fixed on Ben, even as the others departed the room, and a sense of tranquility washed over him as his eyes rested upon the demigod. It was undeniable that something profound had shifted within him since their encounter, a transformation that had eluded him amidst the chaos that had consumed his life since his awakening from the magical coma.

“Ben, I owe you my gratitude.” Asmund began, his steps drawing him closer to his friend, “If it weren't for you, I would have fallen victim to the Necromancer's deception and I owe a debt I can never fully repay."

"There's no need for thanks, Asmund.” Ben responded gently, his gaze unwavering as he met the young tribrid's eyes, “This world needs you, and all I did was what I felt was right."

“You underestimate yourself, Prometheus.” Asmund said, his voice softening as he used Ben's true name and a sense of nervousness churned in his stomach as he continued, “I've been trying to make sense of my life since waking from my coma as I’ve been thrust into endless chaos since I woke up, which, given my family's history, shouldn't come as a surprise to me anymore. Chaos has always been a part of my life; I grew up with it and now it seems to be my destiny since I am to save the school and my sister from herself."

Ben remained silent, offering Asmund the space to share his thoughts and the young Mikaelson walked over to the window, his eyes fixed on the full moon in the sky while Ben stood his in his spot.

“I always had the belief that my birth was a mistake.”  Asmund confessed with a heavy heart, “Honestly, I was never as gifted as Hope as I couldn't control my abilities like she could. And now, knowing the truth about my father's death, I can't forgive myself for what I've done. I just want to give up.”

“Asmund…” Ben started to say, but he fell silent when he noticed a single tear tracing a path down Asmund's cheek.

“I don’t know how I can move on from this revelation, Ben.” Asmund continued, his voice laced with pain, “I killed my father...how does one find a way forward from that?”

“You don't, Asmund.” Ben replied softly, closing the distance between them as the young man turned to face him, his anguish evident, “No one should expect you to simply move on from such a profound pain. What they should expect, however, is to stand by your side, no matter what.”

“Ben.” Asmund began to say.

“I can see the pain you’re enduring,” the demigod said empathetically, “No one should have to bear the weight of your suffering and be expected to save everyone else. You need someone in your corner, someone to help you stay grounded in yourself. If you’ll allow me, I want to be that someone for you.”

Asmund looked at the demigod in shock as he couldn’t believe that Ben was offering to be someone that the young tribrid could lean on in times of need and the young man blinked as he realized that Ben wasn’t offering to be just someone for Asmund, but was willing to be there completely for the young man with no expectations of getting anything in return like most of his friends in the school would seem to just use him.

“Ben, are you…” he started to say but fell silent as he didn’t want to jinx the possibility of finding someone whom he could confide him and be himself with without having the expectation of that person wanting something in return, “I can’t promise you that I will be able to offer you peaceful times as chaos is just drawn to me.”

“I had a millennium of chaotic life, Asmund.” Ben chuckled with a wry grin on his face, “I am not expecting rainbow and roses…I want to be with you for you , nothing else is expected.”

Asmund’s jaw slacked slightly as he couldn’t believe what he was hearing and his eyes darted toward the demigod’s lips as the urge to rush up to the man flooded the tribrid, but part of him hesitated as he didn’t believe that he was worthy of such peace with the world in danger from his sister.

“You’re hesitating…” Ben said tilting his head slightly, “What worries you so?”

“I don’t believe that I’m worthy of peace when there is so much going on.” Asmund replied with a heavy sigh, “I just don’t want you to wait for me.”

You’re worth waiting for, Asmund.” Ben told him with a soft smile and the Tribrid looked at him in shock as the demigod held the young man’s cheek with his hand.

Asmund felt his heart skip a beat, the warmth of the demigod’s touch sending shivers down his spine as he yearned to kiss Ben, and yet, the danger of his sister ruining the school weighed heavily on his mind.

“My sister poses a great threat, Ben.” he started to say when Ben held a finger to the man’s lips.

“We will tackle that together.” the demigod said with a tilt of his head, “You’re not alone in this ordeal, Asmund.”

“But for you to wait for me.” Asmund argued with a shake of his head as he pulled away from the demigod, only for Ben to grab his hand.

“Please, Asmund.” he begged, “Just let me be there for you.”

The Tribrid looked up into the demigod’s eyes, his eyes flickering up and down Ben’s face as he felt the urge to kiss him, and he was about to lean in to kiss him when he sensed a dark presence coming close to the school, causing him to look away and Ben looked at him with a concerned look upon his face.

“What is wrong?” the demigod asked him.

Asmund slanted his eyes for a moment before realizing the presence that he was feeling and he looked back at the demigod with fear in his eyes.

“Hope is coming.” he told him.

“I’m already here, brother.” Hope said appearing in the doorway with a smirk on her face, “And I need your help.”

Asmund stood firmly in the room, his gaze fixed on his sister, Hope, while Ben lingered just behind him. The mind of the Grand Witch's son teemed with questions, trying to understand why Hope had suddenly returned to the school.

“Why are you here, Hope?” Asmund's voice held a hint of suspicion as he glanced past her to the door, hoping that either Freya or Elijah might hear their conversation.

“The moment I entered, I erected a sound barrier.” Hope said as she caught the fleeting look in his eyes, “So Aunt Freya and Uncle Elijah can't hear us so don’t even think about trying to shatter it because one wrong move, Asmund, and your friend behind you won’t live to see another day.”

A growl rose within Asmund as his wolf instincts took over, his eyes shimmering a bright yellow hue as a fierce snarl escaped his lips and this action only seemed to amuse Hope further, her smirk widening as her attention shifted between Asmund and Ben and a look of realization dawned on her face.

“How intriguing.” she mused, eyeing Ben with a hint of curiosity, “Seems you have a soft spot for the new guy, Asmund. A change, considering you've never truly cared for anyone before.”

“Enough, Hope.”  Asmund snapped, his patience waning, “What do you want?”

"I'm in a bit of a predicament," Hope began, moving closer to Asmund, prompting him to tense up, “Do you recall the tales of Aurora De Martel from father? She's the mastermind behind Traid, and now she's gunning for me.”

