Chapter 1: Prologue
Chapter Text
Prologue
James was pacing backwards and forwards outside of his room at Khan palace, wincing each time she screamed in pain and cursed him as she laboured to bring their child into the world, much to the amusement of Sirius, Remus and Regulus - who had made up with his brother during Sirius' fifth year, his fourth year at Hogwarts and had become close friends with Remus and James - were waiting outside the bedchamber with James, while James's father Fleamont, Lily's father Arthur, and James's uncles Charlus, Aziz and Jamal, along with James's cousins were waiting in the family room for news not wanting to crowd Lily. James's mother Farrah, Lily's mother Caitrin and James's aunts Amal and Mayra were helping Lily inside the room.
Finally, after several hours a baby's cry wrenched the air causing a ragged breath of relief to pass James' lips before he darted into the room. However, instead of a happy James to leave the hospital room arms full of his precious bundle an angry cry wrenched the air.
"REGULUS ARCTURUS BLACK!!" James screamed charging out of the room like a man possessed ignoring the calls of his wife and mother.
"What? What did I do?" Regulus asked his best friend, startled, looking to his other best friend and brother for help.
"Show me your wrist! Now!" James demanded, confusing Regulus and Sirius further, however, it was starting to dawn on Remus what was going on.
Confused, Regulus rolled up his left wrist showing the birthmark of a little fox, his soulmate mark, which was now darker - having turned from a faint pink to black - meaning that his soulmate had just been born, which also meant he would now start ageing normally once he meets her as he had been frozen at the age of seventeen.
"Oh no." Sirius whispered, but a grin stretched his lips as he watched James threaten his younger brother to within an inch of his life. Rolling his eyes as he realised his soulmate and boyfriend wasn't going to save his brother, Remus knew it was up to him as per usual.
"Prongs!" Remus called loudly over James' threats and Regulus' platitudes. "I think Regulus has got it now so how about you bring out my Goddaughter so I can hold her."
"Your Goddaughter? I think you mean my Goddaughter, Moony love." Sirius argued.
"You can all come in!" Lily called tiredly, from within the room. This seemed to stop James from carrying on with his threats as he turned tail and ran as fast as he had exited into the room causing his friends to laugh and roll their eyes fondly at him. Entering the room they couldn't help but smile as they watched the doting father smiling and cooing to the baby wrapped in purple blankets, and a tired Lily smiling happily at her husband and child before turning to her friends with a welcoming smile.
"I won't threaten you Regulus as I know James pretty much covered everything but when she's older, you hurt my precious Princess and I'll end you!" Lily promised sweetly, which Regulus admitted to himself was far scarier than James's threats.
"Understood." Regulus nodded. "What is her soulmate mark of?" He asked curiously.
"It's in the shape of the star you're named after on her inner right wrist." Farrah informed him, from the corner of the room where she stood tidying everything up with Lily's mother and two of her sister-in-laws, while Amal spoke to her house-elf, Tily asking her to inform the rest of the family.
"What's my Goddaughter's name then? And can you please tell Moony I am the first Godfather?" Sirius begged, much to the amusement of the others.
"I'd like to introduce you to my Princess: Khalida Eilonwy Jamie Potter." James informed them beaming happily and not once looking away from his precious daughter as the other three crowded around him. "Khalida means eternal life and is linked to our Peverell death Magic. Eilonwy means river melody or gorgeous Princess which fits. We wanted to show off and make her proud of her heritage." James smirked.
"Both you and Remus are Godfathers, Sirius." Lily informed them, rolling her eyes fondly at her husband. "Stop torturing them James." She reprimanded, her Welsh accent thick. But it seemed like he didn't hear her as he was besotted with his daughter which brought a tired but loving smile to Lily's lips.
***
As Khalida grew it became increasingly obvious to her family that something was up with her despite being a happy child and her young age. For not only did she become obsessive over certain things, for example: she didn't respond to her name and avoided eye contact, she didn't talk as much as her cousins from James's side of the family, repeated the same phrases ('Pa'foo' and 'Dada'), and she got very upset if she did not like a certain taste, smell or sounds. Lily's father Arthur had brought up that she may have Autism as his brother has it, and assured the rest of the family that there was nothing wrong and explained things they could do to make things easier on Khalida.
That wasn't the only thing, however, they noticed she would lose mobility and movement within her joints and limbs, such as back, legs and arms; and it often caused her to lash out due to the helplessness, and they also noticed she forgot things sometimes. Being a nurse in a Muggle Hospital in Wales, Caitrin, spoke to several of her colleagues and researched on ways she could make life easier for her precious granddaughter (the only grandchild she got to see as Petunia never let her see Dudley all because she and Arthur were in contact with Lily). After a lot of research and observation, Caitrin discovered that the symptoms Khalida was showing related to something called Friedreich Ataxia, and taught Farrah and Dorea who were Healers how best to help their granddaughter: great-niece as this was something the Wizarding community had never dealt with.
"Don't worry son, I'll get to work on creating a potion to help Kali with this Friedreich Ataxia, even if it was just a stronger pain reliever and muscle relaxer." Monty assured his son, clasping his shoulder firmly with a comforting squeeze before leaving for his potion lab in the basement of Potter Manor.
"Dada play." Khalida asked, smiling a cute gummy smile, a dimple forming on her left cheek.
"Of course baby." James agreed, smiling at his adorable daughter as he slipped down onto the floor in front of her.

August 31st 1991
After Samhain 1980 when Lily and James were killed, Dumbledore and Crouch Sr immediately blamed Sirius and were all for chucking Sirius in Azkaban without a trial, and would have succeeded if Farrah, Fleamont, Charlus, Dorea and Regulus hadn't supplied memories on the contrary and left hints with the other Wizengamot members that if they could throw a Lord of an Ancient and Noble House into Azkaban without a trial what's to stop them from doing it to anyone else. Thankfully, those hints spurred everyone into action and an emergency Wizengamot meeting was held where Sirius was tried under both Veritas Serum and the watchful gaze of the entire Wizengamot and Head Auror Amelia Bones.
As soon as the trail culminated, Aurors were sent off to search for Peter Pettigrew and the Wizarding Community were put on alert for his Animagus form in which he had escaped the scene he in fact had caused and not Sirius via an emergency edition of the Daily Prophet. Relief surging through the Potter-Black family they ignored all questions thrown at them via the media and used the Floo Network to return to Potter Manor where Remus, Khalida, Caitrin and Arthur were waiting for them. The elderly Evans, along with the three Blacks (Remus was now married to Sirius and had hyphenated his name) had moved into Potter Manor wanting to be close after the tragedy that had struck them.
~
"Grandpa." Khalida repeated anxiously, with a sigh she'd called Fleamont's hands multiple times as she twisted her hands anxiously.
"Sorry my little Jamie." Fleamont apologised, shaking his head to rid him of the maudlin thoughts of the hell Dumbledore had put them through. A year after James and Lily had been killed Fleamont publicly claimed House Dumbledore, particularly Albus, as an enemy of House Potter (Sirius and Aziz following his lead) as the foolish Headmaster not only kept trying to interfere with his seats on the Wizengamot, he also interfered with the hunt for Pettigrew (Jamal thought someone was hiding the rat and Fleamont happened to agree with his brother-in-law), but he also didn't stop badgering them to place his little Princess with her Muggle aunt who despised magic.
"I was lost in thought. What's the matter?" He asked, kissing her forehead tenderly as he pulled her to sit on his knee much like he did when she was younger and had meltdowns as being held safely and securely seemed to calm her down.
"Will you and Uncles Charlus, Siri and Moony be mad if I'm not a Gryffindor? Will Mum and Dad? What about Auntie Dorea, will she be mad if I'm not a Slytherin? I know Grandma Farrah didn't go to Hogwarts, as you met her when you went to Egypt.
But will she be mad too?" Khalida asked anxiously, twisting her fingers together until her Grandfather covered them with his own and turned her face towards him gently with her chin.
"Of course we won't be, sweetheart, we will be proud of you no matter what House you enter and they will be lucky to have such a smart, kind and beautiful young lady. We all love you unconditionally as did your parents." Fleamont assured her, hugging her close and kissing her temple lovingly.

