Summary:

Jay realizes he's in love with Scott after the events of the Prime Empire, and confesses his feelings a month later at night

Notes:

Well, this is my first time posting on ao3, so please don't be too hard on me
I wrote this article back in January and decided to post it now because I finally saw that someone had written Digibolt

English is not my native language, so I used a translator
I apologize for all the grammar mistakes here,I'm still practicing my writing

Anyway, enjoy!
(Thank you from the bottom of my heart for each comment and kudo)

Work Text:

It had been a month since Unagami and Milton Dyer had made up, and Jay hadn't seen Scott again, and frankly, he missed him a little
He thinks back almost every night to the time they spent in that garage at the Prime Empire, working on cars together, forming the League of Jay, or Scott's smile when he took off his hat...

...... what he's thinking about

Jay shook his head, trying to clear his head, he had finished his night patrol, now it was time to go back
He walked alone on the viaduct, the night in Ninjago City was always so quiet, the neon lights on the street only showed him the way

It was close to the sea, and the salty breeze blew lightly on the blue ninja's face, unconsciously relaxing his tense nerves
But it wasn't long before the steady airflow around him was suddenly disturbed, bringing a gust of wind that blew his curly hair out of place, and all he heard was the rumble of the motorcycle.

He reached out and smoothed out the hair that was blocking his vision and saw a guy in front of him wearing a helmet and black clothes, riding on a motorcycle

Before he had a chance to speak, the other party took off his helmet, revealing a familiar face
It was Scott.

"Hi Jay, long time no see" Scott smiled at him, his eyes were shining and he looked very happy
Jay froze, he never thought he would run into Scott at this time
"Scott? It's really you!"

He was so surprised that he rushed forward to check, and found that Scott had faded from his image in the Prime Empire, his eyes were no longer a dazzling orange, but a thick, dark brown
His skin was also normal, and there was no triangle of oil paint on the sides of his face, he was just still wearing the same suit

I don't know why, but the first reaction in Jay's head was actually "so handsome..." and he wasn't about to dismiss it

"Yeah, it's me, Bluebird... Why are you still out at this hour?"
"You're not either" Jay pretended to be angry and patted him on the shoulder: "I just finished my night patrol"
"Yeah, well, good work," Scott nodded in relief, then he turned his face away and stared at the sea for a moment in thought

"You want to go for a ride? I'll give you a ride," Scott said out of the blue
"Now? Where can I go in the middle of the night?" Jay looked at him in disbelief
"Anywhere, I like to ride at night" Scott grunted

After a moment of movement, he heard Jay's voice climbing into the back seat: "I think I agree"
"Hold me tight and let's go" he said as he put his helmet back on, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly at the feel of his hands

A motorcycle speeding down the highway, the scenery on both sides in reverse, the wind in the face some sting, but still can not stop Jay's excitement
His heart was racing, and he even had the illusion that Scott would take him straight away

He pressed his head against the other man's back, feeling Scott's body heat, which seemed to resonate with his heart
It wasn't that he hadn't ridden in a car with Scott before, but that time was more of an accident, an encounter about a chase, an escape, and the beginning of his story with the other man

Jay cast his eyes to the scenery on either side and realized that they had unknowingly exited New Town and reached Old Street

"Scott, where are you taking me?" Jay asked curiously
"You'll find out in a minute" Scott smiled

A few minutes later, the motorcycle stopped in front of a pub
The pub looked a bit old, but it was neat and tidy because it wasn't as crowded as other places, so it seemed relatively quiet

"We're here," Scott said as he parked the motorcycle and jumped off.
Jay hurriedly followed him down, then saw Scott wink at him and led him inside

They sat down at the bar, Scott asked for a whiskey, then turned his head and asked, "Want one?"
Jay shook his head in a panic and said, "No, I don't really drink."

Scott smiled and pushed the drink to him: "That's okay, we're here to drink today"
He poured another glass and pushed it in front of Jay

Jay hesitated for a moment, finally took the glass of wine, said: "Thanks then"

He tilted his head and drained the whiskey, then felt a fire burning in his belly
Jay's face gradually rose to red, he adjusted his breathing, saw Scott still leisurely drinking, could not help but inwardly sigh at the other party's drinking capacity

"How have you been doing lately?" Jay, after all, had a stomach full of questions and couldn't help but break the silence first

"I'm ah, pretty good."

"Well...are you used to this place? I mean, Ninjago City now," Jay poured another glass and slowly sipped his drink

"Sure, I'm adjusting well" Scott looked at him with a smile in his eyes as he rested his head in his hands

Jay was blurred by the smile, did not know what to say for a while, just continue to drink
Scott also did not say anything, and silently looked at Jay's red cheeks because of the excessive drinking

"Ah...by the way, I need to say thank you to you ah"
After a period of silence, Jay was already half-drunk, and he half-slumped on the table, holding the cup in his hand:

"If I hadn't met you, maybe I would have died in the Prime Empire"

Scott's eyes instantly widened, looking at him incredulously, his mind thought a lot, but finally only spat out one sentence.
"...we are friends, and you saved me that time."

"Unfortunately, that's not the answer I wanted to hear," Jay sighed, his eyes filled with loss
"What?" Scott didn't respond.

Perhaps because he was drunk, Jay was thinking outside the box at the moment, he lifted his head out of the crook of his arm, his blue eyes seemed to have electric currents in them, and Scott couldn't help but admire their beauty from the bottom of his heart
"Friend...you ......" he said in a slurred voice, Scott couldn't quite hear him

Jay smiled, pointed to the tip of his nose, and said, "I mean, Scott...don't you think I owe you a life?"

"You?" Scott frowned in confusion, not quite understanding what he was talking about, "Since when do you owe me your life?"

Jay's face seemed to redden even more, his freckles particularly prominent, and he leaned a little closer to him:
"When we...went to the Speedway Five Billion."

Scott suddenly realized, he remembered, the day they went to the competition, he stayed in the garage to break the back, that's when he was hit by the Red Visors, turned into energy blocks

"More than that, you've helped me a lot, dodging chases...forming alliances...providing vehicles"
"I think I should give you something back," Jay whispered

'I did it because it was you'
The words didn't come out of Scott's mouth, he knew Jay was special in his own mind and always gave him extra ideas

"It's just a shame I have nothing but myself"
He finished the last half of his drink
"So the only way to take responsibility is to marry you, huh?"
Jai said and collapsed on the bar

Scott froze in his chair and it took him a while to come around
He was so taken aback that he didn't believe Jay's words, thinking he was just drunk and confused about what he thought, and was just about to joke when he heard a faint .

"...anyway, there's no one else I...want to marry...besides you."

"...... Jay?"
Scott asked tentatively

No response
He gently shook the other man again, only the sound of steady breathing passing his ears

"...then, it's decided"
He smiled, then put down his glass and dropped a soft kiss on the man's forehead

After paying the bill he helped Jay out of the bar, bathed in the fresh evening breeze, restarted the motorcycle in the moonlight, and then slowly drove up the road to the convent

Jay yawned as he wrapped his arms around his waist in a daze
"Don't sleep yet Bluebird, I'm taking you back."
Scott grabbed the handlebars

His words made Jay flinch, his wine mostly awake
"Oh"
his voice was thick with sleep

"And, I love you."

Scott whispered, his voice melting into the wind through his helmet, but it was enough to make Jay let out a satisfied smile

The night was still lonely, the light of the street lamps still stretched out on the empty highway, Scott still rode at night, but from now on he would have one more person on his car
