B’Elanna sighed in frustration as she looked at the woman before her, listening as Kathryn requested successive updates about every system Voyager possessed. She had already turned in her engineering report, so the Chief Engineer was finding it irritating to verbally recite her report.

“Captain, everything is ready!” She finally snapped when Janeway began to pace in front of her. “The ship is about as ready as she’ll ever be at peak efficiency, there’s nothing else to do!”

Kathryn’s eyes blazed and she stepped into B’Elanna’s space. “I am the Captain, and I will tell you when you are done, is that clear, Lieutenant?”

B’Elanna swallowed as her gaze fell downward. She’d crossed a line. She nodded, “As crystal, Captain.”

Kathryn’s slender hand glided up B’Elanna’s throat, forcing her chin up so they could lock eyes, “You will look at me when you speak to me.”

“Aye, Captain,” B’Elanna said softly, staring into the blue eyes.

Kathryn smiled and her thumb came up to stroke across B’Elanna’s full lips. She unconsciously licked her own lips, wanting to taste what was beneath her thumb. She quickly made a decision and acted on it. Giving B’Elanna a shove backwards against the console, she launched herself at B’Elanna, her fingers reaching along her jaw before taking possession of her lips.

Feeling her back hit the console, B’Elanna whimpered low in her throat as she kissed Kathryn back, the sound of the console beeping underneath them. B’Elanna blindly reached to silence the console, before her hands gripped at the red and black uniform jacket of her Captain. She didn’t dare break the desperate, hungry kiss, enjoying the feeling of Kathryn’s mouth on her own.

Kathryn was immediately enraptured by the heat of B’Elanna’s mouth. She reached up to tangle her fingers in B’Elanna’s soft hair with a low moan, slipping her thigh between her Chief Engineer’s legs, pressing herself down on B’Elanna’s taut thigh muscles.

“Wait… Kathryn…” B’Elanna gasped, breaking the kiss. “Did you hear something?”

Kathryn froze and looked up to see her First Officer standing there, staring at them in shock, witnessing her engage in a heated make-out session with B’Elanna. “Chakotay…” she whispered.

B’Elanna followed Kathryn’s line of sight and sighed. She saw the guilt flit across her Captain’s face and didn’t question it when Kathryn went after a retreating Chakotay. She swore in Klingon and touched her lips, letting out a shaky breath, knowing she had crossed a line. They had set boundaries to keep their relationship under wraps until the timing felt right to go public. She sighed as she looked at her station, hoping the relationship between them wasn’t about to come crashing to an end, because she was falling fast for her Captain.

Kathryn called after her best friend and First Officer. The shocked look on his face had given her pause. B’Elanna and she had been carrying on a secret relationship for over two months now. They had been very careful, at least up until this moment when she let her heated desires get the best of her. Her fiery engineer had been just too much of a temptation late at night in the deserted second level of the engine room after an exhausting day. If she was less in love with B’Elanna she could keep her distance, but it didn’t help that they worked so well together, on and off duty.

Chakotay waited for Kathryn to follow him all the way out of Engineering, before turning to face her. Kathryn didn’t expect her First Officer to come to a dead stop, causing her to almost slam into him.

“I knew there was something going on between you two,” Chakotay said, a smirk on his face. “Tom is going to have to pay up.”

Kathryn looked appalled. “Pay up? On a bet?” She blushed crimson. Great, she thought, the crew are betting on my love life.

Chakotay nodded smugly, “Tom has been intent on trying to ‘woo’ B’Elanna, but he didn’t believe me that B’Elanna’s interest lay elsewhere, that she was already spoken for.”

“And you came to the conclusion it was me, how?” Kathryn asked, reclaiming her Captain’s posture, folding her arms across her chest.

“I saw how happy you were when you spent time with her, even if it was just lunch in the mess hall, the small looks you two would share,” he said before pausing. “I also could tell when B’Elanna stayed the night in your quarters.” He smirked to such a degree that Kathryn itched to wipe that smile from his face, but she was touched by his observations of her relationship with B’Elanna.

B’Elanna left her station on the upper level and headed down to Main Engineering, ignoring the curious looks from the few engineers that had seen the Captain chase after the First Officer. She walked out of the engine room and stopped abruptly, seeing the two officers standing there in the middle of the corridor in discussion. “Oh, this is awkward,” she mumbled, contemplating going back the way she had come.

Behind his Captain, Chakotay saw B’Elanna enter the corridor. He smiled deeply and squeezed Kathryn’s shoulder, continuing their conversation, “And on that note, I’ll leave the two of you to it.” He spoke to Kathryn but loudly enough for B’Elanna to hear his comments. With that, he turned and headed for the turbolift.

B’Elanna arched her brow a little and walked up to Kathryn, “What did that mean? Are you breaking up with me?” She asked, nervously.

Shocked, Kathryn gasped at B’Elanna, “No!” She shook her head in confusion, “Why would I do that, when you make me so happy?”

Smiling in relief, “You make me very happy too, Kathryn,” B’Elanna sighed. “I know we wanted to keep this a secret, but as you would say… the cat’s out of the bag.”

Kathyrn laughed, “Yes, especially now that Tom has just lost his bet on whether we are in a relationship.”

“Tom is involved in this?” B’Elanna asked. When she received a nod of confirmation, she grunted and rolled her eyes, “That P’takh, doesn't he have anything better to do?”

Kathryn laughed again and looped her arm through B’Elanna’s, “Come on, it’s time for us to go off-duty. Besides, I want you to get to work on a personal project to soundproof the Captain’s quarters.”

B’Elanna stared at her a moment at the request and then laughed, “Oh, I think that can be arranged, darling. You are kind of loud,” she said with a devious grin.
