Chapter Text

Watching my surroundings seemed uneventful until I caught sight of something jumping off the cliff on the edge of the cliff top, three more small blackened blurs followed after causing me to furrow my brows till I returned my attention to my sister as she talked to her new roommate.

“So give me the scoop. Who’s here? Besides us that is.” I bit my lip trying to hide the smile as it began to creep up, the music pulsing through me while I barely swayed my hips, “you two enjoy and I will be right back,” Kate and my sister smiled at me as I walked off for a few seconds.

“Okay, so the first thing you have to know is that Aaron Abbot is a prick. Treats girls like dirt.” Glancing back I listen in to the conversation and watch Kate as she points towards the guy standing a ways away up on the dune. He stood with a fake curly headed blonde girl.

Glancing away for a moment while my sister was busy looking around I strode forward searching, I hadn’t walked too far away when I came across what I was looking for. Crouching down to pick up the spiny lizard, it hissed and flared at me but relaxed in my hand after it jumped up onto my palm. I turned around giddily as the feeling of overwhelming anxiety left me, spotting my sister and Kate back where I left them.
Just as I began to walk back towards them a guy in the distance yelled out, making me flick my eyesight over for a second, “yo, Caleb.”

“They’re here,” I had just come up to them as Kate spoke excitedly, “who’s here? What did I miss?” Kate turned away waving with a smile while ignoring me, but I guess Sarah and I were both curious about who the four boys walking towards us were, “Who are they?” I barely looked at them instead looking down at the lizard in my hands, “The Sons of lpswich.”

I snorted as they walked up causing my sister to smack my arm, “Hey, Kate.” We watched her hop over to the boys when they got closer, “Caleb.” I forgot she said she was in a relationship until she ran up to a longer haired brunette guy and hugged him, kissing each other, “Hi! You’re late.”

Sarah had thrown her hand over my eyes to shield me from the couples pda and I frowned in response, “I had a thing with the family. Who’s this?” I had only just smacked her hand off of me when we were gestured to, “My new roommate and her sister. Sara, Y/m this is Pogue Parry, Tyler Simms…Reid…”

She was interrupted as the blonde guy introduced himself to my sister, “Garwin. Reid Garwin. Good evening.”

“Good evening,” I simply sat and caressed the spine of my lizard as they conversed, a brow raised at the pair, ”you know, Sarah’s my grandmother’s name. You kind of remind me of her.” Grimacing at Reid's words I frowned, looking at the other boys as another began to talk and introduce himself,“Caleb Danver's. And you don’t bring my grandmother to mind in any way.”

I hadn’t noticed that I was being watched by Kate’s boyfriend until he voiced his concern though… “You know you’re holding a poisonous lizard right?” He seemed weary of it as he held onto Kate while my sister freaked out next to me, jumping back a smidge as if it would spit acid at any second, “oh my god, really? Y/n, Put it down!”

I raised my face to my new found audience, matching her stare with one of my own, “no.”

She scoffed at me, “What do you mean no?! It’s poisonous!” I looked at it before breaking out in a smile, “Come on this lil’ guy, he’s so sweet though and he’s cute.” The boys were watching me curiously as I tried to convince her with my smile, the smile however fell into a look similar to disappointed annoyance, “sheesh fine, maybe.”

She gave me a look when I said maybe and I returned it with a pleading face, “put it down, you can’t have any more pets, and it's poisonous.” I just looked at her with a slight pout, “Well I for one think she should be allowed to keep it.”

“Why thank you.” He gave me a wink as I smiled at him while Sarah gave me a look once again, “it is literally hissing right now.” I shrugged at her as the blonde came up to me and pet the critter in my hand, “he seems harmless enough,” She sighed with a smile breaking out on her face. “Hey, Caleb.” The curly haired girl from the hill came up and hopped right in front of him interrupting the conversation and his watchful stare directed towards my sister, “Kira.”

“How was your summer?” His answer was less than vague and not even an answer at all, “Um…” It was like he could only see my sister, like she was all he could think about, entranced if you will.
Kira turned to see Sarah and gave her a nasty look paired with a fake smile, “I’m Kira.”

“Sarah.”

Kira had a disgusting aura around her and I could definitely feel the smugness roll off of her as she laughed and spit at Sarah, “oh, right. From the Boston public. Tell me, how does one go about getting into Spenser from, a public?”

My head shot upward towards the girl instantly instead of just watching her from the corner of my eye, “excuse me?” She looked at me with a scoff as Sarah put her hand on my chest stopping me from taking a step forward, “why don’t you give it a rest, Kira?”

She turned slightly before another guy hopped in front of Caleb, kicking up sand as he tried not to fall subtly, “why don’t you give it a rest?”

Sarah had walked me back a few steps till I was standing right in front of the blonde called Reid, “I don’t want any trouble, Aaron.” The guy gave him a nasty smirk as he nodded to Caleb, “I’m sure you don’t.” His little groupie even made a comment as the curly bitch glared at me with a smirk, “You posers make me wanna puke.”

“Is that right?” Caleb was only trying to keep the peace but it wasn’t working so well, “hey, let it go.” Aaron had stepped up closer to Caleb and spoke as he gestured to the girl with him, “I think you owe Kira an apology.”

I let out a scoff as I stared her down, she bucked up and stepped towards me a little before giving me a look, stopping at Caleb’s words “actually, I think Kira owes Sarah the apology.” Aaron smiled, nodding as he wiped at his chin until he took a quick glance behind him and shoved Caleb backwards, suddenly the guy my sister and Kate were looking at earlier had jumped in between the two boys stopping an imminent fight with taunting words, “you were being kind of bitchy.”

She scoffed at him as well before flicking him off and my anger got the best of me for a second as I stepped forward making her look at me, only stopping when suddenly the little groupie puked all over the Aaron's back with projectile vomit that also happened to splash onto the bitchy girl next to them, “Disgusting!”

“You idiot!” I let out a giggle as the blonde behind me laughed and slung his arm over my shoulders.

Chapter Text

A guy at the dj booth used a microphone to get everyone's attention as the music stopped abruptly by his hand, “guys, Dylan just called. He said he saw three cop cars headed this way on Old Dell Road.”

Suddenly everyone started running as I turned around, Reid grabbing my hand as all the boys laughed and we began to jog off, I had an intense feeling that he made that guy vomit back there but I let the thought go as we ran off into the woods, making sure to safely set the lizard on a rock before we disappeared into the dark spooky forest.

Eventually we all slowed down to a walk as we neared the location of the hidden car lot where everyone had parked, “you need a ride?” Caleb had asked my sister, while they walked ahead of us, I already knew the answer of course as Kate answered for her, “no, Sarah drove us out here.”

“Will I see you back at the dorms?” It was cute watching Kate and her boyfriend flirt I guess, “It’s getting late. I’m just gonna crash, call me in the morning?”

I groaned as I realized what would be going on in our dorm tonight, “please tell me we aren't having a weird sleepover where we talk about nail polish and who has that fattest ass tonight.” Sarah had picked up a small rock and tossed it at me with a playful laugh as I smiled, Kate taunting me with the idea that we could always just have a pillow fight instead.

The guy from before popped up near us after a few minutes of walking and started getting closer, only to talk to my sister as he glanced at the group of boys accompanying us, “can I have a lift?” My sister nodded, replying, “no problem.”

“Hey clothes?” I nodded at Sarah's words after she knocked her hand into my shoulder, moving to strip the shirt I borrowed off as she did the same with my jacket. I swore I could feel Reid's eyes on me as I slipped my jacket over my tank top right before we reached the parking area.

“Let’s ride,” I cracked my knuckles with a laugh as I jogged over to my bike ready to leave, “holy shit, nice,” I nodded with a smirk on my face as I swung my leg over the side hopping onto the seat as I slid my helmet on, Sarah's voice soft as she bid her goodbyes, “good night.”

“See you at the dorm, be careful y/n.”

I nodded as they boys all nudged each other in the rushed moment, “hey, guys, let’s go. We gotta go before the cops come.” I watched everyone get into their respective cars as I waited for my sister to start her car.
“Sarah wants you, man.” The four boys had hopped into the large car and were talking, “That’s bullshit.”

My sister was trying to start her car as Caleb watched from the back seat, “Oh, now. Don’t be jealous, Reid.” He only snorted, “Nah, got my eye on another sweetheart.” She gave up and opened the door yelling out, “My car won’t start!” He rolled the window down and stuck his arm out as I watched, “Hop in with us.” She didn’t like the idea of leaving her car, “I can’t just leave it here!”

I lifted my viser and yelled at her quickly so we could all get out of here, “I got it!” I hopped off as I Jogged over quickly pulling the hood up, all I did was tap the engine before a green spark shot out followed by a yellow one, “Start er’ up,” I closed the hood not looking up until I turned towards my bike, “Holy shit, thank’s y/n.”

I flipped my viser down as I hopped back on my bike cranking it on as my eyes glowed through my helmet as I watched her drive off. I didn’t notice the guys watching me as I drove off behind her. Behind us I noticed from my mirrors that they switched drivers as they pulled out behind me, their eyes on my back as I sped off fast dodging trees as I skirted off in a different direction.

I wasn’t lost but it definitely took me a few minutes to get to the asphalt road. It was long and winding around the surrounding forest, and somehow I had pulled out of the forest right behind Sarah's car. I followed her all the way back to the academy knowing that I’d probably take hours to get there on my own if I didn’t, “I can’t wait to go to sleep.”

I had pulled into the parking lot behind my sister and our new friends, Chase the new guy, ended up walking us all the way inside and up to our dorm room, “we must be the last ones in.”

I watched as they turned to look at each other outside Kate and Sarah’s room, weirdly at that exact moment I saw Chase’s eyes widen as he reached towards Kate’s shoulder, snatching up a large spider from it, “just a sec.”
I was internally in awe at the size of the spider but that ended kind of quick, “ew, oh my god.” He dropped it onto the floor and stepped on it, making a nasty squishy noise as he smiled at Kate, “hate those things, and they’re all over this place,” I was saddened at the death of the creature as Chase smiled at Kate, “thank you.”

Sarah gave Kate a look as she spoke, “aw, see? Chivalry’s not dead after all.” I guess not but wasn’t Kate in a relationship with that Pogue guy, “no, it just transferred in.”

Kate turned her emotions around quickly, a new thought on her mind, “hey, we’re gonna go into town tomorrow for some things. Do you need to pick up any stuff?” I think she liked Chase and it bothered me a bit because it seemed like she was flirting with him, “Sure. I’m in 311. Call me.”

