Work Text:
Kishibe Rohan wasn’t fond of weddings. He could appreciate the extravagance that they represented and the careful planning that went into them, but he wasn’t a fan of the main aspect: love. It wasn’t that Rohan thought love wasn’t real, but that it wasn’t for him. Aside from generally having a dislike for most people, he just didn’t think love had much benefit and more often than not ended in heartbreak. Ironic that he currently worked as a live painter for weddings, capturing all important moments in paintings couples could treasure forever. Oh well, there wasn’t much time to dwell on that, he had a special wedding scheduled for today and wanted to arrive early.
Rohan entered the venue with all of his art supplies in tow. He took a second to admire the beautiful venue before making his way inside where his mentor and good friend Noriaki was getting ready for his big day. As he neared Noriaki’s groom suite, a door opened coming from what he assumed was Jotaro’s own groom suite. A man stepped out that Rohan wasn’t familiar with, but he was obviously a member of Jotaro’s family. His suit was perfectly tailored to his body and he had eyes that shone like bright sapphires. And his hair… was styled into a pompadour? Who the fuck still did their hair like that? Rohan must have been staring, because when he looked at the man’s face again he was smirking. Fuck. “Hey wh-“ the man started speaking but Rohan didn’t stick around for him to finish, instead doing a 180 and walking into the safety of Noriaki’s groom suite and slamming the door behind him.
“Oh hello Rohan.” Noriaki’s greets him from where Aya was putting the finishing touches on his makeup. Noriaki didn’t always wear makeup, but he looked striking when he did. “Hello Noriaki. I am so glad you took my advice to wear makeup for your ceremony. Jotaro’s gonna drop dead at the alter when he sees you.” Rohan tells him before dodging a playful smack from Noriaki.
“By the way, who’s the man in Jotaro’s wedding party with the god awful hair?” Rohan asked. ‘Who’s also built like a greek god and has the prettiest eyes I’ve ever seen.’ He thought to himself but didn’t dare say it out loud. “Oh Josuke? Weirdly enough that’s Jotaro’s uncle, although he’s only twenty-four. Why, did he catch your eye Roh?” Nori asked with a smug look. If Rohan didn’t have so much respect for the older man, he would’ve chewed him out for insinuating something so ridiculous. “Of course not! I ran into him on my way here. He looks like an idiot, not someone who deserves to even be in the presence of the great Kishibe Rohan!” he announced, but Noriaki’s face didn’t change and he clearly wasn’t convinced. “Whatever you say Roh, but just so you know he’s single and very gay.” Nori said before turning his attention to the vanity to check Aya’s magnificent work.
“Whatever, I have to finish getting set up for the ceremony.” Rohan dismissed before turning to grab his supplies. “Oh Rohan! I wanted to thank you again for being my wedding artist. You know I would’ve loved if you were in the wedding party.” Noriaki started speaking. “Nonsense, you are my mentor and my friend. You deserve only the best wedding paintings and I give you my word that I will do just that.” Rohan said before leaving the groom suite. Noriaki just rolled his eyes, knowing how his friend got when receiving genuine compliments. ‘Oh well, hopefully Josuke can help change that.’ Noriaki thought to himself before once again getting ready for his wedding.

Josuke shut the door of the second groom’s suite before sliding down it dramatically, “Jotaro I just met the man of my dreams.” Josuke said from his new seat on the floor. “Hm. Who?” Jotaro asked, not really paying attention as he buttoned up his shirt. “Oh I have no idea what his name was, but he was beautiful! Dark green hair and eyes an-“ “Rohan? You’re telling me the love of your life is Kishibe Rohan.” Jotaro interrupted the other man’s swooning. He knew his uncle always tried seeing the best in people, but he wasn’t sure they were…remotely compatible. “Rohan…” Josuke said in a dreamy voice. Jotaro just sighed, knowing it was already too late to change his uncles mind.
“Can you tell me about him? A man that gorgeous must have an amazing personality as well. Oh! I saw him with art supplies, he’s probably super talented like Nori!” Josuke rambled. “He is extremely talented, yes, but he’s also a stuck up asshole.” Jotaro explained. He really didn’t mind Rohan as they didn’t speak all that often, but he also didn’t want his uncle heartbroken after finding out Rohan’s personality wasn’t as soft and pretty as his appearance.
