Art Dump

Summary:

This is going to be a conglomeration of art I've been inspired to make. Most of this will be PG, anything with more adult themes (swearing/foul language, violence/blood, etc, NO SEX) will be tagged in the chapter notes under trigger warnings. I'll add tags, characters, and the chapters/stories the art is associated with as I go.

I'll also be sharing on my Tumblr

Notes:

I've started drawing a lot more, which feels really good after going years without touching any sort of artistic medium other than writing. I'm picking it all up again and trying to work more on things that always bored me or were difficult for me (shading & backgrounds), so I'm kind of excited to see how I improve as I add more and more to this.

Chapter 1: Like Ordinary Men Ch. 12

Summary:

I got ambitious and drew a full couple pages of a comic for a small section of chapter twelve in mine and TP_HOND_S124's fic Like Ordinary Men (link to the chapter)

Notes:

Below is the text from the chapter the comic is based on.

Chapter Text

Jim turned around and started to go past the dumpster on his way toward the busy street again when the same piercing cry he’d heard earlier came from the dumpster itself. He leapt away instinctively, slamming into the wall of the building on the other side of the alley and drawing his arms up to defend himself, “What the fuck?!”

There was a soft whimper from the giant garbage can in response to his startled outburst. Jim stared at it for a moment before scrambling toward the bin and throwing the lid open. Something small, and dirty, and very much alive wiggled minutely from underneath the trash at the top of the heap. All Jim could see was a tiny blue hand with a snow-white palm before the thing opened its mouth and screamed the way it had before.

“Oh my God!”

He practically dove in head first to reach the tiny baby that lay tangled in literal garbage. Jim wiped the little thing’s face off, tossed the scraps of soggy food and other refuse off it, teetered for a moment where he balanced on his stomach and nearly fell in himself before he was able to scoop it up and pull it out of the dumpster.

“Holy shit!”

Now that he had it out of the FUCKING GARBAGE he could see that the baby was a Zora and it was tiny! He searched it quickly, looking for injuries, looking for anything that would indicate who or where its parents may be, Hell, he looked for any indication of what sex it was.

He had a million questions. First of all of them was, “What the fuck?!”

Notes:

Not me getting ambitious and then doubling down on that notion and doing TWO PAGES IN FULL COLOR when it had started as one in black and gray. Why. Why am I like this.

And I've already got a whoooole bunch more super ambitious pieces slated for coming chapters in Like Ordinary Men AND at least one in Desiderium on top of a HUGE 70+ chapter WIP I started writing this month. The goal is to get that one done by the end of the year but *nervous laughter* we'll see how that goes.

WHY. WHY AM I LIKE THIS?!

Chapter 2: Treasure Planet 20th Anniversary

Summary:

Happy 20th Anniversary Treasure Planet

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

This movie holds a very dear place in my heart. There are so many things I could say, but I'll end up crying, so I'll just share the piece I had last minute idea for (2am last night) and subsequently spent 10 hrs on to finish in time for the release date anniversary.

Here ya go.

Notes:

Not related to any fics I've written, just something that I felt I had to do on an almost primal level and decided to share here. It's going up on my Tumblr as well :3

Chapter 3: Desiderium Ch 18

Summary:

Art for ch 18 of Desiderium

Notes:

I sat on a plane for 6 hrs and was finally able to focus to finish this piece that I've been working on for *mumbles a number* weeks.
There's another I'm working on, I think I'll have in in gray scale that's literally for the next chapter. I should get it done and also posted today because I've got a decently long layover and then another flight. Yaaay

Chapter Text

Chapter text leading up to art:

Jim made a strangled noise in his throat. His whole body rocked forward violently as if he’d been struck in the middle of the back. His head snapped back, eyes wide with shock and pain, and he gasped in a sharp breath.

Five giant semi-transparent gray fingers thrust through his chest, gripped into a fist, and then the hand wrenched back.

Sidon’s heart skipped a beat.

The light in Jim’s eyes died in an instant and they rolled back in his head. His body moved with the motion of the grasping hand and then continued to fall. Sidon found himself launching forward to catch him before he could hit the floor.

Jim was limp in his arms. He searched for a pulse, but there was none.

“No…no! No! NO!

He clutched Jim’s lifeless body to his chest and felt tears falling down his cheeks before he’d realized he’d begun to cry.

A whispery voice spoke from all around Sidon and he searched for the source instinctively.

“Oh, this is a lovely one.”

A great ethereal being’s presence filled the room. They weren’t standing, instead they wafted about like a fog, dark as the night sky, with sparkling star-like points of color glimmering in the rolls and waves of their existence. They held a blue-gray hand palm-up in front of themself, a gleaming blue star flickering in the air above it, smoke-like tendrils of light swirled around the star.

