Trouble Don't

Summary:

"Trouble, don't you come my way. Oh, no, not today. Trouble, don't you come my way."
~ "Trouble Don't," AG

In which everyone is exactly where they're meant to be, but the calm is often before the worst of the storm.

Follows Season 3 of 9-1-1: Lone Star, Season 21 of Law & Order, and Season 10 of Chicago Fire. Second in The First Responders Files.

Notes:

Red threads of fate tangle on, and Owen Strand finds himself heading the department that has now added two more of Chicago's finest to its ranks. With Ladder 126 under the command of Matt Casey and Tommy Vega and Squad 9 in the capable hands of Kelly Severide and Sylvie Brett, Owen readies for the task of taking the helm of the Austin Fire Department as Deputy Chief.

In Chicago, Greg Grainger and Jason Pelham have quite the shoes to fill, and with one of their best friends now running the department's paramedics, they now find themselves at the heart of 51's most intense calls, some of which bring them into alliance with Wendy Seager. Taking over positions held by Casey and Severide is no easy feat.

And in New York, the fallout of the sniper attack in Los Angeles brings a new player into the field on Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler's side: Executive Assistant District Attorney Nolan Price, the charismatic and dangerous handpicked, righthand man of Jack McCoy and brother of Sylvie. With Nolan comes the Manhattan North Homicide Squad, and some of New York's worst are destined to learn of the consequences that come with challenging New York's finest.

***

Welcome to the second file in this crazy series, where we pull away from 9-1-1 (sadly, since Buck, Eddie, and Maddie now reside in Austin) in favor of Law & Order and forming even more bonds between everyone from Manhattan to Austin to Chicago. More Chicago Silver Trio shenanigans, more Nolan and Sylvie goodness, more delving into the Lawful Chaotics that are Owen, Liv, and Elliot (though I think that accurately describes Frank, too . . . ) and who could forget poor Matt, Kelly, Eddie, and Carlos having to rein in Team Dumbass? Yeah . . . good luck with that, boys. You're gonna need it.

In the wise words of Adam Savage, everyone . . . here comes chaos!

Chapter 1: Prologue

Summary:

I swear, they're not usually this gossip-y. It's just . . . it's the Lone Star fam they're talking about here. When isn't there gossip?

Notes:

Disclaimer: I do not own 9-1-1: Lone Star, 9-1-1, One Chicago, or the L&O franchise.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Fuego Amigos

Fire Squaddie: It has occurred to me that we can’t use “when hell freezes over” anymore

Fire Cop: Why not?

Fire Medic: Check the news

Fire Medic: It’s breaking all over the place

Fire Cop: Why is it always Austin

Fire Squaddie: Better question

Fire Squaddie: Why is it always Casey and Severide

Fire Medic: And Brett

Fire Squaddie: Yes and Brett

Fire Cop: I thought based on everyone’s thoughts it’s also Buck and TK . . .

Fire Medic: Both Strands

Fire Squaddie: And where Brett goes

Fire Squaddie: Diaz is right behind her

Fire Cop: Which brings us back to my question

Fire Squaddie: . . .

Fire Squaddie: Yeah yours was better

Fire Medic: Of all the times for Casey and Severide to get down there

Fire Squaddie: And isn’t Casey still floating?

Fire Medic: Last I heard

Fire Cop: What the hell takes so long for them to rebuild a firehouse?

Fire Squaddie: Money

Fire Medic: Scheduling conflicts

Fire Squaddie: An ice storm probably doesn’t help either

Fire Squaddie: At least Severide’s still with Buck and TK

Fire Squaddie: Anyone know where Marwani ended up?

Fire Medic: Back with Ryder and Strickland, I think

Fire Medic: Chavez had to go back to the 129

Fire Squaddie: Good God

Fire Cop: Pretend I never had a running chat with Casey and Severide at that time

Fire Cop: What’s wrong with the 129

Fire Squaddie: They essentially turned Chavez into Cinderella pre-fairy godmother

Fire Cop: Bastards

Fire Medic: Casey’s been checking in on him though

Fire Medic: Apparently he made quite an impression on the captain

Fire Cop: Casey or the 129’s captain?

Fire Medic: Yes

Fire Medic: Chavez is having a better time apparently

Fire Cop: Good

Fire Cop: So other than a whole bunch of ice slamming into the state and no 126 yet, all’s good

Fire Squaddie: Sounds like it

Fire Medic: . . .

Fire Squaddie: Greg

Fire Squaddie: What do you know that we don’t

Fire Medic: There may be a little trouble in paradise

Fire Cop: Brett Casey and Severide? Seriously?

Fire Medic: Not them

C Cubed

Cop: See here’s the thing

Cop: At least a volcano sort of made sense

Cop: Not an ice storm

Captain: You really think this is the craziest thing that could happen in Austin?

Counselor: You really want to tempt fate?

Cop: ^

Captain: Good point

Captain: All I’m saying is catch up on Los Angeles’ disasters

Counselor: Buck already gave me that rundown

Counselor: How is he not dead

Cop: We ask the same thing

Cop: Then we remember who his captain is

Cop: Was

Cop: I need to get used to calling Owen a chief now . . .

Captain: Radford’s still in charge for now right?

Cop: He’s easing Owen into the duties

Cop: Something out in the hillier part of the country?