September 1st 1991: nighttime.
Dear Grandma Farrah, Grandma Caitrin, Grandpa Monty, Grandpa Arthur, Auntie Dorea, and Uncles Charlus, Siri, Moony, and Regulus
I was sorted into Ravenclaw! As both Grandmas, Auntie Dorea, Reggie and Uncle Moony said, Grandpas, Uncles Charlus and Siri pay up!
I miss you all so much and counting down the days until Yule. Professor Flitwick is very kind and has given me a pass to use if I get overwhelmed in lessons or the pain gets too much, (the potions are helping Grandpa Monty don't worry), I made a few friends on the train and the common room is amazing we even have our own library in there!
But Dumbledore keeps looking at me weird and he said something weird before the Sorting, 'the third corridor on the right hand side is out of bounds for those of you who don't wish to die a most painful death'.
Who does that? I didn't feel safe after he said that and nearly had a meltdown, but one of my friends I made, Neville Longbottom - he was sorted into Hufflepuff - helped calm me down.
I love you all and miss you,
Love
Khalida xxx
"What the hell!!!" Farrah, Dorea, and Caitrin exploded after Monty finished reading the letter.
"Something needs to be done about that old fool!" Regulus exclaimed worriedly, fear and concern shrouded his mind for his young soulmate whom he felt only friendship for at this time. Other feelings would not develop until she was of age.
"I'll call for an emergency Wizengamot meeting." Sirius declared, a growl within his voice as he worried about his pup.
"It wasn't like that when Lily was there!" Arthur fretted, his Welsh accent thick with his anger.
"No it wasn't. Seems he hasn't learned from us declaring him our enemy, well he will soon learn you don't mess with the Potters not the Blacks. Sirius, you and I both need to speak to allies as Lord of our Houses. Brother, Dorea, you both go let the rest of the Black family know what's happened, while Regulus, Remus, the both of you go with Mia and start an investigation with the Board of Governors." Monty ordered, his mind turning over with ideas on how to protect his granddaughter and Heiress.
"It's high time he was removed from Hogwarts and away from our precious jewel." Caitrin added.
"Agreed. I'll speak to my brother as head of our family in Egypt as Khan, myself and Khalida are fully under his protection as Princesses and no one in their right mind would go against him. Although, the old fool has never been in his right mind." Farrah said, sneering at the thought of the aged headmaster.
"Putting that aside, I am very proud of my niece. The first Potter and Khan to go into Ravenclaw!" Dorea added, beaming ecstatic and incredibly proud of her great-niece, she knew all about the Khan family as not only was Farrah her best friend, the Khans and the rest of her family - the Blacks were all untied and incredibly close all because of Khalida no matter that they were close and lived with her Squib Grandparents. She knew the rest were incredibly proud of Khalida, if the grand, beaming smiles were anything to go by.
Chapter 2: Chapter One, Yule Ball
Chapter Text
Chapter One, Yule Ball
Khalida was pissed at the Ministry but in particular one Bartemius Crouch Sr. Not only had he caused so much strife with her family thirteen years ago when he tried to lock up her Godfather, Lord Sirius Orion Black, without so much as a trial, now he had point blank stated Regulus - her soulmate - couldn't be her date to the Yule Ball. When her friends had found out they had all banded together to make them pay. Not many realised this, or refused to realise it, but Khali had many friends in all of the Houses.
She didn't care for the so-called stigma on them, the girls and the guys who she'd met on the train had gone on to be her lifelong friends no matter they were Slytherins and she a Ravenclaw, not to mention she was best friends with her God-brother, Neville Frank Longbottom, a Hufflepuff and best friends with the twin terrors of Gryffindor otherwise known as Fred and George Weasley who were coincidentally her double date.
When she'd told them, Neville, and the girls, (Luna, a fellow Raven who she'd taken under her wing and refused to let people bully her, Heiresses Daphne and Astoria Greengrass, Heiress Pansy Parkinson, Heiress Millicent Bulstrode, Heiress Tracey Davies,) and the three guys from Slytherin (Heir Draco Malfoy, Heir Blaise Zabini and Heir Theodore 'Theo' Nott), they had hit the roof and the twins had come up with the most epic prank and a definite "fuck you" to Crouch and the Ministry by BOTH of them asking to be her dates to the Yule Ball; which she had immediately accepted. Her Uncles Sirius and Charlus along with both her grandpas had found that exceedingly hilarious. While her Aunt Dorea, Uncle Remus and her grandmothers offered her advice on how to run it even further.
Which led to now. Dobby her new personal House-elf (she'd accepted him after freeing him from blondie's abusive clutches in her Second Year, which made it easier for her to get the new potions Grandpa Monty made for her to help with her condition) had found the perfect place where all the girls could get ready together; the Room of Requirement, while Fred, George, Neville, Draco, Blaise and Theo had to wait for them in the Entrance Hall. Most would think that Pansy was obsessed with Draco but that couldn't be further from the truth, she was actually dating Millicent (Millie to her close friends) who was also her soulmate. Luna was Neville's date; Tracey was Theo's; Astoria (who was Luna's younger cousin via her mother and Daphne's younger sister) was together with Blaise; and Draco and Daphne were together.
This little friendship bubble offered a shield between the Wixen ton at large and Khalida who often found them to be too much and had had a few meltdowns due to sensory overload (curse of being Autistic and having Anxiety) and sometimes lashed out due to the forgetfulness and pain she suffered due to the Friedreich Ataxia. Thankfully her friends never took any of this to heart as they knew Khalida never meant the things she said during those moments.
However, outside of this little bubble she may be friendly with a few other students (Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley) to name a few but sometimes their bossy (Hermione) and abrasive (Ronald) behaviour could be too much for her at times which they didn't seem to understand and had caused her magic to lash out on those occasions sensing she was feeling threatened; thankfully Professor Flitwick her Head of House hadn't punished her but instead made Hermione and Ronald read up on Autism and Anxiety to better understand Khalida and where they had gone wrong in their approach.
"-lida!"
"-alida!"
"Khalida!"
"KHALI!" Pansy shouted, pulling her best friend from her pain and troubled filled thoughts, potion in hand to help with her friend's pain that Dobby had just dropped off.
"Oh! Sorry Pansy." Khalida apologised abashed, accepting the potion with a muttered thanks before downing it in one go with hardly a grimace in sight. Her grandfather wasn't the best and most renowned Potion Master in their history for nothing (something Snape hated, as he was the second youngest only a year older than her grandfather had been to achieve the Mastery and that was with becoming the most renowned Dueller at the same time).
"Do you feel better?" Luna asked, setting Khalida's dress behind the turquoise screen, and setting the accessories out for her on the turquoise dressing table the room had provided for them. For each of the girls there was a dressing table and changing screen in an arc around the room, each item of furniture was of a particular colour pertaining to one of them which also hinted at their dresses. For example: Khali had a turquoise table and screen; Luna had a pale purple screen and table with floral designs on the screen; Pansy had a pale blue table and screen; Daphne a black table and screen but the screen held golden patterns on it; Tracey had a pale green one; Astoria a golden one; and Millie had a deep navy one with silver patterns on it.
"I do. Thank you Luna." Khalida smiled happily at her friends as the pain started to ebb away causing the girls to let out a sigh of relief. They hated to see Khalida in such pain.
"Well then," Astoria said, clapping her hands excitedly. "Let's get ready." For the next few hours the girls helped each other with their hair and makeup and did up the back of their dresses with their magic until they were waiting on Khalida, but they didn't have to wait too long as a moment after Pansy had exit from behind her screen dressed in a powder-blue v-neck dress, aquamarine jewellery, silver glitter court heels, royal blue and nude jewelled nails, powder blue shimmery eyeshadow and dark wine lipstick, and her hair in a classic side chignon; Khalida appeared stunning the girls.
Khalida wore a leaf print light turquoise Saree, with turquoise nails, henna on her hands and sapphire jewellery, white sandal heels, natural golden eyeshadow that made her emerald eyes pop, red lipstick, and her hair was in a curled Princess ponytail style held with a a leap clip. As Fred and George were her dates they both had a suit that complimented her perfectly. Fred would be wearing a suit of hawthorn rose as the base colour with fruit dove pinstripe suit, spring green coloured tie and chocolate coloured shoes. George would be wearing a suit of the same colour as his brother but he would have a taupe tie and olive coloured shoes.
"Wow Khali! You look amazing." Tracey whispered stunned at her friend's appearance.
"Thank you Tracey." Khalida beamed with a light blush dusting her cheeks. "You all look amazing too." She added sincerely, looking around at her friends, and they truly did.
Luna wore a pale purple floral dress in an off-the-shoulder design, a star necklace gracing her neck and amethyst earrings shining through her blonde curls. Her light blonde hair was curled into a curly Princess ponytail with Pearl clips. Her nails had been painted purple and white and paired with purple smokey eye eyeshadow and rose lipstick, and finally her dress had been paired with burgundy court heels. Neville as Luna's date would be wearing a deep purple suit with a white shirt, black tie and black shoes.
Tracey wore a beautiful green sequined V-neck dress paired with black heels and diamond jewellery. Her hair was styled up into an elegant braided chignon and her makeup was done to perfection with olive eyeshadow, dark nude lipstick and nude and olive nails. Theo would be wearing a white suit with a baby blue shirt, black tie and chocolate brown shoes which would complement the green of Tracey's dress.
Millicent as Pansy's date complimented her dress to perfection. Millie wore a navy V-neck sequined dress paired with sapphire flower jewellery and black court heels that had a red sole. Her jet black locks were styled into an elegant classic chignon with strands to frame her face, and her look was completed with henna on her hands in a different design to Khalida, navy and beige nails, shimmery navy eyeshadow and nude lipstick.
Daphne wore a black lace off-the-shoulder dress paired with gold earrings and black sandal heels. Her blonde locks were in a curly and braided half-up and half down style, and to finish off her look she had rose lipstick and golden eyeshadow, and she had painted her nails black and gold. As her date, Draco would be wearing a silver suit with a black shirt, a silver tie and black shoes.
Finally, Astoria wore a jewelled, champagne two-tone dress that faded into white which was in a sweetheart style and was paired with gold platform sandal heels and diamond jewellery in a flower shape. Her dark brown hair was in a classic chignon with a jewelled leaf clip, and her makeup was done to perfection with natural makeup, wine lipstick and champagne and silver nails. As for Blaise, he paired with the young Greengrass Heiress perfectly as he would be wearing a navy suit with a white shirt, a silver and lavender floral tie and brown shoes.
"Well I think we're all gorgeous and our lucky men or lady in Millie and Pansy's case are lucky to have us, even if it's just for a night like the Weasley twins and Khali." Daphne smirked. "That said the Ministry will learn you don't mess with a soulmate bond without repercussions."
"I couldn't have said it better myself, sister." Astoria smirked, linking arms with Khali on the left and Luna on the right.
"Let's go then." Millicent said with a wicked gleam in her eyes, but she also wanted to forget about the Alchemy homework that was due after the Yule holidays. Knowing exactly what was on their friends/partner's mind, all of the girls giggled as they made the long journey down to the Entrance Hall from the seventh floor; thankfully taking many of the shortcuts that Khali knew of due to the map her father and his friends made.
Since Mcgonagall had taken over as Headmistress of Hogwarts thirteen years ago a massive change had been brought to the school bringing it to its former glory; lessons and holidays that Dumbledore had gotten ridden of were brought back along with some classes to help the Muggle-raised students; such as, Wizarding Culture and Traditions, and an Introduction to Alchemy (taught by Charlus Potter) for first years and in second year they go on to learn the basics of Wizarding Law and Magical Languages.
While Wizard-raised students have to take Muggle Studies which will enable them to better blend in the Muggle world which will ultimately avoid detection. More teachers had been brought in to support the students and the staff, and she had gotten rid of Divination as it wasn't something that could be taught unless you had the Gift of Foresight; those that did had special tutors help them with their gift once a fortnight.
In their third year they had the selection of Care of Magical Creatures, Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Spell Crafting and Healing. A Duelling Club was run as an extracurricular activity for second years through to seventh, and it was actually taught by Khalida's grandfather. They had heard that come their sixth year there would be even more electives to choose from: Warding, Forbidden Arts, Ancient Magicks, Wandlore, Wandless Magic and Curse Breaking. In her third year, Khalida had chosen all of the electives which didn't surprise her friends, family or teachers at all as Khali had a thirst for learning and was always after learning new spells to use in her Duelling that was on par with her grandfather.
***
Down in the Entrance Hall everyone was either making their way into the Great Hall being shepherded by their Deputy Headmistress Professor Sinistra to stand in a line to form an aisle for the Champions, waiting upon their dates to arrive, or it was the Champions stood in a line to the side of the Great Hall doors either with their dates or waiting for them. At the foot of the Grand Staircase stood a group of unlikely boys waiting for their dates. At first glance you wouldn't expect these boys to be stood near each other or even talking like old friends much less amicably as there were two Gryffindors, a Hufflepuff and three Slytherins in that group but the old House competition and grudge didn't seem to affect them as they had been brought together by one particular witch; Heiress Khalida Eilonwy Jamie Potter.
"Where are they?" Theo grumbled, a tone of anxiety to his would be casual voice just as Hermione Granger came down the stairs in a pink floaty dress joining Durmstrang Champion Viktor Krum at the door of the stairs.
"You know Pansy and Daphne," Blaise commented unconcerned. "They like to make a grand entrance." And it seemed that Blaise's proclamation was correct as not a moment too soon Pansy and Millie appeared at the top of the stairs, an air of elegance about them as they appeared to glide down the stairs, hands intertwined not caring about the glances cast their way. Next to follow is Tracey with Daphne and Astoria close behind her, with Luna in between her two cousins. One by one the boys greeted their dates murmuring words of wonder and amazement as they took in their dates' beauty.
Once Luna had unlinked her arms with her cousins and was greeted by Neville, the sky but courageous Hufflepuff, the girls turned as one to the stairs signalling to the boys of Khalida's impending entrance. Gasps rang around the Entrance Hall from Hogwarts, Beauxbâtons and Durmstrang students alike at Khali's ethereal beauty. And if Fred and George didn't see her as a little sister they could safely say with one hundred percent certainty that they would have fallen in love with her at that moment. A nervous smile adorned her lips, her anxiety rising due to all the eyes upon her, but she locked eyes with her twin older brothers who offered her mouthed words of encouragement and blinding smiles.
"Hello Chaos and Mayhem." Khalida smirked, smiling as Fred and George each brought her into a tight hug and kissed her forehead in a brotherly way.
"Hello Mischief." Fred and George greeted. "You look amazing, dear sister. Poor Regulus will Siriusly regret not being able to come." They said together, holding their arms out for her just as Professor Sinistra came over to them
"Ahh Miss Potter, you're here. Good." Professor Sinistra stated happily. "Now, the rest of you make your way into the Great Hall." She ordered, turning towards Pansy and the others before turning back towards Khalida, Fred and George. "Miss Potter, if you and your two dates can join the line with the rest of the Champions." At their confused expressions she smiled mischievously at them.
"It's wrong what Crouch has done and continues to do to your family Miss Potter, and is in fact against the law to separate Soulmates. So why not give them hell." She whispered conspiratorially.
"I knew there was a reason you and Minnie were our favourite teachers, Rory." Khalida, Fred and George said simultaneously, mischievous smirks upon their faces as they looked forward to a night of chaos, mischief and mayhem.
Chapter 3: Chapter Two, The Second Task
Chapter Text
Chapter Two, The Second Task
After the first Task and the battle against the dragon where Khalida had used Parseltongue to spoke calmly to the Mother Dragon to receive the Golden Egg (she hadn't received very high points from the other Heads and Ministry members but she didn't care she was in it to survive not to get the highest points), she had deduced very quickly the riddle within, and with Luna's help - due to their shared love of Creatures - they had figured out it was to be held within the Black Lake. This revelation had caused Khalida to have a panic attack and a meltdown in the confines of an alcove in the library causing Madam Pince to send for her Grandfather and Great-Uncle to help calm her.
In the months leading up to the Tournament after the Yule Ball, Khalida had needed the help of her brilliant friends just to get through the day, such was the height of her anxiety she was reduced to panic attacks all over the school and if it hadn't of been for privacy spells and her Grandfather training her and her friends in the Duelling Chamber in the dungeons, she knew she would've been a laughing stock and much worse if hadn't of been for this new stricture provided by her beloved Grandpa Monty. That said, the day of the Second Task of the Triwizard Tournament had arrived bringing with it a rise in Khalida's anxiety that she was reduced to a meltdown that very morning when she realised at breakfast that Fred had been her 'treasure' that had been taken, and run from the Great Hall.
"Freddie will be fine, Kali, you know why?" George asked, as he crouched in front of her in an alcove in the Entrance Hall.
"N-no." Khalida gasped, tears pouring down her cheeks like waterfalls.
"It's because you are going to kick ass and show these poncey wizards and witches what a strong, resilient, beautiful, powerful and incredibly smart witch you are." Pansy declared.
"Your Grandfather has given us all Duelling practice and I bet we know more spells than those of seventh year now." Millicent added.
"Plus, I've nicked some Gillyweed from the store cupboard that'll last much longer than any spells while in the lake as it won't drain your magic." Neville smirked, the sweet Hufflepuff had come way out of his shell since the first ride to Hogwarts, his hand outstretched with slimy-looking, grey-green weed curled up on his palm.
"You won't die in this task or the next one, Little Fox, even if we train from tomorrow until June, we will." Luna assured her first friend.
"Now, why don't we dry these tears and show them why YOU are the most powerful and most brightest witch of our age, not Granger." Tracey implored.
"Besides, we didn't dress up in Raven blue for nothing you know." Daphne and Astoria chided playfully, sending a wink at their friend who laughed and dried the tears from her cheeks.
"Thank you." Khalida told them emotionally, putting how grateful she was for all of them in those two words.
"You're welcome. Now, drink this. I know you're in pain." George said firmly, holding out the high dosage of pain potion her Grandfather makes.
"Now, let's get to the lake. I know there are some who wish to see you before the start of the task." Luna said mysteriously, almost dancing to her feet as she held a hand out for her friend.
* * *
Those that had wanted to see her before she entered the Black Lake, and were waiting for her on the towers that had been erected in the middle of the lake, turned out to be her Grandmothers Farrah and Caitrin, Grandpa Arthur, Uncle Padfoot, Uncle Moony, Uncle Aziz and his wife Aunt Mayra, Auntie Dorea, and finally Regulus. Almost at once a wide smile overtook her face as she ran towards them the moment Draco had helped her out of the boat, who like George, Neville, Blaise, Theo and the girls, was decked out in a Ravenclaw hat and scarf and a Raven painted on his cheek.
A squeal escaping her lips she stumbled into the safety and warmth Uncle Padfoot's arms held. However, when she had pulled back from the hug from Regulus, she noticed Headmistress McGonagall wink, causing Khalida to beam at Headmistress for allowing her family to come to Hogwarts once more. As McGonagall spoke to the spectators, Professor Flitwick was going around all of the Champions casting Screening Charms upon them which would activate once they hit the water and would allow them to watch what happens in the Black Lake while Khalida rapidly chewed at the Gillyweed trying to force it down before Filch set off the canon early like he did in the previous task.
"GOOD LUCK KALI!!!"
"GOOD LUCK LITTLE FOX!!"
"GOOD LUCK MY LITTLE JAMIE!!"
Khalida's family and friends roared above the raucous din of the other spectators, giving her the courage to strip out of her trainers and blue and black tracksuit emblazoned with the Ravenclaw emblem (that had been designed for the tasks) revealing a green and black swimsuit: which was made from dazzling multi-tonal zebra sequin fabric, and multi-way cross over tie strapping so you can choose how you style it. Finally as the cannon sounded from a separate tower so it was away from everyone for their safety, Khalida had finally swallowed the vile thing causing her to cough and gag and Mad-Eye Moody to thump her on the back which did nothing but cause pain to blaze from that spot on her back before he pushed her into the lake flailing around as her body morphed and adapted to the use of the Gillyweed.
* * *
On the surface the spectators watched the four screens with tenterhooks worried for their chosen Champions and could do nothing but watch as a quarter into the hour allotted, the Grindylows attacked the Beauxbâtons champion; however, when she failed to get free the D.A.D.A Professor the one who taught years four - seven: Professor Jordan Copper and Healing Professor: Madam Iris Torres, both dives into the lake to free the quarter Veela from the water demons clutches and take her to the surface. Unfortunately this rendered her disqualified from the Task and her 'treasure' which was her nine year old disorder to be fetched from the lake by the Professors once Fleur was safe.
"Come on Kali." Theo muttered nervously, chewing on the back of his thumb, his eyes never leaving the floating screen which depicted Khalida swimming into the Merpeople village where the now three hostages were undergoing a Sleeping spell and tied to a statue. They watched as her eyes assessed her surroundings before she unsheathed her wand from her ankle holster and silently cast a cutting charm to sever the rope around Fred’s ankle.
“YES!!” Her friends cheered excitedly as she was the first person to make it to the village and free her treasure. But time was quickly running out and with it the effects of the Gillyweed, and their cries of excitement soon turned to despair upon seeing the gills on either side of her neck, and webbed hands and feet disappeared.
But Khalida had not been raised a quitter. Despite quickly running out of air and the surface seemed to be getting further away not closer, she still tried to drag herself and a slumbering Fred towards the surface by sheer will and determination that the Potters were known for.
“Do something!” Aziz shouted at the Professors and Barty Crouch, cursing in his mother language when no body moved but stared transfixed at the sight their eyes turned to him briefly before they returned to the screens that held the three remaining champions: Cedric Diggory, a Hufflepuff a year ahead of Fred and George, Khalida - a Ravenclaw fourth year, and Viktor Krum a seventh year Durmstrang champion.
“Elle va se noyer !” Fleur exclaimed in French worriedly, before a scream tumbled from her lips as out of nowhere the little water demons that had attacked her grabbed onto Khalida’s ankle pulling her down. She had always liked the Ravenclaw and didn’t treat her differently like the other girls of Hogwarts did. The more Khalida tried to kick the creature off the further down she went especially as they heard an audible - despite the water - crack from the left ankle that the Grindylow was holding tightly onto. A silent scream wrenched Khalida’s mouth causing it to fill with water, but that wasn’t her only worry as more Grindlows darted out of the kelp and reeds attacked her. Taking her chance she pushed Fred up to the surface, using her wand to further the distance and sacrifice herself.
“NO!!!” were the screams that Cedric and Cho Chang were greeted to the moment their heads broke the surface. For a moment they were offended until they spotted the screen showing Khalida being attacked and Cedric’s countenance changed becoming concerned for the outspoken, but sweet Raven who was a staunch feminist; while Cho’s scowl deepened as they didn’t get the attention they so deserved for arriving back first.
“Oh shut up you immature little girl!” Mayra scoffed at Cho, who had cussed her little niece and her niece’s Moon a lot of hassle with her bullying of them.
“I’m going in!” Sirius and Regulus declared worry and determination fighting for dominance within them as Fred’s head broke the surface at the same time and that Viktor returned with Hermione just outside of the hour time slot. Sirius didn’t even have the heart to glare at his brother protectively over his pup, too worried for her.
“You will not interfere!” Barty Crouch denied them, standing in their path so they couldn’t dive off of the platform and into the lake to rescue their Goddaughter (Sirius) and Soulmate (Regulus), just as Khalida used her wand to stun the pod of Grindylows attacking her, however, her lungs had filled with water and she started to sink to the bottom her eyes drifting open and shut very slowly as she tried to stay awake.
“WELL DO SOMETHING THEN!!!!” Sirius roared, getting in the man’s face. “You have been a thorn in our family’s side for thirteen years Crouch and still you meddle not allowing my Goddaughter to be with her Soulmate to the Yule Ball - even if it’s my brother - and now you stop us from rescuing her as she’s drowning!! Well screw you! Make the most of your day as a Ministry employee, as I can promise you this will be your last!”
“Are you threatening me!!” Bartimus Crouch roared, moustache quivering.
“No. It’s a promise!” Fleamont and Aziz stated firmly, dark glares upon their faces.
“Look!” Fred shouted, pointing to the remaining screen.
“Ascendio!!” Khalida croaked, wand pointed into the air before she shot out of the lake like a rocket landing hard onto the decking of the tower at Sirius and Regulus’ feet coughing and spewing up water that had been in her lungs as Fred wrapped her in the towel he’d been enveloped in.
“Pup!” Sirius exclaimed worry and relief now replacing the anger, fear and adrenaline he had just been experiencing. “Minnie!! Iris!!” Sirius shouted.
“Accio towels!!” Regulus muttered, grabbing all the towels that flew into his arms, quickly wrapping them around his soulmate who was held close to his brother’s chest as he helped cough up water while trying to raise her body temperature. Why they held the task in the lake in the middle of winter he’d never know.
“It’s okay, love you’re safe now. You’re safe. We’re proud of you but never EVER scare us like that again!” Regulus admonished wrapping the last towel around her with a kiss to the forehead. While Khalida was being checked over by Madam Iris Torres, her friends shared a worried look as they knew this was only the beginning.