“Stuck up huh? I bet he won’t be after I take that stick out of his ass and replace it with m-“ “Don’t you need to finish getting ready Josuke?” Jotaro cut him off. He really didn’t need or want to listen to his uncles ‘plans’ with the artist. “Okay fine, but mark my words Jotaro I’ll have his heart by the end of the night.” Josuke declared before heading to the bathroom to make sure his pompadour was still perfect. “Good grief.” Jotaro muttered to himself. He supposed if anyone could get the stick out of Rohan’s ass, it would be Josuke. But Jotaro didn’t linger on the thought for too long, he still had to get ready to marry a certain redheaded artist.

As Rohan worked tirelessly to recreate paintings of the ceremony space, he took the time to admire it as well. The decorations were simple but elegant, he wouldn’t expect less from Noriaki. Speaking of Noriaki, he looked incredible as he made his way down the aisle to meet his soon to be husband. Jotaro was a man of few emotions, but every single guest could see the love in his eyes. And as much as he hated to admit it, Rohan silently wished he could experience that look from someone someday.
Unfortunately, Rohan’s focus was broken when he attempted to paint the wedding party. That stupidly hot bastard-Josuke was it?- seemed to forget he was a groomsman at a wedding and instead focused all of his attention on Rohan. As he continued to stare at the artist, he made sure to wink every time the two made eye contact. ‘This asshole is going to ruin these pictures! I can’t have him winking and distracting me so easily.’ Rohan thought to himself and pointedly ignored the warmth he felt on his cheeks.
Rohan looked up once again to make sure he got every detail of the ceremony perfect and made eye contact with Josuke once again. This time the man was smirking at him, like he had won some imaginary game the two were apparently playing. Rohan finally acknowledged the warm blush on his cheeks before trying and failing to make it disappear. Kishibe Rohan will NOT let anyone ruin his concentration, no matter how handsome they are!
The remainder of the ceremony went by smoothly, Josuke was satisfied with making Rohan blush, so he behaved for the rest of the nuptials. After the newly married Kakyoin-Kujos walked up the aisle hand in hand, the guests started making their way to a separate area where cocktail hour was being held. Rohan was packing up his supplies and was preparing to move to the reception area when he felt a tap on his shoulder. Rohan looked up to see Josuke standing there, although he wasn’t nearly as confident as he had been when he was distracting Rohan not too long ago.
“Hey.” Josuke started. “I’m Josuke, Jotaro’s uncle.” “Hm, that’s interesting.” Rohan replied before he resumed packing up his canvases. He wouldn’t let anyone distract him, no matter how good they looked in a suit. “Aren’t you gonna tell me your name?” Josuke continued, head tilted slightly and looking like a curious puppy. Rohan couldn’t help but be charmed by the slight gesture. It wouldn’t kill him to give the man his name he supposed. “My name is Kishibe Rohan.” Rohan told him, trying his best to continue looking only at his art supplies. ‘Man this guys not much for small talk I guess.’ Josuke thought to himself. But Josuke was never one to give up easily, so he decided to just go for it.
“You don’t have to paint anything at cocktail hour right? Would you maybe want to,uh, join me in the garden? I saw it earlier when I pulled in and it was beautiful.” Josuke offered. He really hoped the artist wouldn’t flat out reject him. There was a few moments of silence as Rohan contemplated the offer. Talking couldn’t hurt right? As long as he kept track of time so he wouldn’t miss the newly wedded couples first dance.
“Alright Josuke very well. Let me set up in the main hall so I’ll be ready for the first dance. Give me a few minutes.” Rohan said as he turned to make his way to the reception hall, leaving Josuke to process what happened. “Holy fuck that worked!!” Josuke whispered to himself excitedly when the artist was out of earshot. ‘Oku’s gonna flip when I tell him.’ he thought as he made a quick stop in the bathroom to make sure his pompadour was still perfect. Oh man, Josuke couldn’t believe he was getting a chance with the beautiful artist! He really really hoped that he didn’t fuck this up.

