Act like you mean it

Summary:

Joe is a bit nervous about the more heated scenes Kit and he will be filming for season two. Kit tries to reassure him it'll be okay, and even offers Joe some good advice on the matter. But maybe they do need to rehearse a little and take some of the edge off.

Notes:

Disclaimer: Based on the scene on page 316 of Alice Oseman's Heartstopper vol 3. There will be some dialogue snippets from those pages.
I know Joe is gay, but I have no idea what Kit or Sebastian's sexualities are and this is in no way meant to disrespect those incredible actors. No assumption is being made, this is just FICTION, and if you don't understand that you shouldn't be here in the first place. UPDATE: So sad for what happened to Kit, being accused of queerbaiting. People really didn't get the show. And before anyone says, fanfic is purely fiction. It wouldn't have mattered whateher he was straight, bi or gay. None of the things in fanfic are real, they're just a piece of imagination that means no disrespect to anyone. I hope he's doing okay. <33

Work Text:

Joe had to admit that the idea of renting bicycles and riding around during the sunny day wasn't half bad. When Kit had first suggested he and Bash go for a bike ride his first reaction had been to arch his eyebrows and give his friend a look that said plenty about how he felt.

One could just say he was not fond of sports, or that he hadn't ridden a bike in ages, but somehow Kit managed to convince them it would be fun. Or convince him, more specifically. Bash didn't need much convincing at all.

He had been the one helping Kit convince him to go for a ride under the blue sky of London's countryside. They were all together to do some interviews and photoshoots, as well as to participate in some meetings with producers, and there was no reason why they couldn't, shouldn't, have a break.

Because Kit was now somewhat of a fitness freak, of course he came up with the riding idea. Joe would much rather have stayed in the hotel and watched a movie or something, but in the end he had to be honest with himself—it was kind of fun and took his mind off things that had been troubling him recently.

Like filming season two. Like filming certain aspects of season two.

"Oh, look! There's another hill coming up," Kit smiled playfully when Joe groaned.

"My thighs are burning!"

"It's not even very steep," Bash chuckled.

"It is for me!" Joe protested.

"C'mon, pick up some speed like this and it'll be easier." Kit lifted himself off the bicycle so he had more room to push hard against the pedals.

"If you wanted to show off your butt you could've just done so at the hotel," Joe teased while Bash wolf whistled.

Kit chuckled a little as he looked over his shoulder at his friends. One wouldn't be able to tell whether he was blushing or if the exercise had the blood flow in his cheeks increased.

"He's such a show off now that he's working out," Bash teased playfully as they caught up with Kit.

"Gotta get all the exercise I can before we start shooting again. You know how crazy it gets," Kit said.

"You can say that again," Joe widened his eyes.

They rode for a few more minutes in silence, appreciating the view and taking advantage of the nearly empty streets in the middle of the afternoon. It felt good being outside while most people were indoors, working.

"So my legs are really killing me and I'll probably hate you tomorrow but thanks for the suggestion, it's a nice ride," Joe told Kit.

Sebastian and Kit were both riding on each side of him.

"Told you," Kit said.

"I told you too," Bash said.

"Told me what?"

"That riding would help you get your mind off what's bothering you about the shooting," he said enigmatically.

"Yeah, thanks for bringing that right up, Bash," Joe rolled his eyes.

"What's bothering you about the shooting?" Kit frowned. "We haven't even started it yet."

Joe and Bash locked eyes for a moment. Joe could almost see what was going through his friend's thoughts. They had grown quite close since they'd got to know each other.

"Just tell him," Bash ended up saying. "He'll understand."

Joe felt his heart rate pick up speed, which was very unsettling considering the bike ride was already responsible for a fast heartbeat.

"Wot?" Kit looked at Joe and Bash with a little more interest.

"It's…it's nothing," Joe shrugged and looked ahead.

"You should tell him. It'll help you feel more relaxed," Bash insisted.

Joe sighed deeply.

"All right."

