Until It Wasn't

Summary:

Shinsou Hitoshi finally presents ... as an Omega. He still wants to be a hero, but now he has to figure out how to deal with his secondary gender. Heats suck, there’s a better way to deal with them but he isn’t sure any Alpha would care to help the awkward loner Omega.

Of course Bakugo Katsuki presented as an Alpha. He’s determined to be the strongest and the best. He should have paid more attention to sex ed class because these Ruts fucking hurt. How do you get a person to have sex with you anyway?

Notes:

Hello everyone, this is my first fic ever.

As of now I'd consider it complete.

Thank you to everyone who commented, gave kudos & bookmarked.

Chapter 1: Ta Da!

Chapter Text

Ta da!

Hitoshi woke up feeling ... different.

He lay in bed for a few moments trying to figure out what it was, his stomach felt like he was on a boat at sea and he was getting sea sick? Maybe it was something he ate?

He didn't think he did anything yesterday that would make him sick. Just his usual classes in gen-ed at UA. Being quiet and sitting in the back of the classrooms doing his best not to draw any unwanted attention to himself. In fact Hitoshi had just gotten up after getting a few hours of sleep, he’d been awake for around 22 hours straight.

So, the usual for him.

Sighing, he rolled out of bed and audibly groaned as his back spasmed causing him more pain.

What the hell?

Groggily Hitoshi shuffled across his bedroom making his way down the hall to the bathroom. He did his usual pre-school morning routine, brushed his teeth, attempted to brush his hair, went to the bathroom and almost had a freaking heart attack as he wiped smooth clear goop from between his legs.

Oh crap on a cracker what the hell what the hell? This was, this was …

WHY NOW?

Hitoshi cleaned up as best he could, got dressed quickly, and ran downstairs, his scent spiking with his sudden panic. His foster mom Yuna and her husband Itsuki were just finishing their breakfast. Yuna took a quick sniff, observed Shinsou’s panicked state and quietly and quickly shooed her husband out the door. Rushing back she pulled out a chair at the table for Hitoshi to have a seat.

“Shinsou honey, I want you to look at me, you're having a panic attack. Eyes on me now, take a deep breath, hold it for five seconds then breath ok?” Yuna took a deep breath, held it, and then slowly let it out as an example, “I’m asking you to do that for me ten times now, nice and slow, I’ll be right back I’m just going to make a quick phone call.”

Hitoshi sat at the table and did as she asked, he pressed his forehead to the table with a dull thud while doing the breathing exercise as he heard his foster mom leave the room for a few minutes then come back and sit next to him waiting for him to finish.

“There now, do you feel a bit better? I know what’s happening is scary but look at me, you are in a safe place.”

Hitoshi looked up and nodded slowly.

He got along well with Yuna. She was an older woman, past the age of having her own pups but compassionate and motivated to make a positive impact in the world.

She worked at a local news station and her quirk allowed her to manipulate light. She was direct but sincere about helping him. Yuna knew his history and his quirk but didn’t treat him any differently because of it. Well, actually sometimes Hitoshi felt she was a bit over protective. He winced as he sat in the hard wood chair, his pants already felt damp and the cramping was getting worse.

Yuna let out her light honeysuckle and lemon scent to help calm him, “Shinsou sweet heart, I want you to stay home from school today, probably the rest of this week too, will you do that?”

“What, but my classes!” Hitoshi yelped, bolting upright in the chair. He didn’t want to miss school, he worked so hard and overcame so much to get into UA. He couldn't afford to fall behind and lose his scholarship, although deep down he already knew that he really couldn’t go to school like this.

Hitoshi’s foster mom watched him carefully as if she could read his thoughts, she slowly reached out and put her hand on his shoulder waiting to gauge his reaction before rubbing her warm hand in small light comforting circles, “I already gave the school a call and let them know, they’ll have your teachers make sure you get your notes and homework to make-up after this so please don’t worry about any of that. We did notice your scent started changing last week and I’ve taken in enough pre-teen and teenage pups to know when a pup is presenting.” she said as she stood up and went to fetch a fresh cup of tea and a couple pills from the first aid station on the wall in the kitchen leaving Hitoshi to his own thoughts for a moment.

He knew what was happening, he felt bad for freaking out. He had sat through the presentation and gender classes in public school. Hitoshi swallowed hard and tried to make himself smaller as he sat in the chair, speaking just above a whisper, “I’m an Omega.”

Yuna placed the tea and two pain relief tablets in front of him as she sat back down at the table.

She looked at him and said firmly, “These will help with the soreness, if you would like. And yes, your secondary gender is Omega and there is no reason for this pity party. You can still follow your dream to be whatever you want to, do you understand me? Omega, Beta, Alpha, whichever a person is, that is just one part of them. Your secondary gender alone does not define who you are. Do you understand Shinsou?”

Hitoshi shrugged. He didn’t really feel like talking right now. He did opt to take the pills though, he was feeling pretty crummy and starting to sweat so he welcomed the help they offered. He quickly downed them with the tea.

“I will pull a presentation box for you, there will be some literature to read beyond what they taught you in school sex ed, as well as some very relatable stories from other male Omegas. There are some items to offer you a bit of relief during heats, new underwear and pads to help with slick. After your heat I’ll also give you some scent patches for when you go back to school. We can pick up more of whichever items you prefer to use or think you may want to try this weekend for your next Heat. And of course you can ask me any questions.”

Hitoshi just groaned.

This quickly switched to morbidly embarrassing, too bad there wasn’t a pill to negate that too. His scent must have given away how he was feeling because Yuna followed that up with, “I understand if you feel more comfortable talking to your friends about this. And all the items in the box are yours of course. I always keep boxes prepped for both presentations.” Yuna said and she stood up to take a box out of the closet in the hallway and placed it on the table in front of Shinsou. Friends, yea right.

“Oh, and I’ll also book you an appointment at the end of this week with the doctor for your Implant.” Yuna said as she tutted around the kitchen putting a plate of food together for him.

Shinsou squirmed a bit in the chair, the slick he had started to produce, because that's what it was damnit, felt so unfamiliar to him. He was achy and uncomfortable but not stupid. He knew he was very lucky to have a foster parent like Yuna and to not be in the situation he was just in a year ago, but this was still awkward as hell.

“Shinsou, first Heat’s and Ruts are uncomfortable and confusing for everyone. It will get better after this I promise. As miserable as it is, you’re not alone. Some good news is Omega’s aren’t treated the same as they were half a century ago. You will be ok and your foster parents will make sure you are safe alright hun?”

Hitoshi nodded again, he really appreciated the way Yuna clearly cared but didn’t make this overwhelming.

Yuna was good at reading people. There were already enough confusing changes going on, Hitoshi was sure it wouldn’t take much to push him over the edge. Yuna made him feel like he had a choice in something, because his body was sure doing whatever the hell it wanted to at the moment. Even if what she was offering was the best option, Yuna never told him he had to do any of it her way, she just suggested the options to him and he could always say no or suggest something he was more comfortable with.

"Here," she said, putting a plate of breakfast on top of the box and nodding, unbothered by his silence, "If you want to take it to your room to eat that's ok. I'll bring you some lunch and nesting materials later after you have a chance to read through some of the literature ok?" The unsaid ‘I’ll be checking on you’ coming through loud and clear.

"Ok", Hitoshi finally spoke as he stood, picking up the box with the plate of food on top and headed back up to his room.

This was going to suck.
