Chapter Text
Horangi woke up gasping, drenched in sweat as he gripped the bedsheets. He shot up, looking around fervently. Where am I? Horangi tried to shout but all he could get out of his throat was a raspy groan.
What happened to the mission? Horangi thought as he observed the room. It was a sickly white, filled with medical equipment and a stench of antiseptic. König and him had recently been sent on a suicide mission, both knowing that they would die. However, he was still alive. How was this possible?
He clicked his tongue, hearing the continuous beeps of the heart monitor stop as he ripped off the wires and tubes strapped to him. He flinched in pain, biting his lips as he saw Roze standing at the corner of the room.
“You’re finally awake.” Roze huffed as she trudged towards horangi. “Where is könig?”Horangi managed a soft whisper as he frowned, leaning against the wall for support as he stumbled. Roze remained silent, her expression indifferent yet filled with a melancholy look as she gazed at horangi. “Is he…?” Horangi’s eyes filled with disbelief and misery as Roze slowly nodded. “We couldn’t find his body.” Roze whispered as horangi bit his lips hard enough to draw blood. Horangi felt as if someone dumped a bucket of cold water on him as he felt a pang in his chest. He sat on the bed, flipping down as he whispered, “Just leave me be.” Roze sighed as she closed the door, leaving horangi alone as he stared at the wall.
Tears pricked at his eyes as Horangi remembered könig. His könig. The one he wanted to spend all his life with. The one who was efficient in battle, yet oh so clumsy. The one who comforted him when he was going through hard times. The one who played cards with him to keep him entertained. The one who stayed up with him all night to make love to each other. The one who he kissed so tenderly, as if it was his last day on earth. The one whom he loved.
Tears were falling from horangi’s eyes now, staining the white pillows as he sniffled. “Why könig? Why him? Why wasn’t it me instead?” Horangi sobbed as negative thoughts appeared in his mind, only causing him to feel more wrecked.
At that moment, roze barged in, her face flushed as she whispered, “They found könig. He’s still breathing.”