Kit was all ears now. He looked ahead so as not to have any accidents, but his eyes were mostly focused on Joe.

"Well, maybe you're a bit nervous too…" Joe began, uncertain. Kit was a more seasoned actor than he was, and even though his friend was very kind and professional, it did make Joe feel a little insecure. "I mean, you've read the books…"

"We all have," Kit pointed out and looked at Bash to try and figure out where that was going.

"So you know there will be um…" Joe could just tell his cheeks were on fire, and he was glad they were being physically active so it would mostly go unnoticed. "lots of making out scenes."

"Oh," Kit chuckled. "Yeah, I know."

Bash laughed a little as he saw his friend grow suddenly shy and struggle with his words.

"Nick and Charlie made out many times in season one, I mean, we did as we rehearsed. You can't be nervous about that?" Kit tried.

"No, I mean. I'm not, I know they'll help us and make it really comfortable and stuff…" Joe explained quickly. "It's just that…well," he looked at Bash, who nodded encouragingly, and then at Kit again. "I pretty much straddle you in bed as we make out. There's…you know, a lot of touching."

Bash had enough of Joe's tiptoeing around it.

"He's basically afraid he'll get hard on your lap," he said and laughed.

"Bash!!" Joe could feel the heat in his ears now. His heart was pounding. "But yeah…he's right. I mean, I'm aware it's all acting but for fuck's sake, I'm a human being, you know?" He dared to look at Kit.

The look in the ginger boy's eyes made him relax and chuckle too.

"Yeah, we both are," Kit grinned.

"I know you have more experience…" Joe began.

"Not with this kind of scene I haven't," Kit retorted.

"And I'll be mortified if that happens and I'm really really sorry in advance if it does," he blurted.

Kit smiled fondly. He wondered if Joe knew how very Charlie-like he sounded just now.

"Mate, it's fine!" He reassured him. "The intimacy director even said that it might happen, remember? They'll know how to deal with this, they'll call a break or whatever."

"I don't want you to feel awkward," Joe insisted.

"Just tell him it's okay for crying out loud this kid won't listen to me!" Bash sighed. He'd been trying to tell Joe the very same thing but his friend kept going back to how terrified he was of getting hard during a make out scene with Kit. It obviously had something to do with the fact that Joe was openly gay and Kit, even though he didn't want to label himself, was at least farther away in the sexuality spectrum.

"Joe, just chill out! It could happen. I mean, it could happen to me as well. We have to wait for the scrip but if we do have the scene where you're on my lap and we're kissing…I don't know, I'm human too," he chuckled, cheeks getting redder.

Joe seemed to relax at that.

"Yeah?"

"Of course!" Kit laughed awkwardly.

"See? Told you it was all right!" Bash said.

"Besides," Kit went on. "When you know we'll be filming a hot scene you can always wank off before we shoot it."

"What?!" Joe exclaimed as Bash burst into laughter on his side.

Kit shrugged and tried not to make a big deal out of it.

"That's what I will do if I have to."

"Oh really?" Joe's eyes were huge, his eyebrows arched. "And you just tell me this??"

"It's actually great advice," Bash looked at Kit and nodded.

"Great advice?!" Joe sounded outraged. "How is knowing Kit might have just wanked off before our scene supposed to help me?!"

Kit and Sebastian laughed at Joe's indignant, blushing face.

"I mean…" Joe began. He thought about being on Kit's lap knowing what his friend had been doing a few moments before and felt a ring of fire caress his throat and spread to his face. "Never mind," he ended up saying as his thoughts ran wild.

Joe did not fancy Kit. They were friends. He knew Kit was most likely straight even though he had never said it openly. They had a safe enough space between them to have allowed Kit to come out if he wanted to, which he never did. Joe didn't know whether Kit would be willing to try anything with a boy just out of curiosity, or even if he felt anything at all when they had kissing scenes—he told himself it was none of his business and he didn't want to know.

