Work Text:
“Pull your hood off, for Heaven’s sake!”
“No way! Someone might recognize me, and I don’t need that.”
“It’s been seven years, Wright,” Edgeworth pointed out coolly. “They won’t even recognize me, and I used to work here.” He walked to the receptionist’s desk and tapped the polished surface. “The keys to office-”
“1202, right! Welcome home, Mr. Edgeworth!” The receptionist beamed at him, handing over the keys. “It’s been a while!”
“Mmyes, indeed. Thank you.” Edgeworth turned around and rolled his eyes at Phoenix’s shit-eating grin. “Fine, point taken. Let’s go.”
Phoenix nodded and targeted the stairs, however, his friend held him back. “There have been some renovations in the building, and currently, they’re repainting the staircase, which is a rather unsafe practice in the middle of the day, but alas. We’ll have to take the elevator.”
“And- You’re okay with that?” Phoenix covertly touched Edgeworth’s arm. He clearly remembered his old friend’s dislike of tight, cramped spaces. “Miles.”
Edgeworth tipped his chin up. “It’s been a good while. I got better about this, too. I can handle it on my good days.”
“And today is a good day?” Phoenix asked softly, with a small smile. He knew well what Edgeworth meant - the therapy sessions started back in the days while he was choosing and rejecting death, and they continued to this day, very discreetly. And they did help a lot. Even Phoenix had visited that shrink, and he benefited from it.
Edgeworth glanced at Phoenix, who pulled the hood deeper into his face, blushing faintly at what he had seen in those lovely silver eyes. “Okay. Okay, wow, tone it down.” He still chuckled as they entered the cab where he finally shook his hood back. “Man, it’s great to have you here, back in the office! Though, I hope that when you make it to Chief Prosecutor, they’ll give you a place that doesn’t require five minutes of climbing to access.”
“Here’s hoping.” Edgeworth nodded. Phoenix noticed that he was grabbing the railing and his knuckles were white, despite all claims of being alright.
“So, how are we going to rig the system?”
“We’re not rigging the system, Wright,” Edgeworth declared, not letting go of the rail, but his eyes were clear as he gave Phoenix an exasperated look. “We’ll find a diverse selection of unbiased citizens - except for you - and we’ll let them decide about the verdict. We did everything in our might to implement this practice, compromising it would negate the work of seven years, and I’m fairly sure that you wouldn’t w-”
The elevator lurched and stopped. Edgeworth immediately grabbed the railing with his other hand as well.
“What’s happening?” he inquired, voice quiet and unnaturally calm.
“It’s okay, I’m sure it’s just a momentary malfunction,” Phoenix replied, moving closer. “It’s going to resolve itself. They did maintenance on the elevators as well, didn’t they?”
“Yes, and they upgraded the system.” Miles nodded, taking deep, calming breaths. “The… elevators were down for a few days… People were pissed. I didn’t even notice until lunchtime.”
“I can understand both of those sentiments.” Phoenix nodded. He kept chatting, asking questions, trying to keep Edgeworth’s focus on himself, but the minutes crawled by and nothing happened.
“Test the doors,” Edgeworth pointed out the button. “Maybe that’s the problem and opening them will solve it. Be very careful.” Sweat was beading on his temples.
Phoenix tried the suggested solution. It yielded no results. Thankfully, the cab was fitted with all the modern safety measures, which included a line to the front desk.
“Reception? We appear to be stuck in the elevator, think you could send someone to fetch us?”
“I’m afraid that’ll have to wait.” The receptionist sounded resigned. “All elevators are currently stopped, we are investigating the problem, but it might take a while… Please sit tight and do not, under any circumstances, try to get out of the cab!”
“What about air supply?” Edgeworth’s voice was breathless already.
“Air supply-?” The receptionist was clearly confused for a moment, then the penny dropped. “Ah, that’s no concern. The cabs are fitted with ventilators, airflow is continuous, don’t worry about that.”
“Okay, we’ll be sitting tight,” Phoenix confirmed. “Though, please do hurry, someone here might need medical attention if we’ll have to wait for long.”
“We’ll be doing our best! Please hold on!”
“Right.” Phoenix took a deep breath and slowly rested his hand on Edgeworth’s clammy ones. “It’s going to be alright. We’ll be fine. I know that you’re anxious, but we’ll be fine. It won’t take long.”
Edgeworth closed his eyes and swallowed. “My mind… will wander if you stop talking. Help me focus.”
“Uuh.” Phoenix bit his lower lip. He could ramble all day about nothing, but naturally, nothing sprang to mind when the situation demanded it. Well, except maybe-”
“So, were you planning anything today, aside from discussing the last stages of the plan? That look you gave me felt suggestive.”
