Chapter 1: The Nights I've Spent Here

Chapter Text

"The sky is beautiful, isn't it?"Tommy said to the stuffed bear sitting next to him like it was a real person.

Tommy would spend his restless nights in this abandoned park. He didn't know why it was abandoned. It was such a beautiful place, but sadly it wasn't very clean, and would be frequently visited by little critters. Tommy became good friends with these animals, and would probably consider them his only friends.

Tommy spent most of the night caring for the plants, which some of them he proudly grew himself. He also tried to work on cleaning up the park since it was abandoned. It was old and rusty and the plants a bit unkempt. He always wanted to clean this place up and make his own little paradise, but this job would take a lot more than just Tommy. Either way this little secret garden has and will always be Tommy's little paradise.

Although this child looked rough and dirty, he was in fact a prince, the fourth kid of the emperor. Of course he didn't always look as untidy as he does now, I mean come on he is a prince after all. Tommy was currently wearing his comfort clothes, a blue cardigan he knitted himself with the wool of his former friend. Since he made it himself it was a bit bad in its looks but he loves it. On top of that he wore old gardeners overalls, which he had found in the shed of the green house.

The green house is where he'd usually spend his nights, and this night he had felt a little extra tired. And fell asleep at an actual decent time? This was not something that usually happened. Most nights, Tommy would only sleep really late and for a short amount of time, or sometimes wouldn't sleep at all. But now he rests in the shed up against his makeshift bed holding his bear tightly.

Chapter 2: An Odd Encounter

Notes:

To represent sarcasm I use *blah blah blah*

And when someone is thinking I use 'blah blah blah'

Chapter Text

Tommy woke in shock. He had been woken by the alarming sounds of a cop car. Tommy was curious of what could be happening so serious that the police would need to be involved? Since Tommy had nowhere else to be (he got in a fight with the emperor and when this usually happens he stays away for about 3 days) he decided to investigate.
He walked over towards the left corner of the park searching for the fence, but to his surprise he heard a thud followed by the sound of a boy saying ow? But that's not possible, no one knows of this park nor should anyone be near it. Or that Is at least what Tommy thought. Tommy began searching for the noise, when he found a short boy. Tommy was a bit startled but kept his cool.

"What are you doing here, thief?" Tommy said with a snarl and his arms crossed.

"I'm not a thief. And help would be nice. " the much shorter boy said with a stern tone

"...Sorry" Tommy mumbled although it was to quite to be heard

Tommy reached his hand out to the boy on the floor. The boy looked at the hand and accepted the help after hesitating for a bit. The boy got up and shook the dirt off his jeans. As he did Tommy examined the shorter boy. He wore a green button down that was a bit dirty and had some holes, but had a beautifully made patch of a bee on his left pocket on his shirt. The boy also wore dark jeans that were also a bit ripped and dirty, but something different caught Tommys eye. He had a lot of gold coins stuffed into a pocket and an odd key.

"So what's your name?" Tommy asked gently

"... Tubbo." The shorter said with a confused
look.

"Yours? " Tubbo asked Tommy

"Yours what? " Tommy asked confused

"Your name idiot! " Tubbo said with a small laugh

"Oh sorry it's...Tommy" Tommy said embarrassed from his misunderstanding.

"So,.. Tubbo, if you're not a thief then why do you have so many coins and that key." Tommy said with a smirk.

"What!? can I not carry my pocket money around!? "Tubbo said feeling disrespected

" I know for a fact that you don't have that kind of money with those clothes" Tommy said in joking disgust.

"You don't look so Royal yourself " tubbo said to get back at Tommy.

Tommy stayed silent. Tubbo assumed he was embarrassed about *Tubbo's totally awesome roast😎*.After a bit of silence Tommy was examining Tubbo again. He realized that he had 3 cuts and some bruises.

'Man this kid must get hurt easily it was just a small jump. Although the fence does have sharp points?' Tommy thought to himself.

