(When I become a hero)

Summary:

He didn’t know how far he actually used to be from being a hero, until now, that he has a real opportunity to be one.

After having to realize exactly that, leaving his parents behind and changing districts, Tommy is finally ready to meet new people and achieve his dream of saving people fighting crime.

So, world of villains, be afraid of what is coming when Tommy Innet becomes a hero.

(If you hadn't read part 1, you should, it would help understand a lot of things what will be mentioned here, only the part 1 of this series is required)

Notes:

//PART 2 FINALLY HERE LET'S GOO - THIS IS BACK!

I'm so excited, there will be more than 33 chapters, I just hadn't wrote them yet but I wanted to start posting as soon as possible (The date that I have planed already passed and I'm so mad with myself for that one)

Again, we are having short (+500 words, less than 1000) and uploading Wednesdays and Saturdays around this time, I hope I can finish the rest before I run out of things to post

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Halfway there.

Chapter Text

Was it really today the last day in his home? The lack of decoration in his room and the suitcases were a good reference to know the answer. He only had the things that he will need to use before going away, after all.

Most of his belongings were already divided in between the two cars from the L’manburg team. His team now.

The paperwork was more of a hassle than he expected, even if Dream didn't object to following it and fully understood the decision. But after an extra week of the team staying in Essempi, Tommy was finally allowed to leave and work there.

They had a 4 hour trip that Tommy took with Fundy and Niki. He almost felt like he had been with them for less time, actually.

They talked about gossip, how Techno slept way too much and Wilbur too few, or how Phil had this bad habit of adopting childrens (letting them stay in his home until they learned how to control their power and then go back with their family).

They also taught him things about their own powers, little curiosities like Niki being able to breath under water and Fundy being able to create holograms with particles that, for some reason, loved to be around a guy named Ranboo.

When he asked who that was, they just said “You will see” and changed the topic.

He would never admit how happy that statement made him feel or how excited he actually was to be able to just see whatever magic person they wanted him to meet.

He had waited too long to be taken as a hero, he had to repeat himself that he could wait for a couple hours more now.

When they got to the border between L’manburg and Essempi everything seemed more real, Niki, who was driving, handed an officer their papers and, when they saw that all was good, they were welcomed to the district that Tommy could now call home.

Then, they had about an hour and a half to get to the main city, where the headquarters and his new home was.

Of course, they went to where he was going to live first. It was a big flat with departments that, apparently, was where most of the heroes lived.

It was nothing to do with the hero profession, actually. Just like any other job, they didn't care if heroes didn't have where to live, and that's how it all started.

Niki explained that Phil was the first one to move there, when Wilbur and Techno were still young and, when both brothers decided to have their own spaces, they decided to rent an apartment in the same place.

Fundy then explained that, when he was kicked out of his house, Wilbur practically adopted him and let him live there and, again, he stayed in the same building when he decided to become independent.

Tommy did ask why he had been kicked out, although he was a little afraid of touching a sensitive subject that might make the hero uncomfortable.

“It was for the best, actually, they never accepted who I was, they expected me to be someone who I wasn’t” Was his response and Tommy didn’t push the topic further.

Then Niki quickly continued talking about how she got there thanks to Phil. She was already a hero for that moment, and her landlord decided that she wasn't going to live there anymore, for some reason, kicking her out by the end of the month.

She laughed at how she was so stressed with finding a new place that she did really bad at training but Phil, instead of getting mad at her or something, he bought the whole building (one by one, first an apartment, then another and now he owned them all) that he lived in only to make sure that no other landlord will ever do that to her or anyone else.

Every hero in L’manburg knew that they had a place to go to and, even if Phil assured them that they didn’t have to pay rent, they did it anyway. He ended up accepting the payment only to stop finding money hidden in his house (his wife loves to have small pots with flowers outside and they used to hide money in them).

Before starting with the transfer of headquarters, the whole L’manburg team joined Tommy’s family for dinner and they explained that the kid could either live in one of the apartments or with Phil if he (or his parents, because maybe they would feel safer if Tommy wasn’t living alone) wanted.

Of course, Tommy chose his own sector and nobody objected.

And now, they were here, both cars in front of the building in another district where his dream would become true.

Chapter 2: Knowing the place and the people.

Notes:

I'm gonna tell you guys a fun fact: When I was going to write this chapter I ended up making the building in the Sims 4 bc I needed it to orientate myself in the place they were going to live
I spent maybe 5 and a half hours on it and then forgot why I needed it but it was funn

Chapter Text

The place is pretty, it feels homey and modern at the same time, and the knowledge that any of the other heroes were so close to him if he ever needed them was the best part.

It has 8 floors and a basement, where there is a garage, and each floor has 4 apartments. He got door A on the 5th.

They gave him a little tour before telling him that they were going to come back in an hour to go to Phil's house to eat lunch tougher and, soon enough, he was alone.

He couldn't hide his excitement anymore, now that nobody was there to judge him, so he started running around and pinching his arm to prove himself that he wasn't dreaming.

The place was furnished already, he had a desk with a fancy gamer-chair and a PC in the hallway, a room with a double bed and TV (there were two of them, actually, one there and the other in the kitchen-dining room) on the wall, a balcony. Everything was perfect.

All the boxes were already there as well and he started unpacking the most important things, leaving a "Tommy was here" mark, figuratively speaking.

Then, he took some photos of the place and texted his parents, telling them that his new place was awesome and that he made it there safely, as expected.

All of them were waiting excitedly for their vacations, when the summer break was over (because it’s a quieter time for the restaurant so it won’t be a big loss if they went away for a day or two).

No longer after a little conversation via message, somebody knocked at his door and he said his goodbyes. He wanted to have a shower before going, but his parents entertained him long enough to have to pass it for after dinner.

In the corridor, waiting for him, was Niki, the only one who shares the floor with him, her apartment being B, telling him that everyone was already in Phil’s place, waiting for them.

They got into the elevator after making sure that they weren’t forgetting something and, while they were going up, she started to explain to Tommy that there were a lot of people willing to know him.

“There are only two heroes now, they live here so it was easier, but you are going to meet the rest later today, when we get to the headquarters” She said briefly, before the elevator got to the 8th floor.

Unlike the rest of the floors, the eighth does not have a corridor that leads to the 4 doors of each apartment, instead they are greeted by a single double wooden door, adorned with many plants around it, most of them fake.

In front of it, there was a brown rug with a little crow design.

Niki knocked at the door and, minutes later, a big and beautiful woman opened the door. Tommy felt lost for a moment, he was expecting the homeowner to be on the other side, but after she started talking everything made sense.

“Hi Niki! Oh, you must be Tommy, it’s a real pleasure to meet you! Phil talked a lot about you in the phone calls, I’m Kristin” She greeted, while moving out of the way so they could go in.

Of course Tommy knew who she was. One of the homeowners, non than less. Phil’s wife. Wilbur and Techno’s mother.

He only heard good things about her, not from the press, like every other hero he did, because she isn’t considered a hero per se, even if she is.

Maybe she does not work among the heroes, she decided on another profession that saved more lives than they can count (even more than they can imagine, even more than what she will admit).

She was the mastermind behind their train center (as they called it, something really different to a test center) and she made sure that every kid and adult could live with the hardness of their own power without the science involved.

What she does is, also, highly illegal, but that wasn’t bothering anyone since 3 of the best heroes in here are on her side. They had some close calls, of course, Wilbur told him that one day they had to fake a kindergarten in the place to avoid the consequences of their acts.

With the few stories he heard from her, he admired her, like, a lot. He almost felt bad for not remembering that he was going to meet her here.

But he didn’t have time to express himself because she and Niki started walking to the kitchen-dining room where everyone was waiting.

Chapter 3: Meeting traitors and weirdos.

Notes:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RANBOO AND HAPPY DIA DE MUERTOS FOR EVERYONE. He won't read this, of course, but I will gift you guys this because we should celebrate (It is also an offering for c!Ranboo, this is multitasking and being efficient)

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Tommy stayed there for a second, looking around the hall, when a big black thing flew over his head, going full speed behind the other two. He followed close behind.

As well as the rest of the house, everything was big: the table, the kitchen counter, an island, even the pan over the furnace was big, but that made sense, there were about 8 people in the room after all.

He still had no clue of what the hell he saw but one person, the only one Tommy didn’t recognize (or have met already because if there was a hero, Tommy knew them thanks to his own investigations) got closer to him immediately.

“Hi! You must be Tommy, it’s a pleasure to meet you, I’m Eret, or maybe you know me as monarch, I use any pronouns” They said, pulling a hand for Tommy to take.

He had read about her, of course, he knew about almost every hero from every district, and he had to contain himself from asking questions about his powers.

“Nice to meet you” He managed to say instead.

“Oh, you met the traitor already, don’t get too attached” Wilbur said jokingly, joining their conversation “they are leaving in a few months”

“Oh, come on, Wilbur, I’m not a traitor” Eret responded with a laugh.

“Of course not, it’s not like you are leaving us for the Essempi district, oh, wait, you are” The other responded, giving Tommy enough context for him to understand what was happening. His tone was more amused than incriminating or angry.

“Leaving? But aren’t you the head of this district? Like, the elected representative or whatever?”

“I am now, the elections are in two months and Phil is going to take my place, probably, so I will go”

He really wanted to know why he wanted to go, if something happened or if he just wanted to change something in his life, people did that sometimes and there could be a million reasons as to why, but it also felt a little bit personal to ask. It wasn't his problem, after all.

For that matter, Tommy wanted to know and ask way too many things, not only that, he just didn’t know the limit of what they wanted to share with him.

Lucky enough, before the silence became awkward because all of them got stuck in their own minds, Phil told them that food was ready, asking for help to set the table.

His eyes traveled to the older hero, who was stirring a sauce in a pan and, on his shoulder, a big black bird was seated.

Everyone else moved in command, grabbing things from everywhere and ignoring the weird animal in the room, except Tommy, who didn't know where to find anything.

Kristin seemed to notice that, he was just standing in the door of the kitchen looking lost after all, so she gave him a simpler task.

“Why don’t you go to look for Ranboo?” She said, getting closer to him and taking him to the living room and pointing to a door.

He nodded and she left to the kitchen again. He really should do a list with all the questions he wants to ask but doesn’t.

Paying more attention while walking to the place he was indicated, he noticed that every door was labeled, there were two with the sign “bathroom”, two that said “office”, another that read “Phil & Kristin” and, the one he was heading to, said “Ranboo”.

He knocked when he was in front of it, after hesitating a bit. He was sent to call this person so he couldn't just go back to the kitchen alone, but at the same time the unknown was enough for him to consider the idea of doing so.

It was weird for him not to know somebody, but Niki said that he was going to meet two heroes, and he met one plus Kristin (that clearly wasn’t considered one because there was another person he hadn't met before in the other room).

He also heard stories about a Ranboo guy that attracted Fundy’s particles in their way here.

Minutes after, the door opened and a really tall guy with mismatched skin (probably vitiligo, one side being black and the other way too pale white) and eyes (one green and the other a reddish-brown, undoubtedly heterochromia) color.

Both of them stared at each other for a few seconds, never looking into the other's eyes, before Tommy spat the first thing that came to his mind.

“Pronouns?” Ok, listen, it probably wasn’t the best introduction ever, but he panicked, he forgot everything that he was meant to say and only remembered Eret presenting herself with a pronoun clarification.

“No, I’m good, thanks” The mismatched guy said, confusing them both more than before.

“Pardon?”

“What?”

“Sorry, let’s start this again” He said, trying to ignore the weird interaction “I’m Tommy, lunch is ready”

“Oh, hi, I’m Ranboo, I’ll be there in a minute”

The door closed again and he stayed there for a moment before noticing that he was supposed to go back to the kitchen already.

Notes:

The chapter was going to have a description of Phil's apartment but I failed miserably at describing, Eret and Tommy were going to meet in the living room even.

Either way, if you want to see how I think it looks like, click here.

Now I feel the need to explain the hierarchy here:
Eret, just like Dream, was elected to represent the rest of the heroes to the government, they can't leave the district because they have to keep an eye in everything here, that's why she sent Phil, Wilbur, Techno, Niki and Fundy to Essempi for the collab.
The characters from L'manburg that went to Essempi in the other story are like, the second in command, just because Eret trusts them, just like Dream would send George, Sapnap and/or Bad (and, by default, Skeppy, they can't be separated bc Bad is not a hero per se, but you already know that).

Also! Kristin is used to bring kids from work if they need a safe place to stay so they have a special room with various kid beds and toys for when they are there and have labels in their doors for the shy ones that are scared to ask where everything is so they don't get lost (And for Ranboo, the poor guy forgets were the bathroom is 24/7)

Chapter 4: New family, new normal.

Notes:

I'm like an hour late, sorry about that

And also I'M TIRED OF ALL THE FUCKING FANFICS WHERE PHIL HAS A CROW CALLED "TWITCH" WHEN HE HAS ALL THAT STORY WITH HIS TEXT-TO-SPEECH CALLED BRIAN, LIKE, WHY DOES NO ONE THINK ABOUT HIM? That's literally the only reason of why I added him, this is a protest, hope you enjoy it

Chapter Text

When Tommy got to the place where everyone else was he went immediately to Phil, who was serving what seemed like the last two dishes of pasta, the bird nowhere to be seen.

“Can I ask you a question about that Ranboo guy?”

“Have you met them already? Is he coming?”

“Uh, yes and yes but- I asked about pronouns and-” Tommy started asking and was interrupted by a weird noise from Phil.

“Yeah, no, that’s a complicated question, we use he/them but they actually don’t understand what that means. We have explained it for him but they just forget because of severe memory problems”

“Oh, ok” He said, keeping more questions for himself when Phil passed him the dishes served and Ranboo entered the room.

Everyone was seated already when they got to the table so he just took the only place available, passing one of the dishes and keeping the other one.

In the middle of lunch, the same huge bird flew over their heads to go to where Phil was and then perched on his shoulder.

Again, nobody even moved.

“I'm not the only person seeing that big bird, am I?” He asked, shocked as to why nobody even reacted to the appearance of it.

“Brian? Nah, we are just used to him going around, that’s it” Wilbur replied calmly with his mouth still full.

“Oh, shit, I totally forgot to tell you about my crow, Tommy, this is Brian, he is a little shit and can’t drink water correctly but he is very smart otherwise” Phil proceeded to explain, indicating the bird to go towards him.

Brian flew to his shoulder and elegantly landed there.

“Hello catKISS” The crow said then, as if it made any sense, with a deep voice that surprised him.

For the rest of the time, the conversation was calm and constant and, before anyone knew it, the food was gone but everyone stayed where they were (Except the bird, who flew away after Tommy stopped paying him attention).

“I wish I had some time to bake something” Niki said sadly once she noticed that the meal was over and it was the perfect time for the dessert.

“Don’t worry, I bought an ice cream cake to celebrate” Eret said, getting up and helping to pick up the dishes from the table, everyone else joining seconds after.

With all the helping hands, it took only a few minutes for all of them to be back sitting, now eating the cold sweet: An oreo ice cream cake.

Nobody talked about work all dinner, Tommy noticed, always talking about everything else except hero-related stuff, but when everyone finished what they were eating and the dishwasher was full, the plans for the day were brought up.

“We have to be at the headquarters in about two hours, Niki, Techno, Wilbur and Ranboo, you will take the morning shift so you guys will stay” Eret said, taking the roll that belonged to them.

Wilbur seemed like he wasn’t all that happy with that, either because he does not like the morning shift of because he wanted to go now, Tommy didn’t know, but Niki said something in a whisper, that nobody else but Wilbur could listen, and he shut up the unspoken words immediately.

“Do I need to grab something before we go?” Tommy asked Phil, genuinely lost, when all the guests started leaving the kitchen, reuniting in the next room before going outside.

He only lived something like this once and he does not remember what happened or if this was going to be anywhere similar to that experience.

“Mainly no, we are going to have a reunion to talk about contact and legal things” The hero started explaining, walking Tommy to the living room, where most of the people were already leaving.

Both available elevators arrived at the same time, everyone (except for Kristin, Phil and Ranboo who stood at the door saying goodbye because, well, they live there) heading to their respective floors and apartments.

Tommy got his so wanted shower, talked to his parents a little more, and then went to the Soot’s house again. Not long after, the rest of the expected people arrived as well and they all descended to the garage.

The four of them took one of the cars with tinted windows —Phil’s, Tommy recognized— and started the first (of many) journey to the camouflaged building where heroes worked.

It took them about 10 ish minutes to get to the place and all of them stopped in the dressing room before going to mark their arrival.

It all seemed more real after that.

Chapter 5: Differences and changes.

Notes:

I'm late again, am I? Well, sorry, here you go!

Chapter Text

Tommy didn’t know a lot of things here, to be honest, he was throwing himself into the unknown after all, so when the door of the elevator opened in the main hall of the hero headquarters and everything was a copy of the place he used to work on, it was a little bit shocking.

He knew that this was going to be different, though.

Some heroes tried to stop Eret on their way to the checking station and back to the elevator but Fundy made sure to let everyone know that she was going to be busy until further notice and to ask whatever they needed to him instead.

Finally, they were on the 10th floor, the meeting and press conference dedicated floor, and everything was different.

Dream used to say that they were heroes, so they needed to be serious with their jobs and the place they worked needed to show exactly that, but here things were all colorful that he even wondered if the structure was the same (and he knew it was).

Instead of the formal and sober white, gray and black decoration, everything has a lot of color, without becoming excessive or unpleasant, but rather cheerful.

He liked this a lot more.

The conference office was like that too, where back in Essempi the placement of everything was the same with a weird pattern in the floor and roof made with two types of wood and everything, it was nonidentical.

There was a yellow map, the one he was used to was black, white table in the middle just like the other one, at least 8 chairs that used to be black and now were rainbow colored (in pairs of two: blue, purple, red, orange and yellow), 4 clocks in the wall, a couple of dark gray square armchairs that now were like the ones in the table and what he remembered as a boring light gray courtine that here had a yellow horizontal line.

It definitely looked more welcoming. Even if the changes were minimal.