“Okay,” I noticed how everything was dark except their dorm light, I went ahead saying goodnight as I walked into my own room, one that I had to myself.

Unfortunately, after a short while both girls had joined me in my room for some reason and we sat talking about everything that happened throughout the night, “he’s hot huh.” They were in the middle of talking about the Chase guy when they came barging in and had simply kept on about it.

“Listen to you,” Sarah abruptly paused, remembering something from earlier at the party, turning towards her roommate she asked her question, “so why do you call them ‘The Sons of Ipswich’? What are they? Like, a boy band?”

She laughed at her while I watched in amusement, “You know what? I like you. You’re funny. Not like all the other stuck-up bitches.” At Kate’s words I actually snorted out a laugh, “no. They’re supposedly descendants of five families that settled the Ipswich Colony in the 1600s. Old money.” I nodded along with Sarah as she explained it to us, until she wasn’t, “you know Caleb and Reid were both checking you guys out tonight. In fact Reid seemed pretty into you y/n, like really into you,” I faked a shocked and surprised face as I fanned myself in a joking manner, “but if it were me, I’d go for Caleb.”

I frowned at her words, “yeah, not my type,” She smiled almost knowingly as Sarah questioned her, “why?”

“He’s just one of those majorly good guys, you know?” No doubt she would tell us exactly why but I really couldn’t care less about the Caleb boy and my sister's interest in the guy.

“Well, how do you mean?” She started taking her long sleeve shirt off, “well like he could stay here in the dorms and party with the rest of us, but he stays at home to take care of his mom.”

That’s actually pretty sweet, not something I would just expect right on the dot like that, “what’s wrong with her?” I glanced at Sarah, it sounded personal, “after Caleb’s dad died, she became a bit of an alcoholic.”

“So is he seeing anyone?” My brows furrowed as my sister changed the subject abruptly, no doubt uncomfortable with what she asked and the answer provided, “so we are interested, technically everyone but my boyfriend is single, even Reid.” She looked back at me with a smirk, I stopped paying attention at that point until Sarah walked out of my bathroom in only a towel, “or creepy.”

Chapter Text

I watched her leave with herself wrapped in only a towel, my head shaking side to side in disappointment, not even a pair of flip flops on her feet.

I waited for quite a bit before getting up and getting ready for a shower for myself. It was a weird layout, every dorm room had their own bathrooms but none had a single shower, instead there was a community shower, in retrospect though it is mostly normal. I stepped out only in a towel before leaving my dorm and going to the women's showers.

Passing Sarah in the hall, she rushed past me freaking out about being freezing. “Okay then…” I continued on my way to the showers with a giggle on my tongue as I walked through the cold empty corridor, I was feeling slight regret for not just changing when I was in the showers.

The room had a weirdly large area with multiple sinks and a large mirror, there were small lockers on the left side of the large powder styling room that led right to one large shower, there was also a second large shower through a small walkway near a hairdryer station.

I was taking my shower, just rinsing off my hair as I sat there relaxing under the hot water, suddenly a light bulb popped in the main area of the showers making me pause and turn the water off. “Hello? Sarah, is that you? Kate?” I walked over to the side and grabbed my towel after ringing my hair out, I opened the shower door after wrapping the towel around my wet skin, “Uhm? Anybody?” I sighed walking forward to see glass on the floor, it was a shattered light bulb

I couldn’t see anyone in the showers with me making me forget the idea that I was being watched, but there is broken glass on the floor from the shattered light bulb. I bent down picking a shard up before dropping it and standing slowly while I picked at it, a cloud of mist started to form behind me as I stood oblivious. It touched my back, and I let a deep breath escape me as I turned around in a jump, there was only my reflection. Freaked out slightly, I turned around re-adjusting my towel without uncovering myself and left. The mist reforms, loosely taking the shape of a person and watches me leave the steam filled room.

I was making my way back to my dorm when it felt weird. The air was cold and I became suspicious again, it was like I was being watched truly. I was looking around nervously behind me before turning back and suddenly Reid popped up in front of me. My eyes went wide, I didn’t scream or freak out instead I flung my arm out and punched him in the nose, “Oh, my God.” My eyes widened as I freaked out, “Ah, shit.”

My towel had slipped slightly giving him an eyeful of my chest before I fixed the towel, “Just got back. Sorry I didn't mean to do that.” I was confused on why he apologized, “No, no that was my fault, I am so sorry. Are you okay?”

“Yeah I-I’m okay sorry I scared you.” He was holding his nose before he lifted his hand away and scrunched his face, “It’s all my fault I was spooked, felt like someone was watching me in the showers.” I felt awful as I rubbed my face. I really didn’t mean to sock him in the face, at least nothing looked broken. He gave me a smile before walking past me slightly and stopping, “let’s take a look, shall we? It’s okay.”

I tried to say it was nothing but he just kept his hand extended till I took it, we walked back to the showers and went inside, he saw the glass on the floor as it crunched under his foot, but there was still no one there. He turned back to me, “Don’t see anyone.”

I sighed, “Yeah neither did I when I left,” He chuckled at me before extending his hand once again leading me back out of the showers and away from the broken glass. “So? I’ll catch you later, then.”

He was being really sweet as he walked me back to my dorm room, “for sure.” He watched me walk off and when I turned back he waved at me with a smile on his face, “G’night.” I walked into my room shutting the door behind me coming face to face with an empty room and a note on my bed that said ‘goodnight’, not even a signature.

Tossing my towel onto the rack in the bathroom before sauntering back into my room towards my dresser, I slipped on a pair of old gym shorts and an oversized mens shirt before flopping into my bed with an unintelligible grumble. I felt myself crashing as I smothered my face into the soft pillows that pulled me into a deep slumber filled with exhaustion, lizards and weirdly enough a cute blonde teenager.

Chapter Text

Woken up by my sister and her roommate, they all but dragged me out of my bed and stripped me almost down to the bone, just missing a few layers.

I was stunned, shocked when Kate threw a burnt pumpkin colored dress at me, smacking it against my ear, "guy's if you are going to dress me toss me my panties while you're at it, I’m not going commando today," I slipped the dress on over my naked form as she raided my pantie drawer with mischievous hands and a glint in her eye, "ohh, the little sister likes lace huh? This, this is the one, you have better taste than Sarah, that’s for sure..."

I raised a brow at her as she threw a pair at me, my sister a little shocked at the idea that I dress better, "Fine but throw me that little waist corset, I only will wear this with that corset. "Sarah gave me a look but as soon as I laced it up they whistled at me, "yeah, yeah I know."

I was dragged to town with them and Chase to pick stuff up from the pharmacy pretty soon after.

"Hey, Caleb," I turned to see him and Kate, "oh, hey, Kate. What are you up to?" She nudged her face down to the little basket in her hands before nodding towards me, "oh I'm just stocking up our room." I said a quick hello before looking back at the wall of candy before me, "did you hear about the dead kid?" I took a glance at him, noticing his expression, "yeah, yeah I did."

He seemed a bit shaken, possibly shaken but not like she was, "are you okay?" I asked concerned as he looked in my direction, "Yeah I just had a bit of a bad morning, almost got in an accident on my way here." I raised my brows as Kate gasped, "did you know him? Is that why?"

He looked at Kate before clearing it up, "no. No, he just transferred in. I was on the phone with Pogue and I just lost control for a second." I furrowed my brows slightly, turning away from the wall, "oh dang, at least you're okay though, is that kid the one they were talking about on the radio this morning?"

She nodded as he looked between us, "yeah, I also heard he lived on Reid and Tyler's floor." I let out a hum as my sister appeared behind Caleb after walking out from the other aisle, "Hi." I smiled at her as they turned towards each other slightly, "Hi there."

Chase popped out scaring Kate, he had large colorful glasses on and something in his hand, "Boo!" She had her hand on her chest before smacking his arm, "You scared me!" He looked over to see Caleb and my sister, "hey, man." Caleb didn't look very fond of Chase but he also didn't seem to outright dislike him, just mildly uncomfortable, "hey…"

It was slightly awkward so Kate brought something up, "I'm gonna see if Pogue wants to catch that new Brad Pitt flick this afternoon. Who else wants to go?" I watched everyone look at her, Chase spoke up first, "I will." She had a smile on her face at his answer, "Okay." I feel like she shouldn't be that excited for him to join her date, "I gotta run some errands for my mother."

My sister blurted her answer out as soon as Caleb finished speaking about his plans, "I already saw it."

I told Kate I would join her if it was okay while Caleb asked my sister if she wanted to join him instead so she didn’t have to watch it again, "Do you feel like running errands?" I already knew her answer as well, I could see her face light up red at his question, "Sure."

"Have fun Sarah..." I said her name in a teasing manner as Kate elbowed my side trying to hide her smile, we watched them leave together and get in his car before paying for our things at the counter, "I couldn't decide what type to get," Kate laughed at me as I set down three bags of chocolate, each one different, "I also couldn't help myself."

I had a sheepish smile as I set down a bag of M&Ms making her and Chase burst out with giggles at my face, "You are so adorable, oh my god." I was brutally teased a few times before we left the store but it stopped when Kate texted Pogue, "I guess it's just us today, Pogue isn't gonna be able to make it," I raised my brows, "oh, is everything okay?" She sighed with a nod, "Yea I guess he said he's got some bike problems going on, that's all."

I hummed at her as Chase spoke up, "More popcorn for us," She laughed at him while I groaned, "I'm good you two can have it all," they both gave me shocked looks, "you mean you don't like ice cream?" I was confused as Chase and I gave her a weird look, "Ice cream?" She gave a sheepish grin before correcting herself, "I meant popcorn, I swear I was listening."

We sat in the movie theater for the next two hours, when we left I finally stretched with a moan in my chest, "Wow, you know I didn't expect to sleep through the entire movie, it was pretty gory," I laughed at him as he pat my shoulder, "well since the other one wasn't there anymore the only one left was the scary movie, unfortunately I am pretty desensitized to all of that stuff."

Kate laughed at me along with Chase as we drove to the bar called Nicki's. "Please tell me it won't smell like stale peanuts or fried food in here," I was looking through the window at the building with the weirdly rustic yellow neon sign that hung on the top, "It's not that bad, promise."

I whined as we all got out, I was hesitant to go inside but both Kate and Chase grabbed my arms and all but dragged me through the double doors as if I was kicking and clawing my way back out.

"Hi guys," Kate had walked off to say hi to Tyler and Reid, both boys were near the pool table playing a game, there were quite a few people in that area including that Aaron guy and his lackie from last night.