Sidon stared numbly at the being for a moment before his eyes were drawn to the star. It pulsed like a heartbeat.

They turned their galaxy filled eyes to him and he sensed a smile on their face, though he couldn’t see one.

“This soul is acceptable. The treasure is yours.”

I don't know how well it comes across, but Brigante's eyes are SUPPOSED to be eclipses. I also don't know if it comes across well, but those are all Etherium-esque clouds around Sidon and are part of Brigante's normal form. They are able to change forms like Eris from Sinbad (the Dreamworks animated movie). Those of you that have read chapters 18 and 19 know what Brigante is like. Anyway, back to drawing :D

Chapter 4: Desiderium Ch 20 Extra Bit

Summary:

The lovely Velgamidragon emailed me with some angst inspired (can I say that?) by Desiderium Chapter 20 where Timetra and Brigit come in and see Silver holding Jim and Morph melted into a puddle of tears on Jim's chest.
This is the unwritten scene between Morph finding Silver and Jim before Timetra and Brigit get there.
So, of course, I had to draw it out because I'm a glutton for pain. And now I'm, with Velgamidragon's permission, sharing the scene with all of you.
HUGE thank you to Velgamidragon for writing this out and sending it to me and then for allowing me to share it!!

Notes:

I was not expecting the grayscale to be MORE difficult than if the piece was in full color, but holy heck was it a challenge!

Chapter Text

Email text:

Silver didn't know how long he knelt on the floor cradling Jim's body to his chest when he heard a chirp nearby. He uncurled from around Jim enough to look at Morph who was hovering before him.

"Morphy..." he breathed, his lips barely moving while Morph looked curiously between him and Jim.

Morph trilled in acknowledgement of his name and rubbed against his face then floated down to Jim. He chirped again, just a one note sound that meant he wanted attention, but Jim didn't respond. Not even a flickering of life stirred behind his closed lids. Morph chirped again and licked Jim's cheek, but still nothing. Now Morph let out a worried whine and rubbed against the same cheek he licked then moved back watching Jim's face.

Silver swallowed hard. Morph couldn't... he didn't understand what happened, and if the tears weren't flowing down his face already, they'd have started then. He tried to speak, but his voice came out as a hoarse whisper, "Morphy..."

This time, Morph didn't hear him. Morph darted to Jim's hand and forced himself underneath the relaxed palm with another pitiable whine while watching Jim.

"Morphy, Jimbo..."

Now Morph was looking at him, eyes wide and alarmed because something was wrong with the pup Silver had asked him to look after, and Morph flew up in front of his face, frantic and pointing at Jim, and Silver drew in a sharp painful breath. He He couldn't save his son this time. He had his chance last night, and he...

"I'm sorry, Morphy," Silver said through shuddering gasps. "Jimbo... Jimbo ain't... He's... not there anymore."

Morph's bright pink paled to a sickly color as comprehension seemed to dawn on him, and the weight of it crushed Silver. Tears started welling up in Morph's eyes as he slowly turned to look down at Jim and then melted into a literal puddle of them right on Jim's chest with the saddest, most hearbroken whimpering Silver had ever heard from his longtime companion.

Chapter 5: Character studies

Summary:

Just a dump of a bunch of doodles that I did to practice and get a better feel for my favorite Treasure Planet characters.
They all started a bit meh, and then by the third or fourth drawing of each one I felt like I had a handle on their design. I tried to do a variety of profile, 3/4 profiles, and as straight on with their faces as I could get from the screencaps I used as reference material.

Chapter 6: Like Ordinary Men Ch 20

Summary:

This took an age and a half (it feels like), but it's finally freaking done. Had this visual stuck in my head for a couple weeks while story boarding and writing Like Ordinary Men Ch 20 and I'm happy to finally get it out of my system.

Thank you to Velgamidragon for helping me come up with the idea for how the meteor shower could affect the sky and create an Aurora Borealis type look. I LOVE it!

And once again, like an idiot, I've forgot to sign the pic, so I'll have to do that and reupload it...at some point...

Chapter Text

Text leading to the image:

A smile broke across Jim’s face and his eyes - his beautiful, cerulean eyes - filled with tears again, “You big dumb fishstick…”

He started to laugh and he rocked forward until their foreheads bumped together. His hands slid down Sidon’s cheeks until he draped his arms over Sidon’s shoulders, and then he turned his head and kissed him very gently.

Sidon pulled Jim into his arms and fell into the kiss. His heart went wild in his chest, the air rushed out of his lungs, he was sure his bioluminescent spots were lighting up with the crazy emotions slamming through him all at once. Normally he was restrained enough that he could stop the biological lights all over his body from going off, but he couldn’t even begin to care right now.

Jim leaned back after a moment. The tears still in his eyes made them glitter, and he whispered, “Sidon, ask me again…please…?”