Chapter Text
Chapter Three, Familial Ties
The day after the Second Task an article came out in the Daily Prophet announcing that Khalida and Regulus were soulmates - without her, Regulus or her family's consent- along with the announcement that Crouch Sr had been murdered within Hogwarts grounds just mere hours after Sirius and Regulus had announced their threats - promises according to them - for all to read. The reporter of such an article was none other than Rita Skeeter, a vicious vulture-like reporter who was like a dog with a bone and had it out for the Potters after Monty had denied her from getting an interview at the start of the Tournament from Khalida.
Immediately Headmistress Minerva McGonagall gave her memories of the Second Task along with many other Professors and students to Madam Bones, ceasing all allegations towards Sirius and Regulus, expunging their record of anything to do with Crouch's murder. However, that didn't stop Monty, Sirius and Aziz from suing the Ministry, Skeeter and the Daily Prophet; especially when Minerva found out how she'd gotten that information for the article: she was an illegal and unregistered Animagus.
As the Potters had controlling shares within the Daily Prophet their lawsuit was applied to both Skeeter and the Editor in Chief Thomas Brown, meaning Monty was well within his rights to sack the pair of them for slandering an Heir and Heiress of Most Ancient and Noble Houses, a Lord of a Most Ancient and Noble House, as well as the Heiress being underage. While all this was happening in London as her family reshaped the Wizarding World, making it better for everyone, Khalida was lost in thought after completing her homework; remembering the time when she was five years old and Regulus was teaching her Seeker moves only to get the shock of his life.
~ Flashback: January 5th 1985 ~
Snow covered the immense grounds of Castle Black. Most within the castle were sound asleep recovering from the Yule Celebrations that Arcturus and Melania Black had held, except two who were bundled up against the cold and bitterly winds: Heir Regulus Black and, within his arms held tenderly, was five year old Heiress Khalida Potter who was drowsy from the Pain Potion her grandfather made to help with the pain but still she was unable to rest.
Wishing to aid his young friend, his young soulmate, Regulus had bundled them up in thick winter coats, hats, scarves and gloves over their pyjamas before they set off across the grounds that looked picturesque in the snow with the waning moon above them, heading for the Grimm Creature Sanctorum where all the creatures unable to cope with the cold British climate and the rescued creatures resided safe, behind the thick and impenetrable wards surrounding the vast grounds that was also shielded by a dense forest to the north and west. He knew how much Kali loved creatures and knew this would take her mind off of her pain while the potion did it's work.
"Where are we going, Reggie?" Khalida questioned, her words slightly blurred together from a mixed cocktail of the potion, pain and tiredness. Silver-grey eyes softened at the nickname bestowed upon him Regulus couldn't help but chuckle softly as he kissed her forehead.
"Look up, Little Fox I'm sure you'll recognise where we're going." Regulus teased as the large awe inspiring domed glass structure came into view bringing forth an excitable gasp from the young Heiress. "Calm down." He chuckled. "I don't want to drop you in the snow and we're almost there."
"But if you dropped me then we could make snow angels, Reggie." Khalida pointed out with a cheeky smile causing Regulus to let out a barking laugh so similar to his brother's as they were both Natural Animagi.
They were the first in centuries within the Black family to bestow such a gift as their Father and Uncle Alphard were only partial Natural Animagi where the beasts had been awakened. Like their Father, Regulus was the second Death Omen known to Wizard kind: The Black Dog - which was a large black wolf with red eyes; whereas, Sirius took after their Uncle and became a Grimm which was a large black dog with either white or black eyes. Which was almost symbolic due to their association with the Potters who had Death Magick due to their ancestor Ignotus Peverell, but such magic had only become obvious in the last three generations: the Potter brothers Fleamont and Charlus, James and Khalida.
The moment they entered the sanctuary it was like all of Khalida's pain and worries had been left at the door as she gravitated towards the common area of the sanctuary where all creatures could be together if they so wished to be (there were wards set up so they could not attack each other). The moment she slowly eased herself onto the ground Ori the sandy coloured Niffler ran forwards, climbing into her lap letting out happy chirps and purrs as Khalida cuddled and kissed with the mischievous creature.
The cute but mischievous creature seems to be the starting point as Regulus seemed to have blinked before he found Khalida surrounded by creatures all happy to see her and vying for her attention taking her mind from the pain that wracked her body constantly. A satisfied smile stole across his lips as he conjured himself a comfy chair to wait; he was beyond pleased that his plan was working, he loved seeing that smile on Little Fox's face.