I headed to the bar and got a basket of fries before doing anything else. But the next thing I know is she's pointing towards the table Chase and I are sitting at next after I’ve relaxed far away from the peanuts.
Tyler gives me a nod while Reid jogs over to me coming to a stop after practically sliding into the chair beside me. "Hey," He took a fry from my basket that I had just gotten after coming inside. "Wanna play a round with us?"

I smiled at him and tilted my head in mock thought, "sure doll face," I stood up giving him a full view of my outfit as I grabbed his arm tugging him along as he admired my back side, "did you dress up just for me?" He made a little joke and chuckled, "Who else would I wear this for?"

I turned slightly looking at him sideways before sauntering up to Tyler with a breathtaking smile, "Hiya buddy, got room for one more?" He looked back at Reid before smiling with a shake of his head.
"Have fun..." Kate had winked at me in a not so subtle way before walking away as I was tossed a pool cue and a chalk block. "First shot's all yours Y/n," I smiled at Tyler and walked to the side Reid was standing at to take my shot, I bent over and aimed before ramming my cue hitting my mark causing all of the balls to litter across the green table.

"Holy shit, three at once? Nice," I laughed before moving to a new spot to take my next shot, doing the exact same thing with a bit of a wiggle in my hips, "Need some help?" I smiled taking my shot and watching another ball fall in a hole, "No, I got it doll face."

At that moment Pogue had walked in to the bar and I noticed my sister was here with Caleb accompanying them, I took my next shot gaining two more when Tyler stressed his distaste, "Come on, Reid tell your girlfriend to leave some for the rest of us," I was beet red as I stuck my tongue out at him, "Snooze you loose, ain't that right babe," I walked towards a spot as I taunted him, I was almost almost directly in front of Reid bent over my cue as I lined up my shot again, I could practically feel the two boys telepathically talking about how I looked right now as I felt Reid's eyes on me, but when I took my shot I messed up the trajectory by a millimeter when Pogue suddenly appeared with his loud voice, "How long you guys been here?"

I missed, letting out a groan I lent against the table, "Come on Pogue, you did that on purpose didn't you?” They all laughed at me slightly as he apologized with a smile, it was like I had known them forever, completely comfortable around them, that is until Tyler spotted a girl in a black skirt at the bar.

She stood, leaning over the counter as he answered Pogue, "A bit. Just been playing Aaron and Bordy, and... Would you look at that?" Reid had put his arm around my shoulder right before everyone looked at the waitress, they knew what he was talking about and tensed slightly giving him a look that he was oblivious to, "Pink, lace."

I looked at her as the boys watched me, "Nope, you're totally wrong, she hasn't worn anything down there in years." Pogue and Reid looked at me in surprise before they relaxed and joined in, they each put a five on the green material of the pool table as they said what they thought it would be, "Blue, cotton."

I hummed, shaking my head at Reid when Pogue took my side, "I'm going with Y/n on this one," I smirked as I picked up my chalk block to fix my pool cue up, turning around away from the waitress I leaned back against the pool table and chalked up my stick.

I felt an energy pulse next to me making my spine shiver in an interesting was as I let out a light breath, Reid had used his powers, his eyes flashing an orange glow for a second as he made the waitresses skirt fly up, I was oblivious of course, only turning around when the boys had sighed and Pogue grabbed the money, "Yeah. Thanks, boys." I laughed as he walked away thanking me as well, "Oh so I was right after all, huh?"
Reid gave me a pout as he took his stance right next to me, "Lucky guess." I giggled at him, "Aww don't be a sore loser babe."

Tyler looked at me with a raised eyebrow, "Alright miss hot shot, what are you dealing with then?" Reid glared at him as I giggled, "Bet neither of you could guess right." They both took it as a challenge as Reid stood back up straight as a board as they looked at me with an observant eye, "Okay bet, Red, cotton, or, nothing at all."

I looked over to Reid for his answer after Tyler spoke, "Black, cotton." I smiled, shaking my head as I got closer, "I am afraid, you are both wrong." They groaned when I moved past him to the other side of the table, Reid was nodding at me, "alright then what's the answer." I faked a thoughtful face before teasing him, "why don't you find out."

It was blatantly bold of me as Tyler clapped him on the back making noises of encouragement, "It's black, so you got that part right." I smiled before finishing leaving them both to groan in disappointment as Reid stared at me with a smirk on his face.

"But, it's lace so you both lose."

All of a sudden the guy named Aaron from the party last night had walked past and slapped my ass as I was slightly bent over the table as Reid was aiming his cue, "Who the fuck?!" I turned around when the jukebox started playing a different song, "Are you fucking kidding me."

The tall boy just smirked at me as Reid and Tyler stepped, "What? You're just askin for it dressed like that." He laughed as his friend followed his suit, he wasn't laughing for long when I socked him in the face breaking his nose, "Oh I'm sorry, then again, you were asking for it."

He turned around holding his face before slapping me. Tyler and Reid pushed him away from me and they all ended up outside, Tyler holding me back when I came out pissed off, "Let's go. Bring it on."
I scoffed spitting acid at him, "hit me one more time bitch, I'll break your fucking hands."

When he came close to me I stepped up as much as I could past Tyler but he got pushed back by Reid who was fuming making Aaron get mad at him as well, "Back off she was defending herself, dickhead. You shouldn't have done what you did."

His friend scoffed at us as Reid and Tyler stared at them both, "We ain't done nothing wrong, so if you don't like it..." Caleb had come up behind me from inside the bar, "What's the problem?"

Aaron barely gave him a glance as he came almost between them, "None of your damn-," I shoved my middle finger up at him while Reid stood up for me, "He fucking grabbed Y/n and when she defended herself he hit her back."

"Everyone just forget about it, okay?" I scoffed at him thinking about how my sister would react to this whole situation. The owner of the bar came out with a bat telling us to fight somewhere else, "Hey! Take it someplace else, ladies. Now."

I calmed down a little as the Aaron guy agreed to leave even if it was a bit rude, "Whatever you say, Nicky." Him and his friend turned to leave but not before he winked at me, Nick went inside leaving us all alone as I was simmering. "Fuck me..." I spit some of the blood out of my mouth after they left. The blood having filled my gums from when he slapped me, my teeth having cut the inside of my cheek in the action, "What were you thinking?"

"He fucking hit her. We didn't do shit." Caleb gave him a certain type of look mentally communicating with him as I touched my cheek, "Yeah, come on, Caleb. They were in the wrong here." Reid was pissed off and when he grabbed my face I winced slightly, "Why don't you quit being such an ass?"

Caleb simply sighed as Pogue came outside to see what was going on, "Hey. Everything good?" Reid and Tyler simply looked at the other two boys and nodded at Pogue, "We're gonna go, how bad is it?" Tyler was talking to me and Pogue, making Pogue concerned, "What happened? Is she okay?"

"Don’t worry, we didn't start anything, Aaron assaulted her." I waved Pogue off when he came up to us, "I'm all good, nothing a cold compress won't fix." I threw my head back slightly when Reid pressed too hard on my lower cheek, "It's okay." He grabbed my hand and we left with Tyler without talking to the other two any further.

Chapter Text

We had made it to the dorm rooms and while Tyler had parted ways from the group to go get ready for the first day of school, Reid had stayed with me. He not only walked me all the way to my room but came in with me to make sure my face wouldn't bruise and swell. I wanted to change clothes first not even bothering to make him turn around when I slipped my panties off under my dress and pulled a pair of pajama shorts on before stripping my dress over my head, he had practically already seen my upper body so I didn't really mind at this point plus my cheek was overly hot and I just wanted this over.

It took me a few seconds to find one of my super soft extra large shirts before I slipped it over my body, "Wanna learn how to make a compress for that shiner growing dollface?" He was surprised when I turned around, "How'd you?" I smiled at him with a tilted head, "I saw that asshole hit you, I'm not blind."

"Come on les' go." I grabbed his arm and dragged him to the bathroom with me as he laughed. I taught him how to make a cold aloe compress for a few minutes which ended up with us doing a small skincare routine so our skin was clean before I made him lay down on my bed. My bed was literally just two twins pushed together since I had no roommate for the year, "don't move..."

"Don't move!"

He was trying not to laugh as he kept wiggling around, "Stop..." I was laughing at him because of the face he was making before I finally got the compress to sit on the right side of his jaw after straddling him to pin him down. "Good boy." I tapped his nose as I laid next to him, I slathered my own on as I unconsciously curled into his side, "Oh my gosh, you're so warm...it's nice..." I had my head on his chest as he chuckled, it was a soothing sound and it made me drift to sleep pretty fast.

We had somehow both fallen asleep in my bed after a while but sometime before he fell asleep he had turned off the lamp next to us and laid there watching my chest raise and lower as my breathing evened out until he had fallen asleep himself, but still not before he went dream walking into my mind for a few minutes.

My dream was short and sweet, the epitome of peace and satisfaction, simply of me walking through the moonlit forest using my powers, he had thought it was a bit weird how in my dream I had a power so similar to his own but he only thought it to be a coincidence before he fell asleep letting our dreams meddle together.

We were curled up together, my leg thrown over him while his hand held my thigh against his lower half, we had woken up to my sister and Kate barging in, "Oh my god!?" My eyes opened to see both girls in uniforms, "Ugh..."

I curled back into Reid not happy with waking up at the moment, "Did you two?" I groaned as Reid answered before pulling the large fuzzy blanket over our heads, "Too tired, go away." Kate snorted as my sister yanked the blanket off, making me whine, "Noo..." She snorted at me before Kate pulled Reid up and my sister pulled me off of him, "First day, get ready!"

That made me open my eyes and swat her hands away as I stripped my shirt off while walking to my dresser, "Fine..." Reid had excused himself saying he would catch me later as I changed into my uniform, I wasn't ready for the large interrogation I faced from my sister and Kate however.

'Good morning. Mr. Danvers. Provost Higgins requests the pleasure of your company after class. Now, we're going to study four American contemporary writers of fiction. First is Cormac McCarthy, then Tim O'Brien, Kent Haruf, and last but not least, Stephen King.'

"Yeah! Dreamcatcher was the shit!" I snorted at Reid as I found myself sitting next to him, "Mmn, no doll face, pet cemetery, that was the shit..." I whispered to him as I patted his hand, he gave me a cute stare before poking my side while he smiled at me, it only ended with me smacking his arm though.

'Thank you, Mr. Garwin, but no. My choice is The Shining.'

He flicked me while giving me a look that said 'guess we were both wrong', I gave him one back that clearly stated, 'I was never wrong'. Class was long and boring and at one point when our teacher started playing the first part of the 'Shining' I had fallen asleep against Reid's arm.