The solar event must have started overhead, because suddenly Jim was washed in faint green, purple, and blue light and it took Sidon’s breath away.

“Will you marry me?” Sidon asked when he'd found his voice again.

“Oh, Sidon…yes…yes, I will.”

(To be clear, the picture is showing a second kiss AFTER Sidon's bioluminescent lights have quit making a light show out of his body)

Chapter 7: Captain Hawkins

Summary:

Treasure Planet 22nd Anniversary

Notes:

This is supposed to be a drawing I did for Inktober, though I'm so incredibly late that it's not even funny and I decided that since I was so late in participating that all the drawings and sketches that I planned to do through the month (there were only a few, I don't have the stamina or time for 30 days of art in a row) that I'd put them all in here as an homage to Treasure Planet's 22nd anniversary.

Notes on my artistic approach:

-I hate Jim's soul patch in the Battle at Procyon game, so I didn't draw it. I'm also not the biggest fan of his slicked back hair, but I can forgive it. I believe that both were a choice of his in his attempt to figure out his personal style and that he later just shaves off the facial hair and that the slicked back hair is his way of growing out his hair again while also keeping it out of his face. I went with my personal favorite of showing off his bangs. I debated also giving him a ponytail, because I love long haired Jim, but you wouldn't be able to see it anyway, so I skipped it.
-Yes, that is Silver's hat. It was a gift from Silver on the day of Jim's graduation from the Interstellar Academy :3
-I originally planned to go with Jim's coat from the game, but it was so.... boring. Lorcana recently put out a card with Jim as a captain on it and I LOVE that coat, so I went with a combination of the two for this.
-Finally, the Inktober day this was supposed to fill was day 5, "Binoculars", and I loosely changed it to "spyglass", though clearly the spyglass is far from the focus of the drawing ^^'

I have a few more submissions that I wanted to post for today's celebration as well, but I wasn't able to get them all finished in time. I'll be trickling more in over the long weekend :3

Chapter 8: Oneirataxia Ch 18: No Chance For Bargaining

Summary:

Brigante finally gets their grasp on Jim.

Notes:

When I was posting this chapter in Oneirataxia, I completely forgot that I'd drawn this MONTHS ago, and just now discovered it when going through my gallery in search of all the drafts for the Wrecked comic. So here it is!

Chapter Text

Excerpt from the story:

Jim felt something wrapping around both his ankles and he immediately tried to jump away from the touch. Out of the edges of his vision he saw two mostly opaque whip-like black tendrils shoot up from the ground, and in the next moment they'd wrapped around his wrists and pulled taut.

He was dragged down to his knees despite how hard he fought against the hold on him.

"LET HIM GO!" Kate shouted.

She was running toward him, but more and more tendrils were shooting out of the ground underneath him and winding around his body, pulling him toward the darkness that he knelt on.

Jim’s mind reeled. None of this made sense; Brigante was so powerful and could do all this, so why hadn't they done it before? If getting his soul back had been their objective all this time, why had they waited until Jim was off the ship? What had been stopping them?

Lizzy's voice filled his mind as the memory of her beckoning him toward the crate that held the strange idol; It’s safe over here! I could feel what’s inside, and it’s good and safe and will keep the Devourer away.

That's when it clicked. Brigante couldn't get to him when he was on the ship! Something about that idol made it so they couldn't get near enough. If they had it now–

A tendril was wrapping its way up his chest and around his neck. Panic slammed through his veins.

Jim strained harder, frantically turning his head toward Kate. "KATE! The idol! The idol can–"

The tendril snapped across his face and a thick feeling as if his mouth was filled with fabric accompanied the motion.

Notes:

I feel incredibly vain saying this, but I am wildly proud of this piece. This whole project was very ambitious for me, because I am not great with anatomy, though I am trying and I ~think~ I'm improving, and I struggle a lot with shading/lighting. I also have never liked how metal appears when I color it, so I was also worried about the collar, wrist/ankle cuffs, and jewelry. I had to use so many reference photos to pull this off, and I had to make up a few things as I went since I couldn't specifically find what I was looking for, but I'm really happy with the end result. The figure doesn't look as stiff as I was worried they might, the anatomy is pretty proportionate, and though I can find some things here and there that I wish I'd caught sooner so I could fix them, I'm still really really proud of how it looks and far less critical than I was expecting I'd be.

I'm kind of interested to redraw it in a year or two, after I've gotten a ton of practice with putting out consistent comic pages, and see where my skills are then and compare how much I've improved.

Besides that, I think getting this to turn out the way I wanted it to, and far better than I expected, has given me the confidence to try more of my ambitious and complicated drawing ideas. So I guess I'll be attempting and sharing those too.

Ok, that was the end of my rambling. Thanks for checking it out :3