Nevertheless…Kit Connor was an attractive lad. Joe was his friend and respected him, admired him greatly, but as he'd said before, he was human for fuck's sake. He had eyes and he would be lying if he tried to pretend Kit wasn't attractive.

Right now Joe thought about the question they got asked in an interview, about whether they'd rather have their internet history exposed or their thoughts read, to which Joe had categorically answered the former. He would never admit what he had felt when Kit and he made out for the first time as Nick and Charlie. There had been people all around them, cameras, light, words being shouted…they were acting, everything was extremely professional, friendly and cute but also tiring and methodic…however.

Acting meant convincing your brain that you were truly, convincingly experiencing a feeling. Joe had felt the tingling feeling in his heart and groin, something he would've died before admitting. He had gone home and relieved himself to a very dirty and forbidden fantasy with his co-star, but that had been it. Just a wank to let all that tension out of his system and he was done. Moved on. No more tingling, just sheer work.

"I need a break," Sebastian said after they went up a small hill. "Let's stop somewhere and get some rest."

"Or some beers," Kit chuckled and winked at his friends.

"Both, please," Joe agreed readily, eager to snap out of his awkward thoughts.

A couple of months later…

They had started filming about two weeks ago. Even though his days were busy from the moment he got up to the moment he collapsed in bed, exhausted, Joe was thrilled. The whole experience felt much like an extended field trip with cast members, who were all very close friends, hanging out at each other's hotel rooms, getting together for breakfast or during breaks, having a good laugh or going out to see the city or grab something to eat when they weren't working.

He was having an amazing time, even if Joe did feel a bit homesick at night. He usually went to Sebastian's room when he was feeling a bit down and they talked it out until Joe felt good again. It never failed to put a smile on his face how Bash's character could be so annoying in the show while Bash was so cool and sweet in real life. Joe felt really glad the show had brought them together, he couldn't remember having had such a close gay friend that understood him so well.

"Are you ready for your scene tomorrow?" Sebastian teased as they lay in bed watching TV.

"Stop it," Joe groaned. "Argh, why did you have to bring it up?"

"Aw, c'mon. As if you're suffering very badly because you'll have a steamy make out session with Kit."

"No, Charlie will have a steamy make out session with Nick," Joe corrected him.

Bash laughed a little and rolled his eyes.

Joe and he looked into each other's eyes and Joe's lips quirked up with a smile.

"I'm glad we won't have to drive anywhere to film it. And I'm sure there will be so much directing that it will be anything but a hot make out for us."

"Oh, I have no doubt. They'll direct your arses off to get it right."

"Doesn't mean I'm not nervous about…you know what."

"Joe, don't be ridiculous, mate. Kit will be fine if something happens. We're teenagers."

"And actors," Joe stressed.

"And teenagers," Bash chuckled.

"Fine. I don't want to talk about it. I kind of wish I could rehearse it with Kit before we start filming, just to see how it's gonna make me feel you know? Should I be worried? Will I be fine?"

"You're overthinking this."

"You would too."

"No," Bash teased. "If I had to make out with him I'd just go for it. You know me," he winked seductively and Joe poked his ribs playfully.

"Night, Bash. I better try and get some sleep."

Joe left his friends' hotel room and started to head towards his. He was walking past Kit's when the door opened and his friend showed up.

"Hey."

"Hi," Joe stopped in his tracks when it looked like Kit was going to say something.

"I was actually going to look for you."

"You were?" Joe frowned.

"Yeah. I was thinking if you'd like to go over the scene we have for tomorrow. I know you were nervous and I thought maybe you'd feel better if you saw it's no big deal."

Joe felt a smile spring to his lips.

"I mean, it's a bit late considering we have to be up super early tomorrow," Kit went on. "But I figured we could go over the script a couple of times before bed."

"Yeah, sure. I was actually talking to Bash just now and I told him I'd feel better if we could rehearse before we do it in front of everyone."

"Why didn't you tell me, then?" Kit asked.

"I…" Joe shrugged a little. "I know you don't like to go over your lines too many times so they sound more organic," he explained.

