Return What Was Taken

Summary:

“I love you,” Jinyoung whispered.

“I love you, too.”

Jinyoung squeezed his eyes shut and inhaled deeply. He leaned away slightly and placed his hands on either side of Koda’s head. Jinyoung made sure those beautiful eyes were locked on him before speaking.

“Koda,” Jinyoung started. “You and I are going to sleep here tonight.”

Jinyoung caught the moment when Koda’s eyes dilated and became glassy. Everything in Jinyoung’s heart screamed for him to stop, but Jinyoung continued.

OR
200 years ago, Jinyoung said goodbye to the love of his life. And, well, he never quite got over it.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Jinyoung rested his head on Koda’s chest and snuggled into him. He closed his eyes and tried to drift as Koda tousled his hair. But it wasn’t enough to quiet Jinyoung’s mind...and it was time. Jinyoung gave Koda a tight squeeze before sitting up to be eye level with him. As with every time before, Jinyoung found warmth in those bright, amber eyes. A wave of sadness threatened to wash over Jinyoung in that moment.

“Why are you staring?” Koda’s voice was soft.

“How could I not?”

Koda gave a small huff before leaning in to kiss Jinyoung. It was a light kiss, but the love it held was strong. Jinyoung ended the kiss and pressed his forehead against Koda’s.

“And in the morning, I will be gone. You won’t remember me. You won’t remember the time we have spent together. You will forget Jay B, Mark, Jackson, Youngjae, Bambam, and Yugyeom. For the last five years, you have been single. You’ve been exploring South Korea. You’ve had a great time, but it’s time to go back home.”

Jinyoung let the pressure of the compulsion fade from his eyes, and he watched as Koda’s eyes slowly returned to normal. Jinyoung’s words would erase the memories they shared, and Koda’s mind would create new stories to fill in the missing pieces.

Koda blinked a few times, and a small smile lit his face. “I love you, too.”

Jinyoung wanted to scream. He wanted to cry. He wanted to spend the rest of his life with Koda.

Instead, Jinyoung wrapped himself around Koda, committing to memory every detail of this moment, and waited for his love to fall asleep.
