Win, after win, after win, you were non-stop! You didn't let anyone get in your way! Everyone loved your presence in the arena, Including a certain crystal loving witch.
At the time she didn't see you as anything other than competition, until you guys were paired up for a match.
It was a rare occasion to have ranked events between the legends due to a lot of the legends getting way too competitive and becoming a danger to everyone around them. So to avoid injuries, Ranked events are planned and played two times a month. And boy were you excited.
Before your Apex debut, you were an avid watcher just like everyone else and you were hyped to finally be able to participate in these ranked games…
“AJ!” you screamed running around looking for your pink haired friend. She had some gossip to tell you about the upcoming ranked game! Something about your teammate and what not, you don't know the basics but you didn't care, you just wanted to win!
“Woah careful there chica!” you bumped into the green speedster “Octavio! Where’s Che?!” You quickly asked the startled man. “Jeez what happened to ‘hi! How are you?’ Or ‘have you eaten?” He said in a high pitched mocking tone.
“Ok damn drama queen, how are you?” You asked playing along.
“I’m good, thanks!” He replied as he walked away.
“HOLD IT SPEED DEMON!” You quickly grabbed the chuckling man. “Where is she?” You asked with a pleading tone.
“I think she’s still with Ramya in the living room, I don’t know though but you should hurry ‘cause we're dropping soon.” He said with a small smile “what she do now…” he said while giving you a side eye basically asking if there’s any drama.
“ Chismoso… ” you say with a sly smile while walking away. “That's no way to treat your elders! mala!” he yells at your laughing figure.
You're only a year younger than those two, but god do they love using that response. Now, time to find that pink haired legend.
“10 minutes till drop.” the voice over the intercom blared, You turned the corner of one of the halls in the drop ship finally reaching the common area spotting the pink haired girl on the couch laughing at a joke the crazy mechanic said while nudging a certain moth man.
“Che!” you said frantically rushing to her. “Tell me now!” you said dropping to your knees grasping her legs while giving her puppy dog eyes. “Well well well if it isn't my melody~” she said in a sickly sweet tone.
Ajay has a tendency to call you by your Legend name when she has the upper hand on something. “Haha funny, a new one” you said while giving her a dry chuckle. “You know why im here….don’t play stupi-” “seven minutes till drop.” the intercom blared interrupting you. “C’mon Che we’re dropping soon!” you said, grasping your hands..
“I was just messing with you! You youngins are so sensitive.” she said while laughing to herself “your teammate’s the newbie.” she blurted out suddenly. “Oh ok. And?""and what?” “Who else??” I asked confused with her response. “Oh, nah that's it. That's your team this month babe”
“Only her?....one singular person….haha.” you thought to yourself. I’m screwed. “five minutes till drop. Please assume your spots on the drop pad.” the voice said. “Good luck melody!” Ajay said in a cheery voice “you'll need it~” she said as she walked away. “This bitch..she's gonna beat my ass” you thought to yourself.
Who cares? You’ll still win! And you’ll win that 12k Rank prize and you’ll get all the publicity you’ll need! You can already see it, “unbelievable duo clears game!” being in the headlines, Now you’re pumped.
“AHHH!” you scream trying to get that nervous feeling away. “GAH!” you heard a voice behind you yelp. You quickly turned flushed with embarrassment “i thought everyone was in the drop pad! My gosh- I'm sorry!” you said quickly at the tall woman behind you. “I didn’t mean to scare you! I was just trying to get the jitters out haha!” you continue to blurt out, You should shut up now.
Awkward silence fills the room as you stare at the flushed woman before you. “I should go,” you said as you quickly turned to escape the awkward encounter. “Hey wait!” you heard the woman behind you exclaim while running to catch up with you. “You’re melody, right?” she quipped. “Oh? Uh yeah that's me, nice to meet- wait!” the realization hit you, This is your teammate. “Oh my god, Catalyst right? I’m so sorry for scaring you…” you quickly apologize again “no no its ok” she giggles.
…Oh…that was cute
You thought as you stared at her only snapping back into reality because you almost crashed into one of crypto’s work benches. She giggled again grabbing your arm to pull you in place, “you ok, Melody?”
“Why the fuck she say my name like that?!” you thought to yourself, lowkey freaking out because you're sure she said your name in a different tone….god you're so delusional. “Im fine babe, thanks” you said in a flirtish tone towards the raven haired woman.