After a while we had all split up for a bit, class having finally droned on to it's inevitable end.

The girls dragged me to the library with them and when Sarah had found a book in the history section called 'Chronicles of Paganism' she read a little bit about the Witches of Ipswich. Even coming across a paragraph about the Putnam family, the page had some nasty looking spiders on it, "Ohh look, that looks like the spider Chase pulled off of Kate's shoulder on night one." She looked at me, in fact they both looked at me, "What? It looks exactly like it." Kate had ignored it with a light nudge and a smile, "What is that?" I guess Sarah didn't expect her to get so close because she jumped slightly, becoming startled, "Caleb's family history."

"Did you know that the witchcraft thing started here in Ipswich?" That didn't sound right in my mind but at the same time it did, "Every time I ask Pogue about it, he just tells me it's all nonsense." I nodded to myself putting the book in my hands back on the shelf as I turned back to the girls, "Well you two ladies have fun, I told Reid I would watch them practice," I gave them an exhausted look as they laughed at me while I trudged out of the library, "See you two later, bye..."

Walking through the corridor I noticed how quiet it was and barren, I felt like I was being watched yet there wasn't anyone around me, "fucking creepy." I turned into the sports hall after a few minutes, I knew practice was starting in a few minutes so I wasn't going to be late and luckily the doors were labeled. The feeling of being watched was getting intense to the point I had to turn around right before the pool room.

I didn't expect to see some kind of ghoul or for it to practically lunge at me through the air, I landed on the ground roughly, the tiled floor making my back hurt, "Get off of me!" I couldn't push it off and right as I yelled it forced its hands around my throat, I was terrified to the point my powers weren't even working. The double doors next to me and the creature burst open causing it to tighten its grip as I kicked my legs and finally got one of my legs between us before throwing it off of me. Its form flew into the ceiling and dissipated, "Y/n?!"

I was coughing as I heard Reid's voice along with Pogue, "Holy shit." That part didn't register in my head as I rolled over feeling like my throat was bleeding internally. Reid had grabbed me picking me up before carrying me into the pool room, I had basically cinched my arms around him completely terrified and in shock.

"It wasn't him." Reid had sat me down on a chair to the side of the doors as he bent down to check on me, moving my neck to the side slightly, "you're okay, you're okay now." The other three boys watched as their friend started comforting me, they were each stunned by what had happened and neither me nor Reid could hear them as they whispered in hushed voices. Tyler had run off to grab a cold drink for me while the other two started talking again, "It can't be Reid he was with us the whole time."

Practice had started after a short amount of time and the boys had to start doing laps as I stayed and watched, none of them let me leave to go to my room and I didn't want to be completely alone at the moment either. When practice finished Reid was the first one to leave and the quickest one out of the locker room as he rushed back to me.

I was way too freaked out to go sit in my room in the dark so instead Reid had dragged me all the way into town for some cold soft serve ice cream, "Reid?" He sighed before I had even said his name, "I'm a warlock."
When he blurted out those words I stiffened in the passenger seat, "You got attacked by a darkling, but none of us sent it after you, I promise, I," I stopped him quickly making him shut his mouth as we sat in the parked car outside of the shop, "Reid shut up, please..." He looked like a kicked puppy until he peered at my expression.

"I... I kind of knew already." I had my eyes closed as I rubbed my temples, it was awkward and he would probably freak out at what I was about to say and do, "I can feel when you use magic, I may not know what a 'gargling' is or whatever but, oh my fuck," I threw my head back against the head rest at what I was about to do, "Don't freak out okay?”

“I didn't know exactly what you were, I just thought I was imagining it." It was his turn to be confused today and when I turned to him sitting sideways in my seat I flashed my eyes at him, they pulsed a light green before I flashed them a full black for a second.

When my eyes went back to normal he just sat frozen as I got worried, "Reid?" He flipped the next second, reaching towards me in a rush. I didn't even have enough time to flinch as his fist closed around my throat and pulled me over the console.

What surprised me the most wasn't his non-existent anger but how he smashed our lips together, and for a quick second all I could think about was why didn't he get angry but it quickly left my thoughts. My eyes were closed and I felt hazy, the energy I felt when we were in the same vicinity was magnified so intensely as we melded together that my mind went blank as I crawled over and into his lap.

I was left breathless, slightly dazed and lost as he somehow managed to pull away from me, it got worse and my daze faded quickly when I realized he had not only pulled away but got out of the car leaving me sat on the console with one of my legs in his seat and the other under his steering wheel as I sat sideways.

I only realized exactly what was going on when he leaned over to peer at me through the open door before standing with his hand extended.

I had to blink a few times before getting out of the car, he took my hand shutting the door behind me before walking us into the old diner style shake shack. "Reid? Are you mad at me?" He had ignored me the entire time after sitting down at a booth with a huff, he only really set his eyes on me when I spoke to him.

"No, if anything it feels right, if that makes any sense, I don't know how the guys would take it if they find out but," I was watching him as he talked, "I think if anything it'll make you fit in more with us."

I just watched waiting for him to ask me something, anything, "Is Sarah like us too? Or well, like you I mean?" I shook my head at him looking down for a moment before meeting his gaze once again, "I'm her half sister, I got it from my mother."

The waitress came over with her eyes stuck to Reid and a bounce in her step, "Hi Reid, what can I get you? Maybe, my number?" He barely even looked at her as he spoke, "Two soft chocolate bowls and a basket of fries." She winked at him giving an okay with a flirty voice before walking off, completely ignoring my existence. "But you know what this means right?" I bit my lip and tilted my head at his words, "We have to date, it's the rules. We have to be with each other now."

I actually choked on my own laughter as he tried not to join in my laughter, "Is that so?" He nodded at me as he licked his lips with a smirk, "Well if it's the rules then I guess I can't say no." I lent onto the table after a long fake sigh, "Nope you can't, all mine now." Our laughter toned down as the girl from before walked over, setting the basket and bowls down in front of him as well as sliding the check across the table to him as she bent over the table, "Here you go."

I watched her leave with a cocked brow before narrowing my eyes at him in a playful manner, "does this mean I'm going to have to beat the girls off of you with a stick now?" He chuckled before sliding a bowl of ice cream in front of me and the fries in between us, "Maybe." I grabbed a fry with a smile on my face and dipped it into the sweet creamy dessert, he watched me toss it onto my tongue as he grabbed his own fry and did the same.

"Fries and ice cream huh?" I looked at the receipt to see that it was upside down and it had a phone number scrawled on it in red pen. He noticed my attention wasn't on him and after I took a quick glance around the little shack shop I pulsed my eyes a green flash making the number disappear. "Really?" I only shrugged at him, "Well what do you expect, doll face...“

“I'm not the best at sharing things I like."

Chapter Text

After our little date/excursion he drove us back to the Academy and even gave me a piggyback ride up to my dorm room where we could hear yelling from next door in Kate and Sarah's dorm. 'You're being ridiculous! What is your problem?'

It was completely muffled but we could hear it in the corridor, 'Chase is my problem.' We had only been standing in the corridor for a second as we stopped a few dorms down when we heard the yelling, 'What, are you jealous?!'

It sounded bad but I knew where he was coming from, her and Chase were pretty flirty with each other when they shouldn't be, 'I don't want you hanging around him." We couldn't hear anything else from their conversation as they quieted down a lot, "Keep walking toots."

I turned to look at Reid as I smacked his arm, "oh you'd love to see me walking, wouldn't you babe?" Neither of us heard the door open as Reid held onto me and walked me back into the wall as I tried not to smile, "Y/n? Reid?"

I went beet red faster than the speed of light as I face planted myself into Reid's chest on accident causing the boy in question to chuckle at me, "Hey Pogue, whassup man?"

They talked for less than a few seconds when I was pulled by Reid to my room, "Bye Y/n. Have fun." I exchanged a quiet goodbye with him as I was still flushed with embarrassment, "Oh my god, Reid..." My whine made him laugh as he corralled me into my little dorm room.

"Come on, let's get you a cold compression." I made a weird face as he pulled me behind him, "It's compress babe," he turned to me once we were in front of my mirror that hung over the bathroom sink, "Yeah, that's what I said, now don't move or I'll have to tie you down."

Ohh? "Is that how you like to play?" I lifted my chin to expose the already forming bruise on my neck, "Are we gonna play hostages?" I wanted to laugh at him but the way he looked at my throat made my thoughts wander. He was very focused, clearly concerned, it made me close my mouth as his fingers touched my neck and wrapped an extra compress around it. "Thank you..."

He stopped his ministrations to look at my face as I tilted to the side so he could finish, I didn't expect him to say anything as he smoothed it against my battered skin, "Always." My skin twitched as he ran the tips of his fingers down to my collarbone, "Is my tie good enough?"

I was confused as he slipped his tie off with relative ease, before I could say anything he snapped it like one would do with a belt and my face flushed a deep red, so that's what he meant...

Unfortunately for him I wasn't one to back down easily and become a shy blubbering mess when it came to these situations, "Way to ruin the moment babe... I like em' tight by the way." I had shoved my hands in front of me, my wrists pressed tightly together.

It seemed we were both a bit stubborn in this regard though, my hands became tied with a simple orange flash of his eyes and I threw my arms over his head to wrap around him. "Now you've fallen into my trap..." I feigned surprise trying not to laugh as he picked me up by my thighs, wrapping myself around his waist. I leaned in close, whispering softly against the shell of his ear, "oh no, what ever shall I do?"

"Y/n?!" I didn't even bother looking over at the door as I heard it slam shut, "My sister just saw us like this didn't she?" He burst out laughing as he laid us onto the bed pulling my arms from around him and taking his tie, "Sorry," I only looked at him in thought, "Maybe she won't pick my lock anymore to get in." I giggled before rolling over on top of him, "I love how warm you are."

Chapter Text

"Come on, man!" I sat next to Reid as we watched Pogue swim during the small competition between a few of the guys, "Come on, Pogue!" Reid hadn't gotten in the water yet so he sat on the bench next to me instead of sticking next to the guys, "wow, impressive," He gave me a look as he puffed his feathers up a little, "not as impressive as you though babe."

What good would it be if I didn't help him maintain his ego a bit? I giggled a little as he smiled nodding to himself, Caleb speaking up from in front of us as he watched the water, "he really is good though." Chase was here as well, but I was only reminded of his presence when he spoke, "he's the best I've seen here. I hear you swim a mean freestyle."

"That's what they tell me." I didn't like the vibe that I got from Chase very much, he was weird and he made me uncomfortable, "Let's see what you got."