"Sooo… shall we get you help for your wounds?" Tommy politely asked.

"My what?... Oh shi-" Tubbo said, surprised to see he was bleeding, And quite a bit.

Tommy and tubbo walked off to the shed to get their first aid kit and clean the wounds. Tubbo was a bit slower as it was just a bit hard to walk even though it was small cuts.

Chapter 3: A Unexpected Friend

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Tommy was sitting at the pump of the trough trying to use the rusty pump to get water, but found it to be quite difficult.

"Do you need help?" Tubbo asked, trying to hold back laughter while watching Tommy clearly struggle.

"WHAT, NO!? I'M A BIG MAN I CAN DO IT MYSELF JUST FINE. "Tommy said, almost offended by the offer of help…Then Tubbo laughed. Tommy had never made anyone laugh like that before. It made him feel amazing. He couldn't help but smile, and Tubbo's laugh was very contagious. Tommy soon found himself laughing right along with him. Tommy felt as though he made a friend. But he shouldn't expect him to be his friend. Tubbo just needed help after all. Then he was out in a jiffy. Either way it's not like anyone would want to be Tommy's friend, just like dad told him, no one would ever choose to be with him, Tommy insisted, tying to convince himself to not get attached.

" Okay man, let me just help!" Tubbo said, trying to catch his breath, and not laugh even more.

Tubbo was actually very strong which kind of contradicted his whole vibe and how he looked. It shocked Tommy but at least he got the water running.

"Thanks" Tommy mumbled again, but this time Tubbo did hear.

"No problem Big Man, that's what friends are for! " Tubbo said with a bright smile.

'Friends?...TUBBO CONSIDERA ME A FRIEND!!??...Will he be my first friend? Was he being serious?' Tommy thought. Yes he was excited, but more importantly he was nervous. What if Tubbo didn't mean it? After a moment of silence which made Tubbo slightly confused as they were just sitting there in silence, Tommy asked,

"Tubbo, are we actually friends?"

"Well of course we are, Boss Man! what? Are we not friends? " Tubbo asked confused

"Well we just met and I'm not all too good at making friends, and...I've never really had friends? " Tommy said a bit embarrassed

"Well then I'll be your first Toms! " Tubbo said with the biggest smile Tommy had ever seen. Tommy was surprised by the sudden new nickname. He liked it tough, it made him feel special? Since he liked it he thought Tubbo would like one too, so he gave a small thanks.

"Thank you, Tubs," Tommy replied with a gentle smile.

You could tell Tubbo liked it as well. Tubbo gave a small smile when he heard Tommy give him a nickname. It made Tubbo happy and excited for this new friendship. In all honesty Tubbo had found making friends hard like Tommy. Tubbo's "family" had always been poor, and other kids his age would try to avoid him or bully him. So Tommy would be Tubbo's only current friend, but Tubbo was fine with that, he could tell this friendship was going to be the best he'd ever had.

Notes:

I don't know if I'm making it really seem like them? So if you guys have any tips on how to make them seem more like themselves I'll appreciate it!

Chapter 4: Tour

Chapter Text

After Tommy had patched tubbo's wounds up, Tommy decided to give Tubbo a quick tour of the park. The park was fairly big, but to be quite honest there's not much in it. As Tommy was walking Tubbo towards the path, they began talking. They were talking as though they had been friends for years, and Tommy adored it. Tommy was telling Tubbo all about his little critter friends he had met, even the really weird ones that shouldn't have been there.

He had named most of them, and to be quite frank Tommy was very proud of the names, which Tubbo had found pretty funny. Tommy was telling Tubbo about all the adventures he had with these animals and the weird encounters with them. Like when all of a
Sudden a cow ran through the gate and was acting very crazy and Tommy thought it was odd, but he fell in love with the cow. He had named the cow henry. Tommy described him as skrunkly. Tubbo had laughed so hard it made his stomach hurt and was so confused about what the word was.