A memory surfaced in Asmund’s mind as he started remembering the stories Klaus had shared about Aurora and her ill-fated brother, Tristan, who died by Elijah’s hand.

“What did you do to make her so vengeful?” he asked his sister

“It seems my mere existence irks her.” Hope retorted as her arms crossed in defiance, “She blames our father for her suffering.”

“Why should I be concerned about your feud?” Asmund questioned, discreetly channeling his powers, trying to draw out the magic from the room to dispel the barrier.

“You’re going to help me eliminate her.” Hope said as her eyes bore into his, determination evident. “I won’t let an ancient vampire jeopardize my life over some personal vendetta."

“Turn on your humanity and I’ll help you.” Asmund replied hoping to be able to convince her to switch her humanity back on in return for his help against Aurora.

Hope chuckled darkly for a moment as she shook her head and then looked at Asmund in silence for a moment before vanishing in front of his eyes, causing her brother to spin around only to see that she had Ben in her clutches against the wall as the demigod groaned in pain.

“Didn’t I tell you not to make a move, brother?” Hope questioned angrily and Asmund’s eyes widened in fear, “Did you really believe that I wouldn’t be able to sense you trying to siphon the magic from my barrier?”

“Hope, please don’t.” Asmund begged as he started to step towards her, only to cause Hope to tighten her grip around Ben’s throat and he stopped in his tracks, “Let him go and I’ll help you.”

“How about this…” Hope said smacking her lips loudly as she thought for a moment, “I’ll let your little friend go if you bite him and turn off your humanity in the process.”

“Asmund, don’t…” Ben groaned and Hope clenched her hand around his throat, causing the demigod to choke on his words.

Asmund stood in place as he was tormented by the fact that if he didn’t bite Ben and turn off his humanity, then Hope would kill him in an instant in front of her brother, and Hope could see the fear within her brother’s eyes.

“You know, Asmund, sometimes it is easier to not feel anything.” she told him, “To be free of all those annoying emotions that come with humanity.”

“Hope, if there there is any humanity left in you then you wouldn’t force your brother to do this.” Ben insisted.

“This isn’t about what I want , newbie.” Hope told him, “This is about what is necessary .”

Hope turned towards her brother, her gaze cold and unyielding, and she threw the demigod onto the ground in front of Asmund, who wanted to rush towards Ben but knew that Hope would strike before he could do anything.

“What are you waiting for, Asmund?” Hope asked with an irritated scoff, “Bite him.”

Tears begin to fall down Asmund’s cheeks as he slowly approaches the demigod, his fangs descending as he prepares to bite his friend, and Ben swallows deeply as he braces himself for Asmund’s fangs.

Asmund Lucien’s voice rings through the Tribrid’s mind, but he pays it no heed as he knows that if he doesn’t do as his sister says then she will surely take matters into her own hands.

“I’m so sorry.” Asmund told the demigod as he kneeled in front of Ben and held his neck firmly.

“By your side, no matter what happens.” Ben said earnestly.

Asmund meets the gaze of his sister, who stands with an impatient expectation for him to bite the demigod’s neck, and with a frustrated grunt, the young Tribrid quickly sinks his teeth into his friend's neck. Ben cries out in pain as the venom courses through his veins as Asmund becomes overwhelmed by a growing thirst and can't help but drink deeply from Ben, much to the wicked satisfaction of his sister.

“Asmund…” Ben said weakly as he felt his life ebbing away from being drained.

Asmund continued to drink from Ben, unaware that he was killing the demigod as all he could think of was the sweet taste of blood flowing from Ben’s neck, and soon the Tribrid’s thirst was quenched as he withdrew his fangs from the demigod, and let out a relieved gasp before realizing what he had done.

“Ben?” he questioned as he looked down at his friend lying on the ground lifeless in front of him and began to shake the dead demigod fervently, “Ben, come on…don’t do this to me. Please…please wake up!”

Asmund began to shake uncontrollably as the reality of killing his friend engulfed him with absolute despair, and he let out an agonizing cry of grief as his psyche began to split amid the overwhelming agony.

“I didn’t think you’d have it in you, Asmund.” Hope said with an amused smirk on her face as he glared up at her with rage in his eyes, “Oh don’t look at me like that, you know that this was the right decision…otherwise, I would have killed your friend. Now if you don’t want to deal with the pain, then all you have to do is turn off your humanity.”

Asmund cries as he looks back down at Ben’s body and Hope sighed in frustration before beginning to walk by him and she stopped in the doorway, looking over her shoulder as she slants her eyes at him.

“I’ll be waiting for you outside when you come to your true self.” she told him, “Don’t leave me waiting.”

Hope left the room, leaving the spell she had erected on the room intact as Asmund became overwhelmed by remorse, and tears coursed down the Tribrid’s cheeks as he cradled Ben in his arms and let out an anguished scream causing his magic to blast throughout the room uncontrollably. As his uncontrolled magic surged through the room, wreaking havoc inside the space, Asmund is forced to visualize the internal switch to his humanity as visions of everyone he loved flashed through his mind as their deaths replayed in his mind with Ben being the latest loved victim to fall to the cold embrace of death by his hand just like his father, Lucien. Asmund reached out toward the internal switch, one last painful memory of Ben flashing through his mind.

You’re worth waiting for, Asmund Ben’s voice echoed in Asmund’s mind, giving the final push over the edge as the Tribrid flipped his humanity off.

Almost instantly; the tears ceased flowing down his face as his turbulent magic stabilized and Asmund’s features, once contorted in anguish, became cold and detached before he placed the demigod’s body on the ground and all of his emotions receded into a silent void. Asmund rose to his feet calmly and brushed the dirt off his pants before leaving the room and making his way downstairs to find Hope.

“Asmund?” Elijah said appearing behind him as the Tribrid reached the front doors, “Where are you going?”

“I’m just going out, Uncle.” Asmund replied in a flat tone and Elijah sped towards his nephew as he sensed something wrong with the young man.

“Littlest Wolf, what is going on?” the Original asked as he stood behind his nephew.

“God, you’re annoying.” Asmund said wih an irritated sigh as he turned toward his uncle with a void expression and he held his hand up, “Ventus.”