The two had lost track of time. Neither Josuke nor Rohan remember who initiated the kiss first. They also weren’t sure when the kissing had turned into a full makeout session on the garden bench, but they weren’t really questioning it. Rohan wished he wasn’t enjoying it as much as he did, he wanted to hate that he was making out with a man he barely knew but he couldn’t. He hadn’t felt the urge to be this close to someone in so long. But Josuke was like a magnet continuously pulling him in.
Josuke on the other hand felt like he was on top of the world. His gut had told him that Rohan was someone special, and Okuyasu had always told him to trust his gut. It was a surprise to him when Rohan actually agreed to meet him in the garden to talk. He was even more surprised when the two actually kept up a good banter. The artist was a bit sharp tongued, but he was also witty and took pride in his art. Josuke also liked that he could tell how much Rohan cared for Nori.
Unfortunately, the two seemed to be a little too involved with each other, because a loud cheer from inside interrupted their little rendezvous. Rohan’s eyes widened and he immediately pulled away from Josuke who tried to chase the other man’s lips. “FUCK, THE FIRST DANCE!” Rohan shouted before taking off and leaving Josuke on the bench. Rohan could hear footsteps from behind him as Josuke caught up to him while trying to apologize at the same time. “Fuck Roh I’m so sorry please don’t ha-“ “Not now Josuke!” Rohan interrupted. He would deal with him later but he NEEDED to make it in time for the first dance.
Rohan thanked whatever deity was listening that he had set up a majority of his art station earlier. He made his way into the reception hall as quietly as possible. Thankfully the cheer had been for the newlyweds as they walked out, and they were about to start the first dance right as he finished setting up his paints. He could hear Josuke right behind him, but he didn’t dare interrupt the artist as he worked.
While Nori and Jotaro shared their first dance and Rohan was busy capturing the moment, Josuke took in the romantic scene in front of him. He was glad that his uncle and Nori were able to finally marry after everything they had gone through together. Josuke always believed in soulmates and he firmly believed the two were meant to be. He himself hadn’t had much luck finding his soulmate, but as he turned his attention towards Rohan who was completely absorbed in his work, he had a very good feeling that he might have just met him. Hey what can he say, he’s a true romantic at heart!
The dance ended and it took a a little while longer before Rohan was satisfied with the painting. Josuke took a peek and was amazed at the work Rohan had painted. It wasn’t completely finished, Rohan still needed to work on more details, but it still managed to capture the beauty of the first dance and if it were up to Josuke, he’d hang it up in the fanciest art museum he could think of.
Josuke waited for Rohan to finish packing up before deciding it was safe to start talking to him again. “Hey Rohan… sorry again about almost making you late.” Josuke said as he rubbed at the back of his neck. “I should be mad at you, furious even.” Rohan said without looking up from his supplies. There was a moment of silence between them as Rohan continued to put away his things. The noise of the wedding crowd seemed eerily far away to Josuke. God, he knew he ruined his chances with the artist. He really just wanted to spend time with Rohan and now he ruined everyth- “But I’m not.” Rohan continued. “Wh-What? You’re not?” Josuke was being confused now. “Look Josuke, normally I would be seething. But… I think I like you.” He whispered the last part, not wanting anyone to overhear him being vulnerable.
He hadn’t thought of anyone romantically in years, but Josuke did something to him. They hadn’t known each other for more than a few hours, but Rohan opened up to him more in their short conversation than he had with anyone excluding Noriaki. He wasn’t sure how long the feeling would last and how it could very well be a lapse in his judgment, but for right now Josuke felt like someone special.
Josuke took a second to wrap his head around what Rohan was telling him before giving him a wide grin. “I like you too Roh! And you promise you’re not mad?” Josuke asked. “As long as this isn’t a repeat offense, then no I’m not mad at you. Now, would you like to come with me to congratulate the grooms?” Rohan offered his hand to the other man, who was more than eager to take it.

“Looks like I might have another wedding gig soon.” Noriaki told Jotaro. “Hm?” Jotaro asked. Nori pointed to Rohan and Josuke who were currently walking hand in hand as they made their way towards the happy couple. “I guess Josuke was right, he swore he’d be able to take the stick out of Rohan’s ass and replace it with his-“ “Jotaro!”