None of the heroes, used to the room already, paid attention to those things though, grabbing a laptop that had been on the table already, probably waiting for them to arrive, and sitting down.

Eret sat at the end of the table, Phil to his left and Tommy went next to him.

“Well, we are going to go through your contrat first, if that’s ok” Eret started with a serious tone.

“Unless you have some questions, in which case we can answer them now” Phil added, also in a businesslike tone.

He thought for a second. There were way too many, from what was going to happen here and why Phil was with them to what was going to be of him in the future and if he actually was going to be allowed into fights.

“I have some that may be answered later, can I do them if I still have them at the end?” He responded instead, feeling strangely like an equal businessman, something he definitely hadn’t felt before.

“Ok, then, let’s make a contract” Eret said, putting the laptop on a place where the three of them could read what was showing “This is the base of the contract, we can change all we consider proper but it’s to have a starting point”

“It’s also in a legal language that may be difficult to understand so it’s not completely necessary to read it, we are going to explain it all to you” Phil clarified.

They spent the next hour or two, roughly speaking, doing exactly that, in terms easy to understand and letting him ask whenever he needed.

Chapter 6: Last step to make it official.

Notes:

I'm in time today :D
And this is Dadza appreciation chapter, we love that guy here

Chapter Text

They discussed salary (way more than he expected, even if they said it wasn’t a full one since he was in training and they pay for hours in service), hours of work and training (no more than 6 a day that should be balanced between the two activities), days off (He's going to have 3 of those in a week, instead of 2 like the rest, and they have to be agreed upon at the beginning of the month so there's never a shortage of staff), expectations from both parts and many more.

When all of them were satisfied with the result, Eret took the laptop for themselves only to send the file to print and, as if by magic, the printer inside the room began to work.

Things got harder when they got the paper out of it, though, because he needed to lend confirmation with his hero name.

“It’s ok if you don’t have one yet, sign with your real name now, but I will need it to put you in the system for you to start your first shift” Eret relented calmly, just as she had been doing from the beginning.

After that being settled, Phil’s role started to make sense.

It had been nice to have him there, don’t get him wrong, but there had to be an actual reason apart from explaining things because Eret was more than capable to do it alone.

There was one, in fact, and it made Tommy’s heart melt a little bit.

Phil was going to be Tommy’s tutor from now on, and he could change next month if he wanted to.

Phil, who sat next to him for more time than probably necessary, explaining complex terms in more childish like for him to understand, that suggested him to work there in the first place, was trusting him enough to risk his position for him.

Phil, who could be the head of the headquarters next month.

Phil, who had wings and promised to train him so he can fly up to the clouds.

Phil, the one and only.

Tommy wanted to cry. He couldn’t even think how to start to thank him.

But the guy, god bless the only man ever, just signed both of the papers (Tommy’s contract and a monthly sworn declaration that he accepted his apprentice) without making a big deal out of it.

“Now, we can start completing your profile in the system. Dream sent the one you have been using in Essempi but it’s very incomplete” Eret explained, typing a little bit more and not showing them the screen just yet.

The information required was easy, but the report was going to be incomplete anyway so it was ok if they lacked some information.

First thing they had to add was his power, because that slot was completely empty, both Phil and himself giving a very detailed description of it.

His hero name reminded being the same— TommyInnet (that was literally his full name put together)— as well as his age, birth date, allergies and description.

Then, another unknown answer: Super-suit.

“I should have one of those, don’t I?” He said in disbelief, more thinking out loud than asking them. He knew he should, as well as a lot of things that he does not have, but he hadn't stopped to think about that.

Super Suits are epic and he used to make sketches of what his costume was going to be like when he grow up, but he was in elementary school, he only did that to entertain himself because the classes were too boring (or his teachers didn't do enough to make them interesting, which is the same).

None of those ideas seemed good now.

“Yes, you should go talk to our engineer later, this can stay blank for now too” Eret said moderately concerned, already used to all the mistakes (negligence, according to both of the other people in the room) that were made with him.

“But we can look for some ideas and options, if you want” Phil proposed and he immediately accepted.

Chapter 7: The background is moving while the actors are working.

Notes:

I'm sorry I went missing yesterday, I was VERY sick to the point where I couldn't get out of my bed. Now I'm a little better so I'm going to leave you the little chapter <3

Here I stablished that Techno is my social anxiety, Wilbur my general planning anxiety, Tommy is a explosive Golden Retriever and poor Phil is just a normal guy that has to control all that.

Chapter Text

The plans were made days before, when they were still in Essempi, and everyone of them had prayed that they had enough time to get all they needed.

Again, it has been Wilbur the one in charge of everything, only because he was a mad man that woke up at 3 AM with new ideas, wrote them in a never ending list titled “NEEDS” and then got the people that could get those in the morning.

If he put this kind of energy into all his missions, crime would have disappeared from the face of the earth long ago, and he knows it.

Wilbur had been glued to his phone from the moment that he was informed that Tommy was on his way to the headquarters.

Fundy informed him how things were going in the place itself, making sure that the distraction was still working and guiding some people to prepare decorations.

Niki was left at home, she has been baking since they got home and was asking for some supplies that she needed (they counted on her not having everything she needed, it was in the plans, don't worry, breathe, it's not a setback if it's already planned).

His group was in the grocery store with 3 lists.

Wilbur was in charge of Niki’s.

Techno had the drinks, napkins, some disposable cutlery, cups and plates, as well as a snack that they had to take to the headquarters.

Kristin and Ranboo were in charge of stocking Tommy’s kitchen, all basic things that he might need to survive and some things they wanted him to try.

Everything was going great, according to plan, and they optimized the time with a map (that Kristin and Ranboo made when Wilbur told them to find a way to locate whatever they would have to need as fast as possible).

In record time, they were all with 3 full shopping carts ready to pay for it all.

When everything was ready, Group A (Kristin and Ranboo) went back home. They had a copy of Tommy’s apartment key and Niki was waiting for them to finish her cooking.

Group B (Techno and him) were going to the base, ready to be annoying as fuck with the excuse of “looking for perfection”.

Group A + Niki will join them when all pastries were finished, which they calculated 40 ish minutes and 10 to get there.

Fuck, stress again.

Wilbur asked Phil, maybe for the 500th time, if they still got time.

[ We have half of the contract ready, we have a long way still, don’t worry ]

[ We can always complete his profile, if needed ]

They still have time, ok, that’s good.

[ Yes, please, all you can do ]

Will they have time left over? Probably, but it is better to have more than enough.

Wilbur went back to help Techno get the groceries out of the car, carrying all the light things. He was glad that his brother was super strong, he would hate to get all those liters of various drinks on his own and he would have to make a lot more travels than him.

The remaining time went fast, every floor, except for the number 10th, was informed of the party for them to be able to come even if it's to eat something, they even told some heroes that were patrolling.

Well, they actually didn’t, that wasn’t in Wilbur’s plans, but the news spread out like an uncontrollable waterfall, but they had enough for everyone (They did, right? He can always send Techno to buy something nearby-) and they had been warned that there would be consequences if they put aside their work to come.

But soon enough, Niki ended cooking and was now here, as well as Ranboo and Kristin, of course, and Phil was giving closure to Tommy’s reunion.

He checked one last time: Everything seemed in order, even Tubbo was here and he never excited his lab! Ok, this is going to be perfect.

Chapter 8: Welcome Party.

Notes:

Never start writing fanfiction and post them without finish, it's a trap, they are going to be uncomplete or you are going to suffer something that may be more dramatic than the fanfic itself- /j

Anyway, after my sickness the other day, one of my legs was red, it was like having a sock up to my knee and my anxious brain keeps telling me that they are going to cut it off, even when my doctor gave some pills and never ever thought about that possibility, and, to make things better: This Tuesday is my birthday.

Despite all this, I have enough chapters that I don't have to worry about not writing as much as I used to, so I don't think it will affect my current update rate much so worry not.

Chapter Text

Tommy was a little confused as to why they went to the main hall when the reunion was over, but he didn’t actually ask what he was supposed to do now.

Was he supposed to go back home? Eret explained to him that he couldn't work until he was properly in the system and, to get that, he needed a super-name.

Should he ask? Should he do what he used to do in Essempi? Should he wait for the elevator to stop and the doors to open? Because that was happening now and he couldn’t be fast enough to do it before.

It didn’t matter too much, he got distracted the second there was no more metal gate in front of him.

He liked colors? Well, there were a lot of them.

In the middle of the way, high up near the roof, hangs a banner with beautiful letters saying "Welcome to L'manburg", decorated with the HQ logo on one side and the district flag on the other, plus small gold stars that shined like they were real.

Then, and before he could even understand what was happening, someone activated one confetti cannon that made a thousand of little golden papers fly into the room and fall as an actual gold rain.

And, if that wasn’t enough, what seemed to be every hero that worked there started to congratulate him.

For a second, he felt just like that little cannon, ready to explode. He wanted to thank everyone and meet them and thank them again and celebrate and save the world a hundred and one times because right about now he felt like he could do that and more.

He didn’t even notice when he was hugging Phil, whispering a sea of ‘thank you’s.

It was like being drunk, with love. He had never been drunk before, of course, but it surely felt like it.

Soon enough, Wilbur was next to him, showing him around to present him to people.

Everyone seemed excited to work with him and wished him luck, or offered help in the future, or whatever he needed, every single one of them was up to help him become a hero and the gratitude started to get stuck in his throat yet again.

When the party started to calm a little, Tommy found time to go eat something at the table prepared in the hall.

“Niki backed those cookies” Techno pointed out, he barely had noticed the guy there.

“I’ll try them, then, she had been presuming her baking all the way here” He grabbed one and started chewing it “Have your social battery discharged already?” He commented once his first bite of the delicious cookie was swallowed.

“You can’t discharge something that is not loaded from the beginning” He joked back.

“Oh, here you are!” A boy, quite a bit shorter than him, wearing a green t-shirt next to a gray overall and round glasses with many small circles on them, suddenly said “Hi, I’m Tubbo”

The mysterious guy, Tubbo, apparently, extended him a hand to shake. Techno looked at him as if a second head had grown out of his body.

“Nice to meet you” He responded politely. All the people he met so far were nice and he wasn’t looking to find someone who isn’t or give them a reason to not be.

This guy was a little odd, though, because he couldn’t tell which power he had by touching him.

“I’m the engineer here” The other one continued, to his surprise, and it was a little shocking because he looked maybe younger that him, although appearances can be a bit deceiving sometimes, it seems “I’ve heard that you need a super-suit so you can go see me tomorrow any time you want”

“Oh, yeah, I will, thank you”

Apparently that was the answer Tubbo was waiting for because, after he said it, he just nodded, grabbed some cookies and went directly to the elevator without even saying goodbye.

“What a weird guy” He thought out loud.

“It’s even weirder when you think that this is one of the only times he comes out of his place, he does not like to talk to people” Technoblade comentend.

He didn’t have much time to think about it before being talked to, again, by someone else.

Chapter Text

“I don’t know how we are going to be up for tomorrow's morning shift” Wilbur protested from the passenger seat.

They were on their way to the apartment. It was almost 3 AM and Tommy found himself in Techno’s car with Wilbur and that Ranboo guy, for some reason.

“I’m not sure when I can start, actually” Tommy rambled. To be honest, he was so tired that he hardly knew what he was saying at this point.

“You should probably wait till you are settled, it can take a few days” Ranboo suggested.

“Yeah, but I also need a suit and a name” He complained, grabbing his head with his hands and letting out a tired groan.

“I completely forgot you had none of those” Techno said with a mocking tone.

“Well, not everyone has the ‘religious figure plus some relation to death’ kind of idea to use as a name” He contradicted.

“The what now?” Ranboo asked, genuinely confused.

“The ‘religious figure plus some relation to death’ name” He repeated, because it seemed so obvious that it surprised him that they didn’t get it “You know, ‘Angel’, ‘God’, ‘Spirit’ as religious figure and ‘death’, ‘blood’ and ‘mort’ as the relation to death?” He explained a little further.

“You can use something like that, if you want” Wilbur said after a few minutes where nobody said anything.

“I can join the ‘religious figure plus some relation to death’ team?!” Tommy exclaimed excitedly, tiredness vanishing suddenly.

“I guess? If it helps you?” Wilbur said now with a little doubt.

“You know that you created that team in your mind, right?” Technoblade said at the same time, a little amused but using his deadpan tone.

“Shut up, let me think” Tommy screamed, letting his brain work.

The other people in the car probably were listening to the oxidized engines in there working as hard as they never did.

“You can be a guardian” Ranboo suggested after a few minutes.

“That doesn’t even had to do with any of the two things I mentioned, Ranboob”

“What about a demon? You are kind of a demon” Wilbur proposed.

“Not the type of ‘religious figure’ I was thinking of, maybe I should be like a seraph” Tommy added to the makeshift brainstorming that suddenly started.

“Why not a cherub?” Techno asked “I would have said an angel per se but it does not fit you and this was mentioned in dad’s threat, so it has a little bit of story behind it” He explained.

And, honestly, Tommy loved it.

It has the same origin as that of their idols! Not only will he be part of the team, he will be able to use as a reference the same story that inspired the rest!

His eyes glowed in excitement, it was perfect.

“Of Demise” Wilbur added, passing him his phone “Demise fit’s you well” he ended while Tommy read an article on ‘synonyms of death’

“Cherub of Demise?” Ranboo asked, being the first one to say his possible future superhero name all together from start to finish.

“Yes” Tommy responded firmly. It fitted, it felt good, it was the one “I’ll be the Cherub of Demise”

Notes:

I thought SO HARD in Tommy's (and, consequently, Wilbur's, for this to make sense) hero name, you have no idea how many synonyms I went through to get his name MY GOD
I'm so happy to let this out already, this is probably my favorite chapter

Chapter 10: Make a decision and shout it.

I like my chapters titles to have references to the ones in "Be afraid of what is coming" I'm sorry
ALSO THIS CHAPTER IS SO CUTE AND THEY ARE ALL TIRED BUT THEY GIVE LOVE AND ARE FUNNY AND I LIKE IT SO MUCH

Chapter Text

By the time they arrived at the parking lot in the apartment building, Tommy was half asleep, the excitement of finally having a superhero name being the only thing keeping him conscious.

From the other two cars, which came in front of them like a caravan, the rest of the heroes (his friends, if Tommy thought better of it, but it was still difficult to admit that) began to get off.

Phil and Kristin came in Phil’s car, Fundy, Niki and Eret in Niki’s, but by the time Tommy managed to find the tip of his car seat belt to unbuckle it, all of them were already waiting for them by the elevator.

“I got it, I figured it out!” He screamed, his voice echoing all over the underground parking.

“You got what, mate?” Phil asked, being the only one fast enough to give voice to his doubts.

“He will join the ‘religious figure plus some relation to death’ team, apparently” Techno explained (or confused even more, depending on where you look at it).

“Tommy decided his hero name” Ranboo provided.

“Well done? I guess? What was about religion and death?” Kristin asked, really concerned.

Wilbur was about to start explaining when one of the elevators opened its doors. The room wasn’t enough for them all in one, the max capacity being 6 persons, and the other elevator was going down to pick the rest up.

Niki put her feet in the opening to prevent the elevator doors from closing automatically.

“It’s too late for that, I really want to go to sleep, just tell us the name” She suggested with a clearly tired tone, but not impatient.

“Cherub of Demise” All of them said at the same time after sharing a machiavellian grin.

“Oh, I get it, you also want the scary name” Fundy pointed out and Tommy nodded effusively.

“I like it” Kristin said.

“You like to give us a hard time by calling you, but whatever, it suits you, I guess, it's fine” Niki expressed with amusement and fake annoyance.

“I thought you would take longer, the suit seemed more easy to get, I’m proud of you, you amazed me” Eret said, ruffling his hair.

Did his boss ever tell him that he was proud of him? Did Dream ever have this kind of gesture of affection?

Tommy was always up to obey, following every order given and more, thinking about what he could do to be better. He always admired everything from his superiors, even the most little things were the world to him, surely he will remember if Dream, of all people, did something special for him.

The rest did integrate him as one of them, maybe, even if it always felt like he was being a weight because they needed to be over him all of the time in case he fails.

“I should have expected it thought, everyone told me nothing but wonders about you” Eret kept talking, more to herself than to anyone else, while going into the other elevator.

Chapter 11: Setting down.

Notes:

It happened again, today was an eventful day (not necessarily bad) and I just turned on my PC, in the morning I went to the hospital and the doctor said that my leg is fine and I don't need pills anymore so I won this (Also the world cup happened! My country passed to the next part a few minutes ago, I was watching it with my family).

I'm not sure if anyone is even reading this but this was ALSO part of last chapter lmao
A long long chapter turned into two smaller ones again :D

Chapter Text

They all said their goodbyes while Phil, Kristin and Ranboo followed Eret and Techno; Fundy, Wilbur and him went into the elevator Niki was holding.

Tommy wanted to know what floor exactly where the others were in but his and Niki’s was the first stop so he couldn't get to know.

“Oh, Tommy, before I forget!” Niki screamed when she was about to enter her apartment and Tommy to his “Kristin has a copy of your key and we used it to equip your kitchen a little bit, you can always ask her to give it to you” she explained, going back to where he was.

“You guys brought me food?” He asked in disbelief.

“Yeah, hope you don’t mind that we didn’t tell you anything though” she said regretfully.

“Oh, no, it’s ok, thank you” He responded to her relief and then entered his home.

He wasn’t mad , it was probably good that they had a copy of his key, but he should talk to them about boundaries or something like he had with his parents: They could enter only if he gave them permission first.

He didn't find any extra bags, all the packages and boxes around the house seemed to be the ones that were there before he left, they were his belongings, nothing seemed out of place.

But he didn’t think much about it until the next morning, where he wanted breakfast and wasn’t sure where to find the promised grocery bags.

And, to his surprise, they not only took their time to buy things for him, but they also put them in their own places in the kitchen.

His fridge was stacked, all kinds of drinks, fruit, vegetables and more, as well as some things that he never heard before.

His cupboards were also full, but he only searched enough to find some cereal (one brand that he had before, so nothing really new for now) to eat and then he would investigate some more.