“Well…” Edgeworth couldn’t help a small smile. “Maybe. Maybe. It’s been a while since I last had the opportunity to kiss you.”
“A month and a half, right…? Your triumphant return involved a lot of meetings and talks and annoying little tasks. Not a wonder I’ve been feeling so restless lately, that was the last time you fucked me, too.”
“God, Wright.” Edgeworth rolled his eyes. “Must you be so crass?”
“Alright, alright, Mr. Refined Taste. I can be less crass.” Phoenix moved closer. “Can I touch you?”
After a brief hesitation, Edgeworth nodded. Phoenix promptly hugged him from behind.
“I missed you so much,” he murmured into Edgeworth’s collar. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Edgeworth replied quietly but immediately. “This time, neither one of us is going anywhere.”
“Not with the doors stuck, anyway,” Phoenix chuckled and nuzzled Edgeworth’s nape. “Thank you for everything. You’ve done so much for me. For us. You are a wonderful man, and I’m glad you warmed up to Trucy.”
“She isn’t hard to like,” Edgeworth murmured. “I have dealt with plenty of children, and at least she never intentionally got into trouble. Unlike someone else I know…”
“Now listen, it’s not my fault that I don’t speak Italian, okay? And besides, the look on the archeologist’s face when you spoke up in Latin was priceless.”
The memory was actually hilarious, and under normal circumstances, Edgeworth would have laughed, but right now, all he could muster was a short chuckle. “I’m glad we managed to spend time together and I’m glad you’re here with me, now. Please keep talking.”
“You know- I have no idea if this’ll work, but let me try something.” Phoenix gently pried Edgeworth’s hands off the railing and turned him around, so they were facing each other; then immediately curled his arms around Miles. “It’s okay. I can't go anywhere, and I wouldn’t even try. I’ll be here for you just like you were there for me.” He leaned closer, slowly, to give Edgeworth time to protest, but there was none. Their lips met, softly at first, then Miles threw his arms around Phoenix’s shoulder and they were kissing for real, after so long.
Phoenix could practically taste fear and desperation on Miles’ tongue. He was rarely this passionate, not when they weren’t having sex, but right now, he was very probably trying to drown out the intrusive thoughts by trying to drown in Phoenix’s mouth.
It had quite the effect on Phoenix. Edgeworth generally had an effect on him when he wasn’t half a world away and even then, thanks to modern telecommunication, sometimes he managed to make Phoenix hot and bothered. And if it was in any way helpful, why waste the opportunity and a perfectly good boner?
Phoenix pressed closer, pinning Edgeworth to the wall, and rolled his hips, so the other could feel the hardness barely concealed by the loose sweatpants.
Miles gasped and squirmed; he had nowhere to flee. “S-Seriously, Wright? Aroused already?”
“Bold of you to assume that I’m not a little aroused every time I’m around you,” Phoenix murmured affectionately. “I will never not desire you.” He pressed his lips against Edgeworth’s jawline, kissing and nuzzling.
“Flatterer…” Miles murmured and his hips involuntarily shifted forward a little. “But- Here? Anyone could see… Who knows when they’ll fix the problem…”
“We’ll just have to be quick about it,” Phoenix soothed. “Don’t worry. It’s a long ride to the top floor and the doors don’t yield easily. If we look disheveled, that’s understandable, it was a scary situation.” He smirked when he noticed that Edgeworth wasn’t unaffected by the slow grinding. “I’ll let you do things to me later.”
“What are you planning?” Edgeworth demanded. “And what things?”
“Just a quickie; we’re not home after all.” Phoenix pulled back so he could open Edgeworth’s pants. “A little rubbing. The cab is getting aired, and I have tissues, so you don’t have to worry about anything.” He paused. “So, will that be alright?”
“I think it will be.” Edgeworth nodded, glancing away. “You make convincing arguments.”
“Still, stop me if it’s too much,” Phoenix murmured as he slipped his hands under the fabric of the trousers, so he could push them down. He kneeled as he tugged them further off, first pressing his face against Edgeworth’s crotch, nuzzling and mouthing at the developing bulge, delighting in the soft panting coming from above. He slowly pried off the underwear as well, giving the flushed erection a long, slow lick before standing up. He made quick work of the sweatpants, then pressed closer. He couldn’t keep down a moan.
Edgeworth replied in kind; ever since they managed to choke out their respective confessions, it felt like all the bottled-up tension, affection, and sexual frustration of the years was pouring out of them, seizing every opportunity of release. The place and situation ceased to matter - there were only the two of them, eager, madly in love, and close, so, so very close. The railing digging into his backside failed to register, but he was keenly aware of Phoenix’s lips on his own and the wonderful friction as their erections rubbed, trapped between their stomachs.