They both hopped into the pool and only took off when Pogue yelled out 'start', they were almost next to each other but Caleb was still ahead by a few strokes, "Let's go!" They made it to the other side quickly right next to each other, "Push off! Let's go!"

It was their return lap now after they had pushed off the pool wall, I was keeping a close watch on their faces for some reason, I just felt like I had too. That's when I noticed Chase's eyes, they flashed a fiery orange before turning full black for a second, "oh my god's, Reid?" I stood up in time to see Caleb smash headfirst into the side of the pool and go unconscious, "Pogue!"

It takes a few minutes for him to wake up after Tyler pulls him out of the pool with Chase. I was being side eyed by Tyler and Pogue the entire time as we stood around the previously unconscious boy, "you okay, man? There you are."

"Had us going there for a second." I tried not looking at Chase and I could immediately sense the wariness that Caleb now held for the other newbie. "Whacked your head pretty good. Lucky for you, Chase was there to get you out...before you sucked up the pool." Reid lightened up the situation with a little competition humor but it did little to help, "he also whipped your ass."

I waited outside of the locker room for everyone, mainly Reid of course, "Hey, ready for class?" I nodded at him sort of shyly as I grabbed his hand to drag him away acting a bit excited to hide my freaked out mind. Once we were a sufficient way away I let out a breath and he picked up on it immediately, "What? Are you okay?" I didn't know how to word it and what if he thought I was making it up, "I saw… I saw Chase's eyes flash orange before they went fully black, like yours."

He stopped walking, his hand tightening around my hand as I looked at him, he could see how freaked out I was, "are you sure... When?" I nodded to him as I looked behind us making sure no one was around us, "Right before Caleb got knocked out in the pool."

He looked at me slightly unsure but with everything that's been going on it would make sense, "It can't be me, I didn't even know if you guys actually had abilities like me or not, and I didn't know about darklings until you told me what it was, what they are."

"He's the only one here who makes my skin crawl."

I was on the verge of hyperventilating at the moment and he was realizing that a bit slowly, "Okay, I'll talk to the guys later but you’ll have to come with me so they don't think it's you, if it is him then you need to stay with us." He was reassuring me as he pulled me into his arms with his chin resting atop my head.

Class had started and I was seated between Reid and Caleb. Chase was across the room yet it still made me uncomfortable so I avoided his presence as much as I could. Caleb was obviously watching him which gave me hope he saw the same thing I did. I could feel the nerves of the two boys I was wedged between, it was uncomfortable but Reid's hand on my knee kept me grounded as I sat back in my seat lazily taking notes.
'It became apparent that the view of civil liberties needing no special protection was not widely shared.'

The teacher was interrupted by a loud couple rasps on the door, he was clearly startled in the middle of his lecture, 'Come in. Thank you. Twelve amendments were suggested, ten eventually ratified, called the what, Ms. Snider?' That was Kira's last name, her voice made me more unnerved, 'the Bill of Rights.' She probably had no idea what the amendments were with how stupid she was, 'Right you are. Arguably the first being the most important. Read it for us, Mr. Simms. Mr. Collins, you're wanted in the provost's office.'

Collins? That can't be right, his last name felt like it was wrong, I watched him grab his things so he could leave, 'Mr. Simms.' Chase had just started walking to the door as Tyler started reading from in front of us, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press or the right of the people peaceably to assemble..." I kept my eyes trained on Chase and saw him give a smirk towards us or maybe just towards Caleb.

I decided to try something since I knew no one would be able to feel me use my powers and since the teacher had put on a small film about the topic leaving the room in darkness as the projector played. For precaution I lowered my head and closed my eyes as they flashed and turned black, I took Reid's hand in my own to help keep me grounded as I used my powers.

I was in the office with Provost Higgins in the next few minutes, just as Chase walked in. I could feel that Reid was tightening his hold on my hand probably realizing what I was doing. 'Provost Higgins. You wanted to...?' I knew neither of these two would be able to sense me or see me so I was completely safe, 'Chase, come in. You know one of our students lost his life a few nights back at the Dells.'

'Yes, I heard.' I remember, the kid was in the paper for the last few days, he had died our first night here, in the woods outside of the party, his body was found in his vehicle, 'Did you know him?'

'No, sir. Why?' He was faking confusion, it was painfully obvious he wasn't an actor, 'His car was returned to his parents. His mother was kind enough to send this back to us.' I watched the older man hand Chase a student I.d. specifically his student I.D. 'My student ID. I lost it that night.' The conversation was taking a turn and for the worst, I could feel it. 'It was in the back seat.' He killed that kid, 'That's odd. I wonder how he got it. Thank you, sir.' He actually killed a kid, a human one, 'You're welcome. I understand you've become close with Caleb and his friends.'

'Yeah. They're great guys, sir.'

'I agree. You couldn't have picked a better bunch.'

'I think so too.' He knows.

I pulled myself back into my body and opened my eyes to see my desk shrouded in darkness as the film played at the front of the class, "are you okay?" I looked at Reid and just gave him the exact look that would convey my emotion. Tyler had just turned around with Pogue and I could feel both they're eyes on me as well as Caleb's who was still sitting on my other side. I leaned over to him and whispered in his ear, "I'll tell you later."
He squeezed my hand before I pulled away slightly tired, I just wanted to take a nap as I rested my head in my arms as my forearms curled around my head leaving my hands to rest in my hair. I was starting to get a migraine and it felt like insects were crawling on me, like spiders.

Chapter Text

The boys had kept their eyes on me for a while, often glancing at me in our classes if we were all in the same ones, I only had one class without Reid and it was with Caleb and Pogue, they had kept to themselves that class, not bothering to include me in their conversation. I had just finished my last class with everyone in it and Reid had grabbed my hand dragging me off to my dorm as my head slowed its pounding, I didn't realize that the boys excluding Chase had followed us through the corridors barely staying hidden.

In the safety of my dorm I flopped onto my bed scrunched up in a tight ball almost directly in the middle of the bed, "Are you okay?" I whined as he just stood there watching me, "I've gotten a headache and it seems as though it means to not spare me so easily this time."

All I could hear was his chuckle as my pain suddenly faded away rather quickly leaving behind a very nice tingly feeling, "Thank you..." I felt the bed dip on my right as I heard the door open, it was the boys and on instinct I was already curled up into Reid's arm before our audience had made their entrance. "What is with everyone and not knocking, what if I was naked geez."

They each looked embarrassed but everything felt like it stopped when Caleb spoke, "Reid told you didn't he? And you saw Chase in the pool too, didn't you?" Reid had kind of puffed up like a protective kitten but calmed down when I touched his arm and sat up loosening my shirt and tie, "Yes and yes, his eyes flashed and turned black before you knocked yourself out, I dunno bout you boys but if you're as good a swimmer as your reputation says, then you shouldn't have gotten fried like a catfish the way you did." Maybe that wasn't the best analogy but it got the words across, I also figured it was time to come clean and get a few answers of my own.

"And unlike you boys my genetics is passed down through the women and I sure as shit wasn't taught black magic like that let alone on what the fuck a darkling was, so I would appreciate if you boys would explain why you got an evil warlock hunting you four down like pheasants in duck hunting season."

"What...are you saying what I think you're saying?" Tyler was the only one who spoke as Reid laid back down with a nod to the boys, "Yea and we also need to talk about what happened with Chase and Provost Higgins."
Reid sat up straight instantly looking at me as Caleb looked upset, "You saw what happened when you used your powers didn't you?" I nodded to him and started rambling about what exactly I saw, "That kid who died the night of the party, Provost asked Chase if he knew him because his student I.D. was in the back of the kids car, his parents found it and sent it back. Also I am pretty sure he is targeting you four directly and Kate, dude is creepy and always picking spiders off of her."

At Kate's name Pogue perked up even more, "not to mention my sisters had nightmares of spiders attacking both of them and Kate thinks someones stalking her." Reid had sort of known about the whole being watched thing, "That night in the showers you said it felt like someone was watching you too." I nodded at him as the other boys finally processed what was going on.

"I get it if you guys think I'm doing this but I would never hurt my sister, she's all I got and not to mention I didn't have anyone to teach me everything or tell me what creatures there are." Caleb stepped forward thinking about the first night, "What about your poisonous animal thing, that lizard and you have more apparently?" I sighed slightly and flashed my eyes green, "Animals just like me, insects too, like beetles and butterflies, before my mom died she said we were connected through nature, I'm not exactly like you four, hence the eyes also I don't mess with spiders or anything remotely close to them, in fact I’m actually allergic to quite a few arachnids."

"Also I haven't exactly been alone since I got here, so I couldn't have done anything, unless you wanna accuse me of hexing someone while I'm dreaming of talking coconuts," Pogue was a bit concerned but he already didn't trust that Chase guy and I was Sarah's sister, Caleb had backed off though and now it was just Tyler, "You could have done it at anytime though, while everyone is asleep or when you're supposedly taking showers, after class or before class..."

I tilted my head down knowing what was about to happen, "I've practically been with her since day two other than that she's with Sarah and Kate, the only time she's been alone was when that darkling attacked her." Tyler still wasn't convinced but I felt like he had an ulterior motive still, "But she still could have done it during a so-called 'shower' or while everyone's asleep, Reid come on." My face was starting to flush, "Look at her, why is her head down if she's not guilty huh?"

"Probably because I've been sleeping with her every night and we take showers together, why else Tyler, her face is probably red." That shut Tyler up quickly, I was turning my head towards Reid slowly as I registered exactly what he said, "Geez at this point we might as well invite everyone to watch, huh?!" I was smacking his arm with a light wack as he laughed, "God get a room..."

I Stopped when my phone rang, it was on the floor making me almost topple over as I crawled over Reid and bent my upper half off the bed to grab it, "You called I answer- Woah Sarah, what, where are you?"
'I'm at the hospital, Kate wasn't feeling well, they said she's having an allergic reaction or something, she went into anaphalactic shock.' That made me freeze instantly as I took a glance at Pogue, "From what?" I felt dread creep up my spine at that moment, 'They said it's as if she'd been bitten by hundreds of insects. Like spiders. You have to tell Pogue, she's gonna be so freaked out and I don't know if I can-,' I sucked in a sharp breath as I felt Reid's hand on my thigh, "Okay, okay calm down and breathe, grab your inhaler if you need it, I'll tell Pogue okay, love you too, stay safe." I hung up, dropping my phone as I pulled myself back onto the bed, "Tell me what?"

"Kate went into anaphalactic shock, she's at the hospital with Sarah... They said it was like she was bitten by hundreds of spiders."

