By Daylight

Summary:

"The Entity is such a fascinating thing."

Notes:

Hello! Welcome to By Daylight. I, uh, decided to write this while Scourge of Stars is kicking my ass. Writing that chapter in particular is difficult. I was hit by the thought of "What if he was connected to entity and could draw from it while also fighting back against the corrupting influence it has? That makes some good angst."

So here this is. The Entity is so unbelievably broke. And things get violent.

Chapter Text

“Sentient Quirks are a sort of mixed bag. They could either be extremely useful or next to useless in a practical situation. They could be exceptionally strong or devastatingly weak. Or in this case, malevolent to the core.”

The Librarian sighed.

“This is the case with Midoriya Izuku. Born with a Quirk that connects him and allows him to draw power from The Entity . Quite the interesting fellow if I do say so myself. Can’t quite hold a conversation for long however,” he leaned back in his chair before walking towards a shifting bookcase. The entire thing moved through the ceiling and floor like a conveyor belt.

“Truly a shame for the boy. Weaker minds have cracked within days, but his will is surprising given his circumstances. I can’t wait to see what kind of hero he will become or will he crack under the influence.”

Fog began to roll in as he turned around.

“I wonder.”

Chapter 2

Summary:

“A large invisibility cloak! Come on! Be my hero and hide me from that guy!” Slimeman said.

“You need to work on what you say when you do attempted murder.”

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

The Entity’s influence has been getting worse since the connection manifested. That constant buzz in the back of my head with its intentions clear. At the very least it's honest. A mutual hate I guess is the only thing we have in common.

I was able to drag The Fog into our world without its influence for a few minutes recently. Cleared some of the trash from Dagoba Beach and dropped it in Autohaven. The rate of trash coming in is essentially halted so that is nice. Less work for me. Although the rumors that spawned about the tall, hooded figure who appears at night with glowing red eyes at night are disconcerting.

Those leg things are new -

“And Midoriya you are also applying to UA, correct?” his homeroom teacher said.

All chatter ceased at that moment as each student looked over at the tallest one in the room. Whispers quickly filled it.

“He can’t be serious.” “Would they allow a villain in?” “Man, Bakugou looks livid.”

With a sigh, Midoriya closed his notebook and looked up, “I am.”

Midoriya moved his notebook off the desk as Bakugou’s hand slammed down onto the surface. A muffled explosion was let off, scorching the wood. Midoriya lazily looked him in the eye. Indifference met rage as the blonde snarled.

“ARE YOU SHITTING ME?! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING, HUH?!” Bakugou’s voice was as loud as ever.

“Bakugou, no Quirk usage in class. Midoriya, don’t aggravate your classmates. You can settle this outside of school hours.”

“Tch. This isn’t over fucker,” Bakugou huffed and slammed himself back down while Midoriya looked over at the teacher and just stared.

As Midoriya packed his notebook away, Bakugou came over with ‘Fingers’ and ‘Teeth’ as the blonde called them. He stood up towering over them. Not budging when his uniform gets grabbed.

“WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU DESERVE TO GO TO UA, HUH?!”

“I don’t ever recall it being any of your concern what I did Bakugou,” Midoriya replied lazily.

“You must think you’re so smart. You’ll never be more than anything but a villain, fucker!” He clicked his teeth and turned away. “Might as well save me the trouble when I become a hero and take a swan dive off the roof. Wish for a better Quirk in your next life.”

He rolled his eyes at the statement and walked away. On his way home he let out a very long and tired sounding sigh, “Dumbass. If the teachers were worth anything you’d have gotten a black mark on your record by now. Mm. I wonder what I should make for dinner.”

The buzz in the back of his head grew louder as he sidestepped an incoming tendril of greenish slime. Another came down, sidestep. Another, sidestep.

“A large invisibility cloak! Come on! Be my hero and hide me from that guy!” Slimeman said.

“You need to work on what you say when you do attempted murder.”

‘I wonder who he’s talking about. Oh well.’ Midoriya thought. He almost didn’t notice when the sewer cover exploded, and a large shadow moved between himself and Slimeman.

WORRY NOT CITIZEN! HE COULDN'T ESCAPE MY SIGHT FOREVER!”

“Damn it! I thought I got rid of you!” Slimeman yelled.

SMAAASH! ” The sudden burst of wind pressure flooded the underpass splattering the slime all over it. It was so strong that even behind the man he was almost knocked over.

Midoriya’s eyes widened slightly as it suddenly hit him who just came. All Might himself. The heartbeat returned to the buzz which became violent in the hero’s presence. His eye twitched at the intensity but it wasn’t anything new to him. Though he wasn’t sure why it was so violent when it came to the blonde hero. Though something was…off…about him. His eyes flashed red as a twisted crimson spiderweb enveloped All Might ’s body and blinked.

‘That’s a severe injury. I wonder what happened. Wait. He vanished from the public eye like 5 years ago for a few months. Who did he fight back then? Toxic Chainsaw? He couldn’t have done that much damage. It must have been hidden from the public eye,’ the verdette thought.

ARE YOU ALRIGHT YOUNG MAN?All Might asked, “YOU DID WELL HOLDING OUT SO LONG.”

Oh. Uh. I’m alright. Thanks for asking.”

THAT’S GOOD! NOW I MUST GET HIM TO THE LOCAL POLICE, ” he bellowed. In the blink of an eye, he vanished in a gust of wind and reappeared with two 2-liter bottles full of greenish slime.

“Hey, can I ask you a question?”

“I’M SORRY YOUNG MAN BUT CRIME WAITS FOR NO MAN!” As he prepared to launch himself away, he heard something that almost made him stop.

“At least take care of that injury.”

And in the next instance, All Might was gone.

Yagi Toshinori was many things. And he prided himself on his ability to keep a collected air about himself while on duty. To keep that reassuring smile that had become an iconic part of his persona. But when he heard the young man say that sentence, he almost deflated then and there.

He landed on a rooftop and deflated in a cloud of steam. Hacking up some blood into his hand, he quickly wiped it away as he rested for a few moments.

‘He somehow knew I was injured. When did he realize? He was wearing a middle school uniform and if he does go to one, he would have been maybe 9 or 10 years old at the time. Is it his Quirk that told him? There was that strange red light before I left. I don’t think he’d post about it or anything,’ Yagi coughed a bit more as he gripped his side. Looking around, he heard explosions pretty close by, ‘I’m out of time. I need to hurry and get this guy to the police.’

He checked his pocket to check to see if the bottles were still there.

Empty.

He checked the other side.

Empty.

