Chapter 1: Encounter

Chapter Text

Post-war. They lost everything they had. There was nothing to lose. They ran far and came across a wooden bridge high above a cliff. Without thinking, they sprinted through the bridge at full speed. As soon as they made it to the other side, the bridge broke, the wooden planks floating in the air, making it impossible to go back. They looked ahead to be met with a hotel. Something was off about it. Not because a cliff is a strange place to build a hotel or because of the eerie quietness surrounding the hotel. There was something else. Their back felt heavy as they pushed the front door open. They felt unsafe as if being watched. But they were the only ones currently in the lobby of that hotel.

Walking forward, they spot a few elevators, possibly leading to other places in the hotel. They decided to explore those later, as they wanted to look at other things in the lobby. They spotted a hallway leading to a locked door. In the hallway, there was a bookshelf, tables, and a lone window portraying the outside world. It suddenly rained, which was something out of the ordinary. Suddenly, they heard knocking. They froze for a second. They looked back, up, and down many times to make sure there was nothing. Who might that be? They were alone here.

Or so they thought.

They went to the fireplace at the end of the main hall. There were two chairs, and they sat on one. It was comfortable and warm, possibly the only good thing about this hotel. They ended up snoring after a few minutes.

They were fast asleep when a bright blue light appeared a few feet away. It got closer, inspecting the child. Soon, it changed into its humanoid form. To the human eye, it was a white silhouette of a human with blue light emitting from the edges. It wanted to get an even closer look at the child in front of it. It grazed their cheek with its palm. It flinched to how cold they were. It immediately went to look for a blanket or something that could act like one to warm the child. Luckily, there was one on one of the tables. It was genuinely worried for the child and wanted to stay by their side until they woke up. It sat on the floor beside the chair and watched the surroundings, ensuring the child's safety.

A few hours have passed, and the child was slowly stirring awake. The light entity immediately vanished into nothing. That was strange. During their whole nap, there wasn't a single thing bothering them, as if they were protected the entire time. They decided that they felt better and more energized than a few hours back, and wanted to continue exploring the hotel. They entered an elevator going up. After about five seconds, the door closed and the real journey began.

They stopped at a room where you would sign in to stay at this hotel. There were many furniture, but their eyes were glued to a door, which was locked. They looked around for a key, and sure enough, there was a key with the number: 0001. They took the key and unlocked the door. There was another door after another. That was when they realized this was going to take a long time...

Door 0014. The lights were flickering when they opened the door. What was it now? Whatever it is, it can't be good. Hiding was their first instinct at this moment. Fortunately for them, there was a nearby closet that they immediately jumped into. A loud noise can be heard a few doors back, the sound of breaking glass following suit. An entity rushed by with a smile on its face. They decided to call them Rush for now.

Unbeknownst to them, the light entity was watching over them. Oh, how it wanted to guide them wherever they go. It decided to discuss with the entities about this because this was the first time a child had entered this hotel.

Guiding Light, or who we'll call "Light" has gathered all the entities in the library for a meet-up. It's been a while since they did one of these, and it's a good way to check on each other. The figure was there already. Ambush came second, followed by Rush. Seek appeared not long after, Screech on its shoulder. Hide and Jack couldn't attend, and neither could Timothy. Glitch is with Void in the void, and the last to show up was Shadow. "Alright then. Shadow, please inform Glitch and Void about today's meet-up. And try to tell Hide too, along with Jack and Timothy". Light said with a smile. "So first of all, it's been a long time since we've done this. How's everyone doing?" Light asked curiously. Most of them replied with "Fine" or some sort, but Screech wasn't having it right now. With a loud tone, he said, "NO! I'M NOT FINE. HIDE DROP-KICKED ME OUT OF HIS CLOSET, AND THEN I GOT LECTURED BY HALT FOR FLYING INTO HIS HALLWAY EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T DO IT INTENTIONALLY..". The other entities chuckled when they heard this. Ambush, however, burst into laughter. He caught his "breath" only to go wheezing again. He broke character. "OH- O-OH MY GOSH..." He steadied his pace before snapping back into his usual calm demeanor. "Ehm. Sorry about that" He apologized with a smile. Everyone laughed except for Screech. He pouted, displeased. "Anyways, we have something to discuss." Light interrupted. "I assume most of you haven't met our new visitor, yes?" It asked. "Is it a child?" Rush asked. Light confirmed this by nodding. "Indeed. That's why I gathered you all here," Light said. Screech yelped excitedly. He was excited to have a new playmate. Seek nodded, intrigued by this information. "This is new. We've never had any child visitors." Seek stated. Light nodded. "Yes. As far as I've seen, they didn't seem to come here for the thrill as many others do, they're lost and need a place to live." Everyone started to whisper, and Figure asked, "So, you're saying they need hospitality?" Figure paused before continuing, "Well, as long as they don't yell in the library like a certain someone," his words were directed to Screech. Poor Screech. "Then I don't really care." Everyone agreed. They won't harm the child if they can behave themselves and not cause disturbance. "Alright then, this meet-up is done. Thank you to everyone who participated." As everyone moved from their seats, Figure suddenly stopped in his tracks. "I... I hear screaming."

That knocked everyone up.

Where was the child now?