~ Flashback: August 2nd 1986 ~
Despite not being very high in the air, Regulus was still a little nervous and worried to take a newly six year old Khalida up into the air to teach her some Seeker moves; however, she seemed happier, freer up in the air and he knew then that she needed this after the bad attack this morning. He could see she was still stiff and in severe pain but she was happy.
"Reggie, watch this!" Khalida called excitedly, directing her broom to take her higher, despite his protests, before she suddenly turned setting off as fast as she could downwards. Lying flat on the broom handle, the wind whipping at her hair and clothes, she unconsciously fed her magic into the broom making it go faster while trying to catch up with the practice Snitch never once taking her eyes off of it.
Regulus and their family's cries - having been attracted by Regulus's desperate shouts - became a white noise in her ears, filtered out by the wind and her delighted giggles, when several feet from the hard ground she levelled out her broom with the Snitch fluttering uselessly in her small hand a triumphant smile upon her lips.
It was silent for all but a moment until Sirius, Regulus, Monty and Charlus's cries wrenched the air as they raced to the six year old praises falling from their lips as they hugged her tightly in relief. They had all but had a heart attack when they saw their tiny Little Fox performing the Wronski Feint upon a child's broom (which shouldn't have been possible).
"That was amazing, Jamie." Monty praised. Each mischievous troublemaking man in her life peppering her face with kisses. After getting over their shock Farrah, Remus, Dorea, Arthur and Caitrin joined the celebratory praises while simultaneously begging her to never do it again.
Farrah was secretly planning to write to the broom company and informing them of what has happened to ensure this doesn't happen again as it would've been a disaster if Regulus hadn't been there if anything had gone wrong. Shaking her head of such thoughts she kissed her Princess holding her extra tightly as if to reassure herself that her only Granddaughter was still with her, it was only Remus's voice that pulled her from her thoughts as she finally let her granddaughter go to her Godfathers.
"James would be so proud of you, Cub." Remus praised.
"He always said his Princess would be a Quidditch star." Sirius added, a mix of elation and fear still surging within him.
"You better watch out Regulus," Dorea teased, "otherwise you and Jamie may lose your spots as the best and renowned Quidditch Seekers of Hogwarts in your Years."
"There's no one better to lose it to." Regulus declared, earning a blinding smile from Khalida.

~ Flashback: Potter Manor, Yule Ball December 23rd 1987 ~
Khalida as Heiress to the Most Ancient and Most Noble House of Potter and Heiress to the Most Regal and Most Ancient House of Peverell stood between her grandparents as they waited to welcome their guests for the Yule Ball they were hosting this year. Both Grandmother and Granddaughter were wearing complementary colours which were also matched with the colours of Yule. Farrah was wearing a beautiful sea green saree with golden metallic heels, a golden bindi, natural makeup and her hair half up- half down. Whereas, Khalida was wearing a black and gold saree with green and gold shoes, a red bindi and her hair matching her grandmother's.
At seven years old Khalida was itching to go play with her cousin Draco and their friends - Heiress Luna Lovegood who was a year younger at six years old (not that it mattered to them), her cousins Heiress Daphne and secondary Heiress Astoria Greengrass (who was a year younger than Luna at five) through their mother, Heir Neville Longbottom, Heiress Pansy Parkinson, Heiress Millicent Bulstrode who was also wearing a saree but in red, Heiress Tracey Davis who was wearing a kimono type dress, and finally Heirs Blaise Zabini and Theo Nott - but she would never embarrass her family or her Godfather's family like that.
Once all of the guests had arrived her Grandparents Farrah and Monty smiled so happily at her kissing her forehead and hugging her tightly.
"Well done my Little Princess." Farrah praised, bestowing her Granddaughter another kiss to the forehead beside the bindi. "You have done so well and behaved exceptionally much better than your father did, I suspect he got that from your Grandfather and Uncle Charlus while you got yours from me and your mother." She whispered conspicuously, smiling widely as Khalida giggled happily. She loved learning about her parents as well as being allowed to flourish and become her own person and not a copy of her parents.
"I heard that!" Fleamont grumbled, arms crossed over his chest with a scowl (a pout) on his face.
"You were meant to, dear." Farrah teased, kissing her husband's cheek causing the scowl (pout) to melt away.
"Here you go, Ellie." Monty said, handing over a potion as he knew she had been fighting through the pain to greet their guests and they hardly had a moment to pause in between greeting them.
"Thank you Grandpa." Khalida sighed in relief as the potion immediately started working. She loved how amazing her grandfather was at potions and duelling and loved learning from him equally as much.
"You're welcome. Go on, off you go. I'm sure your friends are eager to see you and we know how dramatic Pansy and Draco can be." Monty teased her, smiling as she happily took off down the hall to the smaller foyer that was set up for the children.
The moment Khalida pushed open the door multiple excitable yells wrenched the air almost sounding like an explosion as she was pulled into the room and hugged tightly being passed from one arm to another before she was back in her cousin Draco's arms for another hug.
"You only saw me the other day, Dragon." Khalida teased, but a happy smile was upon her face as she returned the hug whole heartedly.
"And that's much too long!" Draco declared dramatically. "Two whole days without you to fly with or play pranks with, I nearly died! Theo doesn't like to fly but loves reading and pranks whereas Blaise is the opposite and loves flying and flirting. My cousin is off limits to all of you!" He protested passionately to rounds of laughter.
"Does that include me when she is of age, dear nephew?" Regulus teased him as he entered the room.
"YES!!!" Multiple voices shouted at once.
"If you hurt my friend I will set the Bubbling Humdingers and Nargles on you, Regulus." Luna declared fiercely.
"I have a few dangerous plants in my Greenhouses at home we could also use if you hurt Khali." Neville added.
"And I'm sure we can come up with a plan to prank you mercilessly." Pansy declared strongly, glaring at the Black Heir who was her best friend's soulmate.
"I shall keep that in mind but I promise you all, I will never hurt Khali." Regulus assured them.
"Good." They stated decisively, before they changed the topic as they caught up on what they had all been doing since they last saw each other.

~ Flashback: Malfoy Manor, August 30th 1990 ~
Draco and Kali couldn't help but giggle as they waited for Sirius and Regulus' appearance so their prank could be enacted, as if realising they were giggling they quickly covered each other's mouth with their hands trying to stifle their laughs as they peered out through the travel cloaks contained within an ancient oak wardrobe in the foyer the door left slightly ajar so they could watch their prank unfold. As the pair would be attending Hogwarts the following year, they had decided to throw the biggest prank ever as their send off so to speak. So they had convinced Dobby to give Sirius and Regulus a glass of water laced with colour changing potions that would affect their hair.
After all they were both a Black and you didn't mess with a Black's hair. It was pure common knowledge but the troublesome twosome had decided it would be a perfect target for their pranks. As Sirius and Regulus walked past the mirror directly opposite the wardrobe Khali and Draco were hiding in both men caught sight of their once curly and lush black locks which were now luminous purple with sickly green spots and looked rather scraggly and let out the most high pitch scream that either ten year old had ever heard. At their scream and the running feet of Narcissa and Lucius, both Draco and Khalida lost their composure completely and collapsed in a heap at the bottom of the wardrobe laughing raucously with tears pouring down their cheeks while clutching their sides.
It didn't help matters that when Narcissa and Lucius arrived they stood there blinking owlishly at the pair before they too descended into deep uncontrollable laughter especially when the Black brothers had matching looks of horror on their faces as they stared at their reflection with mounting horror lifting each lock desperately as if that would make it return back to their jet black colour and healthy bouncy curls.
"Y-your faces!" Draco and Khalida gasped, tumbling from the wardrobe as they laughed deep belly laughs clutching their sides. "Oo-ooh that hu-hurts!" They gasped through their laughter.
"Did you two do this?" Sirius asked in a mix of horror and pride. Not able to speak, the two ten year olds just nodded their heads rapidly. "I'm so proud!" Sirius crowed, swooping down and bear hugging the pair. "But next time prank ol' Lucius or Regulus and not me, okay?" Sirius asked desperately, ignoring the indignation from his brother and Lucius just smiling happily at his Goddaughter and nephew's delight.

~ Flashback: Hogwarts Express, September 1st 1991 ~
Khali had just left her compartment with her friends to use the bathroom ignoring the looks directed at her while keeping her head held high despite the rising anxiety within her. She didn't want to have a meltdown in front of the student body and needed to escape to the bathroom as quickly as possible for some semblance of solitude. However, luck wasn't in her favour when she was stopped by an obnoxious redheaded boy in her year and a girl with brown bushy hair.
"You're Khalida Potter!!!" The redhead shouted, causing Khali to wince at the loud noise. "Wow! Do you have THE scar?! Can we see?! Oi, I said: can we see!?" He shouted when it seemed like Khalida either didn't hear him or wasn't listening.
"It's rude not to listen, you know!" The girl said snootily. "I've read all about you, you know."
"There all lies." Khalida refuted but that seemed to upset the girl as she glared at her and put her hands on her hips.
"How can they all be lies?! It's in a book!!"
"You both are being very rude, you know, that's not how you talk to someone." Khalida argued as calmly as she could, putting her Heiress lessons into effect and closing off all expressions as much as she could when she was seconds from a meltdown.
"Oh you're one of them!" The redhead spat in disgust. "An Heiress."
"Well yes. Merry Meet, I'm Heiress Khalida Eilonwy Jamie Potter. Heiress to -"
"Why must you introduce yourself like that!? It's very annoying." The girl argued.
"That's how you're supposed to introduce yourself, it's the proper introduction." Khalida informed them. She was feeling more and more anxious as they were attracting a crowd.
"RONALD!!!" Two voices shouted, from behind the boy and girl in front of her. Two identical redheads appeared with scowls on their faces which turned into glares directed at their brother and the girl when they noticed how uncomfortable Khalida was. "Did you seriously ask her that!! And have a go at her for the proper greeting!?" They asked incredulously.
"Oh go away Fred, George!" Ronald snapped, waving his hand at them.
"No!" The taller one argued. "I suggest you apologise, both of you to Heiress Potter, and go back to your compartment and stay there. Or we will write to Bill and Charlie." He insisted when it looked like he would argue further.
With a huff the pair stormed off stomping their feet petulantly.
"That does for all of you too!" The shorter but louder one shouted to the crowd which quickly dispersed. "We're sorry about that girl and our younger brother, Heiress Potter, he's been spoiled by our mother. Merry Meet I'm George."
"Merry Meet, I'm Fred." The taller boy introduced, the pair holding out their hands. Khalida assessed them for a moment before she smiled and shook their hands and what she said next shocked the pair but endeared her further to the twins who had already been taken in by her doe-like emerald eyes.
"No you're not. You're Fred," she said, pointing to the boy who had introduced himself as George. "And your George." She added pointing at the taller twin.
"How did you know?" They asked, shocked.
"There's little things." She confessed before introducing herself to the twins who made her feel calm much like her family did.
"If Ron or anyone else bothers you again, no matter what House you enter, let us know and we will prank them." Fred assured her, smiling widely that he and George had someone other than Bill and Charlie who could tell them apart.
"You like pranks?" Khalida asked, her eyes sparkling in joy. "What ones have you done? My cousin Draco and I love pranking our friends and my Godfather and soulmate."
"Do you now?" Fred asked intrigued, at that the trio shared all the pranks that they have pulled so far and even once they wished to in the near and far future.
"George, it looks like we have someone to join in on our pranks and perhaps make them better!" Fred crowed elated, physically vibrating on the spot.
"Fred, I was thinking exactly the same thing!" George confessed, a Cheshire Cat-like smile upon his face as they followed Khalida back to her compartment with her friends planning pranks for the remainder of the journey, even with some input from Draco and the others. From that moment on Fred and George had become a permanent fixture within her life and friend group.