Elijah groaned as he was blasted back by Asmund’s magic and crashed across the room into the gathering room while his nephew walked out of the school where his sister was waiting in the front yard.

“About time.” she said as Asmund started walking up to her and she smirked as she turned to him, only to be taken back when her brother blasted her with electricity causing her to fly into the air across the yard where she landed on her back.

“Did you really think by turning off my humanity that I’d join you?” Asmund scoffed as he moved past her, “Later sister.”

Asmund continued on his way towards the school’s locked gate and blasted it open with his powerful magic before continuing his way off the school’s ground toward Mystic Falls, his thirst for blood and death beginning to quench him while his sister gazed after him with an exasperated sigh.

“Shit, he’s going to be a problem.” she said as she got up off the ground and turned back toward the school as she realized that she was going to have to enlist the school’s help in order to control her brother, “This is going to be annoying.”

Chapter 9: No Humanity

Chapter Text

Freya stood in Alaric’s study at the Salvatore School, staring down upon Ben’s lifeless body, which she had found in Asmund’s room. She had Cleo and Jed carry to the headmaster’s office, and she stared in shock as she couldn’t believe that the demigod was dead, but Jed had told her that since he was Prometheus then he should eventually wake up.

Freya ! Elijah’s voice called out, echoing throughout the school, and she rushed out of the room to find her brother stumbling into the hallway looking disheveled.

“Elijah, what happened?” she asked in shock.

“It’s Asmund…” Elijah told her with a shake of his head, “His humanity is off.”

Freya stumbled back in shock, her mind wheeling in horror as she let out a shaky breath, and everything became clear to her as she realized that something must have forced Asmund to witness Ben’s death thus causing her nephew to turn off his humanity and she walked back into Alaric’s office as Elijah followed her.

“Someone must have made him witness this.” Freya said as she turned, causing Elijah to see Ben laying there on the couch lifeless with two fang holes in his neck as his blood had been drained by a vampire.

“Damn it.” Elijah replied as he walked up to the demigod's body and bent down next to Ben’s body, “Is he going to be alright?”

Who cares ? Hope’s voice said from behind them and they turned to see their niece standing there, “If he’s dead, then he’s dead…just saying.”

“Hope…” Elijah said with a scoff, “I should have known that it was you that killed Ben.”

“Oh, I didn’t kill the new guy.” Hope replied with a chuckle, “That was all Asmund s doing.”

“I don’t believe that.” Freya said, narrowing her eyes in anger, “You must have forced him to kill Ben.”

“Details, details.” Hope replied as she shrugged dismissively, “Look, I may have made a mistake in making Asmund turn off his humanity. I was planning on him joining me in taking down a thorn in my side, but I didn’t expect him to go off on his own.”

“Why force your brother into turning off his humanity?” Jed asked, confused.

“I’m certain that my aunt and uncle will remember this…” Hope started to say with a sigh, “But I had run into Aurora De Martel and she’s trying to kill me.”

“Aurora is still around?” Elijah questioned in shock as he hadn’t expected to hear news about his brother’s ex-girlfriend, “If you had wanted Aurora dead, then I could have killed her.”

“Yeah, but where’s the fun in that.” Hope chuckled as she grinned wickedly, “It was more fun turning my half brother’s humanity off, but as I said…I didn’t expect him to not join me.”

“Where do you think he’d go?” Freya asked her brother as she turned to look at him and he shook his head.

“Honestly…he could go anywhere if his humanity was off.” Elijah answered with a heavy sigh before looking at Hope, “You really screwed up, Hope…are you really that far gone?”

“Look, I don’t care about your opinions.” Hope told her uncle and aunt with a scoff of disdain, “I just need Asmund to help me kill Aurora.”

“I have another person in mind to get rid of Aurora De Martel.” Elijah said, “You get Asmund back here.”

“Yeah...you don’t tell me what to do, Uncle.” Hope scoffed as she shook her head.

“Somnus ( Sleep) .” Cleo said, reaching out her hand to Hope and the Tribrid instantly fell unconscious much to Elijah and Freya’s surprise as they turned to the young girl, “Asmund had prepared this spell a little while back after he found out about Hope’s humanity being turned off...it will buy us a small amount of time hopefully.”

“Seems like I’ve missed a lot.” a familiar voice said behind them and they turned to see Alaric standing there leaning on a cane while his daughters held him up, “Would someone mind explaining to me what has happened?”

“I shall get my niece to the cells below.” Elijah said as he turned to Freya, “Perhaps you and Cleo could explain to Alaric what has transpired. Josie and Lizzie, perhaps you can help me try to seal my niece within the cell?”

“Of course.” Josie said nodding

Freya nodded and she proceeded to tell the headmaster what had transpired since Alaric had entered his coma with the help of Cleo filling in any details left out while Elijah took his niece to the cell below and locked her in as Josie and Lizzie used their siphon ability to use Elijah as an anchor for their powers to put several lock spells on the cell in hopes to prevent their friend from breaking out.

“I appreciate your help, girls.” Elijah told them as he smiled softly, “Maybe if my siblings and I paid more attention to Asmund and Hope, then this may have not happened.”

“It isn’t your fault, Mr. Mikaelson.” Josie said as she shook her head, “But as their friends; we should have seen this coming. Asmund was hurting, sacrificing his own happiness to ensure this school was safe, and none of us even asked if he was alright. Right when he came out of his spell coma, Lizzie and I begged him to help us with our father without even asking how he was feeling and that was selfish of us.”

“We are going to do our best to bring him back.” Lizzie promised, “We owe him that much so we’re going to get ahold of someone that might be able to help us…she and Asmund’s father, Lucien, were best friends of course.”

“You mean…” Elijah said in shock and both girls nodded with smiles on their faces, “It is true that she may be able to help, but she went into hiding for her own safety.”

“True, but these are desperate times.” Lizzie replied, “Our mother has been in touch with her all these years so she can reach out.”

Elijah let out a small sigh as he was conflicted about bringing in an old friend into their mess again, but he knew that the girls were right that she may be their only hope in getting Asmund to turn his humanity back on.

“Alright.” he said in resignation, “If Caroline has a way to contact our friend, then see if she can reach out as soon as possible.”

