“So,” Yasha said, “ What happened exactly…?”
The aasimar folded her arms and raised her brow. The halfling woman - Lady Kima - chuckled nervously as she tugged on the collar of her shirt.
“Well, you see,” she started - sweat beginning to form visibly on Kima’s brow, “It was completely out of my control - “
“ Kima,” the taller blonde wizard lady said warningly.
Kima shuffled nervously. “ Okay, okay - so maybe it was somewhat in my control,” she explained. “I uh…I may have decided to give it a little test-run,” Kima continued, “and took your sword to fight some skeletons in a really deep underground ancient tomb…and uh…well…”
Yasha glanced at Beau from the corner of her eye - the monk seemed simultaneously pissed and amused. Yasha couldn’t help but feel the same.
She was mostly pissed, though.
“And then, uhh…I tripped. And dropped your sword.”
“And… you couldn’t pick it back up?” Yasha inquired.
That drew another nervous chuckle from the halfling. “No, uh…when I dropped it, it maybe kinda fell over the edge I was near and into the bottomless pit…?”
Immediately Yasha’s palm found her face.
“ Really dude? ” Beau said beside her. “We took such good care of Holy Avenger for you. We traveled to another plane entirely to save the world, and brought it back to you in one piece. And you just…take her sword for a joy-ride and lose it?”
Yasha placed her hand on the monk’s shoulder. Beau let out a huff. The aasimar appreciated that Beau cared, but…well, there was really nothing to be done.
“We tried to make up for it though, didn’t we, Kima?”
“Yup! Yeah, uh…we bought you a new sword! A really cool, kickass magic sword! Uh, hang on, let me go get it…”
Kima abruptly turned and nearly fled the room. Allura stood there - in the middle of their living room, lavish and richly decorated - shaking her head.
“I cannot apologize enough for this,” the wizard said. “Kima gets… very excited about new weapons. Like a child with a new toy.”
Beau took a half-step forward. “Yeah, well - “
“It’s fine,” Yasha interrupted. “Don’t worry about it.”
The sound of hurried footsteps preceded the appearance of the halfling. Kima carried a large, long object bundled in cloth.
“And here we are!” Kima chirped. “Brand new sword. Even cooler than the one you had before!”
She held the bundle out, and Yasha accepted it. The aasimar flipped the cloth over, unwrapping the item to reveal a large, red cleaver-like blade.
“This is Scaldsaber,” Kima explained. “It flames up when you're fighting. Burns your enemies in addition to chopping them to bits.”
Completely removed from its wrappings, Yasha took it by the handle and gently swung it, careful to avoid accidentally striking any of the others, or any of Allura’s furniture. A flame erupted across the blade as she swung it.
“This is pretty cool,” Yasha admitted. “Thank you.”
“I’m glad you like it,” Allura said. “It was quite expensive, wasn’t it, Kima?”
“ Mmmm-hmm,” Kima hummed nervously.
With a sigh, Yasha passed the sword to Beau to hold while she unslung Holy Avenger from her back. “I suppose this is a suitable replacement,” she said. “Here’s your sword back.”
Kima took it happily, glancing up at Allura with a grin. The grin vanished when she found Allura’s glower, and Kima tried to put a solemn look back on her face.
“And what do we say, Kima?” Allura goaded.
“Thank you,” Kima replied.
“Thank you for…?”
“Thank you for returning my sword…”
“And…?”
Kima sighed. “And I’m sorry that I lost Magician’s Judge.”
Yasha glanced at Scaldsaber. “Apology accepted, I guess,” she said.
Scaldsaber was a pretty cool sword.
But she was going to miss Magician’s Judge.