Counselor: I bet he loves that

Cop: You know Owen

Cop: What a nature lover

Captain: Austin’s grown on him though

Captain: At least TK now knows not to fall into a corn silo

Counselor: I never thought I would ever be having these types of conversations with you

Counselor: Ever

Captain: Welcome to having an adrenaline junkie as a member of your family

Captain: I’ve had to deal with Owen’s shenanigans for over twenty years

Captain: Then TK joined the department

Cop: Tyler’s actually been worse in some situations

Captain: But he and Owen have now both been shot

Cop: Right

Counselor: No one would ever believe me when I say the two of you are such gossips

Captain: Hey now

Captain: We gossip about important things only

Cop: Such as our family in Austin

Captain: Speaking of which

Captain: Does Sylvie know anything about the breakup?

Counselor: It also says how little a social life I have that I know exactly which breakup you mean

Captain: Rollins and Carisi are still going strong

Captain: I’m still with Peter

Captain: Fin and Phoebe are happy throwing away the idea of getting married

Captain: Am I missing anyone?

Cop: That’s everyone in New York

Counselor: From what I can tell no one knows anything

Counselor: It’s pretty tight-lipped down there

Captain: Drat

Cop: Why did I get called “cop” in this again?

Counselor: It was the only C that fit

Cop: Liv’s a cop too

Captain: I’ve got the higher rank you idiot

Counselor: Unless you want to use Detective

Counselor: Then it’s not C cubed anymore

Counselor: We’d just be another version of the CDC

Cop: . . .

Cop: You know –

Captain: And there’s the resemblance to Sylvie

Counselor: I can’t tell if that was an insult or not

Counselor: But I’ll take it

Cop: Sap

Counselor: Only for my sister, thank you very much

Boss Squad

Court Boss: So out of curiosity

Court Boss: Who here would believe me when I say Benson and Stabler are gossips

Ladder Boss: Depends on the context

Squad Boss: Maybe?

Medic Boss: Yes

Court Boss: My sister is my favorite

Squad Boss: That’s obvious

Squad Boss: But to Matt’s point

Squad Boss: What’s the context

Court Boss: I think they’re trying to figure out if they need to kill Carlos or not?

Ladder Boss: Ah

Ladder Boss: The breakup situation

Court Boss: That

Squad Boss: TK hasn’t said anything to me

Squad Boss: Then again I’m his boss now so

Squad Boss: Not sure he would on the job

Squad Boss: And he hasn’t said anything off the job either

Ladder Boss: You two see him more than I do now

Ladder Boss: I swear the brass has me teleporting all over the city right now

Ladder Boss: I wonder if this how Pelham felt as a floater . . .

Court Boss: That leaves?

Medic Boss: Direct quote

Medic Boss: “I’m not going to tell you why we broke up, Sylvie”

Medic Boss: And I can’t even tell who did the breaking up

Medic Boss: And if Eddie knows anything on Carlos’s side he’s not saying

Court Boss: So same as before

Court Boss: Nothing

Medic Boss: Sorry to disappoint the second parents

Medic Boss: On another note

Medic Boss: Any chance they could get us out of this stupid company

Medic Boss: Eddie and I are going to go insane if we stay any longer

Court Boss: Vega and Gillian are there too, right?

Medic Boss: Yes

Medic Boss: But I think Nancy has already gone insane

Court Boss: Touché

Court Boss: They still couldn’t find a house for you?

Medic Boss: Not with extra room for another ambulance

Squad Boss: At least the 137 is close enough that we sometimes get the same calls

Squad Boss: And I’m grateful Chief Abrams was able to rotate his crews to give us room

Squad Boss: But a three-man team feels weird

Squad Boss: I miss Marwani

Ladder Boss: I miss Ryder, Strickland and Chavez

Medic Boss: I miss everyone

Court Boss: I’d fly down to visit

Court Boss: But according to every meteorologist on the planet that’s not a good idea

Court Boss: And I think Jack might actually ground me if I tried

Ladder Boss: . . .

Ladder Boss: Ground you?

Court Boss: You haven’t met Jack

Medic Boss: You really haven’t

Ladder Boss: Well now I want to

Squad Boss: So you can see him ground Nolan?

Ladder Boss: You know me so well

Court Boss: Go to hell

Medic Boss: We’re already in it

Medic Boss: And it’s frozen over

Court Boss: For God’s sake –

Squad Boss: You walked right into that one Nolan

Ladder Boss: Point Sylvie

Medic Boss: Sorry Nolan

Medic Boss: But seriously

Medic Boss: Someone get us out of here

Ladder Boss: Mother Nature has never been kind to us, has it?

Court Boss: Didn’t the dust storm happen on your watch, too?

Medic Boss: So what you’re getting at is they’re the problem

Court Boss: Exactly

Squad Boss: Ouch

Ladder Boss: We should all be in an insane asylum at this point

Medic Boss: I’d take that over this company

Medic Boss: I hope Owen takes over soon

Medic Boss: I want my firehouse back

Notes:

Well, can you tell where we're starting off, folks? XD

We've gone through a time jump so we're at the point Lone Star S3 began. Because of that, baby Brian Cruz has been born, and I promise we will meet the little guy. Other than that, most of what happened in Chicago will get backed up to coincide with the other shows, starting with "Counting Your Breaths."

Not quite sure when the first episode will be out, but when it is, it'll be "The Big Chill!"