While having breakfast, he planned his day. It was 9:30, he was in between going to explore a little or organize his apartment, when he received a notification for being added to a WhatsApp group called ‘neighborhood group’.

For no one more and no one less than Phil.

He had some people added, like Phil, Techno, MS (it was funny to still have Wilbur added like that, he even joked that, if he flipped his phone upside down then it read his actual initials), Fundy and Niki, but there were a lot that he didn’t.

By the display name, next to their numbers, he could guess that Eret was also there. The rest of them, at least 7 or more people (he really wasn't in the mood to count them) and he immediately received a warning in the form of a private message (also from Phil) telling him that most of the people there were civilians and to not talk about hero related stuff.

Tommy was expecting a long talk about consequences about how dangerous it would be to reveal their identities but after a simple ‘Ok’ from his part, Phil seemed to chill out and then changed the topic.

[ If you ever need something from any hero, we have a discord group ]

[ It does not sound professional, I know, but it’s really efficient ]

[ Do you have an account or we should provide you one? ]

And then, after a little back and forth, he was also added to a Discord server. From and for heroes.

Chapter Text

Ordering is boring. It's not like he's been doing it, actually, but he knows how boring tidying up is, so he decided to take a walk.

Maybe he should put all his things in a place someday, but he will procrastinate that as long as he can.

And he was being efficient! Yes, of course, because Phil told him that he can’t go to work nor train until he had a suit and he could put his stuff in order while waiting for it to be done, but for that he needed to see that Tubbo guy.

So no, he wasn’t procrastinating, he was going to do things to be more efficient, he decided.

And knowing the neighborhood.

Around the flat, there was a bakery, some ice cream shops, markets and various shops, all within a radius of 6 blocks.

The hero hq, thought, was about 25 minutes (Maybe less, he had stopped and took a couple of pointless laps just to find his way around in case he needed it one day after all) walking.

Back home, he used to be about 10, but he had less shops around his area so it was worth the change.

When he finally got to the place he assumed he didn't need to sign in, since he was coming off duty, but he did have to ask for directions (he wasn't sure the lab was in the same place as in Essempi, which, indeed, was).

Unlike his usual, before entering he decided to knock on the door and he was received with a pissed off Tubbo, to which his face changed completely when he saw who it was.

“Oh, I was waiting for you! Come in, we have a lot to talk about” He said moving to the side.

As had happened in the whole place until now, his workplace was completely different from the room he knew as 'laboratory'. Sam used to have everything in a certain order, Tubbo, on the other hand, had piles and piles of various things and he would bet anything that not even he knew what was in them.

There was also a kind of bed in one of the sides that was covered with papers of all sizes and colors, written with texts and shapes or wrinkled and discarded.

“I don’t know if you had any ideas or we have to start from my base” Tubbo said, taking a seat in one of the multiple desks and benches that were around the place. Tommy sat in front of him.

“I have some ideas as to how I wanted it to look in my phone, if that’s enough?” He said hesitantly and a little out of it. He had never had to order something customized, much less a uniform as important as this, he really has no idea what to expect.

And Tubbo wasn’t Sam, to which Tommy knew how will react to certain questions.

“We can go to the designs later, I need to know about protection” the other one said, getting up to look for a pile of folders (being the only thing that looked neat in there, Tommy can assume that Tubbo made them for him the day before).

Then, he proceeded to explain functions and adaptability, commenting on how hard it would be to prepare clothes that could support any superpower existing, but he liked challenges.

To be honest, Tommy didn't understand a bit of everything he was saying. He seemed a bit over the top, even, but Tubbo seemed even more excited about this job than he was so he let it be.

Two days later, Tubbo says that the clothing is done for training and training only. Not only he wanted to add some thing and that was a prototype and he wants to know if it adapts to every situation he is in (he used a mix of his experience in Eret’s, that can shapeshift, and Wilbur’s) but he also didn’t knew what to do for the mask.

“This looks sick!” He exclaimed excitedly, trying on his suit for the first time.

“I will need you to tell me how it feels and all that later but now, any ideas for the mask?” Tubbo asked, already with a notebook and pencil in hand to take notes (It was always drawings, not writing, and he never used a pen because ‘pencil is easier to erase’).

“I bet I could even use a pumpkin” He said jokingly and without thinking, ready to show Phil, who was already waiting for him in the main hall, his new clothes.

“Whatever you want, bossman” Tubbo responded, not that Tommy had heard it because he was already running away.

Chapter 13: The kid and the new lab.

Notes:

I should have uploaded like 4 hours ago, shouldn't I? My bad, I had a thing this early morning so I slept like 5 hours and then slept until now.

Also, as per usual, the title is a reference to Be Afraid of What is Coming (Can I refer to it as BAWC? It's way easier)

ANYWAY, enjoy the chapter <3

Chapter Text

Tubbo didn't need to tell Tommy to go to his lab, at this point.

Just like in Essempi, that area became his favorite place to hang out in the past two days, although things were a little bit more explosive than with Sam.

Tubbo was funny and more reckless, he always wanted to try new things no matter how ridiculously dangerous they were and, somehow, still succeeded.

And Tommy had become his lab rat (to test all the things that he wanted), apart from his friend, of course.

He presumed to be the best one of them, as well, even if Ranboo was competing harder to win that place (he actually wasn't, he just brought food to Tubbo because, apparently, he never leaves the lab, not even to get supplies)

Even though Tubbo didn't like to talk about his life before working here (Tommy had to learn his real name from Amazon packages that arrived at the HQ every day), they still could talk about whatever.

That was the reason that, 6 hours after receiving his suit, Tommy was back to Tubbo's.

“The suit is perfect, we practiced endurance and it was very comfortable” Was the first thing he said while going into the lab, without knocking this time.

It was then that he noticed the project Tubbo was working on.

“Oh, thank god, I didn’t wanted to buy more materials and I was running low” He responded, without taking his eyes from the round orange thingy that he had in the desk “I’m almost done with your mask by the way”

That is my mask?” He asked with a little chagrin.

He knows better than to underestimate Tubbo but that looked like a basketball.

Until he flipped it and it was the coolest skull that he ever saw.

“You wanted a pumpkin” Tubbo replied innocently, maybe even a little confused.

“It was a joke-” The blonde tried to explain but ended up sighing, it wasn’t worth the explanation “But it looks very good, I like it”

“I’m glad! I’m almost done putting fire and projectile protection” The shortest one said like it wasn’t anything out of this world. Tommy wasn’t going to point that it was, though.

“Pog” he answered instead.

The engineer returned to his work.

“Do you have any music? It’s really boring working without any sounds” Tommy smartly commented, he's always encouraged to have some good music in the background while he's playing, it probably makes his job more enjoyable too.

“Should I put a system for it to allow you to breathe underwater?” His friend answered instead, clearly dismissing the question. He probably doesn’t. Tommy should bring him something to listen to next time.

“I don’t think is necessary, I won’t do dangerous jobs yet, just minor crime control”

“Ok, right, let’s keep this as a prototype, we will change whatever we need as we see it necessary” Tubbo nodded and agreed.

Then, the skull pumpkin was ready and Tommy could take it with him if he wanted.

He tried it on. It felt good, it didn't interfere much with his vision and wasn't heavy enough to be a problem, he hardly even noticed he was wearing it.

“This is so cool!” He exclaimed, his voice coming out a little different because of the voice changer that this thing probably has.

“If you want to go into outside duty you have to give me at least an hour to finish your walkie-talkie, it's obligatory to have a radio to contact help or receive the alerts” The shortest explained, pointing to the half-built device.

Tommy knew that, of course, he had listened to Eret the other day, yes.

“Can I use your dressing room? I want to change to my other clothes” He asked after taking off his new mask and pointing to the corner of the room, where the bed was, and that had a tube with a curtain to make a separation between "laboratory" and "bedroom".

His voice now sounding like himself.

After the 'go ahead' of his friend, Tommy got into the place. Then, once he got out and he started to save his suit into his backpack, Tubbo instructed him how, with a small button hidden on the pumpkin stem, he could hard the material for more protection or make it weaker and easier to fold for storage.

“Are you going home now?” The engineer asked when he looked ready to go.

“My shift ended, but I can stay with you if you want” He responded without any problem, looking at the time it was.

Tubbo accepted the company and so he proposed to grab some food from the cafeteria for both of them.

While going up into the elevator, Tommy couldn’t stop thinking how clingy his new best friend was.

Chapter 14: Some action.

Summary:

So- uh- VERY late again huh?

I fell sick, AGAIN, fever and all that shit with which I could not get out of bed, and, to make it better, I tried to take care of an old wound in my feet that I have postponed for over 4 years and, because of that, all my leg got red AGAIN and my doctor gave more pills (I hate pills, it's so hard swallow them, I hate this so much) and the person that is treating my feet disappeared completely. At this point, I think I prefer to get my leg cut to stop this shit /lh /nsrs

ANYWAY enjoy Tommy's adventures doing his first patrol with Phil

Chapter Text

Being the first day with his mask meant that he could go outside so, after using all his yesterday's shift to training, Tommy asked Phil if they could do something "more heroic".

He also had to stop by Tubbo's first, get his walkie-talkie and tell him how excited he was for today's activities, although his friend also gave him a bag with way too many weapons and tools that he could use in an emergency.

It was just patrolling, knowing the neighborhood and making himself known, presenting himself as a hero for the first time.

There usually wasn't a lot to do on these kinds of trips, that's why this was more of a "beginner" activity than a pro-hero, like Phil.

That also meant that, if something happened, he had to call for help, but because he was with The Angel Of Death that wasn't necessary.

Not that he needed it, of course, it was just a chilling afternoon filled with tips of "Where to look at", "How to go from roof to roof without being seen or fall" and "How to see who is acting suspicious from a high place and/or a long distance".

That was until they received a distress call.

There had been a few during the day, most of them were ignored, because of regulations, if they are patrolling, they have to be on the channel for emergencies, one that everyone could ask for help and however is in the same channel will listen.

This time, it was a bank robbery, holding hostages at gunpoint. The hero announcing it didn't sound scared, she just was informing it.

Police (That was people without powers or that didn’t want to take the major risk of being heroes, just reinforcements that helped with “not powered type of risks”) were trying to negotiate with one of the bulgars that had one of the hostage's cell phones and everything seemed fine, but she wanted more eyes and opinions on what to do.

Tommy was the one who suggested going, even if Phil didn't want it.

“We can go and see from the outside, banks have power suppressors and police have guns so it will be fine, I guess” Phil accepted finally, after a few minutes of negotiation.

Tommy cheered all the way there, even though they were really close to the place in question.

It is one of the rich people's banks, apparently, so a lot of people are there to see the current state of their jewelry, apart from the ones that are asking for the 23 hostages that are inside.

There also are reporters, getting ready to show on live TV how the robbery goes on.

Phil descended them from the roof they were on slowly and then went to talk to the person that gave them the alert, to which Tommy followed close by.

“We appear to have this under control, we found two cars where they can escape from and our negotiator has contact with one of the thieves” The hero in charge of this operation explained. She was dressed up as a pirate and a sheep mask covered the upper half of her face. Her hair seemed puffy, almost like wool, so he guessed that it fit well enough, and it was weirdly tinted white on one side and dark brown on the other.

Usually, the most experienced hero in the place took control of the situation so it probably will fall in Phils responsibility if he considered it necessary.

“Although we are kind of scared of what would happen when they come out and the suppressors stop working because we don’t know the powers we might be facing” The same person continued.

“I could help with that” Tommy intervened and both heroes turned to face him “if I touch someone, I can know exactly what power they have” he vaguely explained to the woman that didn’t know his powers.

“Who are you?” The hero asked. The question sounded a bit rude but in her tone you could see her genuine curiosity and a little astonishment.

But, at the same time she asked that, Phil started talking as well.

“No no no no, no way, I’m not letting you in there”

Tommy ignored him completely.

“I’m the Cherub of Demise, hero in training” He responded, extending his hand for the other one to shake.

“It might be a dangerous job to put yourself in there, are you sure you can do it?” She said, looking at the building, already planning how to get him inside.

“Yeah, of course, I just have to touch them and I’ll be able to tell you” He dismissed, as if it was the easiest thing in the world. It probably is, I mean, how hard can it be?

“Are you even listening to me? Cherub, you can’t just get inside of a bank robbery on your second day here” Phil snapped, clearly disagreeing.

“Relax, big man, my suit is a bulletproof vest, I can just borrow a big sweater to hide my identity and be just a unlucky kid that got trapped in a bank” He explained easily, it was a good plan if he said so to himself (and he did) but Phil still seemed a little bit skeptical.

“Ma’am, the line has been silent since the robbers ordered pizza” Another guy, with a phone (probably the negotiator) said before his tutor could say something.
And it was a hint to do something, whatever, as soon as possible because things might be happening behind their backs.

Chapter 15: Trust and admission.

Notes:

Time is running way too fast, I have 2 finals this week and I'm still fighting sickness, at this point I'm going to run out of chapters and that's when we are going to star panicking.

Yes, the title is a distortion from the title of Chapter 24 from "Be afraid of what is coming" ("Distrust and admission")
I like to use titles to compare Tommy's life and feelings with each team :D

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“I can’t believe I’m doing this” Phil said, for what might be the thousandth time since he realized that all his possibilities triggered in this one solution.

He proposed just waiting, but it was dangerous for the people outside and inside.

He proposed to open fire on them as soon as they come out, but that could hurt the hostages.

He proposed to enter himself, but surely the thieves would recognize him and try to kill him (in a fight where they are 6 —or more— vs 1 it would be very hard to get out unscathed).

He proposed to have a power suppressor outside, but that would take an hour to arrive and they didn’t have that much time.

He proposed to send someone else, but all of their options were useless compared to Tommy, who can give them an exact painting of what's going on AND know their powers if they have any.

So here they were now, trying another tactic that they weren’t even sure if it would work, yet another reckless thing that Tommy proposed.

Let me explain: Infiltrating in a bank robbery is easier said than done, he couldn’t just go in using the door, but he could get inside from the roof without being seen.

Luckily, Tommy spent a 4-hour drive planning every scenario and thing he wanted to test out of his new teammates' powers.

One of those things was entering places from the sky. And he really wanted to try what happens when he loses contact with Phil midair.

And when you manage to convince the Angel of Death to turn you into a literal kamikaze, trying that kind of thing doesn't seem so far-fetched.

It was going to be a test, really, because Phil was going to be on the roof waiting for him and catch him in case he fell, but they had already tested it in training a little bit and it would be very cool if it  really worked.

When they were lined to the point where he should fall, Phil let him go like a package being delivered.

And, as usual, his wings started to slowly shrink.

His tutor came down with practiced speed as he managed to glide on ever smaller wings.

When he got to the roof, there were no more wings in his back but his fall had been completely soothed.

Phil sighed with relief and handed him a sweatshirt that one of the police officers had in his car and that had been delivered to continue the plan.

“Be careful in there, alright? And remember to stay in line 2 with your radio, so only we are tuned to that and we can hear you” The hero told him, touching the button on his mask (for it to look more like a homemade costume than an actual superhero suit) and then put the hood over it.

In his words and actions there was no distrust, he wasn’t scared of Tommy messing up and getting him fired, he was worried about his safety. He was following his plan, even, because he trusted him, he was just worried that the others might hurt him but he knew that he would be all right.

Phil trusted Tommy and that was more than Dream had ever done.

So Tommy just nodded and entered the door that led to the inside of the bank.

Chapter Text

Inside, everything was quiet.

One might think that, if you are in a panic situation, like a frustrated bank robbery, you might be a little bit more loud .

Tommy was expecting to hear the thieves arguing with each other because “this wasn’t in the plans” or “the police are surrounding the building” but all he found was a woman praying and some other people trying to calm down.

“What’s happening here?” He asked out loud, more to himself than to get an actual answer.

“The villains went downstairs a few minutes ago, they told us that if we move we will be killed” Someone said in a whisper, the person sitting on the floor closest to him.

He counted 8 people, all of them sitting and unharmed.

“3rd floor clear, for some reason, I have civilians here, all of them seem fine apart from being afraid” He said to his hidden radio tuned in channel 2. It was a little hard to get because it was under the sweatshirt and attached to his suit but he made it work.

“Copy that, Cherub, proceed carefully” The same hero that was in charge responded and he obeyed.

“Stay calm, everyone, I will do my best to help you” He said in a whisper for the rest to hear and then headed to the next floor.

“2nd floor is also clear” He informed again “I count 17 civilians unsupervised among the two floors”.

That was weird. Something they were clearly missing and he didn’t like it at all.

“This may be a trap, go back to the terrace with the civilians and leave” Phil responded this time.

“I understand your concern, Angel but we still need contact with the burglars, Cherub, keep going down” The woman in charge denied, and, well, this is, supposedly, her mission, he should follow what she says, but in turn Phil is his instructor, he must also do what he says, right?

“But what if they already know that a hero is inside? They might kill him” His tutor protested.

“With all due respect, Angel of Death, your disciple knows of the risks of this impromptu mission and says he is prepared for it. We need the information, Cherub of Demise, keep going” She denied again, still giving the clear instruction.

Tommy is really not liking this, he has a bad feeling, something unexpected is going to happen without him being prepared, but at the same time he never felt so alive, so useful.

He had dreamed of this situations where he is the reason some people are going to be home safe today.

“Ok, let’s do this, all of you are going to go to the last floor, take the people in the other floor as well, don’t worry about any noise or danger, you are safe now” Tommy whispered to the 9 people there and all of them accepted easily.

Once he helped some of them to get up and the area was clear, he descended to the first floor.

That was also empty.

Well, not empty empty , there were people, but they were clearly the 6 civilians left, because of their uniforms he guessed they were bank employees. One of them, the security guard, was unconscious while the rest of them seemed fine.

“First floor is also clear, I have one civilian passed out” Tommy informed on the radio.

“They went down” One woman pointed out in a whisper, probably afraid that they would hear her and come back to kill her.

“I think we will need reinforcements in the underground floor, I’ll open the main door now” He reported, walking to the entrance.

Once the main access was free, a group of officers with shields and weapons entered the place followed by two firefighter paramedics that addressed the unconscious man.

