Easing Pain

Summary:

Force exhaustion can cause a multitude of issues, but Obi-Wan's least favourite is the severe headache.

Work Text:

     Everything hurt.

Moving hurt. Opening his eyes hurt. Reaching out to the force in any way drove daggers through his mind.

Obi-Wan kept his head tucked under the blanket away from the light, sounds muffled by the thin fabric. He knew he had pushed his abilities and he'd do it again. The shinies were all alive and the droids were dealt with. The only injury was his exhaustion. It would go away with rest.

And he'd have no issue resting if his head stopped hurting.

The blanket shifted and Obi-Wan curled his fingers tight around what was still in reach. Fingers gently ran up the back of his neck and around the edges of his hair. It didn't hurt, in fact, some of the light pressure felt nice. Even without the force or opening his eyes, he knew it was Cody.  The medics had, with severe frowns and much complaining agreed that he would rest best in his quarters. Cody had promised to come as soon as wrap-up was handled.

Light pressure swiped across his hairline and across his forehead, easing the tension, tracing some invisible pattern. The hands pulled away and Obi-Wan made a noise of complaint, reaching out slowly to bring Cody back. Plastoid knocked and shuffled, the familiar sounds of stacking off to the other side of the room. Soft footsteps walked back over and Cody took his hand.

Obi-Wan felt Cody step over him. The bed shifted slightly towards the wall as Cody settled in the small space. Obi-Wan wiggled closer, moving slowly, small movements, trying not to cause any further pain. Cody's arms moved around him working with his small movements to ease him onto his chest, wrapping his arms around him.

Cody's hands returned to rubbing gently at the base of his skull. Obi-Wan rested a hand on his chest hoping Cody knew how much he appreciated him. During battles when he respected Obi-Wan to follow his plans and trusted him enough to speak up when he knew a better strategy. Appreciated the effort he made to assure Obi-Wan was safe, even if he didn't like the efforts to get him back into armor. Appreciated that Cody was willing to lay with him and help with the headache.

Cody shifted and kissed his forehead. Obi-Wan tilted his head up, too far to return the kiss, but far enough now to hear Cody's heart. Each beat strong and steady and muffled just enough to not aggravate his headache. Obi-Wan let out a deep breath and felt the tension ease. He had no doubt that Cody would be here when he woke.

No doubt that he'd be here the next time as well.

     "Sleep, Obi-Wan," Cody whispered.