"Well, there won't be much talking in this scene, will there?" He teased.

"No," Joe pursed his lips before chuckling a little.

"Come in," Kit stepped back and let Joe into his room.

Kit knew his friend was a bit anxious about filming one of the hottest scenes between their characters. What Joe didn't know and probably didn't believe him when Kit had tried to tell him, was that it would be a little nerve-wrecking for him too. Kit had had no problem filming their intimate scenes in season one, but he had read the books, and things got a hell of a lot more spicy and intimate now that Nick and Charlie had a relationship. Even though Kit was cool and confident about filming those scenes, ever since Joe had brought up the possibility of getting unwillingly carried away he couldn't really stop thinking about it.

Maybe if they went over it a few times without the many eyes of the producers they'd feel more comfortable doing it when the time came.

"Wanna eat something?"

"Nah, I had pizza with Bash."

"Wow thanks for inviting me," Kit sounded annoyed and Joe laughed.

"Leftovers," he explained.

"Okay, you're forgiven then. Drink?"

"No. We have an early day tomorrow, so…"

"Right." Kit sat down on his hotel bed. The script was right beside him, as if he'd been reading it. Now, Joe might think Kit had more experience, which he did, but that kind of romantic closeness was new to him as well. "So I was thinking that maybe if we rehearse it a bit you and I will both feel more confident about it tomorrow. You know… the some of the edge off." He was surprisingly nervous.

"Yeah, yeah…I think so." Joe was so glad Kit felt the same he could have hugged him. He didn't because, well, they would be doing that pretty soon.

"In this case if we feel like it might get a little uncomfortable or…hot, well, there's always that strategy I told you about," Kit grinned.

"Shut up!" Joe blushed a little. "Let's save that as a last resource thing, shall we?"

"Yeah."

Kit picked up the script and looked at Joe standing before him.

"Do you know the lines?"

Joe could tell his heart was pounding. He looked at Kit's hair, still a bit wet. His friend had probably just left the shower.

"Um, yeah," he said before it got too obvious he had spaced out.

"Okay, then." Kit stood up, raked his fingers through his hair and waited.

Joe slipped off his shoes. Kit wasn't wearing any.

They both looked each other and took a few deep breaths, both getting in character for what was to come.

Joe smiled and suddenly there was tenderness and provocation in the way he looked at Kit, who responded just as fondly. He relaxed a notch. It was time for Charlie and Nick, and Charlie was very comfortable with his boyfriend.

"Since the room is ours tonight…" he flopped down on the bed and looked up. "I could sleep in this bed with you?"

Kit gave himself to Nick and could almost feel the blush on his cheeks.

"Um…"

"I mean, we don't have to…"

A mischievous smile then curled Nick's lips.

"You'll have to move over, that's my side!"

"Oh really? I got here first," Charlie teased. "What are you going to do about it?"

"So that's how we're playing it, huh?"

Nick was in bed in a heartbeat, wrestling Charlie for the his side of the bed.

The sound of giggling and gasping filled the room.

"You're crushing me!" Charlie protested, trying to push Nick of off him but only half-heartedly.

"It's my side!"

Soon they were pillow fighting, following the script, which included a lot of rolling around. And obviously a lot of touching.

When Charlie ended up on top of Nick, Joe tried to shake the thought that he could feel every inch of Kit's body against him. Nick, he told himself quickly. It's my boyfriend and it's okay. He relaxed and smiled.

"Charlie!"

There was merry laughter as they wrestled a little more until Nick sat up with Charlie still on his lap, straddling him.

"Do I win?" Charlie asked, voice suddenly lower. He could smell the soap on Kit's skin, which was a little distracting. And good.

They stared deeply into each other's eyes, faces inches apart, breaths puffing against each other's cheeks.

Nick's eyes then trailed lower, fixing on Charlie's lips. He leaned forward and captured Charlie's lips in a kiss, his arms wrapping the smaller boy tightly against his body.