Tommy helped some people to get up and then guided all of them outside where their families were waiting for them.

And he felt great.

He barely got a breath of the fresh air outside when he was enveloped in a pair of arms and, later, wings.

“You did good, I’m proud of you” Phil told him while he let himself melt in his arms.

That day, the news will tell the story of a young hero in training, called the Cherub of Demise that saved 23 civilians from a bank robbery, 17 by indicating them to go to the roof where the Angel of Death helped them down and 6 of them by opening the doors to the police to go in.

They would also narrate what could have been the thief of the century if he didn’t get in because, thanks to him, the rescue team was able to act more quickly, avoiding an ingenious escape that no one foresaw: A hole in the ditch that would help them escape through the pipes.

An incredibly planned and intelligent action where everyone involved would fake an armed robbery (with fake weapons as well) to cover their robbery in the vaults.

And he would be proud of how, on his second day of work, he had been able to save not only people but also $20 million.

Notes:

When I thought in Tommy's first mission I just KNEW I wanted to do this one. Maybe you haven't heard of this but this Bank Heist is based in real facts :D
It happened a few years ago (2006) in my country and it's a fascinating story because is one of those things that, if someone tells you that is fiction, you will totally believe it.
You can check the original story here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUXG_p64Lzo&ab_channel=TheInfographicsShow) and, if this isn't enough, there is a movie that would probably be subtitled at least idk, I know that it is in amazon prime :D (https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B08ZK49W3K/ref=atv_dp_share_cu_r)

Chapter 17: Another day.

Chapter Text

Tubbo was pissed off .

Mainly with himself, because he got attached (he had been before, sure, but he was in denial, now? It was time to accept it), but the easiest thing to justify was with Tommy.

When he told his friend that he could go fight crime outside and gave him a bag with supplies in case he got in danger he wasn’t expecting for him to go straight into danger.

And he was even madder when Tommy admitted that he trusted all the things he gave him to protect him in case something happened, because, what if they didn’t? What if Tubbo fails and hurts him?

Tubbo is here to be able to do what he is passionate about without risking lives and Tommy trusting his protection means the world to him but he hasn't proven anything to deserve it and it risks his own life in the process.

He never really cared, he never doubted his abilities because he trusted the other heroes to be able to use their powers to save themselves in case his protections didn’t work. He was never the main factor by which a hero returns to base alive.

He just makes silly things that help but they had been working for years without him here, they can keep that up without his tools.

But Tommy was different. There, in any battle field that his work may put him in, he is just like him.

If he ever gets alone, he is just defenseless, he has no supernatural power to save himself and he depends 100% on whatever Tubbo makes or someone else.

He already made a mistake and now he cares, he will not make another and let that be a weakness.

That being said, he is still very very much pissed at Tommy, even more than Philza, that saw him walk straight into possible death and do nothing about it (well, he did something, he saved people and played the fucking martyr).

The difference between him and the other heroes is that they are proud of him because he is doing his job and blah blah blah.

“This will keep happening, Tommy decided to work as a superhero and that’s dangerous already” Ranboo had said.

“You haven’t, thought” He replied, because that was true, Ranboo had never proposed himself to walk straight into a possible trap and, even if he did, they might be able to escape without at scratch with a little teleport.

Tubbo is proud of him for surviving, and he is relieved that no one decided to attack him, but all of that is appeased by the risk he put himself into by simply not thinking about the consequences, by not doubting Tubbo, by blindly trusting that everything would work out.

Because Tommy doesn't seem to understand that facing people more powerful than him, who have powers that could destroy him in seconds, by himself, is not a good idea.

And risking his life is not part of the job.

“It is, thought” Ranboo had also said when he started to open up to them.

It's frustrating how, until now, Tubbo had avoided long conversations with the team, had avoided becoming attached, until he took on a new project and now he has the need to talk about it before he falls into madness.

Although Ranboo doesn't seem to mind being there to let him off the hook, he even seems happy to strike up a conversation, advise and help him.

“When you take a place here you know that it may cost your life, that you are a clear target for supervillains, but you do it anyway because that means that many other people won’t have to worry about it” He added to Tubbo’s misfortune.

It was true, of course.

“But you don't do it alone, there is always the team to support you when you need it, and this applies to Tommy as well as you, and if someone fails? At least there was an attempt and it would never be your fault if something happens” They pointed out later, giving the exact words that were needed.

Maybe it is good to talk to Ranboo every once in a while. He seems to be a very wise person.

Chapter 18: Starting a new routine.

Notes:

Merry christmas! I hope you enjoy the holidays, even if you don't celebrate them :D
Don't expect a christmas special from me, I'm not fan of those and I'm not in a christmas mood so we are just going to continue as if nothing happened. I was going to say happy new year too but I'm going to post on the 31th too so we will see each other again before that, not even the festivities will stop me from updating (Let's ignore that few days where I was sick, those never happened and my update streak is perfect)
ANYWAY enjoy ;)

Chapter Text

Tommy was asked to give an interview to the press.

This was a thing that only happened when an attack was televised or, in other words, that it wasn’t as dangerous for civilians to be around the place.

What was unusual is for a beginner to be there.

Tommy had talked to Eret about it, expecting for them to be mad or something, but with Phil allowing the actions and it not having consequences made it all fall into nothing.

So now he is having his first press conference on his 4th day of working here.

A new record, according to Wilbur.

Of course, Phil was there, and the other hero that led the mission, Captain (or Puffy, as she presented herself minutes before the conference). He didn’t even have to answer most of the questions, but it was a really big thing and he felt like screaming and jumping around again.

Someone called him “The second day hero in training”, claiming the great potential in his work, and asked where he had been all this time.

To this, he looked at Phil for help. Would it be rude to say the truth? If they think that he is like the Messiah or something, wouldn’t they get mad at the Essempi people?

Lucky, Phil saved him once again, claiming that “he is a minor, it’s not important where he was, he is here because he had the potential you already saw” and the rest of the people calmed down with the personal questions.

And even if he touched the sky in that exact moment, feeling fame and usefulness, the rest of the week was light.

That was considered his day off (It was agreed from the day that Tommy finished his registration as a superhero, Eret wrote it down in the system and together they fixed his schedules) even if he spent most of his time in the lab after the big event.

For the next day, Tubbo had asked (through Ranboo, because the boy refused to leave his lab) for him to train instead of going out, at least until he could accept that the suit was good enough.

To that news, he expected to go back to his past job, doing something useful while the other heroes were occupied, but, instead, everyday he had training with one or two people (excluding Phil, who was always with him).

He easily dominated Niki’s powers in a day, it was like Sapnap’s fire but less scary and he had been able to try that once.

The next day was a day off so he finally took care of his new home, had a long video call with his parents, and walked around the neighborhood a little more.

He also spent the following 3 (4, actually, but one of them was also a no work for him) days with Ranboo and Techno.

Apparently, the albino had accepted a job here, not because they wanted to fight crime like Tommy, but because he needed to train his powers to the max.

He was one of the lots of kids that went to Kristin’s training center and that needed so much help that they offered him a place in their house, where they would be sure that no one would get hurt in the event of a lack of control of their abilities.

After that, they realized that the problem wasn’t in the powers, but in their memory problems, and Technoblade proposed to be his tutor so that he could accompany them even while he was working.

At the beginning, Tommy felt that they were a little bit annoying, way too bootlicker, willing to do what he is told to be liked, but after the first day of training and having lunch together in the headquarters, he realized that they were really nice and it was nice to spend time with him.

And his powers were really fun to use.

Teleporting gave him a little dizziness initially, what's more, he actually almost threw up the first time, but once he got used to it, it was fun.

The second day of learning their powers, Fundy decided to join them, and together they practiced how to push away the particles that, for some reason, decide to stick to Ranboo as if they had their own consciousness and can know that he is there.

The next day, Techno teached him to use swords. It wasn’t actually part of his power, he is well aware of that, but it was probably the most useful thing that he could learn: Maybe he wouldn't be able to be as strong as him but he could defend himself in case of need.

It was easier to carry a sword around instead of depending on people.

He promised to give them more lessons, less than 6 hours of training (having long breaks and going slow to not so as not to exhaust their bodies too much) wasn’t enough, but the next day, instead of Technoblade and Ranboo, Eret joined him and Phil.

It was after a day off, so he was well rested and ready.

Chapter 19: Training and suit development.

Notes:

I started writing again, which is good, but I started another fanfic completely different to this one, which is bad.
Anyway, I finished chapter 34 from here and made a base for a new SBI AU that I already posted in my tumblr (i'm not sure if I'm going to continue it or just let it as it is)

Chapter Text

T he day was going to be different, apparently, because there was a threat of a dangerous villain the day before (one that Phil worked but Tommy didn't) and they needed the best heroes to take care of it.

That’s why Eret proposed to train alone with him instead of Phil being there. Both of them accepted easily so it turned out to be a very important day.

So, while Phil dealt with a big problem for them, they saw the improvements needed to return to field work.

Tubbo dedicated to witness when he was informed that Eret made time in her complicated schedule to teach their powers to Tommy, saying that he needed to see if the suit worked well.

Eret’s powers were amazing, they didn’t make sense and that was incredible. Tommy and Tubbo agreed that it was out of this world while he edited his body like if it was a character design in a video game.

For the first half an hour, both kids made requests of things to change: add a tail, make yourself small, grow two more arms, change your face to look completely different, remove the tail, add horns.

And it was fun, until Tommy had to try it out, because then it was hard .

Tubbo had a good time, of course, because seeing him struggling was really funny, apparently.

Eret told him to start with something easy: making his skin elastic.

Of course, in her terms, it all sounded really effortless, and maybe it was for them, but it took Tommy almost 2 hours to manage something not even close to what he was asking for.

And it was tiring as fuck.

He could almost laugh of how his body was able to summon Phil’s wings without him noticing but when he wanted to do something on command, it was impossible and exhausting.

And, suddenly, he couldn't wait for his day off.

But he went to the HQ either way!

His plans were to play videogames all day but Tubbo asked if he could go so he just complaced, bringing with him an old radio that one of the nearby shops was selling along with some music discs that he found in another store.

He had money because his parents gave him some to survive until his first paycheck and all the food that he would need for the month was already there so he just wanted to give Tubbo something.

Either to celebrate their friendship or to thank him for his work, maybe even both.

He was heading to the elevator, about to touch the button that would call it for him to go down, when it opened its doors.

Technoblade came out of it, wearing a (slightly) different outfit.

The first thing he noticed from it was the shirt. He used to have a black one and now it was white. Then, he realized that, instead of a red cape, he has a coat. It seemed to be made of the same material, as if he had taken his cloak to make a jacket instead.

After a couple of minutes of looking at each other, Techno finally broke.

“What are you looking at?”

Tommy was in between making fun of him or just keep going with his day. His choice was obvious.

“Did you get rid of the cape because I told you so?” He responded mockingly.

“Of course not, I have wanted to change my costume for a while now” Technoblade responded in the most deadpan tone he could manage before escaping, walking (almost running) to the door that led to the stairs.

Tommy burst into laughter even when he entered the elevator and started to descend.

Chapter Text

“This has a lot of materials that may be useful to do a voice modifier and maybe a little cannon” Tubbo said, analyzing the radio Tommy brought him.

“Oy, you dick, this is not a supply for your machines, this is for entertainment” Tommy spatted.

“My machines are my entertainment” The short one responded back, still not getting his eyes up from the thing.

“Well, no, I strictly prohibit you from destroying this” He demanded.

“I will destroy this for content” The other one smiled wickedly, clearly joking, while putting the radio on a shelf.

“I will never give you a gift ever again” He lamented, knowing damn well that he would.

“Fine” Tubbo responded with fake nuisance, dragging out the thing, trying to sound annoyed and rolling his eyes in amusement “I won't make a mini cannon with it even if that sound really fun”

The rest of the day was spent with them chatting, listening to the music discs, and Tubbo trying more protection. He also let Tommy beta test some weapons that he would be able to use once they are finished.

The next day though, Phil needed to be outside. They needed to make sure nothing was happening with the supervillain that they were currently fighting (they were a few steps ahead, even if the other didn’t know that, or that's what his superior said) so it was better if they patrolled together that night.

Things were a lot more tense now than the other day, now there was an actual immediate danger that they could run into and both of them knew that well, but that was the fun!

Or at least Tommy fought so, Phill seemed to disagree when he cheered, but him being happy was enough to put him a little bit at ease.

At least that's how it was for a while, where both just walked on the roofs looking everywhere, searching for something they hoped not to find.

Which unfortunately they did.

Phil noticed first, of course, he had better vision in the dark, for some reason (Something that he pointed out as crow-like when he noticed in one of their practices, Phil wasn’t even aware of that fact), and he quickly instructed Tommy on what to do.

“I need you to make sure those civilians are safe” He said, pointing to a mother and her kid getting out of a bakery “If this is the super villain we were looking for, they control electromagnetic fields and they are strong. Once you are sure that they are safe and this looks bad, call for reinforcements” He completed.

“Deal” Tommy responded, giving his tutor a high five that summoned him wings, that he used to glide down the building, landing next to the civilians just as his wings finished disappearing.

None of them saw him until he was in front of them so it scared them a little.

“A villian!” The kid screamed, tears appearing in his eyes.

“No, no! I’m not, I’m the Cherub of Demise!” He responded quickly, looking around without knowing what to do.

The mother lifted the kid and hugged him close, trying to calm him down.

“You need to get out of here, things might get a little bit bad, follow me” He said.

“You are lucky I have seen you on TV the other day, otherwise, you do look and sound like a villain” The woman said pointing his mask and making him feel a little bit ashamed.

He didn’t have time to say sorry, though, because a strange type of invisible force made them wobble and he hurried to help her stay steady and not fall.

None of them had powers.

“Over here” He said, indicating them to go back inside the bakery, where a man looked at them with horror “Close everything until we said so, don’t go out and stay safe”

“I have a neighborhood chat, I will inform them to stay inside” The man said, going to the back of the store and coming back with a phone and being followed by another employee.

Tommy got out and, almost immediately, the blind started to close.

Once everyone was seemingly safe, he grabbed the walkie-talkie.

“This is the Cherub of Demise informing that we found the villain Magnet Knight and we will need some reinforcements” He said and waited for an answer.

After a few seconds of holding his breath, watching from behind how Phil tried to get up and another invisible wall pushing him against the ground, someone responded, asking for their location.

Notes:

I imagined the villain's power to be like the end of Terra Swoop Force, when the center of the earth explodes and has that effect which are like tremor waves with some kind of strange wall that you can go through (?) idk how to explain it, see it here if you don't know what I'm talking about https://youtu.be/tvhJ9XyzpzM?t=307

Chapter 21: Tubbo’s dilema.

Notes:

I just want to say that I love Tubbo's character, he is so precious to me. He also had a family that loved him, unlikely any other fanfic ig, that's a constant here (or, well, Ranboo happens to become the character with whom I identify the most so they are not going to be so lucky even if they are notas bad as other fanfics, maybe, although you wont see that here bc it's one of the one shots of backstory THAT I ALREADY STARTED)
ANYWAY, some things from chapter 17 are going to make a little sense here, I hope, and MORE DRAMA THAT WE ALL LOVE.
Hope you enjoy :D

Chapter Text

He didn’t know what was safer: Keeping Tommy around, making sure to be prepared for anything, or asking him to be away from his dangerous lab.

The second one was definitely safer but he got so used to having the other one there that now it felt empty when he was alone.

It hasn’t been much but having Tommy working outside for one day was anxiety inducing enough for him to exile him from his lab, even if it may be one step closer to the prophecy.

Would this be it? Would he let his new best friend stay there when something fails and then he is gonna kill him?

And most importantly: Was he going to risk it?

Tommy wanted to be there and Tubbo wants him here, they both know the risk but only one knows that they are fighting destiny.

He wasn’t going to tell anyone, of course, no hero wants to have a future villain working for them and he has been doing his best for it to go to waste now.

Everything was going well, why did Tommy have to appear to ruin it all?

It wasn’t his fault, really, he just got his attention with his lack of powers, being a hero despite needing to "borrow" the rests powers to have something supernatural.

Guess it is impossible to fight destiny.

No. Nothing happened yet, he still is in control, he won’t let that ruin his life again, he is no longer in a position to return to the streets, he is already too well known, he will probably end up in jail instead of free, just in case.

He will fight destiny until it’s inevitable.

Just letting that memory guide his life is enough, he can’t let that keep happening.

He has always been smarter than that, he did science projects proposed for children 5 years older on his own, without even requiring help from teachers.

That was why all of this started, didn’t it?

His classmates were jealous, that’s why that kid with the cool power of reading the future analyzed him when he tried to experiment how it worked.

“Your experiments are going to kill everyone that you care about” They said, horrified, in front of everyone in the class.

The teacher had been absent so Tubbo had taken the opportunity to do a couple of analyzes on them. He asked them to try to read his future. It was his fault, after all.

“That’s how you will become a villain: mad, alone and trying to get them back” They finalized, leaving him freezing.

That’s why he ran away from his family the next day, he couldn't stop doing what he loved and if he was going to be dangerous then he would do it alone.

He explained his parents in a note, he asked them to not look for him and slept in every doorstep from the main buildings hoping to find a hero to help him or find the place where they work at least.

According to his calculations, the workplace of a superhero should be the safest place for a person as unstable as he is, they should be able to stop him if he is about to put a life at risk.

And they did find him! Phil let him in and gave him food and tried to find his family, giving up when Tubbo refused to talk.

Things were better than planned, though, because when he made a catapult with the fork that he was given (he couldn't help it, he needed a distraction and he did not have enough materials to make any machinery in the month he was on the streets) and they saw his potential.

Of course he foolishly took the opportunity, they would even pay him for making whatever they needed, it was way too good to turn away, so much so that he forgot the real reason he was there.

Then again, a hero will be able to stop him before he puts any life in danger. Right?

Chapter 22: Hero not scary.

Chapter Text

“Tubbo, I need a new mask” Tommy said as soon as he set foot inside the lab, costume still on.