Chapter Text

It had taken a few minutes to calm Pogue down enough to not go out and kill Chase at that exact moment, Tyler and Caleb had split from our group and dragged Pogue along for their super secret spy case in the 'headmasters' office while leaving us be. It would have been too obvious for all five of us to go and since I was feeling exhausted from my previous magic use Reid and I stayed back.

We were alone in my dorm after my door shut with a loud click, Reid's eyes flashed a fiery orange and the door locked, leaving us in silence. He adjusted himself on the bed as I did the same leaving us laying on top of my comforter face to face. I was content although tired as he rubbed my arm with his thumb, it brought tickle induced chills to my skin, "You look tired," I deadpanned and flicked his nose, "Cause I am, no thanks to you."

He craned his head back slightly as I gave him a barely hidden smile that held humor in it, "Are you saying it should be because of me?" He gave me a wonky smile that I returned with another flick to his nose, "Maybe I am..."

I was fully on my back the next second and he was halfway laying on me, he connected our lips with a softness that was only shown to me, "Then I guess I'll have to fix that, now won't I..." I giggled as he repeatedly gave me quick pecs against my lips before resorting to smothering my face in sweet kisses, "Reid..." I whined out his name as my door unlocked and opened, "Woah, did not expect that...''

Reid didn't get off of me at the sound of Tyler's voice, instead he simply threw his arm back shoving his middle finger up as he kissed me. I was thoroughly embarrassed but my mind became stunned, hazing over when our lips had touched with more pressure, completely forgetting that someone had walked in, "Uh guys?"

It went on for a few minutes, a haze taking over both of us, even when the other two boys came in we were locked together by our lips, our actions evolving to the point where I was laid on my back arched up against him as we made out in front of our company, more people joining to watch.

Tyler had witnessed the whole thing, well almost the whole thing, he had seen the middle finger lead to me under the blonde before I sat straddling Reid as a green and orange mixed cloud whipped around us, "What the hell is going on?"

“Are we really about to watch them hook up?” Tyler grimaced at his own words as they stood watching as the haze took us deeper, Reid's hands having trailed under the back of my shirt, smoothing along my skin, over my spine, "It's their magic, it looks like," They were all witnessing the magic energy pulsing around us, Caleb recognizing it, "It's a barrier. I don't think they can hear us..."

Tyler and the other two tried separating us with their magic and in the end they did but not without each of us being subtly electrocuted, each of our necks were left in a flash of searing pain, by that moment my shirt was already off and with my hair being up in a bun, the spot in pain was in full view.

I pulled my hand away from the area with a soft hiss, my fingers were faintly smeared in blood, "ow, what the fuck," Reid had seen the blood on my finger tips after he flickered back into full consciousness. No longer in a haze he pulled me against him shielding me from the others who looked on to also see the wound.

Reid was hunched against me looking at the mark, he reached back to his own neck and that's when the boys realized, Tyler whispering loudly, letting the words they were all thinking be spoken into existence, "You're our fifth..."

Chapter Text

"You guys...you guys branded me?"

"What the fuck guys, and I'm topless, come on..." My whine came out a bit muffled as I was pressed into Reid's shoulder as he padded his fingers against the edge of the new marking.
It was a rune burned into my skin like a magic made birthmark.

"Okay, we know how it looks but I swear it wasn't our fault... you're our fifth...when all of our powers were used to separate both of yours from each other, okay that sounds pretty bad too." He tried to make it sound okay but with only Reid keeping my chest from the sight of the three boys, I was a bit freaked out already, "The books always talked about a fifth, 'only another can complete the circle, connected by magic, eternal'."

"But we never figured out what that meant." They were going into a full on discussion and I was definitely over it already, at least for the moment, "Can you three maybe turn around please, I would like to not be totally exposed right now."

They all did as I asked leaving me to grab Reid's jacket and slide it over my shoulders, "Fuck you're so beautiful..." I giggled as I gave him a quick kiss not even thinking about the consequences, unfortunately and thankfully the boys had turned around to see our energies mix together once again as we ended up on the bed, his body on top of mine and his hands under the material on my chest as my legs wrapped around him, pulling him closer in our haze, "not this shit again."

It took a few minutes for them to act with their powers, they almost just let it happen but once Reid had started unbuckling his belt they yelled, "no! No! Stop that!"

In less than a minute we were out of our haze once again. "We have got to get you two some kind of blockers or something." It was an interesting feeling, the after haze and during it, "maybe let it happen next time then," Reid was enduring the weird aftermath of the haze as was I and I was definitely feeling it at the moment, "Feels... Good..."

"Great, that's good, maybe explore that feeling after our whole Chase situation." My heavy breathing and lidded eyes let on that I was still pretty out of it making Tyler have a pretty smart idea, splashing water on my face and Reid's. "Alright you two. We need to read 'the book' now so come on."

The boys were grabbing random stuff in my room so we could leave at those words but I was still out of breath as was Reid when he helped me stand up. His hands on my body made it feel like we were going back into that haze once again, that is until Pogue and Caleb pulled us apart just in case. I gave a groan as Reid started getting annoyed his hands being smacked away from me like a child.

"Reid stop trying to touch her."

Chapter Text

"Creepy house in the woods, definitely better than a make-out sesh," we were in a dark damp basement/dungeon cavern place, the room was lit up by candles and a goblet of fire after a few seconds. I noticed Caleb's eyes flash orange and a book flew off of a nearby bookshelf, one of the many that surrounded the room.

It sat hovering above a weird looking table, on which a circle of flames erupted from. I watched as the book opened to a specific page filled with pictures of spiders and Salem witch trials, there were long passages in accordance to what was drawn as well.

"It's a list of names... who brought charges against John Putnam and his family during the Salem hunt. Pope was one of them, Goody Pope, Widow of Jacob, mother to Hagen." I backed up away from the book to stand next to Reid as Caleb read from the book, Tyler however had dived between Reid and I making sure we weren't touching. "So what?" Reid was annoyed at the moment, antsy when not connected with me. "So she claims that John Putnam came to her as an incubus in her dreams...after she was widowed. The Book also records births and deaths during the damnation. Goody Pope's husband, Jacob, died June fourth, 1692. Her son, Hagen, was born April 11th, 1693. That's 10 months and 24 days later. "

"If what you're saying is true...and Hagen Pope is the bastard son of John Putnam... then the fifth bloodline in the Covenant didn't end in Salem." Standing around the room that was lit with only fire made this more than a little creepy, "And Chase is one of us." We didn't know he was from one of the original families but this made them more concerned, "So this is really happening."

"The night after the party at the Dells...someone was using. The Power was strong enough to wake me. The next night, it happened again." It was that night in the showers, "Yeah, someone was using it at the school, but someone did it before the party too before any of you showed up." They each knew what I was talking about, "I felt it then." Apparently everyone had felt it, "See? I told you. I felt it too." I had a nasty thought at that moment and it made me sick, "What if he wants to steal your powers?" They didn't like that thought either…

"Can I see one of your markings real quick?" Pogue had pulled his shirt collar down so I could see the back of his neck in that next moment, "Do you know what it is?" I did, I gave a hum and let go of his shirt as he turned around and all of them looked at me, "It's a rune, it means ascension." They had each looked between each other not giving me any clue as to what that meant, "Know anything about that?"

"We ascend when we turn eighteen, we get our full powers." It was confusing but I got the gist of it pretty quickly, "When do you turn eighteen then?" Caleb spoke up first while Tyler had his head in the giant book, "September eighth, which is very soon for me, all our birthdays are behind each other. Tyler's is on the ninth, Pogue is the tenth and Reid is the eleventh."

That was some freaky information, "So that means Chase would be the seventh then right?" Pogue and Caleb nodded while Reid had joined Tyler's reading journey, "And mine is on the twelfth." That information didn't fully surprise them but they didn't expect it.

"So we found out why you two get sucked up by your energies when you make out, which is annoying by the way," I heard Reid snort as me and the boys bound over to the book, "See here, it says 'Ascension completes with five, the brand will be the sign' but it says over here that 'To complete the bond of two let the blaze consume', and look at that, 'The blaze will grow when ascension is near."

At that moment Reid had decided to pinch my ass as Tyler pointed at the picture under the text, it was a mist surrounding a rune, "This rune means eternal love." Tyler groaned as Reid wrapped around me with a chuckle leaving his mouth, “haha, suckers…”

"I'm not watching you two eat each other alive."

"Please as if I'd let you get a peek of my girl." Caleb's phone rang at that moment, "Wait, wait. What?" We were all keen to find out why he looked freaked out, "Okay, listen. I want you to go back to your dorm... and wait for me there. I'll see you soon, okay?" He put his phone back in his pocket making all of us assume they hung up, "He's put a spell on Kate, Sarah said she's in intensive care now, it's gotten worse," I knew it was bad but I thought that maybe she would be okay, "What are you talking about? What kind of spell?"

"Creation. Spiders. She's in a hospital in Gloucester, it was him, it had to be, this proves it." Pogue stood up and the candles started flickering and going out around the room, "Wait. Don't do anything until we know what he wants!" They were in a yelling match now, "We're talking about Kate!" He rushed out leaving all of us surrounded by half lit and unlit candles.

Chapter Text

It was a while later but Tyler, Reid and I stayed behind looking at the book while Caleb went to see Sarah back at the dorms, “Look at that, ‘Those who’ve willed away, will fade quickly, those who have been gifted the power should be sacrificed to return the power and restore the balance’ you don’t think?” We looked between each other as I answered Tyler, “He’s here to take your powers.” They knew now why he was here, “But if he knows about yours too, then?”

It was a scary thought, but it went away when Reid kissed my neck to try and keep me distracted, “Guys come on, really? You gotta do this right now?” The haze began to set again and we ended up having a full on make-out session with me up against the wall as Tyler had run out of the space with his hands shielding his eyes from us. “No. No. No.”

“I’ll see you two later! Probably can’t even hear me…”

The haze or blaze as the book called it lasted over an hour, it was an intense feeling and the aftermath was even more intense leaving the two of us with another searing flash of pain. We were branded again but this time we were branded to each other, the same rune from the book; eternal love.

“Fuck I think I love you…” I looked over to Reid, succumbing to the urge to give him a soft kiss, “I you, loverboy.”

“Hey guys, I stopped hearing the ghoulish noises a while ago so I thought I’d come get both of you,” We were thankfully clothed, rushed to put our clothes back on after the effects had faded off, “Is everything okay?” We had pulled away from each other entirely and followed him up the long winding staircase that led to the cellar of the old main house. “For the moment yes but before I came back down here I felt someone use, I doubt it was you two but I think it’s you know who.”