Hey, Just because you’re awkward at times doesn’t mean you don’t have moves. The woman flushed at the name, letting go of your arm while walking away. “We should get ready, we're dropping soon...” she said as she cleared her throat.
“He he he…still got it” you thought, giving yourself a mental pat on the back. Maybe this ranked game will be fun! You thought while skipping onto your spot on the drop pad next to the raven woman.
Just like every assumption made in history, you were wrong. This was probably one of the most awkward matches you’ve ever had in your short time as a legend.
“To your left!” you shot your rifle knocking Revenant who lunged at your healing teammate. “Skeleton almost got you babe!” you said through coms. Silence filled your ear piece “haha…nice” you said trying to ease the tension filling the air between you guys.
You just stared at your teammate through your scope, wondering if she's ok. “Maybe I should stop calling her babe…” you thought while looking at her doing her elegant finisher on the robotic skeleton you took down. You were keeping an eye out for his team, they surely have to be nearby, unless he was foolish enough to drop alone.
“Gosh…what if she's still not over her ex or something?” you thought to yourself as you headshotted someone from an enemy team. “That has to be it. Or am I just weird to her??” you thought to yourself as you continued to snipe a fallen legend, quickly reloading your G7 with frustration. Fiddling with the trigger as your thoughts go wild. “Why am i losing my mind over a woman i JUST met, this isn’t like me”
*click* you flinch to the feel of a wingman at your head. “Get up, nice and slowly.” the deep feminine voice demands. “ Bangalore…” I sigh. “Ok, ok, let me get up first before you blast my brains off.”
You and Catalyst were actually doing an amazing job. You were the kill leader with 5 kills under your belt, catalyst had the higher damage between you guys though and boy did She have a way with the C.A.R.
But because of the high rank, you guys have a target the size of Boreas on your back. And Bangalore tends to hunt the kill leaders down for fun... And that's why she's here right now, with her wingman on your cranium and looting your shit.
Catalyst was still looting while you were being mugged. There were only three squads left and you didn’t want to throw away a glorious duo win like this. They were distracted with your loot, so you decided to risk it. As unnoticeable as possible, you bring your finger to the com located on your right ear.
“Babe…on me.” you whispered as quietly as possible. A couple of seconds pass, the shuffle of bangalore and pathfinder going through your things comes to a halt,
*BANG*
Bangalore hits the floor as a bullet breaks her armor. You quickly slide and dive off the building you were on, bolting it to Catalyst who was in the building across from you, scared shitless as Bangalore's smoke screen hits you.
“HA HA you are a lifesaver!” you scream into your com as you place your super sonic speakers at the entrance of the building, hoping those dumbasses trigger it when they come in through the door and stuns ‘em.
Swiftly running up the stairs to where Catalyst is cooped up in, you place your sound cannon by the elevator ready to use it when the remaining legends pull up.
“Are you ok?!” you feel her hands grasp your shoulders, turning you around and frantically grabbing you to see if you need any type of medkit.
“Damn babe,” you start grabbing her hands “you can touch me all you want later, lets just win first ok?” you say with a wink watching her face flush as your words finally hit her, taking a breath in and turning around, taking her post to snipe whoever, mainly bangalore and that smiley robot and whoever their third is.
“No but for real though, thanks for the save babe! I woulda been toast!” “Can you stop calling me babe!?” The raven haired woman quickly turned around, frustration written all over her face.
“O-oh…uhm…i’m sorry.” you quickly apologized, scared at the thought of offending her all this time. “I didn’t mean to offend you- I was just joking!” you quickly tried to save yourself.
She sighs, while rubbing the bridge of her nose with her fingers. “Just as I thought…” she said more to herself than to you. “Just don’t let it happen again…okay?” she said, a tinge of sadness lacing her voice as she said those words.
“Ring closing. Round three.” you heard the voice from the speaker blast through the building, startling you both. “Hey only two squads! That's easy…no?” you said to the tall woman before you hoping to cheer her up in some way.
*BANG* shots rang through the air, a fight between the two other squads broke out. Softly pushing past Catalyst, you settle your G7 on the edge of the building and scan your area, looking for any sign of life other than the bullets flying.
A flare of green can be seen weaving and dodging through the buildings of World's edge, “octane.” you say to yourself as you aim towards him.
Quickly you spot his squad. He’s with Pathfinder and Bangalore, this’ll be fun. “Let's go, now!” you quickly tell the woman as you re-equip your sound cannon ready to run towards the fight.
