Chapter Text
"Grif! Where did you learn to drive!?" Simmons screeches over dramatically. Grif just barely stopping for the red light.
Grif cringes at the sudden outburst. "Jeez, dude. Chill! I was going the speed limit. S'not my fault the light skipped to red." Grif mumbles, rolling his eyes.
"Whatever..." Simmons goes back to looking out the passenger side window. "So, where are you taking us anyhow?" Simmons questions.
Grif flashes a lopsided smile. "You'll see." He responds as the light turns green and he continues down the road.
Simmons just watched out the window. Mind reeling over many options and possibilities of where his friend could be taking them. Especially since Grif kinda just grabbed him once he arrived back to their apartment from work- He barely had time to even shower properly! But Grif seemed pretty excited so, it probably had something to do with food. But at this rate, who knows. Grif could be full of surprises sometimes.
Simmons had just counted 105 trees passed since he started to keep track once they had arrived. Only realizing they had parked when Grif jabbed him in the side as his way of telling him their here.
"Ow! What was that for?" Simmons smacks a large hand away.
Grif chuckles. "We're here." He states.
"Well... A Simple say so would of done just fine..." The red head grumbles.
"Aww, but what would be the fun of that?" Grif smirks. "So, see where we're at yet?" He quirks a brow with a smile.
Simmons curiosity for where he was being took to returns, and he peeks out the window to see. Grif really IS full of surprises..."An...animal shelter?" Simmons eyes raise in surprise, turning to the other man questioningly.
Grif smiles again. "Mhm! An, Animal shelter. Surprised?"
"Surprised? Y-yeah, I'm surprised! Maybe even a little shocked?... But mostly, I'm just confused?... This is a little random Dex...?"
"Well... Last week we were talking about pets." He shrugs. "And you said something about always wanting a cat when you were younger, but your father didn't really... like cats, and your mom was allergic...so... Here we are!.." Grif chuckles awkwardly, he rubs the back of his neck. "Heh..."
Simmons eyes widen again. "Oh..." He says rather quietly. Taking another peek out the window towards the shelter. "Oh."
"Oh! But we don't have to get a cat if you don't want to... I- I probably should of asked first, I-" Simmons cuts him off.
"No! I- yes. I do want to get a cat! Definitely, I just... It just... caught me off guard.. I mean. You caught me off guard- I... Thanks Dex." Simmons smiles. Happy that his friend cares like this. Happy they are learning to... Be more than just sarcastic quips and insults. They've been friends for a long time. And bickering has always been their thing. It's just how they rolled, y'know? Never no venom behind anything. Never really had been. But after they decided to move in together, things have started to change. They've always been close, but this? This is something completely different. Heh... They've been doing a lot that lately- Being different. And Simmons has definitely been feeling different lately as well... He's just not sure if it's a good thing or bad.
Grif smiles. "You're welcome, Dick." That's a good example of different. They've been doing that more often lately, First names. It feels good.
"So! We gonna go in and find us a cat or what?" Grif says through a grin, clapping his hands together like an excited child.
Simmons couldn't help but to find himself grinning and feeling excited as well. "Yep!" He snorts. "Let's go find us a cat." Together...