“What happened? Did you break it already?” Tubbo asked, alarmed, raising his head from his current job quickly. It was surprising how he recognized him even with the voice changer.

“No, of course not, it’s just too scary and it does not help that my hero name is fucking Cherub of Demise” He responded, still remembering the events of the day, and resting his current mask in one table.

Tubbo laughed to no end when Tommy explained to him why he needed a change with such urgency, making him laugh a little too.

It was absurd, but it was ok, it was a doable thing.

He decided to keep the pumpkin design, just because it was funny, but it was less scary now.

“Phil said that you are invited for lunch this Sunday” Tommy said after a few hours of just talking about the mask, remembering a conversation he had with his tutor before.

Ever since he got here (and before as well, this was an old tradition for them apparently), Sunday lunches were spent in Kristin and Phil’s house, and everyone wanted Tubbo there too.

They also wanted him in the flat, actually, Phil has an entire department unoccupied specially waiting for him, but the boy had refused every time that he had offered it to him.

“Nah, I’m good, thanks” He replied, as he always does, according to his tutor.

“Do you have any problem with any hero? Phil? Eret? Niki? Or maybe Kristin? I don’t think you have problems with Ranboo…” Tommy rambled, mentioning everyone that was invited, not paying enough attention to his friend, who looked really uncomfortable with the new topic.

“What? No, they are all nice, I’m just better on my own”

“But it’s only one day!” He protested, still not noticing the other one incommodity.

“I have to go to get a package” Tubbo finally snapped, getting out of the lab and leaving Tommy confused and alone.

No one was leaving a package today and, if they were, Tubbo would have just asked Tommy to go get it or simply wait till another hero received it and they would send it here.

He waited there anyway.

And waited a little bit more.

After close to an hour Tommy started to get a little bit worried. Does Tubbo have where to go if he is not here?

No. He does not. He lives here, he has a bed in one corner of his lab, the bathroom is on the other side of the exit door and he eats food from the cafeteria. He clearly was evading him now.

Guess it’s time to go home, then. It would be very nice if Tubbo shares what is bothering him or communicates what he wants or needs in some way, but it’s ok if he doesn't.

Walking back home he thinks a lot about that, and he texted Tubbo via Discord (it was lucky that he was also in the heroes group chat) to say that he was sorry, and when he got to his place he called his parents, desperately needing a distraction.

They talked to him about how the restaurant was doing amazing and his mother was having a heavy case that didn’t let her sleep but they were helpful that it was going to end soon.

Chapter 23: Relaxation and tension.

Chapter Text

After a few days, things got a little bit better.

Tubbo had his mask done for the next morning, Tommy has yet to guess if he ever slept that night but he didn’t have the opportunity to ask after making the mood tense yet again.

“I’m sorry for pressing and making you uncomfortable yesterday” He said once Tubbo gave him his new mask, feeling like he needed to apologize.

“Isn’t Phil and Wilbur waiting for you to train today?” He asked instead of responding, clearly not wanting to talk about it again.

And so they didn’t.

Tommy kept hanging out with him, in his lab, listening to the same two music discs that he brought, and not talking about whatever happened that day.

It wasn’t healthy , Tommy knew that, maybe Tubbo did as well, but it was better that way, maybe his best friend needed a distraction from whatever was bothering him, and he was more than happy to supply that.

He kept training with Eret as well as Wilbur. He never thought that physical powers could be so hard but here he was, struggling with both of that type instead of a mind one (There aren’t a lot of heroes with that type, he notices, not like in Essempi at least).

When he finally loses his fear of Wilbur's power, it is when he realizes that, really, he is not as difficult to control as he thought. Sam had taught him a lot of useful things while learning to control ether so he thinks that had helped a lot as well.

After two days with Wilbur and a day off, Eret proposed him to go on patrol with her. Technically, Tommy wasn’t allowed to do hero stuff without Phil, but Eret being the head of the headquarters gave them that type of freedom.

And it had been a different experience, that’s for sure.

While Phil will prefer to stay in high places, Eret explained to him how to walk down the city without being noticed, being able to stay incognito without needing to fly or staying in a roof.

It was nice, she gave a lot of tips, as well as his tutor, but they were different and equally useful.

“You have a lot of potential and it even makes me think twice about leaving L’manburg because I will love to see you succeed in the future” He said when they got back to the headquarters, after 6 hours of patrol “but I will teach you everything I know while I can”

It was weird to have all that trust and appreciation for him, he really liked it, sure, but it still felt strange. Only his parents used to praise him like that and it’s always nice to hear that kind of things from your superiors.

For the first time in years, he didn’t feel like he needed to go out of his way to impress someone to like him.

This has been an issue since he started school, he wasn't the best student or anything close, but he did his best! Only for the rest of the world to treat him as a problem kid.

Even Dream did it, which was, at the end, the reason why he is here now (He is not going to thank him for that one, though, what a prick).

The seemingly never ending anxiety he never noticed he had was starting to fade, he was really calmer, and that’s how he knew he didn’t feel like this before.

Because of a good change he noticed that things weren’t great before.

But his brain needed to bother him in some way, so he was now worrying about Tubbo.

Tubbo hated that, of course, and Tommy promised himself to not talk about it until the other one did first, until he felt ready to do so.

That's how he found himself googling and searching to know more, not his proudest moment, that's for sure, he felt like shit knowing he was invading his privacy but it was his day off again and he just couldn't think about any other thing but his best friend.

Lucky for his morality and unlucky for his curiosity, he didn’t find a single thing (except that Tubbo wasn’t his real name, which, honestly, he should have guessed).

It wasn’t going to be that easy, but he was going to help him like his name is Tommy Innet.

Chapter 24: Things are going to go straight to hell.

Notes:

I'M SO SO SORRY, MY FAMILY TOOK ME AWAY ALL DAY, HERE IT'S THE CHAPTER

Chapter Text

Tommy got into the headquarters with Ranboo, they had the early shift today.

He was used to go to the building with Phil and another hero that had the same turn, but today, when he went to the 8th floor, Kristin told him that he had left a few hours ago.

Then, Ranboo appeared behind her, ready to go to look for Techno to go as well, so he just kind of follows them into the 7th floor, where he apparently lives.

The tall hybrid knocks once, twice, and then again, and there's not even a sound from the inside.

And, after a few minutes of waiting and checking the Discord group chat, they were walking to work.

Things weren’t looking good, apparently.

Magnet Knight got away the other day, after realizing that more heroes were appearing and he barely could fight the Angel of Death alone, so he vanished (It seemed that he had an alliance with someone else, someone that had a mix of the three types of powers, apparently, because a portal made of particles appeared and teleported them away) before any part could have a good hit.

Nobody in the headquarters knew about this weird union, apparently, so they were a little bit panicking in the chat, theorizing if they wanted to show that the problem was bigger than just a guy with magnetics powers or if it was just an attack that went wrong and that needed a quick escape.

Nothing was clear and so the top heroes were having a rough time.

And them, being under the tutorship of two of the most important heroes of the district, were a little bit pushed to the side.

It was reasonable, of course, crime is more important than anything else in this job, so they were just there, wasting time.

No one asked them to clean or make sure that every toilet has paper, which made Tommy feel a little bit tense. At this point, he was so used to always be doing something , whatever they asked him to, that he felt a lot like a burden.

Of course, Ranboo nor anyone knew this, and when they sat in the reception waiting for instructions, their moods were a lot different.

And if they noticed how Tommy was shaking his leg anxiously, he didn’t comment on it.

It was Fundy who noticed them, a couple of minutes after (way too much free time, in Tommy’s opinion) and explained to them the situation.

“This mission looks a little bit too dangerous for you guys to be part of, so you can go train on your own or go home, it’s ok, it’s justified today”

Tommy didn’t want to go home. If anything, he would go to Tubbo’s, but Ranboo spoke before he could even think about what he was going to do with his day.

“Do you want to practice teleporting without throwing up again?”

And, honestly, training was something that he never got enough, it was a laking thing in his life and a waste of time for the others, so he could never say no to such a proposal.

“Of course”

Chapter 25: Training and bonding.

Notes:

ISTG I chose my worst time to mark it as my "update time" because I'm never near my pc at this time BUT WELL I'm not going to change the time let's call this stubbornness.
We are way too close to the end of the chapters that I already have written and saved and that's no good, let's hope I can write faster than the schedule.

Chapter Text

They practiced a lot.

First, Ranboo stayed still in one place of the training room where Tommy would touch his shoulder and teletransport himself to another side, then, Ranboo did the same, following him to allow his powers.

When they got tired, they started playing hide and seek: One of them would teletransport themselves to any place in the floor and then, when found, the other one would do the same so the seeker is now the seeked.

It was surprisingly fun, even if Tommy found Ranboo a little bit odd. He was still struggling with him but, so far, he was actually nice.

They ended up with Tubbo when they got power exhausted.

The plan was to test some of his inventions, something like what Tommy used to do with Sam.

At the beginning, Ranboo refused, saying he didn't want to disturb the other guy while he was working, but they ended up giving up like a weak bitch.

At the end, they all ended up theorizing about what the other heroes were doing.

“They started to ask for a lot of AMMO since Phil fought him the last time, I think they are going to look for them tomorrow, don't know where though” Tubbo supplied all the information he knew, making what looked like bullets without even looking at the objects in his hands, like a fucking robot.

Tommy was pretty sure that AMMO wasn't made just like that but, instead of questioning it, he just resorted to the mental reminder to not get on Tubbo's bad side because he might be very very dangerous.

“Do you think we will be allowed to go?” Ranboo asked, it sounded more like a rhetorical question but he answered anyway.

“I hope so, that would be pretty epic”

“But dangerous, I don't think you are going to be called there” Tubbo thought out loud.

Hours passed like that, it was serene, Ranboo and him even helped the other one a little, passing him stuff or buying some things that he told them he needed.

Some suspicious person, who tends to expect the worst of everything, would say that this was like the calm before the storm.

Maybe, and only maybe, all of them taught that, deep inside of them, but none of them said anything, just letting the peaceful talk and time together be enjoyed until the Discord server started to demand attention.

[ Monarch: @Everyone plans have been made, we can’t wait more time and risk it to go out of our control. If you want to participate in tomorrow's hit, please come to the 10th floor where we will explain everything. As this is considered a somewhat rushed mission and with such little time in advance, we leave it to you the freedom to decide if you want to be part of it, and it’s lack of assistance won’t be punished, that being said, we will be grateful if you decide to join ]

Tommy read out loud, the three of them then looking at each other.

“Please don’t go” Tubbo pleaded, already knowing that he had already decided his fate.

“I don’t even think I will be taken in, relax” He replied, gathering his things that ended up everywhere after hours of hanging out here and then walking towards the door.

Tommy didn’t know but the other two shared a worried look while still looking at every single one of his movements.

“I will try to get in as well” Ranboo said, resigned, knowing that, if possible, he would like to be there for Tommy.

Maybe they didn't want to be a hero from the beginning, maybe they started this to get more time with his tutors to train in a legal way, but Tommy's determination gave him the strength to fight and be stronger.

And you never know when it will be handy to teleport away from the danger until you need to do it and he wasn't risking not being there.

Chapter 26: When everything is in chaos.

Notes:

Ok, so, I decided to dye my hair pink a few days ago and now I'm turning the energy from the mental breakdown of almost loosing all my hair do to burn it in discoloration by writing the following chapters so, let's have some fun, shall we?
Chapter title is a reference to "Do it for her" from Steven Universe

Chapter Text

“Why are you here?” Technoblade asked, desperate, looking in shock at his apprentice, pinching his nose instead of paying attention to the anxious kid in front of him.

“I want to help” They answered simply, looking directly at Tommy, giving the other one the hint he needed to understand.

Meanwhile, a few feets away from them, Philza tried to explain to the other blonde why he wasn't allowed to go.

“But Phil, I already proved myself the other day, I will listen to everything you say and help!” The youngest screamed, causing the other to deflate.

Phil knew what he meant by that and telling him to stay made him feel like Dream.

He wasn't like that, of course, he repeated that in his head every time he denied something to him, but he didn't know if Tommy was doing the compassion in his head or not and that was making him crazy.

Tommy wasn't, quite the opposite, actually, but Phil's super power isn't mind reading.

“I trust you, but I don't trust them” He tried to explain “It's way too dangerous and you are in training"

“But isn't everything here 'too dangerous', Phil? When is there going to be a 'not dangerous' scenario where I can actually participate?” Tommy counterattacked.

And he was right, fuck if he was right, all of them knew where they were enrolling themselves when they got the job, specially him, that just wanted to save some people whatever the cost.

(He is ready to be on the battlefield, when everything is chaos and you have nothing but the way you feel, your strategy and a sword)

And Phil couldn't even be mad at him for that.

Tommy's heart was way too good for his own good.

Now, he could tell him to stay anyway, but where does that put him? Wasting such a noble proposal and potential.

He looked behind them, where Techno and Ranboo were talking, and sighed.

“You can listen the plan but I want you in the back, with Ranboo, informing the rest if we need assistance, I don't want you guys to put yourselves in danger for no reason” He said weakly, already feeling like this was a big mistake, but Tommy's eyes shone like stars, filled with excitement.

Eret appeared minutes later, all the room already filled with almost every hero available.

Magnet Knight had been spotted by one single camera since they started to appear. It wasn’t much, but they made it work by sending small drones (the size of bees, with a camera so small it was barely visible, which Tubbo created on his own initiative and then provided to the rest) and, with that, they were able to follow the guy.

They had what they supposed was the base, it was an abandoned mid-constructed apartment complex from a company that went bankrupt during construction, no one ever tried to continue with the project since then. It was way too ambitious anyway, doomed to fail.

Positions were given to everyone, they had prepared a tent with supplies that would be a few blocks behind to everyone that needed medical attention, their healers (and the kids) waiting there.

They also will send an attack drill in the area nearby, a protocol that every citizen knows they must follow if they want to stay alive just in case, one day, it's not a fake one (like tomorrow, but they made sure that nobody knew that by giving one today in another nearby area, pretending that they will do that every day and little by little, until they cover the hole district).

The only heroes that were absent justified themselves in the Discord, saying that they were busy tomorrow because it was their day off but every single one of them said that they were willing to be there for backup if needed.

To say that no one was able to sleep comfortably that night would sound like an exaggeration, but indeed, with the nerves that all the heroes were carrying at the time, it seems almost obvious.

Especially the two that were tutors of two minors with big hearts who decided that they would also defend the city from this possible alliance and the poor engineer who spent his entire night preparing shields and weapons that the heroes might need.

Be that as it may, the next morning, all the heroes were prepared for whatever comes.

Chapter 27: Ready as I ever be

Notes:

I'M SORRY I'M LATE, MY ALARM JUST WENT OFF LIKE 8 HOURS LATE FOR SOME REASON
I COMPLETLY FORGOT THAT I HAD TO UPLOAD TODAY
ALSO! Chapter's title is a reference to "Ready as I'll ever be" from Tangled (the series)
And I had to google how to write this kind of 'tension moments' and 'fighting scenes' for this part so I'm totally out of my confort zone here, hope it's good though!

Chapter Text

Eret stood in front of everyone in the big hall, all of them knowing what to do and just waiting for her to give the heads up.

Tubbo was running in between them, making sure everyone had at least one weapon and shield. They never saw the kid so stressed in his life even if this wasn’t the first time they had this type of encounter since he started working here.

“Now it's time to rise up or it's time to stand down and the answer is easy to see” She spoke loudly, getting everyone’s attention and silence, then, he grabbed their sword and riced it up before continuing “And I swear by the sword if you're in, get on board. Are you ready?”

Tommy looked fascinated as everyone shouted “We're ready” in a chorus that filled the nervous atmosphere.

“I'm ready. Ready as I'll ever be” He murmured to himself, following the line to the registration screens (there are 10 in total and it was a quick task, just check your identity with your fingerprint and then press a button), where each hero must change their status from "Inside the building" to "On a mission".

A group went to the cars, another was going outside, and he met Ranboo to go to the ground floor, with all the medical support people, together.

Tubbo walked with them down the elevator, waving from the door of his lab, wishing them the best of luck and begging them (Tommy) not to do anything stupid that will cost them their lives.

Then, they were on their way, next to some people that Tommy had yet to know (He had met them before, during his welcome party, but he didn’t even remember their names).

The medical base was going to be in a garage, it was a small one, for a now closed supermarket, that had a large tailgate for cars to pass through, a small gate next to it for pedestrians that remained closed and the rest simple high walls.

There were alarms going off, announcing that the curfew had begun. The calm voice of a woman repeating "For your safety, stay in your homes until instructed otherwise" followed them from the moment they entered the area.

Both teens helped to set up a tent and made sure to distribute some gauzes and painkillers, so that they are within everyone's reach, near the mats that will soon be used as stretchers. The rest stayed in the car, which was now a makeshift cabinet.

It was terrifying to think that this place could be full of hurt people (heroes, the stronger ones, the reason why everything is in order) in simple minutes but the smell of ethyl alcohol and antiseptics kept reminding him.

That and the constant noise the siren was making. Now the lady stopped talking, but the wailing that made the repetitive and distorted ‘wee-oww’ are enough to make his hair stand on end.

After everything was ready, Ranboo and him approached the tailgate, it was half closed leaving barely space for them to lean out because everyone was too worried about a possible villain invasion.

They were about 100 meters (or 328ft) away from the actual battle but they were able to see the place, albeit not the inside.

It has 4 floors, all the windows covered with something, strange pieces of either metal or wood that seemed suspiciously made by someone with that kind of Element Powers, and there was no roof in the upper part.

There were heroes of all kinds surrounding the place, some in the heights, either flying or on a roof, others on the ground, but nobody was moving yet.

And then, the floor vibrated, a barely visible blue dome foming from the center of the building knocked them off balance, but nobody fell.

In his response, all that was received was a battle cry ("Go" or "Now", with all the voices it wasn't ever clear what they were saying) as everyone rushed inside.

