Work Text:

"Happy New Year!" Annie screamed in the background. Peter, however, wasn't exactly giving his daughter the most attention, being currently busy in a lip lock with M.J. "Eww, dad!"

"Don't worry, dear," M.J. reassured her daughter once her and Peter finally separated. "You'll understand one day. Anyway, you made it to midnight, so it's time for bed."

"No way!" Annie yelled excitedly, spinning around. "I'm going to stay up all night!"

Peter rubbed his eyes, beside himself; he was the adult who had superpowers to boot, yet his five-year-old had more energy than he currently did.

"I don't think so," Mary Jane replied. "Come on, say goodnight."

"Oookaaay," the girl moaned. After the family exchanged customary goodnight hugs and kisses, the girl darted up to her room.

"You think she's actually going to fall asleep?" Peter asked.

"I think so," his wife replied. "I used to be just like that too when I was her age; I tried to make it seem like I had all the energy in the world, but as soon as I got in bed, I always fell asleep instantly."

"I know the feeling," Peter said as he let out a yawn. "I feel like I could sleep for days."

"The streets really haven't been kind to you recently, have they?" M.J. questioned.

"Between that and working at the lab, plus a kid," Peter added. "You know, I think I just figured out what my New Year's Resolution will be."

"Oh, and what's that?" M.J. inquired.

"To start keeping a schedule," Peter declared, eliciting not-so-discreet chuckles from his wife. "What?"

"No offense, Tiger, but the sky will literally fall down on us before you're able to stick to a schedule."

"Okay, Ms. Glass-Half-Empty," Peter teased, laying his arm over her end of the couch. "What's your New Year's resolution?"

His wife simply shook her head.

"Nothing."

Peter tilted his head, eyeing her curiously.

"Seriously?"

M.J. nodded.

"As long as I have you and Annie, I won't need a new year to motivate me to do something," she said. "I have everything that I could ever need or want."

"Oh, come on," Peter moaned, "surely there's something. Maybe to try something new, or to go somewhere, or maybe..."

He was silenced by the pressing of her lips against his own.

"And maybe yours should be less talking when your exhausted," she said. "Come on Tiger, let's go to bed."
