Alex's intervention

Summary:

Fallout from Kara finally telling Lena that she is Supergirl. They're both miserable. Alex does something about it.
This is basically my imagination of how things could/should have gone down.

Notes:

I had this idea like 2 or 3 years ago and only wrote Alex's long rant down, so I have no idea, what my brain had originally in mind for this, but I hope this is still good and makes sense. Also I'm writing this at 11pm, my brain is no longer functioning and I'm bingewatching a new series at the same time. Enjoy.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Lena was watching Supergirl on the television. She had it open for background noise, but the blonde caught her attention like always. She looked different. Maybe tired or exhausted. She just seemed different. She didn’t pause to smile or wave at the cameras or the people, like she usually would.

Suddenly she heard loud knocking coming from her front door. She hesitated for a couple seconds, since she wasn't expecting anyone. The knocks persisted, the person on the other side not letting up. Getting up from the dinner table and walking toward her apartment door, Lena let her thoughts wander to Kara again. She remembered all the lunches and surprise visits to her office where Kara would be smiling all the time. She opened the door and came face to face with a raging Alex.

"Alex?"

"Yes." Lena made the motion to invite Alex inside and shut her door.

"What are you doing here?"

"Getting my sister back."

"Getting your sister back? What do you mean?"

"I mean, my sister, who used to be all smiles and sunshine, is depressed because of your ego."

"My ego!?"

"Yeah! Your fucking ego that's too proud and hurt, by her keeping a secret she had the right to keep."

"She had no right keeping a secret like that from me, while pretending hat I was her best friend! She knew I'd been betrayed so many times in my life, but still kept her secret for years."

"She was scared of you reacting exactly like this!"

"Yeah? Well, she just proved to me, that I'm still just another Luthor. You can't trust a Luthor. She is a literal puppy. Trusts and loves everyone but a Luthor."

“Thats just it, Lena! She doesn’t. She doesn’t love freely because she can’t. She loves only a small handful of people, because she’s scared of losing them. She may be Supergirl. All confidence and hope. She may be Kara Danvers, all Sunshine and Puppies. But really she’s just Kara Zor-El. A girl who lost everything when she was thirteen. Who lost her parents, aunts and uncles, cousins, friends, teachers. Who watched her planet blow up. Leaving her as the last person in existence to remember the people of Krypton, the culture, the food, the language. She’s a girl, who’s afraid of being alone in the dark, because she spent 24 years in a pod in the phantomzone, with nothing but darkness and the memories of seeing her planet blow up. She’s a girl, who arrived on a new planet with new overwhelming powers and a cousin who should have been just a baby but was already an adult and who left her with a strange family whose language she didn’t even speak. She’s a girl, who can’t love freely, because she’s already lost it all before. So, I’m sorry she didn’t tell you sooner, but she loves you so much. So much so, that she was scared of losing you once she told you she’s Supergirl. She loves you so damn much, that she can’t handle losing you. She hasn’t slept in days, tormented by her nightmares. She hasn’t really eaten, she hasn’t smiled. She needs you. I know you love her. So, please come back to your family. Believe or not, we all miss you and we miss my sister.”

While Alex was ranting Lena had sat down on the coach processing what she was hearing.

"Wow. I had no idea"

"Yeah, no shit"

"I am so sorry. I guess all this just triggered my fight or flight instincts. But my feelings in this are still valid."

"I know. And that's why you need to go see Kara and talk this through with her. Just answer me one question."

"Okay."

"Do you love her, romantically?"

"... Yes. As much as I tried to deny it and push my feelings away, because there was no way she could ever return my feelings."

"Good. Well, not good, that you tried to push down your feelings, but good.

Now, go get your girl back."

"Are you really sure about this?"

"Yes, I am. She needs you. And you obviously need her. She is barely functioning at all right now. Well not at all, really. So, I don't care how afraid you are right now. I am taking you to my sisters apartment and you are gonna get me my sister back."

"Okay."

Shortly after, Lena and Alex arrived at Kara's building. Lena stepped off of Alex's motorcycle, so Alex could park her motorcycle. Alex noticed Lena biting her nails, so she stepped up to her and took Lena's hands in hers.

"Lena."

"Yeah."

"Stop biting your lip. Everything will be alright, okay? Look, I know it's been hell for you these past few weeks, but you can do this. Now, I will be at my apartment but I will wait until I know you're in Kara's apartment and I will know."

"Okay. Thank you."

"Of course."

----

A couple of hours later Alex was sitting on her couch, watching her favourite show. She still hadn't heard from either Kara or Lena and it was getting dark. She decided to go back to Kara's apartment and check on the couple. When she got there she waited in front of the apartment door and listened for any noises from the apartment, but she couldn't hear any, so she decided to investigate further. Taking the key Kara had given her, she opened the front door as quietly as she could and stepped into the apartment.

The scene that greeted her melted her heart. The two girls were lying intertwined on the couch. Lenas face buried in Kara's chest and fast asleep. Kara had noticed Alex 'breaking' in and turned her head toward her as much as she could without disturbing Lena.

"How are you?" Alex asked.

"Better." Kara answered with a smile. The smile Alex had been missing so dearly.

"Good." Alex smiled back, happy tears shimmering in her eyes.

"You really do love her, huh?"

"Yeah, I really do."

"Alex?"

"Yeah?"

"Thank you. For saving my life."

"Anytime, sis. I love you."

"I love you, too."

"See you tomorrow."

"Definitely."

As Alex left, Kara went to look back at Lena again. When she shut the door, Lena finally opened her eyes.

"How much of that did you hear?"

"Well... I heard how much you love me."

"Hmmmm, I really do."

"I love you, too. My dork."

Notes:

I had originally wanted to write the confrontation between Kara and Lena, but I didn't have the mental energy. Maybe I'll add that in, but that could take 2 to 3 years, so don't count on it. I hope I made you cry, or not, if you're a coldhearted meanie. (;
Anyway, Love ya