Chapter 28: History ha(d)s its eyes on you

Notes:

I'm totally not procrastinating writing a battle scene right now, how could you even think that bad of me?
I totally am, I'm terrified of what could happen if I even try to write one of those, I'm so sorry beforehand
And I'm also late because of course I am (this time it was an emergency, not my fault tho)

Chapter Text

A hero can’t lose a battle, Phil repeated in his head. When you are a hero, you have so much more to lose than your life or that of your loved ones, you have every life of the entire district in your hand, reason why, even if you technically can, you should never lose a fight.

Here they were now, with barely any plan and a lot of lack of knowledge of their enemy(s) and trying to stop what has been a week of night attacks.

They were robbing items that, at first, didn’t make sense, but the other night they stopped them and it was Wilbur, as the history lover that he is, that understood the purpose of all this.

Everyone knows who the powers started, with a bunch of doctors wanting to cure some forgotten virus, but nobody knew exactly what caused the powers to appear.

The few scientists that insisted on its research instead of the cure were fired. History says that some went crazy, trying to get their curiosity solved and denied in every laboratory, as they were all looking for a more important thing.

But Wilbur got curious about what happened, there had been a trial to condemn the people that started it all, the ones that approved the human test and everyone involved in the creation of the first superpowers.

Only one of them confessed what they injected into those testers and there was only one police record of that, not even digitized, that the people of power discarded because "the reason is not important, you acted badly and you have to assume the consequences".

It has been hard for Wilbur to get to it as well, he had to travel a lot and use his position as a hero to get his hands in it, but he got a copy of the testimony even if it is to justify his efforts, and then moved on.

And so many years have passed since then that he did not even remember its existence, only feeling that he recognized some of the strange elements while his father complained about the little sense that everything had.

This guy(s) wanted to create more powered people.

Not even them should know the consequences of that, it was just ridiculous, with the amount of people that can’t control their own abilities, they wanted more? Do they even imagine the imbalance that would generate?

The progressive increase of powered people was already doing that much destruction for them to want to hurry things up.

And, the worst part, they were in the last items of the list, just two remaining, one because Phil stopped them in time, for the other? They hoped that they were still looking for it.

But most importantly, he hoped they could win this.

In the front of his platoon, with his sons and friends leading the other sections that had surrounded the place, he prayed to every god, and invented some new ones as well, that no more people had to live with the fear of an uncontrollable force of themselves destroying others and themselves.

And that they, as the people designated to protect them, can fulfill their mission.

Chapter 29: Can you hear the sirens?

Notes:

So, you must be wondering "Author, why haven't you been uploading the last weeks?" and, to that I must give a little explanation: The degree that I am doing at the university has 3 levels of English that I have to pass and I discovered that I can skip the first ones and take the last one directly if I do not take any class before the exam so the smartass that you are reading right now thought "I have been watching this English-speaking streamers for almost 2 years now, they have to serve me for something" and decided to enroll myself in the final of English 3 being 10 days away from the exam and having no idea what exactly they give in the course (Spoiler alert: It didn't end well). I hate English, is too silly, why are there more than one past, present and future, what do you mean I must know the difference between simple, perfect and continuous wtf I already know how to apply them, let me be but whatever, I'm back, kind of, I'm going in vacation next Wednesday so probably this Saturday is my last update in a month SORRY

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Can you see the enemy line?

Everyone feels it coming closer. Both sides, one surrounded, the other one approaching, ready to get carried away by this waltz whose end is the fall of a side which luck, skill and dexterity will decide.

We're braver than a lion. We're steady in our state of mind. Keeping our composure.

A mantra of victory repeating in everyone's minds to remain strong.

To win.

A Battlecry. And you just can feel it taking over.

The enemy didn’t know the heroes were coming, but they were ready anyway, always ready, knowing that they wouldn't back out without a fight.

Chaos broke out in seconds, the flying heroes appeared from above being led by the Angel of Death, another two ground groups directed by the Blood God and Mort Spirit blocked the other two possible entrances/exits in the ground.

One of them, the pig masked hero’s team, rushed up the barely finished concrete stairs, looking for the enemy, while the other one stayed examining the wooden boxes full of stolen materials for the mutation formula.

There were also makeshift cages and metal stretchers, clearly not made by a blacksmith (or a professional in metal control, it looked like a beginner made them, the Soot’s knew very well how that looked) where a few people layed.

2 women and 3 men, it seemed, but it was hard to tell due to their features and bodies disfigured, with bloody clothes covering them.

The only conscious of the 5 was a man, also being the only one locked up and not lying on a stretcher like the others.

The situation was informed to Eret, who was still outside. They were leader of the backup group, she had communication with all the groups and was the brain of the improvised tactic.

“You guys keep going, I will call the doctors in so keep the ground floor safe. Do you think that they are good for transport?”

“I think they need urgent help, if I’m gonna be honest, their pulses are too weak but I fear that moving them could cause more damage and even death” Wilbur responded, already moving his guys.

Eret has way too many responsibilities and he knows the risks, but she also knows that there's one way to be fast and not move at the same time.

“Medical despatch, I will need you to be prepared for 5 people, 4 of them unconscious with severe cases of blood loss but, before, tell Ranboo and Tommy to teleport to me”

“Copy that” A doctor replied.

Minutes later, the two teens were in front of them, looking slightly shocked.

“Ok, I need you to know that this is dangerous, we might let 5 people die if we are not careful and fast”

The plan was simple: the two of them entered the building, grabbed the victims, and then teleported to the garage they were in. The place was safe, Wilbur was taking care of it, and both of them accepted easily.

Wilbur, on the other hand, almost had a heart attack when he saw who ‘the doctors’ were.

Later on, he might admit that it was a good plan and all the lives were saved because of it, but right now he was terrified.

“What the fuck are you guys doing here?" He exclaimed, ignoring everything else happening there.

Both of them shrugged.

Notes:

Ok, so, Ranboo's powers are a little bit tricky, so, in order to go somewhere, he should have gone previously or, at a minimum, have a mental image of where they want to go, that's why they enter the building walking before teleporting and he knew where Eret was bc they saw her there
AND, in case you didn't notice, the title is from the song "Battlecry" (Yes, I watch Philza Minecraft actively, how did you notice? I'm literally watching him rn that's the only reason why I'm uploading this so late lmao my guy found slime chunks I think)

Chapter 30: Too much but don’t panic

Notes:

Hi! I kinda forgot I had to upload, sorry about that, I got back from vacation and immediately had to start with classes so it was a hard change, don't hate me so much for this one (If there's anyone still here lmao)
Enjoy ;)

Chapter Text

“Transport patients” Tommy said, without a care in the world, walking to the bloody scene.

It was horrible, honestly.

The person he walked to had its eyes closed and they might be dead. If you tell him they are dead, he would probably believe you even if he can see their chest rising a little.

The rest of them didn't look better, but his attention was on this person specifically.

He passed his arms under them and the body shifted over his touch like it was jelly. He does not know anything about medicine nor anatomy but he is pretty sure that isn't supposed to happen.

He looked at Ranboo, who was standing next to him, paying attention to the person in his back.

Both stretchers have little to none distance between them so they have to be next to each other.

“I will wait for you in there” Tommy said, barely moving his arm to touch the other and get his powers.

In a blink, he has a person depending 100% in his grip and they are a few feets away from the medical assistance.

Seconds later, Ranboo is also there, with an expression of clear disgust and another person in their arms.

They left the two bodies in the designed places and looked at each other.

“3 more to go, let's go, bossman” Tommy said instead of immediately teleporting away, feeling that his friend needed a second.

He extended his hand for the other to take it when ready.

Which he did, after sighing and shaking their head, probably preparing themselves mentally for what was waiting for them there.

The same horrible scenario appeared in front of their eyes after the feeling of the world shifting.

Wilbur was still there, looking everywhere just to make sure this was safe.

“Shouldn't you be leading your team? Helping the others?” He asked, walking to the next body next to Ranboo, that was going to the one next to it.

“My group is in charge of protecting this floor while you guys are here so that's what we are doing” Wilbur responded, briefly looking at the stairs.

This time, the person in the stretcher wasn't looking as bad. Or, at least, they seemed to have bones and that is always a good sign.

He put their arms over their chest, for them to not bother.

“Be careful with her head” An unknown voice said “She is developing mental powers” The guy ended.

Tommy turned around to spot a man in a cage, conscious but barely standing.

“Just save her. All of them, please” He said in a heartbreaking whisper.

“We will” Tommy nodded “And we will come back for you too”

The guy tried to nod, but the movement was so hard for him to make that it stayed down.

He turned back again and carefully grabbed the woman, resting her head carefully against his chest before making any other movement.

When he looked at his side to use Ranboo's power, his friend wasn't there anymore.

“Wha- Have you seen En-” He asked, looking for Wilbur with his eyes but leaving the question in the air when noticing that there was no one there.

He was alone, only with the caged man (if he was still awake, he didn't know) and the unconscious woman.

“Ok, stay calm, we are fine, everything is ok, don't panic” He murmured to himself.

He placed her back down and inhaled sharply.

Fuck. He is panicking.

Chapter 31: When things go slightly wrong.

Notes:

I'M SO SORRY FOR DISAPPEARING AGAIN OMG I'M SO EMBARRASSED, I just felt like shit because I couldn't write anything when the notification that I had to upload popped so, even if I already had some chapters done, I couldn't bring myself to post them :(
I'm writing a little now tho, I really want to finish this and post the other side stories I already have (I can't post them because they have spoilers of things I haven't wrote here lmao)
I promise to not give up on this one
While I was to update this, my new driving teacher reminded me that my first class is tomorrow and now I'm anxious af I'm terrified so if I don't come back then I was not made for driving (I'm literally shaking while writing this lol I'm not ready for this)
ANYWAY I will distract myself writing more of this so I can forget about anything else <3

Chapter Text

Turns out, the villain's plan for ‘something going wrong’ was to barricade themselves on the second and third floors.

Technoblade discovered that much when he and his team went upstairs and were immediately greeted by a gang of 10 or 15 people ready to finish them off.

He had only a group of 5 (without counting himself) but they were clearly more trained for this.

If he had to guess, he would say that only 4 of them knew what they were doing while fighting.

They were down pretty easily, to say the least, and so his team got the chance to get themselves further into the floor.

Technoblade never gets scared, that's just a fact of him, but times and missions like this always leave him in a state of on edge that he can't define.

He feels vertigo, like if he is on a tightrope, several meters above the ground, trying to get through to the other side.

He will never admit that he is scared, but his skin aches as he painstakingly calculates every tiny move he makes.

They go through a door (well, calling it a door is an overestimation, it's just a hole in the wall where a door was supposed to be placed but, for obvious reasons, wasn't) and metal plates grew behind him, blocking the exit, as if from a video game.

Of course, there had to be a metal controller here.

He tried to kick it but, even with his super strength, it got barely bruised. The thing is thick then.

But the villans don’t know where they are, or they are stupid, because they got locked in side of their shelter, the only door closing being the one that allows them to go outside.

That’s what they needed anyway.

“We have to keep on going, we will worry about this later” He said to his team, leading them to the next room.

This is stupid, it’s literally like a videogame and they were heading to the next level. Thinking things like that made him relax, if only a little.

Carefully, they entered.

With every step they take, Techno feels the pressure weigh even more. He is super strong, yes, but this was going to be his downfall if he had to make sure this went well all on his own.

All of these people behind him, friends that he doesn’t talk to very often, coworkers, had to come back home safe, knowing that no one is trying to make their lives difficult anymore, but so does he and his family.

But they don’t know what the other ones are capable of, they don’t know how they will attack or if they are being guided to a trap or not.

Does that stop him? Of course not. They kept going stealthily, checking that each new room they entered was empty (there was one that wasn't, that had a small group of what looked like 4 scientists, who begged for mercy and to be poached instead of killed).

Maybe he contacted Eret more than needed, though, he made sure their brain knew every step they took and she already sent Wilbur’s team to help with the exits while telling them to keep going.

Another room. Empty.

And then another and another, all of them were empty, until they found one that wasn’t.

Chapter 32: Where things go to hell.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“Mayday mayday” The walkie-talkie screamed, quietly in Wilbur’s end because he wanted to be 100% concentrated on the kids he was looking for, but this distress call specifically got his attention even if it wasn’t as loud as it should.

A few minutes ago, Techno had also made one, but his tone was way more chill and he calmly explained that they would need someone able to re-open the door or, if it wasn’t a risk to the infrastructure, to dig a hole in the wall for them to get out.

Now, however, it was a genuine panic voice from someone that was in his twin brother’s team, so he ran upstairs, with the rest of his team.

(Was it a good idea for all of them to leave the floor they were looking after? Maybe not but his brother needed him so he couldn't think of any other logical thing to do).

The entrance was still closed, some kind of metal covering the opening, and they might need to calculate the weight this place is supporting or if there is any important beam that generates a demolition after its rupture.

In his anxious eyes, that would only mean taking time. Time they could be spending trying to rescue the other’s instead so, again, he thought logically (and unrealistically, where lives are in danger) and went through the wall.

He tried the metal first but was way more thick than the rest of the construction and he could’t waste more energy than strictly necessary.

Then, he ran the labyrinthine rooms, not even bothering in the order, going through whatever comes his way to get to the call for help as soon as possible (That probably wasn't the most useful thing either, considering that, at one point, he almost threw himself out of the building thinking there were even more rooms on the other side).

It was also very slow (although maybe everything seemed way too slow when his brother needed him and he wasn't there to help him).

When he FINALLY ( finally ) got to where the chaos was happening his heart stopped.

There was too much chaos, way too much, and Techno was fighting with all his strength, half of his team out of commission.

The floor, and only this room’s floor, was trembling non stop, as if the structure of the whole building was different here (maybe it was, the floor was made of an uneven wood, somewhat misshapen and even splintered, probably made by a beginner controlling matter).

They were also surrounded, but moving, never stopping their movements as different logs, coming out of the same ground and disappearing irregularly, tried to knock them down.

It was unpredictable, like a game where you are not supposed to touch certain parts because it will disappear.

Another hero stepped where he shouldn't and was elevated, just a little, with a lanky branch that unbraked his balance, only to fall with his belly against another pillar that quickly rose to the ceiling, crushing him and stealing all the air from his lungs just for later letting him fall, unconscious.

Wilbur moved fast, going through all the poles in his path as if they didn't care (because, indeed, they don't) and caught him out of the air, before his head could hit the ground, now, having a body that did care about solid objects, he did his best to move both of them out of danger.

Some sticks tried to get him off balance but he managed to traverse them by controlling the atoms in his feets.

With only two heroes remaining in the fighting zone, the other all safe in a corner, Wilbur ran back in.

When he got back to back with his brother, Technoblade gathered the needed courage to attack without thinking in his balance, raising his ax and throwing himself with all his might on one of the 3 attackers.

The movement didn’t last long, however, as another one noticed and built a wooden wall between the villain and the weapon, causing it to be embedded in it.

For a normal person, taking it out would have been even impossible, but for the super strength of the Blood God it was nothing more than a simple movement in which the ax could easily have broken (not his, though, as it was specially made for him and was as strong as him).

The brutality of the movements, on the other hand, did cause more than the attack itself, causing the villains to protect themselves in thick wooden walls, increasing the randomness and speed of the movements on the ground due to the fact that they could no longer see their victims.

To be fair, none of them had ever been in an earthquake before but it pretty much felt like one, Wilbur even wondered how the place was still standing.

Notes:

I will admit it now, this was inspired in Avatar. I looked for another references, gave up, started re-watching ATLA (just for entertainment, I actually forgot of this thing with exams and wanted to watch something fun) and came back here with the best ideas.

Chapter Text

Tommy didn’t have a walkie-talkie, of course, he wasn’t even supposed to go inside the danger in the first place, so when he found himself alone in the abandoned building, without powers nor idea of what to do, he sort of panicked.

Against all his instincts, he exited the room with the two unconscious people.

He couldn’t remember if non-team leaders had a way to communicate with Eret or not but at this point he prayed to find someone, anyone to just tell him what to do or ask if they have seen his friends.

All the floor seemed empty, maybe he should get out?

“We did it! Let’s go, go, go!” Someone screamed from upstairs suddenly.

And with it, the inexplicable feeling that every human being had vanished from the face of the earth disappeared, making him follow the sound like a fly to light.

However, by the time he reached the precarious stairs and climbed them, no one was there.

A wall was broken, though, right next to what looks like a big metal plate covering a door-sized hole.

Going through it, he managed to see a glimpse of a hero, running in an off-view direction, and he followed, always seeing them turn in some direction and never being able to catch them.

They stopped after a few minutes that felt eternal and Tommy noticed that he recognized Nemesis and Reynard.

“The Mort Spirit is not answering where they are” One of the heroes he didn’t recognize said, looking helpless.

But they didn’t got time to make a plan because the floor started trembling suddenly. And, of course, they decided to run to the starting point.

The walls were almost completely destroyed due to the ruckus going on inside. The one reason why the room is not in the same condition is because of some thin wooden strips, which almost look like vines, that are hooked to the ceiling, giving stability to the rest of the room.

You don’t have to be a genius to notice that this was, not only a trap but also made by someone with a terrifying amount of knowledge and experience.

Inside of the weird swamp environment, surrounded by moving canes of wood with a big variation in shape and length, there was a small number of people, all easily recognizable by their hero costumes and, behind an surprisingly still standing wooden wall, 3 people, moving rhythmically.

The guy in the middle moved like he was dancing, flowing and graceful, flawless movements that even looked beautiful, but the other two were doing a poor imitation that was surprisingly working (Although they may not even believe that it is so).

Tommy made his way between the heroes who planned how to help and were taking away the unconscious heroes. It was an almost instinctive but firm movement when he pushed one of them, discovering one of the conveniently useful powers from the unacquainted guy he was moving (which he almost dropped, by the way).

Similar to Eret’s, one of the guys whose name he wouldn't remember even if it cost him his life, had the physical ability to turn themselves bigger or smaller.

In any other situation, or even just a few days before, Tommy would have panicked, not knowing what to do or how to control this new possibility, but after training tirelessly with the leader of the superheroes, he can confidently say that this is extremely easy.

With no one noticing his presence yet (except maybe the guy he tried to push), Tommy shrank down to an ant-like size and mentally thanked Tubbo for his incredible skills in getting his suit to fit his new form before running right after the skilled villain.

