Chapter 1: My Eyes are Down Here

Chapter Text

Legoshi is sitting across from Louis, uptown in some fancy coffee shop with big un-obscured windows, animals of every kind hustling by outside the glass.

They chose the window seat. Or, Louis chose the window seat so he could have his back to the wall and see every exit.

‘Control freak’. Legoshi snorts inwardly. Fond.

Louis is intermittently tapping away at his laptop and taking careful sips from his coffee, skinny soft fingers cradling the width of the cup.

Legoshi has to look away before he ruminates too long on his hand.

They do this often. Sit in companionable silence for long bouts of time. Louis working on Horns business and Legoshi just... keeping him company.

It works for them.

Legosi likes spending time with Louis. He likes Louis. That much is obvious. More than like, he admires him. He’s easily the most inspiring animal Legoshi knows. But, he supposes it’s more than that, as well.

Louis is kind underneath that tough hide. He’s-

Legoshi looks at him from the corner of his eye, muzzle pointed towards the window.

He’s pretty.

It’s no secret Legoshi is entranced by herbivores. Louis himself pokes at him in regards to his preference all the time. Perhaps he doesn’t realize it extends to him as well.

Louis, occupied, the ridge above his eyes gently furrowed, seems unaware of Legoshi’s gentle gawking. Those quick eyes dart merciless across the screen. Legoshi sympathizes for any grammatical error caught under that gaze.

Legoshi also envies them. Legoshi envies anything that Louis grants attention.

Legoshi leans heavily into one clawed palm. His rearranging, gentle as he tries, jostles the table a small amount.

Louis’ eyes are on him in an instant, fingertips pressed steady against the base of his laptop to keep it from tipping over.

Legoshi holds his breath.

Louis tilts his head and the sun shifts on his antlers, a passing glint that catches Legoshi’s eye.

His eyes dart upwards, following the light into the hollows of Louis’ antlers, towards the base that seamlessly blends into his fur. He traces upwards, following the spiral of the shortest antler just above his right eye. The tip, rounded out, still looks deadly. He looks-

“Ahem.”

Legoshi blinks, hand dropping from his muzzle.

Louis eyes him, the corners of his lips slightly curling.

“My eyes are down here, Legoshi.” He says, like he says everything. Dry at the start with a hint of honey. Legoshi gulps silently, throat suddenly thick.

“Sorry”. He rasps, gaze falling to meet Louis’. He finds a great amount of mirth swimming in those caramel colored eyes, a quiet smugness accentuated in the lopsidedness of his smile.

“Guess I’m dinner and a show.” Louis taunts, teeth flashing as he’s unable to contain his glee.

Legoshi groans, glad for his fur as his face burns hotly.
