Work Text:

They won't tell you the terrible truth
They don't know if these were their saviors or their destroyers?

Boy with rainbow fire and lightning on his fingertips
They say the lightning has burnt out everything human from him
All that is left is scales and sparks
The fire on his face a warning for those around him
Dragons are the only ones who fire can't kill
There is only so much other the body can hold before it is no longer human

Boy of steel and bone
They say he holds weapons of word and war
That the greatest (most horrifying) benders are at his command and follow him into battle
His smile shows too sharp teeth and too much red
Is this a boy or a wolf?
There is only so much other the body can hold before it is no longer human

Girl with ice and blood on her hands
They say tread carefully around her, you don't know if your body will stay its own
Kind words can hide the worst intentions
She holds power beyond your greatest fears
The whole world is made of water and she commands it with an iron fist
There is only so much other the body can hold before it is no longer human

Boy of centuries and power beyond imagination
They say he cannot die, after all not even a massacre can stop him,
All four elements hidden behind the mask of a child, 112 should not look so young
To look into his eyes is to see the pale grey of spirit realm itself
Air is the forgotten element, you won’t know he is there until your time is up
There is only so much other the body can hold before it is no longer human

Girl with stone heart and iron hands
They say not even metal can resist her command
Her eyes have clouds in them but do not assume, she feels more than you will ever see
Do not attempt to lie, she will know
Earth isn’t the only thing she destroys
There is only so much other the body can hold before it is no longer human

They say not even the spirits will keep you safe from them
After all, spirits protect their own
And everything other derives from the spirit world
Maybe every spirit dwells there
But then again, maybe five escaped

A red fire dragon
A blue water spirit
They both walk on shadows
You will not see him until it is too late

The moon guides his footsteps
And hides his intentions
It is both light and shadow
And he had a dalliance with the moon herself

One lady is painted with make-up
The other with blood
They are kind and deadly
No one knows which is which

Bridge between worlds
He shines with the light of countless lives
No one talks to monsters and comes back unchanged
Many faces can hide behind the most peaceful mask

When she crawled underground to learn, blood and earth combined
No one questioned who returned
A girl? A bandit? A bender? A spirit?
No one could tell the difference

To them, bending isn't a weapon it is an art, fatal and beautiful. No one can decide if they are filled with awe or horror.
Some things aren’t meant to be bent.

They won't tell you that when the fire lord was defeated they didn't know whether to rejoice or hide
They won't tell you that the “heroes” who took his place scared them just as much
