Tally was never popular. She never had friends—or rather—real friends. The only 'friends' she ever hung out with were the girls at church.
They acted nice, but they weren't. Not to her.
She was 'weird', they thought. And so they decided to punish her for it. Nothing extreme, nothing physical, but they whispered words during service that did much more damage than any slap or kick could've done. She remembered each and every word they muttered, even up to this day.
"Y'know, God doesn't let people like you into heaven."
It was stupid, she knew it. How affected she was. But she couldn't help but wonder what they were talking about. She dressed the same, looked the same... So what made her so different? So unlovable?
Deep down, she knew. But she refused to acknowledge it, refused to accept it. All she could do was deny and deny until the whispered words became too much.
