Chapter Text
“I have a Ph.D, you know.”
“I know.”
“A Ph.D, Daisy! And in political science, not something bullshit like art history.”
“Isn’t your bachelor’s in art history?”
“Shut up. Political science! They should be calling me Doctor Hampton. Doctor.”
“Doctor Mandy.”
“Again, shut up. You know, if they asked for a doctor on a plane? I could stand up. I’m a doctor. Got a sheepskin on the wall and everything.”
“What would you do to a sick person on a plane, lecture them about the role of the media in generational decline of voting?”
“Shut up!”
“Stop waving your arms around, you’re spilling your wine. Also, is that Ph.D diploma on real sheepskin, or is that just a thing people say?”
“It’s on…thick paper of some kind. Parchment? I don’t know. No one makes them on real sheepskins now, though they used to. My dad’s degree is in my mom’s attic somewhere, it’s like two feet wide and made from actual sheep.”
“Actual sheep.”
“There’s are reasons I’m a vegetarian.”
“Mmm hmm.”
A heavy sigh. “Doctor Hampton.”
“I think it’s my turn to say ‘shut up’, so. You know.”
“Shut up?”
“Yeah.”
