Chapter 1: This has to be a lame dad joke. Right?

Chapter Text

As a young kid Sapnap looked up to a lot of heroes. Mainly the ones with a lot of screen time and explosions that tore through roofs. He would get sparkles in his eyes whenever the TV would show them on the screen saving someone or fighting a villain. They were the people he aspired to be. And when he would soon get his powers, his dreams would be a reality.

He wanted his friends George and Dream beside him too. And occasionally his dad who also did hero work, but he didn't want to be in the middle of the nasty things him and skeppy had going on.

George had gotten his powers first. It was named hunters calling. His powers would grant him increased sight, hearing and aim but it would use stamina to do it. Meaning he would be out of breathe if he used it too much. But Sapnap still dragged him around and asked him to throw a lot of things into trash cans to see if he could make it. Though he became less fun during hide and seek. And he also had catlike senses too. Every time he saw a cup or anything at the edge of a table, he just had to push it off the edge. He also had to sleep in unnecessary places. At least that's what he told Sapnap when he found him on top of his fridge 5:00 in the morning.

Dreams came next as the second youngest. He could manipulate the mind into thinking certain things. So when he played rock, paper, scissors against them he would make them choose one thing so he could always win. Even better whenever he used it, he could also temporarily disable them from using their powers if he commanded it. It was so cool, even though Sapnap swore he would never play another mind game with dream. Especially rock, paper, scissors after Sapnap lost ice cream to Dream and he just laughed in his face.

Sapnap didn't show any signs of powers. They expected his to match his personality. Like George's was patient waiting to get the perfect shot and Dream's showed of his mindful nature. They expected Sapnap to get some type of fire powers.

Sapnap was impatient and brash. He also had a sort of a pyro streak. He would make lighters with varying outputs. One could light a whole tree in a matter of seconds and the other had a flame so small, you couldn't see it unless you had microscopic lenses that Sapnap had made. But if you were to touch it, get ready for just about the worst pain you would ever feel in your life. Sapnap had Dream test it out so he couldn't be 100% sure if that were true.

They thought his powers had to do with mechanics, but that ended up being wrong when the test showed up negative. Just like the many, many other tests.

They were on the verge of telling them that Sapnap was powerless and that the test that showed he possessed some form of magical abilities when the day happened.

George, Dream and Sapnap had been playing in a flower field.

In fact, they had just gotten permission from Bad and Puffy to go out but they had to be back by night.

"Guys," Said George," I think I heard a sheep."

Sapnap gasped and began jumping up and down around George asking where.

Even though Sapnap had been feeling a little bummed out with his powers, he would never miss the opportunity to see animals. Especially, if he got to see them with his friends.

"It's this way c'mon," Said George as he began dragging Dream and Sapnap towards a direction.

The baas came into their hearing range as they went farther from their original position.

They landed upon a barn close to a forest with a sheep enclosure.

They all had collective awws as the sheep began eating some grass. And they all collectively squealed when a baby sheep popped in behind it.

"Oh my god. George can we pet them. Please? Please? Please? Pretty please?" Squealed Sapnap.

Dream shook his head in agreement as he turned to look at George with puppy eyes.

"I suppose we could. But," George said as they began climbing the fence, making them turn around," You have to be slow or else they're going to think you're a danger to them. And I have to be in front of you."

Dream and Sapnap quickly agreed and got behind George as he made it to the other end of the gate.

"Sapnap you talk to them. You've probably read the most books about animals anyway."

"I have" Sapnap agreed.

He started to slowly baby talk them as they all approached though it did little to make the sheep less scared. But they didn't exactly back away.

George reached into his hands as they just about reached him and pulled out some sugar wheat made so animals could get a nice tasting breakfast, dinner and lunch.

The sheep lit up and began approaching George. It slowly sniffed George's hand before deigning him safe enough and eating from it.

That seemed to be all the baby sheep needed to start running around them. He pushed his nose into Sapnap's leg making him fall face first into the grass. In which Dream absolutely wheezed at before he was also pushed. But instead of face first into the grass, he was pushed straight on top of Sapnap, making both of them groan.

The sheep them hopped on top of them both making a proud beeping noise.

When the sheep hopped off, Dream and Sapnap began chasing them and a bunch of other babies began playing with them too.