Rushing to check every single pocket his pants had come up empty. Although he noticed a hole in the pocket the bottles were in. Turning towards the explosions, a trail of blood leaked from the side of his mouth.

“[Shit].”

When Midoriya heard explosions, he thought nothing of it at first, simply chalking it up to another villain attack. What caught his attention was Mt. Lady gigantified and hunched over. It must have been serious. He made his way over to see what the commotion was about. The explosions got steadily louder along with the sound of a fire.

He wasn’t expecting to see the Slimeman again. And he certainly wasn’t expecting to see a familiar pair of eyes trapped in the slime.

That explains the explosions.’ He thought.

Backdraft was trying to put out the fires caused by the explosions. Kamui Woods couldn’t do much because he was wood and would have gone up in flames. Mt. Lady was shielding the civilians who were nearby or decided to see what was happening and couldn’t fit into the alley. He wasn’t really sure what Death Arms was doing. He wouldn’t have been strong enough to pull Bakugou out, but it felt like he wasn’t even trying.

“Damn it! We can't get him out!” Death Arms yelled, “We need to wait for someone with a more suitable Quirk!”

“He won’t last that long!” Kamui Wood responded.

“I know that damnit!”

“We can’t just sit and do nothing!” Mt. Lady winced at flames made contact with her arm which Backdraft was quickly trying to put out.

All the while Midoriya was watching intently. Bakugou was slowly getting pulled inside with only the top half of his head, arms, and a chunk of his torso still exposed. Taking a look around at the crowd he spotted a faintly familiar blonde head that was a bit scraggly. Flaring his Quirk, his eyes flashed red and the familiar crimson spiderweb enveloped the man.

‘Oh.’

Turning his gaze back to the scene, Midoriya was met with a pair of red eyes with tears beginning to form which were quickly blinked away. Oh.

A light fog rolled in as his eyes were enveloped with an even harsher red light. Beneath the Slimeman chitinous spider-like legs cracked through the pavement. They moved through the slime before clawing away at the slime around the boy’s mouth. Letting him get a large gasp of air. And just as quickly as they appeared, they sank back into the fog. And as if he was never there, Midoriya was gone. This action was seen by only two people.

“What the hell was that?!” Death Arms yelled.

WORRY NOT CITIZENS! HE CAN’T ESCAPE JUSTICE NOW!”

All Might ! Damn it, I thought I got rid of you!”

YOU CAN NEVER ESCAPE JUSTICE FOREVER VILLAIN!” All Might grabbed hold of Bakugou’s arm and yanked him out, leaving the boy scrambling in his grip, “ DETROIT SMAAASH!”

The wind pressure generated from the punch not only splattered the slime over the alley, not only did it put out the fire, it forced clouds to collect together and began to rain. The crowd cheered at the display of power. Talking about the weather change.

Paramedics rushed to Bakugou in order to make sure he was okay while reporters swarmed All Might . He spoke with them briefly while his gaze was focused on where he saw the young man went. Once the smoke began to waft off of his shoulders he quickly sprinted off after asking the boy if he was okay.

It took a bit for him to find the young man from both incidents. He stood at the end of the pier at Dagoba Beach staring out over the ocean. His hands were in his pocket as he slowly turned around. The setting sun stretched his shadow over the sand which Yagi could have sworn he saw moving. Writhing was a good word for it.

His eyes seemed even more tired than last time if that was possible. Even his posture was slouched. It reminded him of a bit of Aizawa in all honesty.

Yagi walked forward a bit until he was a few feet away from him.

“Midoriya,” a puzzled expression made its way across Yagi’s face, “My name. Midoriya Izuku.”

“I see. I never did get your name,” Yagi walked forward and leaned against the wooden fence, “How did you figure it out?”

“Well under the bridge I used my quirk. A facet of it allows me to see if someone is severely injured and lights them up. Although the intensity changes based on the injury. I used it again in the crowd and the same thing appeared. Couple that with a few features that seemed familiar, well…” Midoriya shrugged, “Circumstance mixed with knowing what to look for.”

“I see…what is your Quirk exactly?” Yagi asked.

“...” The verdette looked back at the horizon in silent contemplation, “I suppose one could classify it as a Sentient Quirk but that would be an oversimplification. On paper it’s named Entity but really it is a sort of connection to it. I can draw from it and manifest constructs in our world.”

“And were those spikes one of them?”

“Yeah. Though they’re legs. I think. It’s noticeable when I use the connection hence the eye glow. It becomes harsher the stronger I make the constructs. But the connection works both ways. And that thing is malevolence embodied. We have a sort of mutual spite.”

“And what do you plan on doing?”

“Oh, I’ll be a hero. It can’t really stop me physically. These days the most it can give me is nightmares and do this static in the back of my head.” He replied instantly.

“And why do you want to be a hero…”

Midoriya looked down for a few moments. The only sound being the crashing of waves as wind began to roll in. They stood there for a few tense moments before he answered.

“It was originally because of you,” he began, “I was obsessed with watching your debut video. I wanted to be a hero like you. Be someone who could bring a smile to the people and give them hope for a better tomorrow. Then my Quirk came in. I still want to be a hero. And I’d like to still be that person. Now though spite is thrown into the mix.”

Midoriya noticed the look he received.

“You saw what me using my quirk looks like. It isn’t hard to imagine what a bunch of kindergarteners would do. People with what are considered “villainous quirks”,” He gave air quotes, “are treated only marginally better than being Quirkless. Only marginally. So that is how spite was thrown in. So, I could prove them wrong and be one.”

“It is an admirable goal.” Yagi said.

“...So why were you trying to seek me out?”

It was Yagi’s turn to be silent for a moment. Did he want to? Based on what he was told, even if summarized, it was a miracle he wasn’t driven to villainy. If he was, he wouldn’t want to think of that possibility given what he’s seen already.

“I have an offer for you.” So, he decided to take a leap of faith.

Notes:

Sorry if this was a bit fast. I had no idea as to how to write the Slime incident but here we go.

His Quirk is very very strange as to what all it can do when it comes to manifesting aspects of the trials and the Entity itself.

Let Midoriya curse.

Chapter 3

Summary:

“Honestly a bit unsettled. His is physically fit enough but his mental state is what concerns me. If what he says is true then it is nothing short of a miracle that he hasn’t snapped. I can only imagine his school life.”

Notes:

Man it's been a while hasn't it. I've been struggling with Scourge of Stars and this so its one of those things where I write some other stuff.

Chapter Text

Once Midoriya got home he felt the lightest he's been in years. He met All Might . And was somehow offered his Quirk. It honestly felt like a work of fiction at this point in his life. If it weren't for the eldritch entity in his head, he'd have thought he was dreaming. The Entity was oddly silent. The buzz was there but there wasn't any emotion. No malice.