Josie and Lizzie nodded as they all left the cells and went back upstairs to find Jed, MG, Finch, Ethan, Kaleb, Wade, Cleo, gathered together in the conference room trying to decide what to do.

“How the hell are we going to get Asmund’s humanity back?” Finch, a young werewolf and Josie’s girlfriend, asked, “He was the cornerstone of the school and now he’s gone off the deep end.”

“We will get him back.” MG said in determination, “No matter what the cost.”

“You guys should leave it to us adults.” Elijah told the kids, “A first born Mikaelson Tribrid is no small feat to deal with…if you guys believed that Hope was dangerous, well you have no idea what Asmund’s true capabilities are and that was before he became the Tribrid .”

“No offense, Mr. Mikaelson…” Jed started to say and Elijah looked at him, “But you and the adults had their chance to help Asmund and Hope before now and none of you did so we are going to do something to save him…again, no offense.”

“No, you’re right.” Elijah said shamefully, “When Lucien and Niklaus died…we were in our own grief and we neglected our niece and nephew when we should have been there for them so if you, his friends, are the key to bringing back his humanity then we shall do everything to bring him back.”

“I shall join you.” Ben said as he entered the room, “I promised Asmund that I’ll be by his side no matter what happens even with his humanity off.”

“Very well.” Elijah said with a sigh, “Seems like we should come up with some plans…Freya and I shall get in touch with our siblings to see if they can make it down here quickly.”

He looked at Ben, who seemed to be preoccupied with his own thoughts, and the vampire realized that the demigod must be blaming himself for Asmund’s downfall and he walked up to the man as the others went to make plans with each other.

“Ben, can we talk?” he asked the demigod, who nodded at him.

Both men walked outside of the school into the front yard as several of the other students went about their day.

“Are you alright?” Elijah asked the demigod, who took in a deep breath, “Being killed by Asmund must have been a shock.”

“Hope would have killed me anyways.” Ben answered, “I just hate that it caused Asmund to turn off his humanity.”

“I can’t imagine what you’re feeling.” Elijah said with a heavy sigh, “I assume that you care deeply for my nephew?”

“I love him. Mr. Mikaelson.” Ben admitted and Elijah smiled softly, “I know that he and I are still getting to know each other, but there is just something that…”

“That draws out the good in everyone?” Elijah said and Ben nodded, “Yeah, Asmund has been that way since he was young and your love for him may be the key to returning him to his humanity so let’s come up with a plan.”

Meanwhile in a fancy mansion; Aurora De Martel, a vampire with long red hair and green eyes stood in a mansion belonging to the Triad which she had founded in order to hunt down Hope and other supernatural beings to feed Malivore, and she sipped a glass of wine while staring into a fireplace as her mind wandered to try and think up a plan to defeat Hope.

“Damn that girl.” Aurora muttered to herself in frustration as she scowled, “Foiling my plans at every turn.”

Doesn’t seem that you’re trying hard enough, Aurora De Martel a male voice echoed in the room and she looked around in confusion, Hope Mikaelson is very cunning and relentless, such is the daughter of Niklaus Mikaelson, the Original Hybrid

“Who is there?” Aurora questioned on edge as she looked around.

“Oh Aurora…” the male voice said behind her and she spun around to see Asmund standing there, “I believe you might recognize me…I am my father’s son after all.”

“You’re Asmund Mikaelson…” Aurora said in shock as she realized who was standing in front of her, “Klaus’ and Lucien’s son. How did you get in here? My guards…”

“They were no match for me, Aurora De Martel.” Asmund replied with a dark chuckle as he looked around the room, “Seems like you got on my half sister’s bad side by going after her.”

“Are you here to kill me on her behalf?” Aurora questioned on edge and he stopped to look at her with a blank gaze.

“My sister made me turn off my humanity by having me hurt the man I loved.” he told the older vampire, “She isn’t quite on my nice list right now, so no…I am not here to kill you, Aurora. In fact, I am here to help you defeat her.”

“I don’t believe you.” Aurora argued and Asmund sighed as he sat down on a chair at the table within the room.

“We could just wait for my sister to show up.” he told her, “And trust me…Hope will show up sooner or later. Or you and I can go find a secret weapon to end her.”

“What weapon?” Aurora questioned curiously.

“Well, the man that I loved is a demigod.” Asmund told her, “He told me about his father, an actual god that still exists and I am certain that this god can end my sister since there isn’t any other weapon to defeat her.”

“And where do we find this god ?” Aurora asked him and Asmund let out a sigh, “You don’t know do you?”

“I didn’t say that the plan was perfect.” the Tribrid remarked, “But it’s something .”

“Fine…I shall have my men search around for any lore about these gods so that we can find a way to find your ex-lover’s father.” Aurora said and Asmund got out of his seat, “What will you be doing?”

“That is my business.” Asmund replied as he smirked at the older vampire, “Now, I shall be back later so be sure to have some news for me.”

Asmund left the room, walking through the hall as he went to find a secluded room to meditate, and he sat on the floor to clear his mind of any thoughts plaguing him, causing his mind to wander as he found himself drawn back to the Salvatore school where he found himself standing in the hallways in astral form.

What the hell am I doing back here ? Asmund thought to himself as he cursed himself for being so weak that he’d even find himself back in his formal home with his so-called friends.

“Asmund?” a familiar voice said behind him and Asmund groaned as he turned to see Wade standing behind him, “Oh my god, you’re back.”

“Wade, I am not back.” the Tribrid told him as he raised his hand, “ Somnus .”

Wade groaned as his eyes rolled back and he crumpled to the floor unconscious as Asmund walked down through the halls, wondering why his subconscious forced him back to the school, and he heard voices below in the meeting room.

We need to try and locate Asmund the young man heard Jed say, Lizzie, can you and Josie try to locate him ?

We can try, but can’t promise anything Lizzie told Jed, Come on, Josie…let’s see if we can find anything to save Asmund

Asmund scoffed as he couldn’t believe how delusional his friends were, trying to spend their energies to try and save the Tribrid from himself, and he tilted his head as he sensed his uncle and aunt.