Soon enough, George was feeding just about the covered in sheep trying to get some sugar wheat, while Dream and Sapnap were chasing dozens of babies and getting tackled a lot.

The were having so much fun that they didn't notice the big paws sneaking towards them.

Dream decided to take a rest nest to the gate with a dozen baby sheep also laying on him.

Then he heard a rustle and saw a huge wolf leaping with it's jaw open and ready to take one of the babies lives. So he did the only thing he could in those impulse ridden seconds and moved his arm in front of the babies and let the fox latch onto him instead.

He gave out a sharp cry gaining George and Sapnap's attention as the baby sheep started to run away from him and the fox.

The fox unlatched it's jaw from Dreams arm and started to run after the sheep.

"George," Dream cried out," Save them."

George nodded and picked up a slightly convenient little rock and threw it at the fox. It hit it's market and landed straight into the foxes eye. Making him let out a soft whimper and stop momentarily. That was enough for George to find a sightly larger rock that he threw and hit the foxes nose making him whimper and start running towards the closest gate and jump over it. Disappearing into forests.

George turned at the sound of dream crying and began to run toward him. Making him wonder where the sheep around him went before he picked up on the loud distressed beep coming from the inside barn. But he could worry about that later, Dream came now.

"Dream are you ok," George shouted as he got closer.

Dream shook his head as he showed him the bite he had yet to show Sapnap due to both of their crying.

"Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. This is so bad, we've got to get you to Bad or Puffy or whoever."

"Wait he's going to bleed out if we do that," Sapnap input," Here give me your arm."

Dream obeyed and a green glow covered his arm before the skin began to stitch itself back into place and the pain faded.

"Pandas," Dream questioned shaking his arm," Oh my god it feels so much better now. Thank you."

Sapnap was quiet though, making Dream turn around to see Sapnap with a shocked expression.

"Pandas?" Dream questioned.

But he didn't get an answer.

"Sapnap," George similarly questioned putting a hand on Sapnap's shoulder.

Only for Sapnap to shrug it off and start sprinting through the forest. He heard his friends call for him but he didn't want to go back to them so they could see the tears streaming down his face. Though George was probably using his powers and could see them anyway, but Sapnap kept running.

He burst through the flower field gate and into the city. Running through the familiar street before making it to his house. Where he quickly inserted the key, twisted and ran straight to his room. He slammed the door and locked it quickly before throwing himself on his bed.

Out of everything he could have gotten it had to be useless healing powers. He could never make it anywhere with these useless powers. He might as well say goodbye to his friends who would go far without someone like Sapnap holding them back.

Honestly, Sapnap would take anything over this sick fucking joke.

He silently apologized to his father in his head. But he had to understand. This was everything he didn't want.

He heard frantic knocks on his door as Dream, George and Bad all hovered next to his door asking him to open it.

"Go away," He shouted," Just leave me alone."

The knocking stopped. They didn't want to leave him alone. Of course they didn't. But when Sapnap was feeling like this it would be best for every party to let him cool off before things could escalate to something nobody wanted.

Sapnap stayed in his bed for days. He got daily visits from both Dream and George. And bad had taken to leaving his plate on the stand next to his door so he wouldn't starve. it was a small pleasure when he would come back to see the plate empty and returned to it's previous place.

After five days (honestly he's surprised Dream lasted that long, but maybe that's because George held him back), they finally snapped.

He heard a knock on his window from where he was pitying himself in his covers but refused to get out.

But all of a sudden he was getting up ad walking to the window to come face to face with Dream. So he must've used his powers to make Sapnap come over.

He found himself opening the window and stepping aside as Dream climbed in and reached a hand out beside him.

He had the urge to push him out of the window but he learned his lesson from last time.

Dream pulled George in and he shut the window before turning to look at Sapnap.

"This is an intervention," Dream stated.

George nodded beside him.

"You would be here for years if we allowed you too. So just tell us what's wrong so we can stop caring about you idiot." George chimed in.

Usually Sapnap wouldn't burst out crying to whatever George said, but usually it didn't corelate to whatever insecurities were floating around his head.