It was a new feeling. One that unsettled him. He opted to simply put that on the back burner for now and get to cooking. His apartment was fairly simple. Nothing really extra with the exception of hero merch posted on a few walls. Some sketch paper taped up.

Drawings of various figures were on display: A man with a broken mask, a tall figure with his mouth blacked out and piercing eyes, a woman with a sack over her head in a nurse's outfit, another woman with a rabbit mask. A strange cast of characters if he had a say.

He took out a few chicken breasts, put on a pot of oil, and began dinner preparations when his phone rang. The video call function was pulled up and answered.

“Sorry I didn’t call yesterday. A case ended up taking longer than I expected so we had to stay at the office late. So how was your day, sweetie?” Midoriya Inko. His mother. A woman who he was forever grateful for.

“Not much mom. Saw the debut for Mt. Lady earlier today. She seems a bit showboaty and reckless but that could change down the line. I hope so. Also met All Might . A lot smarter than portrayed by the media,” he explained.

“Really?! I haven't had the pleasure of meeting him myself yet but he seems quite nice. I remember how much you adored the man when you were younger. The onesies. The posters,” she let out a sigh.

“No need to bring up my dark past mom. I went through the idol phase.” Sarcasm was thick in his voice as he seasoned the slices of chicken.

“What are you cooking?”

“Oh some sliced chicken, mashed potatoes, and some corn. Something quick and easy.”

“Oh that sounds nice. I’ll try to bring katsudon over in a few days with a pie. Any flavor requests?”

“Nah. Not really.”

“...I’m sorry I can’t be there for you, Izuku,” the tone she had was a lot sadder and her expression was tired.

Pausing, Midoriya looked over with a small smile, “You trying is enough mom. Love you.”

“Love you, too sweetie,” with a click, the call ended.

“You know, I never thought I’d be going to UA under this sort of context.”

It had been a week after the Sludge Incident. Turns out it wasn’t slime but a sludge. Eh. He couldn't really care less. Evidently he was getting a checkup with Recovery Girl to see where he physically stood. And gauge where he was in terms of being physically capable to receive One For All and if not, plan around that. According to Toshinori he should be capable already but better safe than sorry. He didn’t really explain why yet.

“Neither did I, Young Midoriya but it is a necessary thing. I don’t want to create a plan prematurely and it does more harm than good. Chiyo knows what she is doing.” Yagi said.

“Right. Right. Though you didn’t say why.”

“This is something that is best spoken about in person, my boy. Especially with Chiyo in the room.”

The two continued down the large hallways until they reached the nurse’s office. The halls up to that point were empty. Evidently the Hero Courses were out for classes hence why Recovery Girl was able to do her check up.

The door opened and a student stepped out. He was hunched over with his arms wrapped around his stomach. His ears were pointed and long, just barely covered by indigo hair.

“Now go sit down and rest. Drink plenty of cold water and don’t use your Quirk for the rest of today and tomorrow.” An elderly voice called out.

“Yes ma’am.” His voice was quiet and very anxiety filled as he quickly walked down the hall in the opposite direction.

“You two can come in.” she called.

As the two stepped into the room he commented how it was like looking into an alternate timeline. He couldn’t imagine being that timid.

“That was a promising second year hero student. Unfortunately some food had the wrong expiration date and caused some stomach issues. Anyway you must be Midoriya Izuku. It is a pleasure to meet you young man. Toshinori spoke quite highly of you. Although you are certainly…larger than I expected.”

“I get that a lot. A pleasure to meet you as well Recovery Girl ,” Midoriya gave a slight bow.

“You can call me Chiyo dear. Now before we do the exam, what can you tell me about your Quirk?”

“Oh. Uh. My Quirk is called Entity . It is classified as a Sentient Quirk and lets me create various constructs once the Fog it makes rolls in. My eyes glow red when I use the connection and actually illuminate the area about…eh…let's say 3 meters in a cone shape where I’m looking.”

"Does it affect you mentally?"

"Yes. Not as much as it used to but I think it's because I simply got used to it."

"Has it affected you physically?"

"I think so. Before it manifested I was smaller than average."

"Alright dearie, step over to the scale so I can get a measure of your height and weight."

He stepped onto a silver colored panel with his back flat against a metal bar. A mechanical clicking sound lasted for a few seconds before a digital beep sounded.

"Alright now I want you to hold onto this and squeeze as hard as you can without using your Quirk."

They repeated the process over a few other tests before finally sitting back down.

"Now let's see the results."

A screen flipped on with his updated medical information.

Name: Midoriya Izuku

Age: 14

Blood Type: O

Height: 7'3" (222.6 cm)

Weight: 236 lbs. (104 kg)

Grip Strength: 146 kg

"I believe he is physically fit enough to receive One For All but any Quirk testing should be done here and under my supervision. We don't know how much damage it could do to him." Chiyo stated.

"So…can someone explain to me what is going on?"

"Well, Young Midoriya, One For All has become a lot stronger than it was back when I first received it. I can say with certainty that if you were the Eighth, you would have been able to use it like I could. But I've been cultivating the power for almost 40 years now so you run the risk of severely injuring yourself."

"I see. That makes sense I guess. Wouldn't want to explode or anything. Dying like that would be humiliating."

"..."

"Your gallows humor is worrying dearie."

“Ah. Well.” He simply shrugged.

Chiyo and Yagi looked at each other before looking back at Midoriya. His own gaze flickering between the two.

“Do you think you could show us the baseline of what you can do with… Entity ? I only saw a bit myself and what you had described to me.”

Midoriya blinked before closing his eyes. Thinking. It lasted a few moments before he began slowly nodding, "I can. But not here."

"You can use Ground Beta!" A high pitched, chipper voice came from the door, "I must admit I am quite curious myself as to what your Quirk is capable of."

"I wasn't expecting you to come by Nedzu."

"Well I must meet the young man who is going to be the successor to All Might . And see just what type of person he is," Nedzu’s beady eyes locked onto emerald ones, “Are you ready now?”

Izuku nodded and stood up. Rolling his neck, the bones popped as he walked towards the door. Nedzu followed behind him leaving Chiyo and Yagi alone.

“What do you think?”

“Honestly a bit unsettled. His is physically fit enough but his mental state is what concerns me. If what he says is true then it is nothing short of a miracle that he hasn’t snapped. I can only imagine his school life.”

“Mmmm.”

The two got up and quickly followed after them.