Since they were on the topic of animals Tommy asked Tubbo about the patch on his shirt pocket. It was a patch of a bee with 3 flowers under it. Tubbo was quite proud of it, actually. To Tommy's surprise Tubbo had made it himself.

Then Tubbo went on and on about how his favorite animal was bees. Tommy was so excited to hear that. Not only since Tommy was also quite fond of bees, but because he had a flower patch which for some reason bees were really attracted to. Tommy immediately grabbed tubbo, and rushed him over to the flower patch.

As soon as they turned the curve Tubbo immediately saw what Tommy wanted to show him. There were about 30 bees, and Tubbo squealed when he saw all of them. Bees had always been Tubbo's favorite animal even when he was little. Tubbo wasn't scared of bees unlike most kids, in fact he adored them.

Chapter 5: He Admits It

Chapter Text

The two kids were now sitting on a bench in front of the flower patch just talking about little meaningless things. It felt like a dream to Tommy, he always wanted to have a friendship like this where the words just flowed. Tommy would probably remember this moment forever: the cold breeze, the smell of flowers, the clear sky, the bees, all the grooves in the wooden bench, and Of course Tommy's favorite part of it all, Tubbo's laughter. Tommy would probably consider it his favorite sound in the world right now. He loved making Tubbo laugh, in fact he made it his goal in the conversation. Tommy loved having a friend, especially Tubbo.

They were currently talking about the garden, and Tommy was curious about something. How did Tubbo actually come across finding the park? At first Tubbo was hesitant on answering, but he thought Tommy wouldn't really care, so he said.

"In all honesty it just happened to be in the way I was running...as you guessed I mayyyyy have actually been *borrowing* some things."

That made Tommy chuckle. Although it was pretty obvious that Tubbo wasn't actually borrowing it but stealing it, Tommy did wonder why he needed that money, and whatever that key was.

"So… why did you steal?, and what was that key for? " Tommy asked

"Wellllll I was actually planning to run away and I didn't have any money so I just stole some, but to be fair it wasn't thattt much. Just enough to get me a few towns away." Tubbo replied

But this did not help Tommy's curiosity, because it just caused more questions. Like why he wanted to run away, and why he avoided the key questions, or if he needed a place to stay or more money, and if he was still planning to leave his new friend. However Tommy didn't want to bombard Tubbo with all these questions, and make Tubs uncomfortable, so he just asked the first one.

"Why did you run away? You don't have to answer If It'd make you uncomfortable" Tommy said worryingly.

"In all honesty I just felt tired of how we were living. It was just me and my father in that house and my father didn't have a job and always spent our money. I really did try to help him and take care of him, but I just can't anymore. It's just too much. I left him all our money so he should be okay, and his sister visits often so maybe she can help him. She has always been the sweetest lady. But I just wanted to get out of there." Tubbo said in somewhat of an emotionless tone, he must really have been tired of it.

Tommy was at a loss of words. He honestly did feel incredibly bad for tubbo, but he felt like just saying sorry wouldn't help or do anything. Tommy wanted to help tubbo, but he just didn't know how. So Tommy just hugged Tubbo, because words could not describe his heart's desire to help his best friend.

Tubbo was a bit startled by this, but quickly took in the situation and what just happened and immediately hugged Tommy back. Shutting his eyes as tight as possible but no tears would come. Tubbo had always been tired of the situation, and he used to only wish for a way home. Not that home, but a real home. Now he realized that his home was Tommy.

They just sat there in silence. Even though it was silent they were still communicating through their feelings and sorrow. It was all genuine, not even an ounce of pity.

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

After finally breaking the hug, and sitting in silence for a while again. Feeling a bit awkward, but also at the same time feeling at home with each other. Tubbo was the first to speak. Forwarding Tommy's last question to him.