Dream and George panicked as soon as Sapnap began. Dream running to hold Sapnap before hesitating. Then decided it was worth it and pulled Sapnap into his strong grip. He started reprimanding George as Sapnap cried harder from where he was hovering over them. Making them start an argument and develop further in this train wreck of an intervention.

"Sapnap," Dream said holding both sides of his face, "C'mon tell us what's wrong."

Somewhere in the midst of Sapnap crying they had stopped arguing and instead both of their hands were placed over him and they both were looking into his eyes.

He didn't want to tell them, but he felt a push in his brain and he ultimately had no choice.

"You guys are going to leave me," Sapnap confessed," I can't follow you because of my stupid healing powers that don't even make sense with me."

"Sapnap," Dream said sadly.

"I won't even be able to do anything with you guys because you'll be on the field and I'll just be here without you healing idiots who get themselves hurt because what else can I do."

"Sapnap," George cut in," You're much more than just your powers. In fact, you could be a mechanic. You make awesome stuff and you could get a field license then. And we would never leave you."

"Yeah," Dream agreed," And I think your powers compliment you very well. People judge you from your first looks. they don't see the real you. The you I know is a caring idiot who pays attention to everything he can to make sure no one gets hurt. Whether that be animal or human it doesn't matter. So for you to have healing powers everything clicks in place."

"And," George chimed in, "You already have a career in mechanics because the government buys your weird little lighters and you have like 50 patents. And you don't have to worry about not being useful to us because we're idiots that get hurt a lot and we could use a healer to avoid being to hospitals as much as we can."

Sapnap was crying less so and his reason for crying had changed. He should've never thought they would leave him over something so stupid.

"I love you guys," He chokes out.

Dream immediately replies to the words with his own I love you because the words were never difficult to get out for him.

It was George's reply that made his simmer like eggs on top of a stove turning into scrambled goodness. George had a hard time saying the words and for him to just outright say it made Sapnap want to cry even more so he did. And they hugged each other. It felt amazing.

They fell asleep in Sapnap's bed only to later be awoken by a smiling Bad and Skeppy.

"Wake up sleeping mother fuckers." Skeppy shouted only for Bad to hit him in the head and shout a language that jolted even George awake.

"It worked didn't it," Skeppy smiled and slid out of the room as a furious bad chased him.

"Dinners ready by the way," Bad shouted as he ran out the door.

Dream and George scrambled to get out the bed. Even though they're parents made good food too, they were hoping they could get lucky with Bad's muffins on the table too. They were to die for. Literally, Bad had to make two for everybody because last time there was one left, George and Dream had to take a time out for almost chocking each other. When they were told to apologize they just shrugged and said they'd do it again.

They headed down to the table where they saw a the muffins on the edge of the table. Sapnap grabbed George as he went to push them and Dream put the muffins farther away from the edge. They just got Sapnap out of depression, who knows how George would be if he dropped Bad's muffins on the floor.

"Thank you guys," George said earnestly making Dream and Sapnap laugh.

They had a quick dinner after that. Bad had made some rabbit stew with purple lemonade. It was Niki's recipe and even though bad followed instructions to a fault, they all agreed that Niki's were better. Silently though.

Skeppy went to drop Dream and George back to their parents house after they got a scary threat from both Ponk and Puffy because they had left without telling them.

The trio silently prayed for each other and Sapnap had a sneaking suspicion that the adults did too.

"Sapnap," Bad said when they left," They told me what happened at the field."

Sapnap looked away, he could tell Bad had already figured out the exact thought process he had.

"I'm sure George and Dream already got it through you're thick skull about how they don't care and what you can do but let me tell you something. You can be a new kind of hero. One never seen before. You can keep people guessing what you are and who you'll be but only you know the answer. Having explosive powers don't make a hero, it's what you do with your brain and everything you have at your disposal that makes you a hero. Be the type of hero you want to be. Understand."

Sapnap nodded through blurry tears. He ran and hugged Bad.

"Can I sleep in your room?" Sapnap mumbled into Bad's neck from where he had been picked up.

"Of course Pandas," Bad agreed softly.

That night Sapnap slept with Bad in his bed and Skeppy joined when he came back from dropping off the "problem children" as he refers them.

That morning Sapnap began to work on a plan on everything he could do to become a new type of hero.