Chapter 4

Summary:

Somewhere, Aizawa just got a migraine.

Notes:

Man it has been a minute since this one has been updated. I will try to get another chapter of this out this month but don't quote me on that.

Chapter Text

Yagi got a small glimpse of what Young Midoriya’s quirk could do at the Sludge Incident. Those spider-like appendages that move with an unnatural fluidity through the air. The strange glowing segments that illuminate the Fog. It played with the shadows in a very unsettling manner. The harsh red glow from his eyes when it was active also messed with the Fog in very strange ways.

The construct itself was no bigger than him. Nedzu asked him to show its capabilities and he did just that. It could pierce the pavement with no issue. Concrete showed the same with steel being significantly harder for it. Having to attack the same spot in quick succession to pierce. It took 7 hits. If it took 7 hits for it to go through steel and 1 to go through concrete, piercing a human body was a nonissue.

Nedzu had also put it together that Young Midoriya was the “Dagoba Cryptid” as rumors had said. The fog and eyes matched the description.

“The Fog acts as a sort of gate,” Midoriya explained, “I can send things to certain realms as it were.”

“And the junk on the beach?” Nedzu asked.

“A junkyard. Autohaven Wreckers.”

“I see. Can you pull things through?”

“No. The spider thing,” he gestured behind him towards the writhing limbs that from a certain angle almost looked like a hand, “was a recent development.”

“So recent and you have such fine control over it?” Yagi asked.

“It’s…second nature for me honestly. And I don’t know if that’s good or bad.”

The hand, hand seems like a good descriptive, collapsed into the fog. It grew thinner but was still very visible. And that feeling sent a cold shiver down his spine. Young Midoriya’s eyes were still red, so his quirk was still active.

“I see. And you said your body may be influenced by your quirk, correct?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Hmm. How curious.”

With a blink, the fog was gone, and the harsh red glow was gone. Nedzu was contemplating the use and strengths the quirk had but was still met with many unknowns. He was placed in 1-A regardless of their input.

Somewhere, Aizawa just got a migraine.

Nedzu clapped his paws together and gestured towards Yagi, “I believe it is time to pass the torch as it were.”

Yagi nodded and walked toward the boy. Plucking out a hair, he held it out toward Midoriya who grabbed it. And then ate it without a second thought. Yagi let out a booming laugh.

“You didn’t even let me explain it! My mentor had to force her hair to pass it on to me.”

“Eating hair is by no means the grossest thing I’ve experienced.”

That threw the blond off.

“...Of course it will take a bit for your system to process One For All . I’d say about three hours.”

“Will I know when?”

“I’m not sure to be honest. When I got it, it felt like a low current was going through me. Although it was considerably weaker back then. One For All manifests differently for each holder. And how it interacts with your quirk is also a mystery. You’re the first holder to have a sentient quirk.”

Midoriya flexed his hand as he processed the new information. He wasn’t sure how to feel about that. Of course, that was good to know. And he’d rather have some sort of sign that it was active than using it by accident and destroying a city block or something. He then got to thinking about what he’s seen so far about how All Might fought. About just how incredibly fast he was and the fact that he could alter the weather with a single punch.

‘If he could do all that while injured then what was his prime like?’ He thought.

“So do we just wait?”

Both Nedzu and Yagi nodded.

After about 2 and a half hours, Midoriya was suddenly hit with the sensation of being electrocuted. A new sensation that he could add to the list of new experiences although he chose to keep that remark to himself. Didn’t want to concern them about what he meant.

They immediately grabbed Recovery Girl and went back out to Ground Beta to test just what all had changed.

“Alright sonny, you know not to over do it right?” Recovery Girl said.

“I think we should see what max output does first. There may be circumstances that would require it in the future.” Yagi stated.

“I agree. Better to rip the bandaid off now than when lives are on the line.” Midoriya bluntly stated.

“Sonny…” Recovery Girl began.

“Now, now Chiyo. I must side with Midoriya and Yagi on this one. It would be best to see just what One For All could do to him,” Nedzu said while standing on Yagi’s shoulder.

The woman let out an exasperated sigh but reluctantly abstained from her objection, “You best not make a habit out of this.”

“Mhm…” was the response Recovery Girl got and it certainly didn’t fill her with confidence.

The group stood there in silence for a bit while Midoriya walked a bit forward. The area in front of him was lit red much further than before. Once the Fog rolled in the most distinct difference was that there was a slight green tint to it rather than the pale white it was before. If you’ve never seen it before, you’d never notice a difference but it was there.

Electricity arced from his right arm violently as it struck the air around it. To Yagi’s confusion, it didn’t seem to really affect the environment.

Nedzu felt his fur bristle as the Fog washed over him. While not as full of malice as before, it was still full of a distinct hatred that wasn't particularly directed at anything.

Recovery Girl felt uneasy. The feeling she got was similar to one she got back in her youth during a particular villain encounter.

Midoriya let out a breath. Raising his arm, he poured One For All into it at 100%, feeling the strain it left on his muscles and bones. And he threw his fist forward.

Yagi buffed up and held onto Nedzu and Recovery Girl as the sudden wind pressure nearly toppled them over. The street beyond them was demolished. The ground fractured and buildings collapsed as the windows around were shattered. The Fog wasn’t affected in the slightest.

Midoriya felt his bones fracture and the muscles tear from the bone. A deeply unpleasant feeling that left his arm feeling like it was on fire and turned purple in various places. His eyes returned to normal and the Fog dissipated leaving him standing there with a broken arm.

They ran up to him, Yagi powering down first. Yagi could feel the sweat go down the back of his neck at the indifferent expression his successor had despite how his arm looked.

“Fractured Radius and Ulna, burst blood vessels, dislocated shoulder, torn muscles and ligaments. Probably a few dozen others.” Midoirya’s tone portrayed no indication that he was in pain. It looked like he didn’t even blink.

“You…” Recovery Girl began, “You realize that you could have lost your arm, right sonny?”

“Eh.”

“‘Eh’!? That’s your response!?” Recovery Girl exclaimed.

“It could have been worse.”

Chapter 5

Summary:

With a simple flicker of the camera, he was gone.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Recovery Girl could already feel this upcoming year was going to be draining. With one Midoriya Izuku being the most prominent reason why. It wasn’t only due to the fact that he seems unphased by his injuries, she could already feel that he was going to be the cause of many injuries. His body was already quite strong before the introduction of One For All and according to Yagi, he could use about 20% off the bat.

At 25% it becomes too much for his body to handle and muscles start tearing. Nedzu said that with the 10 months until the Entrance Exam, the limit would go up. By how much was up for debate and it was far too early to speculate.