"So what were you doing in the garden? You never told me. " Tubbo asked, repeating Tommy's last question.

"Well I'm actually kind of living here for a bit" Tommy answered with a smile.

"WAIT ARE YOU HOMELESS!?, I'M SORRY TO HEAR THAT BIG T" Tubbo said feeling a bit embarrassed for asking and feeling bad.

Tommy immediately freaked out and dismissed the accusations. "WHAT NO NO!! I'M JUST STAYING HERE FOR A BIT!" Tommy said, swiftly moving his hands in a x shaped pose and clamping his eyes shut.

"...Oh sorry" Tubbo said giggling at the end

"I'll probably just stay here for a few more days, maybe 3? Then I'll head home… if you'd.. Like? You could stay here with me if you don't have a place to stay…" Tommy said nervously worried Tubbo would think he was weird or some sort of creep.

"I mean I have a pretty nice set up in the shed and when I do have to go I can visit you often! " Tommy spoke with much more confidence and grinning very wide.

"That'd be so cool! If it's okay with you I'd love to stay Big Man!" Tubbo said, smiling even bigger than before if that was even possible.

Chapter 7: Our New Home

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Tommy was leading Tubbo to the greenhouse, to show him where he'd be staying. Most of the walk Tubbo was questioning about how'd this work, and the living conditions. Tommy had answered everything pretty quickly. Tommy had been prepared for questions.

They had everything settled. Tommy would bring Tubbo some of his belongings, like clothes in the morning, they'd eat from the garden or Tommy would bring food, there were already blankets and the basic needs in the shed, and Tommy showed Tubbo how to leave the park, so he could leave when he wanted. When they arrived at the greenhouse Tommy gave Tubbo a tour. First Tommy showed off his pets, and plants asking Tubbo to take care of them as well.

Then he moved on to where Tubbo was staying, the shed. It was a pretty big room cut off into different sections, the entrance and three others. If they are standing from the entrance the room that Tubbo will be staying in is to the right. The entrance was made of a dark brown wood with red accents along all the edges, the entrance had no door, it was wide open and was arched. But over the arch, was a red curtain with yellow stars that opened in the middle.

The room behind it was a decent size and on the wall across from the entrance was a loft bed with a ladder down, and under the bed was 2 double chests that had 2 plants on top. Connected to the left side of the bed was a hammock, which Tommy explained that's where he usually slept, and Tubbo could sleep on the bed. Above the two beds were a window above each that opened outwards to reveal the sky. Tubbo thought this place was pretty and comfortable, and tubbo couldn't wait to make it his new home.

Chapter 8: Sneaking In

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Tommy and Tubbo had now settled into the shed. It was already night and Tubbo had fallen asleep. Which meant now was Tommy's chance to go back to the castle, and retrieve some supplies for Tubbo. Tommy quietly made his way out of the room, trying to not wake up Tubbo.

Tommy went to the room across from the bedroom. Inside the room was a small dresser, and 2 smaller rooms inside one was the toilet, and the other the shower. Tommy took a quick shower before heading over to the dresser. He found his uniform and swiftly put it on. It was a flowing cuffed white shirt, with a blue vest over top, with a bow around the collar as well as on the sleeve, with some basic matching blue pants that had darker blue stripes. Tommy then put his hair into a small ponytail in the back, because he had no time to try to fix his rough hair. He then quickly stepped into his shoes, and left the shed.

He walked to the top left corner of the park where there was a whole in the fence covered with vines. He crossed to the other side, and made his way to the front of the castle. The guards let him through knowing who was passing except for one who Tommy was quite familiar with. Right before entering the door. A guard stopped him, standing in front of the door. Tommy sighed.

"Sapnap… you know who I am, just let me in. " Tommy spoke with almost a whiny tone.

The guard remained silent. Tommy pushed his way through the guard and of course the guard didn't fight and let Tommy through. Tommy stormed off, becoming a bit faster. The guard quickly caught up walking with him while trying to talk.