Charlie let himself go, but Joe's pulse was quick and his thoughts racing a little. It was a kiss like the ones they'd shared many times in season one, a lot of lip action and no tongue. The problem was the closeness. The playful wrestling, the rolling around in bed. Joe tried so hard to stay in character—he held on to Charlie with nails and teeth, but even that wasn't helping much. Charlie was as far gone as he was—much more actually.

When the kiss broke, it was his turn to press into Nick, framing his face and leaning in for another kiss.

Kit, Nick, was still very much in character, or so it seemed. He responded just as passionately, like they were truly filming, hands running up and down Charlie's back, lips dragging over his.

Charlie let his mouth trail lower until his lips found Nick's warm, sensitive neck. He kissed him there, a little tentatively, and pulled back enough to say his line.

"Payback time."
Kit shuddered. His heart might have just skipped a beat when Joe's—Charlie's!—soft lips pressed so very lightly to the curve of his neck. Goosebumps broke all over his skin and he felt heat starting to pool in his lower belly, causing him to twitch to attention.

A small, clipped little sigh escaped his lips and he frowned, trying to regain control. Rolling around in bed with his co-star and fake kissing had already been very intimate, but the response Charlie triggered when he put his lips on his neck and pressed down on him—gravity, it was only gravity, Joe wasn't doing anything—were suddenly more than he had been expecting.

Kit had no trouble having feelings for boys, it had just never happened. He didn't like to label himself because he felt good having an open mind. Even though he had only until recently been attracted to girls, he wouldn't rule out doing something with a boy if he was interested, it had just never happened. It was like he had never been truly tempted to explore his sexuality with another boy.

Until now.

The realization hit him like a storm, making his blood buzz in his ears as his arousal grew.

"Are you okay?"

Charlie's voice made his heart skip a beat.

"Um, y-yeah?"

Still on script, everything was going as planned. Kit wondered if Joe could feel his hard-on. The thought both thrilled and mortified him.

"You don't seem so sure?" Charlie wasn't sure anymore either. He was trying so hard to hold on to his character, but he was drowning. He could feel Kit's hard-on through the clothing separating them and there was little he could do but respond the same way.

They looked intently into each other's eyes. This was the moment Nick confessed he didn't feel ready to do more than kissing.

Follow the script, follow the script. A voice in the back of Kit's head kept telling him that it wasn't fair to do this with Joe. He needed to protect his co-worker, his friend…

Yet, he was once again staring at those full, soft lips right next to his face, and his control was slipping.

"Nick…?"

Kit surged forward and captured Joe's mouth in a kiss.

That was not in the script. Another kiss?

Joe went along with it, wondering if Kit was just trying to find his character again.

Except that Nick's tongue had never been inside his mouth, and right now Joe felt Kit's warm tongue slipping past his lips. It was shy and a little tentative, as if he was asking permission, but Joe's head was spinning nonetheless. He felt his breathing hitch when he touched Kit's tongue with his own and tasted his mouth. It was warm and wet, and the faint trace of toothpaste was there in Kit's mouth. There was something else though, something so unique and so hot that Joe ground down on Kit's lap despite himself, melting into the kiss and uttering a small moan into the ginger boy's mouth.

When the kiss broke again they were both undeniably hard, their eyes clouded with arousal and their breathing fast and shallow.

"I…I'm not in character anymore," Joe croaked out apologetically.

Kit could see the fear in those hazel-brown eyes and smiled.

"I'm not either."

Joe relaxed a little. What did it mean? His brain was tempted to take over and overthink the moment, but thank goodness Kit was faster.

His friend kissed him again, bolder this time, and it was like something was unleashed inside Joe. Knowing they were no longer two characters in love but their own selves caught up in a delicious and unexpected moment made everything so much better. He let his fingers rake through Kit's soft hair and pressed into him, relishing the little moan that escaped Kit's lips when their kiss broke.

"It seems you're very sensitive here," Joe teased, going back to his exploration of the curve of Kit's neck. God, his skin was so soft and he smelled so good.

