Chapter Text
Frederik didn't expect Teresa to jump in the water, he was almost jumping after her when she came up for air, and she had this girl who wasn't breathing, he took her from Teresa's arms and starting to push on her esophagus and giving her air, while Teresa came out of the water, she put the water pump in the hole. Suddenly, Righmor throwed up a lot of water and started breathing heavily.
Teresa hugged her, and gave Frederik a look that he never expected to see again. They took the same tunnel that took Frederik, and when they were out, a man took the girl and hugged her, Frederik told him to take her to the paramedics for a check, since she almost drowned.
Teresa stood there helping the hurt ones, crying for the lost ones and really don't understanding why God had let her live while all those children and sisters died. Frederik stood there, helping in whathever he could, always having an eye on Teresa.
When there weren't anything else they could do, they finally sat down, and talked.
-Why are you here, and why aren't you in your uniform? Teresa asked.
-I… -Frederik cleared his throat -I quitted the special police, I was on my way to leave the city when I heard the explosions, when I looked back, the smoke was from here. I could not stand the tought of leaving while you could be trapped or dead, I needed to know- He looked down to his dusty hands. Teresa took his hand on hers, and he shooked his head.
-I have no place here, said Teresa, they've told me this was my last day here, that what we… what I did was an abomination, an aberration. But… when I saw you inside there, if we indeed had died, my only remorse would have been not saving Righmor. Because even if whatever we had was wrong or futile, I saw you one last time.
Frederik lifted her head, and Teresa saw something in his eyes, he didn’t seem empty or tormented, there were light in his eyes. He squeezed her hand, and talked so quietly that she almost misses it.
- When I found you there, I felt like I could breath again, and If I had died there, I would have died happily because I was with you. I have no place here either, they would kill me, any of them, for what I did, for what I cannot do anymore.-
He looked her lips, then her eyes - And I ask for your forgiveness for all the times that I disrespected you -He could only feel remorse for the way that he treated her in that chapel- I have nothing to offer to you, only the promise of being a man worth of you. Of course, only if you agree.
Behind him, she saw movement, the police were there, and the only thing that she could think of was that they couldn't see Frederik. Teresa gently caressed his cheek, and when he felt like she was going to reject him, she stood up, and started to walk behind what was left of the building, without letting go his hand, so he followed her pace.
- I forgive you, and I could not ask for more, and I will spend the rest of my days being thankful of having another chance, for once, I’m going to choose, so I choose you.
She lifted in her toes and gave him a peck on the lips. He stood there in shock, like the first time, but with a grin on his face, he smiled and kissed her seriously. Before the kiss deepened too much, he stopped and took her hand, and they took advantage of the chaos in the city to walk out of there.

Chapter Text
On their way out of the city, they stopped at his parents place, where only were his mother, who saw them holding hands and said nothing just hugged both of them and even though she encouraged them to take a shower they were in a hurry, so she gave Teresa some dresses from her young years, they were old fashioned, and a little short, but it didn’t mind her, Frederik took another change of clothes, and in the pitch of the night they left the city.
They stopped by a small inn, in which they registered as Mr. And Mrs. Mørk. That way they wouldn't be suspicious. They were too exhausted to be surrounded by the other guests, so they asked to have their dinner in the room.
When Frederik opened the door to their room, there was just a small table, two chairs, a nightstand and the bed. Even though he didn't wanted to see, the bed was small enough for two people, if they were going to sleep there, they had to do it very close to each other, he didn’t know if it would make Teresa uncomfortable, but he was going to do everything to assure her well-being.
She entered the room, and took a sit on the foot of the bed, Frederik doubted and took a chair from beside the table. She felt weird, it had been less than a year that she were in the school, she was still a novice. And more important, she was only there after both of her parents died in a shooting near their farm, her only respectable choice, was to enter to the sisterhood.
And there she was, with a man, of whom she didn’t even knew his last name. She let out a little laugh. He tensed his shoulders, but again, he hadn't heard her laugh.
-What? He asked.
She shook her head -I think it's so weird, here we are, almost strangers to each others, we don't even know our last names, running away together. It's almost poetic. However, – she stood up from the bed and walked to him, put her hands on his soulders, her thumbs gently caressing his neck, - I want to know you. – He touched her hair, put behind her ear some strands and felt the urge to kiss her, but a knock on the door distracted them. She went to open, while he hide behind the door, ready to neutralice any threat.
It was only the owner with their dinner, so she received the tray, said thanks and Frederik closed the door. Teresa put the tray on the table, and they shared dinner in a little tension.
While she was taking a shower he went to leave the tray to the kitchens, and wanted to smoke a cigarette, but he didn’t have the urge, s he just stood outside of the room, he didn’t wanted to be in there when she came out of the shower, it was going to be difficult enough for him to not touch her, but he would do it.
When he heard the bathroom door opening and closing, he entered, she was dressed, thank God. But he was flustered anyway, her short wet hair, her soft skin, and pale hands. He just closed the door and fight the urge to touch her.
-You should take a shower now, there is hot water. -She said, glanced at him and added -Well, maybe a cold one suits you best, I leave it to you.-
He blushed hard, but replied -I'll let you know which one I'll take, it may help you to build your fantasies, and if you need some other… details, let me know.- He winked at her and entered the bathroom, as he closed the door he heard her laugh.
He was exhausted, so he took that warm shower, felt his muscles starting to relax, after he had extenuated them all day. He walked out of the shower and dried himself with a towel, put on clean clothes and went out of the bathroom.
Teresa was already in bed, almost sleeping, but she needed to say that it was okay that they shared the bed, even if she didn’t wanted to admit it, she needed him close, especially that night, since they both almost died that day.
When he left the bathroom, she just tapped the empty space in the bed beside her, he walked slowly, turned of the lights and went to lie beside her. They both were lying on their backs, hands on their belly, shoulders and arms touching, their legs barely separated.
And then he spoke, -I hope you're not afraid of me, I said that I won’t force you to anything, and, well I am too exhausted to do anything, anyway.- She let out a little giggle, and he laughed with her, she turned on her side to face him, and he imitated her movement, so now they were face to face. She put her hands under her chin, most to fight the urge to touch his hair, which could be a dangerous move to make.
-Well, I am not afraid of you, but I don't think we should take things further while we're on the run. However, I don’t know how to face the pain, when I close my eyes I saw all of them, the ones that made it out alive, and the ones who didn’t. I saw all of them and I don't know why I am still here. I am grateful, of course, but I don't understand it.
Frederik lifted his hand and put it on her head, her thumb caressing the soft skin of her forehead, then her cheek. She put her hand on top of his.
-I won’t leave you alone, I will be right here beside you, I cannot face your memories for you. But I will make you company while you do it, we all have our own demons. I will tell you something, and if it make you uncomfortable, please tell me. The first time you saw me, was the first time I actually hit someone, I only had been in the HIPO for a few weeks, I was a simple official, however, I usually was the one who held people from fight back when they beated them. And I cannot sleep well, I still hear their screams, the sound of bones being broken, the sound of fists against flesh. I cannot do anything to stop them, I just let them pass, and I promise to them, and myself, that I would do everything in my hands to make it up for my mistakes.
She was amused by his voice, so calm, yet so full of emotions, maybe she could handle that first night.
-I think, -she said -I think I will try, just don't leave me…
He kissed her hand -I will not–
And they fell asleep.
