I'll Be Here For You Always (And Always Be With You)

Summary:

Kaoru groaned. "We've been planning this picnic for weeks! And it's hasn't rained once since then. I've got to have the worst luck in the world."

She peeked out again, then closed her eyes.

Rilakkuma made a sad sound, tilting his head onto Kaoru's shoulder.

She scooted closer, smiling sadly. "I'll be okay. Don't worry about me. We just need to wait a little longer for it to stop storming, and then we'll be setting up for our picnic in no time! You'll see."

Or, Kaoru struggles when a rainy day ruins the day's plans.

Title taken from Island Song (Come Along With Me) from Adventure Time.

Work Text:

Kaoru pulled open the curtain again, frowning.

"Come on, come on..."

Rilakkuma tapped her shoulder, tilting his head.

"It's been pouring for hours," Kaoru sighed, "Surely it's got to stop soon, right?"

Korilakkuma looked out the window, then turned back with a shrug.

Kiiroitori chirped cheerfully, nuzzling her cheek.

And yet, as the hours flew by, the rain only came down harder. The group stared out the window, waiting for a change, until finally, Kaoru growled, standing up and yanking the curtains shut.

Kiiroitori jumped, chirping worriedly as Kaoru stormed off.

Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma exchanged a look, then walked up to Kaoru, watching her back worriedly.

Kaoru let out a quiet noise not unlike a laugh, and Rilakkuma raised his eyebrows, shocked. He moved closer, tapping her back lightly.

Kaoru spun around, scowling. "What?!"

Rilakkuma jumped back, eyebrows raised.

Kaoru stared a moment before her face melted into one of guilt, tears springing from her eyes.

Rilakkuma leaned closer, frowning.

"Oh, Rilakkuma, I'm so sorry for yelling. That wasn't fair to you. Sometimes, I just don't know what's wrong with me!"

Kiiroitori pecked at a strand of hair, pulling lightly.

"But it's true! Just look at me, getting all worked up over nothing." Kaoru wiped at her eyes, huffing. "It's just a picnic. I don't know why I feel so upset..."

Korilakkuma sat down beside her, putting a paw on her hand.

Kaoru smiled sadly. "I guess I just got so excited about doing this. I've been preparing for so long. I-I made all this food," She cried, waving towards the full kitchen counter. "Just so that we could have a nice afternoon outside! And now- now everything is ruined!" She buried her head in her hands, crying softly.

Kiiroitori tilted his head, cooing at Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma urgently.

The pair moved closer, each wrapping an arm around Kaoru and holding her close.

At that, Kaoru only cried harder, curling into a ball and slowly rocking back and forth. Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma looked at each other questioningly and nodded, beginning to rock with her.

For a little while, the group said nothing, Kaoru's cries the only sound heard throughout the otherwise silent apartment. Finally, after about an hour, Kaoru's rocking slowed to a halt, no longer sobbing, but tears still quietly falling down her cheeks.

Slowly, she lifted her head up. Kiiroitori hurried over, hopping onto her shoulder and giving her an inquisitive look.

She nodded, looking away. "I'm feeling a lot better now."

Korilakkuma cooed gently.

"Really, I am. If I'm being honest, I'm still a little sad that we won't be able to have a picnic... But, we'll have to make do, I guess." She sighed, looking down.

After a moment, Kiiroitori started hopping up and down, chirping happily. He hopped towards the counter, trying to pull the picnic basket of food but struggling. Rilakkuma approached, picking up the basket and following Kiiroitori as he guided him. Kiiroitori moved to a spot on the floor, then tilted his head down.

Rilakkuma sat the basket down, still seeming confused. Suddenly, Korilakkuma perked up, hurrying towards the other room. When she came back, she had a blanket in hand, which she was quick to lay out by the basket.

Kaoru looked up, letting out a small gasp. "Of course, we can have our very own picnic right here in the living room! That way we won't get wet or cancel our plans! Oh, what a wonderful idea!" She hurried to stand, lifting her hands in front of her and flapping them happily.

Rilakkuma, Korilakkuma, and Kiiroitori cheered at the sight, sitting themselves down on the blanket and watching Kaoru eagerly.

Kaoru plopped down next to them, opening the basket and lifting items out. Rilakkuma reached towards a sweet, and Kaoru pushed it away playfully. "Now, now, Rilakkuma, you'll have to be polite and wait until everyone's food is in front of them!"

Rilakkuma groaned, plopping back down.

Kaoru laughed, then reached over, pulling him into a hug. Korilakkuma and Kiiroitori looked over and Kaoru laughed again, reaching a hand out. "Yes, you guys too!"

The group hugged, Kaoru tapping her fingers excitedly. "Thank you all so much for making you feel better. You're the best family I could have possibly asked for! Now come on, let's eat!"