Elijah, I worry for Asmund the Tribrid heard his aunt Freya say from Alaric’s quarters, It’s bad enough that Hope has no humanity, but for her to force her own brother to turn off his own ? Who knows what he will do

My daughters will find him Alaric’s voice echoed to Asmund’s ears as he was slightly relieved that the headmaster had regained himself from Limbo, Hopefully, we can keep Hope contained for the time being until we can figure out how to help her or Asmund

Asmund scoffed in amusement as he couldn’t believe how naive his former friends and relatives were trying to redeem him and he turned to release his astral form when he stopped as he saw Ben standing in front of him as the demigod had a look of shock on his face

“Asmund?” Ben questioned as he stepped towards the Tribrid, “You’re back.”

“Ben…” Asmund said as a fleeting moment of relief flooded through his whole body and mind as he was glad that the demigod was alive and well after the Tribrid had been forced to kill him, “You’re alive.”

“That is my curse .” Ben told him as he walked up to the Tribrid, “Asmund, you can come back here…regain your humanity and save the school from your sister.”

“Don’t try to save me, Prometheus.” Asmund replied with a scoff as he pushed his feelings down, “I have no humanity and I shall do what I please, even if that means waging war against the school if they decide to come after me.”

“Asmund…” the demigod said as he walked up to Asmund, trying to place a hand on the Tribrid’s face, only for his hand to go through Asmund’s astral form, “I…”

“Save it, Prometheus.” Asmund said as he backed up, “Nothing you can say or do can make me change my mind.”

Asmund turned away from the demigod to release his own powers when the demigod stepped forward.

“Asmund, I’ll be waiting for you.” Ben said and Asmund stopped in his tracks as his eyes slightly shook, “From what I learned from the others, I know that vampires who turned off their humanity can’t feel anything…but I needed you to know that I will always be here for you no matter what.”

“Pathetic…” Asmund said scoffing and Ben’s eyes widened in surprise, “I killed you, Prometheus and you deign to love me? Human feelings are so weak and pitiful…it sickens me to think that I had such weakness.”

“Love isn’t weakness, Asmund.” Ben told him, “You are a kind, caring, and generous young man who cares for his friends and puts his needs aside for their own safety and happiness.”

That right there is why I was weak.” Asmund snarled as he walked up to Ben in anger and yet the demigod could sense pain underneath the anger, “I sacrificed everything to help them and they did nothing to help me! Now I shall leave…I have big plans to achieve in order to destroy my sister and I shall use the most powerful weapon of all to do so.”

“I know that you don’t feel it now…” Ben said calmly as he walked up to Asmund with a soft smile upon his face, “But you’re still in there, Asmund…and when you find your better half…come back to me. In the meantime; I shall be your advocate here and I will never give up on you. So…do what you need to in order to push through your pain, but no matter what…you are always welcomed back to your home.”

Asmund scowled in disgust as he couldn’t imagine why Ben would ever forgive him after he was killed by Asmund and he vanished from Ben’s sight as the demigod sighed with a smile on his face, knowing that Asmund wasn’t truly gone since he had seen the emotion within the Tribrid.

“No matter what, Asmund.” Ben said softly as he closed his eyes and held a hand over his heart, “I’ll be here for you.”

Asmund gasped for breath as he found himself back at the mansion, anger filling his body and mind as he couldn’t believe how idiotic his friends were, and he blasted a bolt of lightning against a flower vase in the room, breaking it into pieces as his eyes glowed red.

“Master Mikaelson.” a man’s voice said behind him meekly and Asmund could sense that the man was human, meaning that he must be a servant of Aurora that she kept alive, “Mistress Aurora has requested to have you meet her in the dining hall.”

“Did she find our quarry?” Asmund asked and he sensed the man shift nervously, causing the Tribrid to let out an irritated sigh, “Damn, do I have to do everything around here?”

He sped towards the man, grabbing him by the throat, and sinking his fangs into the helpless man as he cried out in pain while Asmund drank from his neck until the man fell to his knees weakly.

“That…was refreshing.” Asmund muttered as he wiped the blood from his lips, “Perhaps I should finish the job now.”

“Wait, Master Asmund.” the man said weakly as he bowed his head toward Tribrid, “Please…don’t kill me.”

“Why shouldn’t I kill you?” Asmund questioned, “I detest Aurora De Martel and if she had deigned you worthy enough to keep alive then I should kill you just to displease her.”

“I will swear loyalty to you.” the man told him, “My name is Demitris if it pleases you, my Master.”

Asmund raised an eyebrow in amusement as he hadn’t expected the human to betray Aurora, although he assumed that the threat of being killed would motivate any human to betray their master or mistress and change loyalty in a flash. As much as he wanted to displease Aurora, Asmund realized that it would truly be pointless in killing the man before him so he let out a sigh and knelt down in front of Jensen

“I think I shall keep you as my pet .” the Tribrid commented as he lifted the man’s head up, “You shall obey me from now on and forget your loyalty to Aurora De Martel. If by chance, you win my favor…I may grant you a wish of your choosing.”

“Thank you, Master Asmund.” Demitris said bowing his head to the floor, “I shall hereby be loyal to you from now on. Aurora De Martel shall no longer be my mistress.”

Asmund nodded as he lifted his wrist to his mouth and bit down, allowing himself to bleed as he held out his wrist to Demitris.

“Drink.” he commanded, “You shall be healed, but you shall have my blood in your system, so if you die…then I shall be your sire.”

The man grabbed Asmund’s bleeding wrist and began drinking the Tribrid’s blood . healing immediately and Asmund smirked as Jensen finished drinking, only for the Tribrid to snap the young man’s neck and kill him to start Demitris’s transition. Asmund looked down at the man’s lifeless body as he knew that he was going to turn Jensen anyways and use the young man to spy on Aurora for him and he proceeded to leave the room with Jensen lifeless on the ground. Asmund made his way to the dining  room where he found Aurora talking to one of her henchmen and he walked to the fireplace and stared at it as he poured himself a glass of whiskey.

“We still haven’t found this god that could kill your sister.” Aurora told Asmund, who sighed in irritation, “Do you think you could do better?”

Asmund stayed silent for a moment as he wondered where Ben’s father might be and an idea came to mind as a small wicked smile came to his face.