"Kali, are you alright?" Luna asked, as she sat down beside her friend in front of the grand fireplace in the library section of the Ravenclaw common room. "Did the Nargles get you?"
"Oh, sorry Moon. No, I was lost in my memories. Don't worry they didn't get me." Khalida assured, accepting the hug from her eccentric friend. She absolutely adored Luna and refused to let anyone bully her or take any of her belongings and warded her trunk, bag and around her bed to avoid such a thing from happening after the first time in Luna's First Year, her Second Year. Luna was like her little sister and the pair were equally fiercely protective of each other.
"Good I'm glad." Luna sighed with relief. "I won't let anyone or anything hurt my big sister." Luna declared fiercely, her silver-blue eyes turning into shards of ice.
"And I won't let anyone or anything hurt my little sister." Khalid declared, grasping Luna's hand as Luna rested her head on her shoulder while Khalida rested her cheek on Luna's head. The pair sitting peacefully with each other and just soaking up the comfort and security the other so surely offered. They had been each other's lifeline for years and were most likely platonic soulmates given how at ease they always were with each other. They had a feeling the worst was still yet to come but for right now, they could just be sisters giving each other comfort they needed during this turbulent year.

Chapter 5: Chapter Four, Animagi
Chapter Text
Chapter Four, Animagi
As the months seemed to fly by and bleed into one another Khalida and her friends dedicated themselves to learning all they possibly could and improving sparring under her grandfather's firm and strict tutelage. Before each duelling session he'd order them to complete two laps around the lake to increase their stamina, speed and endurance while making sure they were as fit as possible with no exceptions; apart from Khalida if she was having a bad day (pain wise) she was reduced to one lap and if the severity kept on increasing then the number would be lowered accordingly.
During the last month, just before the term broke up for the Ostara holiday, Khalida along with Luna, Neville, Draco, Fred and George were also learning how to become Animagi under the tutelage of her Uncle Siri; which in the day of Fred and George's seventeenth birthday they all completed the full body transformations.
They had been working on the process for a month now, holding a Mandrake leaf in their mouths for a month while the potion sat on a window sill in clear view of the sun and moon for the full lunar cycle and could finally add the leaf and drink the potion which they did half an hour ago. However, Khalida didn't need to drink the potion on account of James being an Animagi it became easier to complete the transformation. But she needed to hold the Mandrake leaf in her mouth, the same as the others, as the leaf unlocks the animal from the depths of your Magical Core.
"Okay, you should be able to see your Animagi forms in your mind-scape. It'll look like either the habitat of your form or where you feel most comfortable. Let the feelings of your forms wash over you as you become one with your form. Your magic free and washing over you as it feels complete." Sirius coached, his tone low and comforting. Coaching the teens who were all meditating when suddenly creatures started appearing in his and Remus's lounge.
The girls (Pansy, Millicent, Tracey, Daphne and Astoria) along with Blaise and Theo watched raptly with intrigue and fascination. They hadn't wanted to become Animagi but thankfully Professor Sirius, Remus (who had become teaching assistants for Ancient Runes for Sirius, and D.A.D.A years 1-3 for Remus after what had happened at the Second Task, Mad-Eye being the guest speaker for years 4-7). As well as Professors Monty and Charlus had allowed them a one time entrance to Sirius and Remus's accommodations to support their friends as long as they were quiet. Sirius had the largest grin possible as he literally vibrated with pride as he watched his beloved Goddaughter and her friends complete the transition. He knew Regulus was going to regret working today when he sends him a Patronus later.
Looking around at the animals before them (feeling thankful they'd had the foresight to clear a space in the living room), Remus couldn't help but feel the animals reflected Kali and her friends perfectly.
Draco was a Welsh Green Dragon with some white blonde scales which matched his hair, and who was curled up on the rug before the roaring fire.
Neville was a sandy brown and dark brown Mountain Lion with hazel green eyes, and who was curled up in between Draco and Fred's grey Coyote form; whereas, George was a red coyote that was lying on Fred's other side.
Luna was a tiny speckled owl (a Spotted Owl, if Monty was not mistaken) with ice blue eyes just like Luna's.
Khalida was a beautiful sandy-white Fennec fox with Kali's stunning emerald eyes curled up against George with Luna perched on Fred's shoulder.
"Wow." Astoria whispered in wonderment.
"I'm so proud of you, Habibti." Monty said proudly, scratching Khalida's ears, a smile and tender look appeared in his eyes as he watched Khalida's eyes close in bliss as she let out a cooing purr while the girls, Blaise and Theo watched in a stunned silence as their eyes shone with amazement. "It means sweetheart in Arabic." Monty explained to the confused teens. "I learnt it when I first met Farrah," a loving besotted smile took over his face at the mention of his wife, "trying to impress her and earn points from her father who was Sultan at the time."
Monty knew Regulus, Arthur and Jamal would be ecstatic but also gutted that they'd missed it. "We're proud of all of you." He added, smiling at the other teens.
"That we are," Sirius, Charlus and Remus agreed. A look appeared in Charlus and Sirius's eyes before they both burst into loud laughter and chortles.
"What are the pair of you laughing at?" Remus asked, completely baffled.
"Kali...Regulus's mark...fox." Sirius gasped between laughs, tears rolling down his cheeks.
"What?" Blaise and Theo asked, confused, sharing a look with each other. Taking a moment to calm themselves while gasping for breath, Charlus and Sirius wiped away their tears and tried again.
"James would find Kali's fox form both funny at the irony because Reggie's soulmate mark is that of a little fox, but he'd also want to curse someone. Most likely Reggie. No, he'd definitely want to curse Reggie." Charlus explained once he was calmer only to descend into laughter once more and was quickly followed by Sirius and Monty as well.
Remus just rolled his eyes at them and turned back to his niece and his students who were waiting on them.
"Ignore them, they're idiots." Remus told them with a slight scoff and donned his "professor mode" as Sirius, James and Reggie would say. "Congratulations to all of you." He praised smiling widely at them. "Now, all you have to do is think of yourself as human. How you look, how you feel, how you think. Everything that makes you human." Remus coached,
Smiling encouragingly at them as their bodies started to shake and be absorbed in light, while ignoring his husband who was bouncing around the room in pure joy at the successful first go at becoming an Animagi their Goddaughter/niece just underwent.
"That was wicked!" Fred and George exclaimed, beaming widely and overcome with joy, once they had regathered their bearings. To have their idols coach them through the process of becoming Animagi and to help them think up their very own Marauder generation-two names was a dream come true; and it was all thanks to their little sister Khalida Elionwy Jamie Potter.
"We already thought of names for most of us, Uncle Siri." Khalida told him, sitting beside him and snuggling into his side as she accepted the hot chocolate with whipped cream, marshmallows from her grandfather.
"Don't leave me in suspense, Kali. What is it?" Sirius asked eagerly.
"I'm Mischief." Khalida told them.
"We're Chaos -" Fred.
"And Mayhem." George finished.
"Very aptly named." Monty laughed to the three of them, earning beaming smiles back from the trio as the Yule Ball played in everyone's minds.
"I'm Rêve." Luna said serenely. "It means dream in French."
"And I'm Briar." Neville finished, as Khalida suddenly gasped jumping up from her seat to grab hold of Draco's hand.
"Kali? What's wrong?" Draco asked, concerned.
"You know how you didn't know what to pick for your name and didn't want us to think of any until we saw your form," Khalida started, bouncing with excitement, "well, what about Dreki? It means dragon in Old Norse. It's strong and unique while still having the same ring to it and match our names!" Her emerald eyes shined brightly as they filled with hope. Hoping her dear friend and cousin will like the name she thought of. Slowly a wide smile stole across Draco's face, while squeezing Khalida's hand in comfort and reassurance.
"I like it!" Draco exclaimed. "I really like it. Thanks Mischief." He added teasingly, his whole countenance slight with joy and laughter.
"No problem Dreki." Khalida returned, eyes sparkling with joy as she got to act her age with her friends. The whole issue with the tournament pushed from their minds for now as they got to be kids instead of training to survive what's coming next.

