A Bird's Eye View

Summary:

July 4th, 2021, as told by The Goose

Notes:

Enjoy this silly little masterpiece! Just like my previous work, Cutting Out the Competition, this was inspired by one of my lovely teammates.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

They would regret what they did. Everyone would. It was one thing when that family decided they “owned Midlands,” but for their uppity daughter and that foolhardy lawyer to claim they would “rule the skies” was a step too far. All of Midlands would see who was really in charge. No one would ever doubt my power ever again.

July 4th - 6:00 pm

“Hey boss,” Gary said as he waddled up to me.

“Hello Gary. What can I do for you?”

“I was wondering if you had picked which of us was going to be doing the job tonight.” He twisted his wings nervously.

“I have a couple ideas. Any suggestions?”

“I don’t dare overstep Boss, but, uh, have you considered Ronnie? He always gets the work done.”

“You know, Gary, that is exactly why I am not considering Ronnie. This job is more, eh, Jameson’s speed.”

“But Boss-”

“Trust me. We want Jameson on this.”

July 4th - 7:30 pm

A screeching squawk filled the air. “Yes! Thank you, Boss, you won’t regret this!” Jameson looked like he was about to take off then and there.

“Yes, yes, I know I won’t. Now, are you clear on your job?”

“Yeah of course. I fly at the plane, distract them a little bit, they crash, fireworks, we all celebrate your victory, badabing badaboom.”

“Correct. It’s settled then. You’ll take off in ten minutes. Gary will fly with you to find the plane, then it will be up to you to do the rest.”

Jameson saluted. “You got it, Boss!”

July 4th - 8:39 pm

I settled in to watch. The sand beneath my flippers was grating but comfortable, like my mother’s voice when I eat the last of her good branzino. “Note to self: send Gary to the fish market.” As soon as I finished my note, I heard a loud SQUAK-SQUAWK. The signal! My eyes shot up just in time to see a small white body barreling towards a small white plane. There was a loud BANG! Feathers flew everywhere, the plane jerked forward, then the whole mess spiraled toward the mountain. It was done. They wouldn’t soon forget who really ran Midlands.

Notes:

The Goose has been running Midlands for years now. Clearly, his genius schemes have been behind a lot of other crimes. Comments or ideas on his previous schemes? Let me know! I’d love to see them in the comments or on Mock Trial Confessions!