Kit bit down on his bottom lip and bucked into Joe. His smile dissolved into a small groan when Joe rocked against his. He let his hands slide down to Joe's slim hips and held on as more blood rushed to his sex and made it difficult to focus.

When Joe realized how far gone they both were, he felt a little insecure and it showed on his face.

"Kit, I…I'm sorry, I…" he squirmed a little, which ended up causing more friction between them.

"Are you…are you okay?" Kit asked, worry on his voice.

"Yes, it's just…is it okay for you?" Joe asked, his mouth felt dry. He could feel how tight his underwear felt what with all the pressure going on down there.

"Yes. Don't stop," Kit could barely hide from the pleasure building inside him.

When Joe swiveled his hips into his erection he let out a strangled moan and his fingers tightened at Joe's hips, urging his movements on.

Feeling encouraged, Joe closed his eyes and moved faster, thrusting against Kit's evident hardness as if his body had a will of its own.

"I…I'm so close," he whimpered before finding Kit's lips.

"Me too," Kit whispered, wrapping his arms tightly around Joe's lithe body, pulling him close and down onto his lap.

His lips found Joe's neck and he nibbled, loving the sounds that spilled from Joe's lips.

"Oh—" Joe's thighs were shaking with the effort of rutting into Kit. He began not to care about how loud he was because there was only one thing on his mind.

"Fuck," Kit cursed a few moments before his mouth covered Joe's and his tongue claimed territory inside. That was definitely a real kiss, and the way Kit used his tongue left little doubt in Joe's head about how much he too was into it.

Joe let out a series of throaty moans and his fingers clawed at Kit's shoulders for support. He ground down hard against the tent in Kit's pants and felt a shudder rake him, head to toe. He cried softly and his forehead fell against Kit's as he climaxed and then nearly melted into Kit's body.

Kit wasn't done yet. His fingers held at Joe's slim thighs and he thrust up against him a few more times, rubbing his clothed erection against his friend. His eyes fell shut and he bit back a cry when his orgasm hit.

Joe could feel the moment Kit came beneath him. It was like small tremors traveled Kit's body.

Slowly, the fingers digging at his hipbones relaxed, and the gasping breath grew deeper and slower. The whole thing felt surreal, and for a few minutes neither boy moved, afraid to ruin the moment.

Kit licked at his lips and raked his fingers through his hair.

"Are you okay?" he asked a bit shyly.

Joe nodded readily.

"I…I think I need to use the bathroom, though."

They both smiled a bit awkwardly and Kit nodded towards the door. He watched as Joe disappeared inside in order to clean up.

As he waited for his turn, his brain tried to come to terms with what had just happened. There was no moral crises on sexuality grounds—Kit did not feel any sort of gay panic. Nevertheless, he did feel bad and guilty about indulging. Joe was his co-worker, they were supposed to respect each other. They had two more seasons, maybe more? to film together. The last thing they needed was for things to be weird and awkward between them. They had good chemistry, good friendship, what had Kit just done?

If he was perfectly honest with himself, he had been sort of curious about what it would feel like to experience something real with Joe, without cameras or scripts. But he wasn't prepared to be completely honest with himself yet.

Kit had been enjoying their friendship, the open minded and friendly atmosphere of Heartstopper, and now he was torn because even though part of him had been drawn to the idea of knowing what it would feel like, the other part, the rational part, chided himself for not being more cautions—what if he had ruined things?

"Hey…" Joe opened the door and stood before him on the bed, still a bit shy and awkward.

"My turn," Kit smiled a little and got up, disappearing into the bathroom.

Joe didn't sit back down on the bed. He walked towards his shoes and put them back on.

His heart was still racing a little and his busy mind kept trying to find any logic or sense in something that had felt so good but so…inappropriate.

Joe didn't want Kit to feel weird about what had just happened. They worked together, they respected each other, they needed to have a good relationship between them and for fuck's sake they did! Things didn't have to change, couldn't change.