“You have an idea.” Aurora said, seeing the Tribrid’s smile.

“It’s time for me to return to Salvatore Manor.” Asmund replied as he looked at her.

“Are you going after your sister?” Aurora questioned and Asmund shook his head.

“I am going after the key to everything.” he told her.

Back at Salvatore School; Ben was looking out of Asmund’s bedroom window out into the garden where many of the school’s younger children were playing with each other and Ben’s mind was occupied with thoughts of his past when he had fallen in love with a human, who was killed, and he had begged his father for help. His father had denied his request and so Ben stole magic from the gods and gave it to mankind, which caused him to be chained to a rock for centuries while monsters fed upon him, killing him over and over again as his curse always revived him.

“You alright?” Elijah’s voice called out from behind the demigod, who turned to the vampire.

“I am just reflecting upon my past.” Ben told him, “When my father cursed me after my first love died in my arms, I never believed that I’d find happiness in my lifetime…but then…”

Ben fell silent as Elijah waited patiently for the demigod to continue, knowing that Ben must be thinking about Asmund, and a small smile appeared on the vampire’s face as he was happy that someone, even someone as unique as Ben, found love towards his nephew.

“You love Asmund, don’t you?” Elijah asked and Ben looked at the vampire, who sat upon Asmund’s bed while looking around the room, “When my dear nephew was born…his father, Lucien, was killed in front of Klaus’ eyes by witches, who believed that Asmund would destroy them all. I entered the church too late and saw my brother holding Lucien’s body in his arms with tears in his eyes…my heart was broken and Asmund was missing.”

“You loved Lucien.” Ben said in realization and Elijah smiled sadly, “I always thought that he and Klaus loved each other.”

“They loved each other in their own way, but Klaus wasn’t in love with Lucien like I was.” Elijah told him, “Lucien and I…well, we just weren’t meant to be in the end.”

“Does Asmund know about your history with his father?” Ben asked curiously.

“I think that in some way…he must know.” Elijah admitted with a heavy sigh, “I don’t know if he approved, but I love Lucien dearly.”

“You speak as if you still love Asmund’s father.” Ben pointed out as he started walking up to Elijah, who looked up at the demigod.

“I’ll never stop loving Lucien.” he said, “My only regret is that I didn’t fulfill Lucien’s wish of being a vampire.”

“His father wanted to be a vampire?” Ben questioned shocked and Elijah nodded.

“He believed that he should be able to live long enough to help his son achieve his full potential, but he died before that could take place.” the vampire told Ben.

“Such sentimentality.” Asmund’s voice interrupted them and Ben turned to see Asmund standing in the doorway with a smirk on his face, “I knew that you loved my father, uncle…but I never accepted you worthy of my father’s love.”

“Asmund…” Elijah started to say when his nephew threw his hand toward his uncle, causing Elijah to fly back against the wall and fall unconscious.

“Elijah…” Ben started to say when Asmund sped right in front of the demigod.

“I think you have other issues to worry about.” the tribrid told the demigod, “How about you tell me about your father…Ken, was it?”

“Why do you want to know about that bastard?” Ben questioned as he began to back up away from Asmund carefully while looking at Elijah’s unconscious form.

“I plan on summoning your father to destroy my sister.” Asmund told him with a devious smirk, “I…”

Suddenly Asmund froze as he felt a familiar presence appear on the earthly plane and he quickly turned his head toward the window overlooking the school’s front yard.

“Impossible.” he said shakily as his eyes shook in fear of the presence and he took a look out of the window, seeing someone familiar down in the school yard.

“Asmund?” Ben replied confused just as the Tribrid sped out of the room and away from the school as Ben rushed to the window to see someone wearing dark clothes standing in the yard before disappearing in a flash, “Who the hell…”

“Ben!” Freya called out as she came rushing into the room and found her brother unconscious on the floor, “Elijah…”

She rushed up to the Original vampire, kneeling beside her brother as she checked his vitals, and she let out a slow breath before looking up at the demigod.

“He’s okay.” she said, “I sensed Asmund here and so I rushed up as quickly as I could.”

“Yeah, he paid us a surprise visit.” Ben told her, “He plans on waking up my father to destroy Hope. I think he was planning on taking me to help him find my father.”

“Why didn’t he take you?” Freya asked in confusion as she walked up to the demigod.

Someone surprised him.” Ben answered and Freya tilted her head, “I thought Asmund’s emotions were turned off when his humanity turned off?”

“He has no emotions while his humanity is off.” Freya confirmed

“Then why did Asmund run scared after seeing someone standing in the yard just now?” Ben asked her as he pointed toward the yard and Freya’s eyes widened in shock.

“Asmund was afraid of someone down there?” she questioned and Ben nodded as his eyes cast down, “Ben…who did you see?”

Several miles from the school; Asmund skidded to a stop as he tried to catch his breath while his mind reeled from the shock of seeing the familiar figure standing in the Salvatore schoolyard and he clenched his fists in rage as he blasted a fireball at a nearby tree in frustration.

They can’t be back Asmund thought to himself, They died…this must be a trick

“Seems like you got a lot of rage.” a female voice said behind the Tribrid and Asmund turned to look over his shoulder at the new presence, “And your humanity is turned off…seems like you didn’t succeed in getting your sister’s humanity back on.”

“What the hell are you doing back on Earth?” Asmund asked, turning away from the woman.

“Landon Kirby is in charge of Limbo.” the female explained, “He believed that I would help you turn Hope’s humanity back on.”

“I have a new mission.” Asmund said, “Hope shall die by my hands.”

“I am sorry, Asmund.” the woman replied as she moved in front of the Tribrid and Asmund looked up at the woman who had long brown hair and brown eyes, “You shall not harm Hope.”

“I’m warning you now…” Asmund said angrily, “Stay out of my way.”

The woman looked at him for a moment before smiling softly at the young man as she began walking up to him.

“Now what kind of mother would I be if I didn’t protect the ones dearest to me?” she said in a sweet but dangerous tone, “Hope is your half sister and I know that you love her so I am going to make sure that you don’t do something that you’d regret.”
Asmund’s face twitched in rage as he knew that this woman in front of him would do everything in her power to make sure that both Hope and Asmund lived through their feud…this woman, Hayley Marshall ; Hope’s mother and the woman that loved Asmund as if he was her own son.

