Fucking Karaoke night Atsushi would much rather be anywhere else right now, but Dazai had somehow managed to convince Fukuzawa that this would be a good "team bonding activity," like this team needed anymore bonding. Dazai was just hell-bent on annoying everyone as always. He first came up with the idea a few weeks ago when he started harassing Kunkidia with the idea. Originally he just wanted to torture Kunkidia and get him to sing, but of course, as always, Atsushi got roped into it. Dazai just loved to annoy everyone around him, but Kunkidia and Atsushi were the most common victims of his bullshit. Atsushi denies Dazai's "request" to go to Karaoke with him and Kunkidia. But in true Dazai fashion, he proceeded to bother them about it for the next few weeks. Today was different though; Dazai had gotten the brilliant idea to tell Fukuzawa about the idea and frame it as team bonding time, and of course Fukuzawa just had to agree. Now Atsushi was forced to go—well, technically not forced, but he felt as if he had to. He owed a lot to the agency, but he still felt like he wasn't allowed to say no to anything. He'd gotten to the point where he could say no to little things like Dazai trying to rope him into something just to piss off Kunkidia but not things like saying no to a certain someone's paperwork when they didn't feel like doing it and especially not a request from Fukuzawa, but fuck, why did it have to be today of all days? He got into another fight with Akutagawa last night, and he couldn't stop thinking about it. He shouldn't be this bothered. They fight all the time; it's beyond clear that Akutagawa wants him dead, but fuck—he really thought they were getting somewhere with this. They had been tolerating each other for weeks now, and they'd even begun being kind of friendly and nice to each other. Akutagawa even said he had done a good job on the other, which made Atsushi feel unbelievably happy. It was probably just because Akutagawa was finally starting to like him, or so he thought. Ever since that fight, even though it wasn't any different from their other fights, Atsushi couldn't help but feel like it was all for nothing. The whole thing made him so unreasonably mad; he was so tired of Akutagawa being nice to him and then trying to kill him again, like every good moment they had together was just—nothing. Atsushi got snapped out of his thoughts by everyone arguing and raising their voices over what songs sucked and who had better music taste; it started because someone, Atsushi guessed, told Ranpoto put on Taylor Swift. Atsushi could care less what song they chose; he wasn't going to sing, and even if Dazai forced him to, he wouldn't actually sing; he was just going to say the words. Or at least that's what he thought until he actually started listening to the lyrics of the song, which he could barely hear over the pointless arguing.
"I guess you didn't care
And I guess I liked that.
And when I fell hard,
You took a step back.
Without me
Without me
Without me-"
Shit that—that reminded him a lot of him and Akutagawa. Fuck it, if Dazai wanted him and Kunkidia to sing, he was going to give him part of what he wanted (he respected Kunkidia a lot, so he wasn't going to try to annoy him like Dazai.) Besides, Atsushi needed some way to get his feelings out, and Dazai's excuse to piss everyone off was the healthiest way he could think of. Atsushi grabbed a mic and just started singing; he'd gotten really into it, to the point he was practically screaming the lyrics. Everyone stopped arguing and just stared at him. Dazai had the most dumbfounded look on his face, and Kunkidia took a picture of it to show Atsushi later. Kenji didn't really care; he just started cheering Atsushi on, and after a bit, Yosnao and Kyouka joined in with Kenji. Ranpo had been expecting this—well, maybe not this exactly, but he couldn't tell something was up with Atsushi, and you could bet he knew it was about Akutagawa too. Fukuzawa didn't know what to think, so he just didn't say anything. It wasn't till after the song ended that Atsushi realized what he just did and how everyone was looking at him. He felt mortified; he was so embarrassed—why the fuck did he do that? He was about to apologize, but Dazai interpreted him, with a shit-eating grin on his face.
"Told you I'd get you to sing!"
"Oh my God please just shut the fuck up, Dazai."
Once again Dazai starred at Atsushi with the same dumbfounded look from earlier. Ranpo was dying laughing as Atsushi frantically tried to apologize.
"Dazai I'm so sorry I didn't mean that I spoke without thinking i-"
Dazai started laughing too and just told Atsushi not to apologize. The rest of the night was everyone in the agency teasing Atsushi about screaming to Talyor Swift. Every time they went to pick another song it was all Taylor Swift and Ranpo purposely chose bad blood and said it would be perfect for Atsushi. Atsushi felt like dying on the spot but he was right. Screaming to Taylor swift worked, he felt a lot better even if he was never going to live this down.