From the moment his hand lost contact with the power lender until he reached where he wanted to be, his body began to gradually enlarge, giving him just enough time to pass between the legs of one of the attackers and position himself behind the group before returning to its normal size without being perceived.

And, without anyone having time to react, he performed a low kick, sweeping in a semicircle around him, tackling all three villains in one blow.

Although, maybe and just maybe, he didn't think about the consequences or the fact that the whole room depended on the vines controlled by those who just lost all control of the situation.

So they fell.

3 villains.

4 heroes.

No exception.

Notes:

Ok, so, in case anyone didn't understood the end, the heroes took the unconscious heroes that where in a corner to the hallway where they were standing, none of them had time to get in the room for the time Tommy did so the only one there where Tommy, Wilbur, Techno and a random guy (apart from the villains, of course)

Chapter 34: Beginner's luck. Maybe.

ME?! UPDATING?! ON A DAY THAT ISN'T WEDNESDAY OR SATURDAY?! AT THIS TIME?! MORE LIKELY THAN YOU THINK :D
Take this as a treat bc I'm writing again and I'm really proud of myself for that

Chapter Text

First, they had ground under them. Then, it was falling and, therefore, they were too. Finally, they weren’t and they hadn’t.

Is not that the floor is floating and is more that they are floating because their feets are no longer touching anything, nor any other body part is.

He opens his eyes, even if he doesn’t remember to close them in the first place, and sees equally shocked expressions on his friend’s faces.

There’s confusion, desperation and relief all in one and time feels like it stopped working for a little but then he feels like he is moving and with that, the unbearable beeping that he was hearing (since when? how can he calculate that if time just now started to work again for him?) begins to subside, giving way to an even louder noise, full of screams and despair.

“SOMEONE GRAB THEM I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG I WILL BE ABLE TO DO IT MYSELF!”

“What was that!?”

“Is everyone all right?”

“What is he doing here!?”

Everything was way too confusing to even try and understand what was happening, it was way more interesting the feeling of floating anyway, lacking that constant that nobody ever notes, the feeling of touching something, as if one of his 5 senses stopped working.

The sense of touch returned sooner than it seemed, when one of the superheroes took him by the shoulders and returned him to solid ground.

“That was good, but don’t do it again” The same person said to him, the voice was familiar but he couldn't place who it was exactly but they were close enough so that the words actually entered his brain instead of being dismissed as background noise.

He nodded, the vertigo he felt is not something he wants to repeat any time soon anyway.

The person left him alone, catching his breath, while the rest of the team had a heated argument between themselves and the walkie-talkie (In which was probably Eret). Again, there were a few familiar faces but he was a little bit disoriented to even think of their names.

Slowly, crawling across the floor, Tommy peered over the edge of what used to be a room under construction, now floorless, and everything was worse than how it sounded or felt, because from there, he could see an arm (only one, among the other 3 people who used to be next to him, attacking his friends, a few minutes before) under the rubble of material and wood.

His head spinned and he had to move his face to just stop looking, even if the horrifying image will probably stay in his mind like an oil stain in your cloth, that you want to take away but always leaves a mark.

He is also distracted by Wilbur, who rushes towards him the second he notices him not getting up and even looking at that scene.

“Don’t do that, rule number one, never look behind when the enemy has fallen, just keep your eyes up, it’s better for your mental health” He said with an uncharacteristically soft voice, cupping Tommy’s head (or, well, his mask) with his hands.

Tommy nodded in response, knowing that he won't be able to even think in a way to reply, much less say something.

“You really shouldn't be here tho, here, let’s get you outside” The mort spirit said, getting up and extending a hand for his companion to take. The kid took it hesitantly, still a little dizzy, but followed the older one anyway.

Fortunately, the other seemed to understand that the events recently experienced were too much and slowed down the pace, putting one arm around the other's shoulders and guiding him downstairs.

There, they found a worried Ranboo, moving around the room he left Tommy in with clear worry.

He looked really relieved at the sight of the blond masked with a pumpkin, going as fast as possible towards both heroes.

“I’m so sorry, the person I was assisting stopped breathing and I needed to hurry and-” They started to justify themselves and it was as if a cascade of words escaped from his mouth, so nervous and fast that Tommy doubted he was breathing correctly.

“Hey, hey, it’s ok, big man, just get us out of here” He tried to calm them easily, raising his arms and slowly bringing them closer to the other.

His only answer was a weak nod and a twist in his stomach that told him they have teletransported to another place, although the cold fresh air with a little antiseptic smell were also helpful in determining this.

The 5 people they rescued were being treated by the doctors of the team, and the chaos from the inside seemed like nothing compared to the one out here, with every specialist running and screaming, doing their best to keep those people alive until the ambulances arrive.

But the lack of heroes in this area and the fact that there was a stable heat monitor in every patient were good indicators that everything was going according to plan.

Chapter 35: The smell of problems.

Welcome, FINALLY, to the 5 senses of the problem arc
AAAAAAAAAAA I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M FINALLY UPLOADING THIS LET'S FUCKIN GOOO LOOK AT ME GOOO

Chapter Text

The kids disappeared without saying goodbye, which took a weight Wilbur didn’t even know he had from his shoulders.

Not having to babysit while trying to improvise a plan to stop a dangerous group of villains was, and will always be, a win for him, that’s for sure. A pretty headache was starting to set in already.

He went back towards his and Techno’s team, they had to keep going, the air team was gaining terrain in the upper floors and they had to close all exits in the ground to meet in the middle, with all the villains locked up and surrounded.

When he got there, however, his brother and the people under his charge were nowhere to be seen.

“We have to keep going now, the air team is almost in position, they are waiting for us” Niki informed.

“Blood God and the other teams are also almost there, Monarch asked them to hurry so we probably should do the same” Another hero from his team, Manifold (Wilbur was pretty sure that that was his surname but he never talked to him outside so he couldn't know), explained as well and, suddenly, he remembered that his communicator was muted.

He quickly turned the volume up again and nodded to the rest of his people.

“Which direction did they take?” He asked, going back to his professional self, the one that was more serious and trusted the others to protect themselves and cover his back just as much as he does both things.

The one that wasn't scared that the kid he was babysitting in the middle of a fight will get hurt because some other heroes wasted their time making him clean instead of teaching him how to defend himself.

They all walked in the opposite direction in which his brother did and explored the rest of the place, now a little bit more thoroughly because of being less in a hurry.

It was a little bit unnerving that everything seemed in place, no one was attacking them in every corner and there wasn't a lot of proof that this was a villain base at all.

If they hadn't found themselves face to face with some people a few minutes ago, he would have thought that they were looking in the wrong place. Everything was quiet and way too empty for comfort.

Wilbur tried to reassure himself that maybe it was because there weren’t a lot of people doing these experiments, maybe they got them already, maybe the only few remaining were hiding in the center of the building where they are supposed to corner them.

There was no way they escaped, none of them, even if that is maybe the scariest theory of them all, worse than the “this is a trap” one, because they couldn’t fight and end this now if it was the case.

They needed to finish this now. They are already late fighting it, they can’t risk not ending this today.

So they kept going, together, looking room after room, locking everything that gave an out, leaving only one exit available: the one where Eret was, with the back up.

Of course, because this was the second floor the possible escapes were less than in the lower one but they still closed windows and cracks in the walls, just in case, in as little time as they were capable of.

Then, with Eret’s ‘Go ahead’, they proceed to go up to the floor where everything was meant to happen.

The other teams were already there, the remaining villains were cornered in the big area that didn’t even have walls yet, just some support columns and little more places to hide.

Suddenly, another magnetic field arose from the center of the place, making everything vibrate, and only the origin of it was on their feets, the rest of the villains kneeling around them.

And then another. And another.

Dust began to fall from the ceiling, some heroes lost their balance and others grabbed each other to avoid falling. But none of them could move forward.

As the attacks passed, Wilbur managed to adjust to the repetitive motion, making it easier for him to modify his feet to go through each vibration, and he noticed that many of his companions were starting to get used to it in their own ways as well.

Probably even the villains must have noticed because they started to run towards them like bugs escaping after you lift the stone they are hiding under.

It was hell, with all the movement and screaming, and Wilbut had to run to protect the ones that were still not used to the movement yet (which was, approximately, half of the team).

They had practiced this, because of course they have, the heroes would attack them eventually and this was only more prove that they are fucking late.

Chapter 36: The feel of problems.

Notes:

Would you guys believe me if I tell you that I finished writing this book? Because I don't believe myself EVEN THO I DID IT
I'm so happy this silly thing gets to be over finally <3

Chapter Text

Phil was in the air with his team, the one that could fly, when the leader attacked.

It knocked him off balance a bit but not enough to make him fall, and he recovered quickly.

He couldn't say the same of the others, though, almost half of his highground group falling with the rest that were on the ground.

He still had the advantage so, when the rest of the villains moved from the middle, from the strange human shield they had for their leader, Phil already had a plan.

It took him a few shots to get used to the way the arrow’s direction changed with the magnetic waves but he finally managed to hit the guy's arm (He was aiming for the head or neck but at least that helped to stop the tremors a little).

Phil saw with a triumphant smile how the leader grabbed his arm, suppressing a scream. He then took a few breaths, the rest of the heroes taking those little seconds to their advantage.

Then, the Magnet Knight locked eyes with him, the smile he had erased itself from the heroes face slowly, and broke the arrow as if it was nothing more than a dry noodle, only leaving the point in his arm so it didn’t start bleeding, only to throw it to the side like trash and redirect his attacks towards him.

The magnet fields weren’t strong when they didn’t have an specific target, when they were only going from the center to the exterior and used as a shield or making some kind of dome, but when they were directed at someone, when they were used as a lazer, it could fuck shit up really badly.

It was impossible to dodge too even if Phil was already moving from his initial spot, there was no time for him to notice the guy was about to aim for him when he was being pushed to up and down and to the sides, all at one.

At the moment, it felt as if there were millions of kids pulling from every single one of his feathers (some of them staying put but others flying away) and limbs, and then he was on the floor, out of breath, not even being able to scream in pain.

The attack might only have lasted a few seconds, a minute maximum, but the residual pain left him out for a while longer.

Mentally, he apologized to his team, being the leader meant to be there for them and guide them but right now he felt like passing out. He also hoped his attempt to stop the guy helped them a little bit.

He wasn’t worried about his well being, his brain was so centered in everything that was wrong and hurting in his body to concentrate in a little bit more worry, but then he heard steps and the robotic voice of the guy that just attacked him and his aches went to the background.

“I don’t know why you are making such an effort for this, there are problems bigger than making some people's dream became true” Magnet Knight said and even if Phil couldn’t see him, he knew he was shrugging “but whatever, I don’t expect you to understand, you were born with your powers after all”

He wanted to argue, he wanted to tell them that he knew that there were people who wanted powers but he also knew how much pain it can cause, all the difficulties it can bring, all the good things that not having a power had.

He, however, couldn’t even open his mouth, he even doubts his voice is going to be any louder than a whisper if he manages to do so.

So he stays silent and accepts his fate.

It is obvious that the guy wants to finish him, they already gave him the evil speech and everything, so he just closes his eyes, apologizing again, and lets whatever is going to happen to him, be.

Notes:

This is an awful timing with Phil's lore on qsmp and this chapter, isn't it?

Chapter 37: The taste of problems

Notes:

I didn't re-read this chapter because I didn't have much time recently but I DO remember it took me a lot, as every fighting scene you are going to be reading here
This is a little bit angsty and it probably should have a little content warning for biting? Its nothing but if you want to skip that part just don't read the part parked with * its just one line so it isn't much
There are also trust issues, maybe, is that worth a trigger warning?

Chapter Text

Techno saw everything.
From the moment Phil shot to when the Magnet Knight shot him, so when the guy started walking towards his father he started to run towards him.
He was in the other part of the room, it was hard for him to not lose them from sight, but he never looked away anyway.
Some people tried to get in his way but nothing distracted him or slowed him down.
*He just punched, kicked and even bit until he tasted blood whoever decided to be brave enough to stop him from reaching his destination.*
He was on the other side of the room and time was already short enough for them to think of shortening it a little more.
His dad was being a distraction to the cost of his own health and Techno would be damned if he didn't stop that.
But he didn’t even get halfway there when other people of his high grown team landed in front of his father, using a shield to stop the attack directed to him.
Right.
Everyone has a team, everyone is taking care of each other's backs and he shouldn’t give up everything else just because his family is in danger, he already knows this (That doesn’t make him change direction any easier).
He tries to remember the name of the person who possibly saved Phil's life.
Bagzouille? Techno can only remember that she is on exchange from another district, one far away, and her last name is something like 'Jones'? She has pretty yellow, duck-like wings and that’s why she ended in the flying team.
He promises himself to talk to her later, when this is over, and maybe give her the recognition she deserves.
After a few seconds of returning to reality, where he must be a responsible team leader, he scans with his gaze the state of the rest of the heroes that accompany him.
(He also has to stop the urge to see how his brother is doing, trusting the other group as well)
There’s barely some time to think before he is fighting again.
It's always a hard task to see how the others are going when you are also fighting for your dear life, it always felt like a solo battle the second an enemy was in front of him and the voices in his head chanted "Blood for the Blood god" but he managed to get to the place be is for a reason.
He can be professional even if he's blinded for a few seconds with feelings that shouldn't interpose in his job.
So he falls in the rhythm he's so used to, swinging his sword from side to side like he does in practice but a little bit more strongly and seriously. To hurt. Or even kill.
When the last of the guys attacking him fell or ran away, he took a deep breath.
He stood tall on the roofless fourth floor of the abandoned building, the tattered remnants of his royal outfit billowing in the wind. His gleaming crown and ominous pig mask adorned his imposing figure.
As he gripped his massive sword, its blade almost shimmered with an otherworldly crimson glow, a testament to his superhuman strength he was so used to and all the damage he can do (How dangerous he can be). The air crackled with tension, and the villains lurked in the chaos, almost taunting him.
His heart pounded with anticipation as he scanned his possible attackers, every muscle in his body coiled like a spring.
He took a breath again, concentrating, analyzing a few villains close to him.
With lightning speed, he charged forward, the ground trembling beneath his colossal steps.
Suddenly, a villain materialized right in front of him before he could reach the rest, wielding an enigmatic power that twisted reality itself. His surroundings distorted, but he fought through the disorientation, his sword cleaving through the illusions.
Another foe emerged, cloaked in shadows, launching tendrils of darkness toward him. With a deft swing of his sword, Techno shattered the malevolent tendrils, their inky remnants dissipating into the nothing.
Each villain tested his strength and wits with their bizarre powers, but his determination burned brighter than ever. He felt the presence of his unseen teammates nearby, offering support in their own way, even if he couldn't see them.
With unwavering resolve, Blood God clashed with his adversaries, his sword dancing with deadly precision. His fierce determination showed clearly beneath the pig mask.
The battle raged on, a symphony of clashes and roars echoing through the abandoned building. Blood God's superhuman strength and indomitable spirit made him an unstoppable force, a beacon of hope against the unknown powers of his foes.
Techno had fought valiantly, but the relentless onslaught of the formidable villains had taken its toll. His superhuman strength and endurance were pushed to their limits, and he teetered on the verge of exhaustion. The villains, sensing their advantage, closed in, their unknown powers growing more menacing with each passing moment.
He could hear his teammates, doing their best with their own fights, struggling as well. Maybe he took more than he could chew, maybe he thought more of himself than he should. Maybe, if he really thought of the situation as calmly as his father does, he would have been able to help them too.
As the tension reached its peak, when it seemed like Blood God might succumb to the overwhelming odds, a sudden, blinding burst of light erupted from the middle of the room. It was as if a supernova had been unleashed within the abandoned building, blinding everyone momentarily.

Chapter 38: The sound of problems

Notes:

Little reminder, or, well, notice: this chapter is happening at the same time that the last one so, while Techno is fighting, the next two chapters are happening outside

Chapter Text

Eret was helpless from outside but, at the same time, needed and indispensable.

They needed the eyes outside.

They needed someone that thinks coldly and guides them.

It was maybe the hardest part of the job of the leader. All of him told them to go, to fight with her team, to do something with actions and not just words but this strategy worked wonders before and there was no time to make that change.

But things were getting a bit out of hand.

All her drone cameras were falling one-by-one with all the magnetic fields damaging their circuitry, causing them to lose their balance and tossing them around as if they were useless.

Because they were now.

Soon enough, all his eyes on the scene were bling and they only could hear the horrible war from the distance.

And audio has always been a mess too, having more than one person in the line only generated a mess of shouts of orders or screams of pain.

She liked to think they were winning but almost all the heroes that stayed outside with him were now going (or inside) to help.

And, as if that wasn’t enough, they could swear he heard a deep, monotone voice mutter "No, Phil" with some concern.

In theory, this was easy, they were taking the guys out of guard, but maybe trying to attack when they didn’t know how many people they were going against wasn’t the best thing ever (and the worst part is that they all knew that, but giving up was worse than anything else and they had no time to think things better).

So, when none of his cameras flashed back to life, she knew what he had to do.

She had a few cards left. They always had a new plan, panic buttons to press, because getting to this position where the people trusted him to keep them safe and informed, requires those kinds of things.

She sent a few messages, made a couple of short calls and pulled a few strings, collected favors and got into some new ones.

All the heroes in the damn district and more were already on their way.

Then they took a deep breath.

With all the things going on, this one might be his worst regret.

She grabbed their walkie-talkie that connected him with the medical service, one separated from the rest, one that was almost unused during fights but was equally important to have.

He sighed deeply once more.

She couldn’t risk leaving his place right now, there was always the possibility that more villains would appear or that the entire building collapsed and they would need to warn them in time.

The eyes on the outside are necessary, Eret thought to himself, and repeated it, over and over again in her head, as a way to convince themselves more than anything else, and then finally spoke.

“I need Ranboo and Tommy to come with me again”

They just needed a little bit more time.

Nothing is going to happen to them, she promised to himself.

They were probably lying, but he trusted herself.

Maybe.

Chapter 39: The view of problems

Chapter Text

Tommy being called to Eret’s side again was unexpected but not unwelcome.