“My mentor’s quirk was strengthened by One For All. Since I didn’t have a quirk, I turned the stockpile into strength. What it will do for you is unknown since you’re the first with a sentient quirk.”

Those words ping-ponged back and forth within Midoriya’s mind. He didn’t bring it up at UA but he saw…something…within the Fog. Something quite strange. Figures. But their silhouettes were different from the ones he was used to. They felt more human but foreign. Was it the lack of hatred? No, there was hatred there. It was just a more righteous hatred.

Although instead of the normal campfire he’s seen in the distance, this one was more akin to a bonfire. It was confusing. If they were brought in by The Entity then may whoever bless their souls. If not, then…

Collapsing on his bed, he held out a hand. His eyes turned red and a thin veil of Fog filled the apartment. Electricity arced between his fingers. The voltage was high enough to cause the air to hum.

“This is going to be fun.”

Of course by the time the Entrance Exam rolled around, Midoriya had become a sort of rumor that spread around UA. The Management Course students had a field day with that rumor.

And 10 months is a long time in the grand scheme of things.

“Are you sure you’re okay sweetie? Do you have everything you need?”

“I do, mom,” Midoriya said. His tired expression is something that has remained constant over the months.

“I just…I just want you to know just how proud I am of you.” Inko enveloped him in a near crushing hug. She wasn’t able to really visit that often due to how much work she had to do but she just so happened to have some time off on the day of the Entrance Exam.

“I know.” He hugged her back before both of them left the apartment. They walked together towards the train station before parting ways. But not before he snuck a folded piece of paper into her purse.

No matter how many times he’s walked up to the gates of UA, he always found the scale astonishing. And something utterly strange about it. Everyone that walked passed him either didn’t notice his presence or was actively avoiding him. It was mostly the former but the number that did the latter was no small amount either.

‘Huh. Strange,’ He thought.

His musings were interrupted by someone bumping into him and the sound of them hitting the ground. Of course he didn’t move an inch. Turning around he noticed a brunette girl trying to collect herself. Crouching down, he held out a hand.

“O-Oh! I’m sorry! I didn’t notice you!” Well she was earnest. Clasping hands, he noticed her deliberately keeping a finger from touching him, he lifted her back up to her feet.

“Don’t worry about it. Happens more often than you think.” Midoriya responded.

“I’m still sorry! My name’s Uraraka Ochako!” He didn’t get to get a word in as she quickly ran off towards the main building.

‘I wonder what her quirk is.’

The written portion of the exam flew by in a flash. Pretty much skipped over really considering that some of the questions were vague and more followed along the taker’s thought process. Knowing it was Nedzu who put the test together put things in context but the stoat’s way of thinking was enigmatic and quite frankly he didn’t want to figure it out.

So now he sat in the auditorium with Bakugou sitting next to him. Thankfully for both their sakes, he seemed to ignore Midoriya’s presence. He was more focused on the format for the exam anyway.

NOW CAN I GET A ‘HEY’?!” Present Mic was as loud as ever. At the very least he didn’t need a microphone since he himself acted as one. Plus he had to feel a little bad since no one responded.

It didn’t really take long for him to start going over the whole thing. Apparently it was more combat based than anything else with each robot being worth a set amount of points. He found that kind of irksome.

He’ll vent about that at a later date though.

Scratching his neck, Midoriya looked around at the other exam participants, taking note of everyone who was there.

‘There is Uraraka. The glasses guy,’ another examinee caught his eye, ‘The hell is he looking at?’

Apparently there was a camera he hadn’t noticed and the blonde examinee was looking straight at it. Odd.

“- YOU READY?!” “GO!”

There was audible confusion in the crowd.

THERE AREN’T ANY COUNTDOWNS IN REAL LIFE! GO! GO! GO!

What followed was the mass of people rushing towards the site entrance. Some were faster than others while others seemed to simply try and get there first by any means necessary. Of course the only one who was left behind was Midoriya who was staring back at the tunnel that brought them here.

“It seems we have a straggler on our hands.” Vlad King said.

“Is there something down there we need to be concerned about?” Midnight asked, “He hasn’t moved for a solid two minutes.”

Yagi had to suppress the urge to smirk as the rest of the teachers were discussing Midoriya’s actions or rather lack thereof. His and Nedzu’s gazes met out the corner of their eyes.

“Do you think-” Thirteen’s voice was cut short as a cloud of fog enveloped not only the outside of the site gate but over half of the site itself.

They all felt a sudden chill down their spines as Midoriya’s head turned towards the camera. The feed went fuzzy but they felt as if he was simply watching them. Yagi and Nedzu knew the limits of how the Fog worked so far. But the feeling they got when his quirk was active left this feeling of dread and hopelessness when they met his eyes. Like every failure they’ve made returned full force. Simply the feeling.

With a simple flicker of the camera, he was gone.

Notes:

Happy Halloween!

I'm surprised I was able to finish this chapter. I hope how I want Izuku to be portrayed comes across. But this is where things really start to kick off and why he warrants the name I've given him.

:)

Chapter 6

Summary:

“Are we sure he hasn’t broken the rules?” he asked.

Notes:

Hello! Hi! Been a while, ay? Sorry it took so long to get a new chapter out. College and work together have been a bitch for muse.

Can anyone tell me all of the Killers used so far?

Chapter Text

Shinso Hitoshi was confused when that weird fog suddenly enveloped the area he was in. It didn’t obstruct his vision in any way but it was still very clearly there. But he paid it no mind as he was currently trying to destroy a robot by sneaking up on it. Paid no mind to the fact that the fog seemed to be breathing .

When he was about to stab upwards with a piece of rebar, he was smacked to the side and bounced off the pavement. He hadn’t noticed a bot come up behind him. And god did his side hurt. Looking up, he saw the glowing lenses of a 3 Pointer staring down at him.

And in the next instant it was flattened by what from his perspective might as well have been a giant. They were quite frankly massive. Their face was shadowed over but their eyes illuminated the ground in front of them. A bright, crimson red that played with the fog. Made it seem alive

Seconds felt like an eternity before the figure vanished and appeared on top of the second bot. Arm raised before being brought down on its neck. Sparks flew as its head was severed completely off.

Shinso heard what he thought was an “oops” before they rocketed off and vanished over a building. He wasn’t quite so sure what to think. Then he saw something glowing embedded in the hull of the decapitated robot. Walking towards it, was a glowing hilt of a knife.

“The hell…”

Vlad King wasn’t quite so sure about the weapons the green haired kid seemed to have.

“Are we sure he hasn’t broken the rules?” he asked.