Chapter 6: Chapter Five, Family Day
Chapter Text
Chapter Five, Family Day
The month leading up to the Third Task was dedicated to training and improving their spell repertoire for Khalida and her friends. By the time the day before the Third Task, and therefore Family Day, had arrived they had a very extensive skill set which had also started to include swords, daggers, hand-to-hand combat and a bow and arrow. Monty wanted them (but lost especially his sweet granddaughter) to be well trained and prepared in case there ever came a time they - Merlin forbid - couldn't use their magic.
As Khalida was pouting herself and Luna some tea while Luna dished them both a bowl of golden syrup porridge with a small side bowl of chopped banana, raisins and strawberries (something they did for each other every morning), their Head of House Professor Flitwick made his way down the long table with a comforting smile upon his face.
"Ahh. Good morning girls." Professor Flitwick greeted.
"Good morning Professor." The pair returned with sweet smiles as they finished their teas to their liking.
"Khalida, once you have finished your breakfast and taken your potions there are some family members in the antechamber waiting for you. It's Family Day today for the Champions, it's tradition for the families of the champions to celebrate with them and show support the day before the last task." Professor Flitwick explained.
"Thank you Professor." Khalida whispered slightly nervously over what would happen that evening as someone had entered her into this tournament to kill her and this was their last chance to do so.
"Of course." Professor Flitwick smiled, patting her arm gently with a comforting smile.
"You are going to do extraordinary tomorrow evening, Miss Potter, you have trained relentlessly and dedicated yourself beyond what anyone thought possible. But," he looked around then before lowering his voice to barely a whisper, "I and Headmistress McGonagall have given your grandfather some spells from our repertoire for you to learn and practice."
"Thank you Sir." Khalida whispered beyond touched what her Head of House and her Headmistress were willing to do for her. Professor Flitwick merely winked before he returned to the teacher's table at the top of the room; as Khalida cast her eyes to the top of the Great Hall she noticed Professor McGonagall smiling mischievously at her which Khalida was more than happy to return.
* * *
Once Khalida had finished her breakfast and taken all of her potions she followed Professor Flitwick's instructions, hesitantly pushing open the door to the antechamber that was beside the teacher's table, the very same room she was made to enter after her name had come out of the Goblet of Fire on Samhain. Slowly, so her legs did not give out on her and with one hand on the wall, Khalida went down the steep steps taking in the sight before her. All around the room her fellow Champions were reuniting with their families, beside the stairs but slightly to the left was Cedric Diggory with his parents Amos and Amy; opposite them was Viktor Krum with his parents Nadya and Andrey, talking in a Bulgarian with each other in a rapid pace.
At the back to the right was Fleur with her parents and little sister who Khalida knew to be Armand, Apolline and Gabrielle who were talking to a small group of people who Khalida knew extremely well and brought a wide smile on her face as she flew towards them crashing into her Grandma Farrah's waiting arms. Farrah closed her eyes as she relished holding her granddaughter close to her again, placing a gentle kiss upon her head, a hand running through Khalida's hair soothingly, her hat having been flung off her head in her run. But she wasn't the only one who was there. She was joined by her husband, Fleamont (despite working at the school), Regulus Black (her granddaughter's soulmate), and her eldest brother and Sultan, Aziz Khan.
"Are you okay, little one?" Aziz asked with a concerned frown upon his face. He loved all his family equally but there was no denying he had a soft spot for his nieces and nephews, great or otherwise.
"I'm okay. The potion is helping." Khalida assured, pulling back from her grandmother to hug her great-uncle, then her grandfather and finally Regulus. "Thank you Grandpa. How is everyone?" She asked, looking around at them all.
"Everyone is fine, Khali." Regulus assured her, kissing her forehead. "They're all worried for thy but cheering you on. Grandfather told me to tell you that he and Grandmother will be in the stands with us cheering you on."
"And I'm under very strict orders from your aunts, my brother and your cousins to tell you they wish they were all here with us cheering you on in person, but the distance doesn't mean an iota compared to how proud they are of you. I'm also under strict orders to pay very close attention so that they can watch what happened in my pensieve." Aziz told her with an exaggerated eye roll making Khalida laugh.
"Khalida." Viktor interrupted with a soft smile. "I vant to vish you luck in the next task, you have done amazing. And introduce you to my parents. This is my mother Nadya and my father Andrey. And I vant to apologise for how Hermyonee has treated you." At that he looked down at his feet ashamed he took someone who was prejudiced towards Khalida all for something she couldn't change.
"Thank you Viktor." Khalida smiled at him. "You've done well too and good luck in the next task, also it's not your fault for how Hermione is, some are just small minded I guess." Khalida shrugged before turning to his parents. "It's a pleasure to meet you."
"You as well." Andrey shook Khalida's hand.
"I hope it's the start of a long term friendship between you and my son, despite his appalling taste in dates." At Nadya's words Viktor looked up hopefully, making the sour teen actually look his age.
"Of course." Khalida smiled, a yelp leaving her lips as Viktor pulled her into a sudden hug whispering gratitude into her ear.
"HEY!!!" A sudden bellow made everyone jump and look towards the stairs where a red faced Ron Weasley stood with his mother Molly who was also red faced but stood with her hands on her hips as she glared at Khalida. "WHY THE HELL ARE YOU HUGGING VIKTOR KRUM!!!"
"How does it concern you?" Fleur asked, coming to stand beside Khalida. "She's our friend."
"Well we're family, she's just confused 'cause her brain is all messed up!" Ron shouted, stunning the room into an outraged and shocked silence.
"Excuse me!" Farrah hissed, her eyes narrowed dangerously in the pair. "My granddaughter is not confused and nor is her brain messed up and what you just said is completely disgusting and prejudiced."
"Oh you would think that wouldn't you, snake." Molly argued. "And how dare you speak to my son in such a way! We are her family!"
"Who are you?" Monty scoffed sarcastically, his hazel eyes blazing with fire. "I don't know where you get off on judging people but do not speak to my wife in such a way! She is a much better woman than you will ever be."
"You have no right to say either of you are family." Regulus added, hugging Khalida to him offering her some comfort. He knew with her autism and anxiety shouting can sometimes be a bit too much; especially when she is already wrought with nerves about tonight and her bandy wracked with pain.
"For your information my brother and I are from Egypt where he is Sultan and we attended Cairo Institution of Magic." Farrah informed derisively.
"For a woman who plays favourites with her own children, comparing them against each other and putting them against each other you have a lot of nerve. You can't even tell the difference between your twin sons when it is obvious if you actually care and pay attention to them instead of putting them down and making them feel inferior all the time. Which they are not by the way! They are incredibly smart and talented young men and will go far in this world and there will come a time Molly Weasley where you will realise the huge mistake you've made and by then it'll be far too late and all those around you will say: 'I told you so!'" Monty spat taking pleasure in the blotchy anger mixed with humiliation rising on her face.
He didn't like to humiliate people, despised it in fact, but he couldn't stand by and watch the way she treats Fred and George. He wouldn't.
"And don't get me started on the disgusting attitude and behaviour of the son beside you. He has no manners, and no tact whatsoever. He treats his own brothers abominably, let alone the others in this school both the student body and the visiting students of Beauxbâtons and Durmstrang. He treats women appallingly, as if he owns them, always leering at them. It's disgusting! So no Molly Weasley you are not family and nor is the brat beside you far from it in fact. The only members of your family who are considered family are Fred and George and I will endeavour for it to stay that way.
Oh, and be warned, I will be reporting your arrival at this school unannounced, your behaviour and your lack of common decency towards those around you for your actions to the Headmistress, the Board of Governors, and the Ministry." Monty finished sharply, glare full in effect. He was pleased to see she paled slightly at the mention of McGonagall, the Board of Governors, and the Ministry.
"Don't worry Lord Potter, I have already made notes, and will send them in shortly." Amos promised.
"Now Amos -" Molly reproached.
"No you have gone too far Mrs Weasley." Amy Diggory, Cedric's mother, snapped. "I have also told you time and again not to speak to my husband so informally or familiarly. As has Amos."
Regulus nodded his head at the Diggorys as he led Khalida out of the chamber, familiarising himself with the faces of Ronald and Molly Weasley. He fully intended to inform his brother and Remus what had happened as Ronald needed to be kept an eye on; Regulus didn't trust him, plus Arthur was distantly related to the House of Black and needed to get his house in order even if Sirius or their grandfather had to order it. But it would have to be later on today once Sirius had finished helping in Ancient Runes as a teaching assistant, and once his brother-in-law Remus Lupin-Black had finished teaching as well.
Remus had become the teaching assistant for D.A.D.A years 1-3 thanks to Minerva and Jordan Cooper the new D.A.D.A (after Snape told everyone the previous year that Remus was a werewolf, Minerva was able to get him back as a teaching assistant just after Yule with Jordan's help) and Remus was loving it.
After the interruption of that morning it had spread all over Hogwarts, what Molly and Ronald had done and tried to do, resulting in the woman being all but thrown out of the front gates by Minerva herself who then banned her from the school grounds. If an issue came up with any of her children it was now down to Arthur to deal with. Molly even had a threat of a restraining order hanging over head which was the only thing that made her leave. But Khalida hadn't found out any of this until she joined her friends at the Slytherin table with her family, along with Luna, Neville, Fred and George joining them as well, as they sat opposite Pansy and the others. She had spent the day having a picnic beside the lake with her family or in the dueling chambers showing what she learnt and even being taught some new spells from the Potter, Peverell, Khan and Black Grimoires.
"You've got to eat something Khali." Fred, who sat next to her with KP painted on one cheek in blue and an eagle on the other in bronze, said coaxingly.
"He's right sweetheart." Dorea added, squeezing her niece's hand. "You need your strength for this task but you need food for your potions and so your magic can replenish safely. You know you have stronger and more powerful magic. If you don't eat your magic will look for energy elsewhere in your body, and if you have to fight your way through that maze then you could end up collapsing or burning out your Core." Khalida knew what her aunt was saying was true as she had taken Healing as an elective and that was the first thing they learnt in class.
Conceding, despite her queasy stomach, Khalida slowly ate her tomato, herb and cheese pasta that would be light but filling enough as her family and friends talked softly around her; she didn't even bat an eye when the other Champions joined them just offered them a shaky smile before going back to fighting with her stomach as she tried to eat. Feelings of love and safety washed over her; it seemed they had set a trend as the other Slytherins went and sat with their friends from other Houses, soon it was four mixed tables instead of four separate tables by the time all of the teachers and Ministry workers had filled the hall. It was peaceful until a nervous Professor Flitwick approached them.
You could easily see he didn't want to interrupt the peace that had washed over them and that he was trying- but failing - to hide how nervous he was. Everyone knew there was a reason why she had been entered into this blasted tournament and no one wanted to find out what that reason was as tonight was the last time they could do so.
"Miss Potter, it's time." Professor Flitwick uttered, his voice strong despite his obvious nervous countenance.
"Good luck sweetheart." Her family whispered as she climbed from her seat downing her potions as she went. As she joined her professor's side of shaky legs, various shouts of 'good luck Khali!' were floating around the Great Hall after them. But it was, of course, Chaos and Mayhem's shouts that boosted her confidence as a soft laugh tumbled from her lips as they stepped over the threshold of the Entrance Hall, 'Knock 'em dead Mischief!' Maybe she would survive this after all?

