Chapter Text
"Everyone please sit in your seats according to the chart I carefully created! Make sure you have your snacks and have gone to the restroom before the movie starts! But most importantly, please be quiet as the movie plays!"
"You're the one not being quiet!" came the collective shout from the class of 1A at their student rep, annoyed with his constant stream of shouts and reminders.
That being said, several members of the class did rise from their seats and make their way to the entrance, indeed needing to use the bathroom before the movie started to play. Movie night had become a staple for class 1A. As a nice tradition and a treat for the class whenever they survive a grueling test. Everyone in the class usually attended, even the likes of Bakugo, who was never one for social gathering of, well, anybody. Tonight was a special exception, as the movie playing was one most of the class was looking forward to.
'All Fright', a horror movie based on the previous number one hero, All Might. It was announced last year and the reaction was mixed amongst the population, and the trailers coming out hadn't helped in stopping the growing divide. Based on the trailers, it seems as though the All Might in the movie gets affected by a villain's quirk and slowly goes insane. Numerous other heroes were represented in the movie as well, like Endeavor and Eraserhead. With heroes like that it would seem simple in taking down an evil All Might, but you never know the direction the director might take it.
"I hope this movie is good, it'll stink if it turns out bad. That means we wasted our monthly free movie," Uraraka said as she nibbled on some black licorice, courtesy of the theater. See, Nezu had struck a deal with the theater closest to UA, each class was allowed to see one movie for free every month, with free food as well and their own auditorium. None of the students were sure how Nezu managed to pull such a deal off, but with free food and entertainment, none of them were going to look a gift horse (or in this case, a gift rat-bear-dog thing) in the mouth.
"It's a horror movie about All Might… suffice to say, I don't have high hopes. The only hero who should get a horror movie adaptation is my father," Todoroki bitterly spat out. He understood All Might was still regarded as the most famous hero ever, but to have a horror movie made about him seemed rather insulting. Despite Endeavor improving himself and becoming a better person, a small part of Todoroki would never forgive him for what he's put his family through.
"Tokoyami, you're the resident horror movie expert-analyst-thingy. How do you think this is gonna go?" Kaminari asked, turning to look at the bird headed member of the group as she sat in her chair, arms folded comfortably across her chest.
"Based on the trailers and previously made movies… I feel as though it'll be mediocre at best. Perhaps a cliche plot twist at the end, subpar CGI, with decent acting that'll be the only good thing about this movie. That being said, it's probably going to be a 'so bad it's good' type of horror movie." Tokoyami nodded confidently, with most of the class staring at her in awe.
"What about you, Midoriya? You're the resident All Might nutcase, how do you think it'll be?" Sero asked as he returned in his seat to glance back at the emerald-haired boy.
"Oh, I'd say it'll be worse than that recent Snipe action movie." He gave a firm nod at his prediction, his gut telling him this was such a waste for a free movie. "Turning All Might into a villain, fucking despicable," Izuku muttered to Tokoyami's immediate left, surprising her as she wasn't accustomed to the local cinnamon roll cussing.
"Ooooo, someone seems pissed off. Think he'll flick that finger of his and destroy the screen out of anger?" Dark Shadow asked in Tokoyami's mind. Dark Shadow was chaotic, she loved destruction, and most notably loved it when Midoriya was the one doing the destroying.
"Dark Shadow, that's highly inappropriate to say about our classmate. All Might is Midoriya's most cherished hero, it's understandable he'd be agitated over this."
"Yeah, but goody two shoes having a bit of a dark side? Isn't that you're kind thing? Ya know, 'revelry in the darkness' and whatever?"
"Whatever you're insinuating, I'm not appreciating right now. Now shut it or no popcorn for you."
Dark Shadow whimpered in submission, causing Tokoyami to nod to herself as a job well done before the lights overhead darkened, and the light of the screen came to life.
Now, it was showtime.
(One hour and 40 minutes later)
"That movie was so cool!" Kaminari exclaimed as he and the other 19 members of class 1A made their way towards UA. Their movie had just ended mere moments ago and they were excitedly talking about their favorite scenes and moments. "Dude, did you see All Might punching that giant hole through Mt. Lady's chest? That was insane!"
"Not as crazy as him ripping Endeavor's head off! That was so manly!"
"And, perhaps my favorite scene," Todoroki added, causing some of the others to laugh.
"I don't know about you all, but I feel as though my prediction was spot on for the most part. The actors did a decent enough job and kept me mildly entertained, plot was predictable, CGI was better than I expected. Still, an All Might horror movie? Is Hollywood really that desperate?"
"I didn't like it at all, it was shameful and just riding the All Might hype train. There are far better horror movies out there, like Ghost Following Me, Haunted By The Dark, even Bat Of Hell was better!" Izuku shook his head disappointingly, which caused Tokoyami to raise an eyebrow at him.
"Midoriya, I'm surprised you're so prolific when it comes to horror movies. I mean no offense by this but… you don't really seem the type," she tried saying as non-offensively as possible, causing Izuku to chuckle.
"No offense taken, I love horror movies, good and bad. It can be nice to see how far directors can and will go, ya know?" he asked, causing her to nod. "Like, I love the scene in The Thing where Copper gets his arms chomped off by the fake Norris' chest mouth. Very iconic if you ask me. Plus the ending where you don't really know if they succeed or not? It's amazing."
"Indeed. Some directors can go a bit too far even for my taste, but to see them bring such fascinating creations to life is astounding." She smiled, happy she had someone at last who seemingly had the same level of interest and love for horror movies as she did. Sure some of her friends like Kyoka and Mezo enjoyed horror movies as well, but Midoriya's love and appreciation seemed to be on a whole-nother level. "Say, the theater is having a horror movie marathon in a few weeks. Would you like to accompany me? They're some of the older classics which I'm sure you'd enjoy."
"Oh! Sure, I'd love to go with you Tokoyami! Thank you for the invite." He smiled brightly and happily, and she gave a small one in return.
The rest of the class stayed silent throughout the interaction, with many giving one another looks and most having a singular thought.
Had… Had Tokoyami just asked Midoriya out on a date?!