Chapter 10: Resurrection

Chapter Text

Asmund stood in the middle of the woods, glaring at the woman in front of him as he couldn’t believe that he was standing across from Hope’s mother. He had last seen her the day before her death when she went to go save Hope from some Nazi vampires and he had regretted not spending more time with her, but he had no time to focus on the past as he realized that she was going to pose a problem

“How the hell are you alive?” Asmund questioned on edge.

“We have a mutual acquaintance in charge of Limbo.” Hayley told him and Asmund scoffed in realization.

“Landon Kirby.” he said, shaking his head, “I doubt that he could just pop you out of the afterlife.”

“Unfortunately, he had to sacrifice a piece of himself.” Hayley told him, “But I am back with no strings attached and I felt you, Asmund…not my daughter, but you and I knew that I had to help you.”

“I am in this mess because I decided to help your daughter.” Asmund seethed in rage as he stormed up to Hayley and jabbed a finger in her chest, “Actually…if I think about it, everything bad that happened to me was because of Hope.”

“Asmund…” Hayley started to say.

“No, I mean…I lost myself to the Hollow because of her and my first ever boyfriend died because of her.” Asmund said, “Klause died because of her….I needed my father after Lucien died and she caused him to die.”

“Niklaus died to save both of you.” Hayley argued.

“Bullshit!” Asmund yelled in anguish and Hayley watched stunned as a single tear fell down the young man’s face, “It was always about Hope’s needs and I was overlooked…I spent my life feeling like nothing and I had no one to help me.”

“Your sister must have been there to help you.” Hayley said gently and Asmund scoffed as he looked at the woman in disbelief.

“Do you seriously believe that?” he asked her, “She used me, Hayley…her own brother and then she forced him to kill the man that he loved just for her own sick amusement so here I am…with my humanity off and I am better for it so why don’t you just visit your daughter and prepare her for my wrath?”

“Asmund…” Hayley started to say when Asmund vanished from her sight and she sighed as she realized that he was long gone from their spot.

Hayley shook her head gently as she knew that she was going to have to find another way to bring Asmund’s humanity back on and she may need to rely on Landon again if she had any chance of helping the young man. She knew that Asmund’s humanity wasn’t fully closed off as she had witnessed his rage and anguish.

“You’re not gone, Asmund.” she whispered, “Just lost and I know of a way to bring you back…just going to be tricky.”

She left the woods and began making her way back to Salvatore School in hopes of getting her daughter’s humanity back on.

Meanwhile back at the school; Ben was sitting in the main gathering room as students went about their day with their studies and the demigod questioned how the students could casually go about their days, only for Alaric to inform him that the students were just doing their best not to focus on the bad and the demigod had come to understanding though he wondered how long that peace would last with Hope and Asmund at war with each other.

“You alright?” Freya asked, coming up to the demigod who looked up at her with a wry chuckle.

“I think that is a broad question.” he said and she nodded in understanding, “What do we do now?”

“We are expecting someone that might be able to bring Asmund’s humanity back on.” Freya said, “She and Lucien were very close, best friends in fact, and she had gone into hiding for her own protection.”

“And you believe that she would be able to help Asmund get his humanity back on?” Ben asked and Freya sighed as she was uncertain.

“It’s worth a try.” a woman’s voice said entering the room and Ben looked to see a woman with long blonde hair and brown hair standing there in a blue dress, “Freya, it is good to see you again.”

“It’s been too long.” Freya replied as she walked up to the woman and hugged her tightly before turning to the demigod, “Ben, I’d like to introduce an old friend…Camille O’Conner, or Cami as she likes to be called.”

“So this is the demigod that has captured the heart of Lucien’s son.” Cami said as she looked at Ben in approval, “Lucien would be proud.”

“You’re the bar owner that Asmund recognized when we went back in time.” Ben said in awe and Cami smiled softly.

“Yes, Freya informed me about your little trip to the past.” she said, “Asmund in love with a demigod…always thought you guys were myths.”

“All myths are some form of truths lost in translation.” Ben told her as he chuckled, “My father, Ken, was a power hungry god that punished other gods and their children just for sport and fear. My half sister, Jen, was able to seal him and the other gods by tricking them for their own safety so they lay asleep and hidden from the world. Jen is the only one that knows the location of the coffins.”

“What is it with a family of immortals and their coffins?” Cami questioned, looking at Freya with a smirk as she recalled when Klaus used to dagger his siblings and placed them in coffins, “Seems like a requirement for immortals.”

“Seems like I’m late to the party.” a woman’s voice said, causing everyone to turn around and Freya gasped in shock as she stared at the newcomer.

“Hayley?” she questioned as she moved towards the woman in disbelief and the woman smiled softly.

“Been a long time, Freya.” the woman said and Freya rushed up to the woman and hugged her tightly as tears fell down her face.

“You were dead…” the witch said and Hayley looked at her sadly, “How are you back?”

“Landon Kirby sent me back.” Hayley explained, “He made a deal with the god of death it seems and gained the ability to send me back from the afterlife.”

“Power like that is dangerous.” Ben said with concern in his voice, “Knowing the rules of the gods, then Landon had to pay some kind of price.”

“Landon told me that he was ready to pay the price.” Hayley told Ben, “Now, what did Asmund want with you?”

“If I had to guess….” Ben said as he pondered to himself, “I believe he wants to raise my father to destroy Hope.”

“That isn’t good.” Hayley replied with a heavy sigh just as footsteps echoed down the halls and she turned to see Elijah standing there in shock.

“Hayley?” he questioned in disbelief and she smiled softly at home.

“Hello Elijah.” she said and he rushed up to her, hugging her tightly as he couldn’t believe that Hope’s mother was alive again.

“How?” he asked as his body shook.

“It’s a long story, but I am here to stay.” she answered as she pulled back and then looked at him with a serious gaze, “Now…where is my daughter?”