The guard called out "...tommy! '' being able to hear a frown in his voice. Putting a hand on the boy's shoulder Tommy stopped and turned to face the guard, but avoided eye contact.

" what Sapnap.. "Tommy mumbled

" ...Tommy, you know you can't continue doing this. " Sapnap said, getting Tommy to look at him both their faces pulled into worry and sadness.

"You were gone for a month last time tommy!"
Sapnap almost shouted. Tommy stayed silent trying to look away again. Sapnap just tilted his head down.

"...We were worried we missed you" Sanap whispered. You could see Tommy's face contort with anger.

"NO! SAPNAP YOUR WRONG YOU WERE THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICED, AND YOU KNOW GODDAMN WELL YOU WERE THE ONLY ONE WHO CARED… and if anyone would know it would be you. You're literally my brother's best friend. You know he only talks shit about me, and bullies me. Stop pretending Sapnap." Tommy said loud enough to show his rage but not loud enough to disturb the ones sleeping in the house.

Sapnap says nothing knowing it's true and not wanting to lie to the prince. Sapnap feels defeated, and lets go of Tommy. Tommy not saying anything either just walks off stomping a bit.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Tommy continues his journey up the main hall, trying to forget his confrontation with Sapnap quickly. Tommy makes it out of the hall and to the main entrance. From there he makes his way up the dual staircase. When he reached the top of the staircase his eyes met with the thing he hates most: the painting on the wall. Tommys face slowly becomes more aggressive as he stops to have a stare down with the painting. Tommys always hated that painting, he wished he could just rip it off the walls and lock it away forever.

The painting was a portrait painted from when Tommy was just a baby. But the whole painting was a lie. The painting Described a scene of a mother holding her sweet child, and a father by their side, as well as an older kid looking fondly at the baby. Although like Tommy had mentioned it was just some stupid scam. None of that ever happened.

Their mother was far too sick to even be around their family, and their father couldn't even bother to be around the kids too busy blaming them. Although not all of it was a lie, his brother was there for him, at the time trying to make the younger feel better. That part made Tommy feel better about the painting, but it didn't fix his rage.

Tommy remembered why he was here in the first place, and decided to get back on track. He moved down the hallway on the right, stopping at the last door on the right, Tommys room.

Chapter 10: Announcement

Chapter Text

I'm about to orphan this fic!!

It's been a long time since Ive posted on Ao3 but I'm back and obviously the dream smp is over and quite a lot of it's members are now problematic (at least the main problematic ones were to be villains in the story) or they have sadly passed rest in peace technoblade and fuck cancer. So I will be posting the few chapters I had written in advance. I don't plan on finishing this unless someone for some reason really cares about it. I might plan on at least writing my notes on where I wanted this story to go if anybody is interested though.

Chapter 11: Preparation

Chapter Text

Tommy opened the door and headed straight to the closet, where he'd keep most of his clothes, and extra emergency items. He grabbed the red backpack from the corner and started stuffing it with basic needs, like water, snacks, extra clothes, ect. He also packed a few less needed gifts for Tubbo like, a green blanket which Tommy learned was Tubbo's favorite color, as well as an old bee stuffy Tommy had from when he'd hyper fixate on bees, and other little things. When Tommy made it out of the closet he heard another familiar voice, his step brother: dream. Wow I really can't have a moment without conflict in this house. Tommy thought to himself when he saw his kind brother.

"Well, well what do we have here? Planning to run away again Tom? " Dream said with a sly grin that looked way too real for him not to be enjoying this.

"Just leave me alone, Dream." Tommy glared at him, placing his bag down and making his way to sit in his bed.

"Wow wow! I'm not trying to cause a problem here! " Dream flung his hands up in defense, a stupid grin plastered onto his face.

"When are you not trying to cause a problem, Dream." Tommy looked very irritated.

