Summary
He’ll never know.
What he does know is that it’s a normal fire until it isn’t. Until the water Eddie blinked from his eyes starts coming down a little harder. Until Eddie notices that Buck’s attention on the hose has slackened, the man now looking up at the roiling sky above him. Until there’s a flash, a thunderous boom, the feeling of Eddie’s tailbone bruising aggressively against the pavement.
Until he looks up and sees his boyfriend hanging from a ladder, unmoving. Until he’s shaking the tingling from his hands and racing up the ladder unharnessed.
It’s a normal fire until Buck’s heart stops for 3 minutes and 17 seconds.