Shots ring out again as the two squads go head to head. Quickly setting up in the building next to the fight your plans set in motion. “Ok this is what we’ll do. I'm gonna use my sound cannon on the squad by the pillars ok?” you point to the gray building that’s located in the middle of fragment west. “And then you’ll place your ultimate by the edge and I'll place my sonic speakers by the corners so they’re trapped. Ok?” you say ready to snipe the closest team. “Gotchu.” she simply said while heading to the front door, barricading it.
You began to shoot at a lonely Vantage, knocking her in the process. You kinda felt bad knocking the poor kid at times but, oh well, it builds character!
Reloading your weapons you speak into your coms, “go now!” you said, putting your plan in motion. swiftly throwing your sonic speakers at the edges of the doorless building, you watch as Catalyst places her dark veil towards the squad, successfully trapping them and stunning them with the veil.
“Im rushing in!” you say as you quickly rush into the building looking for the enemy team.
“Ring closing. Final Round.” the voice in the arena blares again making your adrenaline rush. “How's your match so far chica!” Tavi screams as he runs behind you trying to shoot you, running into one of your sonic speakers getting stunned in the process. Seeing him tumble onto the floor, you quickly ran over ready to wipe him. “It's actually going really good,” you place your R-301 onto his chest “i’ll tell you after the match, ‘kay?” you say with a smile as you empty a clip into his chest.
“The champion has been eliminated.” the voice said, “bummer” you thought to yourself as you ran towards Catalyst who killed bloodhound, vantage’s teammate. Hmm so they were with revenant.
Smoke covers your body, as the ground rumbles with an airstrike inbound. “Run!” you yell at Catalyst who runs towards the building you guys were hiding in previously. Two squads, us and them, a simple 2v2.
“Hey, my ultimate is ready!” Catalyst calls out to you, “on three, ok?” she nods. You sigh, “I so deserve a beer after this.” you say as you count down. “Now!” you scream, running out the back door as you throw a sonic speaker towards the squad entering your building, stunning them. Catalyst shoots at their disoriented bodies, cracking pathfinder in the process.
“Now!” I scream at her as she places her ultimate covering the main door, trapping them in. you quickly knock pathfinder, while Catalyst chases Bangalore out the building. That lady’s tough. Using a quick shot on Pathfinder, you quickly catch up to Catalyst as you see Bangalore using a finisher on her. Without hesitation, you use your sound cannon successfully blinding and disorienting the soldier. Reloading your gun, you empty a clip into the woman, knocking her.
“We have a winner.” the voice plays, calling the match to a close. Standing there sweating, the win didn't hit you until the raven haired woman got up to grab you in happiness, bouncing around with you in her grasp to celebrate the win.
“These are your champions” The voice through the intercom continued. “We won! We won!” she screamed in your face, a smile slowly came onto your face. With her face this close, you had to fight the urge to kiss her then and now. Legends were prohibited from having open relationships with each other, no matter what. You’re only allowed to date each other in private, just so fans can continue to fantasize relationships with the current legends. Fans pay your bills after all.
You quickly hug her, returning the gesture. Smiling, you waited for the drop ship to pick you guys up to take you back to the dorms, hand in hand.
Finally on the ship, rounds of applause fill the ship. “Well well well the newbies sure put us in our places huh? Good job sista!” you heard the loud voice coming from Gibby praising you and your teammate. “Thanks big guy! Pssh what can i say, we make a good team!” you say as you drape an arm around the quiet woman. She’s still new here, so she’s still a bit shy around the other legends, mainly the loud ones like Gibby.
Noticing her discomfort from the noisy room, you decide to finally end the little award ceremony the legends were giving you guys. “Okay guys! Time to wrap it up!” you clap your hands trying to disperse the group surrounding you guys. “Me and Cat need to get ready for our after game interview, and I am tired!” you joke as you pull the witch towards the rest area of the drop ship (each legend has a place to sleep on the drop ship for long distance travels).
“Phew!” you said, wiping the invisible sweat from your brow. “What a win am I right?” you exclaimed towards the woman standing awkwardly in your room. “You can sit haha” you giggle at her actions. “You ok? I saw your face around the others and I just wanted to make sure you were comfy y’know?” you explain to her, trying not make things weird. “If you’re tired you can sleep on my bed, I know your dorm room isn't ready yet so it's fine. I don't want you napping on the living room couch!” you joke. Quickly grabbing a towel, “I'm gonna go and wash my face, I feel grimy. Make yourself at home!” you said as you walked out the room towards the small bathroom, whistling a tune to yourself.
