“Stop,” Cat called.
Lena and Kara froze and turned to her confused.
“I can’t take it anymore,” she said holding up a hand then gesturing between them. “This has to stop.”
“What?” they chorused.
“The longing looks and puppy dog pining. You two need to kiss and get it over with.”
They both looked at her horrified.
“What?” Kara gasped.
“There’s no looks,” Lena said quickly.
Cat rolled her eyes.
“Oh please the two of you may as well walk around with a sign saying unresolved sexual tension flashing above your heads.”
Lena was choking on air and Kara was pretty sure she’d stopped breathing. The entire staff of Catco was looking at them, quite a few smothering laughter.
“There’s no sexual tension,” Lena said quickly.
Cat gave her a disbelieving look.
“Prove it.”
Lena swallowed then seemed to pull on her CEO armour.
“I’m not sure what you’re suggesting-”
“I’m suggesting you kiss her and then look me in the eye and tell me there is no sexual tension between you.”
Lena smoothed her hands on her skirt.
“She’s straight-”
“If she’s straight I’m celibate,” Cat said meeting Lena’s glare.
Kara was trying very hard not to hear the almost silent gasp that escaped Lena’s lips as she looked at Kara.
“Kiera breathe!” Cat snapped.
Kara sucked in a breath.
“I’m breathing,” she said quickly. “See normal human breathing with no sexual tension whatsoever.”
There was some laughter from those around them. Cat sighed giving Kara a disappointed look. Lena cleared her throat.
“Well no matter your opinion on the matter Ms Grant you are mistaken about the tension. We are just friends,” Lena said with surprising calm considering her heartbeat.
Cat sighed.
“If there’s no tension then I’m sure you can engage in one friendly little kiss without any feelings coming up between you.”
In an effort not to make a noise Kara stopped breathing again. Lena sighed heavily and fixed Cat with her best controlled Luthor face.
“Ms Grant, Kara and I will not be indulging your-” Lena waved a hand. “Suggestion.”
Kara quickly nodded.
“And you can’t make us,” she added.
Lena gave her a confused look. Kara did her best I don’t know but I’m trying look. Lena sighed and nodded they looked back at Cat crossing their arms forming a united front. Cat rolled her eyes and sighed turning and walking back into her office.
Kara blew out a relieved breath and looked at Lena.
“Well that was weird,” she said.
Lena was looking at her oddly.
“Are you straight?”
“Um…” Kara gulped. “Well I- Uh, no but I also haven’t done anything with a woman. So…”
She gave Lena an awkward look while tapping her fingers together. Lena gave her an odd look and Kara’s eyes widened.
“Not that you have to do something with another person to validate your sexuality. I just haven’t uh… you know…”
Kara decided she should probably stop speaking because Lena was still staring at her but now with a deliberately blank look.
“Is that an… issue?” Kara asked nervously.
“No,” Lena said quickly. “I just- Nevermind clearly I was wrong in my assessment.”
Lena looked away carefully taking a deep breath. Kara quickly looked around and saw Cat Grant returning holding a box of cupcakes. She set the box on the desk and then holding Kara’s gaze opened it to reveal a dozen perfect red velvet cupcakes.
Kara’s attention was immediately glued to the cupcakes. Cat removed one and held it up.
“Kiss her and I’ll give you this cupcake.”
Kara looked at the cupcake in Cat’s hand then Lena. Lena was frowning at Cat. She turned and noticed Kara looking at her and suddenly her heart was racing.
“Kara…”
Kara looked at the cupcake held by a smirking Cat then at Lena. She felt torn. On one hand cupcake, on the other possible embarrassment when she kissed Lena. Her eyes kept flicking between the cupcake and Lena as she nervously tapped her fingers together.
Lena gave her a look.
“Kara it’s a six dollar cupcake. You can buy them two blocks away. Hell I can have a dozen delivered in under half an hour.”
Kara bit her lip.
“But it’s one of hers…” Kara said looking back at Cat.
“How does that make it special?” Lena asked seeming a little flustered. “It’s still just a cupcake. It’s not like she made it.”
“But…” Kara gave Lena another look. “She’s never let me eat any of hers.”
Lena sighed deeply.
“I won’t wait forever. Decision time,” Cat said.
Kara was still torn her eyes on the cupcake held so temptingly close. She could smell the frosting. She gave Lena her best sad puppy dog eyes.
“Cupcake,” she said softly.