“I don't think so Vlad. He pulled those things out of that fog and when he was done they dissolved.”

“Just what is his quirk anyway. So far I’ve seen what coulda’ been four different quirks in there.” Snipe added.

“He’s also been specifically going after robots further away from other participants. And takes out the ones that start overwhelming others. But the other participant, Shinso, was it? Midoriya intervened directly and left a usable weapon behind. Do they know each other?” Power Loader questioned. Keeping an eye on others who also applied for the Support course.

“He can ‘feel’ everything that happens in the Fog. He must have felt something about Young Shinso was off and was trying to even the playing field as it were.” Yagi responded. Which surprised Aizawa even though he didn’t seem phased.

Aizawa had seen a lot of things during his work Underground. A lot of subtle non flashy quirks slip through the cracks of hero schools and some turn to villainy. He’s seen his fair share of fights and has seen quite a few exams by this point. But two examinees caught his eye.

One was a purple haired kid who had a nonphysical quirk.

The other was a green haired kid who’s quirk was one of the hardest to describe.

First there was the fog. Then the glowing eyes that seemed to go along with it. When he stood still, he could seemingly teleport. He could pull weapons out of the fog. Snipe wasn’t wrong when he said it could have been four different quirks.

He also noticed that Nedzu didn’t take part in the discussion.

Midoriya could barely stand the buzzing in the back of his head as he moved. Keeping the Fog up this long was always annoying when the prick got testy about the connection. Of course he couldn’t care less about what the thing thought. Mutual hate.

Pressing a hand against a wall, barbed wire punctured through it and wrapped around bots on the other side. He hadn’t noticed any of the other participants go into the buildings, only focusing on the ones in the streets. Of course if there weren’t openings left in the buildings, he wouldn’t have bothered with them either.

He’d have to thank PH for the barbed wire thing later. Not like he’d get a response other than a nod but oh well.

THREE MINUTES REMAINING!”

Present Mic’s voice carried over the testing area with relative ease and blotted out the sounds of combat. And immediately most of the examinees rushed to try and find more points. Midoriya didn’t though. He simply Blinked to the top of a building and watched, keeping the Fog active.

“2 hours and 10 minutes. Just shy of the record,” He could feel the Entity clawing at the back of his mind, “Fuck off.”

Then the ground started rumbling. The entire site felt like it was shaking as he suddenly felt something massive enter the Fog.

“And that is what you call an obstacle?” He asked no one in particular, “It’s things like this that make me question your sanity.”

He blinked down back to the streets to see the rest of the participants running past him back towards the entrance to the site. Except for one. Turning towards the Zero Pointer, he saw one of the other participants pinned by a chunk of debris.

‘She must have exhausted her quirk,’ Midoriya thought.

He started walking towards her before charging up another Blink. The other participant’s felt off as he passed by them. The pinned girl unconsciously shivered as Midoriya materialized next to her, unphased by the kaiju of a machine a couple of meters away now.

“You okay?”

She jumped as she hadn’t noticed him before he said anything, “I-I think my leg is sprained!”

He nodded and dug his fingers into the chunk of debris and lifted it. He found it surprisingly light compared to standard concrete. He held out a hand which she took and pulled her out.

“Wh-What about the Zero Pointer?! We can’t outrun it!”

“We won’t need to.”

Midoriya’s eyes glowed a harsher red and the static in the back of his mind skyrocketed in intensity. The fog grew denser around the Zero Pointer and large spider-like limbs shot out and wrapped around the thing’s body. The sound it gave off as it tried to fight off against the sudden shackles was akin to a can getting crushed. The limbs tightened around it before a massive one pierced its head.

And then the horn signaling the end of the exam sounded. He immediately let go of the connection and sat down as a colossal wave of Exhaustion hit him. Feeling something wet above his mouth, he wiped at it and pulled his hand back. It was blood. A nose bleed.

‘So that must be Hemorrhage .”

“...Recovery Girl! She is why UA can do such exams as this.”

His focus came back in as the flamboyant blonde exposited. No one seemed to be paying attention.

When she came up to him, they locked eyes. She gave him some gummies and carried on.

Chapter 7

Summary:

“Young Midoriya, when all is said and done, how strong do you think you’ll become?”

Notes:

Be sure to let me know what you think!

Chapter Text

When the Vestiges woke up from the transfer, they were confused. The plane they usually inhabited had been changed. Their thrones were still present but the room was broken and in the middle was a campfire. There seemed to be a very clear line in the fog that surrounded them, they inhabited a pale green which seemed to clash with a more off white fog. And the clash was violent.

Fifth got up from his seat and walked over towards the divide. As he got closer, he felt a chill go up his spine that grew in intensity. The fire seemed to blow towards him.

“Where the hell are we?” Fifth asked.

“I’m not sure…our place shouldn’t have been able to change this drastically.” First said.

“Anyone else see that light in the distance?” Sixth, asked?

The light he was referring to flickered much the same way the fire before them did. But the feeling it gave off, if one could even call it that, was more akin to mockery.

“I wouldn’t get too far away from the fire if I were you.”

The holders jumped at the sudden intrusion. A familiar voice that seemed to come from inside their heads.

“Ninth?” Seventh asked.

“Oh right. I supposed you can’t see me.”

On the empty throne, Midoriya seemed to materialize from the fog. His eyes appeared to be more sunken and his skin was paler. His hair was also more of a mossy green.

“You must be the previous holders. I supposed I should welcome you to the Dark Fog. Not the nicest of places but it’s a place,” he gave a shrug and leaned back onto the throne.

“Where is this?” First asked, “ One For All’s world shouldn’t have been altered this much.”

“Ah. This is a separate dimension altogether. Made by the Entity. Old as hell too. Much older than our world. Doesn’t exactly play by our rules.”

“Hold on. Hold on. I thought your quirk was the entity thing.” Fifth stated, now backing away from the divide.

“No. My quirk itself is the connection between the two of us. How or why that’s the case, I don’t know. I doubt I’ll ever really know to be honest,” Midoriya let out a sigh, “Although One For All boosted the connection.”

“How?”

“There is a lot more power in it than you thought. The connection would have gotten to this point regardless but the stockpiled energy kickstarted a chain reaction. The connection will continue to grow.”

“What’s with the other fog?” Second asked.

“That’s the Entity.”

Midoriya stood at the edge of the beach letting the water flow over his feet. The sun began to set and a light mist began to roll in. Roughly a week has passed since the UA Entrance Exam. He knew ahead of time he’d get in. That wasn’t much of an issue. It was by how much that was concerning.

136 points.