“Miles,” Phoenix panted. “God, you feel so good. You okay?”
“Yes,” Edgeworth breathed. “I’m fine… K-Keep going.”
“Yeah… Y’know… Once you get the fancy new office… I want to get under your desk and keep your cock warm while you file reports.”
Edgeworth’s breath hitched.
“Then I want to strip naked while you watch and I want you to fuck me, still fully dressed.”
“Hnnghh…! Yes… I c-can be amenable to that…!”
“You take such good care of me.” Phoenix grinned and gave his lover a deep, slow kiss; then he pulled back, but only far enough so he could slip a hand between them, to grab both cocks - they weren’t trying to drag this out, after all.
Edgeworth, at this point, just threw caution to the wind and let Phoenix do whatever he wanted. The physical sensation and the mental images of them defiling his workspace were enough to keep his brain occupied, and he wasn’t keen on it all getting derailed; so he grabbed the railing again, this time for support, and thrust into Phoenix’s expert hand.
The expert also fished a tissue from his hoodie’s pocket, to keep the stains from Edgeworth’s immaculate shirt. He knew that he would never hear the end of it if he let that happen, and Edgeworth was mean enough to revoke cocksucking rights, which would have been unacceptable.
Besides, he actually cared. Phoenix knew well how his beloved fussed about a perfect appearance still, and he didn’t want to tease him, especially not now when their plans reached the final stage and Edgeworth had to think about securing votes for the prosecutorial election. That was a lot of stress, and this situation didn’t make it any easier, so Phoenix didn’t want to add even more tension. At least, not the bad kind. He adjusted his grip and sped up, chasing both of them towards fulfillment.
Edgeworth bit his lip as his head tipped back; he was close, so close already, everything was hazy and warm and - oddly enough, joyous, but what else could it have been when he was with the man he loved? Phoenix, bless his heart, cared so deeply for everyone he loved and provided whatever they needed - in his particular case, a welcome distraction. And he was so thoughtful, too! Edgeworth swallowed.
“Kiss me. Phoenix. Please.”
“Sure thing, babe.” Phoenix leaned close, not stopping what he was doing, and slipped his tongue into his lover’s mouth as deep as he could.
Edgeworth came right then.
He shuddered through his orgasm, eyes closed, moaning into Phoenix’s mouth. His knees trembled but held, and his lover wasn’t done, anyway, keeping him upright with his own body. Edgeworth slid his arms around Phoenix’s shoulders and made a few noises, communicating that he was feeling pretty good, though the continued friction was going to get uncomfortable soon and Phoenix better hurry.
Thankfully, by now, Phoenix was pretty well-versed in interpreting Edgeworth noises. He chuckled and his hand sped up. He didn’t need much more; in just another minute, he gasped and came as well. He let himself enjoy the glow for a little while, then unceremoniously dropped the soaked tissue and curled his arms around Edgeworth’s waist.
There was no other noise than their breathing and the low hum of electricity as the fan worked to keep the air fresh. It simply felt good to relax in an embrace even with their pants around their ankles. They nibbled on each other’s lips with a tenderness they would have denied in any other situation but in the moments after a damn satisfying orgasm, cuddling close, it felt natural.
“You good?” Phoenix whispered, his hand moving in slow circles over Edgeworth’s waist.
“Yeah,” Edgeworth replied. “Thank you. Would you mind… redressing me?”
“Heh, of course not.” Phoenix pulled out another tissue and wiped himself down before yanking his boxers and pants back up. Then, he went down on his knees and gently cleaned off the few drops that still clung to Edgeworth as well. He gave the softened penis an affectionate kiss and proceeded to fix his lover’s attire.
Just as he pulled the zipper up, the elevator hummed up loudly and began to move, ascending towards the right floor.
“Oh hey!” Phoenix said cheerfully. “That was fast. Looks like we’ll get other things done today.” He flashed a grin at Edgeworth. “Maybe we should do this again, later. Something-something exposure therapy.”
Edgeworth mulled that over. “Getting stuck with you in an elevator on a regular basis would be… exhausting.”
“You don’t worry about things when unconscious.” Phoenix balled up the used tissues and sank them into his pocket. “I’m glad it worked, I wasn’t sure if it would.”
Edgeworth chuckled. “It was a delightful discovery for sure.”
“You know what?” Phoenix elbowed him. “Let’s indeed try it again the next time you’re nervous. Or stressed.” He wiggled his brows.
“You’re insufferable.”
“You wouldn’t love me half as much if I weren’t,” Phoenix replied over the ding and gave a bright, reassuring smile to the concerned maintenance crew as the doors slid open.