Dream's face went expressionless. "So what are you even doing, don't you already have enough stuff wherever you go? "Dream asked genuinely curious.

"Oh wait! Is it that you've found another critter friend! " Dream said, mocking Tommy, and laughing afterwards.

Tommy already knew that telling Dream about Tubbo wouldn't be a good idea, so Tommy decided to try and make Dream think he was right. Tommy stayed quiet and looked away angrily, to insinuate Dream was right, and Dream fell for it.

Dream laughed and said "well good luck with your new friend" as he walked out closing Tommy's door. As soon as the door shut Tommy fell back into his bed sighing, being relieved Dream believed him. After a bit of just laying there Tommy got up and grabbed his backpack. Then he left his room.

Chapter 12: Going back home

Chapter Text

Tommy walked to the beginning of the stairs giving the painting one last glare before leaving. Then he walked down and saw through the window it was almost light out already. Tommy had no idea when Tubbo would be awake, but he decided while he was still here, he could make them some breakfast. Since it was so early Tommy didn't have to worry about kitchen staff being there, and just waltzed right in. Tommy wasn't the best cook, having never really had to cook, as he was usually served whenever he wanted, but Tommy still considered himself decent. But to everyone else just to say it plainly Tommy was shit at cooking. Yes he could cook decently, but with frequent mistakes. So Tommy made something simple. Just some eggs, and toast. How could he fuck up that right? I mean it's pretty hard to mess up something as simple as eggs and toast.

Somehow Tommy still almost managed to burn down the kitchen. The toast was pretty beyond just toast at this point, and the eggs were probably more shell than actual eggs, but it was better than nothing! Tommy wrapped up the food, and carried it out with him. He did pass Sapnap again but they both decided to pretend but they couldn't see each other. Both looking the opposite way.

Tommy finally made it out and crawled through the whole of the fence again. When he made it back inside the shed. He changed back into the clothes he was previously wearing, and went through the center door arch. Past the arch was a room filled with chest stacked to the roof except for on the right where another door was. Tommy went through that door, which led to a kitchen, and dining room. Tommy placed the breakfast in the small fridge, thinking Tubbo wouldn't be up for another while. After Tommy went back to the room Tubbo was sleeping in and slept on his hammock. Holding his teddy bear tight in his arms.

Chapter 13: Our First Day Together

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Around 6 am is when Tommy woke up again, but it took another 3 hours for Tubbo to wake up. But when he did wake up he was incredibly hungry. And Tommy had the perfect thing to help that! The breakfast he made! Tommy quickly brought tubbo to the kitchen and sat him down at the table. Tommy reheated his homemade meal, and set it on plates for himself, and Tubbo. At first the eggs and toast looked decent, not the best looking but nothing seemed wrong about it, but Tubbo did get a slightly off putting feeling about it. Tubbo ignored it though and was about to take a bite when Tommy took his first bite of eggs and Tubbo could hear a very loud crunching sound '. . . . Wtf ' Tubbo thought. Tommy continued eating as if nothing was wrong, while Tubbo just watched with a wtf? face. Tubbo was very confused and thought maybe it was just a special twist and it would be good? So he took a bite, and immediately grimaced, spitting out the eggs. Tubbo swiftly stood up and walked over to a confused Tommy, grabbing his wrist and pulling him up. Tommy winced at this, but it wasn't heard or seen by Tubbo.

"WTF WAS THAT BOSS MAN!? WHO MADE THIS THING???? " Tubbo practically screamed in disgust.

"... What's wrong with it? I made it. " Tommy asked, insulted by Tubbo's reaction.

"I know I'm not the best but I thought it was fine?" Tommy continued.

"... *Oh um no it was amazing! I just wanted to show you a better recipe!!* " Tubbo said, not wanting to make Tommy think his food isn't shit, which it is.

"Um okay what is it then? " Tommy pondered.

oppsies looks like I forgot to finish this chapter sorry😭
