Chapter 1: Introduction

Chapter Text

Naomasa Tsukauchi groans, slamming down a coffee cup onto his desk. Reports have come in about a large “Sewage Monster”. Rolling his eyes, he calls his partner, Sansa Tamakawa.

Entering the office of his detective partner, Sansa is a lean man with large yellow eyes and the head of a ginger tabby cat. He wears a pale blue button-up shirt with a protective vest over the top, and is dressed like most Police Force members, with the exception of a golden bell at his neck.

Sansa asks, “What’s it this time?”

Naomasa answers, “Sewage Monster.”

Sansa blinked. Once. Twice. He asks, “Did you say… Sewage Monster?”

Naomasa sighs. He replies, “I did. Apparently someone saw a large scaled green-humanoid creature crawl out of a sewer grate.”

Sansa then asks, "What do you think it is?”

Naomasa answers, “A homeless person with a Mutation-type. This is the fourth call this month, and the Chief's on my ass about it. Now get your coat, it’s raining.”

Slipping on his tan overcoat, Naomasa slides his matching hat onto his head. Hearing a hiss, he rolls his eyes. Sansa, like the cat he is, hates water. Well, he hates the rain. Underneath the coat, Naomasa wears a black suit, a green tie at his neck with matching slacks, and dress shoes.

Leaving the station with his partner by his side, they get into a cruiser, and fly off into the night. As they are driving, Sansa asks, “So, where does this “Sewage Monster” live?”

Naomasa answers, “From the calls we have been getting, they live in the sewers around the Danchi, in the Aldera area of Musutafu.”

Sansa frowns. That was a pretty decent area. Their are plenty of Pro’s who patrol routes through that area. Eraser Head even has a route through there. He replies, “Have any Pro’s seen this Monster?”

Naomasa says, “This Monster has only been seen at night. Probably scared of the reaction they’d get during the day. So, if any Pro has seen it, they haven’t reported seeing any “Monster” come and go from the sewers.”

Sansa sighs. They are good at not being seen. That’s tough. Means they’d be hard to find, especially so when they live in the sewers. Dark and cramped. They would have such a fun time. Wait a minute, how big are the city’s sewers if a large “Sewage Monster” can live inside them? Better yet, how big is this Monster, truly?

Making their way to the grate, they pull off into a parking lot. The sewage grate was already open. Did their monster leave the den, or did they just forget to close the door? Turning on their flashlights, the duo made sure that their body cams were working. Descending into the sewer, Sansa finds the answer to his first question about the sewers of Musutafu, and Japan in large.

The answer to that first question is apparently twelve feet. Twelve feet! One, two. It was insane. Naomasa had the blueprints pulled up before he left, so it wasn’t as shocking to him as it was for Sansa. Who makes twelve feet tall sewer junctions, and six feet tall pipes?

Looking around, their are four ways the could go. North, South, East, and West. Sansa asks, “Which way?”

Naomasa answers, “North. Stop at the next junction, and then return to this one. Then we head down the other pipes.”

Sansa replies, “That’s fine with me, as long as we get out of here, it’s messing with my fur.”

Naomasa smiles. Sansa and his purrfect fur. He will be complaining about it for weeks. The duo walks North, crossing the threshold into the pipes. The dripping of water kept them jittery, and on their toes, as the crept through the pipe. Looking back every few meters to see if they were being followed. For now, they weren’t. They make it to the south pipe before they notice anything weird in the sewers. A deep rumble permeated through the pipe. And with each step, and every passing second, it grew louder, and louder.

Stepping into the function, they freeze. Under a small, thinned out blanket is a tall man. Wide-set, due to his mutation. Clawed hands and feet, with dark-green scales. From what he saw in the light of their flashlights, the scales looked more like a crocodile, or an alligator of some sort. The gator-man is wearing a pair of ripped, dirty jeans, and a zipped up hoodie.

Naomasa creeps up towards the man, freezing at every shift in movement. Making it a foot away from the croc-man, Naomasa freezes, everyone does, as the man’s eyes open. The man’s eyes glowing a sickening green glow. A growl rumbles through his chest.

Naomasa stumbles backwards. He whispers, “We’re not here to hurt you. My name is Naomasa Tsukauchi, that is my partner Sansa Tamakawa. We are members of the Police Force… We had a call about someone crawling from the sewers. Is that you?”

The man nods, as his growls die off. Someone saw him! Oh, no! Oh, NO! OH, NO! That can’t be happening. No one should have seen him. He only goes out at night, and makes sure to sneak past the Night time Pro Heroes. It was a necessity. After all, he had a Villainous Quirk. His eyes widened, full of panic. Oh, shit! Was he going to be arrested!?