Chapter Six, The Third Task
The four Champions were sat waiting for the signal to enter the transformed Quidditch pitch after they had been dropped off by their Heads of House – for Cedric and Khalida – and Headmaster/mistress for Victor and Fleur. Just before he left to help his colleagues see everyone into the stands and make sure the band was in place, Flitwick cast the Screening Charm on the four Champions, the same charm he had applied for the previous two tasks. This charm would create four screens showing the four Champions and would allow everyone to see into the maze and would not end until they reappeared in the Quidditch pitch.
The time seemed to creep by slowly and simultaneously fly by before they know it as the door was pushed opened by Fleamont Potter with Amos Diggory, Headmistress Madam Maxime and Headmaster Igor Karkaroff behind him.
"Good luck." The four champions whispered to each other as they each followed behind their sponsors towards the pitch.
"Everything is going to be alright, sweetheart." Monty whispered to his granddaughter, pulling into a hug.
Faintly they could hear the band playing different trumpets conducted by Professor Flitwick, and the cheers rising from the stands. "You're going to do well, and we will be proud of you no matter what, all you have to do is try your best." He encouraged, pulling back with his hands on her shoulders. Khalida noticed that her grandfather had face paint matching to what was on her friends, and it brought a smile to her face while easing the tight knot in her chest. But she had to confess her fears before she was forced into the maze; she had a bad feeling which had been building all day.
"I have a bad feeling about this task, grandfather." Khalida confessed softly, not wanting the other champions to hear her. "It's been building all day, but it feels worse now, its like a knot in my chest. Like there's this charge in the air." Only his willpower kept Monty from showing his fear at her words, it was the same feeling that he and his brother had been feeling all day while the rest of their family couldn't sense anything but were no less concerned at that proclamation and it was then that the Peverell and Potter Magicks was the cause of them feeling this way.
The honed senses of the Death Magicks from their Peverell lineage and the honed senses of the Battle Magicks and Mage of their Potter blood gave the three a keen insight to what was brewing on the horizon; and that troubled Monty and Charlus deeply. However, Monty wanted Khalida to have a clear mind for the task ahead and eased her fears with only the ease of their deep bond could afford him. Although, he did promise her that several teachers along with Charlus would be patrolling the edge of the maze throughout the task but made her swear that if she ever felt like she was in danger to cast Periculum with her wand and she could leave the task with either he or Charlus coming to her location which seemed to calm the rising anxiety within her, at least for the moment.
"Ready?" Monty asked.
"Ready." Khalida agreed, nodding her head. Monty nodded pulling her in one last hug before they followed behind Cedric and Amos Diggory, Headmistress Maxime and Fleur Delacour, and Headmaster Karkaroff and Victor Krum. In the middle of the pitch stood Headmistress McGonagall with each of the champions stood around her (Cedric and Victor to McGonagall's right and Fleur and Khalida to her right. Little Gabrielle Delacour stood in between her sister and Khalida holding on to both of their hands, pulling smiles onto both older girls' faces).
"Sonorus!" McGonagall chanted, using the charm to increase the volume of her voice and causing everyone in the stands to quiet down and take their seats. Once she was sure she had everyone's attention, including Minister Fudge who was sat in the front row with Severus and Filius, but the bumbling Minister often thought everyone should cater to him even though they were trying to get on with the task. Plus he had ignored her warnings about this whole tournament even when Barty Crouch Sr was killed on Hogwarts grounds after the Second Task back in February.
"Earlier today, Professor Moody placed the Triwizard Cup deep within the maze. Only he knows its exact position. Now, as Mr. Diggory..." she had to pause as cheers for the sixth year Hufflepuff wrenched the air.
"...and Miss Potter..." this time cheers for Khalida wrenched the air. The cheers were not only from her family and the Ravenclaws that wrenched the air but from Fleur and Gabrielle beside her as well as Cedric and Victor (to Karkaroff's anger), but her friends in Hufflepuff (Neville), Slytherin and Gryffindor and some polite cheers from some of the other Hufflepuffs.
"...are tied for first position...they will be the first to enter the maze, followed by Mr. Krum..." cheers from the three champions, some Beauxbâtons and Hogwarts students filled the air, with the students from Durmstrang being egged on by Karkaroff.
"...and Miss Delacour." This time only the three champions, Gabrielle and Beauxbâtons students cheered for the eldest Delacour. "The first person to touch the cup will be the winner!" As McGonagall continued to addressing the stands, each of the champions move to a different entrance to the maze, standing beside their designated coloured flag. Royal blue for Khalida, light blue for Fleur, yellow for Cedric and brown for Victor. "I've instructed the staff to patrol the perimeter. Should, at any point, a contestant wish to withdraw from the task or are no longer able to compete for any reason...he or she need only send up red sparks with their wands and the closest member of staff will immediately assist them.
Contestants! Quickly gather around for a moment!" McGonagall called to the four of them, turning her back on the stands as she addressed them. "In the maze, you'll find no dragons or creatures of the deep. Instead you will be challenged intellectually and magically. You will find puzzles and riddles you will need to solve correctly before you can access a path to further your journey towards the middle of the maze. However, there will be other enchantments or even other creatures you may face so be very wary." With her warnings of what they may face given the four turn back to own entrances only for Khalida to let out a soft oomph as Gabrielle ran into her hugging her tightly.
"Good luck." Gabrielle wished, hugging Khalida tightly, she had been besotted with her ever since she saved her in the lake.
"Thank you Gabby." Khalida whispered her voice tight as she returned the hug, nodding to the others as she didn't think she could speak.
"Champions, prepare yourselves!" McGonagall shouted, signalling the task would begin very shortly. At that Gabrielle ran back to Madame Maxime and her older sister while Khalida looked into the stands spotting her Grandmother Farrah, Aunt Dorea, Uncles Sirius, Remus, Charlus and Aziz and Regulus sat in the stands amongst her friends Luna, Neville, Fred, George, Draco, Blaise, Theo, Daphne, Astoria, Pansy, Millicent and Tracey. All of them decked out in colours to cheer her on either wearing Ravenclaw colours or face paint, and with banners that read 'Khalida to win' and 'GO KHALI!' And all of them giving her some form of encouragement which brought a smile to her face as she joined her grandfather over by her flag.
"Good luck sweetheart! You have trained relentlessly for months and have improved greatly. Just believe in yourself and you will do amazing!" Monty whispered, pulling her into a tight hug with his voice tight. He pulled back looking her over to make sure she was truly okay and would be warm enough in the black trousers and long-sleeved black and royal blue shirt. The shirt was half black on the right side with a blue sleeve and the opposite on the other side. The Hogwarts crest on the front left breast and read 'POTTER' in block lettering on the back in blue.
To make sure she wouldn't be in pain and collapse and give a fighting chance against the other champions who didn't have her condition, Monty passed her a pain potion. The las thing he wanted her was to be forced to leave the tournament due to a spike in her pain brought on from all the running.
"Thanks Grandfather, I'll see you later." Khalida croaked, trying and failing for a cheerful response. Monty hiding his fear and nerves, kissed her forehead as McGonagall spoke once again as cheers filled the air from all over the stands.
"On the count of three. One –" yet again Mr. Filch fired the cannon far too early, only shrugging unrepentantly when Minerva gave him a look. Taking a deep breath, Khalida summoned her wand from her wand holster on her arm and entered the maze while Cedric entered at the same time to the right of her.
"Point Me!" Khalida chanted, holding her wand in the palm of her hand. Ignoring Moody was trying to get her to cheat by telling which path to take. Immediately her wand spun in her palm directing her towards the most direct path that would lead her towards the middle of the maze while the hedges behind her closed up and with it swallowing up all noise from the stands.
As the hedges swallowed up his granddaughter, the screens appearing and showing the paths Khalida and Cedric were taking, Monty moved towards the stands taking a seat beside his wife while sharing a troubled look with his brother as they both hoped and prayed the feeling they were getting was wrong, and that James and Lily would watch over their daughter from Death's Realm and protect her as much as they could.
Although Monty was beyond proud of her for ignoring Moody. He was starting to get suspicious of the man as he wasn't acting like the man he used to know). Vaguely he noticed Krum and Delacour entering the maze and the screens appearing showing what they were up to, but for Monty and everyone else who loved and cared for Khalida Potter they were only focused on what she was going through. They cheered as she successfully got passed a Boggart by using a Patronus Charm – the hearts of Monty, Charlus, Dorea, Farrah, Sirius, Aziz, Remus and Regulus clenching as a silver stag appeared as they knew James was protecting his daughter in the form of her Patronus - tripped the Boggart before Khalida used Riddikulus to finally banish it.
"GO MISCHIEF!!!!" Fred and George roared, jumping to their feet and clapping as loud as they possibly could. Hoping she would hear their cheers from within the maze and that it would give her strength to get through this maze. Everyone close to her how much the Dementors troubled her, Boggart or not. It would bother anyone after having their presence the previous year cause her to remember the deaths of her parents. The further she got into the maze the more the feeling that Monty and Charlus had increased, but so far Khalida has handled everything that was thrown at her perfectly.
She easily got passed a Sphinx, answering it's riddle correctly which opened up a pathway deeper into the maze. She then got passed Hagrid's Skrewts without any injury whereas Cedric was left with some mild burns, and she cleared the golden mist that would turn its victim upside down with a spell from the Peverell Grimoire. He didn't know what possessed him, but he looked over at the screen that was attached to Viktor Krum and saw him creeping up on Fleur Delacour with milky-white eyes. She didn't stand a chance when he attacked, knocking her unconscious with a Petrificus Totalus and a spell no one had heard of (apart from Karkaroff, if his smirk was anything to go by).
"HE'S BEEN BEWITCHED!!!! SOMEONE CAST THE IMPERIUS CURSE ON HIM!!!" Sirius roared, fear oozing from every semblance of his being as he jumped to his feet.
"N-Now, Lord Black... we do not know that!" Cornelius Fudge spluttered, his face a ruddy red.
"What more evidence do you need!?" Aziz demanded. "You need to cancel this tournament and pull them out."
"We will not be cancelling the tournament as I have already told Minerva back in February!" Fudge shouted annoyed.
"Then you will be the cause of someone getting killed!" Amos Diggory shouted.
"Someone has already cast the Imperius on the Durmstrang champion to attack the other champions! We just saw it! What more proof do you need!? My son is in that maze! Heiress Potter is in there! A fourteen-year-old witch, who never should've been allowed to compete! Especially as she never entered her own name!" Amos shouted, feeling disgusted that he worked with such people at the Ministry.
"The tournament will not be cancelled and that is the end of it!" Fudge insisted, returning to his seat just as they saw Krum kick Fleur's wand away from her and the brambles started to entwine around her. On the screen showing Khalida they saw her pause at Fleur's scream and look behind her, worry creasing her brow.
"No don't go towards her!" Draco complained, knowing exactly what his best friend would do, but that did nothing but increase the fear rising within him.
"Annd... she's running towards it!" Blaise sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose as the screen showed Khalida running in the direction Fleur's scream came from; while ignoring the looks he was getting from those from Beauxbâtons and Hermione Granger.
He didn't care what they thought he only cared for Khali, same as how they only cared for Fleur or that their school would win. Their hearts jumped into their throats as breaking twigs and thudding footsteps caused Khalida hide around the corner; however, the branches of the hedge behind her causing the bewitched Krum to point a wand into her face with a lethal expression shining gruesomely in the wand-light.
A tense moment as Khalida held her breath, the wand-light almost blinding her in the encroaching darkness as she slowly pointed her wand at Krum's legs, preparing to defend herself against her bewitched friend if it came down to it. But the moment passed, and Krum slowly lowered his wand from Khalida's face and stalked away down another path, leaving behind a terrified Khalida pressed against the hedges trying to calm down her racing heart. After getting herself under control Khalida ran down the path that Krum had come from, feeling he had been the cause of Fleur's screams even though he was not in control of his faculties.
"Fleur?" Khalida gasped, spotting her unconscious friend being dragged under the hedge by the vines and brambles.
"Fleur! Periculum!" Khalida shouted, sending the red sparks into the air for her friend. At once the hedges started shifting trying to close down that pathway, alarmed Khalida ran as fast as she could, pushing herself to the limit. Spotting an open pathway to her left that was about to close Khalida ran faster and dived through it landing with a thud that knocked the wind out of her and pain to shoot up her back and down her legs causing her to yell in pain. But that wasn't the only shocking revelation that was thrown onto her as it would seem this pathway had led her to a battle between Cedric and Krum.
"GET DOWN!!" Cedric yelled, hearing Khalida's yell of pain.
"STAY DOWN!!!" He yelled again when he noticed she was getting up to help him as Krum was throwing spells at him in his own language, so he had no idea what the spells were nor what they did if they were to hit either of them. "STUPEFY!!!" Cedric yelled, throwing Krum backwards knocking him out. Not wasting a moment Cedric ran up and kicked Krum's wand away from him and pointed his wand at the unconscious teenager, in the stands Amos gasped spotting the rage in his son's eyes and the fact he was about to curse an unconscious teenager until Khalida ran up to him.
"Cedric stop! He's bewitched!" Khalida hurriedly shouted, trying to push Cedric's wand arm down and away from their friend.
"GET OFF ME!!" Cedric yelled.
"HE'S BETWITCHED!!! HE'S BEWITCHED!!!" Khalida yelled once more. Finally it seemed her yells were getting through the rage that clouded the older teen's eyes as he lowered his wand and sent up the red sparks this time for Krum to be collected, once more, the hedges tried to close on them. The pair ran as fast as they could not looking where they were going until they dived into another path, at the other end of the pathway they spotted the Triwizard Cup.
Both were enthralled with the sight of it and the end of this tournament in sight until the hedge at the other end closed over that path, resulting in only being a tantalising image. As they stood there catching their breaths and planning their next move they never noticed the Acromantula creeping along the top of the hedge behind them until it picked Khalida up from behind her causing her to scream in fear.
"KHALI!!" Cedric's yells blended in with those in the stands who could only watch fearfully as the two teens tried to get the giant spider to release its grip on Khalida, that it until it's fang caught her shin of her right leg; another scream pulled from her lips as blood poured profusely from her leg and Acromantula venom entered her blood stream. "HOLD ON!!" Cedric yelled fearfully.
"RELASHIO!!!" Khalida yelled at the same time as Cedric causing the spider to drop Khalida, but she fell painfully onto her already injured leg that crumpled beneath her.
That didn't stop her, however. She pointed her wand at the spider that was advancing upon them and used the spell that she had used in her second year, again the same time as Cedric cast Stupefy.
"Arania Exume!" Khalida shouted, breathing heavily. Finally the spider was knocked unconscious and Cedric helped her over the tumbled legs of the creature. Again the race towards the cup started again – Cedric refusing to leave Khalida behind and helped her run - as the path ahead opened up, but halfway there vines sprung up from the ground and beneath the hedges and wrapped around Cedric's feet, but as he had been helping Khalida run, it sent the pair crashing to the ground.
"REDUCTO!" Khalida shouted, pointing her wand at the vines and brambles breaking their hold on Cedric. Acting quickly she pulled the rest of them off of him, freeing her friend.
"Th-thanks." Cedric panted, getting to his feet quickly, offering a hand to Khalida. "Some game this is. Huh?"
"Some game." Khalida muttered, a far away look in her eyes as the feeling within her was increasing as she feared what was going to happen next.
She didn't think her leg could take much longer as it was shaking as she stood there and if she wasn't leaning against the hedge while grasping Cedric's arm she would have crumpled once more as she guessed she had also sprained her ankle when the Acromantula dropped her, Merlin only knows what the venom was doing to her.
"GO!" Cedric yelled as the wind picked up and the branches started popping behind them. Despite the pain, Khalida ran-hobbled with Cedric towards the Cup, both pausing before it but neither taking it as the popping branches crept closer and the wind got stronger. "Go on, take it. You saved me, take it!" Cedric encouraged her but Khalida didn't take it.
"You saved me as well." She protested. "You take it!" to the stunned silence of the stands.
"You take it!"
"Together!?" Khalida decided.
"Together!" Cedric agreed.
"One, two...three!" Both chanted together and touched the Triwizard Cup but instead of the hedges melting away signalling the end of the Third Task it was revealed to everyone's horror that the Triwizard Cup had been turned into a Portkey as it whisked the two teens away from the safety of Hogwarts. It was silent as everyone tried to process what was happening until Amos and Amy Diggory and Fleamont exploded in fear and anger.
"WHERE IS MY SON!!!"
"WHERE IS MY GRANDDAUGHTER!!!"
"WE WARNED YOU MINISTER!!!" Farrah exploded in apoplectic rage, her eyes burning. But Sirius and Regulus only had their eyes on Mad-Eye Moody who was trying to slink away unnoticed amongst their family, Amos and his wife Amy, and the two missing teenagers' friends rounded on the Minister.
"STUPEFY!!!" Sirius Regulus shouted, pointing their wands at Moody. His eyes widened almost comically before the curses struck him, lifting him off of his feet with the force of the spells.
"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING!!!" FUDGE roared at the pair, but his and Severus' – who was about to make a scathing comment – eyes widened, and their words died in their throats as Moody's visage started to contorting and morphing until it melted away revealing an unconscious, sweaty Barty Crouch Jr.
"Expelliarmus! Incarcerous! Duro!" Minerva cast quickly, revealing the unconscious man of his – or rather Moody's wand – and bound him before turning the rope into unbreakable chains.
She would have him dealt with and find out where the real Alastor Moody was when she located her two missing students. Quickly she sent a Patronus Message to Madam Bones letting her know what was going on and that she needed to come to Hogwarts with a team of Aurors as there were two missing students.
"LOOK!" a student shouted, pointing to the two screens that were still up and running showing the Portkey had transported the two missing students to some sort of graveyard.
"You okay?" Cedric asked as they both stumbled to their feet.
"Yeah. You?" Khalida asked, her eyes rapidly trying to take in everything at once.
"Yeah." Cedric groaned, rolling his shoulders. "Where are we?" He asked confused, his wand hanging limply at his side. Khalida looked around only to freeze when she spotted a tombstone beside them. The weathered stone reading, 'TOM RIDDLE.'
"I've been here before." Khalida whispered to herself as Cedric moved away from her, dropping to his knees to assess the Triwizard Cup. "In a dream." Khalida muttered, fear and alarm rising within her like a volcano.
"It was a Portkey. Khali, the Cup is a Portkey." Cedric realised, while Khalida froze as she noticed a large black cauldron. Large enough for a man to sit or stand in.
"I've been here before, in a dream." Khalida muttered louder, coming closer to Cedric. "Cedric! We have to get back to the Cup. Now!" She said, alarmed. At the fear and alarm in her voice, Cedric quickly got to his feet hurrying over to her.
"What are you talking about?" Cedric asked, alarmed but also confused.
In the distance a creaking door could be heard as a large, balding man left the little house with something in his arms. A white abnormal-looking baby-type creature shrouded in black fabric. At his appearance a fire erupted beneath the cauldron that stood in front of the two teens and a pain unlike anything Khalida had ever felt erupted from the scar on her forehead causing her to yell out and fall to her knees blinded by the pain.
"KHALI!!" Cedric shouted worriedly, hurrying to her side. "KHALI! What is it?" he asked, dropping to his knees beside her.
"Get back to the Cup! Get out of here!" She insisted.
"Not without you!" Cedric refuted, climbing to his feet he stood in front of Khalida, his wand pointing at the two approaching them. Those watching at Hogwarts held their breath fearing what would happen to the two teens who had their whole life ahead of them. Their friends and family had tears falling down their cheeks as they prayed Amelia Bones and Aurors would get here soon, but they also couldn't help but wonder if they would make it in time.
That is until Remus and Sirius noticed who the man approaching their cub, threatening her was as he came into the light of the fire beneath the cauldron. A man they unfortunately knew all too well.
"That's PETTIGREW!!!" They shouted glaring at the Minister who had failed to find the man who ruined their life. Ruined the life of their cub.
"What does this mean for Khali and Cedric?" Neville asked fearfully, his eyes on the screens that showed Khali in unimaginable pain trying to convince Cedric to leave her, but his fellow Hufflepuff refused.
Instead he stood in front of Khalida wand pointed at Pettigrew.
"Nothing good." Pansy muttered fearfully. "Where the hell are the Aurors and Madam Bones?" She demanded, scared for her friend.