Lena sighed giving Kara a look of deepest betrayal and turned to Cat.
“Two cupcakes,” she said.
Cat smirked and removed a second one.
“If I’m paying double I expect a little effort to be put in,” Cat said. “Open mouth, holding each other close, and eyes closed.”
Kara suddenly remembered what she’d just agreed to. Oh Rao she was about to kiss Lena.
Lena glared at Cat a final time and turned to Kara. Lena gave her a determined look and grabbed Kara firmly. Kara gulped and then Lena pulled her close and they were kissing.
Kara opened her mouth a little and Lena’s tongue swept in and Kara melted. Her arms coming around Lena holding her closer as she kissed her back. Lena made a small noise in the back of her throat and then they were pressed even closer.
Kara was in heaven. Perfect, soft, expensive perfume scented heaven. Lena’s hand was in her hair and on her back pulling her closer. Kara carefully held Lena by her hips holding her as tight as she dared. She tilted her head to one side and felt Lena press closer and then suddenly Lena was gone gasping for breath and staring at Kara with wide eyes.
Kara blushed and quickly let go of Lena wiping the lipstick off her mouth as she did.
Cat watched the two of them as they quickly smoothed their clothes and hair awkwardly. Lena pulled out a small hand mirror to check her makeup.
“Cupcakes please,” Kara said.
A smirking Cat handed them over. Lena accepted the second one and carefully broke it in half. She offered one half to Kara. Kara looked at her surprised.
“You get sad when you only have one because it’s not equivalent to a whole slice of cake. You had me do the math for it, one and a half was a rough equivalent.”
Kara smiled at Lena then looked at the half she had been given.
“Thank you.”
Lena shrugged.
“What are friends for?”
“Un-fucking-believable,” Cat said looking at the two of them.
They looked back both pretending to be absorbed in eating their cupcakes. Cat just walked back into her office with her cupcakes. Kara sighed watching the cupcakes leave.
“Hey,” Lena said quietly.
Kara turned to her and then she realised she was blushing.
“Hey,” Kara said.
“Wanna go get more cupcakes?” Lena asked.
Kara grinned at her and nodded. They left ignoring the whole of Catco staring at them. They entered the lift and Kara nervously glanced at Lena. Lena stayed quiet.
They were silent the whole way to the cupcake shop. A distance of two blocks.
“So…” Kara said nervously fiddling with her glasses as they waited for the cupcakes to be fit into the box. “Did you want to talk about the whole…”
Lena quickly cleared her throat. Kara fell silent until they had emerged from the shop and got into Lena’s car.
“Frank take us to the restaurant then circle the block,” Lena said.
Frank nodded and then the partition went up. Kara looked at Lena then Lena was kissing her again. Kara made a noise of surprise then she was kissing Lena back. Hands were on clothes pulling closer as their mouths met with increasing desperation. They separated panting. Lena’s eyes were wide her hands fisted in Kara’s button up. Kara wasn’t doing much better her heart racing as everything in her kept still trying not to immediately launch herself at Lena again.
“Or we could just go to my place,” Lena suggested.
Kara nodded eagerly then surged forwards kissing Lena again.
Twenty minutes later they were on Lena’s bed and Lena was tearing at Kara’s clothes barely pulling her mouth away from Kara’s except to breathe. Lena growled a protest then moaned encouragement as Kara’s mouth moved lower. Kara sighed as her mouth found the place between Lena’s legs and she finally got her first taste.
“Oh fuck-”
Lena’s words disappeared in a gasp then she was grinding against Kara’s tongue with increasing desperation. Kara moved faster and then Lena’s body went rigid and a strangled scream escaped her throat.
Cat walked in the next morning to see her office full of flowers. She looked at them for a moment then very carefully removed a card from the largest bouquet. She read it, turned, and walked back out of her office. She stopped outside Kara’s office. Kara looked up doing her best to look innocent.
“Yes Ms Grant?”
Cat looked at her for a minute.
“My office is full of flowers…”
Kara nodded slowly. Cat held up the card.
“It just says thank you.”
Kara looked from her to the card and back again.
“I’m sorry Ms Grant I don’t know anything about it,” she said.
Cat sighed.
“You’re welcome,” she called walking back to her office.
Kara smiled and went back to typing her article as Cat called for Eve to come do something about the flowers in her office. Kara waited until she was sure Cat was occupied before sending Lena a message confirming they were still good for lunch. Lena replied immediately with a single red heart.