Naomasa frowns, as the man before him begins to panic. He kneels down in front of the croc-man, placing his clawed hand on his chest. He asks, “Can you feel my heartbeat?”

The man slowly nods. Naomasa then says, “Good. Now follow my breathing. Follow my voice. Can you do that?”

The man nods once more, as Naomasa soothes him from his panic attack. Getting his breathing back to normal, Naomasa asks, “Can I ask you some questions?”

He tentatively nods his head again. He still wasn’t trusting his voice to form, or even speak words. His own heart was pounding in between his ears. The headache is excruciating. Looking up at the Officer, the man asks, “What is your name?”

The man answers, “Izuku Midoriya.”

Naomasa replies, “How old are you, Midoriya-san?”

Izuku says, “I’m fourteen.”

A jolt of electricity is sent through his body. Truth. He didn’t like that. Naomasa then asks, “How long have you been down here?”

Izuku answers, “Four.”

Naomasa asks, “Four years?”

Izuku shakes his head.

Naomasa’s eyes widened. He mumbles, “You’ve been down here, since you were four? Why?”

As tears begin to fall from his eyes, Izuku answers, “Apparently I took dad away from Mom. Said he didn’t want a monster from a cheating whore. Couldn’t he see that I have his freckles?”

Naomasa stared at Izuku. He blinked once, before Izuku started to laugh. He gave his own chuckle. It was a pretty sad joke. However, the crimes of neglect, and abandonment were pretty serious. With just Izuku’s testimony, they could be locked up for at least the next ten to twenty years.

Naomasa sighs. He then asks, “Do you have anyone that could pick you up, at least for the night?”

Izuku answers, “My Aunt might take me in?”

Naomasa replies, “And who is your Aunt?”

Izuku says, “Ryuko Tatsuma… The Dragoon Hero.”

Naomasa asks, “Ryukyu?”

Izuku nods again, as Naomasa stands back up. Walking back towards Sansa, he sighs, as the cat-man asks, “So, is everything alright?”

Naomasa replies, “Our “Monster” is a fourteen year old kid. His mother threw him out, after the father left. Been living down here for the last decade. Name is Izuku Midoriya. Do you remember anyone filling a missing person’s report?”

Sansa answers, “Not particularly, Why?”

Naomasa says, “He’s related to Ryukyu.”

Sansa’s eyes widened in shock, as he replies, “The Dragoon Hero?”

Naomasa simply nods. Ryukyu: The Dragoon Hero, is the Number 9 Pro Hero in Japan. It was known that she cared very much for children. So much so that she’s been known to volunteer at orphanages, pre-schools, as well as elementary schools. So the fact that she most likely didn’t report her own nephew missing was odd.

Sansa asks, “Should we call this in?”

Naomasa says, “Call it in! And get an ambulance in here. I don’t know if he is injured, or sick. He has some sort of Crocodile, or Alligator Quirk.”

Sansa gulps, as he steps back from Naomasa. Naomasa tilts his head inquisitively, until he looks behind himself. Standing at his full height, of what appears to be six feet, is Izuku Midoriya. He says, “Croco-dile… My Quirk is called Crocodile.”

Turning back towards Sansa, Naomasa says, “He has a Crocodile Quirk.”

And as Sansa walks over to the side, to speak into his radio. Naomasa sighs, looking back at Midoriya. He asks, “Why are you down here?”

Izuku answers, “It’s safe, home.”

Naomasa nods. The sewers are used as his shelter. Instincts from his Quirk probably brought him down here.  Naomasa then asks, “Are you sick? Hurt?”

Izuku shakes his head in response, as Sansa returns to their side. Sansa says, “An ambulance will be here shortly. We will need to head back up to the surface. What are we going to tell Ryukyu?”

Naomasa sighs. This wasn’t going to be a fun night. He answers, “I’ll call her agency in the morning. Now, let’s just get back up to the surface, and wait for that ambulance.”

Returning to the surface wasn't as bad as they thought it would be. Honestly, the duo expected to be in the sewers for hours, upon hours. Sure it took a while to find Midoriya, but it only took like an hour to do so. It took only ten, twenty minutes to return to the surface. The Ambulance was already there waiting beside their patrol car.

Getting him into the ambulance wasn’t that hard. This ambulance has been modified to be bigger, for people whose height won’t allow them to fit into a normal ambulance. Just imagine the giant Mt. Lady trying to fit into a tiny ambulance. It won’t happen.

The ride to the hospital was quite pleasant. The duo of medics allowed the boy to sleep on the way there, as their check up didn’t pick up anything worrying. However, they would want to keep him overnight for some observation. After all, Midoriya has been living in the sewers for the past decade.
