Work Text:
It was almost a perfect day. Sunny, but with just enough clouds and wind to cut the stifling heat of the fading summer. You had decided to take a walk through the streets looking for something new to do. Spontaneity was difficult for you, but something you were determined to work on. As you strolled along, you tried to "be more present in the moment" by observing things. There were bright cheerful birds in the trees, colorful storefronts, delicious smells, and a lonely wallet almost in the gutter.
Shit! Oh, somebody was having a bad day. You nervously patted your own wallet in sympathy. Well, you thought to yourself, nothing better to do right now. And besides, if it were MY wallet, I would sure appreciate the help!
Stepping over to the wallet, you bent to inspect it. It looked… a little old and tattered, to be honest. Probably the reason it hadn't been picked up yet. But when you gingerly lifted it to find out more, the other side revealed it to be name brand and decently expensive! Well then, you decided, it must be well loved. Even MORE reason to find the owner.
Flipping it open, you were greeted with a very familiar and entirely unexpected face. OH FUCK. No way… you gasped to yourself. The ID picture was of none other than Jeon Jungkook, kpop idol and member of BTS, the biggest boygroup to ever live! Probably a fake, you decided. But quickly flipping through the rest of the wallet (sorry Jungkook-ssi), you were becoming more and more convinced. Well damn. What now?
You obviously couldn't show up at the Hybe building and claim to have a famous person's wallet, they would never believe you. And even if they did, they might end up calling security thinking you stole it! But looking closer at the contents of Jeon Jungkook's wallet seemed… inappropriate beyond belief. You knew sasaengs would pay incredible amounts of money to get even one glimpse of what you were now holding, but you were only stressed about it. You would NEVER betray somebody's privacy like that. But how to return it…
You realized pretty fast that this may be a task beyond your capabilities. But none of your friends were really into kpop so they wouldn't be invested, and besides, you didn't want the fact that you had Jungkook-ssi's wallet to get out, because that was just inviting creepy stalkers of your own. Wandering down the street deep in thought, you saw a little shady tree area with a couple benches that looked like a good place to ruminate and… idea-gather? You weren't entirely sure what you were doing, to be honest. This was really unexpected!
The copse was nice and cool, but slightly less unoccupied than you previously thought. There was a man in a hoodie and mask sitting on one of the other benches texting, but he didn't seem to be disturbed by your presence so you decided it was fine. Now for this wallet.
You could call his credit card company and ask them to notify him somehow? Presumably he still had his phone. Oh no, but what if he had lost that too! Maybe he had contact info for a manager or another member in his wallet…? But that really did feel too invasive. As a fan, you felt like any information about idols' personal lives not purposely given was something you should avoid. Having such a public job and life like that must be so intense, and a little bit terrifying.
You were on the verge of giving up and dumping the wallet out to sift for ideas when the man across from you suddenly swore.
"Fuck! Ah, shit."
You tried not to respond (not your problem) but you must have jumped or made some sort of noise because he looked up swiftly and hastily apologized.
"Ahh sorry! Really I didn't notice you."
Normally a violently cursing man would make you uncomfortable, but he seemed genuinely apologetic and… somehow familiar… He might have noticed the searching look on your face, because he stood abruptly and, apologizing again, began to back away.
As soon as he stood it hit you.
"Jungkook!! I-I mean, Jeon Jungkook-ssi."
You couldn't see most of his face because of the mask, but it looked a little like he grimaced fleetingly before pasting on a smile.
"Aha hello! Are you a fan? It's nice to meet you, but really I have this important meeting, you understand, don't really have time for any pictu-" He faltered.
You were equally flustered. "Oh, no, Jungkook-ssi I didn't intend for- well I technically am a- only I found this-"
Neither of you were getting a coherent sentence out and he was slowly inching further away the longer you talked. Time to take a deep breath and act like a normal human being. "Sorry, can we start again? Hi Jungkook-ssi. I love your group and music. I think I found your wallet today?"
At the word "wallet", Jungkook froze and locked eyes with you. "My… my wallet? You didn't.. steal it, did you?"
"STEAL it???" You were incredibly offended by the mere thought. "I know you don't know me, but seriously??"
Jungkook immediately backpedaled. "I didn't mean any offense I'm so sorry! Of course you didn't steal it. I just…"
Oh boy. Time to take another deep breath. "I found this on the sidewalk in front of a coffee shop a few streets over. I looked through it enough to realize it was yours, but I stopped as soon as recognized that, I promise. I respect your right to privacy and I don't want anything in return, just to give it back. Honestly this day has been a lot more stressful than I intended…"
Jungkook seemed a little stunned. "Nothing in return? Just like that?"
"Yes! Take it please! I had NO idea how I was going to find or contact you, so this is incredibly convenient!" You wanted this to be over and done with. NOT the ideal idol interaction.
Taking the wallet, Jungkook seemed to straighten up and almost glow with happiness. What an incredibly beautiful man… Wait no, focus.
"Thank you so much!! Really I don't know how to repay you for this."
"Honestly, getting this off my hands is thanks enough." You let out a relieved sigh. "So, uh, good luck with that meeting I guess? …Fighting!"
Jungkook did one last little awkward shuffle before ducking a bow and striding off. Maybe the meeting excuse was real and not just to evade a fan encounter. Either way. Jungkook had his wallet back, and you were freed of responsibility! Time for a sweet treat of some kind as a reward for getting through that stressful experience.
Maybe you'd go back to that coffee shop where you found the wallet? If Jungkook liked it, it was probably good.
