The haze of childhood. Driving in the dark on back roads. Rain on the car. Writing faces on the window. Light up bear held in my arms. Dreaming of faraway places. Glow in the dark stars on my door. I'd stare at them for hours. Clouds on my ceiling blue and white colliding together as if I wasn't there. I'd float away if I could. Trying to count to 100. Hearing country music for the first time and feeling giddy because it wasn't Christian music. Hearing pop for the first time and realizing there are so many things out there. My first build a bear. I gave him basketball shorts and a tank top. The smell of bubble gum and hair salons forever tied together throughout all of me. Wishing I was a bird to fly somewhere new. Taking off my red snowmen pajamas from being too sweaty. My favorite batman pajamas getting rips at the bottom from dragging over my feet. Trying to play foursquare in the backyard. Listening to the same lyrics over and over needing something to grasp onto. The feelings are so distant yet present as if they were still happening or maybe never happened. Like a dream. As though it happened to someone else. Like wind could come and wipe it all away and I wouldn't know any better.