We were halfway up the stairs when I had to stop, leaning against the stone wall, “Some, somethings wrong, my sister, I can’t feel her anymore…”

Chapter Text

Something was definitely wrong, “Before coming here I gave her a talisman, it links us, it’s a small charm on her necklace,” I couldn’t feel her at all, “She might be okay, hold up one second its Caleb.” Reid's phone had been ringing for less than a minute when he picked up, “Shit, is he okay?” The conversation went on for a few minutes only to end with an urgency, “Pogue was in an accident, Caleb said he confronted Chase on the way to the hospital on the highway, he’s not doing too good but he’ll survive.”

“Fuck! I’m going to Pogue and Sarah, find Caleb, make sure your sister is okay, if he’s gone after Pogue and Sarah we’re gonna want to be extra careful, remember! The book said you’re stronger together, you’re bonded now, we all are!” We watched him run off to his vehicle before hopping on my bike, Reid drove us back to the dorms with me clinging to his back, I was internally freaking out and being in contact with him was the only thing keeping me sane.

We arrived at my sister's dorm after a long drive, I flung the door open with fire in my eyes, “Let’s just keep this between the Sons of Ipswich.” My eyes landed on the bed after seeing Caleb, “Sarah…” I watched Chase lean back on the bed and put his arm around my sister. I was frozen in my spot watching him, a spider appeared from under his hand and crawled over Sarah's chest, “Don’t hurt her. She has nothing to do with this.” I almost lost it but Reid grabbed my arm keeping me in my spot.

“Whether she lives or dies is entirely up to you, my friends. You can’t imagine what it was like growing up not knowing what this was. When I finally found my real father, he filled in all the missing pieces. But it was too late. I was hooked. By then, he was such a bitter old man… or, I should say, bitter, old, young man…that all he wanted to do was end the suffering. Like all our bloodline before us he was more than willing to break the laws of your sacred little club. So I got him to give me his share of The Power.“

I watched the spider crawl into Sarah’s ear and grotesque purple lines started to cover her face, “Sarah…” Chase wasn’t paying attention to me only Caleb, I didn’t know what he had done to Sarah so far but when I saw the spider crawl into her I paled and slumped slightly right into Reid's arms. “And he died, knowing that his son was going to get revenge…on your Covenant. But you little y/n aren't from the Ipswich bloodlines, you could join me, combine our lines with me.”

“She's not going anywhere with you,” Reid took an angry step forward putting me slightly behind him, “You keep her in that spell, and she’ll die.” He turned his attention back to Caleb and smiled, “I know.”
I couldn’t keep my mouth shut, “What is this all about? I mean, what do you want? She did nothing wrong…”

“Want?” Chase stood up suddenly, throwing the night table next to the bed aside. I watched him slowly approach us at that moment, “I’m Chase Collins. I have everything I could possibly want. It’s what I need. More power.” He turned his head to look at Caleb and pointed, “tomorrow night, birthday boy…at the exact moment when you ascend…be at Putnam Barn…where you will, will me your power.”

The book talked about this, his ascension power, “Do that, and I’ll let her live. And Pogue, Kate, Reid and Tyler and your mom…and what’s left of the families. And don’t think I won’t kill them. It comes natural to me. Just ask my adoptive parents.” He stopped for a second, turning his eyes to me and Reid, “And you my dearest will be mine, just imagine how powerful our children could be, we’ll be… We could even live forever…”
I held onto Reid's arm when I felt his energy surge, he was beyond livid and I was completely disgusted, “You killed that kid at the Dells.”

I started whispering sweet nothings in his ear promising I was Reid that I was his and only his as Caleb kept talking to Chase keeping his eyes off of me, “Well, he caught me doing a little magic. At first, he wasn’t sure, but then, well, he just wouldn’t leave it alone. So I caught a ride with him over to the bonfire.”

Through the corner of my eye I saw my sister’s body twitching under Chase's gaze and I yelled at him, “Stop it, my sister has nothing to do with any of this!”

He became angry at that moment, “Your sister? She’s a mortal, a disgusting human, but you, you are different, don’t you see that, we’re different.” Her body began twitching more intensely as his anger grew watching me, “What are you doing?”

“Just making sure I’m making my point.” He flashed his eyes black to further his point, Caleb’s eyes went black to match his, stepping forward.

Chase sends Caleb hurling toward the ceiling, and he pins him there for a second before sliding him across it, before slamming him to the floor. Then, he sends Caleb flying across the room into the bathroom, smashing into the mirror.

Caleb's form is lying on the ground covered in shards of glass as Chase walks towards him, laughing gleefully. “Do you see my problem here? I like to use, a lot. Only…no one ever told me about…the effects…and the damage, the addiction and we both know what happens now, don’t we? So, the way I see it…I add your power to what I already have.”

I wanted to help so badly but we were quite literally frozen to that spot in front of the door because of this deranged warlock, “It won’t stop the aging. Your father obviously found out the hard way.” Chase angrily grabs his jacket collar, growling at him, “My father never had this kind of power.” We could only watch on as we held each other's hands, “It doesn’t work like that. It’s the body that wears down, not the power.”

“Just think of yourself as a sacrificial lamb. Hell…you’re already their golden boy. Why not go out a real hero? So tomorrow night, the barn. Where it all started. A birthday party. Just you and me. It’s either you…or them…brother.” Chase kissed Caleb on the lips before walking toward the door, with the mirror fixing itself at his departure.

What the fuck just happened, “I’ll see you soon y/n…”

“Don’t leave her like that. She’ll die, please...” I watched him look at me in thought before having mercy on her, his eyes glowing only for a second. The purple lines disappeared from Sarah’s face while Chase leaves.
Sarah stirred as we all walked over, “What happened?”

“You passed out when I told you…” She was completely out of it as I hugged her, my face hidden in her shoulder, “What?” She blinked a few times trying to come to terms with her current reality, “Pogue’s been in an accident, Reid and y/n just got here,” she had started registering everything, finally remembering “Is he okay?”

Chapter Text

We eventually made it to the hospital in Gloucester, after the night we already had it was bound to get a bit worse, “Tyler!” I rushed over to him along with the others, he was in the waiting room with his head between his knees, an asthma attack or something similar attacking his lungs by the looks of it.

At the sound of my voice and our feet he stood up rushing into a hug with Tyler and I, “Pogue?” He had barely pointed towards the room he was in, it was a few doors down. A doctor appeared having exited the room with a quick stride towards us, “I assume this is the rest of the friend group? One at a time please and nothing to distress him any further…”

I watched him walk off as Caleb came to the front of our group and pat Tyler's shoulder, “I’ll be right back.” We waited for a few minutes, Tyler had finally calmed down now that we were all here. Reid and I were sitting next to him talking about how bad he was, “A concussion and a few broken bones, he twisted his arm also so they had to reset it so, yeah…”

I rubbed his shoulder as Reid stood up and paced, I felt a tap on mine in that next second and turned to see my sister. She pointed towards the bathroom and whispered to me with a hand gesture around her face, “I’ll be right back, I need a refresh, on my face.” Not before long Caleb had come back to the waiting room with a slightly distressed expression. “How is he?” I would have choked it up to him being tired since it was the middle of the night but I knew better.

“He’s hurt pretty bad. Where’s Sarah?” He was looking around for her but she needed a minute to herself, “She’s in the bathroom, needed to splash her face with some cold water,” He barely gave a nod as Reid puffed up, becoming all pissed off and menacing, I grabbed his arm as Caleb tried to calm him down, “I say we all go after Chase. Right now.” My hand on him didn’t work in relaxing him, he was still upset.

“Listen, it may not be that easy. You guys stay here with Pogue. Call me if there’s a change.” My sister had just come back when he had turned to leave, causing her to start a conversation with him, “How’s Pogue?“ I only heard a bit of the conversation before they walked out of the waiting room together, “He’s not good. What about Kate? Have you heard anything?”

Their voices trailed off as I turned to Tyler and Reid, “Tyler? Why don’t you go see Pogue first, yeah?” He gave me a frantic nod as he rushed off. “We can’t just let him get away, we need to go after him, for fucks sake,” I froze, gripping him as I leant my head down for a minute, my vision blanked and my eyes went black un-intentionally.

“They stabilized her, but she’s still really sick. Caleb, look me in the eye and tell me the truth. The spiders. I read about them. They’re one of the charges against John Putnam. They’re some kind of spell, aren’t they?” It was my sister, the charm signaled me somehow for some reason suddenly making my eyes tint over. “I wanna show you something. And then I’ll explain everything.” She knew, at least she knew a bit of it and Caleb was going to show her everything I just knew he would. “Y/n?!”

I snapped back into my body at the sound of my name, “Sarah, she knows, oh my god, she… She’s going to hate me…” He was completely confused but it didn’t take him too long to realize what happened, “No she won’t…” I looked up at him as I asked him with tears forming in my eyes.

“Why wouldn’t she?”

Chapter Text

Reid had calmed me down after a short while but when my phone rang I feared the worst, my breathing stopped as I opened my phone to read the message, ‘Pogues awake, grab Reid and get in here.’

“Hey sweets, Pogues awake they want us in there…” He latched our hands together and we hurried over to his room, stopping in front of the door. I gave a soft knock as Reid kissed my head, “it’s gonna be okay I promise baby…” I turned towards him, giving him a chaste kiss as the door opened revealing Pogue sitting up in his hospital bed as Tyler sat next to him in a chair, “Pogue? How’re you feeling man?” We walked over to him but when Reid asked his question I heard Pogue’s stomach growl, “I’ma go get you some food okay… I’ll be back in a minute.”

As soon as I stepped out of the room I bumped into a tall man in a doctor's coat, his face was covered, a plastic shielding mask over his eyes and nose with a second cloth mask to cover his mouth, “I’m so sorry, do you mind if I ask where the cafeteria is? This is my first time here…” The doctor just nodded and motioned down the left side of the hallway, “Right this way, I’m going there myself…” It was an immediate sense of dread but my mind was over clouded, his voice was familiar but I couldn’t place it as I followed him.

I recognized this hallway, it was the same one I came through to get to the waiting room, unfortunately when I noticed, it was already too late and everything had gone dark. A gasp leaving my lips, my magic falling from my tongue as an effort to warn the boys still in my vicinity.

Chapter 17: Pov Switch page17

Chapter Text

Each of the Coven members stood, gathered in a living room in an old mansion, Caleb’s mother also Present and speaking to her son with exhaustion on her face, “Caleb, you cannot do this alone. We have to go to the others.” She was trying to persuade her son to not lose himself, “We can’t do that. He’ll kill us all, including you. Pogue was the final warning.” But Caleb was stubborn and the stakes were rising quickly, “We have to go to your father.”