Joe checked his phone, replied to a message from his mum and then saw as Kit left the bathroom.

"Um, so…"

The two boys looked each other in the eyes.

"I'm really sorry," Joe apologized.

"No…no, I'm sorry," Kit walked closer and the words just kept coming. "I feel really bad because I didn't want to take advantage of you. I respect you so much and I love what we're building on camera, I just, I shouldn't have—"

"You didn't take advantage of me, c'mon," Joe smiled a little. "I…had fun, in case you didn't notice."

Kit chuckled awkwardly as Joe fidgeted with the key card in his pocket.

"I don't want this to be awkward between us. I…I have no idea why it happened, but I know I just got really into it," Kit spoke with as much honesty as he could.

"Kit, relax, okay? This doesn't mean anything. It doesn't have to," Joe reassured him. "I don't expect anything to do change and I really don't want anything to be weird."

Joe's words seemed to lift the weight of the world off his shoulders and Kit nodded with heartfelt appreciation.

"Okay, yeah…thanks."

"And I'm not gonna tell anyone, not even Bash." Joe wanted to. Sebastian was his best, closest friend at the moment, but he knew that stuff like this had a way of getting out, so the safest way to protect themselves and prevent things from being really awkward was keeping it between them.

"Yeah, I think it's best. Are you sure you're okay though? I feel really kinda shitty like I disrespected you or something," Kit felt extremely vulnerable saying that but the look in Joe's eyes was very safe so he needed to be honest.

"Hey, I'm fine. I promise. I'm not going to assume anything about you or expect anything because of that."

"It's not just that…I mean, you're confident in your sexuality, I'm still…you know how I don't like to label myself…"

"Yeah."

"But I'm probably a 2 in the Kinsey scale. Have you heard of it?"

Joe chuckled and nodded.

"So maybe I was a bit curious to know what it would feel like…" Kit admitted, scratching absently at his neck as he did so.

"It's cool, man. I appreciate the honesty. But you don't have to worry, I mean, you're my friend and my work mate and I don't want things to be weird. Specially because we have the same scene coming up in a few hours."

"Shit," Kit laughed a little and raked his fingers through his hair again. "You're right. But it'll be okay. I dare say we'll be much calmer about it now? I don't think things can get more heated than that."

"No," Joe agreed and snickered a little. "Except Nick and Charlie will both say they're not ready to take things further."

"We definitely went off script there," Kit smirked and studied his cast mate. "Guess we were ready for a bit more."

"Guess we were."

They looked at each other for a moment longer.

"Thank you for being cool about it." Kit closed the distance and pulled Joe into a hug.

It was so warm and tight that it made Joe think of Nick's hugs. The thought caused him to smile. He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply, the sweet scent of Kit's shampoo invading his nostrils and tickling his senses not for the first time that night.

"It's all right," Joe hugged back and then pulled away.

"Do you want to have some tea? A beer?" Kit offered.

"Nah. I really should get some sleep. I'm pretty sure tomorrow will be brutal to get it right."

"Yeah. I know."

Kit watched as Joe picked up the key card from his pocket.

"I totally blame this on Nick and Charlie," Joe suddenly blurted and caused Kit to laugh.

"That's absolutely their fault."

"Um-hum."

"Are they okay, though? Our Nick and Charlie…?"

"Yeah, of course they are. There might be a bit more blushing…" Joe began.

"And some more sparks…" Kit added.

"Yeah," Joe laughed. "Nothing that the producers won't love."

"Night, Joe."

"Night, Kit."

Joe smiled shyly when Kit opened the door. He then stepped out and walked towards the elevator.

As the doors opened, he looked over his shoulder and found out Kit Connor was still looking at him from a small crack in the door.

They smiled at each other with complicity before Joe stepped into the elevator and out of sight.

Kit closed the door and rested against it for a while.

He told himself it would be okay. Like nothing happened.

Except it did.

And as he lay in bed, unable to find sleep, he played the moment over again.

He was just curious and horny, that's all it was.