Beating All Might by 6.

Of course Nedzu didn’t mention just how easily it would have been to double it at the very least but that went without saying.

Unfortunately the other examinee he gave the knife to just missed the requirement to join the hero course. It was a shame but he was going to be in the General Course so he had an opportunity in the Sports Festival. Midoriya just hoped that he worked on himself a bit more.

“Young Midoriya! I hope I didn’t keep you waiting for too long!”

Turning to the side he watched as Yagi trudged his way through the sand towards him.

“You didn’t.”

Yagi stopped next to him and the two stood in silence for a bit.

“How much can you control now?” Yagi asked.

“About 45% give or take. It’s slowed down by a substantial amount. Which I have a theory about but it’s enough for the time being.”

“That is still a hefty bit, Young Midoriya. Don’t ever forget that.” Yag placed a hand on his successor’s shoulder. “You said there was something important for me to hear.”

Midoriya looked around before his eyes flickered red and the glow sustained. Of the bat, Yagi could tell there was something different about the Fog. It was…strange. Even more so when it started thickening around the two of them.

“How much do you know about OFA ? As a quirk I mean, not its history.” The greenette asked.

“Not much I’m afraid. Aside from its transferability and stockpiling, the history is all I know.” Yagi shook his head.

“That makes sense I guess. A transferable stockpile is still pretty much unheard of in this day and age. But I have another question for you,” Midoriya turned towards the hero fully. Glowing red eyes peering into sunken blue. “Was it only the strength stockpiled?”

The tone made Yagi falter.

“Over this past week I had a very interesting meeting. It didn’t just stockpile strength. It stockpiled the users themselves.”

If it had come from anyone else, Yagi would have been angry at the suggestion. The gall it would take to make such a claim. But this was Midoriya Izuku. Not just his successor but he held a quirk that no one could properly quantify.

“If you don’t believe me…” He tilted his head to the side a bit, “Shimura didn’t really stick to a hero name for long until she met you. And you gave her the name Cloud Nine . It was what she went by up until her death.”

That was a blow Yagi would have never expected. Even Torino, who was his mentor’s closest friend, didn’t know why she started calling herself Cloud Nine .

“W-Wha-”

“I’m not sure how it works to be honest. But their vestiges are safe. As long as they remain within my Fog, the Entity won’t be able to grab them.”

With that, Yagi clenched his jaw.

“What do you mean, Young Midoriya?”

“The Entity manipulates souls. It’s how it keeps its games going for so long. And the vestiges are just that. The remains of a soul that kept going. That’s enough for it,” the greenette let out a sigh, “Enough for it to make them a part of its games. There is no real fighting back. Only survival in them.”

“Is that what happened to the people you draw?”

“Oh them? Yeah. Survivors and Killers. Some of the Killers wanted to be a part of the games. Like the Shape or Trickster. Others were manipulated or are forced to be a part of them. The Trapper and the Wraith. Just to name a few. My favorite is the Executioner. He doesn’t like the Entity like me.” A wide smile spread across Midoriya’s face. One Yagi found off putting. And just as quickly it appeared, it was gone.

“But yeah. The previous holders. I think I’ll be able to do something with them but I can’t pull much out in terms of living things yet.”

“Young Midoriya, when all is said and done, how strong do you think you’ll become?”

He didn’t get a response.

Chapter 8

Notes:

Hello all.

It's been a while hasn't it. Trying to finish the chapter was a pain in the ass. Coupled with a lot of IRL stuff, man. I hope you enjoy it.

Chapter Text

Nedzu sat at his desk, lit cigarette in paw, staring out the window in contemplation. He had called Yagi up to his office because he had a very concerning discussion with the mother of one Midoriya Izuku. The discussion did shed some light on some of the more concerning behavior.

Evidently the blonde had spoken to Midoriya the day prior so he also had some rather concerning news to discuss on his end.

A beep sounded from his computer that let him know Yagi was close. He had prepared some tea ahead of time so he put out his cigarette and moved over to the pair of sofas he had.

When Yagi came through the door he looked more sullen. Which was a feat considering his already emaciated appearance. When Yagi sat down, the two sat in silence for a few moments taking sips of tea.

“It seems we have much to discuss regarding your successor, Yagi.” Nedzu began.

“He should still be accepted into UA.” Yagi stated.

“Oh I agree. His acceptance was never going to be an issue. But considering the discussion I had with his mother we should consider ourselves lucky he went down the path he did. It also put certain behavioral tics I noticed into context.”

“I see…” Yagi paused. “We discussed a bit more about his quirk and its…properties.”

Nedzu pressed a button on the side of the couch and a quiet hum filled the office. A security measure he had installed when he became principal. The chimera gave the blonde a nod.

“There was a lot more to One For All than we thought previously. According to Young Midoriya, it doesn’t just stockpile strength. It…” He took in a shaky breath, “also stockpiles the holders.”

That threw Nedzu for a loop but he didn’t show it. Opting to simply blink as he worked through the information.

‘If it stockpiles the users, what else is on the table? Their quirks? It’s possible but this is uncharted territory. How would that work with Midoriya’s quirk? What would be stockpiled in his case?’

“If the other holders are stockpiled, what would that mean for his quirk?”

“He told me that his quirk is partitioned to a degree. The holders are in his part and are safe from the Entity’s influence. As long as they don’t leave it.”

“I suppose that is good news.”

The two sat in silence before they began what they knew was going to be a rather heavy topic.

“Please come in!” Nedzu exclaimed.

The door slowly opened and in poked one Midoriya Inko. The mother of the enigma that is Midoriya Izuku. Upon closer inspection the two look startlingly alike. If Izuku had a shade lighter green, the two could have been indistinguishable from each other.

Well aside from the sunken eyes and perpetually tired expression the boy had.

Inko also had eye bags and looked a bit disheveled but retained a professional air about her. Though she was a lawyer in Tokyo so it was to be expected to some degree.

“Y-You wanted to see me, Principal Nedzu?” she asked as she fully entered the office.

“Yes, yes! Please have a seat,” he gestured towards the empty chair across from him which she took.

She rubbed her hands together slowly.

“Just to let you know Ms. Midoriya, this conversion will be recorded for documentation purposes and as an aid for faculty members who will be working with your son to get a better understanding of how he functions. You are not the only parent that we will be doing this with as there are other students in the heroics program that this will also be a necessary action.”

“I understand.”

“Now, Ms. Midoriya, what can you tell me about your son?”

A somber smile spread across the woman’s face.