“No. I know what you’re thinking, Mother, and you know what’ll happen.”

Surrendering one's powers can kill the surrendered, will kill them, there was no other option, “but he loves you.” Caleb's relationship with his father was complicated in many ways, always has been and always will be until their parting breaths.

“Well, then, he’ll die with that secret. Where’s Sarah?” Reid was watching everything around him, his mind foggy almost like the haze, but he was separated from his bond, almost lost in a sense without her presence. I could feel her magic lingering around me yet she wasn’t here, taken, a signature left behind by the outcast himself, Chase.

Listening to the ones around Him did nothing to calm himself, Caleb's mother speaking only annoying him further, “upstairs, changing. You should never have involved her.”

His thoughts clouded with how he let Chase take Y/n and now, there's only one way to get her back. “You’re right. But I can’t change the past… and he’s using her against me, all of you… and it’s going to stop.”

Reid looked up lost to see Caleb looking at him in a sort of pitied emotion now that he wasn’t at fault for everything going wrong and yet there were no words said about Y/n and what they would do to find her, “I want you to take Sarah to the dance. I’ll meet you there. I don’t think he’ll try anything in the open.”

He was talking to Reid and Tyler, ignoring anything else from his mother, not wanting to fight about it, “would you just let us help you? You know we’ve got your back. Besides, he took Y/n. We need to get her back together. If not, I'll do it myself.”

“Please, just once, do what I ask. We’ll get her back. I promise, just do this for me, please.” Reid looked off with a shake of his head, anger boiling but still he nodded, making Caleb let out a sigh of relief, at that moment Sarah had walked down the stairs and Reid left walking out of the old house to wait outside with Tyler.

“Why can’t I go with you?” He turned around after waiting a few minutes when the door finally opened, Caleb and Sarah walking out together while talking, “I won’t risk you.” She was looking at him weirdly like she depended on him, it reminded Reid and Tyler of Y/n strangely, “I’m scared.” It was strange, as her sister they still looked nothing alike, which Reid guessed-, “Don’t be. I’ll see you soon.” -was a good thing, “You better.”

“I promise. Be careful. I’ll call you.”

Chapter Text

Caleb’s on the highway, speeding through as he talks to Reid, “Hey, any sign of him?” Caleb’s constantly checking the rear view mirror as they rush through their conversation, “No.” There were only two places he would show up tonight, “Good, Listen, I’m on my way. If he does show, please promise me you won’t do anything stupid. How’s Sarah doing?” It’s almost midnight and he could feel the ascension growing closer by the minute, “Yeah, she’s fine.”

All of a sudden, Chase appears out of nowhere, landing on the windshield. He stands on the hood of the car as the car screeches to a halt, no movement or words as they stare at each other. “Caleb? Caleb?” He can faintly hear Reid on the phone as Chase breaks through the windshield, sending broken glass into Caleb's face, cutting his cheek and forcing him to use his powers to keep himself from dying. “What’s your plan? You can’t beat me, you know.”

The rest of the windows crack and splinter before shattering as Chase back-flips over the car, landing in the street as Caleb answers Reid quickly. “Something’s happened.”

He hops out of the car and looks for him but he’s already gone, leaving Caleb to sigh angrily until he sees lightning strike the old Putnam barn and feels the power surging from the old building.
Immediately taking off and running towards it.

Chapter Text

It’s dark and Caleb's nervous, walking forward he’s suddenly blinded by a bright light that illuminates the barn in its entirety. Chase's voice echoes from above and he can barely pinpoint from where as he looks around for the evil warlock, “You know… I’m just getting the feeling that you’re not gonna keep up your end of the bargain, so I took out a little insurance policy.”

Cautious at his words Caleb tenses when suddenly it’s as if a veil was lifted and he’s able see Sarah’s sister suspended in the air in an enchanted sleep. Unfortunately unable to see if she’s injured or not as he looks at her with wide eyes but before he could go to her Chase speaks again, “she does look quite stunning.”

“You touch her, and she dies. In fact, time’s running out for y/n and who knows what Sarah will think when she sees the lifeless corpse of her beloved baby sister. So why don’t we get down to business?” His words make Caleb angry and his eyes go black as his magic courses to every nerve he has ready to be used.

“What happened to wanting her? Didn’t think you’d be willing to kill someone you claimed as yours,” Chase scoffs, “it’d be a shame if she died, but you forget Caleb, what I’m here for isn’t her, she’s just a little added benefit…” His laugh is unnerving as Caleb glares heatedly, magic making his eyes flicker back and forth.

“Ooooooooo witchy. Oops, wait. Did I just say, “witch”? All right. Tell you what. I’ll make this easy for you. How about an accident? You lose control of your car on the way to the pathetic little dance. Trust me. I’m good at car accidents. Everyone Will miss you. They’ll say great things about you. Only the Covenant will know the real truth. But, to them, you’ll become a legend. The one who gave his life for them.”

“How about you let her go, and I let you live out your life?”

“How about I make you my “weyotch”?”

“I’ll never will you my power.” Caleb stepped forward holding his stance strongly, “Then it looks like trouble for y/n.”

“I’ll never let that happen.” He glares while watching the look on Chase's face turn annoyed and angry, “Fine. Let’s do it your way.” Chase sends Caleb flying suddenly, his back hitting a support column.

Chase attacks again, repeatedly punching and hitting him telekinetically with waves of power. Intent on forcing him to submit or die, either was having the same outcome with a corpse left behind…

“Like taking candy from a baby.” Caleb starts fighting back using similar tactics as a way to stun him or match the attacks and waste Chase's body faster.

Within seconds they’re sending shock waves of power at each other. However, Chase quickly gets the upper hand, using his willed energy to drag Caleb towards him with invisible ropes. Then, once again, Caleb's crashing to the ground in a heap of bruised skin and aching bones.

Slowly he pulls himself to his feet as Chase keeps spewing words, “Easy as pie.”

Chase uses his powers to then force Caleb to a pole and pins him there tightly as as the boy begins to struggle weakly, but then everything stops.

A bolt of light hits Caleb suddenly as the clock hits midnight and suspends him in midair. He’s in agony and screams as a strong power takes over, “Are we ascending? Finally!” Chase’s call out and taunt only make Caleb look down at him as the magic takes its control of him in the moment making him grunt and yell at the pain of overwhelming power.

“Scary, huh, Caleb… this new power you get when you ascend? Frankly, I don’t think you’re cut out for it. So why don’t we just call it a night? Just say the words.”

The ascension completes, and Caleb falls to the ground. Immediately shooting forward with his hand stretched outwards, sending Chase flying backward and knocking over a lantern at the same time, catching the barn on fire. Caleb continuously sends hits to Chase, forcing him to dodge them as he replies with a grin.

“Okay, I’m a little impressed. Not bad.” He nods as if he’s impressed with Caleb but the smirk on his face is playful, “Thanks.” He laughs again as he sends him flying, “Trying to impress your date’s sister, huh?”
Dodging another attack, Chase then hurtles a heavy piece of machinery towards him as Caleb sends a pitchfork his way, barely side stepping the frame of metal as he catches the pitchfork and throws it back. Unable to block it, it crashes into a pile of broken wood behind Caleb.

Extricating himself from the pile and trying to crawl past Chase just as he kneels down next to him with taunting words, “you ready to say uncle?”

“I’m ready for you to go to hell.” His eyes flash as they look to where y/n is still suspended in the air. Chase stands up and once again throws Caleb with his powers, pushing him, this time through the outside wall of the barn into the mud and rain. Forced to stay lying on the ground with difficulty breathing as the rain pelts against his battered skin, his chest hurting intensely as he lets out a concerning cough.

Chase approaches him out of the corner of blurry eyes and speaks, “Just say the words. Say the words, and it’s all over.”

He’s forced to sit and watch as Chase kneels before him, almost on top of his body before grabbing his face harshly, his fingers digging into skin as he yells at Caleb, “Come on! Say it! Say the words! “I…”

“I…”

“… will you…”

“… will you… nothing.”

Caleb kicks Chase off, shocking him and watching as he flips back into the damp soil, rolling in it as Caleb struggles to stand up. Suddenly feeling a gush of magic and strength, renewing himself as Chase crawls to his knees.

With pure adrenaline beginning to course through his body he stands on his feet unwavering. Caleb's no longer just deflecting the magic Chase throws at him but throwing it back with more force. It’s affecting him, the force of it finally making him crash back to the ground on his stomach.

The fight turns ugly and Chase decides to throw one last power bomb to try and turn the tide to win but as it sails through the air Caleb creates a barrier with his hands, hopefully strong enough to catch it, and he does.
A bolt of lightning striking him abruptly, and suddenly the power envelops him, coursing through Caleb's veins with new magic that he didn’t have before.

Chase watches, dismayed at the sight, turning angry quickly. Catching his movements, Caleb watches as he tries to run towards him, but before he can get close he’s sent flying backwards into the burning barn with a gust of magic before he vanishes.

Within seconds Caleb is moving forward, chasing after his body and unlucky in finding him, Chase disappeared…

Eyes at last landed on the girl, “y/n?” Grasping at her he lifted her up with a wince before carrying her body out of the burning barn in a slugged rush.

The only noise being Caleb’s labored breath over the burning flames behind him, headlights clouding his vision as the jeep arrived, coming to a sharp stop before us, the brakes screeching into the grass filled with kicked up gravel.

The sight of Sarah, Tyler and Reid hopping out and running over causing his tension to melt slightly. Magic was still present in the air behind him, setting sparks in the already roaring fire, making it stronger as it popped and blew up the side.

“Caleb! y/n!”

Chapter Text

“We searched the entire area. We didn’t find anybody.”

“How can that be? Where is he?”

“I don’t know.” Reid scoffs, “Who cares, if he’s still alive we’ll find him,” Caleb waves his hand over his windshield fixing it quickly as I open my eyes, blinded by light and noise. “Reid?”

“Y/n,” I looked up at him to see that I was being held against him in the backseat of the jeep, “What’s wrong Reid?” I tilt my head slightly, a bare pain dulled and almost non-existent making me blink a few times, “Right now?”

“Nothing now that you’re back in my arms,” I looked up into his eyes and smiled as he stared back into mine, “You’re so lucky I love you…” His face turned to a different emotion and his eyes flashed orange as a haze began to take over, different than the other times, but still a haze of sorts, our energies mixing together before us. Something I realized that could possibly keep happening to us…maybe even forever.
