Obsidian and Honey
“Who are you?”
“The chick who just saved your life. “
Those eyes looked so familiar, black as night. She only has encountered one person with eyes like that and every time, they take her breath away. But it couldn’t be. She must be imagining things. Sophie had to be sure.
“The last time I came here to meet a bat woman the vibes were different.”
“Please say this isn’t a booty call.”
With a tilt of her head and a smirk
… “Look I don’t know where you got this idea that all crows are bastards but some of us are trying to make a difference.”
“Well from my experience when crows fly together, they call it a murder for a reason.”
“When did you get out of black gate?”
“How-? I don’t know what you’re talking about?” Bat woman counters
“Cut the crap Ryan. I know it’s you.”
“Who’s Ryan? Look crow, I think you got me mixed up with someone else.”
“Funny.” Sophie takes a few steps forward looking down at the new found vigilante.
“I only know one person with eyes that dark…like obsidian and depthless…”she ends with a low husk
“Ummm… I…”
“Also you’re a half-ling just like Ryan, Ryan.” She arches an eyebrow.
“So I’ll ask again. When did you get out of black gate?”
Speechless Ryan drops her shoulders and let’s her head drop slightly. “A few weeks ago”, she mumbles. “So what now Crowphie? You’re going to take me in? Blackmail me into doing your bidding?”
Sophie just stares at Ryan unfazed by the name calling. Ryan meets her eyes head on with a glare of her own.
“Ry, we both know that wouldn’t do either one of us any good. We both need each other right now. I want to offer you a deal. You get everything you know about Safiyah and Coryana and we get access to your prisoner.”
“So you can beat him within an inch of his life?”
“He’s a murder who knows where Kate is being held.”
“I’ll think about it.”
“You should be doing everything in your power to help Kate.”
“I don’t need a crow telling me how to do my job.”
“I’m not telling you as a crow… Kate’s the love of my life and I need your help to get her back.”
She lies to herself and Ryan. They both know it’s a lie. If it were the truth Sophie wouldn’t be giving her that penetrating unwavering look.
“Like I said, I’ll think about it.”
Sophie watches longingly as Batwoman turns and walks away into the night. With a shaky breath Sophie closes her eyes and takes a deep breaths to calm herself. Well that could have gone better but. She’ll take what she can get.