Down in the basement of the school; Hope was sitting in a cell, blocked off to magic thanks to Lizzie and Josie using their siphoning magic to cut off Hope’s access, and Hope was humming to herself as she was patiently biding her time to break free and go after her brother, who she clearly had underestimated. As Hope sat there, she heard footsteps coming down the stairs leading to the cells and she smirked as she believed that one of her friends was coming to visit her in hopes of trying to get her humanity back on.

“You know, if you’re here to beg me to feel something then save your breath as I’m done feeling.” Hope called out, “So unless you’ve brought me blood or a way out, turn around and go cry to someone that….”

“You always were stubborn.” a familiar female voice questioned and Hope’s eyes widened in shock.

“No…” Hope said, her smirk faltering and her brows furrowed in confusion as she stood up and slowly turned to see her mother coming down the steps, “You’re not real…you, this is some kind of trick…I saw you die! I grieved for you!”

“I did die, my daughter.” Hayley replied gently “Landon brought me back to life…for you .”

“No. No, no, no…you don’t get to come back now!” Hope shouted in anger, “You don’t get to do this to me. I turned it off so I wouldn’t have to-so I couldn’t…”

Hope choked as her emotions began to rise to the surface as the sight of seeing her mother alive caused cracks in her mind, causing her humanity to leak through.

“It’s alright, baby.” Hayley said as tears fell down her face, “You don’t have to hide your feelings anymore.”

Aw, she thinks you’re weak Asmund’s voice echoed in Hope’s ear as he appeared to her in astral form as he smirked at her, You know your dead boyfriend sure surprised me by bringing Hayley back. He had hoped to make me turn my humanity on, but he failed just like you failed to kill me when you had the chance .

“Shut up.” Hope said angrily as she turned to her brother’s astral form and Hayley’s eyes slanted in confusion before realizing that her daughter must be seeing someone invisible to her eyes.

“Hope, are you talking to Asmund?” Hayley asked and Asmund raised an eyebrow slightly.

She always was pretty smart he remarked, Go ahead, sister regain your humanity and become weak it will make it so much easier to defeat you and the others .

“Hope, don’t listen to him.” Hayley told her daughter, “Come back to me.”

Yes, run to mommy dearest Asmund taunted as he moved between Hope and her mother, Which will you choose, sister ? Go after me or your mother-daughter bond ?

“Shouldn’t you be worried about your little demigod?” Hope questioned and Asmund chuckled as he shook his head.

Oh dear sister … her brother said as he walked up to her and leaned in close as she sensed an ominous presence emanating from her, He could die for all I care so do what you will with him

Are you that far gone, Asmund ? A male voice asked and Hope’s eyes widened in shock as she turned to see Landon standing behind her with a sad look on his face.

“Landon.” Hope whispered as Hayley looked at the new god of death.

“Landon, is Asmund here?” Hayley asked the young man, who looked at her and nodded, “Asmund, listen to me…you can come back to us.”

She’s still trying Asmund scoffed as he rolled his eyes, I shall leave you, sister

Asmund vanished from Landon’s and Hope’s views and Landon sighed in disappointment as he walked up to Hayley while Hope watched her boyfriend walk by her.

“This is going to be more difficult than I thought.” Landon admitted as he scratched his head, “Will your friend be able to bring his humanity back on?”

“Honestly, I am not sure if Cami will be able to bring his humanity back on.” Hayley admitted, “We need someone with a stronger connection to Asmund.”

“I’ll do what I can.” Landon promised and he turned to leave as Hope started moving toward him.

“Wait.” she called after him and Landon stopped in his tracks, “You have nothing to say to me?”

Landon didn’t say anything as he continued to walk away and Hope’s anger rose as she couldn’t believe that the boy she had loved wasn’t even caring about her well being.

“You’ve got to be shitting me.” she seethed, “You’re more worried about my brother than about me ?”

“Now is not the time, Hope.” Landon said sternly as he glanced back over his shoulder at her and her eyes widened as she saw that there was a new strength behind his eyes that she had never seen before, “Your brother is on his way to awaken the Gods and he must be stopped if this world is to survive. If you want to help, then turn your humanity back on…otherwise, stay out of my way.”

Landon vanished and Hope lowered her eyes as she pondered on what her next steps may be while her mother waited for her to make a decision about her future.

“Hope…” Hayley started to say when her daughter raised a hand to stop her mother.

“I’ll make a compromise with you.” Hope told her mother, “I shall join you and our family to get Asmund’s humanity back, but I am not turning mine on. This is purely a means to an end.”

“That shall be fine.” a new female voice said as Hope heard several footsteps descend into the cells and she looked to see Cami entering the room with Elijah and Freya, “As powerful as you are, Hope…you have no idea what your brother is capable of.”

“Camille O’Connell.” Hope said mildly surprised to see her father’s old flame alive, “You’re alive.”

“I went into hiding and survived thanks to Lucien’s advice many years ago.” Cami replied and she smiled softly as she realized something, “It could be that Lucien foresaw that Asmund would need my help one day when his humanity was turned off.”

“Well, it looks like a grand family reunion.” Hope scoffed as she shook her head before looking at her family, “Shall we get started then?”

Asmund arrived back at the Triad’s headquarters and blasted the door open in frustration as he couldn’t believe that the ghosts of his past were coming back for him and he sighed as he ran a hand through his hair.

“I’m guessing that things didn’t go well?” Aurora questioned as she entered the room and he glared up at her, “Well, no matter…there is someone here to meet you.”

“Aurora, I don’t have time for guessing games.” Asmund groaned in irritation until he sensed a powerful presence behind him.

Asmund turned around slowly in confusion as he saw a man with golden hair, trimmed beard, and blue eyes wearing formal clothing as he looked at Asmund with curiosity in his eyes.

“Asmund, this is…” Aurora started to introduce.

“Ken…” Asmund interrupted as he realized that he was standing in front of the person that he had been searching for, “Ben’s father.”

“Hello Asmund Mikaelson.” Ken said with a deep voice as a small smile appeared on the god’s face, “I’ve been waiting a long time to meet the son of The Grand Mage. We have much to talk about.”

Asmund stared at Ken in confusion as he wondered why Ben’s father was waiting to meet him and he had no idea of the ramifications of his choices that will shape the near future as the supernatural and god collide in a war with innocents hanging in the balance.