Chapter Seven, The Graveyard
~Hogwarts~
Minerva McGonagall tensed as she felt the wards tell her that Amelia Bones and a platoon of Aurors were at the gates, but she couldn’t pull her horrified eyes from the screen showing her two terrified students; one a fourteen-year-old witch begging her friend to leave her and save himself, but the other, a seventeen-year-old wizard valiantly refused to do so as it wasn’t in his nature and instead stood protectively in front of Khalida Potter with his wand pointing at Peter Pettigrew who had a deformed version of the Dark Lord in his arms.
“OH MERLIN!!!” Pomona exclaimed, she didn’t know if she felt more horrified or terrified at this moment. “Is…is that the…is that You-Know-Who?” She stammered, pointing a shaking hand to the deformed thing in Pettigrew’s arms.
“That’s preposterous!!” Fudge blustered. “Come now, Minerva, what sort of staff do you…”
“No she’s right.” Severus injected, his lips pursed and his pallor taking on a sicklier white appearance, stopping Fudge in his tracks. At once everyone’s attention turned to Pettigrew and the thing he was holding causing terror to surge to a new level; they had all been more focused on Khalida and Cedric.
“Horace, please go and let Madam Bones and her platoon of Aurors into the grounds.” Minerva requested ceasing the terror where it sat causing a charged tension to fill the air. “Then, please hand her a Veritaserum from what is in stock and tell her she may use the Quidditch changing rooms for her interrogation. We need to find our students, and quickly!”
“Of course, Headmistress.” Horace Slughorn agreed, hurrying off to let them into the grounds; but it was too late. Cedric’s voice pulled everyone back to the screens.

~At the graveyard~
“Who are you and what do you want?” Cedric demanded heatedly, pointing his wand at Pettigrew and the deformed Voldemort. A fierce glare fixed on them.
“Kill the spare!” Voldemort’s high-cold voice ordered that everyone who was watching and had heard it from the First War were frozen in place, while all of their hearts had stopped as they wondered who he meant and in fact dreaded the answer.
“Avada Kedavra!” Pettigrew growled out, pointing Voldemort’s wand at Cedric.
“NO!!! CEDRIC!!!!” Khalida screamed in fear and terror as all she could do was watch as the sickly green light that had been in her nightmares struck Cedric with such a force that it threw him back several feet until he landed beside the Cup. Sobs tearing from her throat with thick tears tracking down the mud on her cheeks as she struggled to comprehend the violence that had torn her friend from her. She felt like she was breaking apart from the force of it.
“DO IT! NOW!!” Voldemort ordered once again. A dark look appeared on Pettigrew’s face as if he were relishing the fear he was inflicting on Khalida, a smirk twisting up his lips as he dropped the deformed Voldemort into the cauldron before he approached Khalida.

~Hogwarts~
“GET AWAY FROM HER!!!” Sirius, Regulus and Remus shouted apologetic with rage, over the loud uncontrollable sobs coming from Amos and Amy Diggory who were trying to be comforted and led away by Pomona Sprout. The Three men’s shouts pulled everyone’s attention back to the only remaining screen left just as Pettigrew, staring at her with a complete lack of remorse, forced Khalida up and pinned her to a grave by making the grave’s statue come alive and hold her there tightly.
“Come. Come away, you don’t need to see anymore.” Pomona tried to coax the grieving parents with a tight voice that broke several times, her tone and face full of complete sympathy and empathy for them.
“No. No. No, w-we need to know Khali gets out alive.” Amy Diggory said in between sobs.
“Amy.” Amos tried to argue in between his own sobs.
“C-Cedric would want us to, Amos. You know he would, Khali was his friend.” Amy argued, glaring at her husband as if daring him to argue with her on this.
“Of course, love. You’re right.” Amos agreed, taking his wife into his arms, but as he turned back to the screen, he didn’t have a good feeling for Khali as he doubted Barty Crouch Jr would give away her location until he was satisfied his plan had been carried out. And by then it could be too late.

~In the graveyard~
“Bone of the father, unwillingly given. You will revive your son.” Pettigrew chanted, carrying out the ritual as the grave at Khalida’s feet cracked and dust with one single bone flew out of the grave and into a bubbling cauldron turning the concoction a blinding white. “Bone of the servant, willingly sacrificed.” He continued, holding his own hand, with the missing finger, above the cauldron and proceeded to cut off his hand with the wand; letting out a blood-curdling, painful scream. The minute the hand hit the concoction it turned an almost luminescent red and the pain built in Khalida’s scar to the point she could barely see and felt sick.
“And blood of the enemy, forcibly taken!” Pettigrew growled, between clenched teeth stalking towards Khalida.
“No. No, no.” Khalida pleaded, trying to pull her arm away from him but she couldn’t even move an inch. She screamed as the dagger sliced a deep cut on the length of her right forearm, from the scar from the Basilisk to just above her wrist. She screamed again as he dug the dagger into her arm until it was slick with blood, and only then did he pull it away. Resting the dagger on the edge of the cauldron, Pettigrew used the wand to make all of the blood drop into the concoction until the dagger was clean.
“The Dark Lord shall rise…again!” Pettigrew finished with a smirk, pleased at Khalida’s screams rising in the background as the potion was working.
The cauldron lit on fire with a shrouded black mist swirling in the air, around the deformed Voldemort as it grew until he was back into his old body once again. The second he touched the ground the mist enveloped him until he was clothed in his black robes. Lord Voldemort has returned!

~ Hogwarts~
At Hogwarts, a horrified tenseness filled the air. It was so silent you could hear a Knut drop or a tree fall within the Forbidden Forest. They simply couldn't believe that Lord Voldemort had returned, that he had used Khalida Potter’s blood to do so. Some feared what was going to happen now that he was back and who could stop him as they wrote Khalida off as dead already. While others – like Fudge – simply wanted to bury their heads in the sand and deny that he and a lot of other witnesses had seen the Dark Lord Voldemort return.
However, Khalida’s loved ones were beyond terrified for her and were trying to figure out how they could get her out of there before something happened to her. It was this moment that Monty and Charlus knew their magic had been warning them about and this was, unfortunately, just the beginning. Even Madam Bones, who had entered a few moments prior to ask for Viktor Krum for a statement had been frozen where she stood as she saw what Khalida was made to endure, helpless and trapped as her parents’ killer rose again in front of her, aided by a friend of her parents;’ she knew that was going to be a struggle to swallow.
However, she feared whether she and her Aurors would get to the girl in time or if they would be bringing two bodies back to their families. It was at that moment that steel surged through her magic as she turned and headed back to the changing rooms, Viktor Krum’s statement could wait, be damned on protocol, they had a fourteen-year-old girl to find; and soon. Not because of what some proclaimed her as, but because she was a child and her family deserved to have her returned to them alive; the Potters have lost enough and would not lose another member if she could help it!