None of the teens were expecting to be let in the fight but it sure was better than watching a doctor try to do CPR on the slimy green body of the unconscious man they were still trying to reanimate.

Although helping make potions kinda reminded him of cooking with his father and it was the best thing he had been doing so far.

When the message that they had to go arrived, they immediately knew something was wrong so they wasted no time teleporting to the place.

The environment where they appeared was very different from what it was the first time they were requested.

There was a significant lack of people now, Eret being completely alone instead of surrounded by heroes.

Tommy guessed that things were worse than he originally thought.

"Look, I just need you guys to win time right now, I can't see how things are going inside, if you consider it's too much for you, you can come back here and nothing will be wrong, it's completely understand, it will be better, even, if you can visually inform me what's going on inside, but reinforcements are coming and I need to know if they still will have something to help, a battle to win"

It was too much, definitely, but thinking of all the kind people that had brought him here, helped him with his dreams until now, he knew he had to help.

Ranboo doubted a little bit more than him, not because they didn't want to help but because this was the first time he got even close to something this dangerous.

When Tommy stood in the midst of chaos, his heart started pounding with a mix of fear and determination.

It was his first time on a battlefield, and the scene before him was overwhelming. Heroes and villains clashed all around, some still fighting while others lay on the ground, their fates uncertain.

Beside him, Ranboo also felt like a fellow newcomer to this chaotic scene, looking just as bewildered. Despite Ranboo's slight experience, they were both in over their heads.

He scanned the battlefield, spotting familiar faces in different skirmishes, his allies (maybe almost family at this point) spread thin across the ruthless building. And then, he saw him, the leader of the villains.

With a deep breath, Tommy knew what he had to do. He had to get to the powerful figures on the battlefield, particularly the leader of the villains, to buy time for his allies to regroup and help.

Gathering his courage, Tommy turned to Ranboo. "We need to find a way to the center of this chaos. I have an idea, but it'll be risky."

Ranboo nodded, a mixture of determination and anxiety in his eyes. They held hands, and Tommy focused his power, invoking his ability to steal the abilities of others. A spark of energy coursed through him as he borrowed Ranboo's teleportation ability.

In an instant, they were gone, reappearing near the epicenter of the battle. The leader of the Magnet Knight was locked in a fierce duel with Phil's team, and the fate of the confrontation hung in the balance.

"Go tell Eret that things are not great, Phil's almost down and I think there are more villains up than heroes at this point, tell her to try and hurry up the incoming help" He said to Ranboo, almost screaming in their ears due to the amount of screaming and overall noise around them "I'll do my best to help here"

The other one nodded again, more insecure than ever before.

"I'll be back before you notice" Ranboo replied, almost trying to reassure himself, and teleported away.

Tommy knew he had to act fast. He reached out with his power, extending his hand towards a nearby hero who apparently controlled the elements.

I can work with that , he thought.

In a burst of energy, he absorbed the elemental abilities and felt their strength surge through him.

With newfound power coursing through his veins, Tommy launched himself into the fray, unleashing a torrent of water upon the villains. The sudden assault caught them off guard, giving an opening to strike to one of the heroes defending Phil, who is on the ground, still conscious and clearly ready to fight despite the pain he appears to be in.

As the battle raged on, Tommy's stolen powers continued to grow in power: Light that managed to blind the enemy, speed that allowed him to get closer, illusions that created fake clones of himself that distracted the enemies so he could run.

More and more villains started noticing that their leader was under attack and started heading towards them too, the rest of Phil's wigged team stopping them from getting closer.

And suddenly, he realized he has strength and is close to the guy that started it all. Maybe, he can win the fight himself.

Chapter 40: This is definitely filler.

Chapter Text

Wilbur felt weak and dizzy.

Everything was moving too quickly and he was moving too slow.

He got to the point where he couldn’t even feel if he’s translucent or not, if he was going to fall through the floor if he placed his foot a next step.

He probably hit his head.

Or, well, SOMEONE probably hit him in the head.

Scratch that, someone DEFINITELY hit him in the head, he can feel it in all his body.

Does he have a concussion? Is that really important right now?

It probably isn’t, but now he is dizzy and disoriented, struggling to discern the boundaries between solid and ethereal.

Niki and Fundy could see that their leader was in trouble, his usually sharp mind now clouded with confusion, trying to end their own fights to assist him as soon as possible.

"Spirit, stay with us!" Niki shouted from far away as she created a protective barrier of water around him, attempting to stabilize his condition or stop the people approaching him.

But even as she did, Wilbur's vision continued to swim, and he couldn't shake the feeling that he was slipping through the ground beneath him.

Fundy tried to offer support as he saw him slipping, using his powers to manipulate the air and create a cushion for Wilbur to land on and stop his fall.

"Hold on, Mort, we've got you," he said, but his voice sounded distant and distorted in Wilbur's ears.

As the battle raged on, Wilbur's perception of reality became increasingly distorted.

Do concussions give you hallucinations?

He could have sworn he saw Tommy, of all people, fighting alongside them. But that couldn't be right; Tommy was inexperienced and wouldn't be sent into such a dangerous situation.

Even though he WAS sent to help earlier that wasn’t even close as dangerous as this time is, an Eret knows this, he would definitely not be here now.

In his disoriented state, he just clung to the belief that his concussion was playing tricks on him. That was definitely it.

He had to focus on leading his team and completing their mission anyway, even if the world around him seemed to waver and shift.

Then, a familiar hero from another district soared overhead. It was Quackity flying with shiny yellow wings so fast that he almost missed it.

Was this another hallucination? He hopes it isn't.

Relief washed over Wilbur as he watched Quackity head straight for the center of the battle, knowing that help from other districts was arriving.

That was smart and sounded a little bit more to a plan Eret will follow.

But as he tried to maintain his focus, Wilbur's vision blurred, and the world around him became a swirl of chaos.

Even more heroes, weapons catching and people screaming. It helped with the general situation but Wilburs head felt like it was about to explode.

The last thing he saw before his consciousness slipped away was Quackity descending toward the fray, directly in the middle, and then everything went dark.

Chapter 41: The end of it all

Chapter Text

It's definitely a lot and Tommy might be going way ahead of himself, but he lifts the unconscious person that just gave him the power in his back, using one of his arms to keep them in place and another to get the bag with gadgets that Tubbo gave him.
With determination burning in his eyes, he pressed forward, determined to protect his friends and allies.
The clash between Tommy, the "Cherub of Demise," and the leader of the villains, Magnetic Knight, was a spectacle of power and strategy.
The magnetic villain manipulated metal debris in the vicinity, creating a swirling vortex of deadly projectiles.
Diving behind a crumbling pillar, Tommy reached into his bag, analyzing what was there.
Suddenly, Ranboo appeared right in front of him, looking desperate, eyes wide open analyzing whether he is okay.
Another metal bar passed too close to them for comfort and Ranboo teleported them away.
They had been trying to support him from the sidelines, using his teleportation ability to keep Tommy safe. However, the swirling debris and magnetic forces made it challenging to ensure both of their safeties right now.
At a critical moment, both Tommy and Ranboo attempted to teleport simultaneously, but their intentions diverged.
Ranboo, concerned for Tommy's well-being, had been trying to pull him away from the dangerous battle, aiming to teleport them both outside the abandoned building for safety.
Tommy, on the other hand, had decided to take a more aggressive approach. He saw an opportunity to move closer to Magnetic Knight, aiming to gain the upper hand and put an end to the conflict.
In the split second when both of their teleportation powers activated, Ranboo suddenly whisked away from the debris-filled battleground but Tommy got closer to the villain.
It was a brief respite as Magnetic Knight launched himself into the air, using his magnetic control to propel himself with incredible force.
Tommy realized that he needed to stay in close quarters to retain the strength he had stolen, so he grappled onto the leader of the villains, clinging to him with all his might. Their bodies collided, and Tommy's stolen strength surged through him, allowing him to match Magnetic Knight's powerful blows.
But then, disaster struck.
Tommy's grip on the hero with enhanced strength slipped, and he was sent sprawling to the ground. The strength he had relied on was fading, and panic set in as Magnetic Knight closed in, ready to deliver a decisive blow.
Desperation fueled Tommy's actions as he rummaged through his bag once more, pulling out a device Tubbo had crafted—a power suppressor.
With trembling hands, he activated it, creating a field that negated the magnetic powers of Magnetic Knight and locking them both inside a small dome where they were both balanced in terms of power. None of them had their super abilities, not that Tommy was used to that already.
The villain staggered, however, disoriented by the sudden loss of his abilities. Tommy seized the opportunity, launching a rapid series of strikes in his legs that left Magnetic Knight incapacitated. But he knew it wouldn't last long.
With quick thinking, Tommy retrieved a pair of high-tensile restraints from his bag, securing the magnetic villain's arms and legs. He had bought himself some time, but he needed assistance to ensure Magnetic Knight's capture.
As he awaited reinforcements, Tommy stood victorious, the power suppressor ensuring his adversary remained immobilized.
His first taste of battle had been a baptism by fire, but with determination and the unexpected tools at his disposal, he had managed to prevail against a formidable opponent.
All the team with wings came running to him, already shocked with all the things they just witnessed. They may have gotten too distracted defending him from the possible surprise attack to actually join in his fight but they were right next to him the second a leader was down and some of the villains gave up.
A portal appeared in the furthest part of the building, far enough from the stairs that it became enemy territory during the fight, and all the villains that managed to get there disappeared in seconds.
Others, not so lucky, got stopped by heroes and will probably face consequences.
It wasn't enough people to be worried about and they will definitely have enough time to stop them before they manage to do something else.
Tommy waited a little more and suddenly Quackity was next to him.
It was a complete shock at first, to the point where he started to think this was a dream, but then he remembered Eret's words.
"You did amazing, kid" Quackity said "I can't even begin to say how proud and sorry I am"
Tears appeared in his eyes at the price and the Magnet Knight tried to use this as a chance to escape.
Tommy's body hurt, like, a lot. He clearly overworked himself, but by the time the villain managed to move an inch out of the power suppressors effect, the rest of the heroes were surrounding them, stopping him in minutes.

Chapter 42: The aftermath.

Notes:

I'm very tempted to finish this book here and continue with the rest of the ideas in another but I'm not sure, I still want to expand Tubbo's character so much and I need it to expand Ranboo's (Since that wasn't going to get into this book, I already have it written, more or less, I'M HALF WAY THERE BUT IT'S SOMETHING OK)
I also added a little bit more of angst in Techno that I will like to put an eye on AND I have a little idea that includes Brian the crow too and that can't have its own book, that won't be worth it lmao
So now I have an epilogue and then I'll make Tubbo a one shot yesyes
And I will finish this TOMORROW, FINALLY, because I lost motivation and lengthening this seems unnecessary to me when it's not even getting the attention I hoped it to have

Chapter Text

Everyone was exhausted.

The aftermath of the intense battle left heroes and villains exhausted and battered.

Ranboo, with his teleportation abilities, had been tirelessly assisting in getting everyone to safety and summoning medical attention for those in need.

The debris-littered battlefield was now a scene of controlled chaos as doctors and first responders rushed to tend to the wounded.

Phil remained conscious, trying to move closer to where the leader of the villains and most of his family was.

He couldn't hide his pride as he clutched Tommy in his arms, hugging him tenderly and using his wings to wrap him a little bit harder.

"You did incredible, Tommy," he whispered, a mixture of exhaustion and pride in his voice.

Tommy, utterly drained from the intense battle and the use of his powers, could only manage a weak smile before fatigue overtook him.

He nestled in Phil's embrace and fell asleep, feeling the warmth of Phil's support and approval.

Quackity gently took Tommy from Phil's arms, careful not to wake the exhausted young hero.

He cradled Tommy and carried him outside, where the cool air provided a welcome respite from the chaos within the building.

Inside the building, Wilbur was being carried outside by Niki, while Fundy helped Karl to get Phil up to feet and walk with the rest.

Techno had muscles aching from the battle but powered through the pain, making his way outside as well.

Eret asked Ranboo to rest when safety was declared among the heroes but the kid kept overworking his power in order to save a few more people until they gave in to exhaustion, a hero from another district, called Sneegsnag, carrying him to the place where all the cars were parked and the people was reuniting.

Amidst the flurry of activity, Sam had been overseeing the transfer of captured villains to multiple police trucks.

Some were unconscious but still alive being taken to the prison's hospital, while others were conscious and being prepared for immediate imprisonment.

However, Sam's attention was drawn elsewhere when he saw Tommy in Quackity's arms.

His brow furrowed, and he demanded an explanation from the group, his anger simmering beneath the surface.

If Tommy, the little kid with the biggest heart he has ever known, was dead because of this, god knows that the fact that everyone here is a hero isn't going to give him a damn.

The rest of the heroes quickly recounted the events that had transpired during the battle, although none of them knew all the exact details, emphasizing Tommy's unexpected display of power and courage.

Sam, though concerned, couldn't help but acknowledge the truth in their words.

"You're right," he finally conceded, his tone a mix of pride and apprehension. "Tommy's potential is undeniable. A month ago, he wouldn't have been able to do even half of those things. But now... his future holds incredible promise and danger."

As the heroes gathered outside, with Tommy safely resting in Quackity's arms, they couldn't help but feel a mixture of relief and concern for what lay ahead.

The young hero had shown remarkable talent, and his journey was only just beginning, with new challenges and responsibilities on the horizon.

Tomorrow, Phil would rant against Eret for thinking sending the kids inside was a good idea.

Tomorrow, Tommy would dismiss most of his praises, asking to thank Tubbo for all the gadgets that, most likely, saved his life.

Tomorrow, most of the heroes will be off work, taking their time to rest and heal after what was one of the most dramatic fights in their territory.

Tomorrow.

But today, they all hug each other in silent support and respect.

One district feeling ashamed for their acts, clearly aware that they were in the wrong.

The other, just relieved that there were no major casualties but still preparing themselves mentally for what will be a hard time.

Chapter Text

After some medical checks on each one, being treated for their injuries or simply released for the lack of them, they were allowed to go back home.

Doctors and medical professionals worked tirelessly to ensure they were on the path to recovery.

As they prepared to leave the medical facility, Eret surprised them for having called Kristin to their aid.

She arrived just in time, her presence a beacon of comfort for the weary heroes, after the doctor finished with Phil's injuries.

She made sure every one of them was fine, enveloping them in warm, relieved hugs that conveyed her love and concern.

With a careful plan in place, Kristen orchestrated multiple journeys to transport the heroes back home, ensuring their comfort and safety.

The next morning, Tommy woke up in his own house, the memories of the battle still fresh in his mind but still wondering what happened after.

It was around 11 in the morning, just under 24 hours since the entire attack started.

His determination undiminished, he felt a sense of restlessness that drove him to visit Phil and Kristin's apartment.

Techno was the one that opened the door, half surprised that the kid was there but also having expected him to be.

As he entered their home and demanded explanations for the events of the battle whatever the fuck was all that, the heroes his family, who had faced their own struggles and doubts, gathered to offer explanation and ask their own question.

They knew that Tommy's journey as a hero was just beginning, and they were ready to help him navigate the challenges that lay ahead, but they all agreed that that was too much for all of them and promised to take it all slowly next time.

They took a mixture between breakfast and lunch before leaving to the hero headquarters.

Laughter and conversation filled the room as they savored their time together. Tommy, Ranboo, and Techno had their own conversations, sharing stories of the battle and discussing their experiences.

Their tranquility was disrupted by Wilbur, who stormed into the house with his usual dramatic flair, kicking the door open despite being perfectly capable of walking through it.

His presence demanded immediate attention, and the family exchanged knowing smiles.

"Since when is Brian a woman and capable of laying eggs?" Wilbur blurted out, his confusion evident.

Phil approached his son, equally puzzled, and joined him in examining Brian's nest, where two eggs, clearly different to the ones in the fridge, lay nestled together. The realization that these were actual eggs left the family bewildered.

"Can I keep one?" Wilbur asked the bird directly, bypassing the humans entirely. Surprisingly, Brian responded in the affirmative.

Wilbur carefully selected the smaller egg, claiming it as his own and declaring it his little princess, Tallulah.

He explained that she enjoyed music and played the flute, placing the egg inside his beanie for safekeeping.

Then, the larger egg was designated as Techno's, and Wilbur grabbed a yellow chicken plushie from the sofa to serve as a little nest as he handed it to his surrogate parent, who accepted it with a chuckle.

"He likes cooking and fighting, he's a warrior, but his family is his main priority," Techno stated, dubbing the egg "Chayanne" for reasons known only to him.

Phil was left utterly perplexed by the strange turn of events.

The family had no idea where these mysterious eggs had come from, but they decided to roll with it, just like that one episode of "The Simpsons" where Bart took care of two "bird" eggs that turned out to be dragons.

Ranboo stepped in, calming themselves as Chayanne's godfather and Tommy as Tallulah's. Niki declared her willingness to protect the little eggs with her life, solidifying their place as cherished members of the family.

And so, the two enigmatic eggs, Tallulah and Chayanne, became an integral part of the family's ever-expanding and unconventional household, adding an unexpected and heartwarming chapter to their adventures as heroes.

Notes:

I miss the little eggos a little bit to much and that's why they got a mention here, they have been gone for way too long and this isn't funny anymore, I want then back please
If someone is still here by now, thank you! Thank you for accompanying me in this journey and read all these crazy ideas that I thought would never see the light of life.
This story started while I was cleaning my house without music, which leaded me to think and ended up in a "What if I turn this into an SBI fic" and I starting taking notes in between of cleaning. Today I also cleaned my house without music and I cooked a few ideas but, differently to this one, most of them will stay at that: ideas that would never turn into something as big as this, so I hope you guys enjoyed this odd scenario where I DO expand and finish an idea.
I genuinely can't believe everything that's happened since I started until now and the fact that I don't have any more chapters to publish fills me with a certain sense of melancholy that I didn't expect to have.
So thanks again for trusting the process, I hope I get motivation to keep this story in another book soon :D

And just like that, it’s over. We tend to our wounded, we count our dead
Black and white soldiers wonder alike if this really means freedom
Not. Yet