“My son wanted to be a hero for as long as he could understand what that word meant. When he was younger he used to dress up in his All Might onesie and I’d play whatever role he wanted. Ah and he had such fascination with quirks. He used to have these journals where he wrote about quirks he’s seen,” she paused. “Then his quirk came in.”

“Ah yes. His sentient quirk.”

“‘Quirk’ is too kind for that…thing. After it came in…he stopped sleeping. Eating. He couldn’t keep any food down. It showed him awful things. Things that no child, no one, should ever see. And it only got worse.”

She took a shaky breath.

“One night, I heard a noise next to me in my bedroom. Hisashi was still asleep but then I saw a red light. And then I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder that woke me up completely. My son had…stabbed me,” she clenched her fist which trembled, “Hisashi woke up to my screaming and pulled me out the way before the knife came back down. Izuku was…faster. Stronger than he should have been at that age but his movement was unnatural. Like a puppet on strings. Hisashi wrestled the knife out of his hands but during the struggle Izuku hit his head on the corner of a dresser. We all went to the hospital and they had to put quirk suppressors on him.”

The story visibly startled Nedzu as he thought deep on the information he was just given.

“From what Midoriya told me, quirk suppressors don’t work that well if at all.”

“He’s right. From how he described it, it was like stuffing a leak full of cardboard. It helped at first but the leak eventually tears its way through and comes back full force. Eventually they used quirk suppressors shy of those used in Tartarus but they didn’t last either.”

“That is rather unfortunate to hear.”

Nedzu made a note of that. If quirk suppressors just shy of the highest grade didn’t work, what if his quirk was erased entirely?

“His nightmares eventually grew more vivid. Vivid enough to where he could draw what he saw from memory. Every year or so he drew new people. ‘Survivors and Killers’ as he called them. It eventually became too much for his father to take and he had a heart attack one night.”

“That must have been difficult for the two of you.”

“It was. Izuku took it the hardest. And I couldn’t just…leave him. Not when he needed me. So I stayed and I tried to be there for him as best I could.”

Nedzu couldn’t help but imagine what would have happened if she had left. Midoriya was intelligent. A tactician. And from the tests that were conducted on his quirk prior to receiving One For All, Japan maybe the world itself would have been at risk.

Because as Midoriya put it, the connection would have grown to the point it did during the Entrance Exam regardless. The process was simply accelerated.

Yagi sat there in contemplation. His eyes were completely obscured by shadows. He couldn’t help but think about his successor’s wellbeing. The blonde knew he was troubled. But he didn’t realize it was to this degree.

And he couldn’t help but involuntarily shudder at the thought of All For One stumbling across Young Midoriya. Twisting him and dragging him into evil.

“I say that we must consider ourselves very fortunate for his mother, Yagi.”

“I can’t help but agree.”

Chapter 9: First Day

Summary:

Strange

Notes:

Man it has been a while! Sorry this took so long and not a lot happened. IRL stuff got insane and I lost all motivation to write. I don't know when the next chapter will be but I hope it won't be as big a gap.

Chapter Text

Midoriya wasn’t nervous. That was a feeling he didn’t really get any more. If he did, he’d be sweating buckets as he walked towards the 1A classroom. The hallways were fairly crowded since it was the first day but he’s walked these hallways plenty of times now. Plus everyone just seemed to not notice his presence.

He stood in front of the door and let out a quiet sigh. While the Hero Classrooms were noise suppressed, there was one voice he knew wouldn’t be kept quiet.

Sliding the large door open, he simply stared at one Bakugou Katsuki with his feet on a desk in an argument with someone he could only assume was related to Ingenium in some way. He didn’t particularly care but he did find someone their age not kissing the blonde’s ass amusing.

Unfortunately his seat was still behind him.

‘Oh how the universe mocks me so.’ Midoriya thought sarcastically. He could feel the Entity in the back of his mind, finding amusement. ‘Yeah, yeah, laugh it up.’

He took his seat quietly before leaning back and staring at the door. One more student came in, it was the girl he met at the Entrance Exam. She stopped for a second before continuing to her seat. And then he noticed a large yellow lump just outside the door. So he just watched it. No one else seemed to notice.

“If you’re here to play around then leave.”

The class started to quiet down at that and turned toward the doorway where the voice came from. The lump opened and out climbed a slightly disheveled man in a black jumpsuit and a startling amount of white cloth wrapped around his neck like a scarf.

“It took 8 seconds for you all to quiet down. Not rational enough.” He looked around the room for a second, his eyes snapping back to Midoriya. “My name is Aizawa Shouta and I will be your homeroom teacher.” He pulled out a gym uniform. “Put these on and head to the athletic field.”

Aizawa prided himself in his ability to remain vigilant when he was working. But when he was observing the class, he almost didn’t notice Midoriya’s presence at all. He had to go back and specifically look for him to register his presence. And that Midoriya was staring right at him the entire time.

Everything about Midoriya was strange. The utter lack of presence he has despite his stature would typically only be possible for those with a stealth related quirk or those who trained for that explicit purpose.

And when he looked Midoriya in the eyes it was almost like looking in the mirror. The perpetual exhaustion. Someone who had seen too much too soon. But at the same time, when their eyes met, it felt like he was being picked apart. It felt like the Entrance Exam all over again but the feeling was worse.

Aizawa doesn’t look too deeply into a student’s record until after he does his test. Only looking for red flags or extenuating circumstances to stay his judgment. And Midoriya was one of the few where he read the whole thing before the term started. To say it was full of red flags was an understatement.

Allegations of assault, disorderly conduct, destruction of school and private property, public quirk use, just to name a few. But despite that, there were no black marks on his record whatsoever.

Then there was the situation with All Might seeming to know about him.

So when he walked towards the athletic field, he caught the titular Number One discussing something with Nemuri.

“I hope you know we will be discussing Midoriya later, All Might .” Aizawa stated as he walked past.

OH!” All Might ’s face, remaining in its toothy grin, seemed to grow tighter. “ I agree, Aizawa! I agree… ” His voice trailed off before continuing his prior conversation.

Once he got to the field, it was simply a waiting game.

Midoriya trailed a bit behind his classmates, each were in some form of conversation with another with exception to a few. Bakugou, Tokoyami, and Jiro. Bakugou was in front, which didn’t surprise him in the least. Jiro was with some of the other girls but didn’t really join in. And Tokoyami was closest to him, arms crossed.

Though funny enough, Tokoyami’s quirk, Dark Shadow was out and looking directly at him. He found it amusing. It moved closer and gave his chest a tentative poke. At which his eyes flashed red, causing the Sentient Quirk to dart back to its wielder and curl around his shoulder, still staring at him.

Funny.
